Review Derby Thai - Caulfield

Harshitha Shankar
This was the first authentic Thai food I tried, so, cannot compare with anything else! But the food was good, Thai chicken fried rice can never go wrong! Tried the prawn appetizer and the sauce was unique! Calm and cozy place which has a wide menu with increase in price by $1-$2. Most dishes have got same price for take away and dine in. It's better to dine in as you get the option to add-on extra sauce and spices present on table!

IG: melbfoodie_mark šŸ“Derby Thai, Caulfield East Great value for authentic Thai food! I honestly expected mediocre quality considering the price range, but WOW! Definitely exceeded my expectation. Amazing value for money - lunch deals for under $10 (and pretty big portion size as well!) We grabbed Thai Fish Cakes ($8), Satay Chicken ($8), Pad Thai Pad Thai ($12), Thai Red Curry ($9.5). I liked their satay chicken the most. Fresh, tasty and juicy - cooked to perfection. It's the perfect no-frills joint for a quick hearty lunch. If you are a student at Monash Caulfield campus, highly recommend you to check this joint out! - #melbfoodiemark #derbythai

I have been here a few times and I have never been disappointed. The environment is not the best for a dine in as it is small and the tables are sticky for some reason. However, I really like the food here. Pad Thai was good, very sweet but that's the way I like it. Roti was pretty good too. Sometimes they overcook it a little so it's a bit too crispy but it's not a big deal to me. Peanut sauce is nice too. Green Curry was tasty, not too spicy and very generous with the amount of meat. Overall, a good place for those who are looking for good food at affordable prices.

My favorite Thai restaurant! Everything I have tasted has been amazing, it feels like I am back on a holiday in Thailand when ever I place an order. Food is always fresh and delicious and prepared very quickly. The staff are lovely, my Uber eats app once malfunctioned and I accidently put my order through twice. The staff contacted me immediately to double check it was correct and advised me what I had to do to cancel the second order. They could have easily just made me two orders and not made the effort to check as technically it was not their fault.

Great experience! We went around 5pm on a Wednesday and it was not very busy. Service was extremely quick. Food was hot and delicious and great value for money! Would recommend.

A diamond in the ruff, Tasty & moist satay Chicken Skewers, delicious and fresh Singapore noodles, tender and rich duck red curry, fluffy and flakey prawn spring rolls. Value for money is a 10/10, This one's going on the saved list, staff were good, look a bit ran off their feet, but manages to get out food out quick and all in check

Awesome food. Best Thai food I had in Victoria so far :) have been going there for a while and it has always been a very pleasant experience.

Quite possibly one of the worst hospitality experiences Iā€™ve had in Australia. The service was absolutely woeful. The waitresses didnā€™t serve me, I had to self serve just about everything from water to chopsticks. I was given the side eye several times when asking for help/service & my partner and I werenā€™t welcomed from the start. Food was close to awful, lacked flavour and any form of taste. Was quite surprised it was a Thai restaurant given the food we were served. Overall a terrible, terrible experience.

This used to be my regular spot for lunch after class precovid. I usually go for the Thai fried rice or kaprow fried rice. The lunch deals are also pretty good. For $8 you get a curry with rice which is great especially for a student on a budget. Great value for your money.
Eden Abrahamov
Such a great thai restaurant. As they are open for lunch, which most aren't, its great as they have great deals too during that time. I used to pick it up while studying. Always so quick to prepare and reasonably priced. Not expensive at all considering the quality. My go-to for lunch.

Amazing value for authentic, freshly prepared Thai!!<br/><br/>I ordered the Thai salad with chicken takeaway, $9. Can also be ordered with beef instead.<br/>Very fresh with tender chicken, crisp salad and a refreshing dressing. I asked for extra chilli, hence the visible chilli flakes. Well worth the $9 price tag.
GoodFood
Called before getting there to confirm kitchen closes at 10. After driving for half hour and getting there only to realise they decided to close early. Not happy!!

