One of the best authentic Korean restaurants in the burbs. Nene ain't got nothing on Suga's Korean fried chicken. Friendly staff, awesome food. You might wanna book though, place is tiny and fills up fast.
Highly recommended! Great quality food at a great price!
Our favorite go-to for Korean food! Tried diff places but Suga is still the best!
Yummy Korean food! I'm vegetarian and they cook my food perfectly! Absolutely amazing would bring more friends here for sure! Thank you Suga!
Very authentic Korean restaurant! Love the stew, will come back again and again lol
I love it here so much especially their cute teas and Tofu vegetables !!! I'm going to make it a yearly tradition to visit !
Awesome Korean food, very friendly service. My new to go Korean restaurant.
Really good food! Very authentic! My sister and I tried this place out and ordered an army stew and also a soup with hand cut noodle with Mandu dumplings. Both were so flavourful and very tasty! Ordered way more than we could finish tho. Might be good to stick to one dish next time (esp if bigger portion like army stew). Met the owner lady (forgot her name) who was very friendly and spent time talking with us when we complemented the food. She said that she makes her own tofu and all the broths. Definitely authentic tasting just like I’ve had in Seoul (when on holiday)and not overly sweetened like many restaurants. Such a good find for the suburbs! The photos were taken after we had already started to dig into the food, so not the best look, but it did look good when it was served!
My korean friend took me here to try this as she believes it’s really authentic home style korean food. I tried the soondae sausage which was really interesting. It was a nice chewy sort of texture. I haven’t seen it before in other korean restaurants. We also had other dishes that were all tasty and the home made tofu is awesome. Good little restaurant with decent parking out the front. Recommend for a good korean meal.
Fabulous food, authentic, affordable local restaurant. The owner was very friendly. She told us about different types of kimchi and how some of their food is home made. She even gave us extra complimentary side dishes. Everyone loved their food. It was a very relaxed and enjoyable experience. Thank you.
This is real Korean food fullstop no doubt about it. Highly recommend this place if wanting authentic Korean food! Great decor and variety of frsh side dishes, again what I love abiut Korean food
Really enjoyed the authentic Korean atmosphere and food. Tables and cutlery were clean. Side dishes were generous and varied. My tofu soup with seafood was delicious and am told the army stew was authentic and delicious too. Will be back!
Really authentic family owned korean restaurant. Definitely does a 10/10 chicken ginseng soup. I think that's about the only thing I'd recommend on their menu for now... Everything else is good but a but sub par compared to the soup.
Love the decoration, the ambience, the atmosphere. The food is absolutely amazing, price is standard (similar to most places). The taste and flavour is spot on and I love how many dishes come with a bowl of rice on the side. The service is good, might be better if more staff were fluent in English, but I really didn't mind. But I love how Korean everything is and feels, like I'm in a kdrama or smth. The place is also super convenient, next to Jordanville train station. Lots of thumbs up 🙌
I really enjoyed my meal at Suga. The service is slightly behind the 8 ball, they gave us water and 2 glasses for 3 people, 2 bowls for 3 people that kinda thing, but their seafood pancake was so amazing! The seafood was fresh, the octopus on it was oh so tender and the pancake was crispy on the outside and fluffy and soft on the inside.
My fish roe stone pot rice was really delicious as well, my kids loved every single bite. The only thing is that the kitchen was a bit slow and they ran out of dumplings when we went there. Other than that, great meal!
A hidden gem near Jordanville station. This place is one of the best Korean restaurants around the area and has the most variety of dishes. My top 2 dishes would be the tofu mushroom and the tteokbokki skewer (rice cakes). The price might be on the higher range, but portions are generous - definitely worth paying for!
Amazing korean food, I loved how much variety it was when it came to the menu and banchan. I rate it a 4.5!
Food: We ordered the pork belly kongbul and corn cheese. The corn cheese was very stringy and nice, good value for money. What I loved the most was the variety of banchan we were given. I loved the soy beans, fried ttokbokki and potatos.
