Lots of variety of different dishes offered by New Shanghai. We ordered the chilli wonton, XLB & braised beef in noodle soup, everything tasted delish.
Did the job I guess. But food could be more spectacular to match the decor. 4 stars to give some encouragement to the business to step it up.
Getting our dumplings fix at New Shanghai when I’m at Chaddy! Their dumplings are made to order and its very fresh. They do have a good variety of dishes to order that goes really well with rice and my favourite is the stir fried crispy beef. I would usually order that to go with rice, the plum sauce goes really well in the dish.
Lovely decor in the restaurant and the staff there are quite attentive.
We had a great time at New Shanghai on a weekday. There was plenty of suits but overall quite busy. I loved the chili oil wontons with dragon purse and peanut sesame oil. I would highly recommend it! The flavours go really well together and the vinegar gives it a great tang. The soup noodles had a great clean broth but the pork was slightly overcooked and it wasn't very spicy. Dumplings were also good. Overall the service was average but we really enjoyed the food.

Although there has been many negative reviews of their Chadstone location, it was a pleasant experience for me and I hope that it doesn't deter you from going.
We had to queue for a table although there were quite a few empty tables visible as the staff was busy. We enjoyed the xiao long bao and fried pork buns which had soup inside. We also got the custard bun which was decent.
Very delicious!I don’t know why it’s only 2 stars.

Had zero expectations being in a shopping center but was pleasantly surprised, after walking down this strip looking for something we picked new Shanghai even though it was the only one with a line which was only 5 minutes or so that was fine. The service was friendly and polite, drinks took a little longer then you’d expect, it’s a large bar so maybe an additional staff member on a Thursday night behind the bar could solve this. We had pork and chive dumplings which were solid nothing to get super excited about, both of us had noodle soups which were really really good and the chicken in the crispy chicken soup was really really good. My missus doesn’t usually like thigh but she loved it! Will definitely be back.
Best waitress and waiters ever! The food is nice. It tastes like what I had in Shanghai. Very authentic! I like xiaolongbao and pan fired bun best!

☑ 8.5/10 for these flavour bombs! 💣Pretty sure thats what dumpling means when translated in english 😌 especially these steamed pork dumplings 🤤 specially made to retain all the flavour of the juice, they literally explode on your tastebuds when bitten into 😍 so good we had to get two servings 😋 pretty well priced at $9.90! 💰 for the quality you're getting, im happy to pay that! 🙌🏽 considering you would pay roughly the same at some other places for rubbery, dry dumplings! 🤔 GREAT filling! Well seasoned and well balanced pork mixture with some juicy fat in there as well to provide a real rich flavour punch! 👊🏽 mix up your vinegar and chilli oil, get dipping, then drop those bomb.com's in your mouth! 😎

Taste ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - I had high expectations because there were hordes of families queueing ahead of me. It was worth the wait. The pan fried pork buns was perfectly fried. I only wished they added more meat inside the sanjianbaos! Xiao Long Bao and fried noodles was standard. But my favourite part of the meal was the crispy chicken with rice. The dipping sauce that accompanied the very well fried and tender chicken slices was just amazing.. would come back for that and the shepherds purse, which I heard is amazing!

Ambience ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - the restaurant was large and spacious enough to accommodate the large crowd. Love the oriental designs.

Presentation⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - the food was presented beautifully, especially given the inherent handicap that Chinese food faces (Chinese food never really looks as visually appealing as other cuisines - 50 shades of brown.. but still delicious in my eyes!)

Price ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - i am cognizant that I was in a mall, so pricing would always be a bit steeper. Having said that, pan fried pork buns for $14 and chicken rice for $17 is acceptable - especially when you have an entertainment app discount!

Service ⭐️⭐️- it was a public holiday so the workers were understandably very busy. However, the service provided to us was without a smile and in fact, accompanied with a hint of irritation. When I asked them for saucers and spoons, the girl looked like I was causing her trouble... it is unfortunate because we paid extra $2/person as a public holiday surcharge - probably to pay her!
Been back many times. Love their xiaolongbao and steamed buns! Absolutely have to order everytime! My other favourite is the drunk chicken cold noodles! Fried rice was not very good though. The price is very reasonable! My all time favourite in chaddy.
I go there frequently with my friends and we all love the taste, plus it has friendly staff and a short waiting time. I recommend going there for sure!

I had a lovely work dinner here, compete with lots of veggie dumplings, noodles and soup dishes.

