Spacious restaurant with a wide option of both korean and chinese dishes. Generous serving size snd reasonably priced. The korean pancake was thicker than the usual ones i had but nevertheless crunchy. Spicy squid was the right balance of spicy n sweet. The side dishes were not up to expectations. However, we had plenty of food as the serving size was bigger than expected so that wasn't an issue. It was also interesting that there were plenty of options for bibimbap- we were surprised that they offered salmon bibimbap , the thick cut of salmon was also a pleasant bonus. Good service from the staff. Take note that they charge 50 cents for Take away boxes.

3.8 - I like the Ginseng Chicken Soup. It has a whole small Chicken inside and enough Ginseng for it to be tasty (unlike other Korean places). It is flavoured with Red Dates, Chives and there is black rice inside the Chicken. I think it would be even more delicious if the black rice was in larger grain size so it would be a more interesting texture and fill me up a bit more. I also like all the sides they give us.

Friendly staff, good service, nice range of complimentary side dishes, and their weekday lunch sets are outstanding! Dinner and causal gathering are also recommended 🙂

Beautiful Chinese and Korean. You can choose either. Delicious meals. Fabulous special fried rice. Excellent kind, friendly, fast, efficient, polite service. Alcohol available as well. Nice choices. We have been here a few times. There is an elevator to get there. All wheelchair accessible with easy wide wheelchair access around the restaurant. Close to theatre for top prior or post movie eating. Good prices. Large parking area with the Westfield centre it is in.

Well located Korean restaurant. The serve sizes and the food both are pretty decent. We had the bossam and the hot korean soup. The side dishes are tasty as well. Reasonably priced. Not the best Korean food I’ve eaten but above average.

DO NOT RECOMMEND - unless you want to walk out of here with sauce stains all over your pants (Sat night, 29/09). The waitress was serving side dishes to our table and carelessly spilled brown vinegar sauce all over my pants, legs, shoes and phone. I was not offered any discount, free meal or any compensation for dry-cleaning costs at all. I also noticed the same waitress carelessly force her way through to other tables hitting bags on a pram as she did so - I sure hope there was nothing fragile in those bags. There was also a large table of approx. 8 guests who seemed to be receiving "VIP" priority service as they were obviously bringing in a lot of business for the night. This therefore meant that many other smaller tables (ours included) were left waiting almost half an hour for our food. So unless you want to walk away with stained pants and a dining experience that lasts most the night, I would suggest to stay away.

One of the higher rated Korean restaurants in the area so thought we would give it a go, but was left very disappointed with the taste and flavour of the ginseng soup.

The Korean Chinese food here is great. It's conveniently located in the Westfield shopping centre.<br/><br/>Everything is good except the owner is less friendly if only some of the customers are dining in. One of us didn't want to eat and her attitude changed. It was disappointing.

Have been to Soban a few times over the years. The setting is nice and quiet and standard of food is good. Recently tried the KanPung Ki fried chicken (needs to be covered with less sweet sauce and needs to be more crunchy imo), Yukkaejang was quite nice even though I'm not good with spicy. Salads are surprisingly good.

A food of this Restaurant was really yummy. I can tell bossam meal was really yummy. No need any comments. The price cost of satifactions was crazy. I think that the lunch set price is reasonable. Just go to eat.

I came here one time at 8pm and ordered their kimchi stew. What they served me seemed to be just the stew left at the bottom of the pot as all the tofu was broken up and not much meat or other ingredients were in the stew...

One side Korean (Soban) & one side Chinese (Towon), but effectively ran by the same crew with different menus. Maybe because the crew have to physically split between the 2 restaurants they tend to station in the middle, and don't come over for service much. We had dinner on the Korean side. Overall the food was average, the pancake was bit bland, it needed a lot more sauce then what was on it. The spicy seafood Tofu stew was not spicy at all. My friend's bibimbap was probably the most enjoyable dish of the night.

Service wasn't great but the good was excellent. I also liked that they have an extensive Asian menu to cater for a group that might not ask like Korean food. I had ribs stew which had ginseng and dried dates. It was definitely one of the best I've had in Sydney.

I used to go to Soban Chatswood and the old Hornsby location alot. However ever since they've changed things up (Chatswood added Towon and Hornsby closed down) the food has not been the same. Some dishes on the menu are still alright, especially the salads which are really unique and dressed with reduced balsamic. The added Chinese-Korean dishes are okay but nothing I would get cravings for.

I’ve been here a few times, actually probably a lot more than a few, and it was always for Korean-Chinese i.e. Chinese food for the Korean palate. It’s not the best but does a decent job and I do leave satisfied so guess not much to complain about. There really isn’t a lot of this cuisine around Chatswood so kind of gives them an upper hand.<br/><br/>Classics like jajangmyun (black bean noodles) and jjambbong (spicy seafood noodle soup) are reliable and quick & easy eats.

