Review Khao Pla - Chatswood

Saumya Sharma
Enjoyed the food. Had spicy noodles and pork belly with greens (forgot the name). Food was good and tasty. However, one particular staff was not welcoming. No smile, no hello and hi. Nothing! Though the food was good, I won't go back because of the service. If you are reading this and you like their food but not service try Macquarie centre Khao Pla. The service they give is super good. You will enjoy food and service.

Really average food with everything so heavily seasoned. We drank nearly one and a half bottle of water just to wash them down. The pork was too sweet for my liking. Long wait for the food to hit the table as well - 35 mins until we see first dish. Although it was a busy Saturday night. However consider the portion very cheap for restaurants in Chatswood. Probably the only upside.

Went on a busy Friday night and the staff were generally quite attentive despite being very busy. The restraurant decor and fit out were nice. The pork ribs are sweet and were our favourite dish, a must order. The pear salad with soft shell crab was a little less crunchy than we would like and the garlic was quite strong, however it’s noteworthy for its flavour. The pad Thai was also very heavy on the garlic which was a bit overwhelming. The Tom yum goong was too sour for my palette.

Had the chicken pad Thai. Very average tasting, definitely not something I’d be in a rush to go in and order again. Found a particular staff member quite unwelcoming, no smiles or anything. I felt like I was a burden just eating there. 25/11: Update. Went there again today and had the Chinese broccoli w/pork belly and stir fried chicken with cashew. Portion size and price was very affordable. Taste of the dishes were actually quite nice. However, again, the service was horrendous…. this time by a male wait staff (previous encounter was a female staff member). I would consider changing my rating to a 4 or even a 5 if the staff didn’t have such attitudes. 😒

My partner had a vegan 'chicken' cashew nut dish which he LOVED and I had a vegan pad pak. I must be honest, it didn't have much flavor, but loved the combination of veggies. Lastly, we waited one hour before they took our order and we waited so long for the food as well. Service could be better.

I enjoyed the food. Red curry duck was good, duck meat was tender and the curry was fragrant. Mixed fried greens were fresh and yummy. The presentation of the pork ribs (we had eaten one rib before the photo was taken) was good and taste was ok. These 3 dishes with 1 jasmine rice cost us $62.

Nice Thai foods in Chatswood. The pork belly is cooked perfectly and really crispy. The massamman beef is tender and full of flavors. Love the vibe.
Jennifer C
Food was way too salty, too spicy and overly seasoned - we had the pad see ew and duck curry. Decor is nice but the tables are quite cramped together, they limit your dining time and service was not attentive as they are too busy and understaffed. Won’t be back.

Having heard great things about Khao Pla I was interested in how I would find it, and it certainly didn't disappoint. Having lived in Thailand for 7 years I've sampled the wide spectrum of Thai cuisine and yesterday's lunch left me in no doubt this is up there with the very best, both here and in Thailand. We had 5 dishes between us and in my mind they ranged from very good to sensational. The standout dish for me was the Banana Blossom Salad, a perfect blend of sweet, sour, salt and chilli with poached chicken and prawns. To die for! The best Crying Tiger I have ever tasted- succulent wagyu beef with a perfectly balanced dipping sauce. And don't miss the Sticky Black Rice for dessert- served on a tapioca base with Thai tea ice cream and jackfruit. Simply divine... The only complaint I had was that it gets very noisy when full and my elderly mum struggled to hear the conversation. A small price to pay when you get to eat the best Thai I've had in Australia, and up there with the best ever. Well done Pla, we will be back!

The best Thai food I and my partner have ever had so far!!! Not even one of the best but the BEST!!! Beat Chat Thai for sure. Food was served fast and staff there were so lovely :) Twice cooked pork ribs and fish curry in banana leaf are exceptional. That Thai iced tea ice cream though is def the top of the night. We will keep coming for more!!!

We went for dinner at Khao Pla in Macquarie Centre and they have a very slow service. We waited for an hour for our food when they're not even busy. They missed making our dessert so we have to cancel it and they didn't even bother apologizing. Very bad service.
Haidar Hamad
I think paying $3 for an extra egg on the side and $16 dollars for a dish without rice that came with three small piece of meat is ridiculously expensive!!! Food is nice but not worth the bang for your buck

This place has truly gone downhill, the service has become really rude and repellent. As a Chatswood resident I have been eating there since they opened but will no longer. I came to the restaurant at 3:30pm on Friday 22 June - the restaurant was completely empty but when I asked the waitress with a ponytail if they were still open she sighed and rolled her eyes as if it would be a major chore to serve me. Once I had sat down she told me that I would have to get up again and eat the remnants of my gelato outside - I was amazed as there were literally 1-2 spoonfuls left in the cup and I had been holding it the whole time she was serving me and she could have said something much earlier. When I said I would be leaving she literally smiled as she packed the water/cutlery up as if she was glad she had driven a customer away. I will never come here again - you have lost a loyal customer thanks to this waitress. There are hundreds of restaurants in Chatswood where you will not be treated with contempt.
Rebecca Darke
Thia is the best Thai we tasted and the banana blossom is a must!
Zeke Scofield
Absolutely shocking. I tried to order the lunch special of the pork belly with extra pork and was not allowed. So I was advised to order the regular dish. I was returned with 4 small pieces of fat and broccoli. My friend who ordered the lunch special received more pork. Absolute joke.
Nicole Choolun-Sargent
Horrendous service, took 15 minutes to take our names and then they made no effort to let us know how long it would take to get a table. Left a reserved table empty for 30 minutes and let a family of 4 with a sleeping kid stay way beyond finishing their meal while people were waiting for tables. It's been almost an hour and we're still waiting for a table.

