Their green tea ice cream š¦ is something to die for. Sometimes we deliberately drive from Caulfield to Carnegie just to buy the ice cream. It is to note that the ice cream melts really fast.
Tasted a few ramens š Personally I still prefer Hakata Gensuke in the CBD but considering the ramen here is cheaper and the taste is also pretty good, just not towards my liking.
Its a small place so if your sitting near the entrance/cashier area, there's always a line/ crowd of people next to you.
The most delicious ramen in Melbourne! Small and cosy location, very busy but fast service. Must try this place out!
Busy little cafe in Carnegie. We tried the special tsukemen, pork gyoza, karaage chicken and pork butter corn ramen. The portions were large for the price we paid. The pork in the tsukemen had a nice smokey flavour but it was too dry and also cut in cubes. Perhaps it would have been better to have it as sliced charshu. The dipping sauce needed more flavour and concentration as it was a little thin so it did not grab on to the noodles when dipped. It was otherwise a good dish and the noodles were cooked al dente. The pork gyozas were tasty and juicy but the oil they were fried in was old oil and therefore there was an unpleasant charred flavour to them. The karaage chicken was crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside and very tasty. The pork butter corn ramen was well executed. I personally wanted the soup to have a stronger flavour but that differs from person to person. Overall a value for money place.
I went to the restaurant every Saturday. Karage ramen miso soup is my fav. The soup is not as salty as other places but I prefer it that way.
Soft serve matcha red bean #ftw
My go to ramen shop in Carnegie. Does solid good job. Has consistency with the quality. Super friendly manager. I tried another ramen shop in Chaddy ground floor near the entrance and Shyun ramenās soup was more thick and had a depth to flavour. If they used pork chashu like the photo in the menu itād be 5 star but they use fatty pork belly instead.. the ramen is already thick enough and pork belly is just bit too much for me.
Love coming here especially on a cold day. One of my favorites has got to be the beef sukiyaki soba. Just love the sweetness of the beef combined with the saltiness of the broth. Could drink the entire thing!
Also ordered their Signature Ramen which are so tasty! We also always get Takoyaki on the sides. The food comes really quickly. They have a back area which they open up when the front gets too crowded. It is way more spacious and has great lighting. There are also heaters and an arcade in there.
My all time favourite ramen place in Melbourne. The broth is delicious but not too oily. Best thing is to finish up with a matcha soft serve drink š
Itās heart warming to have a delicious hot noodle soup in the winter! This ramen bar serves the authentic Japanese ramen with very rich and tasty miso pork bone soup base. Generous serve, fresh ingredients and lovely presented! We have almost tried everything in the bar, the conclusion is the ramen is always good, must try the deep fried dishes too! Bentos are nice but not the eel, green tea latte and soft serve are yummy too, would be even better to improve the milk texture, richer the better.
The ramen that we all had were delightful. Tried the signature pork ramen with miso soup. Excellent! Generous serving extremely tasty. Can get crowded but there is an area out the back which is nice and quiet. Will be back.
Have been there for several times. We ordered the lunch sets with mini combo, which are chicken ramen and chicken karaage with shoyu soup based, come together with the mini rice and Gyoza (Dumpling). The price is quite affordable and service is very good! Will be back next time.
Decided to check out Shyun Ramen Bar the other night. We had the pork miso and the chicken shoyu, along with a side of takoyaki. The ramen is actually pretty good and the broth is delicious. I preferred the pork broth as it was richer and more flavourful than the chicken. Prices are affordable too.
At first glance, it looks like a typical ramen bar with cash for below $20 policy to make it hard for solo diners like me but, ... after trying their ramen, I think it's really good. Generous amount of meat and large portions are always welcome. The broth was point too. Haven't tried all ramen places in the area but this one already seems like a winner in Carnegie.

My ramen bar of choice in this area.
Chewy noodles with full pork-base broth, and okay chashu.
Would love to try their other flavours next visit!
Small place, busy busy and wait times can be long but the staff keeps the flow moving and the ramen is definitely worth trying. And as a #2 to Shyun on the same strip, itās no wonder they opened another since Shyun #1 has always enjoyed popularity status and the focus on ramen here gives the same love and attention to every dish to make it deliciously heart warming thatās reminiscent of homemade goodness.
