Review Zagame's Caulfield - Caulfield

Good atmosphere, nice set up. Entree we had the spanner crab was yummy, however the beef Wellington was not up to standard, the pastry wasn’t cooked properly, outside was hard and dry but inside was under cooked, beef didn’t taste good either might be just old, 2 sauces were watery, sides were fine. The whole meal was not very appetite to eat, we finished not even a quarter, then paid and left.

Excellent customer service. Great food and atmosphere. Perfect night out after a long time!

We went and ate at the bistro ... not the up market restaurant part... and found it awful. Dirty tables and chairs. I ended up wiping our own tables and chairs. Strict rules on entry rewards to covid, yet the staff wearing masks on their chin. Toilets down stairs dirty. No bins. No change area for babies either. Found that the staff couldn't care less.

Went there for dinner. Ordered the charcoal gnocchi and a side of chips. Tasted nice but the gnocchi was a main but the portion was less than an entrée. For $30.00 I expected a lot more gnocchi in the plate. Lucky I ordered the chips or I would’ve left starving. Not worth it. Won’t be going back.

Great service from the staff and the food was delicious too, only negative was the wait time was a bit excessive. Although, the wait was made easier by the indoor playground our child was able to play on in the meantime. Definitely worth a visit.
Bissy Body
Dirty gaming venue with no hand wipes about like other venues. Staff walk around & could be cleaning the machines. Relaxed rules about masks, yet strict criteria for entry??? The manager Mary can be hot n cold, friendly one day & rude another. Glasshouse around the corner is a much better venue that practice better hygiene. I think staff at this venue should be more enthusiastic about their jobs.

Food was great. A playground is available inside for kids, which is a bonus. Prices are on a bit higher side, but still reasonable. Staff was nice and friendly.

Dear, Slumdog millionaire, have a great life little brother. Don't ever cross my path again. To the owner.. that is how you hire staff? Based on lies of your so called security company. Don't reply back as you have accomplished more than enough damage to my life! 👑🦁♥🖐👋🖐

Ordered the kangaroo loin and it was raw. $29 for raw kangaroo that I couldn't eat.

Have been to Zagames restaurant many times. The food is amazing. Great for families. Food is fresh and served hot. Service is five star. All the staff we encountered last night were friendly and couldn't do enough to assist us. Have eaten at many hotels but this one would be my favorite by far

It use to be so beautiful here . Menu changed big time. None of us enjoyed our meals which is suite dad considering 5 different meals for 5 people . The best feature was the cheesey garlic bread but way overpriced at 9.00 for the small amount of bread we got We won’t be back

Disappointed tonight with the treatment we received from the staff tonight - sorry staff were fine the bar manager was just pathetic and unreasonable. After enjoying a good afternoon watching the footy and celebrating a win by the Tigers - not my team but a mates team - our evening was spoilt by what I would call a very over officious bar manager who decided that our group had, had enough. Now, my extremely " out of control group" consisted of 4 old blokes of 54 years of age and one 52 year been old. We had drinks -definitely - but reality was we were nowhere near anything like drunk. Blokes our age are not looking for trouble or even to obliterate ourselves we are there to enjoy sport and old school mates company. We just want to enjoy the fun and atmosphere of a friendly local pub. Sadly this pub just lost us in the friendliness stakes. I am writing this in the same bar at the same time so I'd like to think that I am sober enough to be making sense!! I'll let the reader be the judge. What was more disappointing was that my over officious friend couldn't even give a reasonable explanation after I approached the bar for an explanation. It was a sad and disappointing end to our evening and we had been to a few games in recent times to this pub and had enjoyed the experience. Tragically It's now made us reconsider the pub we would like to watch the Grand Final and also future games of Footy and Rugby. I am not a supporter of over indulgence by any stretch of the imagination but pub managers need to ensure they are making reasonable and fair decisions before jumping the gun and "cutting a group off" on a suspicion of possible problems. I have never posted like thus before and I hope I don't have to again. I really can't recommend this pub anymore!!

One of the few places near the Caulfield Campus where you can hang with friends in a restaurant🍴 Frequently dine here when organising farewell dinner as they are able to accommodate large numbers & are never too busy. Plus point, they serve alcohol 🍻 Prices are on the high end and food is just mediocre - never really liked the food 🍔🌯🍕 Pretty crappy honestly but oh wells 🤷🏻‍♀️ Just here for the convenience.

