Review Men Tei Ramen - Caulfield - Caulfield

If you’re looking for an authentic Japanese food, this is not the one. Everything on the menu was presented in very Chinese style. I ordered spicy Ramen and got egg noodles and Sriracha-like flavored for the spicy soup. Their Katsu curry rice was alright though. Fast service.

Average Chicken Katsu Curry. The chicken was tough to chew. The restaurant is nice and the staff are friendly. Well priced. Thanks.

Value meals! Big portion at affordable prices, lots of seating out the back as well. Staff are nice and friendly!

Freshly made food, fast delivery, reasonable pricing - had the King and it lived up to its name, a real treat. The vege curry was amazing! (Delivery through Menulog. Everything arrived correctly and in time. Will order again!)

Because this restaurant is located so close to church as we meet at Monash Uni, this place has become a go-to for lunch after or dinner before an event. The food is tasty and inexpensive. And there’s such a range.

The beef preparation (Gyu don #18) was just average.. Meat was chewy and I would have loved it if it had been a little softer. The one my 7 year old had was chicken and egg omelette (oyako don, no 17) on rice, which she found a bit bitter.

Japanese food that has been modified or influenced by chinese food flavor. Food was okay, place was quite huge with plenty of seats. We need to pay in advanced for the tasty dish yet in a decent price.

Really great experience. The pork ramen was fantastic. Noodles were nice and chewy and the broth was well balanced. As an extra bonus, this restaurant was very accommodating to food allergy requests, and took extra precautions in separating food when asked even during the busy dinner rush. Baby friendly as well!

Delicious, traditional food & very friendly staff.

Ordered the teriyaki chicken and beef sukiyaki through UberEats. Both came in huge bowls at affordable prices. Tasty but I felt that it was slightly greasy after a few mouthfuls. It was definitely a lot so I usually keep half of it for a separate meal.

Horrible overpriced Japanese food 🍜 Literally disliked the ramen the moment I took my first bite. Probably better off heading to Carnegie or the CBD.

Ordered from uber eats the house special ramen. Often free delivery and very cheap for the quality you get $13. Get it all the time.

Pork Curry Katsu Don: Didn't taste as fresh as I had hoped. The food was decent but lacked the flavour that would make it stand out amongst other curry dishes.

Katsu Don: MY frIENds ArE FAT aND wOn'T LEt me TAsTe tHeiR F00d ...

Takoyaki: The slightest bit too soggy for my taste. Nothing special that I would recommend.

Staff is rude. 0/5
Service is alright not the quickest. 2.5/5
Food is good 👍 3.5/5
I have tasted almost all the dishes on their menu.
The food has their distinct flavour that I would suggest you to try.
Ambience is good. 3.5/5
It isn't as crowded as the one's near by.
Recommended: Katsu don, curry katsu don.
㊙️ The Traveling Foodie
Located near Caulfield station . Quiet due to school holidays. The rice meals looks good and large portion for the fried noodles.

Ordered take away for both signature dish.

Taste 4/5
Price 2/5 pricy
Soup 4/5
Quantity 3/5

Took about 10 min for meal preparation which is quick.

A nice Asian restaurant, located on Derby road near tram station.
Ordered Katsu don (chicken) which is deep fried chicken served with egg and rice along with garnishing of peas n carrot julienne . The chicken and egg were cooked really well.
Quantity of food served is very filling.
I look forward to other options from their menu.
A casual day in Uni, me and my friends were in search of some place which serves Ramen and here we are, at Men Tei Ramen. We goes to Derby Thai quite often and thought of trying something else. I was quite bored with KFC as well.

First thoughts, the place is conveniently located near to Monash University. The EFTPOS minimum is $20, I wish this wasn't the case. Most of the patrons are students and they obviously want to split their bill then and there. The staff are friendly and speaks Mandarin. I loved the decor, the wooden finish on the wall, overhead hanging lights and the best part about the place is the passage which leads to another seating area at the back. This passage is an amazing spot to click some pics.

I ordered Tonkatsu Ramen with deep fried chicken preferably than pork. I liked the fact that they served the deep friend chicken separately rather than dipping in the bowl. The service was quite fast considering the place was almost full. The soup was of average quality. I would give a 3/5. But, the deep fried chicken was something amazing and I will give 4.5/5 for it. My friend suggested me to try the Pork next time since it was much better in taste than chicken. I can't wait to try that out. The crumbs tasted like fried bread and the chicken was melting(trust me) inside the mouth which means it was cooked to perfection. The quantity was more great for single serve and I promise you will walk out with a full paunch.

Reasonably priced. Decent Japanese dishes. We found the Karage chicken tasting more like Taiwanese fried chicken but we don’t mind either. A fair bit of msg probably because I was constantly thirsty after the meal.

Came here after class with a group of friends, was told to order at the front which we did. The manager started going crazy stating we had to pay first before we sat back down. This was not communicated at all and there’s no signs mentioning this. Confronted her about this afterwards, she rubbed it off as a ‘misunderstanding’. Poor experience with the teriyaki beef don meat wasn’t cooked properly with a price of $12. Don’t recommend.

Ramen is pretty decent , fast service but I found some special discount which is only obvious for non English speakers and I felt left out. Not cool at all. I will probably return because I have no other Japanese option Close to uni.

Delicious cheap ramen. Try the chicken katsu ramen, you won’t be disappointed. Mind you the broth in both ramens my partner and I ordered were very tasty and slurplicious. Service was friendly. Food was a definite worth it.