Make sure to be ready for a wait, this place can get busy very quickly. Not many seats available but great staff to ensure a high turnover. Ramen base was very good but the pork was a bit chewy and the fried chicken was a bit dry.
An extension outlet of the original Shyun, taking a leaf out of the Paradai book. If you're successful, why not open up another one hey? Fair enough too. The Dear Luncher approves.
An impressive array of ramen options, solid gyoza. For the most recent take away visit, a chicken karaage curry was requested and it did not disappoint. Luscious curry sauce, quality chicken. The seafood ramen, high quality.
Really high quality food capable of standing out in a locality that's saturated with top quality noodle joints. The broth, the noodles and at least the eggs and the pork belly are all authentic and rich in flavour. I can't say a bad thing about this ramen bar's ramen. Many critics on here complain about the lack of space forcing diners to wait to be seated - I can't agree. Although its almost certainly a commercial constraint rather than a curated choice, I think there's a certain charm to the hole-in-the-wall ramen bar ambience that couldn't be achieved if seating numbers were doubled for instance.
I take off one star because the gyoza was mushy and greasy and not very flavourful but if you're coming for the ramen this is 100% a 5 star dining experience in Carnegie.
From the moment we walked in the staff were super friendly and we felt like we were in Japan. We had pork gyoza, chicken karaage, dry extra hot noodle & pork chashu ramen. The egg in dry noodle & ramen was insanely delicious and so was the rest of the food, pork gyoza is the best I've had In Melbourne. I haven't had Japanese food like this since being in Japan Nov 2018. Highly recommend this place. Will definitely be back to make my way through the rest of the menu
I have been here many times. This place is quite small, we try to go earlier for dinner to avoid the rush. I love their ramen and udon selections, it always hits the spot. I have never had a bad experience here.
I would also recommend getting the Chicken Karaage on the side, you can add it to your ramen or udon for an extra treat!
Shyun Ramen Bar, an offshoot of the more traditional restaurant Shyun is a cosy space for a date or small groups. However, the lack of seating (and high demand for delicious noodles) also creates the impression that you need to be in-and-out as quickly as possible, which is a shame because the dishes are good enough to be savoured and enjoyed leisurely. My partner and I opted for udon - Beef Sukiyaki and Tempura. The beef sukiyaki was simply exquisite - the flavour of the beef added to the already succulent soup, which in turn made everything else in the bowl taste oh so delicious. The beef itself was tender and not dry, as sukiyaki can be sometimes. The tempura was more of the same - crisp and very nice to bite into. Another aspect of our meals that can't be understated was the goldilocks portion sizes - not too little, not too much. Overall, a great meal but please get more seats!
Heard good reviews from peers and ramen lived up to the expectations! The shop and table was a bit small but it wasn't a big deal. Service was good and food came quite quickly. It was a shame that we came here a little later at night and ran out of soft serve :(
Outstanding ramen. Do not hesitate ! First time there and we will be regulars from now on. Great staff. Reminded me of japan. My mouth is still salivating can not wait to return!
Delicious food and a very authentic Japanese ambience. Tried a ramen egg soup, Katsu don, chicken, miso, agedashi tofu, beans, yummmmm! Will definitely go back. Is tiny and v casual.
As Jpop pumps in the background whilst being greeted in both Japanese and English, stepping into Shyun Ramen Bar warped me back to Tokyo. It's long counter bar looking into the kitchen resembles the authentic ramen bars in the back streets of Japan. Upon indulging in a bowl of ramen I experience a perfect elastic texture to its noodles, a lean and soft bite to the meat and a creamy and smooth broth that is now my favourite Ramen broth in Melbourne.
It wasnāt my first time at Shyun Ramen Bar but now that I have experience living in Tokyo, I can compare their ramen to the authentic ones Iāve had across Japan! I liked how my spicy minced pork ramen was not as greasy and didnāt give me an upset stomach how a lot of the ones Iāve ate in Japan did (usually because of how rich their broths were). I thoroughly enjoyed my bowl but for those that prefer bigger portions of food or guys the serving size may not be enough.
