Staff were very friendly and helpful, explaining all ingredients. Noodles were handmade and delicious.
Dumplings are juicy and crispy. Chilli vinegar is very tasty too. The owner is very friendly and can recommend if you’re unsure. 👍
Simply outstanding authentic Beijing cuisine. Recommend the Sichuan dry noodles. You will not be disappointed. The fried dumplings are also excellent, as is the black garlic vinegar dipping sauce.
Oh man, what can I say? This tastes like home. Like proper Beijing style home cooking. I am so happy to have finally tried this place, and especially with all of the small dishes that they have in the front counter - stuff that you wouldn’t see being served in most Chinese restaurants around here (they’re all southern Chinese restaurant, to be fair).
I got the Mapo Tofu with rice, some fish dumplings and a small dish of pork rind jelly. Soooo good! They even gave me some dumpling water to wash everything down, which was just so quaint and homelike I had to say yes.
I chatted with my parents and apparently they used to know the owners a long time ago, when they all came to Australia together roughly around the same time. Either way, it definitely tastes authentic, like straight from my grandparents place.
The only mild negative is the price. I feel like for being something that’s marketed as home cooking for cheap, I want the dishes t be slightly cheaper too. But ah well, it’s worth it. If you’re from Beijing or you want to know what Beijing home cooking tastes like, definitely come here. I can’t believe it took me this long to try it!
Service was perfect. Flawless explanation English and Mandarin. The beef of the beef noodle soup tasted great. However, the soup itself tastes watered down. ... But we will come back if we are in Chatswood again. We think they are really good with meat.
When I first came here, I asked the chef if I can take away their shallot pancake.
He said “no” because the taste is better if you eat here! So I was sure that he is a good chef and came back next day.
I had pork dan dan and shallot pancake.
It’s cheap, fast and super yummy!
Although it’s just a food court gourmet but the taste is very good!
The chef and staff tried to explain the food in Japanese. They are so kind:)
The chef told me that the park dan dan is very spicy but for me it is not that spicy.
If you like very spicy food like me you can ask to make it extra hot!
I highly recommend you to come here if you want a fast food but yummy food.
This place is a genuine gem. In Sydney we are spoilt for choice on Asian food but still it is quite rare to find instances that are truly authentic. The food at grape garden is proper northern Chinese cuisine, and the hand-pulled noodles take me straight back to home in Beijing. Any noodle lover will be blown away by the texture, and there is a range of flavours to accompany. Cumin lamb noodles with extra chili goes highly recommended.
I adore this place. Just a little spot in a food court out of the way in Chatswood. You might ignore it unless you want some of the best goddamn hand pulled noodles you can get in Sydney. The friend noodles and the soup are both amazing. The gent who runs the place is a character as well. OMG this place! FARRRKK!!! I love it. It reminds me of being in asia and finding a hole in the wall that is just so tasty. 14 dollars a dish. So good. I would give 8 stars. Get the lamb fried noodles and the beef soup noodles. Add chilli. Get a bit of vinegar. Live your life.
While working in the office on a Saturday I had this sudden craving for something spicy , hearty and comforting. I jumped on Zomato to see if I could discover a new place to sink my teeth into and i found this little gem. I made my order via phone and it was ready to pick up in ten minutes flat, I order spicy pork Dan Dan with pan fried pork and cabbage dumplings. The noodles are made from scratch by hand , the noodle was cooked al dante' served with a heart warming mouth tingling Szechuan chilli broth with tender sweet bits of pork mince. when dunking the noodles into the broth the sweet pork mince and chilli oil stuck onto to the noddles to achieve the perfect mouth full of spicy meaty greatness. The dumplings had a sweet juicy interior and a crispy chewy exterior. if you are going to order the Dan Dan and dumplings be prepared to take a nap afterwards as it is subject to inducing you into a food coma. Prices are very reasonable - Pork Dan Dan =$10 & 12 Pan fried pork dumpling =$11, the portions are generous , great to share or eat the next day!
One of the well hidden gem in Chatswood. Down in the basement foodcourt of the less popular Lemon Grove Centre, the store itself doesn't look spectacular, not a "restaurant" with tables for dine in, just the counter to order food (you can eat there at the food court tables), and certainly not as polished as New Shanghai or De-Pho next door. However their food are amazing. The handmade noodles are not chewy, the Chinese version of al dente (彈牙爽口). The soup broth was flavoursome, I only added 1 spoonful of chilli & oil mix, so it wasn't burning spicy, still very enjoyable. Also got a couple of the "snacks" to takeaway, numbing spicy tripe & pig trotter jelly, both are definitely acquired taste for some, but great if you're into them like me!
