Great Tuesday night with friends here. We ordered the 3 course sharing menu. The chef was super friendly, and impressive with his attentiveness to food intolerances within the group. Highlights for me were the fish dish, as well as the succulent chicken but all dishes chosen for us were tasty and well made, and overall a well balanced meal. Warm and welcoming atmosphere. A beautiful night for us all and we look forward to returning.

One of the best food experiences in this busy Koornang road restaurant strip. All food is made on premises and explained with passion by the chef himself. Great wine list. Focus of this restaurant is not only the food but making the whole dining experience a pleasure, right down to linen napkins (tick for recylcing and reusing)

Thanks Chef Neos for your personal touch to provide a meal that considered the many food restrictions of my partner. Your attention to detail enabled a great night out.

if you are looking for a caring personalized service this is a great place to go - you can even call ahead of time to arrange for 'food challenged' diets! See you there again.

Having had the pleasure of dining in this amazingly set establiment was the highlight of my week, getting to experience the passion, food and service having worked in the industry for 10 years showcased everything executed to precision from wine, food and recommendations, chatting with the owner and brains behind this place was amazing. It showcases Melbourne's unique diversity and how a dining experience should be.

Ducked in on a Tuesday for a little nibble.
Food
The waiter explained the menu to us. How big and that all food in made in house.
We ordered the house bread which was a crispy white bread with rock salt and rosemary which was warm and just perfect with the eggplant dip. Had the home-made saganaki cheese which was amazing. Three cheeses coated in honey which was the perfect combination of sweet and saltiness. We also had the calamari with fennel and citrus, which  was just brilliant.
Ambiance
This is a great place for a date. It was not too loud in there and there was around 6 tables of couples and a table of 8, in there but never did you have to raise your voice to talk. They have nice mood lighting from behind the wall mounted mirrors, and subtle acoustic absorbing squares on the ceiling that are done in a creative way as to not look like sound proofing.
Over all it was a great place to have a night out.
Really lifted the game of Carnegie.
Bravo will be eating here again. Already trying to figure out when.

A new gem in Carnegie neighborhood!!! It's a must try. Food is delicious. We ordered 1 snack, pasta and a main. Zucchini pie is a delicious starter. Seafood pasta and the lamb dishes are so yummy. Chargrilled veggie is a nice touch to finish our meals. We were so full and couldn't order dessert. We already rebooked our next dinner here, to try on dessert. Staff is extremely friendly and attentive. Definitely recommend this place to our friends and family.

Valentines dinner. The place is cozy and well decorated and staff are all very nice. SOWL has good starters liked prawns and zucchini pies. I do love the zucchini pies as they were perfectly baked. However, I think the pasta was a little rich and too creamy so it easily made me feel full and decrease appetite. The grilled fish, in contrast, was a very good main dish as it was juicy and tender.

This very welcome addition to Koornang Rd was recommended to us by several people.  We arrived on a Saturday for an early dinner.  The welcome was warm and attentive.  Several other tables were occupied and the place steadily filled over the time we were there.

The first drink was a superb cocktail made by a master.  The drinks list seemed to cover all bases.

The food  ... there were plenty of options available, depending on your level of hunger, which were explained to us very well.  We decided to sample several of the smaller plates, so we could experience different flavours.  The food is wonderful - fresh, tasty food with a Mediterranean twist.

Highly recommend, and as a local, I am very much looking forward to more visits.

We decided to try this place on a Sunday night based on a friend’s recommendation. The waiters were very friendly and asked if we’d been here before. Then one of them explained to us how the 3 and 4 course menu works and how large the portions were. We decided to go ala carte and ordered 2 entrees which were the home-made saganaki cheese and the grilled octopus and pickled vegetables. Both entrees were delicious: the cheese was fried and coated in a honey glaze which cut through the savouriness and it was served with stewed apricots which gave the dish a pleasant stone fruit, tart and sweet flavour. There was also a sesame-coated crumbly white cheese which I thought may be fetta but I’m not sure. It was nutty and savoury. The octopus was tender and had a nice smokey flavour. The pickled veggies were really sour so there was good balance and freshness in the dish. We also ordered the braised lamb to share. The lamb was fatty and cooked so well it was falling apart tender. Perhaps I like my food salty so I found it underseasoned and it was also a little greasy. It was otherwise a great dish. With it we ordered a side of charcoal grilled vegetables which was amazing - I’m not a veggies person but the veggies were smokey and packed with flavour. It’s an example of a simple dish but made delicious when the chef knows how to use the natural flavours of his ingredients to make a dish shine. All in all a great meal and also reasonably priced. We will be back to try their pastas.