Spectacular ramen! I'm a pretty big fan and critic of ramen and am often underwhelmed at many standards in Melbourne and around the world for that matter. This place absolutely nails it. Excellent broth and balance of flavours and ingredients. This miso broth is delicious and a reasonable size portion. The takoyaki is great and fresh and the gyoza is very subtle and legit flavour. The ramen special at the time was the 'Sichuan' which was not as great. Bit too much raw chilli sauce explosion going on. Not bad... But the spicy pork was much more impressive!
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the food was delicious! The prices were also very reasonable and servings were generous! Would highly recommend!

Catch up with friends last night in this place. Ordered one spicy sicuan ramen, it was sooooo good!!! We all really enjoyed it. But the noodles were not that much, maybe we were too hungry, didnāt feel so full after finishing the remen. Maybe should order some side dishes, the fried chicken looks yummy, will try next time.
Wanted to come here for quite some time to try out their ramen! Finally made the trip and it was definitely worth it. Lots of ramen options and offer the usual Japanese curry and rice options too. Not a lot of seating inside but people seemed to come and go pretty quickly after finishing their meals. Order at the counter and meals come out to you.. didnāt have to wait very long at all.. had the pork shoyu... broth was delicious and portion size was very decent. Didnāt even make it half way through and was already full. Couldnt even finish the pork.. The pork was so juicy and soft. Definitely coming back again!
Came here last night and ordered the chefs pick chicken ramen, pork gyoza & karang curry don. Ramen was very good, one of the best I've tried in the area. The karang was nice however I didn't notice till after ordering that they sold katsu curry don as it wasn't on the menu ( it was a special of some sort) so I would've ordered that instead if I knew. Gyoza was very good, fresh flavours, absolutely loved it. Seating is a little crammed, but worth squishing in on a cold Melbourne night for a bowl of ramen to warm you up!
Highly recommend the green tea and vanilla blend soft serve!
I love this place! Visited last night, was treated to a hearty ramen on a cold night and was not disappointed. Great blend of ingredients, would have liked a little more pork belly in my Tokyo Ramen, but otherwise pleased! Make sure you don't miss the Iced Matcha Latte, such a great add on! Thank you!
Food: šššš
We ordered the chicken broth ramen, pork butter corn ramen, karaage chicken and agedashi tofu. Both the ramen were enjoyable and was just what we needed to warm our stomachs. The pork butter ramen was still creamy despite us removing the block of butter and the chicken broth ramen was rich. The sides were also enjoyable and we left feeling very full.
Service: n/a
Price: šššš.5
Well priced for the quality and portions of the meals served. Just a note that this a cash only restaurant so remember to bring some $$.
Small place with such good food and big servings! I had sichuan ramen and it was awesome. Price is reasonable for the quality of food that you get. Matcha soft ice cream was also nice. Bring cash coz they donāt accept card payments.
Down the street from Shyun, thereās their sister restaurant Shyun Ramen. Itās small and inconspicuous, but Matcha lovers will no doubt be drawn in by their lit up Matcha sign. As well as serving ramen (which is what their name implies) they have a wide selection of Matcha iced lattes. More on this laterā¦ first letās talk about the parking! Trying to find parking on Koornang Road can be a difficult task to say the least, going up and down with a car right up your a** can be pretty stressful times. Iāve personally had more success with the carpark at Shepparson Avenue, but people are catching on, so Iāve had to park further down Neerim Road these days. Iām revealing all my parking spots, please be nice and leave a spot for me!
Been here a few times and it alway satisfies the ramen cravings.
Not as good as some of the options in the city (like Little Ramen Bar). But pretty decent ramen for the suburbs. So great ramens here option if you donāt want to travel into the busy city.
The green tea soft serves are pretty yum too.
spicy miso ramen is sooo addictive, friendly staff and service is top notch
wifey loves it everytime i suggest we est Shyun for dinner, no need to ask where to eat
Very nice food. Ordered the agedashi tofu and kara age chicken for entrees as I like to compare them from different places, very nice. Was very happy with everything we ordered. Quality food nice and fresh. Pay cash only.
Fast ramen bar, satisfying ramen.
Located on street in a busy shopping strip, this well visited establishment serves tasty ramen, gyoza and all manner of Japanese meals. On the day at lunch, staff were very friendly and service was quick, even as the restaurant was filling with lots of patrons.
