Had a great dinner with the family at this restaurant. The attendant infront immediately informed us the wait for the sushi train would take a while and suggested for us to take a table. Best decision ever. He gave us a nice table at the end of the room. Like our own private area. The waiters were very polite and attentive. Service was very quick and all dishes were delicious. Definitely going back and recommending to others. 👍

Went there during my husbands birthday & came back yesterday that time with good friends. We enjoyed every single serve of ala carte,had fun & had good conversations as place was quiet comfy. Staff are always been friendly & polite. Will definitely come back some other time again.

Ive been here three times. I think their aburi sushi and sashimi is amazing! They really use top quality ingredients. Im just not impressed by the staff on my last visit. They said it was the last order and barely gave me time to decide. They also gave no soy sauce and it took ages for them to bring it. They just seemed rushed and disinterested close to closing time.

Every once in a while the team at WhatEpiEats gets invited to something special, and when our invite reads “Tuna Cutting Show” you know it’s going to be something to look forward to. Located in the midst of the Chadstone shopping capital, Marae Izakaya stands out with its modern and luxurious sushi train restaurant.
The meal is very satisfying and I am not a sushi person. I am in love with the flavour and plating as well as the friendly service. The price is reasonable. However, the dessert option is very limited only mochi and ice cream and there is no chawamushi available which is a little disappointing but overall it's still a recommended place to visit.

I'd come back just for these if i had to 😉 really good crisp panko layer 🍤 that had so much texture containing delicious oysters served with a terrific salty sweet sauce 😍 reasonable price overall however some dishes were too high for their small size 💰 if youre feeling something fresh and light while youre at chaddy then theyre your go-to japanese sushi train! 😎

One of the most exquisite Japanese restaurants I’ve been to. With the concept to order what you see for it to be delivered to your table or to chose to eat from the sushi train itself. With quality of this venue is second to none and with such affordable price points in an amazing location. It is surely one not to be missed
Another great place for lunch or dinner at Chadstone - Maree Izakaya. Where they’re serving up traditional and delicious Japanese dishes at really affordable prices! I really enjoyed the Marie bento box which allows you to try a little bit of everything without over ordering :) I highly recommend it and also the teriyaki beef!
Perfect location and meal for all of you who loves to wander around Chadstone! We are frequent Chadstone visitors, so we definitely love having this there!
They have a wide range of Japanese dishes from sushi, sashimi, karaages, tatakis, everything! You name it!
We were particularly blown away with their signature kaiseki bento, which has 9 different small portioned dishes that you can try - absolutely delicious and a perfect way for you to get a variety of flavours!

We were invited to Marae Izakaya on the weekend which was insanely busy. People were lining up for the sushi train which I believe is one of two inside the Chadstone complex. Bring located in the dining precinct nearby the cinema it is the more prestigious of the two and naturally more expensive. You can also order larger sized more premium dishes.
I found it a little overpriced for what it was albeit flavoursome. I really enjoyed the teriyaki chicken and the freshness of the sashimi. There was also a decent amount of variety but the panko crumbed prawn dish with fresh salmon and mint sauce didn’t quite work. The bento is really pretty and a good option if you want to try a wide variety
Amazing place! Love the atmosphere in the restaurant. I visited for lunch with a friend and had a great experience. We tried an assortment of sushi, sashimi and drinks. The tuna tataki was very well made. Another highlight was the unagi sushi which tasted amazing and very well cooked. Lastly the assortment of drinks were very nice. We tried the mocktails, which were very nice and refreshing. Personally the Shiso Mocktail was my favourite, an exotic Japanese classic red herb mocktail.
Highly recommend this place and can’t wait to go back! Thanks for having us!

I visited this lovely restaurant on Saturday afternoon with my mum. We were treated to some absolutely delicious dishes all of which were presented beautifully came out quickly and tasted amazing. I ordered the crispy tofu plate which was absolutely incredible, the grilled salmon which came out smoked on a bamboo leaf and was full of flavour, the vegetable gyoza & the melon mochi dessert. All of which exceeded my expectations and were absolutely delicious. My mum ordered the beef, with the grilled salmon combination (she’s still raving about how incredible that was) & the teriyaki salmon. All in all the food was absolutely incredible, the staff were lovely and attentive the location is ideal for people wanting to shop as its inside the dining precinct of chadstone. The only thing I’d say is on busier days allow plenty of time for parking as we spent over 40 minutes looking for a park!
Highly recommend and can’t wait to go back again, this time for the sushi train portion! Thanks for having us!
Stopped here for a quick bite with the family and we're so glad we did. Everone ordered the $8 Udon accompanied by 3 dishs each from the sushi train. All the meals came out fast, we're super fresh and very tasty.
The sushi train is AMAZING! So delicious and fresh! Highly recommend the sushi train and the special dishes with salmon caviar and mayo! The ambience is amazing too!
Marae Signature Kaiseki Bento is so incredibly gorgeous 😍! Seeing it float around on the gram I knew I had to have it! With all their most popular dishes in bite form I don’t know what else you want. Perfectly located in Chadstone shopping centre it was a great meal in between my shopping trip 🛍
Beautiful Japanese cuisine and dishes- nice modern eatery and table ordering is done by tablet for speedy (and great) service. Absolutely in love with the tuna and avocado tartare and the Kaiseki bento box but all the dishes were fresh and tasty! This Japanese restaurant was very well presented. I found the staff very efficient. The food here is pretty good and the prices were fair. I love this design of the nine by nine dish. Can’t remember the name, however it was worth ordering.
Food was quite delicious and quite interesting. A bit pricey for what it is however, it’s defiantly a place worth trying if budget is not your thing
Love this bento set!!! Drinks are tasty as wellllll. Sushi train are at average as CBD. But i will always go back for this bento. Reasonable price.

