Review Hurricane's Express - Chatswood

Odyssey L
Knowing what the quality is like in the original Hurricanes, this small express restaurant has been fantastic in sorting out our cravings for good whole rack Pork ribs. The servings have been fantastic and the team here at Chatswood very friendly and wait times are very fast. Will visit again!

Not a bad place for a quick meal. The tables and water glasses where not very clean. Greasy table and glasses all had stains and fluff left on them from drying towel. The prices and taste are ok but not the best burger in town. Staff were nice and friendly. The interior design is cool and relaxing. They do offer four pines beer ( from Manly) which is nice and unique. Surprised they did not have wedges as all cafes of this style do have it in their menu.

The chicken wings were delivered cold. The burger had a hair in it. The team did not believe it was hair, rather it was some kind of synthetic material. šŸ˜ Underwhelmed. The ribs were ok.

Burgers? Check. Ribs? Check. Ambiance? Check. Value for taste buds? Check. It's an Aussie staple for visitors, get your teeth on this meat and do not delay!

4.5 for food 4 for slow service If you have a hungry customer , walks in and order one of those mouth watering succulent ā€œ come and get meā€ burgers Patience will never be a virtue Overall great experience Need to come back for the ribs Great staff

I like my steaks. The one from this joint is ok. I had mine medium-rare, which is what I got. My only issue is the portion, which at 250gms, is a bit on the small side. Service is good. As is the place itself. I'll probably try the lunch special one of these days, like others have said....
Adam
Good looking establishment, speed of service far below expectations. Specifically in shopping centre environment where consumers like to pop out for quick lunch. Nothing quick here. Got to lift their game

I give one star because of the service, only thr service got my stars , the food is really not what I am expecting. Was not even on par with some of the cheaper steak and ribs that I had . Need to step up on your games , seriously the food is that bad . Some how manage to finish it .but won't be coming here again
FrenchieFoodie
Just a ā€œwhateverā€ restaurant nothing special. The ribs were ok, a bit too pricey for the quality, served small salad on the side. The burgerā€™s sauce tasted like a garlic bĆ©chamel. Chefs need to work on that, that was a bit gross. Service was ok too. Not interested in coming back

nice staff, good food and you have the option to sit inside or outside.<br/>the serving time is fairly quick and the meal comes nice and warm. <br/>pretty big portions so bring a friend to share!<br/>the sweet potato fries are a must-have
David
The food is ok but relative to ones in darling habour, it's not good quality. The ribs are very often burnt. Given their high price, I expect much better quality food.<br/><br/>Recently they changed few things and the service seems to be a lot better. However, I would expect same quality of food comparing to other stores. It feels like rip off when I buy from them when i get so much better quality food if i go other hurricane.
Sir And Mlady Dine Out
Walking in to Hurricanes in Chatswood you just know that you will get a great meal. There menu is extensive and the aromaā€™s wafting around the place are tantalising. To start our meal with drinks. Sir had one of his non-alcoholic ā€˜go-toā€™sā€ - sugar free coke and Mlady had one of her faves - a lemon lime and bitters.

Hurricane pork ribs can never go wrong. Ordered pork ribs, but these days just a little bit is enough for me. Wagyu burger is not too bad. This outlet got indoor and half-outdoor spot. Price still reasonable.

Excellent bustling little burger joint! Big massive burgers, lip smacking ribs and hot crisp fries . Good prices and has a great vibe! Highly recommended!
Eunifoodie
Their ribs are quite good and definitely would recommend the onion rings! Donā€™t bother getting the burgers...stick with just ribs and chips ahha
Luxx Food
I have to say I like this place only because it has my mouth watering pork ribs but I canā€™t say this is one of my favourite hurricane outlets.... I feel as though once they become busy, things get sloppy. I wasnā€™t a fan of the burgers, there was seriously something wrong with the one I ordered last time, had to chuck it out as it tasted funky, but ribs ribs ribs ribs ribs... thatā€™s all I can say
High Tea Queen
Ordered:<br/>1. Scotch fillet with sweet potato chips - I ordered medium well and it was cooked well, not excellent as there were areas that were too red for my liking, but good enough compared to other places. The steak were full of flavour. The sweet potato chips adds sweetness to the dish but their chips are way better than their sweet potato chips <br/>2. Pork ribs with chips - good flavour, the star ingredient is their chips, not too oily, chunky, long and not burnt. <br/><br/>Will I go back: yes, their staff are really friendly and helpful