A pork ramen mini combo came with a hot bowl of fresh ramen in miso based broth, generous slice of fatty pork (soft to palate and flavoursome), soy egg, bamboo shoots, nori sheet, bean sprouts and bitey ramen. Excellent mixture of textures and flavour. A small plate of gyoza and drink served alongside rounded the meal.
Good varied menu and drinks list definitely warrants a revisit but certainly worth the effort for some heart-warming ramen.
My fav place for ramen. Come with reasonable price and great dish. The soup was yummy and sweet, waiting staff were friendly and fast to serve.
Always return.
Wish it had a more diverse menu though.
I really like the ramen here and have come here several times. Overall the food is decent and the price is reasonable too. However the service is a little inconsistent especially when it gets busy; one of the staff was visibly quite flustered as she took our order and redirected our question to the cashier. But overall, I love coming here and look forward coming again soon!
Finally got to try this place after failing to get seats the first time. Be warned, its a small restaurant and can get super packed on weekends. The ramen was declious, on the hard side which is the way I like it. My spicy pork ramen had a better broth than the regular one. If you are a bigger eater I suggest the gyoza combo with rice on top of your ramen! Great combo and deal.
Overall a solid place in carneige if you're in the mood for ramen.
Pork and butter corn ramen was good (tried it with the shoyu option). Found the miso version too salty for my liking. Could have been served warmer. It's ok but have had better ones.
Great Ramen place away from the city. Ended up here after finding out local place closed and I'm glad. I had the chef recommended pork Ramen with miso and it was beautiful. Noodles were spot on and broth really dense and tasty. We also had some gyozas and green tea ice cream which we found enjoyable too. I recommend you get in early as the place fills up really quick for dinner. Try to avoid the tables at the back in the winter months, it's really cold in there. I would come back to this place.
Great Ramen, come early to get a seat! Solid rice and noodle dishes! Not too salty with the miso base, good balance. Our favorite local eatery in the heart of Carnegie!
Shyun's a gem in the heart of Carnegie central. Tasy ramen with the texture cooked just perfect, efficient and polite service and innovative drinks.
mmmmm, that's good ramen!
Inexpensive, tasty and super quick...which is what a ramen bar should be. The pork broth was rich and had nice depth of flavour with chewy noodles, melting pork belly and perfectly boiled egg. The serve was just the right size to fill a hungry fellow up..and the kids love it too (check out the karaage chicken..they'll demolish it!)
Excellent quality I'd ingredients used. I ate the Salmon Don. It tasted great and not fishy at all. The wagyu beef entree is also quite good but there are many onions. Not much choice on the menu compared to shyun but i guess this is more of a focus on soba and ramen rather than other japanese food. Overall for the quality of food you get you can't go wrong.
Dropped in for some ramen for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. The food was great and good value for money.
The staff are friendly and even though you order and pay at the counter they're super helpful.
It's pretty busy and the food comes out quickly. I would definitely recommend if you're keen for some quick ramen and in the area.
Very impressed! We craved ramen but didn't want to go into the city so we tried this place. I had pork ramen (shoyu) the broth was delicious, noodles were good and the other components were tasty also. It wasn't too salty, it tasted like liquid pork, rich and satisfying. I tasted my partners miso pork base which was the same but super creamy. The vegetable gyoza were great, very thin tasty wrapper and filling. The fried chicken karaage was juicy and probably the best I've had in a long time. We also had a side of curry and rice- very nice Japanese curry, like gravy with mild spice. Finally I had a green tea soft serve ice cream which I recommend if you like matcha. The service was very friendly, we had to wait in line about 8 minutes (1:45pm) to get a table but the food arrives SO fast and it's so good that it's worth the wait for sure. I will return.
This is my comfort food. I often go there by myself to enjoy a bowl of hot and rich ramen. The ramen is not entirely traditional, however, it's really tasty! After trying a few more traditional places in the city, I think I still prefer the flavor of Shyun. The price is very affordable too. A bowl of ramen usually cost between 11.90 to 14.90. I would suggest if people order tempura noodle or chicken karrage ramen, make sure you remind the staff to serve the tempura and chicken karrage on separate plate instead of leaving them in the soup.