One of the best places to eat Thai food in Sydney- unbelievably tasty food

Great food worth the money! Always a good atmosphere there. Nice, cosy and busy. Food is quick and delicious!
Kathy Xenidis
Love this place one of best Thai restaurants in Sydney.
Tram Nguyen
Amazing food and friendly, funny staff
Aurelia Tiam
Poor and rude service by all the waitresses - our water spilled all over the table and dripping all over the floor. Waitresses were just watching doing nothing - despite asking for help!
Samara G-Piper
Worse pad Thai ever! The lady who served was was rude and unwelcoming. Never coming back.
Chris Leung
This place rocks! The best Thai food in the universe outside of Bangkok..... possibly better given the quality Aussie produce.
Sara Anoosara
Banana blossom very sweet, pad Cha PLA very salty, the worst Thai milk tea in my life, all dishes are very small and pricy. Taste it's good for foreigner but definitely not for Thai. Poor services from the waiter.
Celia Greig
Sensational food! Would go back time and again! Gutted I've now moved overseas as only discovered a few weeks ago
Mahcey Cipriano
Worst Chicken Pad Thai I have ever tasted. Poor customer service. OMG!!! Not anymore.
Reza Mazhari
Amazing food, excellent customer service, reasonable price.
Roberta Zuccarello
Ordered a chicken "salad" after declining a spicy dish made with sugar, and got a bowl of shredded chicken with few peanuts, a sugary sauce and few paper thin cucumber half slices coated in chilli. The food was not bad but customer consideration is awful.left half of it
Mel Mensinger
The food is really scrumptious here!!!! We go regularly.
Michelle Mic Kim
I took my mum for lunch because I remember the food being wonderful here. Greatest disappointment in customer service. The two people working were too busy talking with their backs to everyone that literally everyone got up to find their own menus, cutlery, water and serviettes. The girl was completely lazy and looked like she didn't even want to be there. The guy went out to throw the rubbish of and came back, had a sip of his drink and then started taking out clean glasses from the dishwasher without washing his hands once. Overall the food was very salty and whenever we tried waving our arms and yelling for assistance, we were ignored and so I definitely won't be back. If I were the manager, if reevaluate your current team

I had a bad experience yesterday " undercooked food, and if you do not like the food or are not happy necessarily you have to pay.... or if you say to change my food , they are looking agley to you!!! They don't now how is respect.....
George Prompromis
A very enjoyable experience with some amazingly creative, authentic and memorable dishes We can't wait to return as there are many interesting dishes on the menu that entice you to come back The vibe, energy and friendliness of both staff and fellow patrons sitting in very close proximity made it a very enjoyable night out !!
Kennedy Taylor
10/10 food and prices

I've been transported to Thailand, from Chatswood, NSW Australia. A multitude of crisp Thai flavours and textures in each mouthful. Khao Pla. Highly recommended for authentic Thai flavours , thank you.
Alvin Mintarja
Not allowing my baby to eat her biccies was the biggest blunder, then my wife was declined to have her food "spicier" . Wtf is wrong with you guys ?
Adeline Er
Food is amazing but cleanliness is debatable! Found an eye lash last time and this time we found A NAIL in the dish. A tad disappointed that they didn't even come back to apologise or anything.
Wendy O'Hanlon
I was very ill and was suspicious of the seafood which I don't think was fresh

Ordered home delivery last night and the order never arrived. Ordered at 8:05pm, told the order would arrive at 9:25pm, which is already a long wait time. Then the order failed to arrive. My husband called the restaurant and was on the phone for 10 minutes as the driver was located. Still nothing. Then he called back to check the order again and cancel it. They said the driver was 10 minutes away! The whole process took well over 2 hours and we never actually received our order :(
David Hagger
Such wonderful food and just ordered home delivery for the first time and a great experience - thanks!
Shaima Khan
We love the red curry, chicken skewers and the mango sticky rice dessert they used to have. However, on our last visit over a month ago, the waitress was extremely rude. She kept mentioning the prices to everything and how the rice was going to cost an additional 3$ as if to say we couldn't afford it. We have just not returned even though we love the food.
Mich
I had really high hopes for Khao Pla seeing as it’s rated as 4.5,so I was slightly disappointed when it didn’t meet my expectations:( the spicy pork dumplings were amazing, but the Thai fried rice and pad see ew were a bit simple for my liking. The service was quick and I was surprised at how cheap the food was :)
Xiaoguniang
Massaman beef was quite good. Service was great as well.<br/>Although Thai sticky rice tasted like it was cooked yesterday, cold and not sticky at all.
John Andersons
Great food and great service. Didn't habe to wait too long for the food. Will be back.
Pingu
Average thai food. Pork ribs underwhelming and expensive for what it is. Waitress rude and impatient
A
My favourite Thai restaurant in Chatswood! <br/>Service is quite good, and the food is just 👌<br/>It’s also well priced, not particularly cheap but still good for what you get. <br/>Although when they warn you a dish is chilli, it is REALLY FRICKIN CHILLI! Couldn’t finish more than 1/4 of my noodles before I had an intense stomach ache and my mouth could no longer feel anything 🤣<br/>Also, don’t take away, for some reason it becomes terrible. The noodles become intensely sweet and they all clump together.

