Review Dessert Story - Chadstone

Jessica
My go to place for Asian inspired desserts. Dessert Story has also recently started to expand their lunch/dinner menu which makes it convenient for those who are craving food rather than dessert. The restaurant decor is nice although customer service needs some improvement.

This venue seems to be a hit with the young romantics. Even the music sets the mood. Joking aside, the two desserts ordered (a mango pomelo sago with green tea ice cream and a black glutinous rice with sea coconut jelly with coconut milk) was alright. At best average. Maybe next time I'll have to try their shaved ice dessert. Their pop corn is a hit though. Nearly every table there ordered their pop corn chicken. Tastes just like how mum used to make them. Cash only venue.

customer service needs serious improvement. i was waiting at the counter for a couple of mins today before anyone took note of me, and then the guy walked over and then away back into the kitchen, one of the ladies walked off, and the last one ignored me pointedly... i walked out after a few minutes. on the note of the food. it is reasonable but gives the feeling that the staff don't really enjoy working there nor do they care about the quality of the food being served.

Don't pick Japanese Beef rice bowl! It looks nothing like the menu photo and tasted like a microwaved leftovers your grumpy wife served you - 2 nights ago. You've been warned.

This restaurant doesn't deserve a star. even a half. Bad customer service, no one is at the counter even when I went there. Besides this restaurant offers Japanese food like Teriyaki but all of the food they offer are bad.

I really like Dessert Story, the Taiwanese restaurant chain. Their Taiwanese chicken with spicy salt is awesome and their desserts are so varied and are an amazing way to beat the heat in summer!

Their fruit avalanche was flavourful, real fresh fruit and nice sweet ice-cream. Table was a tad sticky however, not much service going on.

Love their pop corn chicken! Must try!! Only one down side is they have a small kitchen, may take a bit long to Wait until the food come

Beuitful food. Great staff members. Definitely this restaurant is one of a kind and their popcorn chicken is better than all the big food joints like KFC and McDonald's.
I'm always getting all my friends, family, and even random strangers to eat here.

Love my asian desserts but this place doesnt deliver the best. I do enjoy their milk teas they are well made and offer a traditional flavour.

My favourite dessert story as of yet, their servings are massive and they always have fresh ingredients on hand. I can't resist always coming here to eat my sugar fix.

Bad food, nothing like the picture on the menu. ........................................................................................................

We got the Dessert Story Shaved Ice and the Mango Snow Ice, both of which were on the 'recommended'. The portion of the shaved ice is very generous and much bigger than the snow ice one, however he snow ice was more creamy and resembled more of ice-cream. Both flavours were delicious.

We had lunch at Papparich next door & came here for desserts after. A growing teenager was still hungry & devoured a bowl of Taiwanese style popcorn chicken rice! We had the silky smooth taro tofu pudding & black glutinous rice with mango & coconut milk. Loved that the desserts were not overly sweet.

It looks like staff have taken feedback on board because the service has improved so much since I was last here a couple of months ago! Last time I came here, staff were unbelievably rude- I received a mini lecture on how I need to improve the way I order drinks and when my drink was brought over, it was slammed down on the table without a word (I'm not even exaggerating).

However this time, staff were genuinely friendly, professional and accommodating. Many here have complained that they wouldn't provide tap water, but this has since been changed. On this occasion, water was brought to me at the table with ice and lemon.

Food came out within 10-12 mins of ordering and was pretty good for the price, as usual. I will be coming here more often again.

Food took a while and service is not very pleasant. When DS introduced savoury to their menu I gave it a try and was disappointed although their desserts always nice and refreshing
Poorly ventilated.Otherwise service is fast and friendlt. Very good deal for Asian Sensation Hot Food $6.90 or combo with drink (see menu) at $9.90.
Tried Japanese Chicken Katsu Curry-crunchy.Took home 3 portions of Teriyaki Chicken Rice.Good value as it was of decent size.
Tried the tofu pudding with taro balls.Yummy.

Not too sure why this place is lowly rated. I've never had an issue here - might be because the type of desserts aren't to everyone's fancy. I always see people ordering savoury dishes, but I prefer to come here for the desserts. The service here is always fine when I go, the staff are efficient and get things out quite quickly. The flavours are always there, and make for a nice, refreshing treat after a big shopping spree!

You know what? This place will be a nobrainer for 1.0 if you order any kinds of desserts on their menu despite they are meant to be specialized on Hong Kong/Taiwanese desserts.
Maybe this could be ironic but as a local we noticed this place is somehow surviving. And what keeps them survive? It's their $6.90 express lunch of your choice.
Believe it or not, they serve more savory rice dishes than desserts in this franchise. Everyone at the table is ordering rice dishes and no desserts on sight.
Ordered their curry chicken rice - price wise it beats everyone in Chaddy and portions are decently big.
It's the food when your on a budget and you want prices flashback to 2006.
I won't comment about the food quality, not bad and not excellent. But If you only having 7 dollars in your pocket and you are desperately looking for food, this place will be an oasis for you.

Dessert story should stick to desserts. Tried their abysmal noodle dishes and it's not even worth 1.0 stars. Noodles were soggy, soup was watery, flavour was too bland or too salty or too sour topped with a layer of oil. paying $9.90 for the lunch combo? Sorry but I rather go get a frozen meal. Service was terrible, first they forgot out order, then they sent the wrong order to our table 3 times. Needless to say, walked out feeling most unsatisfied. Stay away from their savoury items.

