Review Laffa Bar - Caulfield

Yoni Ben-David
Fantastic place for excellent Israeli food. We had mixture of different salads and meats that brought back a lot of memories for us of living in Israel many years ago. The food was very fresh and delicious and very well presented and was all perfect. All the staff were also super friendly and professional, and made us feel very welcome. We will certainly be back again!

Laffa bar always has fresh meat and salad produce. It will cost more than other places but you get quality here. Staff very friendly and accommodating to requests. Love the lamb laffa with all salads and dips.

Had really nice shawarma, kids had chicken schnitzel, which they ate with pleasure and a plate of dips and salads, of which the star was baba ghanoush. The staff are really friendly, which adds too the pleasant experience.

Ktir ktir rawa3! I loved za’atar taboon, kipfler batata and baked cauliflower with tahini. The food here is authentic and honest to the cuisine, and is highly enjoyable :)

Excellent in value, service, quality and kashrut. Strongly recovering from the world's heaviest lockdown.

All naan, no meat The mix grill platter is an absolute ripoff. The bread weighed more than the kebabs. You would be better off buying $12 marinated kebab skewers from coles, $3 naan and $2 hummus. Ordered the mix grill platter online. Even paid extra for steak kebabs. The entire bill totaled $90, plus the McDonald's afterwards. It is supposed to feed two, but a stretch of a meal for one.

6/10 meats are a bit dry, 7/10 for the chicken, all are well presented, 9/10 for the freshly baked bread.

The food is good, a lot of options for a coeliac people too. But my girlfriend and I went there few nights ago: she bought a chicken laffa (sort of kebab) and I had a platter of a "beef and lamb" kebab. The platter was more expensive than a normal kebab but had less of everything. At the end the price of 2 kebabs was $43. Shocking. Never paid 2 kebab so much and never will do again

Their freshly baked bread is amazing, easily the best feature of this place ...

Meat was dry, chicken was good and presentation is amazing.

We expect better quality for the price that they are charging.

Kosher Jerusalem's beer is interesting.

I've been coming to Laffa Bar for over 5 years now and can't fault it in any way. Each time I go I am reminded of just how incredible it is every time. Honestly can't find better middle-eastern laffa's in Australia!

A $26 chicken salad that came with 2 chicken skewers (8 small pieces of chicken) and basically just lettuce and spinach. There was one strand of carrot and 2 cherry tomatoes and covered in mayonnaise. What a rip off. I'm still hungry.
Best all I say on this one is ..... we ordered the lamb & hummus dish to take away and were less than impressed with the meagre offering of lamb given the cost of $18.

Portions are tiny, way over priced for what you get.
You will go hungry. They are very cagey on meat portions and salad of all items. Do not go here as the meat is tiny but is nice. Just have to order a lot so need a amount of cash

Came to Laffabar Charcoal Grill with some of my family - we were a table of 4. We got there quite early at 6:30pm and it was lucky that we did because any later you’d need to make a booking as the place was packed and people were being turned away.
One half of the restaurant serves the takeaway clientele and the eat-in area is separate. Lots of men cooking the food in the open kitchen and only one waitress in the restaurant. However, she was amazing; super friendly and knowledgeable and super efficient. She couldn’t have performed any better.
There's a huge menu which includes Israeli dips and salads, falafel, fish, chicken and of course their signature dish of Schwarma. There were lamb, schnitzel and steak - just about everything you could think of.
We chose for the entrée, the Chicken Drumettes, Merguez Sausage and the Laffa bread with garlic and a side of hummus. The drumettes were succulent and juicy - there were 6 of them which was perfect for an entrée size and they were coated with the delicious Laffabar barbecue sauce. The Merguez is a spicy lamb and beef Moroccan style sausage which was spicy, flavoursome and it came out piping hot! It was served with sauerkraut and mustard on the side. The Laffa bread was great to share for an entrée, ripping pieces off, dipping it in the hummus, the barbecue sauce or eating it by itself - just fresh and awesome!
For mains, we ordered from the grill, Aged Scotch Fillet Steak and the Skewers of Steak. All the steaks were cooked to perfection, as we ordered it. Those having the skewers could choose two sides. We chose Israeli salad, red cabbage, and onions with sumac. The Scotch Fillet Steak came with an amazing fresh garden salad with a vinaigrette dressing to die for! I ordered a side of the warm sautéed mushrooms. We ordered a side of chips and they came hot and crunchy and were delicious.
For dessert, we shared a Dessert Laffa which was crunchy Laffa bread topped with chocolate sauce and fresh strawberries. It was heavenly and a perfect end to a delicious meal. I wish I hadn’t shared it.
Unfortunately, the night we came, we were in a bit of a rush so we’d love to come back and try more things and take our time.
A good place to come with lots of people as there were many things to share. Prices are on the higher side but probably due to it being Kosher but when the food and service are this good, you don’t mind a bit.

