Jim’s Malaysia is one of my favourite Malaysian eat outs. I’m a big fan of noodle soup and they have a great variety of choices with flavoursome soup; as well as your seasonal desserts.
Hawker Lane in the Westfield has great atmosphere and lots of choice if you’re looking for Asian cuisine. If you’re lucky, you’ll pick a day that isn’t too busy and you can find a table.
I ordered the crispy chicken laksa on the server’s recommendation. She also told me that there was a 10 minute wait. I think she was friendly, helpful, honest and polite.
The laksa was good. Decent serving size with plenty of noodles. The level of flavour and spice was as expected. The chicken was crispy and served on the side to maintain the crispness.
Price is a little higher than other places in Hawker Lane. A few dollars less would make it better value for the dish.
Would happily order this again.
I love Malaysian food so I was hoping to check out Jim's Malaysia as I have seen a lot of tasty looking photos in their Instagram. I had the king prawn curry laksa and a curry puff. Both were really yummy! The laksa broth was quite thick with great flavor and not too spicy. Curry puff had a flaky exterior which I love! The filling was slightly bland (not sure whether it's because I had it after the flavorsome laksa broth) but wouldn't mind getting another one but I actually bought the last one. Will be back!

Definitely one of the better places to eat in Hawkers lane. The food is of a decent quality with a price range to match. The service is pretty responsive when all factors are taken into account with the amount of people eating
I've been eating at the same udon place like three times in a row whenever I went to Chatswood so insisting on going to Hawkers Lane this time was a refreshing decision. The koay teow at Jim's Malaysia was honestly the only menu item in the whole food court that I was interested in, and so I ordered it without hesitation. It's $12.80, a little over my usual food budget, but it's really good especially the sambal (???) on the side. The noodles are so soft as well!! I would go here again perhaps to try the nasi lemak.
Finally got to try Jim's Malaysia after all the Instagram photos I keep seeing. I love a hearty Char Kway Teow and Jim's Malaysia is famous for it. Their version is not massive in portion but just right for me. Packed with thick slices of smoky lap-cheong and plump, juicy prawns, but the flavours of the rice noodles are not smoky enough for me personally. I also would prefer a bit more oompft in terms of seasoning. For over $12, I think I would have liked to see a bit more wow factor. The chopped chilli in soy I asked for is very spicy, which is fantastic and definitely gave the noodles that kick.
My all time favourite casual lunch place at work! Uncle Jim serve with authentic flavour Asian food with creative combination. I have tried every single item on the menu, and my favourite items are: Char Kuey Teaw, Prawn Laksa, hainan chicken rice. Their traditional ice Malaysian milk tea and ice jelly drink is also my favourite summer drink. I highly recommend this place as NOT any single one item on the menu disappointed me!
Stumbled across Hawker Lane on the basement level of Chatswood Westfield and decided to go for a wander. There was a nice atmosphere with the chatter of diners enjoying themselves against a backdrop of live music from a solo singer on guitar, the clanging of woks and asian cooking smells wafting through the "alleyway".
There seemed to be a constant queue of people at Jim's Malaysia but service was friendly and fast. Ordered the Ice Kacang dessert, got a ticket and minutes later, was sharing the shaved ice dessert. At $6.50, it's unbeatable value.
Jim’s Malaysia is another decent option in Hawker Lane. The laksa soup was flavoursome without being too heavy and the amount of noodles with vegetables was just right. Laksas range from $11.80-$16.80, and being the vegetarian one I found it to be of quite good value. Perfect on a cold wintery evening. The chicken black bean sauce dish was nice also, but I’d probably try something else if I were to go back. Wouldn’t mind getting the laksa again though!

Whenever I go past Jim's Malaysia at the Hawker Lane, there always seems to be a crowd or at least one person ordering. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I feel it has to do with their welcoming 'curb/street' appeal, or in this case 'lane' appeal. Their store just looks so inviting and vibrant. The glass displays of their hot food and their market stall style menus just works for me. And of course importantly, their food tastes great and is fairly priced for the quality of (food court) food.
I've tried their Hainanese chicken with chicken rice, stir-fry pipi's, pre-cooked fried chicken wings and ice kacang. Their Hainanese chicken is on the small side portion-wise, but in terms of flavour it's very tasty, juicy and succulent! Something that I'd go back for. The pipi's were ok and the fried chicken was nice and crunchy, but it's the ice kacang that was delicious and great for sharing. There's so many other dishes that sound fantastic, and make me want to keep coming back to try more!
Must haves // Hainanese chicken w/ chicken rice, Ice Kacang
Pros // nice ambience, quick service, tasty food
Cons // some items become unavailable