Quite a nice place for ribs in Chatswood. Convenient location, with a nice outdoor eating area. Quick and efficient service.Ā <br/>Reasonably priced for this sort of cuisine.
Rob
Awesome ribs. First time having the Hurricanes BBQ sauce and it was fantastic.<br/><br/>The meat just comes off the bone.<br/><br/>Large portion size and good value.
Pignic_
Hurricane's has always had pretty good ribs and burgers. The restaurant itself is not too crowded which is good, meaning you don't have to wait in line for it. Would definitely recommend trying their sweet potato chips as well when you order some ribs! Super yummy!<br/><br/>Feel free to follow me on instagram @pignic_ for more foodie adventures.

Hurriance is famous for its grill meats, especially its house famous ribs. I had tried both. PORK ribs was finely cook, meat was juicy, tender, fall off the bones. BEEF ones was also great, more chewy. However, some parts was not well-marinated and hard to chew. Overall, it was comfort meal. Dont forget to have RIBS MANIA deals for $25( previously $20).
J
Burger was a generous serving size with perfectly cooked patty.<br/>Lunch burger special good value.<br/>Rest of menu is a little overpriced though.
MCHikari
Best burger in Chatswood. Never once disappointed each time on every visit. Go for the special cheesy mushroom burger & racks of ribs plus chips!

Love their Ribs!!!!!!!<br/>Absolutely yummy.<br/>Also love their steak tho.<br/>Good service and friendly staffs too. Will try their afternoon combo next time.<br/>
Sydney Foodie
Delicious BBQ ribs, chicken, burgers and salad. Staff are friendly and efficient. Orders and payment are not taken at your table but at the front counter. I would prefer that side salad comes with all meals to create more balanced meals.
Lin
amazing ribs and steak duo, pare well with a coleslaw salad, very refreshing , hurricane is like a casual dinning you 'll feel comfortable sit in
Alex.mcnee
Got takeout - the ribs and sweet potato chips were fabulous. Delivery took about 40 minutes on a Saturday night at peak time so can't complain. Would definitely order again!

Sydneyguyrojoe did mention the inconsistencies across the different outlets of Hurricane. This chatswood outlet is no different. When they opened a little over a year ago, the ribs were not up to their darling harbour restaurant standard. Over the next couple of visits, the beef ribs have improved markedly to the point that i always order them, unless the little monsters want the porky ribs at which time i tell them to pay for it themselves šŸ˜<br/><br/>By the way, they are running specials for half rib if i remember correctly.

Finger licking tasty ribs. Good value meals if you are hungry. Still prefer the ribs here. Burgers are big too. Hands down winning sweet potato fries
Sydneyeats_by_two
Situated on the side of the westfield shopping centre, we've walked past this place many times and decided to stop in for dinner. We had a steak with coleslaw and vege stack burger ($17.90). The burger was ok however I think the winner at this restaurant is hands down the meat dishes!! The steak was well cooked and the coleslaw good.
Chris
Steak was tough and full of inedible gristle. The poor excuse for a baked potato looked like something dug up from Gore Hill cemetery.<br/>Beer was not even icy cold. Very dissatisfied.
Cheah KM
My favorite ribs here is the Pork Ribs which is soft and meaty. But the same can't be said for the beef ribs which I just took yesterday as meat was abit tough. I highly recommend the Hurricane's Onion Rings which is fantastic.
Queenie K
Great for satisfying big hungers! My partner and I ordered a full rack of pork ribs that comes with a side of chips, mushroom sauce and 2 coronas. Will definitely be back again!
2hungryysisters
The ribs were absolutely amazing, saucy, sticky and the meat was to tender. Definitely would always eat them. However I also ordered a burger and was heavily disappointed... The meat was overcooked (almost burnt) and dry. It was so hard to chew, I couldn't eat it. I would only eat the ribs.