Itā€™s one of my regular lunch place during office days. The lunch for 8.5 dollars, Iā€™m having it for the last five years. The taste didnā€™t change every time I go there. Such a consistent restaurant. When I ask to make it hot. Itā€™s super hot... people who like mild should definitely tell them prior. Love their lunch menu. Highly recommend if you are around Caulfield area during lunch

Being a former student at Monash Caulfield, this is one of my staple restaurants. <br/><br/>My fav is always the green curry with rice ($8.5) - normally get that as itā€™s cheap plus I love green curry. Overall I think the food is good, never too watery and the taste is there. And pretty cheap Thai food, like big portions at a really decent price.

Ordered the Pad Nam Mun Hoy with Chicken through UberEats. The Chicken was a little dry, but the sauce was flavourful.

Khow Pad Krapow šŸ˜ <br/>With brocolli, baby corn, carrots and other veggies šŸ„°<br/>- This picture was taken at derby Thai located at Caulfield (Melbourne)<br/>- The staff was very friendly and ambience was nice.<br/>- This fried rice was very delicious and there is a bit of a sweet taste as well. 5/5<br/>- Amazing experience would go back for sure ā™„ļøšŸ˜‹<br/>- Customisations are available .

Wanted somewhere quick that does delicious Thai food. Luckily, Derby Thai ticks both boxes. <br/><br/>Food: ordered Thai Fried Rice and Pad Thai. Both very tasty meals, however, Pad Thai was slightly better in my opinion. <br/>Service: quick service and friendly staff. <br/>Ambience: not much too this restaurant decor wise but didnā€™t bother me. <br/>
Willtravelforfood17
Love the pad thai here - it was fried really well and there was a generous serving of crushed peanuts on top. The dish was delicious with a squeeze of lemon juice. Very flavourful dish.
Austin0126
Absolutely a great Thai food restaurant!! You can try different dishes at a reasonable price. Highly recommended! Itā€™s near the Monash Caulfield campus and lots of people there during lunch.

Perfectfor a quick grab and go, this thai eatery have been here for years and they do amazing stir fries! Absolutely love the pad thai here
Pratik Bhumkar
Good food. Usual thai with flavourful dishes tasted almost all the items on their menu.<br/>Quantity is good. 3.5/5<br/>Pricing is decent. 4/5<br/>Ambience is not so good. They can make it way better than what they've got as they are pretty busy all the time. 3/5<br/>Service is depends on the time of day you're coming in. Usually item no 36,37 are available quick..<br/>Rude staff. That totally wrecks the experience sometimes.<br/><br/>Recommended: 36,37, gang dang curry
TXY
Huge portion for such price so definitely value for money! But they donā€™t really taste like authentic thai food :/ I feel that itā€™s overrated :/
Caulfied Eater
Terrible. They have changed owners. It is now Chinese staff and tastes like Chinese food, not Thai food. I have seen this happen a lot with them attemting other cuisines. The service was very rude - the standard no please, no thankyou, no greeting, no smile, etc. There were multiple people avoiding eye contact right in front of me while I was waiting for service for about a minute.<br/><br/>The food was average but mainly it's wasn't even made properly. One example is the chicken pad krapow (translates to basil chicken in Thai) and it didn't even have thai basil in it..... I honestly think the chef hasn't eaten much Thai food before because it was all wrong. All of the other dishes also followed the same theme.<br/><br/>Do yourself a favour and avoid this place if you like eating Thai food or like service.
Anj Ang
Never fails. They serve such flavorful curries and fried rice. Serving is pretty huge, given the price so Iā€™d say itā€™s pretty worth your money.

Easily one of the best Thai Fried Rice Iā€™ve eaten in my life. Itā€™s priced reasonably at $10 and comes with a big portion as well. I would recommend to order it with chicken as the pork is slightly too tough for my liking. Recently Iā€™ve also tried adding on omelette for an additional of $3 (slightly expensive) but it tasted really good! The restaurant is small so I would recommend not to come during peak hour as you may need to wait for seats if youā€™re planning to dine in.
Clarissa Cheong
One of the best Thai fried rice Iā€™ve ever had! Waitresses were friendly and the service was good and fast. The Thai omelette wasnā€™t on the menu, you gotta ask the waitress for an add on and it was only $3. For someone that loves Thai omelette, it was so worth it and really completes my meal. Only downside of the place was that the restaurant is too small..always packed with people and hard to get a table. Moving chairs around was troublesome too as it prevents other people from walking here and there.
CSL
Always been here for lunch since 2 years ago, the services is quick, set lunch comes with the affordable price, the most important thing is the food taste is very good, which is nearly to authentic! Cheers!