Been here twice on a Tuesday night for the kids entertainment, which is great, however, the food isn’t great. A $35 steak tough as nails, someone ordered the fish with risotto it was average, the service is very minimal no one comes around to clear plates till the end of the night. Shame Because it’s so close.

HORRIBLE FOOD. HORRIBLE SERVICE. OVERPRICED.
Horrible Service. We were served glasses which weren't cleaned properly (lipstick stains). The food was bang average for the money we paid. The Beetroot burger was assembled in a hurried manner and there wasn't any proper spread of the onion jam and cashew cheese. Even the fries that were served with the burger were broken and not fried properly. The mushroom risotto was one of the worst risottos we've ever had.
Food 1/5Service 1/5 Ambience 1/5
OVERALL 1/5
#desipotbelly

They do have a good play area for kids which can get busy.
The food is very much below average unfortunately, my lamb was cold and tasted like it had been cooked prior and kept in the fridge.
Very very expensive too!!
They should really just stick to basic pub food like schnitzels and steak and just try at least to get those right.
I have given it a 2 because the staff were very polite.
This place isn't your usual pub grub. It's a pub with class. This restaurant has been here for years and years that's what I love about it. I ordered the margarita pizza and chicken salad with saganaki added in. The saganaki was terrible I don't know what it was but it tasted cheap and didn't have the right saltiness. Prices are quite high for what it is the quality isn't the best. I was disappointed how you cant get free bread rolls like the Zagames at chaddy.

Want to throw $150 in the bin? Go eat at Zagames Caulfield.
We should have cut our losses when the “shared” tasting plate came out with 4 olives, two smears of dip and some cold, congealed cheese that we paid extra for.
We also had the “shared” seafood platter. There was enough to feed one person and a toddler, so I guess that they get away with that title on a technicality. The seafood that sounded so good on paper was absolutely disgusting. The “house smoked” salmon was dry and had protein leaking from it, the “char-grilled octopus” was basically a cold rubber ball for us to chew on (good for the jaw muscles I suppose), the tuna tartare was clearly prepared hours earlier so was just a pile of cold, grey mush that was so grainy, maybe they forgot to wash away the sand? The muscles were supposedly cooked in champagne but more closely resembled the boogers my 3yo wiped on his pillow in the middle of the night, they tasted of anything but champagne.
I wish I could say the service was Zagames saving grace but nope! The waitress, after asking if we LOVED our meal, said she would pass on our feedback and send a manager over. After a 40 minute wait we had enough and managed to intercept a manager on our way out the door. The pre-pubescent “Supervisor” resembles one of my grade 1 students when they are getting in trouble. After many grunts and eye-rolling we were told we could take some free dessert or just leave”our choice”. No sincere apology, hopes for our return to give them another shot or even “enjoy the rest of your night”.
Now, Zagames is obviously NOT a fine dining restaurant, we chose it in the hopes we could enjoy a decent meal while our three children were occupied by the playground...at least the kids were occupied I suppose, though don’t get me started on the abundance of skill-testers and rides that required gold coins.
Seriously people, don’t waste your time. There are so many places you can take your family that appreciate your business and at least attempt to provide hearty, well-cooked meals.
Daniel
Meals were well presented. Best sweet potato fries I’ve had in a while. The Portuguese Chicken was very tender. Prices were a tad expensive.

Went here as a family of 4 and had a very enjoyable meal. Quiet busy but service was quick and friendly. Didn't have to wait to long for meals. Has an indoor playground for young kids and several Tv's with sport on for my older kids to watch. We all had chicken Parma, chips and salads which was a generous size. The restaurant was clean and neat. A good all family, friendly restaurant. Great deal with the Groupon voucher. Otherwise could be a bit pricy with drinks on top.

Traditional good quality and quantity pub food. A family friendly bistro, so a bit noisy with lots of kids. Staff were friendly and efficient.

Luckily we purchased a Scoopon or else we'll feel even worse for paying the quality of food for the price on the menu. The garlic bread was microwaved so it because stale in 3 mins, the seafood platter's chips were dark and soft and the aioli had no taste; tasted like fat. The only good thing was the tap beers, that's it.