Hurricane's at Darling Harbour would have to be my favourite place for ribs so it's such a shame that when they decided to open an outlet in Chatswood, it was an "express" store. Chatswood easily has the demographic to support a full restaurant so it was strange they opted for this concept here. This is not the first time I've been here to the Chatswood restaurant but the prices have never sat well with me even though it is cheaper than their non express restaurants because of the comfort level.Ā <br/><br/>My main gripe is the location itself. The store is located at Westfield and has street access. The outdoor seating is like sitting next to the road with cars constantly passing and the occasional hoon roaring down the road (although admittedly furnished well with what they have) and there are shoppers walking past constantly. The indoor seating is pretty much inside the shopping centre so ambience is minimal and you cannot compare it with their darling harbour restaurant. Therefore, when you pay almost $100 for two people, it doesn't equate to the kind of experience you expect.<br/><br/>For some reason the pork ribs are ALWAYS dry and never charred enough. I have come here on at least 5 occasions and not once has this improved although I have tried to fix this by requesting "well done" or "charred" but it has improved the charring but not the dryness of the meat. Strangely enough, the beef ribs have been cooked very well most of the time being juicy and nicely charred. The sauces and flavours are as expected with the Darling Harbour one and the chips are cooked well. We have had burgers on several occasions and they are cooked well although a bit on the small side.<br/><br/>What is good is the service as the staff are well hired being attentive and friendly. Unless I have a mega craving for ribs and couldn't be bothered travelling, I would come here. Otherwise, I would have no problems travelling to the Darling Harbour restaurant where I have always been impressed with the food and seated in a comfortable environment.

We tried the current promotion at Chatswood only "rib mania" (half rack of ribs and chips) for $20. The ribs were very tasty and just melted off the bone. You order at the counter and grab a table. The wait staff will bring your order to you.

I went to dinner with a couple of friends to this 'fast food' version of their regular restaurants. They don't take bookings and bascially you rock up, order at the counter then go find a table yourself. They do bring you your meals though ;) Food is alright, similar to the restaurants and rib is always a fav and must have. But for the price I'm paying, personally I prefer their regular Hurricanes restaurants with wait service. Having said that, the staff were pleasant and just let us be (we chatted for hours). It's a nice casual dinning place, just a tad pricey for what its worth. I would return when my craving for ribs calls though! :)
Jam
An absolute favourite. its a great place to get a quick mouth-watering feast. The burgers are FAT, FRESH and that Hurricanes sauce is to die for. šŸ‘Œ Wish the chips had a larger serving for their price. The service is tops with those electronic beepers that let the staff bring the food to you, which means you can sit wherever you want. The price is fair for an occasional treat.

Had dinner here this evening (26th November 2015). First time here and I ordered the $20 rib mania. Wow. I highly recommend their beef ribs. Very nicely done. I was so busy with my food that I didn't take a picture for you. Highly recommend this place!
Claire
Ordered beef ribs + chils $20 set. Pretty good deal for one person. Tasted really good. Pork ribs was a bit lacking since there was hardly any meat not worth $30 bucks just for half a rack. A bit overpriced.

In search of a hearty meal and some tasty ribs after a day of studying for our final exams, we headed to Hurricaneā€™s Express in Chatswood!. Hurricaneā€™s BBQ Pork Ribs are, in my opinion, the best ribs available in Sydney! We had to order a set, and chose the sweet potato chips as a side. It was so delicious, and we quickly devoured the whole set. The tantalising sweet and tangy flavour of the thickly coated BBQ sauce invites you to lick your fingers once each rib is consumed, and there was a substantial amount of tender meat on the ribs as well.

Create your own special burger by adding topping(cheese, bacon etc)!! I came here for lunch with my friend. I had Wagyu burger with Mushroom sauce. They were totally matched! Yummy! They do fresh tasty salad too so you are able to eat lot's of meat and veggies. Be healthy:)<br/><br/>I'd like to come back for RIB next time.haha

Decent place to have a nice lunch/dinner! We came here last week and ordered a Pretzel burger and a Boerewors roll and both were tasty and pretty filling. The regular sweet potato chips however were tiny so definitely get the large size if you're sharing. The service was pretty quick and the seating outside was nice. <br/><br/>We didn't get the ribs this time but they're far too expensive to be worth the money. Aside from a select few menu items this place is kinda pricey. Overall pretty good, and an okay price for a dinner for two if you're not getting ribs :)

When we arrived, the place was packed with new curious diners, as well as old loyal followers. It was a busy bustling night, the cash registers worked non-stop. There are three options for the ribs, you can choose either from the pork, the beef or the lamb. We personally think pork ribs are the tastiest out of the three. The smell of the sweet BBQ sauce and gorgeously charred slabs of ribs glistened under the light, beckoned us to dive in. Perhaps it was the cold weather and the rain. Our ravenous appetites surfaced immediately Ā :)

Had an amazing time here with my friends. I do prefer Hurricanes as a sit down and get served restaurant over this express style but the food was decent nonetheless. I felt like it was very Nandos-esque as you order your food, grab cutlery and water yourself and find your own table. It took away from my amazing experience at Hurricanes in Harbourside and made the brand seem much more casual and fast food like. If I was looking for Hurricanes I think I will stick with the ones with table service. Their sweet potato fries are must try though!