Food court food. A cut above, perhaps, but priced accordingly. The dumplings were very good, as was the accompanying sauce. I'm not sure it's food that I'll be dreaming about in future though
Excellent food with honest service. It's in the Lemon Grove centre in the food court area. Doesn't look like much but the food is simple honest and excellent! Plenty of seating as it's in a food court. All handmade noodles and dumplings. We ordered the fish dumplings and it was so good we had to order a second! The pork noodles we ordered was also great. Not oily at all. The owner doesn't muck about... he gives you honest opinions about what food is best cooked a certain way. We value this as we felt he really cares about his food and the best way for it to be enjoyed! Will be going back again that's for sure!
Plenty of small side dishes to choose from, authentic Beijing flavours. Favourites are stir fry lamb with shallots and noodles & pot sticker dumplings.
Love the place, has always been one of my favour chinese noodle resturant in chatswood. Original and tradition chinese food, the owner also the chief is nice and friend, always offer us some side dish when we go there
Fantastic! I've been twice now and can't wait to go back.
"Fish" dumplings sound awful to me, but I gave them a chance and they were delicious! I was so impressed. They are so light, and very tasty.
The pan fried pork dumplings were another home run. They didn't overdo it with salt in the meat like a lot of places tend to do, and the pastry was still light and wasn't chewy.
The soy/vinegar dipping sauce the dumplings come with is a perfect match.
Definitely go and check this place out. The noodles are excellent and the owners are cheerful and friendly!
I had the beef noodle soup, the noodles were hand pulled to order and you really could taste the difference. The broth was well balanced and it was a generous portion of beef for $12.
There are lots of other dishes on the menu that I'd like to try so I'll be back again soon.
This place is such a gem and now I’m just kicking myself for not going there sooner. I always knew it was there but just put it off thinking “next time… next time…”, thinking somewhere else would be better, but there has not been anywhere better than this in Chatswood!!
The fish dumplings were divine, and I could not praise them enough. Exactly how I like my dumplings and just sad that I could probably finish off two servings by myself and still crave more. Dumpling craving has been unleashed and cannot be satiated nooo!
Not only were the dumplings amazing, you’re not going to regret the noodles either. I think the noodles themselves have been salted so the broth doesn’t have to do all the work, but honestly speaking the soup pulls its own weight and more. With vinegar in the mix, it’s so refreshing and delicious, there’ll be nothing left in the bowl once you’re done with it.
To top this all off, service is spot on! There’s an awesome guy working there who not only has a great sense of humour but is also incredibly switched on. When I was ordering the vegetable noodles he made sure to ask if chicken stock was okay. And they do have another stock available for vegetarians. Also, we were spending a bit of time oohing and aahing over the sides but were short a couple of dollars. He picked up on it and asked which one we were looking at, and gave us a plate to try for free!
Definitely going back!!
Great things have been spoken about Grape Garden. It was one of the last restaurants open in the Lemon Grove Shopping Centre in Chatswood. The first promising sign of things to come was the large pile of noodle dough that the staff was preparing for the next day. As we approached, the Head Chef gave us a knowing smile and, before we had a chance to read the menu, asked us “rice, noodle or dumpling!?”. This is a perfect example of how Grape Garden does things differently.
Don't know why I didn't come here sooner. This place is a casual but unique dining experience. The prices are very reasonable and the food is so wholesome. All must try if around the Chatswood area.
I reckon this little shop in the Lemon Gloves mall food court USA hidden treasure. They do some good traditional flavour Chinese noodle and dumplings. All their noodles are freshly hand made, so as their dumplings. The lady at the shop can speak Mandarin and Cantonese. There's a younger guy at the shop speaks fluent English and Chinese. So if you get stuck in ordering, you can always ask for recommendations;)
One of my favourite spots in Chatswood to grab noodles, Dan Dan and snacks. The family run business is loud, efficient and sometimes hilarious (the dad's noodle making is a sight to behold). Apart from the hand made noodle dishes, definitely try the snacks (about 3-4 in a medium container) - hot, salty and spicy. Make sure you also grab vinegar and chilli with your dish - yum. If you ask for it HOT, be prepared for it to be HOT HOT (don't say I didn't warn you :)). Love this place ... total urban eats legends.
Could lamb noodle soup be the single tastiest lunch in all of Sydney?
Hand-pulled noodle, delicious broth, thin slices of lamb, a few greens, splashed with a touch of black vinegar and chilli oil. All this for, I think, 14$.
And if you want to splash out, you order three side dishes from the bain maries. Options include the amazing peanut, fungus, and tofu one, the refreshing the cucumber and fungus one, the crunchy cabbage one, and the healthful sliced seaweed one. There are also a bunch of highly flavoured chicken off-cuts for people who love interesting textures and nibbling around bone.