Kongbul was very nice, its something you wouldn't find regularly at Korean resturants in Melbourne - good to try something new. There was a good balance between meat and vegetables, and the flavour tied well with the dish. It coud have used with a tad more gochujang, bit less water. Overall, very impressive and nice meal!
Service / Ambience: Waiters were very attentive to our needs, helped us cook kongbul and refill our banchan regularly even when it was very busy. I loved the family vibe and also the homemade tofu they make!
fine dining korean restaurant at a small place, which is easy to find a parking. The taste of food is actually better than those at glen waverley.
In a short span of just 1 month, I have already been back to this restaurant twice, after a fantastic first impression this place had left on me.
It’s a casual Korean restaurant with a fusion twists and everything about this place was superb! To share between a group of 4, my friends and I ordered the corn cheese and Ddok skewers for starters, kimchi pancake, bugolgi roti and japchae. The highlight dish of the night had to be the beef Bugolgi Roti, which came in a set of 4. The roti is pan fried until crispy, and wrapped inside are juicy strips of marinated beef bulgolgi with vegetables. We couldn’t have demolished it any faster, and even wanted seconds after! All the other dishes we ordered were of great quality and all had flavours exploding off the plate.
Overall we had an enjoyable night here. You can count on me coming back a 3rd time to try some other interesting fusion dishes like the bibimbap waffle!
Came here for lunch today!
Unfortunately did you take any photos :((
We ordered the lunch set with:
- beef bulgogi
-pork bulgogi
Both equally delicious! No faults with their lunch sets, super yummy and the portion has a lot of meat in it.
We also ordered the Korean SOONDAE soup
When I went to Korea, I fondly remember eating something similar and after seeing it in the menu I wanted to try it again. The broth was hot and refreshing however, the korean sausage lacked a bit of “meaty” flavour and the soup didn’t have much in it except some pork pieces and onions. Besides that, faultless!!
Would definitely come back here for their friendly staff and large range on the menu !!
3.5🌟
I went to restaurant lsat night for dinner 🥘 with my friends..The seafood was yummy 😋!the pork soup was so so ... I like to testa strong soup ...
But the way I like to eat Korean Kimchi a lot .. the kimchi not 🌶 spicy and sweet.. 😂
Probably the best Korean food I’ve had in Melbourne. As a regular customer, my top picks are the kimchi pancake, steamed egg and army stew. Many people suggest going to Dont tell mama shh in Doncaster for the army stew but this one is miles better. The owner is also very nice and gives excellent service!
Happened to work around the area one night and probably made one of the best food decisions in Melbourne. Amazing food . Definitely my go to Korean from now on
Chicken was tasty if perhaps a little bit oily. Side dishes had 7 different choices and were tasty including the kim chi that gave a bit lovely tangy. Rice cake was a nice soupy flavoursome dish. We found the portion size just right - So we did not have to end up overeating. Thanks! :)
Bottom line: Yes will definitely go back to try other dishes (which are a lot of choices!)
Had such a delicious meal at this Korean restaurant. All the classic dishes were cooked very nicely and I really liked the cool Bibimbap sandwich as it was something that I had never tried before ! Fried chicken was so good as well
No fuss neighborhood Korean restaurant that offers some of the yummiest, heartiest stews and soups.
Don’t forget to takeaway their homemade tofu. It’s really yummy if you like firm tofu.
As a non meat eater, I'm a great lover of tofu and this place has the best textured, most fresh-tasting tofu around! I love ordering the block tofu as well as seasonal rice cakes, just as much as dining in at the restaurant. Staff are always friendly and I recommend Suga for anyone searching for a warm, simple Korean meal in this vicinity!
One of the best Korean pancakes I have eaten! This place doesn’t look spectacular from the outside, and certainly the deco wasn’t that flashy either. However, the restaurant serves a reasonable variety of dishes on their menu. From hotpot to Korean barbecue. Plenty of authentic Korean dishes! Definitely will come back again to explore other dishes on the menu!
Everything I’ve tried so far is just delicious. Their tteokbokki, rabokki, fried rice, jokbal, soondae, etc. Their fried chicken was alright though. The sauce was great. The touch of sprinkled peanuts added a nice texture but the chicken itself was rather dry.