This is the second time I have come. The place is always so busy and that is understandable as the food is amazing. Love their Moo Ping - Pork Skewers and their pad see Eiw and their kana moo krob was very tasty.
Chewie
Moo ping: pork skewer ($3.50), muek yang: baby octopus skewer ($3.50), kana moo krob: chinese brocolli and pork belly ($17) and thai-style biryani: fragrant rice, chilli dip, beef cheeks ($16.50). All the dishes were well-executed. I especially liked the rice dish with its use of herbs, tumeric and spice making it fragrant and the braised beef, melt in your mouth. My boyfriend enjoyed the skewers but I don’t think they were necessary. There was heaps of leftovers after our meal too as the portion sizes are so generous.

This place is definitely one of my favorite Thai restaurants in Sydney. If you love authentic flavor of Thai food, you are sure to get it at Khao Pla. The taste is similar from Thai food that I had in Thailand, maybe not as spicy but still very flavorful. My favorite dishes here are tom yum goong and seafood fried rice. The Pad See Yiew is a bit too oily but I guess that is how it should be. Staff are nice and they would inform you if the food you ordered is spicy or not. Overall it's worth the money.
John Stanley
Nice friendly busy restaurant.<br/>Nice wine list great foods.<br/>Salt and pepper calamari was so beautiful!<br/>Only steak tartare was not excellent <br/>

Best fried rice in Sydney. Best place for Thai cuisine. Visit there once a week.

Khao pla chatswood, serious contender for best thai food in town.. it’s on top my go to thai restaurant. Come a bit early for dinner as they are usually crowded. For me, they have the best green curry and grilled beef tongue. banana blossom also my other favourite.. I have been here 4-5 times (also in macquarie centre) and will keep coming back.. they are so good
JSCH
Always my first choice restaurant in Chatswood. Try to come before 6.30 to avoid queue. Especially on weekend. Love the pad see ew and pad prik khing pork belly. Staffs are really friendly & helpful. Recomended for Thai food lover.
Brunonono...
Definitely a place that’s more a 3.5 than a 4 but I mean we’ve been here so many times that it’s not fair we give it a 3. So is it great Thai food, no idea but it’s super consistent and honestly we never leave here saying that meal was “a bit meh”. <br/><br/>Plus they’ve taken over next door and expanded the restaurant so must be doing something right :)

Pla ped pae wok fried fish takeaway for $17. Food was tasty but very small portion. No rice included and surcharge for paying with credit card.

Waited an hour and a half in line with my nine month pregnant wife, to then be rudely told we had been skipped ahead of because we hadn't specified if we wanted a window seat or not. When we got a seat, we received average Thai that you would be better off going to your local for.
Eunifoodie
THE SALADS HERE ARE SO GOOD. Highly recommend the nashi pear salad. It's a very refreshing salad that is mainly chopped up nashi pear, served with freshly deep fried soft shell crab. The banana blossom salad is extremely flavourful. I recommend their rozelle dessert here too
Linda
While travelling in Sydney... we visited this great little Thai place. Clean and simple layout, authentic Thai dishes, affordable price tag and large portions. The service was the main let down unfortunately.
Haroos
First came here about 3 years ago and have been a regular since and rate this amongst the best Thai places that I have been to. After trying my most dishes on the menu, the three staples for me are the pork ribs, chicken wings and chicken cashew stir fry. <br/><br/>The only downfall is that they can be abit rigid if you want to make slight alterations to dishes on the menu and they can be abit short with you but overall the food is sensational.
Samp Comps
Love the pad thai here. Keep coming back to it.<br/><br/>and the green curry is really nice too. order a rice to go with it lols<br/><br/>BUT it is a bit cramped for me.  And noisy.

Worst staff, unfriendly, rude and inflexible. Not willing to accomodate special dietary needs for our elderly diabetic friend. Learned that all sauces are pre-made and have sugar in them so asked chef and staff to leave off sauce and bring our elderly Diabetic friend a simple dish without sugar. Whole group had to leave the restaurant because they could not find a single dish. Pathetic!
Inga A
The food and dining experience at Khao Pla, Chatswood used to be great but we've noticed a decline. The service is curt and unfriendly, the food is served late, our rice dish was crunchy and one dish was cold (octopus is NOT tasty when served cold!). And what's up with the measly serving of white wine for $10 a class? Halfway through our meal, despite it being late, we were asked to vacate our table by a certain time. Given that there was no line snaking out the door (unusual for 7pm) and the family next to us were not asked to do the same, we were offended. Overall, the experience for us has soured and we won't be back again.
Oliver201402
The worst Thai restaurant I had in Sydney. I ordered a Pad Thai during lunch time, but it still not been served after 30mins. I couldn’t wait anymore, then I left. Similar situation to other tables. Ridiculous!
Jing Jasmine Huang
Value of money choice. The tom yum soup is the most spicy one. No wonder the waiter reminded me twice and told us it can make any less hot. It tastes good as well as the beef, only beef is not spicy at all. recommend to only try those less spicy dishes if you can't handle super hot.<br/>
Sarochin.ru
Food was great! We ordered Musamun curry, red curry with duck, minced chicken and spicy fish. All were good! <br/><br/>However, Service was beyond terrible. We tried to ask for water and waitress pretended not to see us.<br/>We ordered 4 dishes and only 3 dishes arrived so we tried to call a waiter over but once again, every staff ignored us. <br/><br/>There were a lot of staff behind the counter and in the kitchen however only 1 staff roaming in the dining area which is why everything was so slow. <br/><br/>I also overheard 2 staff talking in Thai, one of them told another to clean the table extra slowly so they do not need to accept more customers hence there were plenty of empty tables with reserve sign and long line of customers outside waiting. <br/><br/>I love the food here but I do not want to go back and experience staff’ terrible service and attitude.

