Review Phood - Chatswood

Really delicious, generous serving sizes. The grilled lemongrass pork with rice flour rolls was so, so good!! Packed with flavour and so filling! My partner ordered the beef pho, which was also tasty but VERY spicy. I tried a only tiny bit of the broth and it left my mouth tingling for an hour. Thankfully, I had my delicious crushed pineapple drink to help me cool off. They also serve a coconut drink in an actual hollowed out coconut, which is pretty fun.

Great combination beef pho, although a bit pricey at $20.80 dine in (as of April 2022). It’s a decent sized portion but a higher proportion of meat is required - there were a few slices of thick cut flank, two half sized meatballs, and one piece of tendon. Broth was good, not the best, but flavourful. Prompt service, clean and tidy restaurant, and pleasant environment. There’s some Chinese style dishes on the menu and the servers speak English and Cantonese.

Pricey. Wide selection of food including some that we know are NOT vietnamese style. Each dish is averagely $20 which is at the high end. Somehow my husband likes the food here. But not a place to go often :)

Phood has one of the most homely and relaxing atmospheres from a restaurant in Chatswood. Not only are the staff accommodating and friendly but the food is spectacular. The pork chops were some of the most succulent, juicy and flavoursome pork that I've had in a long time. The pho was good and my partner seemed to slurp it up happily. The serving sizes are quite large and you will definitely be rolling out of the restaurant when you leave.

Watched the price jumping from 18 dollars to $24 dollars for a bowl of pho, used to recommend this restaurant to my friends who love Vietnamese food, but not anymore, I came in today, and they served mint leaves instead of basil with the combination beef noodle soup, I asked for Basil, the waitress said basil is “out of season” how refreshing, treating customers like they are idiots. Instead of fresh chopped chilli, they use some old marinated chill, the soup came warm not even hot, today is my last visit, $24 dollars pho, seriously, go somewhere else.

Friendly team serving tasty Vietnamese dishes without breaking your wallet. My go-to is always their Stir-fried Beef Noodle Rice Soup. Their rice dishes and stir-fried noodles are also amazing, so if you're in Chatswood and is craving for a good Pho, just pop right in Archer Street and enjoy the Phood!

My favourite spot for the crab tomato noodle soup Vietnamese classic! Always comes out piping hot with generous ingredients. Perfect comfort food.

Not authentic Vietnamese at all and definitely more of a Chinese restaurant with Vietnamese dishes… the food wasn’t the worst, but the phó chicken broth was like Chinese clear soup. Extremely pricey too, both dishes we ordered were $19.80 and $20+! Would’ve been better driving to Bankstown or Cabra from Chatswood instead! If the prices were more reasonable, could probably justify it, but not when these outrageous prices. Probably the worst part of the experience and biggest red flag was the Chinese music playing in the background 😂

Love love love this place! Might be my favourite pho place in all of Sydney! The combination beef pho is so flavoursome and not too salty, the portion size is great, the noodles are perfect and soft, the beef is tender, the tendon melts in your mouth...I can’t fault it. So good! The price of their combination beef pho is on the higher side at $17-18 but it’s worth it! I’ve been here multiple times and the service is always so lovely! Such a cute little family restaurant. Would highly recommend this place the next time you have a craving for pho in Chatswood! Also they do take card!

This place does a really nice Pho Soup. I normally get the beef combination which is brisket and raw beef and it hits the spot everytime.

A little bit on the exy side for what it is but it is always nice, fresh and filling. Plenty of seating and it is always packed. Must come back and try the other traditional Vietnamese dishes.

The beef noodle soup is very disappointing. The price is relatively high compared with other Vietnamease restaurants.

Never coming back here again. To start: I found a slug in my food. I was disgusted but not angry at this stage. When I told the waitress she just laughed and wasn't apologetic at all and neither was the manager nor did she try to rectify this and just took the plate away. When it came to paying the bill, she didn't offer a discount and actually had the audacity to get mad at me for being upset at the situation. Unbelievably rude staff.

Came here for a weekday lunch. The service was friendly and fast. We tried the stir-fry Pho and the salt and pepper tofu. Both came out quickly and tasted very good. We were stuffed after, so sharing is the best option here. A great place for lunch with friends.

Just ate here because some friends recommended it. Service was quite average, ordered the pork and wonton rice noodle soup. All I received was a bowl of noodles a few wontons and about 2 pieces of pork. They advertise it on the picture with a lot more thoroughly disappointed...

Been back twice for the bun bo hue, the soup has a subtle seafood stock with a hint of lemongrass flavour. Its a good option if you getting bored from a normal beef pho. Price is quite expensive $16.80.
Portion is ok, could be more filling and noodles, soup is very full.