This place led me to start liking Thai Cuisine! I absolutely love their Curry and Rice Deal under $10. I try a new curry and stir fry everytime that I have gone there until now. Its a quick option too (mostly)
El Da Leonardo
Delicious cuisine. Really love the taste and price. Eating here feels like home to me. I really suggest this restaurant to you guys to try on.
Ollie
It's really the benchmark for Thai in the area. Modern setting, exceptional food and good value. Hard to find better Thai on this side of the river.
The Dear Luncher
Good reputation, and with good reason. Several visits over several years The Dear Luncher can testify with great confidence around Derby's consistency.<br/><br/>Just recently, an order via delivery for the first time. Not only was it delivered fast, it was a high grade meal. Penang curries are probably The Dear Luncher's favourite Thai curry and while a certain establishment in Carnegie wins the prize for best Penang, Derby isn't too far behind with their effort. Good chunky, solid strands of beef. Non chewy. Choc-full of veggies that were prepared right. Their flavours were not drowned out by the curry sauces.<br/><br/>The roti bread here is wonderful too. The Dear Luncher ordered to much of it and then was able to snack on the leftovers later that night. Melted into the couch like a proper slob, eating cold roti like a boss.
Rohan
Great value. Fresh. No frills. Was not disappointed and was pleasantly surprised too. Atmosphere was okay. <br/>Looking forward to the next time there.
Shiv
Excellent budget food!! <br/><br/>Been going there for ages and itā€™s just amazing value for your buck.<br/><br/>The curries are great. We normally get a couple of curries and a stir fry and itā€™s never disappointed.<br/><br/><br/>Love it, will keep going there. Totally recommend this place for quick, delicious and inexpensive takeout meals

Just had dinner with my friend. Pad Thai, the broccoli was not fresh at all and obviously dried out , must be exposed to air for a while. And tofu was tasted wired and highly likely off because it taste sour. Been there for a couple of times, this time is the last time and wont go there any more.

Reminded me food on streets of Bangkok, Great taste and incredible value of money. Extremely fast service even though it was very busy. Must visit place

GREAT GLUTEN FREE OPTIONS UPPON REQUEST šŸ˜Š<br/><br/>I recently moved to the area and have been here three times in the past few weeks and the food is amazing !!! Makes me feel like Iā€™m back in Phuket ! Even the prices are so damn cheap ! The customer service is fantastic and everyone is so friendly! I would highly recommend this place to anyone ! Thank you so much !

If you're in Caulfield and you're in the mood for Thai - this is your joint - no second thoughts! "Thai Fried Rice" is their most popular dish - and I love the chicken and extra spicy version!Ā <br/><br/>Next to Caulfield station, it is one of the oldest and most consistent Thai eatery in Melbourne and have been coming here since 2003 - my Monash uni college days - so I'm in love with this place from a very long time.<br/><br/>Mostly packed, walk-in casual restaurant with most dishes on the menu fairly priced & ticking all the boxes!Ā  Great for eat-in or take-away.<br/><br/>Highly recommended Thai joint in the area!
Jay Mahen
A small Thai restaurant not far from Caulfield train station. A thoughtful menu which has a good selection of rice noodle and stir fry dishes, which has to be ordered at the counter. Food is made in good time and with great flavours.
Nay Nay
Had Thai for dinner last night. This place only has limited spacing so you are lucky to get a spot. A great menu with some great traditional dishes aswell as some amazing specials. I thought the food was delivered quickly and to a high standard in flavour and presentation.
Jay Zhu
Usually come to the place for quick lunch. However I ordered Tom yum soup with rice noodles and one lunch special today, which in total is $18.5. I paid on card but when I came home I checked my account and found they charged me $3 more! Everyone should pay attention to pay by card in this restaurant.
HungryMonkey
The place was packed when we walked in. Itā€™s pretty small and can be easily missed as ā€œjust anotherā€ Thai shop but god was I wrong. The food was divine and good portions. Please donā€™t go in expecting fine dining service, go here for great quality food.