Fantastic Rib quality with speedy service and onion rings to die for ! The portion sizes are fantastic and a good family feel, also can't forget the great tunes whoever made the playlist needs a medal

When I say ribs, a lot of people would think hurricanes. The hurricane express in Chatswood offers ribs and burgers and salads. The quality of the ribs are juicy and tender meat. I especially liked their sweet potato chips along with my ribs.

Many friends and acquaintances of mine have mentioned/hyped/bragged about Hurricane more than any other ribshouse I've heard about before. The last time I went to the more formal Hurricane restaurant was around five years ago. As someone from Perth on a Sydney work trip, I was excited that there was a Hurricane Express eatery nearby where I stayed in Chatswood. <br/><br/>The place was called Hurricane's Express and by the name it looks like the smaller version of the flagship franchise found near the harbour. Contrary to what the name may imply there was plenty of tables and seats both inside and outside.<br/><br/>Ordered the half rack of lamb with baked potato. The portion was quite large and the lamb was very tasty. Didn't feel like the lamb was too fatty which was a good thing and the bakes potato was large and enjoyable. For a "half portion" this really felt like a full blown meal. Service was satisfactory, food didn't take too long to come out.<br/><br/>Definitely satisfied with the meal and enjoyed it enough to come back and try something else.

{ _anne_with_an_e // review }<br/>This express outlet is more of a casual dining experience compared to the restaurant down by the harbour. The dĆ©cor has a relaxed vibe and seating is a plenty here, both inside and out. However, it still does get full and busy, particular during dining rush hours. Thereā€™s a self-service water station, sauce station, plus a kitchen sink! Theyā€™re certainly thinking of the customers here.<br/><br/>When you think of Hurricaneā€™s, you think of their lip-smackingly good ribs. I canā€™t go past ordering the pork rack, uber tasty! However, I find that sometimes it lacks consistency ā€“ in basting, portion size and tenderness.<br/><br/>For the sides Iā€™d definitely go for the sweet potato fries. Theyā€™re crunchy, delicious and moreish. And quite possibly one of the best sweet potato fries Iā€™ve had so far.<br/><br/>Must haves // pork ribs, sweet potato fries<br/>Pros // funky dĆ©cor, sauce station<br/>Cons // busy, inconsistencies<br/><br/>Food: 4/5<br/>Ambience: 4/5<br/>Service: 4/5

Hurricane's Express does darn good BBQ pork ribs. Their sweet potato fries are incredible too. Our two favourite sauces would have to be the creamy mushroom sauce and oddly enough, the Monkey Gland sauce which has an added sweetness. There's a lot of self service at Hurricane's and it's always very busy which makes it hard to secure a seat but that's what you expect with the "Express" service.

Over priced and lacks quality, been to Ryde one and its much better<br/>Thje Burgers were just acceptable<br/>Lacks quality and real taste, wentb along with family at the insistance of a friend and spent over $40 a head for food I can get at a fast food chain,Ā  grossly overprices
Wykeith92
Disgusting burgers. The buns are cold and hard, and patty is dry, overcooked and burnt. Absolute rip off. Worst burger I've tasted.
Iranny26
Great service!. Ordered a rump steak and chips, had a little bit of a mix up which ended up being my fault but the staff there didn't hesitate and fixed the problem straight away. Great service, great food!!!

Yummy Food. Love the fresh salads, especially the chicken. My husband loves the ribs though...

Hurricaneā€™s Express is unlike the one in the city where you have to queue up for a long time because , as the name suggest, it is EXPRESS and thatā€™s what I love about it ā€“ you donā€™t need to wait too long for, well, anything!
DroolWorthyWorld
LeeLoo and Tommy H are avid fans of Hurricanes having visited the various branches around Sydney from Darling Harbour to Bondi and now Chatswood. Hurricanes Express is your fast food version of the usual semi-fancy sit down meal at Hurricanes. Itā€™s designed to be exude a casual modern diner feel.