Come here quite often and usually get beef noodle soup. I think around 15 dollars. Soup taste very good, good filling portion size, nice amount of beef pieces. Would come again. The dish comes fast, and the environment is cozy.

Phood glorious phood - got you singing this song yet? Well this is certainly not English "phood" but it is good Vietnamese food. This popular Vietnamese restaurant sits in a quiet street of the main hustle and bustle of Chatswood. It's a surprisingly big place with nice décor and a warm homey feel. It certainly welcomes you.

Used to come here a bit in their previous incarnation as Golden Bo. Now the sign might have changed from the outside, and the paintings on the wall refreshed, but it's still essentially the same menu and run by same people. Super busy on Friday night, we waited a few minutes before even getting noticed by anyone, then have to wait again for a table to be cleared. I normally go for a pho or some sort of noodle soup, but this time ventured a bit & got the Vietnamese crispy pancake. The dish look pretty much per the menu, but the pancake itself was too thin & fragile, not crispy and impossible to hold together. Everything just fell to bits and I ended up eating it with knife & fork. Inside the pancake were some small prawns, few bits of spam, lots of sprouts. Not be best Vietnamese pancake in taste or price value. My friend stuck with the pho and enjoyed her meal.

Ordered:
1. Lemon grass pork chop (4/5) - I can eat a whole plate by myself plus Pho, and I usually don’t like to eat much meat, this says something about how good this dish is
2. Pho - average to good (3.5/5)
3. Three colour iced drink (3.5/5) - sweet which compliments the salty dishes

Will I go back: yes and this restaurant feels cleaner than those at Eastwood and city

Excellent selection of Vietnamese food and very spacious for groups or families with children.
Highly recommend their Beef noodle soup (Pho) we’ve been going back for their soup many times and will continue to do so! Good job guys.

My favourite Viet place in the north shore. And thank god it's here so I don't have to drive to Cabramatta for Viet food fix. Their salads are fresh and flavours on point, especially the lemongrass chicken/beef/pork - just delicious! The pho is a bit too sweet for my palate (I still prefer Xic Lo). The duck curry is thick, generous and delicious. The crispy duck is to die for especially when ordered as a set with the rice noodle soup. I now come here almost once a week. In this summer heat, Phood is perfect.

This is the first and last time for us going there. The pho was really terrible. The soup was tasteless and it wasnt hot. The coconut is not even fresh coconut. They actually reuse the coconut and add syrup and serve again! We actually saw empty coconut in the chiller and the staff in the kitchen immediately shut the door when he saw we were looking in the kitchen. I wouldnt go back there again.

As good as pho gets in the North Shore (can’t compare with pho in the West, but it’s still decent)
Meat and noodles were pretty generous, will probably return when I can’t be bothered to travel for pho

This joint has been around forever, needless to say we have been coming here forever😁.

Our go-to dishes have mostly been their grilled lemon grass pork chop w rice or vermicelli, sliced roast duck (boneless) w rice spaghetti (in soup), fish cakes to munch on while waiting for mains, crispy fried chicken w rice or egg noodles and of course their thinly sliced raw beef w rice noodles in soup. Always left with happy tummies after eating here.

This was great! :) Perfect for a post-gym meal on a rainy cold day. Staff were welcoming and friendly, easy to get a hold of. I chose the classic pho tai to see how it would do compared to some of the other places I've been, and I must say I'm impressed! Though a bit more pricy (to be expected in Chatswood), the basil, bean sprouts and chilli were fresh and sprightly. The soup broth was flavoursome and just the right amount of salty. Complementary oolong. This is going to become one of my faves 'pho' sure ;)

Golden Bo is your classic Vietnamese/Chinese restaurant before all the trendy places popped up around Sydney and Chatswood. You tend to come here more for the Vietnamese dishes than the Chinese dishes as this is where they shine most. You would normally find this type of restaurant out west where they serve unpretentious good old fashioned Vietnamese cuisine. The only issue is the 'Chatswood premium' you pay being approximately 20% more than out west so it sits uncomfortable in this regard. However, this is not the west so you become resigned to that fact if you choose to eat here.

I have frequented GB many times in the past and think their non soup dishes are far better than their soups.

Com Tam Dac Biet - Grilled pork chop combination with rice. The Pork is marinated perfectly with hints of lemongrass and honey, char grilled well while the meat is still moist. It's served with steamed rice, fried egg, bei hoe (shredded pork skin), cha truing (steamed meatloaf/egg omelette) and salad. The Bei Hoe was dry and had a great chewy texture and flavour. The Cha Trung was not hard like most and had a good balance of egg, vermicelli, dried woodear mushroom that had the new omelette fluffiness. The nuoc cham (dipping sauce) was the standard fare and lacked a bit of lime but nevertheless enhanced the dish sufficiently. Overall, an excellent dish where every single element was cooked well.