Derby Thai Caulfield has become more and more busy over the years- and I can totally understand why. Food is always fresh and delicious. My favourites are the green curry and pad see ew.<br/>I've been eating here for the last 6 years and the only issues I've found are probably the small restaurant space (hence why I always get takeaway now) and waiting times have gotten a lot longer owing to the amount of customers. Often have trouble getting through on the phone (frequently engaged) so try online instead!
Dine And Dash
Came here today for a takeaway lunch.<br/>The restaurant is quite small but at around 2 pm it was very busy so it took some time for me to be able to order. The staff member who served me was efficient and friendly.<br/>I ordered the Thai Beef Salad and asked for it to be extra spicy.<br/>After only waiting 10 minutes, my salad arrived. It was a plentiful serving and for $8, I was quite impressed. The sauce was tangy and beautiful and the salad was delicious.Ā <br/>I was completely satisfied with my experience and will more than likely go back there again.
AurelienZz
My favourite Thai place, but unfortunately today encountered a staff member who was very rude and unpleasant. She misunderstood my order and thinking I had tried to change part of a special deal for something more expensive told me off when I was simply trying to order two separate dishes. No apology either!
Nads
Favourite restaurant around Monash Caulfield campus, always bustling with people. Prices are always cheap, especially the $8.50 curry and rice special which is always good value. Itā€™s always a great place to stop by for some cheap yet tasty Thai food. Havenā€™t tried a dish here that I didnā€™t like.