A must go whenever we are in Sydney. We have been here three times and it has never disappoint us. First time was 2 years ago. Went there at 9pm and half full with a bunch of friends and we left very impressed. Brought a friend the second time and he ate two whole bowls of rice. Service and ambience were above average. Food was fantastic. Loved the massaman curry, pork ribs, pad see ew and the hor mok yang (fish pudding/tofu?). Tofu and mushroom dish was ok, but maybe it was too spicy for my liking. The only downside is that it gets super crowding and you may have to wait a long time for a table. Maybe try to go earlier to beat the crowd.
Gayathri P
The food arrived on the table without any order. We received a veggie side dish after we finished our mains order. Food and Qty were Ok. Will probably cut the chase of waiting for so long and eating okay food.
Impatient Chef
I think I would have had a better experience if I had dined in...ordered food to be delivered, I was advised that it would arrive in an hour. The food arrived 1hr 40min later and was cold. The fresh spring rolls had a good flavour, pad thai was ok. Will probably get Thai food from somewhere else next time.

Best Thai food in Chatswood.<br/>This place gets busy so book a table. My go to dish is green chicken curry and to finish off sticky sweet black rice. Delicious.<br/><br/>Service is also very fast.
Nguyễn Trần Như
Went to this place on a weekday night and it is packed with customers. The ambience is quite chaotic. I really dont enjoy the meal when they squeeze me and my bf into a small table surrounding by so many people. The crispy pork belly with green beans is a must try. The Thai chilli make the pork taste so good. However, the green curry is too salty. I feel hypertensive if I finish the whole curry bowl. 😫 The pad siew is tasty. Overall, I will still come back to try other dishes since they are one of the rare Thai place in Chatswood.
Connoisseurc
Much spicier than average, which I don’t mind. Many mains between $12-20 price point. Quick, brisk and not unfriendly service. Might need 3 dishes between 2 people. Has BYO option with low corkage.<br/><br/>Definitely one of Chatswood’s better restaurants.
Nicole Houston
I’ll start with the good - I ordered the chicken cashew stir fry which was great, and my friends enjoyed their dishes as well. The highlight was definitely the dessert - black sticky rice and thai milk ice cream. That was delicious! Overall, the food was very good in comparison to many other Thai places around.<br/><br/>What’s stopping me from giving 5 stars is the service. The dishes came out haphazardly - I didn’t receive my meal until all the others finished theirs. The waitstaff also seemed very keen to get everyone in and out as fast as possible - not entirely a bad thing but made us feel rushed when deciding to order.
Xlittlecupcake
Really popular Thai restaurant in chatty - a bit overrated imo. <br/>I like how you can just leave your name and number and they then call you once your table is ready. Service was decent until they forgot about one of the dishes we ordered.<br/>I was too hungry to take photos but ordered the spicy papaya salad, pad Thai, and a dish with pork belly + veggies (I didn’t try this one but my mate said it was delicious). <br/>The pad Thai was a bit too sweet and the noods were overcooked. If you like chilli (like me) I HIGHLY recommend the salad ✨🌶 💕🥗 💯 definitely the stand out dish here
Marble Gol
I had the banana blossom and it was way too sweet. I only managed to eat a couple of bites as I couldn't take it. Eventually I paid and walked out and had to go get something else to have for lunch.<br/><br/>I understand that tamarind sauce is sweet, however, in my view they put far too much. It was 10 times sweeter than it should have been to be a nice enjoyable dish.
Pinicolada
Very noisy, hard to have a conversation. Not sure how it got such high ratings. Nice interior design. Very modern and clean. Long wait considering it is Thai. Don’t let the prices fool you. Very small servings. I’m still hungry and usually I’m a light eater.
Andrew C
Really good, authentic Thai food. Lots of items on the menu are quite spicy though, and they are not kidding around with the chilis!<br/>The flavours are not modified at all for local palate, it's as close to the flavour of Thailand as I have found in Sydney
Bw_betman
Friendly service, delicious food, and convenient location. If you’re stuck on what to get for dinner, Khao Pla is always a safe bet for dates and catchups alike!
Sujan.sarkar1982
One of the best Thai places in Sydney! Have been visiting this place regularly since 14 months now. Friendly staff and cool music! <br/>Green curry is a must have over here.
Aya Marie
Me and my friend Kriska ate here just last night for a dinner. I'd have to say they serve good food.. on their menu they have some gourmet such as taretare, ceviche and the likes which I find impressive, for a casual Thai restaurant.<br/><br/>But then we were really hungry so we had the we ordered the pork rib which was fabulous! So tender, and flavours are just awesome! Serving was generous, I think we had 5 pcs of ribs for $20. We also had the Pad-Thai which I have to be honest, I have had better ones, I find it bit dry. Finally, the dessert! hail their dessert!!! We had the black sticky rice! This is so colorful, underneath the black rice are some green tapioca and on top of that is milk-tea flavoured ice-cream which was sorta orange in color and had some nata-de coco on sides and bit of edible leaves garnish, isn't that fab for a $10?!?! Oh and I forgot to mention they even have the "langka" (tropical fruit) on sides which are bright yellow and some yellow thing on top of the ice cream, I don't know what that one is! So many colors, textures and flavours!!! So yea, party in my eyes and in my mouth! Don't you just love to eat with your eyes as well!? lol...!<br/><br/>On the other hand, service was good, they are friendly and we were accommodated straight away. Ambience wise, place a bit small but really cool, they have some kinda newspaper design all over the wall.<br/><br/>Although, I'd have to mention this, lol, we sat outside just because, and our waitress checked on us literally 5x to ask us if we are ready for our dessert.. lol.. that just made us bit uncomfortable. Small stuff, so, 4 starts to you guys! Overall I loved it! I'll take my husband here one time and we'll try your tartare and some other food! Can't wait actually.
Inoue Munchies
Boy did this guy enjoy his time making my roll so much he left it on the roll filling bench for some time. He took a while to fill it up and made quite a mess with the sauces, it was dripping on the packet. Was not pleasant.<br/><br/>The roll was incredibly hard ! Like it was made 4 days ago! I couldn't enjoy it sadly as my teeth started to hurt - they are sensitive lately. It was tasty but was not a fan of the messy presentation.<br/>The packaging is handy as it seems it has a film of waterproof lining inside.<br/><br/>Wagyu was in the form on sausages. Was tasty though cannot understand how you can eat a rock hard roll.<br/><br/>Not really recommended unless you are happy with such a presentation, lack of pate, rock hard bread and all for $6.

