Such a quirky little cafe and gallery that serves top notch food.

A smaller range menu means quality of what is available. Come hungry as portion size is generous. Highly recommended

Big tasty brekki meals. Beautiful quirky little cafe. Great place to pop into.

Popped in for a coffee and a croissant. Best cafe ever! Absolutely delicious coffee and I haven’t had such a good croissant since I was last in France. Can’t recommend Run Rabbit Run enough. They also have a load of goods to buy, we brought a birthday card (awesome design of native birds). If you’re passing through Castlemaine, this is definitely where you want to stop.

Lovely Cafe!! Top service .. The food was amazing! And the iced coffee yum. But that's not all.. Go upstairs and see the vintage wedding dresses omg...

Lovely coffee, and really tasty brunch menu. The portion sizes are enormous and somewhat intimidating though. On both occasions that we have been there has been wasted food which I hate given how much food Australia throws away each year. I think in future sharing a dish between two people is the way forward. The corn fritter is an incredible dish in every way. The hotcake would do with being smaller but with the same amount of syrup so the dish isn't quite as dry. Over half of the hotcake went uneaten and I was still absolutely stuffed!

Stopped here on Sunday after a visit to a local antiques fair. To their credit this place remained open, whilst a number of eateries in Castlemaine were closed. Run, Rabbit, Run was quite busy, and nearly all the indoor tables were full. Enjoy a BLAT and a refreshing local apple cider. Reasonably priced, good food, but the menu is very limiting. Thanks for a nice lunch

COVID crazy Everything is different in these times we came to Castlemaine for a weekend away. This Cafe was the only one available with seating inside on a cold winters day with a limit of 14 patrons we enquired twice and were turned away as their numbers were at the limit and so we waited outside for a considerable time waiting for patrons to finish and leave and be able to enter. We were approached by a female staff member who told us we should not be standing outside the cafe as we were stopping other patrons from entering and told rudely to move on. We live in a regional area in another part of the state where there is no cases of the disease we thought we were doing the right thing to spend our money in another region and boost their economy but this was downright rude.

Nothing bad to say about this place. Dropped in for some lunch and we were greeted by a friendly young chap. Menu is different to what is on Zomato, but we went with the veggie burger and arancini balls. Both were fresh and delicious! Baked goods inside looks yum. Not a bad place for a standard lunch and nice service.

I had good hopes for these place.
I was on a road trip around the area and deside to give it a go.
I have had my eye on this place for a while and have meant to give it a try awhile ago.
I drove across from Daylesford which was a beautiful drive , Castlemaine is such a beautiful part of Victoria.
I drove up and down the main streets looking for run, rabbit, run . I parked my car walked up.
I open the door and was taken back by how beautiful fit out it was warm and welcoming,
A lovely man greet me and I ordered a latte and sat down and jumped on Zomato and checked out the reviews , I had my latte and just soaked up the atmosphere and enjoyed my coffee which was one of the better coffees I have had outside of Melbourne.
After have a good coffee and seeing the reviews on zamato and feel a little hungry I deside to take a menu .
I looked it up and down over again looking for something but nothing jumped out at me so I ordered poached eggs on toast with sides of mushrooms, chipo sausage and hash brown,
I sat outside in the cool breeze
Sadly if that was the end of my experience it would have been a much better review,
My eggs where cooked well so no criticism on that but my bread seem to be stale, the bread was very chew, my mushrooms where pre cooked which I don't have a problem with but at least toss them through some butter, garlic, thyme or something and a good hit of salt .
I got one chipo sausages for $3 that was from Coles which was also prep cooked or even microwave possibly because it was very firm which I associate with a microwave.
But the thing that roped it off was the cheap Coles bought hash brown the was so over frayed when I put my Faulk in it smashed into a thousand pieces
I ended up not being able to Finnish it and walked back inside to a filling cafe space and the lovely man who I'm guessing is an owner asked me how it was and I just said " it was ok"
I really wanted to tell him how I felt but did want to make a seen.
It's a beautiful space and very nice stuff but with most cafe lacking in at least one area but sadly food is the problems and the problem is well below .
I will keep and eye on the place and hope for a change then give it ago again pure on the coffee and service or I would right this place off
My out come: give it a go and make up ur own mind

Been here a couple of times now. Great atmosphere, fresh and tasty food. Big thanks for the complimentary bottle of chilled water on a very hot day. I had a BLAT which was perfect, fresh quality ingredients.