Remember how people say good food can change your mood and make your day better? Derby Thai does exactly that. Authentic Thai comfort food served hot and in measured quantities enough for one person to enjoy without any guilt or discomfort. Ordered the chicken Pad Krapow with a side of rice for a stealing price of $8.5. The chicken was fresh and juicy, the curry had enough fresh herbs and vegetables to balance out the taste and make it an amazing culinary experience.
The.Top.Lifestylee
The food is incredible and good every time. Although they canā€™t deal with busy times, it seemed very frantic and they ran out of rice. It took close to 30 minutes to get food. Also found that dining in you get less food then if you get takeaway. The roti is the best I have ever had and the $8.50 deals are very generous. Definitely recommend just not in busy times.
Shane-joe
Ordered a delivery and received the worst service I have ever had, order not completed and then they lied to me about not having any drivers to complete the order , waited for 90minutes and then when I rang was told that they werenā€™t going to deliver , never rang to refund my money for the items that were missing . Never again
Yuxi Li
Have been there a lot because my friends and my boyfriend like it so much. The tom yum soup is realli good and the salad is also worth to try.
Jc_007
Best best Thai place!!!<br/>LOVE LOVE ā¤ļøā¤ļøtheir pad thai! The sauce is amazing and the noodles never overcooked. Their morning glory with beef is so yummy. Really good sauce! Also pepper beef is a must-try. Such a small place but ALWAYS so busy! Amazing food at even better prices! A definite favourite!!!
Charlotte Cooper
High rating and everyone says itā€™s good. I think itā€™s just normal Thai food but itā€™s very cheap for sure.<br/>Fast service, great place to take away but not great for dine in
The Little Foodlet
The place is located right across the street from the Caulfield Station. It's warm and welcoming, and easy to locate.<br/><br/>Chicken Thai Fried Rice (image): Clean flavours, great taste. It's a crowd favorite here.<br/><br/>Chicken Khow Pad Krapow (image): This one has a little heat going on. Stronger flavours. Absolutely loved this.<br/><br/>The portion sizes are huge. And ensure that you get value for your money. Highly recommend this place.
Amit Jena
This a nice place near the Caulfield station for authentic Thai food. You can have it here or take away. The Thai fried rice that I tried was really good. You can taste the Thai flavours that they try to bring in.<br/>A must try affordable place.
Jojo Armani
16 years ago, my first meal here was a simple yet hearty Thai fried rice cooked by the lovely Thai lady owner back then and I have not forgotten how good it tasted.<br/><br/>Needless to say, Iā€™ve been back occasionally since and sampled a variety of other dishes. Of course, times have changed and a new generation of kitchen crew has taken over. There were times when the same dishes can be slightly inconsistent, yet never a meal so bad that itā€™s inedible.<br/><br/>Yesterday, I ordered Rad Na noodles with pork. This is somewhat a Thai version of the Cantonese Wat Tan Hor, minus the egg. While it may not appeal to some, as the flavours are lighter and more subtle than the more common Thai dishes, it hit the spot for me as I didnā€™t feel like anything too heavy.<br/><br/>My partner (who is fairly new to this place) ordered the pork green curry with rice. He reckoned that it was sweeter than most Thai green curries he has had so far and was fairly disappointed with it. We also shared a portion of larb gai which was okay, yet somehow not as good as when we had it previously.<br/><br/>Service is basic, yet adequate. You order and pay at the counter, get a number, grab your own napkins, drinks and water, and your food will be delivered to your table. No big deal. It is a casual eatery after all.<br/><br/>Overall, it isnā€™t the best Thai place around, but definitely good value for money as the portions are generous.
Decent Feed
Was feeling a bit peckish so we ordered some appetisers from Derby Thai. Thereā€™s little space in the restaurant and doesnā€™t seat many people, so I would definitely suggest coming during a non peak hour period, or just getting takeaway. <br/>We got the curry puffs and the Goon Hom Pla - both came with 5 pieces which we thought were generous servings for an appetiser! Definitely worth it. <br/>My favourite was the Goon Hom Pla, kind of like spring rolls except the filling is purely prawn. They gave us a serving of sweet chilli sauce to go with it. It was crunchy and fresh. <br/>Seeing as the appetisers were so good, Iā€™ll definitely be back to try their curries! Itā€™s the perfect takeaway restaurant for something quick and cheap.
Ray
I used to very much enjoy the massaman beef here at Derby Thai. However coming back here after a while itā€™s disappointing to see theyā€™ve replaced the slow cooked beef with a poor quality tough beef strip. The service also has dropped with staff finishing off whatever task they were doing before coming to serve. The value of rice and stir fry combo is still quite good.
Yuki Guo
Always like their curries with rice.A healthy choice as they always have different vegetables with the curry. Price is really good as well. A good place to have a quick meal. Can be really busy at lunch time tho.
Siddharaj Junnarkar
This Place serves comfort food! Huge Huge fan of their Curry and Rice Combo! each curry is absolutely lip smacking! And for the price, it's a steal deal!
Choc Pudding
I have been here a few times. Foods always tasty and came out quick. Not a place to sit for a long time since it is quite small and always crowded. More like a place to eat quickly. Price is really good for what you get.
Akshatha NP #imsofull
Best place to eat around Uni. They do complete justice to Thai food. Highly recommend to eat Green curry chicken with rice & their Thai fried rice.
Jenny Pham
Ordered via ubereats for some padthais. It was really tasty and like a party in my mouth. Usually Thai places would make it too sour or sweet to adapt to the Aussie tongues but this one is just right - the Thai way. They were indeed very quick and delivered very fast šŸ˜ always my favourite thai place