All staff were friendly enough and attentive.<br/><br/>Food: we ordered the seafood pancake and the beef bulgogi set (comes with rice and soup as well). the food was okay, everything tasted pretty good. However, all the food arrived lukewarm which baffled us. The seafood pancake arrived in 3 minutes which at first I thought was just efficiency but it did not taste freshly cooked. The bulgogi set was lukewarm as well. Everything would have been better served hot and fresh!!! <br/><br/>Price: the Korean side seemed to be priced pretty fairly. However, the Chinese side wanted $25 for sweet and sour pork. Pass!!!<br/><br/>Overall: wound not recommend and would not go back either. <br/><br/><br/>

Taking into consideration that Soban (and Towon, its Chinese next-door-neighbour-sharing-a-kitchen-counterpart) has better reviews than NoGoSan Korean restaurant, we thought we’d give this place a go. This wasn’t the best idea we’ve ever had.<br/><br/>Food: We ordered the Grilled Pork ribs, and the Ginseng Chicken soup. The ribs were extremely plain, and on the dry side: the vegetables were steamed and presented as-is, without even the slightest hint of seasoning, and the ribs were suspiciously missing any rib, dry-fried, and placed next to the vegetables. On its own, the dish was like a desert. Thankfully we had the soup, or so we thought. If this is how Ginseng Chicken soup is meant to be, I’m not sure what it was we were eating in Seoul. But it’s here that’s at fault: there should actually be some taste of Ginseng here, while we simply got a chicken soup, the pieces of Ginseng few and far between. The breast meat was dry (it had been overcooked,) and there was hardly any rice within the carcass. Disappointing. 6/20

Stumbled upon this small Korea restaurant when shopping with parents in the Westfield Shopping Centre of Chatswood. Decided to give this place a go when we didn't want yumcha. Was pleasantly surprised by the efficient service of the waiters/waitresses to attend to us, and the delivery of the food as well.<br/><br/>Ordered the very value worthy Teriyaki Chicken Bibimbap ($12ish) which was on the lunch special menu (seriously value for money!!!). Was throughly impressed by the overall taste (although I felt the chicken could have been a little more moist and less dry), and the rice. The flavours were there, and when mixed well in the stone pot, it was surprisingly very good. The miso soup that came along with it was also surprisingly good with a not too salty taste like a lot of other restaurants. <br/><br/>In large, this restaurant really impressed me and I would definitely line it on my Chatswood food places to recommend for my friends! :)

I've done it!!! :D I've finally found my al tang stew fix in Chatswood. I used to travel all the way to Madang in the city if I wanted a semi-decent al tang, but this one is pretty good!!! :D The flavour of the soup broth is stronger here than Madang, and tastes like a natural version of shrimp shim ramyun! Haha. I also wasn't too thirsty afterwards, which means there wasn't bucketloads of MSG in there. Good soup stock, there were clams and slivers of dried abalone in there. The fish roe itself was well-cooked but still moist and tender. Also, this is a great place to watch cute babies play with their food and exasperate their parents! Hehe. Very baby friendly place.

The food wasn't the best but it was still tasty. I had the Jajangmeon (black bean noodles) and the chilli pepper and garlic fried chicken which was satisfying. The jajangmeon on the other hand was bland which was a little disappointing however this was comprehensible considering the price, $13. The fried chicken was good but very expensive, $24 in which nearly the whole "meal" menu cost around that price or more.<br/><br/>I recommend this place for the people are willing to spend money for average Korean food.

Soban has joined forces with Towon to create a Chinese Korean restaurant in one and the winners are the diners. I think it works well as people are given two menus and therefore given more choices to satisfy everyone at the table. For us, this was exactly the case as we ordered two Chinese entree's and a Korean main. The shop frontage still shows two distinct restaurants but the dining room is connected once you get through the doors.<br/><br/>Spring Rolls - good filling of black fungus and shoots but there was simply too much pastry that made the exterior hard and thick where the flavour of the filling was lost.<br/><br/>Sesame Prawns - served as fingers, the prawn mince was thick and well seasoned. Although small prawns were used, at least there was a good layer of it on the toast unlike many other Chinese restaurants that still serve this classic.<br/><br/>An-Dong Jjim-dak - looked very good on the photo and described as 'Slow steamed marinated chicken in spicy soy sauce with potatoes, onions, carrots etc' was missing the potatoes, onions and carrots and came with potato starch noodles and dried dates and mushrooms. We questioned whether they gave us the right dish but there was no other dish on the menu this resembled so resigned to the fact it was. It was incredible the description could be so far off. Anyway….the dish was tasty and wasn't spicy at all unless you chomped into the dried red chills. The sauce was on the sweet side but was rich in a chicken gravy that was soaked up by the chewy noodles.<br/><br/>With the different concept, we were glad the Kim Chi remained and the complimentary rice was perfect if you were ordering Chinese dishes.<br/><br/>Saw a beef tartare of some sort, or it may have been Beef Yuke that looked pretty good at another table and something to keep in mind for the next visit!