Banh Cuon Cha Lua - Steamed rice flour noodles with minced pork and woodear mushroom filling. The noodles were steamed well being translucent and retaining a bouncy texture and not too oily like many tend to be. It was served with cha lua (pork loaf) cooked bean sprouts, mint and salad and topped with fried shallots. Another traditional dish done well not skimping on quality or the many elements it comes with.

Another tick for Gold Bo is the proper bird's eye red chilli they use where the heat is intense and the way it's suppose to be!

Price is a little on the high side but portion was decent. Quality of food was average.

Won't be a place I would go out of my way to dine, unless my cravings for a pho hits an all time high.

One thing you will notice about Golden Bo after flipping through the menu, are the above average prices. Compared to most Vietnamese restaurants you can expect to pay a couple dollars more for each dish. I can't remember the exact cost, but I'm pretty sure it has gone up from the current menu on Zomato even. However, they are generous with the serving sizes so that does make up for it, and most likely you will leave full or content.

Food has always been pretty good, and I don't think I've ever been terribly disappointed with any dish. Service is also a bit better than your standard Asian place. It's difficult to expect amazing Vietnamese in Chatswood to be honest, and I don't even try. So if it tastes decent and everything else somewhat matches up, I'll still go. Sometimes you might be in the neighbourhood and feeling like some pho or vermicelli noodles, this can't be helped. Then Golden Bo isn't all too bad of an option. I just know I won't be stepping in if I'm just after a light, cheap meal.

My 'go to' for Viet in Chatswood. If you aren't comparing the food to Flemington or Cabramatta, then it is definitely my go to Vietnamese place on the North Shore.

Love their Vermicelli salads and pho!!
Hungry.
Not gluten free friendly. I understand there being limited options for coeliacs when dining out, that's why I always speak to the wait staff when ordering. Dining with some friends, we decided to share a few dishes- and made sure they were all gluten free.

Out of the five dishes ordered, all had gluten (luckily one had soy sauce on the side so I was able to eat a rice paper roll). The waitress even brought a dish to the table THEN informed us that it had flour throughout. Other dishes had soy in the sauce or deep fried tofu in the soup that were not identified by the kitchen or wait staff as containing gluten.

I don't mind waiting for the wait staff to speak to the chefs as I don't expect anyone to know all the gluten containing items on the menu. But even having done this, I hope for a certain level of care to be taken for customers medical conditions. The staff were not at all apologetic and even a little rude.

Worst Dining Experience. The waiters were absolutely horrendous and ill mannered. According to my friend, they have a tendency to spit in customers' dishes.
The food was disgusting, and there was barely anything in it. I'd never go there again, and I urge anyone reading this to do the same.

We used to come to Golden Bo all the time because it closes late. It also has an extensive menu of popular Vietnamese dishes. The atmosphere in here is better than most Asian restaurants and their food is decent. However, the price is also slightly on the higher end for a casual Asian restaurant. VN sour soup with rice vermicelli with chicken , $12.8. Roast duck with rice spaghetti with soup , $12.8. Herbal camomile tea.

Whilst not being particularly cheap or comparable with, say, anywhere in Cabramatta, it is decent. 2 hours closer for us and perhaps slightly more consistent than the Lemon Grove place (although that's tastier when they're on their game).

Just go there. Delicious food (lot of choice), affordable, comfortable sitting. I often go there and would recommend it to anyone.

Had to wait for ages to be served. Virtually nothing on the menu that doesn't contain MSG. The food was ok when it arrived but the red date and longan tea was undrinkably sweet. The overall vibe is that they couldn't care less about you. Just a machine pumping out semi pre made formulaic meals.

Overpriced. Food is average

The style of Vietnamese here is unique. Went here with work and had most delic long banquet of Asian food ever.!
Fishisnotavegetable
Miserly protein. Ordered the tofu sizzling hotplate (which I might add is the most expensive vegetarian option on the menu), and while the flavours were excellent there was a very miserly 3 cubes of protein in the entire dish

My wife on the other hand had sliced duck with flat rice noodles, which was awesome and the duck plentiful....can't really work out why given duck surely costs more than tofu, yet the duck dish was cheaper than the hotplate?

Straight forward menu. Crispy chicken was tender, food fast to table. One of the better Viet/Chinese low cost in Chatswood