Munching Pandas
Totally worth it for this price range. The taste is authentic especially for its curry. The portion of the dish here is very large also. If you like sweet, i recommend you to get the pad thai or thai fried rice. The dessert was ok also but need improvement on the texture and sauce, beside that everything is wonderful
Vivi861
Lots of people, limited seats. So sometimes you have no choice but choose take away instead. Fair price, but the air quality inside is bad, and a little bit noisy.
Who Loves Good Food
This little Thai eatery is super busy during lunch hours on weekdays, catering largely to nearby uni students. They are quite small so many drop in to get takeout. We prefer to dine in as always. Tried the massaman beef curry & fried rice with duck. Both were delicious but just a tad too sweet for our liking. Nonetheless, price was reasonable & the menu exciting.
Tran
Good location, the place to go for cheap thai food! Thai beef salad was a bit disappointing imo, just cheap mixed leaf salad with chewy beef. Pad thai and tom yum were pretty good, satisfying portion sizes. Service was average.
Andrea Porcaro
Visited this place for lunch today after walking past so many times on my way to uni. Now I'm glad I don't regret going there sooner. I ordered takeaway lunch: The seafood noodles in red curry sauce. When they say sauce they mean soup. It was like a bland laksa with a few bits of seafood and a lot of small mussels and fish cakes- and 1 prawn! The noodles were outnumbered by bamboo shoots (even though they were yummy, there were way too many in there) - and I don't know what they were thinking when they added peas to this dish. Everything about it was weird and dissatisfying. Also noticed the dine in customers received priority for serving food. It makes sense takeaway customers are in more of a rush...? Waited half an hour for a small box of soggy noodles and will never be coming back here which is a shame because the area lacks good cheap meals despite being so close to Monash uni.
Hannah Pe Benito
Very very very bad customer service. Especially the lady with short hair -Ā  she is very rude. Two bad experiences with this restaurant: 1. the lady with short hair made fun of our names 2. they gave my order to someone else and they did not even apologise for the mistake. I understand that it is not an expensive restaurant but that does not mean that customer service has to be rude
Alex
Small Thai restaurant just near the uni. Interior quite cheap but food really good! Ordered two meals and were served so quickly! Great authentic Thai food!
Lisa Lang
Have had delivery from this place on numerous occasions, food was good! . Something has definitely changed. I ordered a beef curry massaman, which came with the tiniest and rubber like meat. The entire dish was just onions. The pad Thai was just an absolute soggy mess, taste was horrific. Took one mouthful and could not digest the rest. I am so disappointed . Highly not recommended. If this place had a minus rating, I would rate it -10.
Aanart Bhachech
I had heard a lot about this place from my college mates so walked in to see what the fuss was all about. We ordered a Chicken Pad Thai and a Chicken Thai Fried Rice. Both the dishes were good. A good courteous staff, good food makes up a great experience.
Susie Demery
I have become coming to derby Thai for a long time and whilst the service was never amazing the food was always good. Last night we ordered through uber eats and the uber eats part was fine but the food was just average. My beef cashew nut dish was tough and chewy with so much onion it was ridiculous, but the real kicker was finding a very long black hair in the green Thai curry and today my partner is putridly ill from this meal. Never again will we step foot here.
Amanda Ng
Authentic Thai food! Pad see ew was amazing. Although their shop could really expand a bit more to cater to students and the general public, the food here is good both dine in and take away!
Sienna Kim
So bad customer service!! <br/>I didn't expect very good service in small take away shop, but not this terrible service.<br/>We order 4 dishes taking away. They're so busy, that's why we didn't pushed them to hurry, even they served dine in table who ordered later then us. We kept waiting until they finished meal!! So unorganised!! How they served like this?? Everyone had a foods in a couple of minutes, but we're waiting more than half an hour!!<br/>I think they made a mistake, because the noodle and soup were cold already! But, only one meal was warm... <br/>If they made mistakes, why didn't explain to us or said sorry?? If they do that, I wouldn't write this kind of review. <br/>One more thing!! I asked extra chilli, but the waitress said "one per one bill". So ridiculous!!! Then if I order 1 dish x 4times, can I get a 4 of extra chilli??? Finally, she throwaway extra chilli in my bag lol Thank you, I'm so appreciated for your kindness!! <br/>When we left the shop, she realised she gave me wrong dishes and blame us like why you took the wrong one!! We didn't took it, you gave us wrong one!! I wasted one hour for ordering my dinner..... ahhhh the taste also all the same as 4 dishes hahaha how awesome was my last dinneršŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘
Ben Beh
I don't often post reviews unless a place deserves it or if the food is terrible and in this case it was definitely terrible! I have eaten here quite a few times during lunch and usually order their chicken pad gra pao on rice special which is great value at $8.50 but tonight we decided to get take away dinner and it was a totally different experience! The pad gra pao dish as a main lacked the fresh chilli, thai basil, lemon grass and lime leaves that the lunch special has and the beef salad was made with sweet chilli sauce and even had alfalfa sprouts in it which is definitely not authentic! plus the beef was tough. The chicken satay wasn't marinated, in fact it tasted like boiled chicken with just some peanut sauce on it and definitely not something I would call satay sauce! Anyways that's the end of my rant, luckily I know they can prepare decent food when you eat in but if this was my first time experience I definitely would not have given them a second chance.

