Review Mama's Kitchen - Chadstone

Quirky little Chinese restaurant on Warrigal Rd right next to Holmesglen station The welcome was warm and friendly and the place was busy on a Saturday night. Ordered sweet and sour pork, braised pork both a generous serving of rice. Both dishes were good. The pork was rustic. Spring Rolls rounded out a solid meal. Fast service. Four stars a fair rating.

Ordered diced chicken and got mostly bones. Maybe I ordered wrong thing but feel ripped off at $50 for these 2 dishes. All the bits of the chicken no-one wants and so oily. Never again.

Hot Dry noodle (热干面）was not as authentic as I would expect.The beef rice noodle exceeded my expectation, although I wish the beef was not as fatty as what I got. 豆皮 and Celery stir fried tofu were delicious.

Just ordered and picked our dinner very disappointed. We spent 80+ for the bullfrog unfortunately the amount of bullfrog in the dish is very small. Also tastes really really dry and unfresh. Be aware. We also ordered a veggie dish mentioned multiple times over the phone no spicy no spicy, yet I can still see red pepper in the dish. Please don't call yourself mama if you can only rip people off. It's a family birthday dinner and I'll never come back.

Mamma Kitchen serves Hubei-Wuhan style cuisine, which is flavourful and not too spicy. The owner of the joint and the staff members were very helpful and friendly. For English speakers, I would suggest ordering / seeking recommendations from the younger waiter. [You could also show them photos of the dishes posted on Google reviews to order.] I also saw the owner giving out lollies to patrons with children which I thought was a nice gesture. We received a plate of nuts as an entrée before the dishes came. We ordered the below. -Chicken and sea-snails -Pork belly with potato -Eggplant dish -Noodles with sesame sauce -(Not in photo but highly recommended!) Fried beancurd / tofu skin with rice and mushrooms inside. It’s sort of a wrap. -(Not in photo) Vegetable dish The portion was generous. We ordered 6 x dishes for the 3 of us and we definitely could not finish them. Had 3 x boxes for take-away. Hubei style cuisines are typically not too spicy. It wasn’t spicy at all for me but you can request how spicy you want the dishes you order to be. [If you eat in this area regularly, chances are you would have eaten at Yangcheng (serves Hunan style cuisine and one of my favourite Hunan restaurant). I find Yangcheng’s food spicy.] Also, I left the joint not feeling thirsty which probably means no MSG in the food. This isn’t your typical Chinese restaurant. They specialise in Hubei-Wuhan style cuisine and have all the typical meat (i.e. pork, beef, chicken, etc.) and vegetable cooked with their unique style. Would recommend!

Got noodles very delicious, great portion sizes and very quick service. Went around midday on a Tuesday, wasn’t very busy so was able to be seated right away. The only thing was that the xiao long bao (soup dumpling buns) aren’t made in shop, seems like they’re bought somewhere else

Had dinner there. Good quality food at good prices, is byo. Staff very helpful and enthusiastic . Ask for less spicy if you don't like spicy good. Easy parking also helps. Will go again..

Seriously unbelievable you charge 26 for this it’s for 2 people no chance so overpriced wow some restaurants are unbelievable never go there again!!!!!!

So good, salty, spicy, fried, crispy goodness in that chicken and fried rice was really tasteful too. Will definitely come back! Reasonable pricing as well

I've enjoyed meals here in the past, can't say it's bad. Between 2 & 3 star. Tasty food and good options on the menu, though often every time I have ordered meat off the bone the ratio of meat to bone has not been up to standard. The photo I have attached is the amount of bone for I got with a meal, barely any meat on the bone with lots of rice filling the container. Once again food is nice, others along the strip are better though.

I am a big fan of the restaurant next door, so I decide to try a new one today. The food looks totally different from the pictures on the menu. All the dish taste very terrible. In the end, when I get the bill, I find out the dish costs more than the other restaurant. Very terrible experience. Won’t come back.