One of my favourite Thai places in Sydney, Khao Pla is always my go-to if I'm in Chatswood and just simply need somewhere to eat that will never disappoint my tummy. Price to satisfaction ratio guaranteed!<br/><br/>Everything is worth a try. I wholly recommend the pork ribs. <br/><br/>The place is frequently busy so try get in during a time when it's not (i.e. not peak dinner/lunch). Unfortunately, on one occasion I did have to wait a bit more than usual on a particular dish.
Andrew Morton
Food absolutely bursting with flavour and staff are wonderfully friendly. I can not recommend it enough. In terms of flavour it puts the rest of the Thai joints in Sydney to shame. Only downside is its a little noisy in there, but if you want the authentic Thai experience close to Chatswood station, this place is a must.
Connie Qu
Overrated if ask me! Taste is all right. Price is cheap, but the size of food is...unspeakable😂😂😂... ppl work in kitchen are more than customers, but still very very slow on serving the food.
Benjamin Feng
Used to be a lot better.<br/>Ordered takeaway for kuy teaw kee mao and panang curry with rice. Both were quite disappointing especially the kee mao noodle dish. Salty, old ingredients, rice noodle texture was hard, no wok flavour and overly spicy. The panang curry was just way too salty not to mention the rice we were given was old as well. <br/><br/>
Jessye Flitton
Terrible food. The two noodle dishes I ordered tasted burnt. I asked for certain things to be added or subtracted and they weren't. Tried to get them remade and wasn't able to due to the order being take away and not sit in. Don't go here
RD
Best Thai food one can ever find in Sydney. My partner and I keep returning to this restaurant only because the food is so authentic and yummy. We can never get enough of it and keep returning to it, sometimes even every week. I have never tasted better Thai food ever! The service is excellent and the people running the restaurant are so sweet. Give it a try if you are looking for some awesome authentic Thai.
J
Best Thai in Chatswood but if you can't handle spice do not order any dish with chilli.<br/>The milk tea has to be my favourite in Sydney, creamy and full unlike watery chatime.<br/>Pad Thai and pad see ew full of flavour, noodles cooked perfectly.<br/>Ribs fell off the bone and the sour and sweet sauce complimented the meat well.<br/>Chicken and cashew nuts too spicy for me to eat compared to other Thai restaurants though, I thought it would be lighter and sweeter.

The food is very good. We had the pork ribs, pad si ew and the sticky black rice and roselle for dessert. The pork ribs were very good, full of flavour and crispy on the outside. The pad si ew was also very good. The sticky black rice was delicious. The amount of food was just right and not too little and not too much. The only thing was the service was not very friendly. The lady who took our order seemed very impatient. But overall, we were pleased with the food.
Jacqueline
Amazing food! The massamam beef curry is seriously good! The wait for a table takes ages, but it also does delivery on Menulog which is really good
Tinkabellez
This place is always busy, good service and the wait for a table is not so bad (depending on day and time) sometimes there's too much fish sauce in the food, but if you don't mind the smell or taste, one of the best Thai places out there <br/><br/>Must try:<br/>• raw salmon dish <br/>• pork ribs (delicious!)<br/><br/><br/>

At first, I doubted this Thai restaurant because Chatswood has a large Chinese community. I am taking back every word I said because Khoa Pla is straight up amazing and I will let you know why. . The restaurant is right at the heart of the shopping centre which is easy to get to. The place is very cozy with just a few small tables for customers. I particularly liked the painting that embraces a lot of Thai culture.