Best thing about this place is that it brings Thailand to Melbourne. A quaint, lime green restaurant that is literally a corner shop. Located conveniently near a train station, bus stop and tram stop- you have no reason to miss it. You can smell it 50meters away. I love that it's; cheap to cater for the uni students, perhaps from Monash? Great quality. Fresh taste. Never dull. However, downsides to this restaurant has got to be the limited seating. You can hardly squish yourself into a seat, let alone, squeeze thru the door to place a take away order. Hopefully the future plans are to make an extension so I can enjoy my meal in their presence! Is that creepy?
Foodie Gal
Cheap Thai dinner. I ordered chicken pad Thai and satay chicken skewers. I waited 40 mins for my flavourless pad Thai and cold chicken skewers. I had to add chilli flakes and salt to make my pad Thai edible and heat up the chicken skewers which looked like they were pre-cooked. Overall disappointing especially since there were so many good reviews, I'm not sure why this place is so popular the food is average and customer service can improve.
Jk95
Amazing food, some of the yummiest take out Thai I've found in Melbourne. Insanely cheap, exceptional value for money! Quality meat used.<br/>Always relatively quick too, especially considering how busy they can get... 10/10 would recommend, had never let me down!
Hannah Ryan
Yum as! I always order their takeaway curry and rice special which is around $8. It's delicious and always leaves me with left overs for a second meal the next day! It can be busy some nights which means wait times can be a little bit long but if I call up in advance it's not an issue
Nadia
One of the best pad Thai I've ever tried. Small place mostly for a take away but very very nice. Also try their duck curry when it's on special
J0yy173
Good quality, good value Thai dishes popular with the local uni students next to Caulfield Racecourse and train station. Delicious morning glory and roasted pork crackling stir fried with garlic and chilli. The small space meant sharing a table and meeting people... a Thai lady who has been here many times. I consider that endorsement.
Teddy Fung
Food is great here but the service is terrible, especially for the short hair lady, her attitude was the worst, including shouting at customers and serving wrong food without apology. I would not recommend this restaurant during dinner time because they cannot handle the amount of order come from UberEATS and foods can take up to 30mins waiting time, which is totally not worth it, and their attitude become worse once the amount of order increases, which is not the way a restaurant should operate. This only sends your customers away.
Oes Tokki
Always busy and always fresh. You will find here a little restaurant that doesn't look like much from the outside but the food is always right for the price!
EatToLive
Derby Thai is one of Monash student's favorite eateries in Caufield. The quality of the food is always decent and it's best for quick meals during the week. The price is relatively cheap and service is prompt. Dining area is always cramped as they get busy all the time. If you come around Monash Caufield and feel like quick fix for Thai. Derby Thai is where I personally recommend to you.
Subhanjana Sanyal
Had a great lunch this sunny morning.though I don't like thai cuisine so much..but Derby Thai changed my opinion..the platters were really nice & tasty along with a good service with reasonable price..love to have some more items soon...
Mandja
We had prawn pad Thai, chicken kaprow and Thai beef salad<br/>First 2 were excellent- large succulent prawns, good boneless chicken<br/>Beef in salad not over cooked but just ok<br/>Will go back as we have for years moe
Simon B
Ordered it through Uber Eats. No issues with delivery. The food on the other hand was really bad. Didn't taste authentic at all. Spring rolls were horrible with no filling only rice noodles and wrapping. Chicken noodle soup was OK but too sweet, full of sugar. <br/>Pad Thai tasted bland no chilli at all. Won't order from there again. Uber Eats was brilliant though, fast convenient and tracking was great.
Win
I ordered the pad thai with prawn. It was way too salty... Left half my meal on the plate. My boyfriend wanted to order the green chicken curry but was told that they were out of rice so he ordered the pad see ew. Also way too salty. I really didn't enjoy the food. It's cheap and the portion size is great but what's the point if I can't eat it. Would not recommend.