Had dinner before a movie at 8:30pm. There was no one in the restaurant and we were greeted by a waiter that sat us down and gave us our menu. Within less than 2 minutes we were asked if we would like to order, I was given 4 menus and I still hasn't finished reading one of them. Order a glass of wine that was poured elsewhere and just a glass was brought to my table, so I am not sure if I was actually given what I ordered. The menu looked very appealing so we ordered a few dishes. The meals came out quickly and were presented ok but tasted better than they looked. The waiters tried there best to communicate with us but really need to be animated, speak up and clearly. The decor of the restaurant is very rustic and I spent a lot of time thinking why? Although the restaurant was clean. Indy likely wouldn't try again.

Alright food, comfy seating, not the best service.. Food was alright, there's a lot of choice although I generally stick to the standard bib bim bap (they have a nice salmon version). Comfy spacious seating. Very inattentive service though. Takes a while to flag down a waitstaff.

Came across Soban Korean on the top Level of Westfield and was lured by the fake food displayed at the front shop... So we decided to try it out.. Banchan come first and my attention was straight away to the moist and soft potato mash salad ~~ The pink liquid with cabbge in it is my first time seeing that in K-restaurant. I guess we enter one of the "high-class" version of K-restaurant. As the patrons around us are mostly Japanese and Korean family ;P Not students. hihi.. *Assumption Assumptions* Banchan Our second dish is Korean mandu. Filled with pork and vermicilli. Kalguksu has long been one of the mainstay dishes served in the Korean home and is traditionally considered seasonal food therefore it was essential to order Beef Kalguksu ($11.90) a house speciality. It has the noodles arranged over shredded braised beef, strips of egg, chopped spring onion, garnished with a slice of chilli. The broth is made from beef bones which is heart warming for the winter season in Sydney.

My first proper experience with Korean food! I loved how fresh the Bibimbap was, although it was a stark contrast with the rather heavy garlic marinade of the beef. Usually Korean cuisine will have a lot of free side dishes but surprisingly other than that, we were given complimentary pumpkin soup as well. It was thick and delicious which all of us finished in less than 10 seconds.

Poor Service. Atrocious service by the owner who followed us to the door on leaving to say that we would not be allowed to share dishes in future from lunch special. My folks are elderly with swallowing difficulty so can barely finish half a meal. Shame on Soban for being so profit driven and for discriminating against the elderly.

Plenty of side dishes. Great food. Try the rice wine for something a little different. Don't drive afterwards though. I like this place. And even though I no longer live in Chatswood. I shall return someday.<br/><br/>They recently expanded to include a Chinese restaurant into the mix.<br/>Next time I eat there I'll update this review.

I was amazed at how many dishes one meal came with!! Although i was surprised to see creamy pasta as one of the ban chan. The meal was alright but service is severely lacking. Don't expect to be served with a smile. Just be glad that you're even noticed to have your order taken.

Great dish. I can't remember what the name of this dish is, but the dish consists of traditional korean bulgogi, vegetables and wedges. It is absolutely delicious! They give you plenty of meat and sometimes i ask for more vegetables instead of the wedges and they give you even more meat! YUM!

This restaurant has by far te eat kimchi ji-gae I have had in Sydney. Not only is the portion crazy big but the flavor seems more powerful and amazing. The kimchi fried rice also was fantastic with the kimchi not overpowering and delicious

Disaster. should be renamed 'SoBAD'. Tasteless food. the bibimbap was disappointing. the beef bulgogi was dry and tasteless. the pancake was the same. bland. the chap chae was no better.... bit too sweet for my liking, which is ok, if that's their style... but it had no real kick.<br/><br/>first and last time there. won't be going back.

Fusion Korean. This is perfect for those who's not familiar with Korean cuisine. There's enough western influence but also enough Korean flavour to Koreans to enjoy the good.<br/><br/>I tried the Bulgogi Salad which I must say the meat was closer to Galbi (rib) which is even better and very tender.<br/>Pajeon (seafood pancake) was very nicely cooked and well portioned and mushroom Jeon Gol (hot pot) was well seasoned and hot enough but didn't have garlicky after taste. YukHwae (Beef sashimi) was fresh and had nice flavour. MakGuelLie (rice wince) was a nice addition to the wine list as it's becoming very popular in Korea.<br/><br/>As a Korean, I found it bit strange to have fusion Korean but enjoyed all dish nonetheless. I would probably take none Korean friends here for its atmosphere and good, I probably won't take my parents here. It's definitely too sweet with very un-korean sauce so if you're after authentic Korean food, Soban isn't for you. But if you want to try something new, or new to Korean, it's a very good place to start.