Casual but nicely arranged dining place. Food is delicious. Everyone enjoyed their meal. I had a grilled chicken burger and it’s full of flavours. It was fantastic! Service was good too. Apparently they only do take away for lunch on working days. But if you have a group of people they take lunch reservations even on weekdays.

A must try if your in the Caulfield area. I have tried nearly every dish on the menu. My favourite when eating there is the mix grill platter. The staff are friendly always try to please and they take reservations.

Sometimes the restaurant is pumping and busy with the restaurant area busy and the take away busy as well. They are also frantic with Deliveroo orders so you know the food is extra fresh as they have a huge turnover of food.

It is not a fine dining establishment so no table clothes etc and staff are friendly and try hard. It is a good family friendly place where you can have fish, salads, falafel, Skewers of fish/chicken/beef/lamb and the Schwarma is just scrumptious.

They are famous for the "lafa bread" which is the size of a small pizza. Worth trying.

Also really great for take away and small catering events or office catering.

A must visit and friendly establishment.

This is a lovely place... delicious food.. hummus platter is super yum.. and all the skewers are pretty good. The roasted eggplant with tahini is one of the top menu items.. overall its a bit pricey but worth trying this place out.. 👍

Hit and miss. Great shnitzel burgers, but paid $15 for 4-5 nugget size pieces of chicken, so a little disappointed. Usually very busy so book ahead.

The service was far from great. The grilled fish made up for the sloppy service. I'm keen to come back as the food was great. The staff may have just have been having a bad night.

To be honest, the food can be good on it's day but the service is plain rude verging on racist. If you're not Israeli, or just look plain Aussie, expect poor service, smaller portions and condescending interactions.

Baked cauliflower is divine! Ironic given it's a meat restaurant:). Although expensive, the chicken and schnitzel burgers are really good too.

Food is adequate but service is as bad as anywhere in Australia. After a number of visits for takeaway food over the last few years I am still waiting to come home and actually have the entire order in the bag (funny they never have more than you order in the bag). When you politely try to discuss this with the owner he could not be ruder and less interested in your feedback.

daily fish was very fresh. i like the grilled fillet. But it takes quite long time to have meal and a bit expensive ($150 for three). The eggplant dish below is just so so
Mrs Mark
Standard bar and grill in Caulfield however they are always out of lamb shawarma which is quite ironic. Timely service. The chicken skewers with salad were good. Schnitzel was a bit dry

Had a few lunches here. Hit and miss. Today was a soggy bread - could have been warned on the grill since wasn't fresh-,with uncooked meat. -chewy and also not warm. I recommend to come on a Friday when there is a volume of people and they prepared to serve you with fresh. Mid week is only precooked laffas for lunch by the look of it. Haven't have a chance to experience dinner, but I will give a miss

Oh, those magnificent Laffas and what's in them. The place is called “Laffa Bar Charcoal Grill” – but it’s the first word in the name I want you all to focus on.
Everything off the girl is yumi, flavourful & succulent. Great salads & appetisers.
But when the grilled meat is rolled in a ‘Laffa’ (For those not in the know, it’s a middle eastern flatbread that combines all the best features of a Pita and a Naan),or used to dip in one of the salads?
Pure heaven!
A texture unlike any other, flavoursome, elastic enough to not tear under its “burden”, chewy enough to have a presence of its own, porous enough to “sponge in” all the flavours of the “fillings” in it.
Not to be missed.