Points for: authentic dishes, homemade tofu
Dine Time: weekday dinner
Suga offers a lot of traditional and authentic dishes not often found at many Korean restaurants, like Agu JJim (monkfish with beansprouts - recommended to order in advance), soondae (blood sausage), kongbiji pajeon (tofu pancake), biji jjigae (pork & ground tofu stew), and dakgalbi.
One thing you have to try is one of their homemade tofu dishes. The tofu is so soft and delicate and has another level of flavour compared to commercial ones.
There's minimal ventilation, so when others are having casserole, or a sizzling plate it can get smelly, but it's a minor point. The food is really good, and the restaurant is frequented by many Koreans, it's a gem in the middle of nowhere!
LIT!: the beef dish was soo good. Nice and hot and went well with the iced coffee. This was also the first rice cake that I really enjoyed, it was slightly crunchy and mounted with enough juicy sauce!
NOT SO LIT: sorry bimibap. I didn't really enjoy the jasmine rice as much as normal white rice and it wasn't packed with flavour either. The bimibap also was warm whilst the beef dish was sizzling.
But still delicious for its price x
Great food! Even better service and really good value for money. We went for the lunch menu and everything was really affordable. It seems very authentic and we can't wait to come back to try some more dishes!
My Korean friend told me about this local restaurant. There were many Korean customers in this place which means Suga provides original Korean food.
I had slow cooked pork soup which was nice for eating on a cold day. It came with many kind of small side dishes. Beef with ricecake was slightly salty, so will go well with rice. They provide a satisfactory amount of food with short waiting time. I am happy to meet this restaurant.
I come here if I want authentic Korean. None of the dishes you can go wrong here. You know it's good Korean when groups of Koreans are there almost every dinner. Half the menu you can't even get anywhere else in Melbourne.
I love the spicy soft tofu stew at this place! It's got the right amount of ingredients and flavour. Friendly staff and reasonable price. Highly recommended!!
A local favourite on an unassuming every day kinda street but here lies an authentic Korean offering. I always bring friends to Suga if we're hankering to satisfy a Korean cuisine craving in the vicinity! Love everything about this place from food, decor, service and ample parking round the corner where the train commuters park. Food is always good and it's one of my places to go to for corn cheese, fried chicken and Korean comfort food - especially the soups on a cold winter's day. Great value for money as their portions are generous, the quality outstanding, the variety amazing and the taste totally delicious and very flavoursome. Spacious enough for mums with prams too. Best to book as it does get very busy.
To sum up the restaurant, I am quite happy with the food quality in compared with their reasonable price. While as some of the dishes which I really like about this place is the home made tofu, pork hogs, bibim bap, and Korean barbeque.
I will definitely suggest people to go there atleast once and give them a chance, you won't be disappointed.
I love this small korean place. It can get busy during peek times and because it is a relatively small place expect to wait or book before hand. Been coming here for years and staff are always friendly. They do a really good seafood pancake! Also they have a good selection of side dishes!
Friends and I love coming here for dinner. Staff are friendly and professional, food never fails to please! Note that it can get a bit busy sometimes leading to some queuing up.
DAMMIT JANET I LOVE FOOD
+4
You will find a huge range of traditional and contemporary Korean dishes at Suga, many of which I have not seen served anywhere else. The must try item however is their delicious home-made tofu which is prepared daily on site! Staff were friendly but service was slow. I just have to make sure that I’m hungry but not ravenously hungry the next time I come here.
Delicious food! We ordered from the take-away menu: Fried Pork Dumplings, Chicken Bulgogi and Beef Korean Fried Rice. Food was tasty and enough for 2 of us. Service was great too; ordered over the phone with lovely lady who was helpful. Order was ready in 20 minutes. Great local and we will be back for sure.
Beautiful Korean food in an unassuming location next to the train station. Delicious and tasty and well-priced. The only fault I could find was that the original fried chicken was a bit dry. The "spicy" sauce wasn't spicy at all but oh so delicious. Absolutely loved the japchae and the rice cake in spicy broth (forgot the Korean name). The food also came really quickly and I loved the huge variety that the menu offered.