This is the best 'pub' feed we've had in some time. Service was warm, welcoming & efficient. The food was fresh and very tastey. Free face painting for the kids. Will definately be back soon :-)

I first heard of this F&B chain from their radio commercial. With kids in tow, this certainly was a conducive venue to dine and play.

Enjoyed their food here in a fresh, clean, spacious ambience, and comfortable seating. Even the toilets looked immaculate. The play area was small but well thought out and fun for the young. Staff were friendly, approachable and helpful with smiles and service speed was good.

It's a 😊👍🏼 and worth a visit for families with young kids.
The Dear Luncher
The Dear Luncher would dearly like to say this place sucks, because all signs point to it sucking. Your Dear Luncher has a deep aversion towards pokie venues. But it does not suck. Well pokies suck, but the food is of a decent standard and there have now been a total of four family outings to Zagames. There is a place for the Mini Lunchers to wreak havoc, which is really the only reason why this place has been graced with your Dear Luncher's presence.
Choc Pudding
Chicken parmigiana was terrible. I could not believe how anyone can make a bad parma...Their salad was no good either, their aioli sauce was weird. The chicken bbq pizza was okay, but really, I am never going back there.
Brungiel
Expensive and typical pub food... A complete ripoff for what it is if you ask me. Atmosphere is just like any pub, service is just like any pub, food is just like any pub... But because it's in Caulfield they can charge $10 more for a meal!

A wholesome experience with this outlet ! Zagame gives this classic restaurant/bistro experience ! To start off with I was here for friend's birthday and we had a lot on our plate ! With entrées plentiful and mains to couple with ! I don't know where to begin ! Presentation was on par, although I reserve this opinion to myself as its perspective ! Food tasted great and service was a bit let down but it compensated overall to a great experience ! A recommended place ! They have a couple of outlets spread across Melbourne ! Do check them out !

I avoided this place for a good 16 years before returning on the recommendation of a friend. Food is great, drinks are great, decor is new and exciting and it's a very busy place. Such a wonderful selection on the menu and staff are more than happy to accommodate requests. Have been here several times in the last few months!

Food not bad , a bit rowdy but that wasn't unexpected. DON'T ORDER SOMETHING SPECIAL FROM THE BAR THOUGH. I ORDERED A MOJITO AND IT TOOK 15 MINUTES AND ONLY CAME AFTER I CHASED THEM UP TWICE VERY DISAPPOINTING!!!!!!

In terms of keeping the kids entertained it's outstanding. The playground is as good as any Maccas. Unfortunately, the food is average every tine we came here.
Stephen
For the number of people they are capabke of turning over in a searing i think they do a great job! I've definitely had better food at a pub before, but the whole experience of the place is pretty good.

Face painting for the kids was a ripper but 99% chips and 1% fish on a plate for the kida meal probably not.

One major negative.. we had our elderly grandmother with us on a walking frame.. parking is scarce in the area so if you utilize their carpark, there did not appear to be a wheelchair entry at the rear... had to walk around the block to get in (thankfully weather was good)

Notice Me Senpai
Very subpar food.

Parma was overcooked with burnt crumbs, and came with ham, after asking for it not to have ham. Unseasoned, undercooked chips. At least the salad was a salad with a variety of vegetables, and was dressed with a mustard vinegar emulsion. Probably the most enjoyable part of the meal.

Yet again, another pub establishment that stays open for three main reasons: Gambling, alcohol and superior location.

Excellent food and lovely service. We eat here all the time and the food is always lovely. The curries are really good, both lamb and vegetarian, and I love that you get a whole meal with papadums, roti, rice, curry and yogurt. Great value for money . The entree bruschetta and meat balls are very good and the risottos and chicken meals are also great. Definitely recommend keeping your current chef!!

Terrible, teary and tasteless. Have eaten at this venue many times mainly due to the child friendly atmosphere and edible food at vaguely reasonable prices however had one of the most awful meals of our lives last night at Zagames Caulfield that we have had ever. When squeezing the lemon onto the the beer battered fish my fingers went through the thick rind and pith as if it was melted marshmallow. Not sure if the ensuing off taste of the fish was due to this or just a badly bought and cooked bit of fish. The other diner had two bites of the salt and pepper calamari before gagging and giving up. Just an initial salty nothingness with a fairly gross aftertaste. The "salad" on both of our plates tasted recycled. There were many brown bits of lettuce and it tasted and looked as if it had bits from days ago refreshed with a couple of tomatoes and rocket. Will not dine there again.