Very surprised this place only has a 2.5 rating. I found the service to be top notch and the food reasonably priced and delicious. The food was served to us quickly and the waiter who took our order was very attentive to my friend who is a vegetarian. Unfortunately forgot to take photos of the food but we had the steamed prawn dumplings, the pot stickers, the stir fried noodles and the vegetarian dumplings. The restaurant also had a nice view of the shopping centre and was very well lit.
3.5. The pumpkin cakes are very soft and chewy, with red bean filling wrapped inside. Really really delicious. Love it. Would have been a 4.5 if the pork and cabbage dumplings tasted good. They had chewy pork bits inside and non consistent.
This place definitely deserves more than a 2.5 star rating!
Not much service if you want to order extra drinks but they are too expensive there anyway so happy with just the tap water so this doesn’t play much of a part in my grading…
The xiao long baos were divine, nice amount of yummy soup to dumpling ratio and the wrappers weren’t too thick, I love it when a place is super busy and they are still able to pump out yummy good quality food.
The calamari was maybe worth loosing a point over as they left that rubber film on it ☹ so some pieces were a bit too chewy, but I love everything else so much that I still have to give them a 5
The gluten puffs dish OMG delicious I highly recommend this, I think that might actually be a new favourite of mine! The only thing I would say is that it might have been a bit easier to eat if they chop the bottom of the bok choy off.
We came here a while ago during mooncake season. Saw that they had handmade mooncakes on offer and I couldn’t resist getting myself a couple to try! By the time we arrived they only had 2 flavours left, the pork and the mixed nuts. We went for the pork one, and it was absolutely delicious!!! Still fresh and warm, and the outer pastry was so perfectly flakey and crumbly. The pork inside was soft, juicy and flavourful. So good!
Get there early to avoid the queue! My favourite dishes are the rice cake with shepherd’ purse, the pan fried pork dumplings and the prawn wontons with chilli and peanut/sesame sauce.
Came here tonight with my partner, we ordered a variety of smaller dishes to share, food was delicious, lots of flavour. We had seaweed (texture different from other seaweed i have had in past, still really good), garlic cucumber (a bit basic), pork ribs (flavour was so nice, however a tricky dish to eat, as there is minimal meat on the bone for each piece), pork steamed dumplings (YUM), custard buns (very nice), seasame puffs with ham (very nice).
The service was good however one of the waitresses spilt something then used my napkin to clean it up & never brought me another.
General atmosphere nice & for a restaurant in Chadstone not too expensive, plus we had an entertainment voucher! Certainly worth a visit for anyone who hasn't been.
New Shanghai is one of my go to places for dumplings. I love that I can conveniently stop by for a visit when shopping at the Emporium in the city or Chadstone.
My favourite dishes are the Shepherd’s purse and pork wontons, with chilli oil, peanut & sesame sauce, pan fried pork buns and xiao long bao. No matter how many times I visit I always order these dishes.
As an added bonus, if you have the entertainment book you can save a further 25% of your bill.
Overall I rate New Shanghai ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.
Partner’s friend recommended this place to us once. She thought it was the best restaurant in Chadstone. We tried it today and we both thought 2.4 was too harsh to New Shanghai. Food here are delicious, esp the fried pork ribs with garlic. Wontons r quite small but the soup is appetizing. The overall disadvantage of this place is its price, which cannot be really reasonable. But considering its location n rent, perhaps they need to set a higher price to run the restaurant.
What a dumpling place! I have walked many times past The Emporium venue, and today found ourselves at Chadstone for an appointment.
Just walking past, the food smelled amazing, and it was bustling with people eating, and anywhere with a queue to get in is normally a good sign!
We ordered from the dumplings / small dishes range so we could try a selection of dishes, and the flavours were amazing.
Standout dishes were the prawn wontons with a chilli, peanut and soy sauce, just WOW and I’d come back for this dish!
There was also a truffle and pork dumpling on the specials menu which was beautifully balanced and you really tasted the truffle.
Steamed pork belly bao took our tastebuds back to holidays in Asia, and pork pot stickers were also tasty but not as amazing as the other dishes.
Under $70 for soft drinks and four dishes for two adults, great value for some amazing dumplings, highly recommend!
The feature dishes like the xiao long bao, pan fried dumplings were very good. We also ordered the braised pork belly which was prepared and presented amazingly well. It wasn’t greasy at all. Customer service was friendly and efficient when I went. Even though other reviewers have said different, maybe I caught everyone on a good day! Pricing seemed to be consistent with the other restaurants in the mall.
Real OGs know New Shanghai goes DUMMY HARD. Just order the New Shanghai Signature dumplings ya goofies - the other dishes are average, but the dumplings alone warrant a high score.

I’ve been here several times and it’s always packed with people. However it’s worth the wait for the dumplings.
You can’t go wrong with the Xiao Long Bao, Pan fried Pork buns and Shepherds purse and pork won tons. The Fragment half duck served with steamed buns is worth a go too

I was here with my friend around 4.30pm for some dimsum and the main dish,very busy place around this time due to the anzac public holiday,charged $2 per person. Queued for 5-10 minutes and finally got a table.
Food:
Xiao long bao was really delicious. The texture of the skin was thin and right,the soup inside the dumpling were fell off in your mouth as you bite the dumpling little by little. It taste authentic,perfectly seasoned and cooked!
The salted egg tofu was taste amazing!perfectly seasoned, the skin was crispy and the inside was so silky and smooth. I can feel that the salted egg was not overpowering the tofu,it was just a perfect balance.
Rainbow beef was really nice too. Reminded me the taste of sweet and sour pork but different texture and style. The beef was so tender,i can easily bite the beef with no effort. the skin was crispy,perfectly cooked and seasoned,the sweet and sour sauce just contrast well with the dish!
The ambience and the place was nice,huge and bright however a bit crowded and the staffs were all right but it was hard to reached them.
Overall, good food,good time and good place to be enjoyed with your friends or family. Will be back again to try the other menu!

There’s always a line up but you don’t have to wait too long to be seated. Westerners might not be used to ‘Asian style’ customer service. Basically, it’s food first, service later. If you want good service, go to McDonalds. If you want decent dumplings, go to New Shanghai. My highlights are the soup dumplings, and the wontons in chilli and peanut sauce. Absolute standouts. A great venue in a great shopping centre.
We decided to try this place today, around 11.30 am while shopping at Chadstone. Not crowded at that time (got pretty busy later though). Ordered Drunken Chicken (a cold entree), hot, spicy and sour soup, pan-fried pork buns and steamed veg.dumplings.
I will rate the place in the following categories:
Service - not totally poor but well below average (my wife ordered a glass of hot water which never arrived). So we give it 2.5.
Presentation - not bad, nice place, pleasant vibes - 4.
Flavours and tastes - great stuff! (Veg.dumplings were a bit oily inside but that's the way I like it). Drunken chicken and pan-fried buns tasted especially good!
Hence, overall - not bad. Recommended, if you are after flavours and not fussy about the service.