Dining options in the Carnegie area is fast developing with many new restaurants opening or new opened in the area. One of these recent editions to the scene is Shyun Ramen Bar, a ramen bar restaurant extension to the Shyun Group. Both Shyun and Shyun Ramen Bar are located on Koornang Rd, but a mere 5 mins walking distance from each other. While Shyun provides you with theirĀ seasonal selection of fresh sashimi, rice and noodle dishses, Shyun Ramen Bar focuses on the popular ramen noodle soup.
Ramen was amazing! Tasted very authentic, serving portion was big yet cheap. Loved the environment and service there too! Always greeting and saying goodbye as you enter and leave.
Good, cheap ramen in Melbourne's East.
My go to if I'm looking for a quick ramen. Consistently good without being great. The service is quick and the ramen is good. Can't go past the pork belly. Service is quick.
Honourable mentions to the Gyoza and fried chicken also.
Along the busy strip of koornang road, this ramen bar was good for a decent feed. I was craving ramen and although the weather was hot, I decided to try their ramen anyway. It was a decent in size and had good broth flavour. Would recommend if you're in the area, they have a deliciously large range of matcha drinks which I'm hooked onto almost all the time.. enjoy !
Felt like I was in a Tokyo ramen bar in Japan. Very small place so you may need to wait for a table more than 2. Come for an authentic ramen fix
For me, the best chicken soup in Melbourne! I had eaten since they started to open, Shyun has improved a lot and became one of the most better-to-watch-out competitor for other ramen shops in Melbourne.
Two things attracted me here - the poster for their matcha drinks stuck on the window outside and the fact that it's an offshoot of Shyun down the road. The ramen didn't disappoint; the miso broth was thick and flavourful, a comforting dish for a cold day. The sauce for the ja-ja men was also delectable - a bit spicy, a tad sweet, and of course lightly salted. Tossed in the minced meat, bean sprouts and noodles, topped with the spicy picked cabbage and you have a delightful alternative if you are after dry noodles. The only issue we have, actually we have more than one, but the main one is inconsistency in the amount of ingredients in their ramen. The ramen of the month was $14.90 and was drowning in corn, pork, prawns, and fish cake slices but the butter pork ramen was $13.90 and had a smattering of corn and two measly slices of pork. Same issue with our matcha drinks, one had two gigantic chunks of ice, thus reducing the actual drink to 1/3 of the cup, while the other had a perfectly reasonable ice to drink ratio. Makes you wonder why is life so unfair. Even my meal is discriminating against me.
Ate here several times and I think it is the best in Melbourne. Loved the miso soup based with hot minced pork and chasu pork. They give you good meat portion. The green tea is not bad either. Food here so much better than Yokozuna at Chadstone Shopping Centre and it Yoko has soup which tasted like dish water, due to lack of bones used in the soup I suspected.
We came here friday night for dinner. The restaurant is qhite small. We ordered chicken katsu curry, karage ramen, spicy pork ramen and a matcha soft serve. The chicken katsu curry was really good!! Both ramens were delicious and the broth was pretty good. The noodles were chewy and cooked well. Service was good and i would come back but it still does not compare to hakata. Matcha ice cream got eaten before the photo was taken.
As an Asian, I am often associated with rice for every meal which is ironic because I am more of a noodle person. Sure, I will crave for rice for variety although not to the same degree as what most people would think. The sister suggested for the bunch of us to have Japanese on a Friday night and being on a conservative budget, I searched the web for a decent place that wouldn't be too exorbitantly priced to back good quality food. So much one can learn from the web.

Was hungry for lunch on a CupDay, Shyun was open at lunch we quickly rush in for some ramen!
The first time we went wasn't very impressed with limited choice, icy greentea soft serve and small portions. Have to say they are improved, the soup was a tad salty but apart from that everything was yum and fresh, me and my partner was happy with the meal (kinda changed my mind to revisit)
Not going to compare with Japan but by Melbourne I think it's decently well.
Karaage chicken miso ramen. YES.
Chicken curry. YES.
Greem tea ice cream. YES PLEASE.
One of my favourite ramen places in Melbourne, Shyun Ramen is a quaint little restaurant (note: CASH ONLY) with a steady flow of customers. Staff are usually pretty attentive and quick. Noodles are fresh, miso broth is so more-ish - I hardly ever finish ramen broth, but here, I consistently can't help but finish it! Prices are reasonable and food is served fast. My only complaint is that the mark of a truly skilled Japanese chef is in the beautiful orange liquidy yolk of the soft boiled egg... This one fails to deliver. All else is great.