This is authentic Korean at its best!! I'm so happy to have stumbled across this melb gem that serves true Korean food as though I was eating in a cafe in busan. Great quality of dishes, with a lot of choices unavailable in other restaurants. Trust me, this place is worth a try!!! Just remember to book as it gets busy
Suga is becoming a regular destination for my dinner night out when I crave warm and hearty food. The food is amazing and their fried chicken is to die for - a lot better than Gami in my opinion. Would highly recommend Suga to people wanting to try authentic Korean cuisine. Both food and service are impeccable!
Our family are regulars here and I find it difficult to speak highly enough about it.
Overall, Suga offers a large range of delicious, authentic and healthy Korean food. Their dishes are consistently well cooked, and prepared from fresh and house made ingredients such as kimchi and tofu made on the premises. The restaurant is both a warm and friendly dine-in as well as an excellent takeaway option.
Menu highlights include crispy fried chicken, excellent with either a bath of spicy-sweet sauce or "original recipe" sprinkled with a salty seasoning mix, japchae, a slippery sweet potato noodle that is a delicious (and healthy) accompaniment to rich dishes such as the wonderful jayook, in which pork fillet is stir fried with vegetables in Korean chilli paste. The usual Korean pancakes are on offer, all cooked beautifully crisply with fresh ingredients and tangy sauces. Standard dishes such as bulgogi are not only very good, but also come in a variety of presentations from a fried rice version to a family-style casserole. For the more adventurous there is soondae, a Korean black sausage, and pork trotters, both offered in a variety of dishes.
There are tasty and delicious desserts to finish, including tofu doughnuts.
The menu changes frequently, so don't be too disappointed if one favourite is gone. It will soon be replaced by another.
Initially this restaurant seemed to struggle with its own success. Diners faced long wait times and struggled to get the attention of waiting staff who were well intentioned but stretched too thin. More recently, however, we have found the service to be good even during busy times and the food comes out quickly.
In the south-eastern suburbs there is a huge array of cheap and cheery Asian restaurants. But the food is often mediocre to match the price. At Suga, the food is cooked and served with heart and soul, and the restaurant stands out as a gem.
Best Korean restaurant in the east. Been a regular for a while. Staff are friendly, food is fresh and I love their side dish selections. Highly recommended!
I love how we are lucky to have a local restaurant serving authentic korean food, the flavours very similar to that of food in korea from my trip last year. What a delight that i can stroll down the road to have awesome kicking flavours without needing to go to korea again to experience original/non westernised flavours
I have been here a few times quite recently as I just moved into the area - it seems to be very authentic Korean food - love this place a lot!
SUGA Korean is my closest takeaway, so I regularly drop in to pick something up. The staff are friendly and accommodating. Am always looking forward to their spicy pork Bulgogi. Have taken away for friends and parents and so far they've not let me down.
Being Korean myself, I highly recommend Suga for foodies who want to try authentic Korean dishes. The flavour and atmosphere really reminds me food I've eaten in Seoul - will definitely be back soon!
Suga is a great restaurant for casual dining with family and friends. I've been there multiple times over the past few months and all my friends have loved it here. I highly recommend the 'Kongbul' and Korean Fried Chicken.
As a regular diner at Suga, I can definitely recommend this Korean restaurant. Located near Jordanville station, it is located in amongst a small number of businesses. With a retro type ambience to its decor, this restaurant features a growing number of dishes on its menu, from stews to BBQ meat, sweet to savory. It can get very busy especially during peak times so if you want to ensure a place, make sure to book. Recommend the fried chicken & Korean blood sausage guk bab. Definitely two thumbs up from me.
Very decent portions, authentic, great fast and friendly service! Food is very tasty with very generous servings of side dishes. Nice atmosphere to it as well, located in a very easy to find spot with ample parking! Very convenient. Definitely highly recommended!! Without a doubt, returning to this place when I next want my korean fix!!
Just discovered Suga, and was very impressed by the authentic food and friendly service. With a large offering of lunch specials, complimentary banchan and a comfortable spacious restaurant, I will definitely return!