Nice atmosphere and coffee. They were the only place still serving food later in the afternoon in Castlemaine and we had a lovely pie with a German-style potato salad. Nice selection of cakes and things, and friendly staff.

Incredible food and service. A must if you're ever in Castlemaine. The sweet potato and black bean burgers are top ten, check them out! Peter and staff are also very accommodating to all dietary requirements!

Perfect little cafe in Castlemaine - were looking for a nice local cafe on way through from Bendigo.
The atmosphere was cosy and local - wooden tables and comfortable seating. Limited but fantastic menu.
The off the bone ham toastie was perfect - and the zucchini and corn fritters perfectly balanced with ricotta, spinach and chutney.
Lovely service and stayed for a while to relax and read the paper - not rushed at all.
Looking forward to the house special rabbit pie which we took home for dinner.
A great spot to visit in Castlemaine.

Lovely spot in Castlemaine. We found the food tasty, the vibe relaxed and the service friendly (though perhaps a little slow for those of us sitting outside...or maybe that was because of a busy Saturday on a long weekend). Coffee wasn't bad either!

I've given this seemingly good cafe a few goes before giving up.
Coffee and service are very average served by young eye rolley staff.
The first time I went I ordered a sausage roll.. Unfortunately it never arrived.
The second time I ordered the recommended waffles. Officially the worst cafe breakfast I have come across. They were hard and deep fried like crazy, dry and oily. I have never once sent back food but this time I did.
Oh well.

Great little cafe, offers great food and service. Would highly recommend. Food fresh and of high quality. Has parking right outside. Seems busy sometimes

Great coffee- authentic chai and well presented gallery upstairs. Visited here twice last weekend for coffee, the coffee was really good, prompt service and the chai Latte was "the real deal" (not powder) - always a good sign - will be back for breakfast next time for sure. Also the gallery upstairs is well worth a look!

Very busy Castlemaine Cafe with an arty/rustic décor. Popped in for lunch today & was fascinated by the unique arty/rustic décor however my menu choice, their salmon dish just missed the mark, but the chips were to die for. My meal was served within 15 minutes of ordering. Young staff were polite, cheerful and very helpful - overall I liked it & will return in due course to try a different menu item.

Phill Jury (food critic & writer)

$17 for eggs ( over cooked ) and bacon ( two half sized rashes ) on toast. Outrageous !

Long waits; Strange ban on one large coffee!. I have been to Run Rabbit Run twice now. The first with a small group for lunch and cafe half full. We waited 45-50 minutes for basic meals. I had the chicken burger which had a strange combination of flavours! The side was sweet potato chips with an even sweeter aioli. Like a bad desert. Very sickly even for this sweet tooth!
I went for a takeaway coffee on boxing day this week as it was one of few cafes open. As I commenced my order for a takeaway large latte I was told they couldnt do a large coffee. When I asked if they had run out of cups the barista turned around and told me they were streamlining things today. Hmmm. Strange as the cafe was only half full and noone seemed run off their feet. What if I had ordered 2 coffees? I ordered the next size down. It was a really small coffee. Which I waited 12 minutes for.

Just had a lovely veggie burger which they were very happy to veganise. Will definitely go back and will have a soy latte too.

Ran like a rabbit out of the cold castlemain rain.... ...and was greeted snugly at Run Rabbit Run. Comfy cafe with deli/provedore items to take home. Today, we rain out snow and rain from well-resourced Kyneton and was really pleased with the menu here, and the lovely customer service (our waitress was so genuinely accommodating and pleasant, worth of commendations alone!). Difficult-to-choose-from menu covering standard all day brekky items to savoury lunch items. Husband had beef burger and devoured it without talking, ie, hit the spot (gorgeous zesty side salad worth trying alone). My scrambled eggs with side of avo and fetta was a little small if you're after a hearty winter meal but taste made up for it (spied the soup of the day and that looked lovely too). Semi decent coffee and good range of teas rounded it off nicely. Will return for salads...or vege burger (on GF bun! yeah), or rice pudding, or their pies...or their biccies?