[S.owl - Wise Cuisine] Yes, you read that right and it was that enigmatic signage that had our curiosities roused.

Instinctively, we went in to check out the menu which turned out to be Mediterranean, and between their lunch and dinner menus, it was the latter that enticed us.

Arriving for an early dinner one evening, we were warmly greeted by Yiannis and his team, whilst a cosy and intimate setting awaited inside with soft lighting cascading from the ceilings and walls.

We sipped on some lovely sparkling pinot noir as we navigated through the menu with some guidance from Yiannis, who proudly divulged that everything from bread to pasta is made on premise.

With my partner at the helm of the wine list, our entrees were paired with a nice medium-bodied Tempranillo. Starting off with the Octopus, it was grilled to perfection, despite a couple of pieces that were slightly bitter from the charring, and the inclusion of pickled onions added a sweet and tangy symmetry to the dish.

Moving on next was the Saganaki of three cheeses. The sesame crusted feta and pan fried halloumi were delicious but my favourite would have to be the kefalograviera, where its saltiness worked amazingly well against the sweetness of the nectarines and molasses.

Our final entree of Lamb Kofta was just spectacular! From the meaty kofta to the smooth labneh, not an ounce of element was flawed. Superbly executed, this is one dish I would happily have over and over again!

The last to make an appearance was the Lamb Of Gods. Nothing short of presentation, the meat was incredibly tender, although a little nudge in the flavour department would do it more justice. As exciting as the name sounded, this one didn’t quite leave a lasting impression on us. On the flip side, it went down well with our side of humble Chargrilled Vegetables and smooth, easy-drinking Shiraz.

Thankfully heeding Yiannis’ advise to share one main, we managed a portion of Creme Catalan which was neither too sweet nor heavy, and the addition of burnt almonds and zingy syrup brought out a different dimension of textures and flavours.

It is obvious that a lot of care and thought have gone into the venue and menu, and being quite the newbie on the block, this place is a breath of fresh air to the Carnegie food scene that is saturated with dumpling and noodle establishments.

Very enjoyable dinner on a busy Friday night, which meant service had a gap in between but understandably so. Had the sharing menu and we were glad to heed the owner's advice to not order anymore side dishes... so full towards the end! Dessert was very pleasant as well, a 'baked custard' slice that was a refreshing change from the usual offerings. Will definitely return to try the à la carte menu. Great to have this new restaurant in Carnegie!

A great new option for Koornang Rd. Everything is fresh and made from scratch. They clearly take pride in their restaurant and walk you through dining as an experience. The flavours are delicious and well balanced and portion size appropriate. The dessert highlight was the Tiramisu which steers away from the usual. I’ll be back!

Been here twice now and both times has been fantastic. For the best experience, let Yiannis (chef / owner who also works the floor) choose your food and drinks - we did it twice and was absolutely amazing.

Finally - a nice restaurant in Carnegie!
Great friendly service and awesome food!!

Would give 5 stars, however desserts were a bit of a let down. The tiramisu was simply a chocolate brownie with cream and coffee syrup. I would definitely go back for everything but the dessert.

Fancy restaurant with good food. Had the lamb pasta and the pork scotch. The food was very good. The portioning seemed small but it was still filling. Expect to spend at least $30/person, $45/person a more reasonable estimate

Sowl is an exceptional restaurant . The food and service are first rate. The noise level is on the high side but this fits perfectly with the atmosphere of the place. Our group of four chose the degustation menu . The Monk fish was truly worth the visit alone. The lamb was great and the desserts Exceptional. Our waiter recommend an excellent Greek wine for our first bottle . So you can definitely explore new wine experiences.

Fantastic experience. This was our second time and it was just as good as the first, absolutely impeccable food and service. We loved hearing the history of the wine that we ordered and the attention to detail that has been put into creating the menu. We will absolutely be bringing our family and friends to Sowl with no hesitation!