As usual amazing food. I love their steamed dumplings. You have to wait a little bit it’s worth the wait. I’m also impressed by how they attend their customers. Yesterday, it really felt like home. We were served free tea, salad (yummy) and candies for my niece. Their staff is always very polite.

The service was awful！We waited at least 45 mins for the food！They kept asking what we order and food never showed up until we said we gonna leave！food was normal with strong taste of MSG！wont come back anymore！ bad experience and not recommend

Waited for for 45 mins still no food was served. Staff came and confirmed our order 3 times while we were waiting, but nothing ever came. So we told them that we have to go because of other appointments later. Magically, out of no where, they found one of our dish is ready and has been sitting on the bench for god knows how long...Even worse, the food was COOL and AWFUL. Really horrible experience. Will NEVER go back.

Another winner using the Value, Cleanliness, Service & Food Quality benchmarks - this place scores an easy 4 ! A simple uncomplicated and yet challenging (for choice) menu confronts you both in the pictures in the front window and once inside. Our meal was a simple one - Pork and Chinese Cabbage Steamed Dumplings and Green Beans with Pork Mince which the waiter warned us was ‘spicy’ ! He was wrong ! It was one of the most beautifully balanced dishes we’ve had anywhere. The dumplings were divine. Got Mamma’s eye and gave her a big thumbs up which she graciously acknowledged. <br/>Get down here. Shrug off the basic decor and get interested in Mamma’s food ! That is what it’s all about !!

Most Chines food in Mel are Sichuan or Canton style. This place is sth different. The hot dry noodle is very authentic and just love it! The sticky rice pancake is very special and super tasty. Most dishes are spicy, with very good taste. Would love to try more!

Those hot,dry wuhan noodles are certainly something to write home about. I devoured the entire bowl in a flash both times I had them. I also tried the soupy version where the noodles come in  a full bodied beefy broth redolent of star anise and cinnamon. Really delicious but also very spicy. The fried rice was tasty but could have done with a bit more meat and vegetables.  I noticed the Chinese-speaking diners were supping on some really exotic fare: braised duck bills and whole fried fish atop a bed of noodles.  All of it looked and smelt delicious.  The mural on the wall and beautiful tableware all add to the whole experience. As do the waiters, who are always polite despite their limited English.

Wuhan dry noodle is pretty authentic ! I had this type of noodle when I worked in Shanghai and what I got from Mamma Kitchen is almost identical 👍<br/>

I got a take away lunch from here today. Mamma Kitchen actually looks inviting inside with nice murals on the walls. I really liked the plate and things which had the pictures of the traditional masks 🎭 from that part of China. There was even a cat in a cat carrier which was strange, it belonged to a couple of the diners. While I was waiting for my food the lady working here gave me a nice plum drink which was a nice touch. <br/><br/>I wanted to order this soy type pancake with meat underneath but unfortunately they had run out, instead I ordered braised beef with potato. I ate it back at the Tafe and I found it to be a nice dish but nothing exciting. One disappointing thing about it was that there wasn’t much meat and most of it was fat anyway. I couldn’t eat all of my meal so I had some for dinner tonight and it tasted better at dinner time hahaha. <br/><br/>The people working here were very friendly and welcoming, they even welcomed a cat 🐈 hahaha. I would like to come back here and try another dish but maybe I’ll try the other restaurants on the strip first.

NKOTB, good dumpling but not ready for action ....<br/><br/>1 week old, the newest addition to the strip, you won't miss it as you can only drive about 40 km/hr.<br/><br/>Good and plenty on the Menu, sadly not all are available, either ran out or forgot to order supply ... like the Wuhan Pizza, would be interesting to see what that is.<br/><br/>Pleasant service, a bit slower from the kitchen. <br/><br/>Dumpling wise .... happy to come back, very reasonably priced ..... so Dumpling ON Chadstone.