Odd menu, nothin for kids. Grandma's toastie - $11.50 ... I mean, come on, a toasted sandwhich, $11.50? Nothing overly fantastic either. The salads were good, coffee nice, helpful waiter, weird menu, I mean, the only pie was a rabbit pie?

Gourmet and gluten free oasis. Super Duper Fantastic Food. The best burger my husband has ever had ( birthday boy), amazing GF options, a cake cabinet to die for and coffee heaven. Fabbo decor- rustic but cool, lovely staff and a “must visit/re-visit” location.

Nicely Done. We haven't been to Castlemaine before but a recent road trip from Adelaide landed us there late afternoon. Nothing in town was open but as we were hanging for a coffee and something to eat we asked a guy on the street and he pointed the way to Run Rabbit Run, it's tucked a way a bit why don't they have a sign? But it was pretty busy inside so I guess they don't need one? Fairly disappointed when they told us the kitchen was closed but then they pointed to all the things we could still order. I had rabbit pie, yep they actually have rabbit, and salad I would have prefered chips but beggars cant be choosers. Wife had quiche and salad both our meals were generous and nice and fresh even though it was pretty much the end of the day. Finished up with coffee which was great and a couple of cakes which they make there. Staff were friendly and pretty, which never hurts. We liked it so much that when we finished up in Bendigo a week later we came back for breakfast. Why dont you open one in Adelaide, we'll go there? Thanks

Just terrific. Just got back to south gippy after a memorable weekend in Castlemaine for their new Jazz Festival. I have to say all the venues were lovely and Castlemaine was the perfect host for the event given it's stunning architecture, however most of the acts that we wanted to see were at Run Rabbit Run, so that's where we mainly were. It became our home away from home as we ended up having breakfast there 3 mornings, dinner twice and many, many coffees. We loved there coffee so much that we ended up getting takeaways to take to the other venues. The staff really couldn't have been nicer, looking after us, remembering our names and greeting us warmly. The food was simple but homestyle and delicious. All in all I couldn't compliment them enough on what was obviously a very busy weekend. Well be back soon.

This rabbit can run. Came up with my husband on a day trip from Fitzroy. We stopped in at Run Rabbit Run, because of it's charming and welcoming atmosphere. Food was delicious! City quality dining in a casual and friendly setting. Coffee was amazing, though the barista was a little gruff, but that kind of added to the allure and charm. Waitresses were friendly and knowledgeable. Have tried Saffs on our last visit, and didn't rate it, but will definitely come back to The Rabbit.

Mediocre. Went to this new place for the first time with a friend. The decor is very dark and warren like. A little forbidding. I ordered a toasted ham and cheese sandwich and asked if I could have the relish and onion jam on the side. This could not be done. The sandwich was unremarkable. My friend ordered lemony peas on toast and this was badly in need of seasoning to give it some flavour ie. salt and pre-crushed pepper totally lacking in flavour. Why can't they provide a pepper mill? The serving staff were very friendly. I will not be returning.

Cool!. On a weekend getaway we popped in for coffee stayed for brunch, judging by how busy it was we aren't the only ones to discover this little newbie.
Really enjoyed the food, they had Black Pudding much to the delight of companion, great atmosphere and super friendly staff, wish it was my local.

What's to dislike?. We stopped in at Run Rabbit Run on our way back from Bendigo over the weekend. I'm surprised to see the percentage of dislikes because this place was packed and it was awesome! Looks like the other local cafes have got some heavy thumbs. I so wish this was my local. My only complaint is that they didn't have milkshakes. But I went for the iced chocolate and it was delicious. And the coffee was some of the best we've had. This place would be as welcome on Brunswick Street as it is in the heart of Castlemaine. My sister had the waffles, which looked amazing. She wasn't able to finish them. The serve was very generous. I had the corned beef and swiss toastie with chips and apple coleslaw and it was DELICIOUS. We'll be back!

I was taken for what what was a delicious and enjoyable lunch. I love thefit out of this cafe and the staff were very pleasant and friendly. I enjoyed the burger on pumpkin bread which was a very generous size and my grandparents had a chickem curry pie and the potato latkes (my grandma enjoyed these but to me the serve may need 3 rather than 2 latkes because as a dish it was on the smaller side). Coffee was good too. Overall had a great lunch!