Decided to head here for dinner. Great place, your classic sushi train, food was delicious but I feel they could have added a few more dishes to it. Price wise the premium plates are $8 each. Staff is extremely friendly although they forgot to bring out our drink at one point but overall pretty good place. Worth a try if your around.
Having been to this sushi train for more than 10 times, I think they are doing the best ever recently. To compare with the other sushi train J at the food court downstairs, here is more kids friendly, family friendly, higher food quality, more varieties and spacious.
I like the traditional Japanese teamwork by having clear and polite interactions between the staff and the chefs and the warm welcoming greetings - Irasshaimase!!
The deep fried oyster is very nice, must try when they are hot, freshly made. The front desk manager is a nice and friendly guy, other staff are helpful and courtesy. The only thing disappointing is the udon soup, the potion is getting smaller that even couldn’t fill up my 2years old daughter, LOL!

I wanted to come to Marae Izakaya at Chadstone because I remembered seeing their signature Marae Kaiseki Bento box on the display outside the restaurant a few months ago and wanted to try it for so long! There was a queue waiting for a table and the wait wasn’t too long. After about 10 min, we got to the front of the queue. We were asked whether to sit by the sushi train or ala carte table. Not knowing we can’t order the bento box from the sushi train table, I said either way is fine!! Only when we were seated at the sushi train then I realised I can’t order the bento box so had move table. Luckily there was a table ready on 2 min! The Kaiseki Bento was a set of 9 bite size dishes and they are scrumptious ! The main highlights were wagyu beef tataki, scampi sashimi and the good tuna truffle tower! This a premium selection
and for $39 per bento box is quite reasonable. We also added tempura udon and 2 hot green tea. The udon was light and delicate too and nice to separate the tempura prawn so it didn’t get soggy but adding into the soup. Customer service was excellent and we will definitely return to try the sushi train next time!
We were very happy with our dining experience today. It wasn’t busy being that is was a Thursday afternoon. Everyone will get asked if they would like to sit at a table or next to the sushi train. We opted for the latter. All the food tastes amazing, top quality! Our favourite (we ordered it twice) was the ‘spicy salmon skewer’. We also had the gyoza but honestly, it wasn’t as good because it was cold. It should be a plate that gets ordered rather than sitting on the conveyor belt. Service is efficient... you just need to make eye contact with the wait staff who stand in the middle watching and waiting to assist customers. NOTE: No surcharge if you pay by cheque or savings.
Went here for lunch with 4 people. We didn’t order much (10 standard, 2 premium). The premium dishes were expensive (IMO) , 2 pork skewers or small plate of sashimi for $8 each so we filled up on the standard plates instead.
For a Tuesday, they opened at 12pm and were busy busy busy! I can see why. The fish was fresh and the ginger was too. The tofu (with accompanying sauce) was so soft and fluffy. Presentation was stunning as well, sushi rolls weren’t falling apart with every bite.
My stand out favourite was the prawn nigiri 🦐🍣🦐🍣