Small shop, friendly and attentive staff. All cutlery and water are self served, order at the counter.
Spicy pork mince, I was quite disappointed it wasn't spicy at all, although I paid $0.50 extra on the menu to request extra spicy, was quite misleading as I couldn't really taste any spiciness. I double checked with the staff, she confirmed that my order had already added extra spicy.
Karaage chicken quite standard, nothing too fancy to comment about.
Overall noodle texture was good, great amount of ingredients, like the corns, soup wasn't very salty which was good, you can top up clear soup if you think too salty, available on request.
Finished off with the green tea soft serve ice cream, quite disappointed the waffle cone was a little thick, and the soft serve tasted a little bitter, I think too much green tea, the flavour wasn't balance too well.
What a nice little Rame place in Carnegie. Happy with the Ramen, decent portion and plenty of side dishes available for sharing. The fried chicken is awesome! :)
Been here a few times now, beautiful place. Can't go wrong on the menu here. If you have to wait, worth it. Broth is beautifully textured, same with the eggs. Either signature or one of the others, can't go wrong. Don't forget a matcha drink while you're at it. One of the best in Melbourne's SE.
Love the food here. No fuss, efficient service and good selection available. Karaage chicken is one of my favourites. Seats about 16 inside and three tables on footpath over summer but tables turn over quite quickly so never have to wait long. Order and pay at counter.
I didnāt realised that cleared soup based ramen existed tho.
Well, quite good but salty on my taste actuallyā¦
Anyway, reasonable price, good quality of foodie.
First impressions: A cosy little eatery with limited sitting, which is fine by me since it is a ramen bar after all! I was greeted by their friendly team and was seated immediately.
I ordered their signature homemade pork broth ramen noodle w/ pork and egg and chicken karaage.
āØchicken was tender, juicy and lightly battered, and not too oily. It was seasoned well so no complaints.
āØRamen broth was sweet and creamy with the touch of corn, the pork and noodles were chewy. I usually prefer a thicker / richer broth and their broth was more on the lighter side.
Really wanted to highlight their service - it was notably quick and efficient as my food came out in less than 7 minutes!! This is the perfect place for a quick lunch if you are on the go!
An excellent and affordable option for dinner, any day of the week!
Even though their prices have gone up over time (canāt blame them for that), Shyun is still relatively cheap ($13-16 a bowl). Serving sizes are deceiving - I always think the portions are so small when I get served, but then Iām unable to finish my meal! So expect to get nice and full when you eat here
The menu is very large meaning thereās something for everyone. Highly recommend getting a few sides to go with your mains. I recommend takoyaki (octopus balls) and agedashi tofu.
They have a smooth ordering system where you can just go up the counter and order what you like, where you pay before you eat. Itās great because you never have to worry about split bills. With the ramen bowls, you can pick your soup base (between miso and shoyu) which means you get to personalise it a bit!
They do not take bookings but if theyāre full, they write your name down and call you when they have a table ready so you can wander around Carnegie until then.
My one reservation about this place is how they arenāt yet doing their bit to be sustainable. Plastic cups, cutlery, and containers litter the entire restaurant (you can see heaps just in the one photo I attached). I totally understand that disposable cups/cutlery cut down on the need for dishwashing, but they should really invest in biodegradable paper items - which pretty much every other restaurant these days have. They get a few online orders for food as well that go out in those terrible plastic containers. Iām hoping this restaurant can take a step in the right direction to help reduce plastic waste and help our dying planet.
Overall, highly recommend you give this place a try. And try not to use their plastic while youāre there. Lol
Not too long of a wait (they told me they would call in 20 mins and they got back to me in 13 on a Friday dinner hours), beautiful beautiful ramen which tasted wonderful and the staffs were very helpful despite it being super crowded. The place is small so it's not the most fun place to sit in but I'm definitely going back (preferably not on peak hours / weekends).
In picture is the home broth ramen with extra pork.
ordered the gyÅza, sichuan ramen, pork shoyu, chicken karage shoyu, spicy pork miso. Good bowls of ramen but nothing spectacular.
My to go local ramen place. Itās not always consistent but overall pretty good!
