Review Tawandang @ Chatswood - Chatswood

This is a great place to have lunch or dinner. They serve authentic Thai food - some of it can be very spicy! Curries are sweet and sour, some are creamy as you'd expect. The pork knuckle is great, my son absolutely loves it. The stir fried noodles are great too. Lunch meal deals are great value for a sit down meal and the service isn't bad either. They do takeaway if that's your thing. Upstairs is more spacious than downstairs. Stairs are steep for old people. Great food, come here on a reasonably regular basis.

Great food. The coconut blend is so tasty. The duck red curry was good but not enough meat. The service was interesting, the waiters don't really know English. The waiter who served us said our duck curry was soup and didn't understand what fried rice is. In the end I wanted to pay with a prepaid eftpos card and they didn't know what it was and rejected it. Pretty unprofessional and inexperienced for a new opening. Good food but left frustrated. Mussels omelette was great!

First time visit the Chatswood outlet with missus after window shopping in Westfield. They having the monthly promotion and this month was the deep fried fish and chicken Tom yum soup half price. Missus loves to eat fish and without thinking much of other places around, she drag me in and ordered that. Not much of customers around at that time there were only a table with 6 pax which is slimiest done with their meal. While we waiting for our meal to be serve, there came another 2 table of customers. We noticed that the floor staff started to running around at if it’s really busy. Our Tom yum soup was served but the staff forget to lit the fire for us. We asked for the service but than the staff looked so busy (with only 3 tables overall less than 10 pax to serve) and told us to wait. Soup got cold and the 2 floor staff still looking “busy”. Overall, food is good but service is ridiculous. Can’t imagine how panic the staff would be if it’s full house when they can’t even handle 3 tables of 8 pax.

Service had gone bad lately, lunch menu had no other meat options (chicken or pork) leaves only one dish beef to choose, which they only told me 5 mins after I ordered everything. It took forever to cook and serve one single dish and waitress can't seem to understand English well.

They have a pretty good lunch time deal where you can select an entree, main and drink. I usually get a curry as my main; they're a bit sweet for my palette but still yum. Food usually arrives in a reasonable amount of time.

Lovely and nice little Thai restaurant. Breakfast grab and go is such good value. Thai traditional dessert is always good. A bit sweet but for those who have thai tests will love it. Friendly thai staff. Toilet need a bit of improving as water tap need fixing. The tom sapp soup is so nice.

Came here for their Pork Knuckle special which took forever to arrive. Service was non existent and they would only take credit card over $30. Knuckle was flavorless unless you dip it in the chili sauce provided. Mashed potatoes were great. Don’t think I am interested in returning anytime soon.

Waited for almost half an hour to get my main course served.Had to asked the waitress twice for it and every time I was told it was coming. Several tables were served before me even came latter than me. I ordered Penang Curry with chicken. There's nothing but six tinny little slice of chicken in the curry. Taste lower than average level. Will definitely not go back!

Minimum 3+ for this place. That 2.x doesn’t really give the ratings for this place.

Service was fast and friendly and food was seriously good. Presentation not exactly what was in menu, but still not food court level.

I can recommend to take pork knuckle, which is (!!) top 3 level ever eaten - and have eaten those a lot from German to Filo variations. This most likely comes from the German-Thai fusion side.

Will go again!!

We were there tonight at 6pm. Downstairs was full but it was empty upstairs. When we gave our orders to the waitress, she kept telling us it wasn’t available as it had run out. So basically half the menu wasn’t available. No fish, no pork belly, no Gai Yang (bbq chicken), no calamari, no squid, three of the most common curries wasn’t available (no Panang curry, red curry or mussamum curry), no fish cake, no bbq pork.....and who knows what else. In the end we gave up and just asked her what was available and we ordered whatever there was which wasn’t much to choose from.

We were seriously considering walking out but we were too tired and hungry to walk around looking for another restaurant. What type of restaurant runs out of half the menu at 6pm on a Saturday night? They should have been up front with their customers rather than waste our time.

This has completely put me off going to the restaurant again.

The dishes we ordered (5 out of 6 dishes were good). The crispy pork leg was our favourite. As for the service....there wasn’t really any. The food arrived but we had no rice and we had to ask twice before they brought it. We had to keep asking them a few times for more rice and more water etc before it was brought to us. All the dirty dishes were left on tables when customers left. None of the tables were cleaned up.

I really want to be nice. But this place has the worst service i have encountered in my 55 years on this earth. I was courteous and polite but this was reciprocated by nasty and rude attitude. Please if you dont want to ruin your date night or time with your family. Please do yourself a favour and do not dine here.

