Review Melting Pot Bar & Bistro - Chatswood

Part of the mantra hotel. Open for both dinner and breakfast. Offers a good buffet style breakfast and excellent dinner options. The sirloin steak with mushroom gravy is excellent.

We were a group of 4, looking forward to our dinner date at Melting Pot a firm favourite with us all. As we have been here multiple times and have had wonderful food experiences. Alas tonight to our dismay it was the worst experience of food we have all had in a long time in a restaurant. From the dead black lettuce in the cuttlefish salad, which proudly housed 4 tiny bits of cuttlefish, to the absolutely stone cold chips, the mixed salad that was just dead mixed lettuce leaves drizzled with balsamic, The lamb cutlets raw, cold to the core and smelt off, accompanied by a ratatouille that was so bland and tasteless with chunks of uncooked onions and capsicum, served with again a gritty, cold mash. One of our group had ordered the sirloin steak that must have been microwaved first then thrown on a grill as it not only was rock hard but dry as cardboard. Desserts arrived with the spiced pear being absolutely black in colour and completely inedible. The coconut pannacotta looked more like a sago in texture and again completely tasteless. We made the waiting staff aware of our disappointment at the nights dining. They were embarrassed at our complaint and assured us the chef would be advised. Where is the hotel manager in these instances? And why aren't customer complaints handled with more interest. We do not make a habit of complaining if food is acceptable but this dining experience was an insult to any hardworking customer looking for a relaxing night out with friends!!!

8 adults 2 children the best night out in a long time, did not know this Bistro exhisted tucked away a bit. Waiters could not do enough for us, proportions extremely generous, wine delicious, decor refreshing, fabulous Friday night out celebrating 2 birthday.

Many a meal here. Kids meals sometimes a little slow to arrive. But all food is good and wine in generous glasses. Menu changes enough you can visit more often. They also do takeaway coffee in their off hours. Update: Now changed their name from Zipp to Melting Pot Bar and Bistro. Went there again for a Groupon deal and they were as good as before and looked after kids better than before.

Bartender had no idea. Gave me the cheat sheet instead of the cocktail list, used Malibu instead of white Rum for a mojito then told me I'm not doing myself any favours when I told him Malibu is not the correct ingredient for a mojito he was belligerent and rude in the nicest possible way not even mentioning the HALF AN HOUR wait for the not mojito. The Stella has also been out for over a week now.

We wanted a place to discuss over beer. Was nice and quiet (no loud music). Tempura prawns were good.

Friendly staff, fair selection of drinks, nice decor, usually fairly quiet as it's off the main road. Would recommend.

A place to sit for a while enjoy a drink or three or a coffee or two, enjoying a snack and admire the passing trade.

We were a group of 4 that from entree to dessert were served sub standard food. We are not a whinging group who likes to pick holes in things but a group who was out on a Friday night looking for an end of week catch up and a nice dinner. From the black, slimy lettuce, minuscule pieces of dry hardened cuttlefish entree., to the raw, cold lamb cutlets accompanied by big chunks of raw onion and red capsicum under the guise of a ratatouille. Grainy chunky mash, stone cold fries on a plate with a microwaved sirloin steak that then hit a hot plate for colour and had the texture and taste of hardened cardboard!! To the supposedly "spiced pear", dessert that came out jet black in colour and was not only totally inedible but you couldn't even relate the taste to anything you knew in your flavour palette! The staff were embarrassed and really didn't know how to react. When asked to see someone in authority.. no one was around. This used to be a very nice dining destination for us all in the past but last nights dining was beyond bad.!!!

Bought an Ouffer voucher and gave it a try. Steak was really tough even we prefer to cook to medium-rare, salmon was way overcooked and a bed of blanched chinese vegetables come with the salmon was soft, flavourless, watery and disgusting. We ordered spiced pear for dessert and it was a disaster, it tastes so weird. It's like a poached pear soaks into black inky like medicine. The star anise overpowers the entire dish, it tastes extremely strong and bitter. The only positive thing was the entree, the aranchini balls were tasty in comparison. I really hope they know what they are doing.

Apart from waiting an hour for the food and ending up with a massive bill, the restaurant is located in a nice and quite part of Chatswood. Came here 3 times with my friends. Food was to a high standard, especially the deep-friend prawns... mmm.

I went a couple nights before with the girls. I enjoyed the food there although it was seemingly overpriced, the wait was also long, however the food was of good standard.

An expensive restaurant wannabe.
When we entered, it took longer than expected for a waiter to acknowledge us.
We ordered the Scallops and Chorizo choosing the main course size, but when it was placed in front of us, all we could see is an entree-sized dish. The difference? You pay $22 for 3 scallops and 3 slices of chorizos (as you can see in the photos) OR you can pay $32 for 5 scallops and 5 slices of chorizos.
Melting Pot, you are far, far away from the likes of any restaurant that deserves to charge their steak for $29.

The paella's taste resembled watered down sauce and unfortunately it was the only dish we ordered that was close to a standard size of a main.

After leaving Melting Pot, we went straight to the nearest restaurant for more food.

Walking into Melting Pot, I was greeted with a wonderful and attentive host for the night. Candles were set, lights were out and wine glasses ready. This place knows how to set an atmosphere. My belly was ready...