Terrible service...I thought the watress was a communist. Haha..The waitress ordered where to sit and no choice for you to make... she will be upset and be laugh at you in public... haha ... also she can't speak english.... I have to say chilli basil chicken 3times! Haha<br/>It was the worst thai restaurant I have ever been in my life!!!
Foodiedeep
I ordered seafood fried rice, don't remember the Thai name though and the flavour and fish were really tasty.<br/><br/>The dessert needs a special mention here. The completely contrasting wide range of ingredients which you won't even think of mixing with an icecream actually prompted me to order this and it turned out to be one of the best desserts i have ever had so far. Do try it out.<br/><br/>Will keep going to try all their dishes

Went here for dinner for a gf's bday and I'm amazed I've never heard of this restaurant before specially since i walked past it a couple of weeks before but I'm glad I've tried it. The food was so good. The portions were a little smaller than other thai restaurants I've been to but the flavours was definitely there. We ordered the Pla dip and it was very cleansing in the palette and you can taste the flavour of the lime with the salmon. The fried chicken wings was nice amd crispy with a touch of spice. My favourite dishes were the seafood fried rice and the wok fried veggies. Both had so much flavour and the fried rice had the right amount of chilli kick. The seafood in the fried rice were perfectly cooked that it just melts in your mouth. My friend really liked the grilled fish curry wrapped in banana leaf and we also enjoyed the Moo krob pad prik khing. I was also surprised at our bill at the end. It was definitely great prices for the food we would come back for to eat again. Overall we all left satisfied and I would definitely go back to try out more of their dishes.

I've been to this place a few times and they have never failed to amaze my taste buds. Every time I go I order something different and it's been always amazing. The flavours and texture of the meat. They nail every single dish. I'm 😊😊😊 person after eating here.
Famishedduo
The waitress wasn't lying when she asked us if we can take chilli, and then asked again!! The most spiciest papaya salad we have had so far! But you just can't keep away from the dish. If you can't take extreme spice, order the twice cooked sweet and sour pork ribs to numb that pain. Highly recommend.

Find us on instagram: loveatfirstbite_aus<br/><br/> Khao Pla is a great Thai restaurant located in Chatswood opened by a chef who has worked in some of the leading Asian fusion restaurants in Sydney including Ms Gs, Spice I Am and Mr Wong. The space in this restaurant is not large so there is always a long line on weekends for dinner however we went earlier one night and managed to be seated without too long of a wait.

As a big fan of Thai food, this is absolutely my best Thai food experience in Sydney ever! <br/>The restaurant locates right outside the westfield in Chatswood, inner decoration is very stylish. <br/>The service is one of the best waiting team i have ever seen. Attentive and friendly, highly trained.<br/>The food is mind blowing!!! The spicyness in the spicy fried rice w seafood is sooo good! I normaly don't find anything "hot"/"chilly"/"spicy" really spicy but this one made my mouth burning! Tasttes really good! And even the calamari is tender, compared with other restaurants' rubbery taste.<br/>The fried chicken wing, I must say, can definitely qualify the best fried chicken in Sydney. It's a perfect combo of juicy inside and crunchy outside. And It Is Hot! Our dish sat on the table for ten minus before we eat, but it was still hot and tender! Amazing!<br/>The pork ribs wasnt my fave but my bf enjoyed it a lot. It's sweer and sour, the taste of honey and lime. The meat is really tender, marinated well, and perfectly cooked!<br/>Overal, it's the best experience i have had!<br/>

What a popular place! The staffs are flying here and there to serve. The Thai food have a special sweet and sour taste. Always have a great appetite. Recommend the dessert sticky rice.
Helen
Every night, there is a long queue. The food is nice and It worth waiting for 15 mins. Their pork ribs are sweet and special, the portion is enough for an Adult.

Best thai food in Sydney. Khao Pla steps away from the traditional plastic tasting Thai food you usually get and really delivers food thats big on flavour (oh that spice) and quality. Each dish is different and worth a try. Favourites have to be the crying tiger and spicy fried rice. We're regular diners and it's our go to for takeaway too (worth the drive!). <br/>It's a small place so sometimes hard to get a spot, but worth the wait (which is usually only 5mins or so).

Authentic and true to the expectation set by a simple but impressive menu.<br/>Definitely worth a couple of visits to try the extensive flavours.

I ordered chicken pad thai and fried chicken last week. The fried chicken was juicy and succulent and I enjoyed a lot. Definitely worth a try.

I dont normally hunt thai food. Khao pla, though, has me coming back again n again for more. Either for a quick dine-in or takeaways. These guys got me hooked. And i havent even gone thru all their offerings yet😆. Good times ahead (i hope). <br/><br/>Pla dip, salmon sashimi thai salad 4/5, gotta eat this to believe it. <br/><br/>Banana blossom 2.75/5, ok the only 'blemish' as was in chum tang, its friendly companion store, more down to personal taste. So shoot me.<br/><br/>Wok fried pla pad cha, fish fillet w ginger eggplant chilli basil kaffir lime 4.25/5, not a big fan of cilantro/eggplant. But again, khao pla just continues to defy my personal preferences😤. I can have this everyday. Btw they use a round raw type of eggplant; wren eggplant. Bite size, crunchy w a wee of bitter tinge at the end. <br/><br/>Khao pad cha, southern style prawn fried rice 4/5, sounds so simple. Was dithering between this n the sriracha fried rice but went w the lovely lady's recommendation. <br/><br/>Tom yum wings 3/5, ahhh a case of siblings' rivalry going on here. Chum tang has it hands down i am afraid but khao pla's version is still up there enough for me to re-order. <br/><br/>Review based on multiple visits, dine in n takeaways. Service can be patchy at times so if that's your thing, go away. Make the Q shorter here😜. <br/><br/>Menu changes from time to time. I hope head chef pla n team keeps up their excellent work, front n back👊🏼

