People keep saying Ozeki Sushi was not what it used to be - I'd have to disagree. The food here has been consistent over years and nothing much has changed. It's always a treat going to Chatswood because it means a visit to Ozeki. Keep it up guys!
Atmosphere is upbeat, manager, waitstaff and chefs were all really and enthusiastic- a good sign. Also have to make a shout out their amazing playlist- Radiohead, New Order, The Smiths and Nirvana all in the time I was there. Fantastic quality sushi for the price, I was shocked at how little our bill was given the quality and sheer volume of sushi we'd eaten.
We visited 2pm on a Sunday, the train was busy, but there was plenty of selection- I didn't feel like I was fighting other customers for one or two good plates, which is my biggest problem with most train setups. Loyalty system is great too.
Loses a half star...only because it's a little dark in some corners of the restaurant, so when it's bright outside, it's a little intense for my delicate eyes ;)
Makoto's $3 a plate 'lunch revolution' over the past few years has kept me successfully from seeking greener pastures in Chatswood. It was hard to find a reason to change but today,I felt adventurous and needed to risk disappointment to broaden my culinary experience.
Attention to detail is what is immediately noticeable about the sushi here. The cut of the fish, the dollop of wasabi, the identical looking sushi all bring back memories of when you first had sushi and when each dish past the scrutiny of an uncompromising sushi chef.
They do not have discounted sushi for lunch but what you get in return is sushi size and presentation that's not compromised. The fish are cut to the right thickness to allow you to enjoy the texture and perfectly cut you expect from a genuine sushi chef. The fish is also very fresh and there is no sinew on any piece of fish unlike the other places. The sashimi is trimmed for presentation too. It was a nice touch that the Shrimp Nigiri had editable flowers on it for presentation and the taste complimented it too.
The Salmon sushi was separated clearly into belly and non belly pieces with the belly clearly distinguishable made to Hikari-mono (sliver skin exposed). The Kingfish had a very firm texture and taste unlike other Kingfish I have had before. There were many other unique sushi on offer and all very nicely presented which is a welcome change from the simplified production line offerings the discounted ones present. It is a shame they do not have cuttlefish or octopus on their menu though.
Overall, a sushi train displaying the sushi a cut above the rest where the chef are proud of their craft. Will be back!
It's worth the hell of trying to park at Chatswood chase to enjoy some quality sushi. I've always gone here by myself as a guilty treat. Last time I actually spent over $40 just for myself for lunch on sushi plates the other day. My stack was embarrassing but it tastes so nice, it's fresh and a nice little escape from the world for a good 15-20 minutes.
Overall, a positive experience. There was a wide selection and it's a little pricey, but the portions are fair and it's fresh - given the poor reviews about the freshness during dinner time, perhaps it all comes down to the time of your visit...

They offer some of the best quality fish that I have ever had at a "train" style restaurant, the staff are all very friendly and the chef is happy to provide salmon sashimi in bulk at your request. If you are in the Chatswood Chase area, check it out. Reviewers on Urbanspoon seem to agree with me also with 82% of them liking it at the time of this post.
Over joyed with their 'All Plates $3' sign, we were directed to 5 empty stools by the coveyer full of sushi rotating around the table with sushi makers in the middle making sushi and taking special orders.
Amazing!!. I'm huge fan of Japanese cuisine in general, but particularly I have so much love for authentic, and proper Sushi train. Unfortunately, I was yet to find out high quality Japanese sushi train restaurant in Sydney. However, this problem that I had is resolved by Ozeki Chatswood. First of all, entire ambiance of the restaurant made myself as the customer to feel welcomed, and I truly believe they serve the best quality sushi in town. Without question I will visit this restaurant again this week!!
Fabulous selection and personal service. The sashimi is excellent and love the nice touch of green tea refills.
Freshly made sushi. Service was excellent, food was freshly made, nice vibe :)
Amazing!!!. Like it....!!!!!!!! i want to invite my family to this restaurant in chatswood!!!!! very good chef!!!
We had a really good Sunday lunch. One of the freshest and best value sushi trains I've been to. They had a range of fresh fish, from flathead to snapper, scampi to muloway, all nigri style for $3.20! Bargain! Miso was good. Agadashi tofu was great, but no bonito flakes :( green tea is bottomless. A good, v fresh sushi train. Can't go wrong!
Fresh stuff. Pretty good value for a Lauren sushi
Had a nice Sunday lunch here just yesterday - have been trying to get my partner away from another sushi train I don't like for a while so this was a good compromise - the dishes are pretty well priced for chatswood and the sushi tasty enough - my benchmark dish is always the salmon sashimi and they did a good job, even if slightly thick xx
Delicious delicious...yum!. Chose this instead of chatswood bbq that we normally go to on a tues night and the best decision..
fresh, flavoursome sushi (and i'm not a huge fan of sushi/sashimi etc), and wanted more and more...even tempted to give the salmon sashimi a go it was so fresh looking! YUM! better than anything is that they offer dessert options on the sushi train too...so once your done you can complete your meal with a fruit salad, asian dessert and my ultimate favourite...mango pancakes!!! 10 out of 10
It's changed. Hey guys, I just stumbled upon this, and I believe it's changed, because, I ate there recently, and the quality was great, and I loved the music, they we're playing korean pop music, it was a relaxed great night of dining, and I saw this site and was curious, but I did not want to comment without being sure, so I ate there and had an interesting conversation with the head chef, it turns out he is japanese, so I asked and got a detailed answer from one of the staff, it turns out that the shop is owned by korean people, but the staff are mixed, while most of the chefs are japanese, I liked the food, and appreciated it being only $3 a plate
Very good overall. Nice selection of sushi train yummies.
This is certainly the best sushi joint in Chatswood, if not the cheapest. Portion sizes are large and filling, and each piece is delicately made. As a lover of salmon sushi, this place has never disappointed. However, do not try the sea-urchin - although the latest hipster fashion, I can assure you that exorbitant price ($6.50) does not in any way match its terrible taste.
The interior decor is nice, if not particularly elaborate. Even though it is a sushi train, I have never felt like I've been crammed in, as if stuck in a tin of sardines, and background chatter is a pleasant buzz. A trip here is certainly one you will not regret.
The takeaway packed meals for $10.80 are an excellent option if one is either on a budget or in a hurry.
The decor at the Chatswood Chase sushi train is quite sleek and cool, and the service matches it well with the promptness and efficiency of the staff. Excellent variety of sushi and the seafood here is pretty fresh. Well priced as well which is definitely a bonus!
Better than sushi train, larger than your traditional sushi restaurant. The sushi is very fresh, soft shell crab is good and my daughter loves the noodles. We go here every few weeks.
I disagree with many of the recent reviews, the sushi is actually very good, fresh and $3.50 per plate unless stated otherwise. The only other place in chatswood of similar quality is Makoto.
The name of the restaurant is also now called Sushi Rio and it's no longer Ozeki Sushi.