Good Pub Food. All staff were very welcoming and keen to assist. We were all satisfied with our food selections: lamb curry (had great flavour and a good kick), 2 parmas and a kiev, and 2 seniors meals. These were recommended by the hostess as being more sustantial and a little healthier - some veg and not deep fried - than kids meals. Great advice for 6 & 8yo with healthy appetites.
Easy parking. Kids play zone. We would sit further away from kids zone when grandparents are with us. They found the noise a little too much. But generally, everyone happy.
Liorfan
Mostly good. I had linguine marinara which was fantastic, others had seafood basket for 2 which was a little disappointing for the price, others had caesar salad which was great and huge, and another had the rib eye steak which he asked for rare but was raw and cold in the middle, completely uncooked. Overall the atmosphere was really casual but clean and comfortable, aircon works great and service and staff were excellent. I'd definitely go again!
Kiki
Don't like it. Ordered the prawn linguini and my pasta wasn't cooked enough very hard and the sauce was disgusting. The chips which we ordered for the table were delicious I must say but won't be going back

Excellent Quality Food & Great Value for Seniors. Visited for first time yesterday for lunch & I was impressed, the Seniors meals were of excellent value. On this occasion I chose Penne Carbonara & it was served steaming hot. Service provision couldn't be faulted either therefore I'll definitely be revisiting soon.

Phill Jury (food critic & writer)

Ms P. Curtis. Mothers Day Lunch, very impressed with their delicious food and excellent staff, who were very helpful indeed. We were pleasantly surprised that there was I increase in prices for Mothers Day and all mothers were offered a free lemon tart. My first visit but definitely not my last.

The food quality is terrible. The prices are very high. One of the worst dinning out experiences I have ever had

As I sit here looking at myself in the chair next to me. Yes I am beside myself. I brought the kids for a lunch and playroom experience, decided to grab a porterhouse m/r not expecting anything but a m/w steak. Perfectly cooked when arrived. It might have been luck but I'll take it, I great pub steak.

$10.50 for a pint of Heineken is way too much for a average-ish place
Con Petrou
Expensive and crap. Pub food served in a pub, just more expensive.
Mary Nova
Avoid. Unless you have children, stay clear away from this place! Far too noisy and busy and not a fan of kids play areas at all. It's a convenient way to shut your kids up while you try and enjoy a so-called meal.
It's one of those pubs where all they care about is "bums on seats".
Tanya B
It's a pub with an indoor play ground so you expect the food to be awful. I was pleasantly surprised. The three dishes we ordered were excellent. Salmon, lamb, linguine . I'll be going back
Ridge Road
Not as bad as some make it out to be. Risotto was very salty and greens were overcooked. It was ok for $9.90.

Yuk - and RUDE. Firstly, trying to call this place is terrible. i spoke to a lady who was very rude and hung up on me twice. stupid me called back i wanted to make a booking, she said u can just rock up, so.. thats what we did, when we arrived we weren't greeted, and just told to sit wherever we liked, so we did, then no one came and provided us with menus, the people behind the counter seemed more interested at laughing and story telling between themselves it was about 6pm and they were not at all busy, eventually a tall man came and gave us menus, then walked off, we waited again and waited, and then i had to go up and ask where we order our food. the food came out quickly, they were not busy at all, but the food wasn't anything to brag about. i had a rice dish, and my partner a steak. when i asked about wines and beer the man passed us onto a girl who was really rude and basically didnt want to serve us, every wine i asked about she said i could only have in a bottle, and i wasnt going to drink a bottle so what a waste of money, so we didnt order a drink. then we were going to have dessert but again because this same girl was rude we didn't have dessert. we went to the pokies room later where we were given a coffee each, and i asked the lady in charge to remove a reserved sign that was on a machine for around 30min and she would not said to me 'youll only put a dollar in a go to another one so no' so then we immediately left.