Terrible service, the staff did give a sh*t, they are too busy talking amount themselves.
Ordered A RED BEAN soup, it was totally rubbish... too watery. Very disappointed. The shop looks very messy with a shopping trolley and brooms in dinning area.

I have had one too many bad experiences from this place that I feel compelled it review. The service staff keep changing and they are getting from bad to worse. They can't be bothered doing their job properly. Most recently I ordered herbal jelly with ice. First they ran out of pearl then later they told me they didn't have enough herbal jelly. So I changed my order to mango sago. When I got home I realised that instead of mixing mango pulp/juice with coconut milk, they gave me a whole tub of coconut milk with mango pieces and sago. The coconut milk tasted spoilt and diluted, it was inedible. What a waste of money and time! I am never going back again!!!

after so many times eating at different dessert story, i can assure that the best branch is in westfield doncaster and the one in the city.
other than that either not consistent or sucks, include this one in Chadstone.
went there last time was last week, ordered their watermelon juice with watermelon ball, it was so thick that i cant even mix it, and all the sugar are on the bottom ( i thought its supposed to be mixed??) since i dunno, i just straight away drink it, it was super sweet.. after i drink about half, then it gets more and more bland.. then i know why.. take away black glutinous porridge which tasted sour and not that spoiled sour, but its just sour from their ingredients. confirm not going back, ever.

Awful & slow service.

They were out of stock for all the jelly extras, when we asked for a certain product the person at counter had no idea what it contained and told us it was unavailable since they were out. Yet 5 other tables were delivered the same item we wanted to order, even though they were seated after us.
It took 20mins for a simple pearl milk tea to be made and another 20 for hot food. Hot food came cold, the Japanese Katsu on rice was warm and the rice was cold. Flavours were average. Ramen with pork bone soup was not ramen at all. The soup came out with vermicelli and a very unappetizing colour.
I literally waited 45mins for fried chicken wings. Wtf.

Do not come here. Waste of time. Waste of money.

Okay, I’m going to preface this short entry with a disclaimer – I did not make the right menu choices at this restaurant. Dessert Story is (understandably) famous for their Taiwanese-style desserts, but we went and had non-dessert menu options which were all uniformly unimpressive. I’ve learnt my lesson for the next time!

A large group of me and my TAFE friends came here (12 of us). This was quite a while back on a Thursday afternoon, but I thought I would quickly share my experience.

We all ordered different dishes from the menu to share and taste. Service was so-so, not very friendly, but the desserts exited the kitchen quickly. Desserts were also so-so. Too bland for my Western tastebuds. The restaurant was empty when we arrived.

10 out of 12 of us were violently vomiting and bed ridden from Friday night continuing through to the weekend and the start of the week, and had to take time off work and studies because of it. There must have been something very bad within that mix of dishes, as I have never known food poisoning like it before.

Went back to the store and spoke to the management. Very indifferent attitude.

I tell anyone and everyone to steer clear of this place. My health and my friends' health is extremely important to me, and it was very embarassing for my friends who had recommended this place to me.

Love coming here to have our fix of Taiwanese style desserts. Recommendations would include their mango shaved ices, as well as peanut/sesame paste tong yuen in ginger soup

This is probably the most quiet DS I've ever been to. Although it's located just right next to the busy PapaRich but it's almost empty. Anyway, we sat down and ordered our 'Snow Ice' dish and I would say it was not bad at all. Besides, the service here was far more better than one on Swanston street (Friendlier staffs with manner). Tasted and recommended.

Extremely rude & got the order wrong!. Waited for 30mins to get my order, not to mention it was dead quite in in store. Then I got my order which was not quite right. I returned back in store to let them know that this is not what I've ordered and would like a refund please. Instead of graciously saying sorry to me, they wandered back and forth to explain that they have done this instead of that. Clearly not what I ordered. I had to ask multiple times for a refund in which at the end the girl at the counter said quote "it's not our fault" then proceeded to "WHATEVER" me. How rude!!

Ordered takeaway, got home and realised that my peanut soup had no glutinous rice balls that I paid for! Lousy!!!

I sat down, browsed the menu for 5 mins, waited in line for another 5, come up to the counter and the girl tells me "sorry, take away only. We close at 9.30" it was 9.30 on the dot. It's not like I came in after the doors were closed. I love dessert story desserts, but I don't like the service in the chadstone one.

Be ready to wait about 30 minutes for your meal! But taste was good I should say...

No water. We also experienced the same thing. We were very thirsty on a very hot day. When we asked for water the waitress refused and asked us to buy their over priced bottled water. But as we were very thirsty due to the heat and the fact that the pearls were sticking to our throats and making it hard for us to swallow and breath, we had to go to the toilets and drink water from there.

Hard pearls. Have had dessert story at Glen Waverley and Box Hill, both were very good but this one failed to perform.
The pearls in my drink were hard and the service was terrible.
The table next to me wanted some water, but waitress said they had to buy water.
After arguing with the waitress, she unwillingly filled up their cups, and brought it over in a sarcastic manner.
Employees need to be taught better manners.
Saster
I normally like black sticky rice with coconut milk so chose this at Dessert Story but was served a dessert which was drowned in artificial tasting mango syrup plus the mango was not sweet. Overall taste was bland and lacking any fragrance & sweetness, which makes me wonder if the ingredients are fresh.