Major let down and disappointment. Looking at the reviews I was quietly exciteded for a great evening. However it was easily seen at first look of the menu this was a higher-than-normal priced glorified kebab take away restaurant with an extended sit down restaurant. However, with the knowledge of a high rating we sat down and ordered expecting a fantastic meal. But yet again a disappointing plate landed in from of me. A dish I would not have paid 15$ for at a good take away now costing me 32$. All I can say is, not one of my finest dinners by a long shot.

Best Laffa...in the world?. I have been coming to Laffa Bar since the first week it opened and it has never disappointed on quality, freshness, scrumptiousness or to fill the hunger void. The Laffa itself is second to none. I have travelled the world in search of bread this good and always find myself unsatisfied until i am back at Laffa Bar. Thanks Guys!

Best food ever. We went to celebrate my husband's birthday (12 of us) and received huge amount of food. We could not stop eating, it was so tasty. This was the best quality chargrilled meat and freshest salads with amazing bread. We had so much fun and we will defiantly be back. Thank you for the great service and an amazing birthday. Highly recommended. Big Like.

Great food, friendly atmosphere. Laffa bar is always a great feed, fresh juicy meat (I favour the lamb shwarma) with freshly prepared salad. It has a lively atmosphere, a bit like being at a market sometimes, but that adds to the experience. They have opened a nice dining area where you can enjoy the tapas-style middle eastern fare in a relaxed setting.

This place is such a joke. If you want what is essentially an over priced souvlaki with a 20min wait and people stepping on your toes then this is the place to go! The food isn't even worth it.

Fully rennovated - looking great. Laffa Bar take away has undergone an amazing renovation in the take away area and opened a brand new restaurant which sits over 60 people right next door to the take away.
Beautifully renovated with delicious plates, nice friendly staff - the ideal dining experience.

Disappointed AGAIN!. Five of us got takeaway and all were disappointed. Everyone crowds into a small area to give their orders making the atmosphere almost suffocating. Our food was prepared in reasonable time but when we got home we realised that we were missing 2 serves of the laffa bread, the laffa that we did get was below standard with large holes and parts that were burnt and crumbly. The lamb on the skewer looked more like a mixed kebab and not what I was expecting. I may have misunderstood this but the crowded and rushed atmosphere does not lend itself to clarifying one's order. The chicken on the skewer, however, was very good with great flavour.
Overall, the mixed grill which was supposed to come with a large serve of chips, was too small for the $54 price tag. others in the group were also disappointed in the size of their meals.
I've given this place enough chances and I've had enough.

The worst experience I've had. I asked for a shawarma and got told no, the person behind me asked for one and he happily got one. Had to get a burger instead and the bun was burnt so bad I had to use bread from home after all that I took a bit to find out the burger wasn't cooked. Most horrible place I've been

Delicious. Laffa Bar is a fantastic easy take away option, servings are large and food is always fresh and delicious!
Lucy
Only good thing is the bread. Overpriced!!! hilarious!!! $75 for 4 of us, two were children who ate nothing but salad and felafel. Their individual salads are $6 each for tiny tiny bowls. Go over the road next time, just as yummy and normal pricing. They do not even offer water for the tables. Not ever again.

The Chicken Shish in the Laffa bread is amazing, although its not cheap its well worth the experience. Surprised by negative comment, try for yourself

Cheap crap meat! I gave this restaurant several tries and was grossly disappointed each time. also very overpriced even for kosher