Last week was Hurricane's grand opening at Westfield's in Chatswood. Tonight was perhaps the most anticipated dinner for this week. I've got ribs on my mind!Ā  The new Hurricane's Express is located at the newly revamped Anderson 'Eat' Street. There are ample indoor & 'outdoor' seatings, and they're spacious enough to fit all the North Shore baby prams. Mothers' groups converge around this place in the mornings for catch ups; families & friends meet here for dinner in the evenings, and the young restless teenagers gather here after a movie at night.Ā  When we arrived, the place was packed with new curious diners, as well as old loyal followers. It was a busy bustling night, the cash registers worked non-stop. There are three

This place is getting slammed. Probably doesn't deserve such a beating. Even if it's not proper Hurricanes it's still decent enough to tide us over until Ribs and Burger opens
Lauragoldberg
Perfect everytime. I love my local Express and the burgers are great. However the steak roll has to be the best item on the menu!! Yum and yum

Nothing like Bondi Hurrican'es Express. When I found out there was a hurricanes express in chatswood i was super excited. My local store is bondi beach. I went there with a friend last night because the $10 junior burger and chips meal is such good value. <br/><br/>this is not true at chatswood. the burgers were very small with barely any sauce and salad. the chips were tasteless - they had no hurricanes seasoning!! and there was no pineapple extra for the burger.<br/><br/>not going there again. go to bondi beach hurricanes express for 10/10 satisfaction

Scales on the salmon burger. Ate here a week ago, ordered a salmon burger. Found a bone and a clump of scales (at least 15-20) on the skin of my salmon fillet. Brought it up with the waitress, she checked with the kitchen and said "we're sorry about the bone, but the scales are meant to be there"<br/>1. If the scales are meant to be there, why bother scaling the fish at all? <br/>2. Who orders a salmon burger and expects there to still be scales on the salmon? They were very obvious and hard.
Eunice.shan
Steak sucks. Ate at hurricane express thinking it will serve the same standard as the restaurant but I was gravely mistaken. Steak was not cooked medium rare and even after complaining and getting a change, it tasted so tough, bland and not juicy reflecting the low standard. Please visit darling harbor branch if you're looking for quality steak.
Mandragara
Cold and overly sweet.. The 'express' model they use only works if they're very busy, otherwise you get served cold food that was cooked half an hour ago in anticipation of a customer that didn't arrive. Also the glaze on the ribs was far to sweet for my tastes, I imagine it suits an American palate.<br/><br/>Overall I'd recommend you order a burger, cheaper and warmer than the ribs.
Spam
Tasteless. Tried hurricanes for the first time tonight. <br/><br/> ordered ribs medaly, mix of lamb, beef & pork ribs. If it wasn't for the shape wouldn't have known all tasted the same.... Bland with a charcoal chaser. <br/><br/>Food was served super fast... To fast in less than 2min, so ribs are obviously not cooked to order just sitting around waiting for some poor customer to order the blandness that they are. <br/><br/>$50 for really poor quality ribs, no sides and cramped seating... <br/><br/>If you don't care about the taste of your food eat here, everyone else go somewhere else
Youshi
Overpriced with bad quality. Not back
J.foxman
AMAZING. I ordered beef ribs they were awesome the service was outstanding can't wait to come back highly recomended .
Manureetkaur
Poor quality, tasted like plastic. Went to hurricanes chatswood for the first time with a friend last night. I expected a lot better. Quality of food was absolutely terrible. Steak tasted like plastic and the ribs had no flavour. This whole express thing isn't working because the line to wait to order is right in the middle of where the waiters need to walk through. Staff had a bad attitude. Will not go there again nor recommend it
Andrew
Bang for buck .... Well priced for a family but we only eat ribs and burgers so can't comment on steaks...<br/><br/>The kids meals are a good size version of the adults not a poor quality product like some places have for kids..<br/><br/>Service was good food was great...I mean its not an up market restaraunt nor are they pretending to be with there price point or decor...<br/><br/>Have eaten there twice now and will be back for sure
Foodie1987
Disappointed with the ribs....Will not go back. Went there for work lunch today and have to say that the food was average and not of good quality. The ribs tasted like they were twice cooked or just heated up. The staff were rude. Will not be going back.
Jmanchatty
Same great tasting ribs as the other hurricane grill franchises, best ribs in chatswood! Don't try anything else bit the ribs and you won't be disappointed!
Lindfield Lilly
Top prices for ordinary food. The kids realy wanted to try this place, so we decided to go, the prices are over the top, the steaks all seem to be have some glazing that I found to be not so nice, my husbands steak came almost cold... It seems there is no real love for food in this place, only hurried service to shove you along..
Bunnyjann
Bad experience. Expensive burnt and bad quality steaks....what a disappointment.