The ground floor of Lemon Grove is almost like a hawker centre, a place where eating combines perfectly with people watching, where the members of your party can each order from a different stall, and where you can finish off your meal with a purchase at an asian grocery.
Omg! Dan dan noodle is Extremely spicy!!!! Smells like it contains a lots of Chinese spices. You can choose beef or pork . And pan fried dumplings are tasty .
This place is a hidden gem in Chatswood.. Located inside Lemon Groove shopping centre, Grape Garden makes their own noodle and you can create your own noodle or mostly point at someone else's order if you can't understand their menu (listed in mandarin mostly)
You can choose to have it in dry or soup form with your chosen meat and they all will taste so good!
The noodle is springy, thick, chewy and always freshly hand made!
The food out-shined the rather ordinary shopfront. I will be back...have my eye on the shallot pancake next time!
"The best noodles," I'm told rather vaguely by an ex local. I don't cross the Harbour Bridge all that often, so I have to take their word for it and give it a whirl. Located at the bottom level food court of the oddly sparse Lemon Grove Shopping Centre of
One of the Best Handmade Noodles in Town!. Have the handmade noodles! Any of them! My personal favourite is the Lamb Noodle Soup. So tasty! Even the noodles are tasty!
Beef, Chicken, Pork?!. Don't let the humble location within the Lemon Grove food court fool you, the food is seriously good and exceptional value to boot. The noodles are freshly hand made on a daily basis, which give a great springy texture to them. You'll often see one of the staff members stretching them out and smashing them onto the counter for good measure!
My top picks: Spicy beef dan dan noodles, fried pork dumplings, and the shallot pancake.
PS. If you're lucky enough to order noodles from the "Noodle Man" himself, prepare to be asked loudly for your meat preference! First timers might get a shock, but it's all in good fun :)
Have eaten here many times over the past few years and have never been disappointed. Great family business and the best homemade noodles and wontons in Sydney. Would definitely recommend
DUMPLINGS ARE AWESOME. Really great food, being from China its hard to find food that is really traditional and not thick/greasy cheap knock-offs
Best noodles!! love it!!!!
I have been having their handmade noodle and delicious pan fried dumplings with these guys for almost 20years! It’s very nice to see this legendary store stands firm in a rapidly growing suburb being pushed by bigger commercial players/shopping centres.
Their hand made soup noodles and fried dumplings are my recommendations! They never go wrong.
The owners are down to earth and fair. Just walk up and speak with them and they will sort out what you want to eat. :)
Will always come back!
If you are looking for quick easy affordable tasty lunch place in chatswood. This is right place. Try beef dandan noodle in winter. Spicey soup gives to prevent a cold. If you don't want spice, try dupling noodle soup. I like that, too. This is food court style eating place. Don't expect more than what you pay for. Nice food. Friendly chef. That's all. Certainly not a date place. One of My favourite places in sydney. Gumshara ramen and dandan noodle here.
Visual is not good but taste is good!
A female staff does not have service mind but male staff is friendly.
They are making fresh hand pull noodles and dumplings.
Passionate and aggressively friendly, the service is A+ and the food is even better. Noodles are chewy but soft and light. Pan fried dumplings are crispy with light chewy skins and delicious fillings. Cold dishes are always different and exciting so its always a new adventure. Flavours feel like home but have enough intensity to keep you wanting more.
Excellent Chinese food. Good variety of side dishes. Beef noodles is good. Reasonable prices
Freshly made noodle with topping of many to choose from, you'd wish you had 3 stomachs to accomplish all. Pen-fri dumplings are a must try. Make sure to order some daily-made cold side dish, your brain wants more of that 🌶🌶🌶 tast, but your 👅 honestly need a break. I wish there are 6 stars to give.
Oh make sure to bring cash💵😉 and enjoy the ride.
Best handmade noodle in Sydney. Try the stir fried or the sauce noodle (first two options on the menu) if you are trying this place for the first time. Cold side dishes and fried dumplings are also excellent. The service can be brusque at times but they mean well and they are serving up the real deal. Very highly recommended!
Hidden gem in Chatswood!
Best Chinese noodle soups that I had so far in Sydney.
We tried Pork Dan Dan (spicy) and the Pork fried dumplings. They are all really good!
They have their signature way of serving upside down dumplings with the excess crispy skins around it. The dumplings are served with two condiments, sour and spicy. The spicy condiment taste really similar to Pork Dan Dan (pretty sure it is the base).
The uncle and aunty are really friendly.
This is my second time here and still impressed by their food.
Too busy eating and forgot to take pictures 🤤