Some say Khao Pla is Chatwood's answer to Chat Thai. I disagree. I think Khao Pla is on par with Chat, if not better. Helmed by former Ms G's chef, the popular Thai restaurant features a wide array of reinvented Thai dishes and popular classics. <br/><br/>I tasted their awesome tom yum wings (which taste almost similar to the ones I have at Ms G), green curry chicken and pad Thai chicken. The tom yum wings is subtlety spicy and savoury whereas the pad Thai is a flawless combination of wok hei and intensity. However, The green curry was milky and could be spicier. I will return to try their other awesome dishes!!

Amazing food, one of best budget thai food places in sydney. We ordered padthai, fried pork belly, red curry, chicken with basil. Everything was great. Will go back often to this gem. Its on a budget too.

Wow! This is probably one of my favourite Thai places so far. It can get very busy at night (eg 3hr waits) so I recommend coming for lunch as we did. I ordered the massaman curry and my friends ordered the pork ribs and pla pad cha. My dish was absolutely delicious. Best massaman I have had, I honestly can't fault it. I just would have liked a larger serving of meat as I've gotten more meat at other places. I tried the pork ribs and they were also delicious - they fell right off the bone. Absolutely delicious food!

Limited seating inside, however staff turned over tables relatively quickly. Be patient to wait in line if you intend to dine during peak dinner hour. Staff were attentive, portions were suited to share amongst 2 people. However, I felt like Khao Pla was a bit pricey. Does not remind me of home cooked Thai food, but perhaps a more modern twist for young adults, who were actually the majority of diners. (P.s. ask for less ice for the Thai milk tea if you're not a fan of a lot of ice!)

This is a very busy and relatively small Thai restaurant so prepare to wait during peak times. We ordered the Thai milk tea which was very good. The waiter warned us that the papaya salad (som tum) was quite spicy and she was right but it was tolerable and addictive. We also ordered the char grilled ox tongue (lin yang) which I highly recommended if you like ox tongue (the pieces are chunky rather than slices). The Massamun curry portion appeared small but it was quite filling and the beef was very tender. Overall, an enjoyable Thai dinner!

Just walked in with out any recommendation or reading reviews. Turned out to be an awesome place yummy food. Good vegetarian options. I tried sea food fried rice. Fresh sea food. Highly recommended.

Best Thai in Chatswood! It's good beyond the standard Pad Thai & Green Curries. The food were very flavoursome, great balance of sweet, tang, salt, and hot. We got the pork ribs, salt & pepper calamari & a pad si ew. Sounds standard, but the quality was not average at all. The pork ribs with a "sweet & sour" sauce, the meat was soft, juicy & sliding off the bone. It was not heavy to eat. The calamari was tender without being soggy, not oily & good level of saltiness. Both dishes went very well with the rice. Will definitely be back!

Had the safest option here - Thai Green Curry with steam rice. You can literally feel flavours of all the ingredients of the curry.<br/>Only downside is they accept credit cards for more than $25, which is unfair for single person without cash. They accepted card but charged 50 cents extra.
Rebecca
A great spot for thai in Chatswood. My issue is always what to order. This time it was the green papaya salad which comes with a spicy warning, the pork belly and the roti.

Amazing place to be in! This place is always full whenever you go. The food is yummy with good service. I always order the corn starter. I love this place as it has a wide range of vegetarian options. They serve with love which is the best part. Keep visiting this place. <br/>Service - 4/5<br/>Value for Money - 4/5<br/>

This place has absolutely amazing food!! Only downside is they are quite small and don't take bookings for less than 6 people. Every dish was packed with flavour. The tom yum was spicy but had such a great kick. Would highly recommend the fish wrapped in banana leaf - so soft and unique!

I've been here a few times and I always come back because the food is simple yet very tasty. But the thing I always get without fail is their "Black Sticky Rice" dessert that's served with some warm black sticky rice, some other yummy ingredients and a scoop of their amazing thai milk tea ice cream. So damn good!

Even though the price is a lil bit pricey and the portion is small but its definitely worth it! I really love their crying tiger and pork ribs❤
Jenny
We went there because the good review on Zomato. However, we were quite disappointed by the service and quality of food. The dishes were just salty and spicy, less of flavor. Service is so average. Wouldn't come back again.<br/>

Did not go in having a lot of expectations but the joint was not half bad. Service was good and even though we were in a big group they turned up with the food pretty quickly. <br/>The food by itself was above average. Most of the dishes were good and they did do special stuff for the vegetarians as well. The food portions were pretty big as well.<br/>All in all lovely place.
Karina
Delicious! All round excellent food and quick service. We had the green curry, Asian greens and crispy pork belly stir fry.... mmmmm! We will be back!