Not Happy!. Not very impressive at all. It was my first time here, against my better judgement my self and my 3 adult children and my husband were very unhappy!. I did not like the food, it was rather stale, the customer service was unimpressive and the staff there very un-inspirational.
I know for a fact that i wont be going there again. The atmosphere is like any bistro, they just want you to spend and buy more, and the food is of no good quality either. The champagne i had was flat, and the glass only half filled, and when i said can you pour me a new glass this is flat the lady said to me "thats how this sparkling is love" - yeiks!!
As i am an elderly lady, and wanted the pensioners meal, they would not provide it to me, because they said i looked too young to be a senior citizen, i was very unimpressed i had to pay double for the same meal, because i wouldnt show id to show im of age.
Chris J
Dissappointed. Dropped in on short notice with the wife and 3 kids, mainly due to good location and their advertised cheap kids meals. We found the service staff sloppy, young and uncaring to their customers, the "Kids World" was very underwhelming. Kids were running all over the bistro as the playground was so small, it doesn't help they locate their skill tester machine next to the toilets and not in the kids entertainment area. Cheap $5 meals was an understatement, the kids ordered the processed disgusting nuggets and the worst margherita pizza I'd ever tasted (tried it when my daughter complained). My $30 steak was undercooked and one of the cheapest cuts I've seen, something I'd expect for $15. Dropping $70 for an uninspiring family meal? No thanks, next time we'll do KFC which is gourmet compared to these meals.

Food was ok for a glorified counter meal. But pretty pricey for what you get. Also full of bogen rough children.

Visitedzagames Boronia mysister booked for mynephewsbirthday what a disaztercake not readyontime they had overbooked parties no apology and didnt care when we complai.Ed for $25 perc
Child you can't do much better elsewhere.

Overpriced and Average. Went there for dinner one night.. drinking Glenfiddich and wanted a fabulous steak. Bought the most expensive one on the menu and asked for it to be well done (can't handle blood in the steak) and what did i get.. a medium rare with lotsa blood! Brought it back and they reheated the same steak! When you pay for a great steak.. you expect a great steak! Very amateur food and not appealing to the customer.
OPERAKAT
No service and They don't care. Caulfield Cup day Lunch, Bistro has Three tables with people at 12.45, No one to seat you although the signs say they will, no Menu on the tables you order Food and Drinks at the bar, Two Porterhouse Steaks and one bottle of Wynns Red $102, Steaks and wine are good although the salad served is a bit of a joke, my complaint is the attitude of staff and owners, for that money I can think of heaps of Restaurants and non gaming pubs that do it far better for the price, its the Newmarket for me next time I feel like a pub meal.
FarmrsMarktsFan
Wish I didn't have to go. In Zagame's favour is location (suits my family), a popular kids' play area (for the young nephews) and toilets for people with disabilities (elderly frail father). So it ticks several boxes for family get togethers. But I wish I didn't have to eat there. The food is quite expensive and very ordinary.

Wont go back. To noisy with the concrete floor, meals were overpriced I thought and tasteless pizza,

Very mediocre food (asian beef salad was way too salty), but ok if you go with young children. And that is NOT chicken breast in the chicken nuggets (menu misleading!) - it was clearly some sort of reformed meat. Won't go back.

Don't ever eat here... There are plenty of cheaper asian places to eat surrounding Zagame's Caulfield. their food is mediocre and overpriced. meh.

If kids==true, then zagames=great. Okay, let's start by saying if I didn't have young kids I'd hate this place. It has what I call wedding food - perfectly edible, but nothing to get exicted about or rejoice in. The wines are just embarrasing. Plus, there's a lot of young children everywhere, and it's a very large, noisy venue.

But - I have young children - so I do like this place. A great kids menu, and perfectly edible adult food. The lack of decent wine doesn't really matter, as it's not like I'm going to drink anything when I'm driving kids. The fantastic playground keeps the kids occupied, so adults can actually converse and enjoy themselves, or read the paper and enjoy themselves, depending on how broken you're feeling.

The kids everywhere & noise factors means you're not shushing the kids, or feeling like you need to apologise to the waitress as she ducks between highchairs and crayons.

All in all, a comfortable night out for parents (partic if you eat at 530/6), and you arrive home actually feeling less stressed and happy for being out.