All freshly prepared ingredients and variety of dishes. Very enjoyable, specially recommand fried chicken with korean beer. Its really yumm :) Need booking ahead for weekends otherwise long waiting :P
Having moved to the area a few months back, I often caught the glimpses of Suga on my way to Jordanville station. One cold rainy evening, after a horrible day at work, I craved something warm and tasty. I spotted Suga and decided that it’s time.
I got in quite early at around 6 on a Tuesday night, there were already a few tables occupied. A lovely Korean lady who appeared to be the owner of the restaurant greeted us and took us to our table. Having been to Korea just over two months ago, I was extremely delighted to look at the authentic choices on the menu. We decided to share the steamy army stew, accompanied by Kass beers. I soon noticed that the owner was not only our host for the night, she was also the waitress and the cashier. Everything was taking a lot longer to come out, but my doubt soon disappeared once I tasted their stew and the complimentary condiments (their home made tofu and kimchi are freakin amazing)
I cannot vouch high enough for Suga, it’s a big surprise to find such a gem in my new neighbourhood. I just wish I had gone in a lot sooner, highly recommend it!
I went to this restaurant at last night. We ordered 2 main dishes. It was FANTASTIC!! Moreover we could enjoy about 7 Side dishes. Food quantity was so big. however it was cheap. It was So DELICIOUS! All of staff was very Kind and restaurant atmosphere is so romantic and So clean. I can Strongly recommend.!!
GOOD FOOD GOOD SERVICES. This is the one of my favourite Korean restaurant in Melbourne.
I had only 2 main dishes however SUGA serves up to 7 side dishes!!!!!! Of course the food was so amazing and they are so nice and friendly. You should definitely go there for dinner!
Great authentic Korean food!. I always enjoy coming to Suga with friends or family. The waiting staff and the proprietress are always friendly and attend to you promptly, even when its busy. The portions are big and good to share. They also have an extensive menu with lots of variety with plenty of shared dishes like large casserole stews, hearty soups and crunchy fried chicken. Whenever we go, there are always lots of Korean customers so it appears to be the real authentic stuff!
A couple of dishes that I always tend to order are the odeng tang (Fish balls in seafood broth) and the soondae bokkeum (Korean blood and vermicelli sausage in spicy sauce). It really hits the spot when I want my favourite Korean street food! Most Korean restaurants I've been to don't serve the latter and if they do, it's generally in soup (They serve this at Suga too if you prefer it cooked this way).
I really recommend Suga if you're looking to satisfy your Korean cravings in the Eastern suburb!
Made a booking quickly and easily for a Friday night. Recommended the beef bulgogi and spicy fried chicken. Both were delicious, but I think we will become regulars for the chicken, it was amazing.
Excellent first experience. Went tonight with my girlfriend. Didn't make a booking. Staff were excellent and very accommodating as my girlfriend is vegan. Entrees were free and seemed to be on an endless supply which was great as they were delicious. We both had Bibim Bap and it was amazing. Will definitely go again.
Really cozy and family style Korean restaurant! Very relaxing ambience which is different from your typical loud and busy Korean restaurant vibe.
The banchan (side dishes) are amazing and soups are really warming and tasty.
Will come again!
My favourite to go dinner place!
Super authentic and delicious with lots of side dishes!
Soondae soup, chicken bulbak, spicy seafood tofu soup are a must have!
It is the most authentic and traditional korean food in melbourne! I and my partner come here regularly and always satisfied with the food 😊
Highly recommend this restaurant
Best naengmyeon, pan chan & fried chicken ♥️
My whole family loves this place. Great selections on the menu, and food are just yummy. Dad loves the pork hock. My family has already planned for the next visit as soon as we stepped out the door.
The food here is fantastic, really great value and large portion sizes. The gukbap in particular is a highlight as the flavour was amazing. It is a lot less busy than other places which is great to relax and take your time to eat.
This place is an absolute gem. Have been here on multiple occasions and the food quality and taste is always absolutely amazing. The food is fresh and tasty and I absolutely love their gukbab and kalguksu. The side dishes provided are also so tasty and so many are provided. This is really authentic korean at its absolute best. Can't recommend enough!!