Derby Thai has always been the family's Thai food go-to. That said, it can be pretty hit and miss with regards to their more famous dishes; they're either brimming with flavor, too much sodium, or not enough; their food can be well-cooked or their veggies slightly under-cooked (sometimes cold). This goes especially for their Thai seafood fried rice and chicken pad Thai, which they churn out in greater numbers than most dishes. The quality seems to depend on what time of day you come in and who's cooking.<br/><br/>They have served the pad med mamuang, other curries and non-rice, non-noodle dishes with surprising consistency though.<br/><br/>Eating in can be a bit of challenge considering the number of seats and tables, and having a group of 4 can be prohibitive during lunch and dinner. Service is quick though, despite the occasional rudeness as it does get very, very busy. I've never had issues when picking up food and that has been an altogether good experience.<br/><br/>This is cheap, flavorsome fare and situated beside Monash university, you can't fault them for value.

Can never get enough of Derby Thai !! Value for money :-) <br/>Short menu to choose from, avoids the confusion ! <br/>I only wish it had more seatings :-)

The best Thai nearby. Freshly cooked meals are reasonable for budget take away. My favourite is pad ki mau. Only problem is its space. Often crowded and difficult to get a seat.

I have been here few times with friends; I always have the the Pad Thai or the fried rice. The potion size is generous and the price is great. But for the last 2 times I have found that beside the noddles and prawn in the pad thai were warmish some of the other components like the baby corn, the broccoli were cold. I did mention to the waiter/waitress but they did nothing. <br/>I know I might be a small customer and not a regular customer so they might not care that much. <br/>I am not going to come back.

delicious thai food with great prices! I had the same quality in other places with at least 1.5 times the prices here. great variety, nice staff. it's just too small, not good for meeting or catch ups but great food.

Came here with my friend for a quick lunch before going to our exam. I had the Chicken Pad Thai and it was no joke the best one I've eaten so far. The flavour was just perfect, no need to add extra soy sauce or pepper & salt. Pretty cheap too! Left with a Happy Tummy :)

The best Thai food I have ever eaten I come here quite often and it never ever lets me down. Their vegetarian pad Thai is by far the best and the value for meals is unreal me and my partner get an entree and two mains for 26 dollars ! Go here it is always going to be worth your while!!!

The $8.50 lunch deal is great. I got a red curry with tofu and wasn't disappointed. The curry used to be more watery and bland, so I'm not sure if they've improved or it's hit and miss. <br/><br/>

Had the stir fry beef in oyster sauce with rice yesterday, and although it kind of taste like normal stir fry beef at other restaurants that I've been to, I found that for the price $8.50, it was pretty good. Service was quick, which was good for me because I was quite hungry. Although..I think because I was so hungry and after receiving an email with good news, I didn't chew my food properly and had a stomach ache shortly after :(<br/>However, overall it was one of the best places to eat at Caulfield :)

Always the best! I'm giving a 4.5 instead of 5 because of the poor service sometimes, but other than that cannot complain. Love the seafood/prawn fried rice. It's perfect and just so delicious! How great this food is cannot be translated into words, you just have to taste!

Tried these guys with Deliveroo. The food was cooked very quickly and on it's way.<br/><br/>Great authentic thai flavours. Had the chicken massaman curry and the oyster sauce beef and veges.<br/><br/>Find me on Instagram: @melbourne_explorer.
Really good Thai food. I love the fish cake and the red curry. The roasted duck was really well done with the sweet lychee anf pineapple. My friend ordered fired noodles which was also good with the sauce.