Located at the newest food court section (aka Hawker Lane) in Westfield Chatswood is uncle Jim's Malaysian. There are other Asian food stalls as well down this area where wooden butt stools are the order of the day.
I have managed to get here pre-noon lunch time crowd but needed to get takeaway.
The fried chicken wings are delicious and not too salty. It is still a bit oily but good enough to whet any appetite.
The fried Char Kway Teow is divine. The noodles are fried in a hot sizzling wok - fab! The ingredients are fresh - fab! The noodles are fried with lard - super fab!!! This is a superbly well done dish that brings the diner into the streets of Malaysia.
The noodles in the Wat Tan Hor Fun are giving the same hot sizzling wok treatment - fab! The noodles are then treated to a nice warm and thick egg gravy with fresh seafood. Totally an Autumn-Winter warmer Asian dish.
Also ordered the pulut panganng, which is dried mild chilli shrimp wrapped in sticky coconut rice and wrapped in a banana leaf and then barbecued over a grill. So far, this is the only place that I have seen that does this in Sydney (happy to be corrected); it's a very Malaysian street food delicacy.
Nice.
I've always wanted to try the Char Kway Teow here at Jim's Malaysia since Hawker Lane opened and tonight was just as good as any! There were already six people waiting and upon ordering the manager did her best to upsell some homemade biscuits which I'm sure are delightful but I couldn't find the correlation between noodles and biscuits on this occasion so politely declined. I saw her relentless tenacity with other customers too while waiting.
The Char Kway Teow was cooked perfectly despite the busy Saturday night crowds putting strain on the kitchen. The noodles were nicely separated yet there was not too much oil used and there was good wok heat applied to bring about the 'char' flavour throughout. The Kwai Teow was a bit skimp on meat but did contain Chinese sausage which is expensive. The small fried pork fat gave hints of Malay authenticity but there wasn't enough. Some chives or sesame would have completed the dish but overall, a very good Kway Teow. The dish was served with a spoon of sambal belachan. The serving was slightly small and needed some skewers from Lamb and Cummin as a chaser.
For a quick work dinner, we stopped off at Jim’s Malaysian in Hawker Lane, a new food court in Westfield Chatswood that showcases the best that Asian food has to offer. The menu is very expansive, with some great authentic dishes on offer. After seeing the other reviews, I picked the Char Kuey Teoh, which is a flat rice noodle cooked in a wok with fish cakes, prawns, egg and Chinese sausage. A good char kuey teoh needs a strong and delicious ‘burnt wok’ flavour, and this version of the dish definitely delivered!
The titular (tee hee!) Jim was there, and he seemed like a calm island in the storm of people, happy to let the chaos wash over him. They had a looooong line going, and we lucky food bloggers got to have our samples pre-plated for us, so we could grab and go. The curry puff was quite nice in a grab-and-go sorta way, but it wasn’t as flaky as I was hoping it would be. The Kuehs were of a similar standard, but the Laksa soup was thick and rich like I wanted it to be. Now, I must put a huge disclaimer in saying that I’m judging this off a teeny tiny sample size, but from what I’ve had, the broth is legit. Which is 75% of your laksa, right there.

For a small place they actually offer quite a big range of food here and we were fortunate to be able to sample quite a few of them. We of course sampled their laksa. It's hard to resist laksa when eating Malaysian. However it's usually so filling that you rarely have room for anything else once you order this rich coconut curry noodle soup. This one had great flavours and lived up to expectations. It was popular too - with plenty of people at their counter ordering just this dish alone. We also tried their tasty curry puffs and chicken wings as well as a couple of their sweets too.
Great char kuey teow! Smokey and well-fried noodles. Really loving this upmarket mall food. I didn't love the fried vermicelli dish as much because I found it bland but my uncle seemed fine with it. A bit pricier than I'm willing to pay if buying regularly, so just going to save this as a once-every-now-and-then treat.
For shopping centre food, this is amazing. Not cheap mind you (for a food court), but I'd rather pay more and get good quality food like you do here. In fact, just as good as any restaurant. The portions are quite good too. Loving the new Hawker Lane.
My first experience with the new Westfield hawkers lane in Chatswood.....
Price vs portion tend to be on smaller but the food is quite ok......
The chilli pipis the sauce ok but the pipis can be bit fresher.......
Char kwai teow not wet, has slight smoky wok flavour, if the noodle could be not as small pieces would've been a top dish....
The laksa has few issues. Good things first, they use thigh meat instead of breast so it's not dry. They also use rice noodle and Hokkien noodle, not many places do that. Now the not so goods points, the soup has quite strong taste but mainly in curry, very one dimensional and lacks depth. Also there's not much fragrance in the soup itself so overall it was a let down..
The Hainan chicken rice however is really good, almost on par with East West at Mandarin food court. they use thigh meat so it's soft and moist and the rice is cooked quite subtle yet flavoursome. The soup though is just a small one sip size more for sauce than soup... surely they can spare some more liquid. But still this chicken rice is a real killer dish.
But the fried chicken wings are quite good. The batter very thin and crunchy and seasoned very well.... Best thing is 3 for $4... Bargain
I was hankering for some good Hainanese chicken and where better than Chatswood's own 'Hawker lane'? Though with the amount of money seemingly invested into this little commune, it felt a little upmarket for my pennies. Regardless, we are here for the chicken!
For $12.80 (a price which appears to have been amended recently based on the penmanship), you can score a bowl of chicken rice, a serve of steamed succulent boneless chicken, sides of chilli sauce, chicken soup and a few vegetable garnishes.
The rice was too firm with sections undercooked and the accompaniments were uninspiring. Only saving grace of the dish was the chicken, which was tasty and perfectly lubricated in a thin soy marinade.
This is one of the quieter stalls in hawker lane and therefore resulted in no wait for service or food. Ideal for those that want to beat the crowd.