Khao pla and chum tang are both owned by the same person. But I prefer chum tang to khao pla for the tom yum goong dish. Lacking in sourness which is an important criteria in the sour salty and sweet balance of Thai dishes. Pad Thai was good. But I was really wanting a tom yum goong that could be as good as Bangkok. And chum tang came closer to doing this for me.
Bamkoori
staff is friendly but it's just too busy and crowded, they can't really much but give you endless signs to leave as soon as you finish your food. Thai can be spicy and salty and that's sometimes what I crave for - but here, it's too salty - feel sorry to my tummy
Will
Overrated if you ask me - I found the food pretty bog standard and really westernised considering it supposedly specialises in northern thai food. In my opinion it's not at all comparable with some of the great thai options in thai town on Campbell street.
Aileen
Northeast Thai style marinated, char grilled Wagyu striploin.<br/>Seriously, the BEST Thai marinated wagyu striploin in Sydney I've tried so far. Their wagyu was so tender! And the char taste was perfect. The sauce was spicy, sour and sweet but it leans towards spicy. It's definitely a good companion for the wagyu beef. You should really try this dish!<br/>Detailed review : grabandbites.blogspot.com.au/2016/11/khao-pla-chatswood.html

Used to be our fav Thai place but after a bad experience we have stopped. Servings have reduced. Only 3 pieces of chicken in a red curry. Too popular now

Yummy thai! My dish was a little on the salty side but still so delicious 😊😊 Definitely would recommend this place as a cheap eat in Chatswood!

After quite a long day of window shopping, my sister and her boyfriend decided to take me out to dinner. We went to Chatswood in search for a restaurant at around 8pm, which is quite a late time here to eat dinner since most establishments close at 6pm. Anyway, we ended up in this lane where Asian restaurants were in and I decided to eat at Khao Pla. The place was quite small but the ambiance of a thai restaurant was there. Their menu showcased a variety of recipies from Thailand with some that can be modified to your liking for people having a vegan diet. We ordered Crying Tiger, Tom Yum goong, and some pork belly. Service wise, they were quick to their toes and were very hospitable. After several minutes, food arrives, and we were very eager to dig in. Their crying tiger was excellent. Charred from the grill perfectly and combined with the sauce which had a tangy and a bit spicy, they made a perfect combination of flavor and texture. Their Tom yum quite exceeded my expectations among a lot of Thai restaurants abroad and I'd say one of the best ones I've tried ouside Thailand. The pork belly sauteed with spices and vegetables was also scrumptious, spicy, and flavorful. The texture of the pork belly's crispiness goes well with the soft leafy vegetables. I wished their serving was a bit bigger, but all in all, the experience was Thai-riffic!! Good job!!

Khao Pla a few years ago was really good, the food and service was wonderful. However in the last year the consistency has gone down hill and my partner and I have found the service recently really bad. We've been ignored and rushed and now prefer to just get the food to go. Would love for the service to return to its once friendly ways...

Good food. Good customer service. <br/>Good atmosphere. Good place. Reasonable price.<br/>Good location. Busy place <br/>............................................

Like their dishes. Just the pork ribs was a bit too sweet for me this time. The dessert with black sticky rice is highly recommended. BTW, This restaurant seems always busy, u have to wait if u arrived after 6pm.

I could remember going him with a close friend of mine, in what could probably only be described as the first legitimate foodie date I ever had. It was definitely a good one to start with. A place i often passed in Chatswood, but finally tried. <br/><br/>Could recall almost 1.5 years back, trying the chicken pad thai ($12) in this place which was a staple. A really safe option, made well, and definitely one I'd recommend to go for a Chatswood lunch date. Loved it and the atmosphere was good too, and not as bustling as I thought (which was good since space was quite small). Certainly a go to if you're in Chatswood for lunch. This photo was my humble beginnings haha ~~~

The papaya salad is deadly spicy, cant even finish it. however the waitiess did warn us it is hot, but we wasnt expect it to be that hot!!! also the dish came really slow at a normal Wednesday lunch time
Marcus
Usually good but ordered using menu log and got rice instead of calamari dish. Check your order if getting delivery! Need to get 140 characters to submit this review so padding out! Still a bit hungry...

It took us two times to get in (first time was super busy) and was worth the wait. The skewers are so so yummy. Was a bit disappointed with the pork belly, what ever it was coated in was not enjoyable. Will be back to try more on the menu.

It was my birthday about a month ago and as one of my bestest and closest couldn’t make my official birthday dinner he took me out a week prior. Win win for me, got to catch up with him and scored a free meal. The venue he chose was a Thai restaurant in Chatswood called Khao Pla, a venue I discovered was getting some online attention for being so bloody good. <br/><br/>We were not disappointed in the slightest - just WOW!!<br/><br/>Full review is now online so clickety click............

Great Thai lunch spot in Chatswood.  Sometimes you have to wait during busy times as it is pretty small inside.  The food is served quick with minimal fuss. Pay attention if you are told your dish will be hot/spicy (they really mean it!).  I absolutely loved the 'crispy bean curd with Tom yum spice salt'. Worth going there for that alone.  Make sure you try a dessert as well  - really good.  Enjoy!

I visited many years ago and recently went back. Mind blowing my good!<br/>Banana blossom salad was outstanding and a must-order!<br/>Pork belly with Chinese broccoli was great - more veg than pork belly but the pieces were crispy and not too spicy. <br/>Sticky ribs are also excellent but the serving size is best for 3 or more people. <br/>Can't wait to return and order another banana blossom salad!!