Soup and katsu sauce had an odd flavour. Staff were friendly hand helpful, happy to change the noodles in my meal. Rice was a little hard, but the service was quick.

Actually really enjoyed my experience here. Had teriyaki beef and it tasted really nice and was freshly cooked. The staff were really friendly and atmosphere was great. Sat outside and it was super cute and pretty little place. Pretty cheap too, $11 for lunch!
Taeyeon's Hamster
A new Japanese eatery found located near Monash University Caulfield Campus. Men Tei Ramen consists of not just a variety of ramen but also has donbori rice dons and appetisers. Although it may not be authentic Japanese but more Chinese-Japanese specialised, the portion of the food for fairly reasonable. The curry katsu don was overall nice and chicken was fried fairly well, but the curry could be a tad spicer. Overall a nice and fast service at Men Tei Ramen.

Worst ramen place ever. The food there do not even taste like Japanese food. More like chinese food. Ordered a ramen and they only gave a patheic tiny slice of chasiew. Service was rude and slow too. Especially the lady boss. Acting like a diva

avoid at all costs

Ordered 8 dishes and only 3 were served. When asked about the other dishes the workers were clueless about the order and kept delivering wrong dishes to the table
When asked at manager apparently the kitchen had forgot to cook it

They took no action to compensate for the situation
Complete time waster and poor management poor service
Have been a few times, both done in and take away. My favorite is their Gyn Tan Don. Other dishes are very nice as well.
Friendly staff and nice service. Food is served quickly.

Been here a few times to try different dishes but very disappointed each time. The dishes are not authentic despite having Japanese titles. They're more like Chinese-Japanese fusion dishes. The tonkatsu ramen noodle broth was fatty and lacked the pork bone flavour and toppings were not the typical one you find at a ramen place. In my yakisoba and they used udon noodles (wrong type of noodles) and the dish had peas and mushrooms for some odd reason and no meat. Ordered oyako don - peas, carrot and mushrooms were again (strangely) part of this dish. Might be good if you like Chinese food but not if you are looking for proper Japanese food. Service is okay but the food isn't okay for me.
I much prefer going to Restore Cafe a few shops away where they serve real delicious authentic Japanese food.

Really friendly, warm service. Quite a few vegetarian options - golden curry definitely a favourite. Eftpos minimum $20 and a feee miso or soft drink with every meal. Can't go wrong!

A small Ramen place in Caulfield, simply appointed with fast and friendly service. A simple menu means you are served quite quickly.

Ramen noodles were perfectly cooked, with a nice chew. Lovely egg, just right for me. Nice broth, but sadly just not enough meat and the bowl was rather small for the money.

You do get a free drink with that, so the value is not so bad, but I would rather a larger serve, which is always the case when I change up from Chinese noodle cuisine to Japanese. You end up with serve at least a third smaller for a price a third more, so today I was still hungry. I should have ordered some Edamame.

Overall, a nice little place with good food once you overcome the portion size.

Worth a visit.
Omelette
Overall good deal for mains, every main comes with complementary free drinks or miso soup, price is decent. However, sides were a bit pricey, given that the portion was tiny for sides.

Beside the front counter leads a path of alleyway to the backyard, of which I personally think it's much more comfortable dinning area than the indoor seatings.

An alright Ramen place nearby Monash University. Good if you don't have much time for your break and you just wanna eat quick and be full. We ordered the Spicy Ramen and it tasted okayy, just a tad salty but I haven't been to one that aren't salty so I supposed it's just their thing...

Another Japanese addition to the area surrounding Monash University. Not sure on authenticity, but I liked the ramen to an extent.
The noodles were bit chewy, and the pork was ok.

Very impressed with this restaurant considering it's competing in the uni student market where food are super cheap but lacking in quality. Hmmm those were the dining on a dime days.

Decor at the front is Japanese inspired with all the necessary power warriors. We spotted an almost fantasy like narrow walk path which lead to a gorgeous European/Japanese inspired courtyard. It is surrounded with polished dark bamboos but gave the impression that we are outside via the see through rooftops. The outside world was further amplified by the sounds of pigeons footsteps and chirping.

We had the Tonkatsu Ramen and Gyoza Ramen. Orders are taken at the counter and cards are accepted for orders $20 and above. I reckon the "No union pay" on the sign meant they don't accept credit union cards rather than a cry for penalty rates. (Disclaimer: am not in any way conveying that the staffs here are underpaid).

Both of our broth have this thick pork like scent, growing up with pork in our dietary this was something we are accustomed to. Ramen itself was springy and flavorful. Pork Tonkatsu was freshly fried and didn't taste like it was left overnight. Loving the crumb to meat ratio. Gyoza dumpling is delicious as well. The broth left us slightly thirsty but overall quite an enjoyable meal.

The bill came up to about $25 which is a small premium considering the quality, service and ambiance of this joint. l can't stop admiring the cutlery holder which looked like joinery polished light wood, a nice connection to Japanese craftsmanship.

Better find other places!!
The broth is so plain, the noodle has weird texture. We ordered ranen with pork and chicken katsu. The only thing that comes good is the chicken katsu.
Not worth the money.
The only accept Cash!!!

I ordered the spicy ramen, and I only got 2 strips of pork and tonnes of noodles. The flavour of the broth was weak. My partner ordered the beef ramen and thought it was standard. The entry tofu agedash was pretty good.