Best sushi in Chaddy! I’ve been here both for the al a cart menu and sushi train; both are excellent! The staff are friendly and attentive. At the sushi train there’s 2 plate price points; colour plates for $4.5 and fancier plates for $8. For the a la cart options there is a tablet to order off and the food comes out quickly. The food is fresh and delicious. Try to go off peak if you can, is really popular and there’s generally a line
Along with the expansion of Chadstone shopping centre almost 2 years ago came the addition of the Dining Terrace, an area which houses many big names in dining, such as Fonda Mexican, New Shanghai and Burger Project, as well as Marae Izakaya. Marae Izakaya is a Japanese style restaurant which boasts a diverse range of dining styles, from bentos, to al a carte dishes, as well as an impressive omakase sushi train.
Stumbled passed this place, because the bento box caught my eye. Not only did this look pretty and you get to have the fun of “what to eat first?”, but tastes good as well. Ordered seaweed as well. My partner and I were both adequately full. This bento box plus miso soup for $38, is in my opinion good value. My favourite would have been the Unagi, least is the scampi sushi(maybe I don’t have the acquired taste). After reading other reviews, I’m glad I chose the bento rather than the sushi train (not often would I travel far to Chadstone) 😊
Food: Everything in the Signature Bento was fresh and yummy. The mini udon wasn’t really mini and was really tasty. The green tea ice cream was too frozen and I think the toppings are more for aesthetic purposes than taste.
Service: We were supposed to order with the iPad on the table but it wasn’t working so we just ordered with a waiter who was patient and friendly. As it was quite busy, it was a bit hard to get someone’s attention for the bill at the end of the meal.
Ambience: We got a table by the window which was nice. The restaurant is well lit but can get a bit noisy when it’s busy.
I am always happy when I go to a sushi train as long as the quality is good, Marae Izakaya is no exception. I enjoy the traditional nigiri sushi along with the interesting western style ones like the seared salmon and cheese- always a favourite! The taste is clean and the fish isn’t tough or bad tasting.
I enjoyed the variety of hot and cold dishes on the train, I tried the pork yakitori with cheese sauce and it was delicious.
A very nice place to visit if your in the mood for good quality sushi.
One of the best Sushi cuisines in Melbourne, “izakaya” is not a name good enough for the delicious food they have in here. Tuna Cheese(sushi)is the most amazing one, a must try!
Decided to give this place a shot even though the sushi train appeared to be underwhelming and the bentos were actually such a redeeming feature! 🍱 This fun packed 9 part bento comes with scampi sashimi, tuna avo tower, salmon sashimi 🍣, spicy prawn🦐 & noodles, fried oyster, wagyu beef, grilled eel & karaage chicken 🐔 & an avo vege roll 🥑! Each of these elements were bite sized and though seemingly tiny, they really fill you up! 😋 This $38 set also comes with a mini bowl of udon & miso soup which was ordinary to say the least. It was the elements of the bento that were the stars of the meal. My personal favourite was the scampi sashimi! It was extremely fresh & sweet 💦! The presentation was amazing, it truly looked too good to be eaten and there were even tiny gold flakes on the tuna tower ✨ (insta worthy!) This set is really bang for the buck in my opinion. 🤑

When Marae Izakaya first opened in Chadstone, for the first 2 months, we ate here once or twice a week, the food was great and the staff were so lovely. We got to know them as if they were our friends. Being completely honest, over time the food quality did go down, but we still came here to eat because of the great relationship we had with one manager, BK. Every time we came, he'd have a huge smile and welcome us back with open arms. We actually got to know him which is really hard to come by in this business. When he left to Brisbane, we stopped going. The manager (the guy who wears too much makeup) who replaced BK was terrible. He didn't care about customer experience, he was too direct and only cared about getting people in and out as quickly as possible, he is too much like a robot.
When we saw that BK came back, we started dining here every week again.
I can see they are trying to be inventive with their new dishes and the quality of food has gone up.
Which is why I was sad to hear BK is going back up to Brisbane again.
Marae Izakaya needs someone like BK, someone who cares about the business and the customers.
So glad we were able to dine in on your last day BK! You will be missed!
A fancy sushi train in the newer end of Chadstone mall. There was a wait to get on the train. there's two price points as opposed to the five price points of traditional trains which means you have to be strategic. on the pricier end, the quality is good and service is great. interior design is modern and clean.

I've come here twice now. Once for their dine-in menu and once for their sushi train.
Dine-in menu: we had the signature bento box, wagyu zucchini skewers, mini udon, teriyaki chicken, a range of sashimi, mochi and ice-cream. All quite pleasant and beautifully arranged. Pricey though and not something I'd do again.
Sushi train: we sat at a table and went to the designated collection area (at one of the ends of the train) and brought back dishes. There were trays nearby to aid this process. It was frustrating as many people were also waiting to collect dishes and it felt like you had to jump in to get a popular dish. They need more collection points. Food wise I thought it was fresh and flavoursome. They probably need more variety with their sushi hand rolls because after a while they all tasted the same. Between the two of us, we polished off 16 dishes and had drinks for about $84.
Must try: tiramisu mochi balls (oh so good).
Service was ok but you needed to flail about to catch the attention of a passing server. First time we came here we weren't told that we could grab dishes from the train so we ended up only ordering from the dinner menu.
My first sushi train experience. Was great, the whole family really enjoyed the experience. Loved the Bento box with a about 12 different offerings. Will definitely go back again.
Had dinner here with a friend who was craving Japanese and actually had a pleasant time here despite all the negative reviews of the place. The waiter who was assigned to us gave pretty solid recommendations, for me I really loved the sake recommendation and my friend loved how he told us the order of the food that we should try first in the set of 9.
Luckily, we got the special table inside for 5 people, i have a great time with my family after shopping:) The oyster is fresh and special:) love it:)

Must try restaurant in Chadstone Shopping mall. There sushi is always fresh, good presentation and have a lot of variety. Our family favourite is Grilled King Salmon, Prawn tempura, Fried Oyster, Crispy Prawn, Vegetable Tempura Udon and Gyoza.