Probably the worst dining experience ever. Service was horrible. The boy?with short hair and glasses was extremely unwelcoming and when we asked for a beer he told us there was none. He then went and served the person who sat behind us a Sapporo beer. We asked the other girl working for a lemon to have with my pad thai. She rolled her eyes infront of us then turned around and snickered in thai with her co worker. The food took 25 minutes to come out and they didn't even serve the beers first. After our food was served, with a bowl of cold steamed rice, then the beer was served. Absolute horrible experience, avoid at all costs!

Right in front of the Chatswood station so super convenient. I went for a mid week dinner with my friend who's a pescetarian. We were initially looking to order just vegetarian, but the menu choices on that is very limited, so we settled on the water spinach with garlic & chilli, and a late talay (spicy shrimps & squids with Thai herbs). The serving sizes were a bit small for the 2 of us (and we're not big eaters). The flavours of both dishes were really good though. The service was average at best, mostly indifferent. Maybe come back at lunch time for better deals.

Eclectic deco with decent selection lunch menu.
Only gripe I have is that (as with most Thai establishments) the portions were rather small.

Had the duck with egg noodle soup while partner had the the braised pork belly rice. Tasty with good flavours. Just I can’t get over that I was hungry at 5pm!!
More option to have breakfast around Chatswood around this day.
This place offering Thai style breakfast... off course 🍚 and 🍜 are involves.
All breaky will cost you $6, choices including Phad Thai, Thai style Hainam chicken rice, stew pork with Jasmine rice and some more option wide available.
Packed in take away container, easy and convenient, maybe a good option if you are over your normal scramble egg or Benedict!

Been here a couple of times, normally the service is pretty on point and the food comes quickly. The lunch special is good value, and super tasty. However on the most recent visit there was such a long wait for food to come out, and the staff were confused which dishes were going to which table. I’ve been here at least 4 times, and each time the prawn cake entree is ALWAYS SOLD OUT. Not sure why.

The food is excellent!!! A real surprise. This place is a worthy rival for Khao Pla. There are some minor quirks... The menu is a bit cumbersome and doesn't seem to mention plain rice or hot tea. The service was friendly enough but we were served the fried rice first, when it should always be served with the mains. However the food more than makes up for these quirks. Highly recommended!!!

very dirty and unprofessional as - found a caterpillar in my dish yet they claim that they ‘wash their vegetables’ before... do not go to this restaurant there are many other good thai places such as chum tang

Quite good service and environment. Upstairs more spacious. Food is quite good, soup quite sour kind of liked it, squid too bland not my preference, fried rice decent. Food not amazing but not bad, good if you want a different taste with more sourness, price not cheap not overly expensive either.

I saw someone on another table dilute her Thai milk tea with table water. Must be too sweet. The lunch deal is a bargain. Generous servings sizes and comes with a drink. I ordered the panang curry. Would have liked it to have vegetables instead of the meal consisting of all meat and a bowl of sauce. The sauce is nice though. There was also a fishcake fiasco. I had fishcake as my entree and it came after my meal. Not a big of a deal as it sounds. I just like using alliteration.

My friends and I eat here a lot and we always go back because of the unlimited drinks and the atmosphere of the place is great if you you want to have dinner at a chilled place with you friends.
We were disappointed tonight because after waiting half an hour for our food, we were told one of the dishes my friend ordered wasn’t available, then after waiting another ten minutes after that we were again told that another dish we ordered was also unavailable. After an hour of eating we realized our friend still hadn’t gotten his meal. When we asked about it and followed it up we the waiter said he forgot about the order and asked if we still wanted it or not. We obviously did since he haven’t eaten anything yet. We didn’t receive any apology and I thought it was just really rude how they handled the situation.
I don’t recommend getting the fried ice cream because there’s way too much coconut in it that it over powers all the flavours of it.
But if you want a place that does unlimited drinks and is a cool place to chill with average food then I do recommend it.

The place is near the chatswood train. The place is not so crowded during lunch time and they have second floor. So even if the first floor looks crowded don’t hesitant to ask them for a table. The staff is definitely friendly. Yes, they have toilet inside.

I’m eating a lunch set menu that cost me 12.90 including the drinks. The lunch set menu is under $ 20. The price depends on the drink you order , if you order soft drink that will cost you even cheaper. The thai milk tea has good balance it’s not too sweet or to creamy. The main dish is pretty good, one portion is enough for two people.

They also sell some Thai traditional sweet and heated takeaway dish in the frontside.

Based on repeat lunch visits as well as takeaway noodle dishes.

Unfortunately not the Thai flavours I prefer. There is a reasonable kick of chilli but not much else. Price for lunch set very competitive at $12 for one piece of entree, a main and a drink.

Tonight my boyfriend and I decided to take a chance and eat at Tawandan, Chatswood. We were on our way to a gathering and wanted a wholesome meal to see us through the night. What we received was anything but; the vegetarian curry puffs were bland and distasteful, with a mediocre sweet chilli sauce and a large wait for our entree (40 mins!!). There was a further wait for our main meal, which was overcooked. This meal was atrocious, with mushrooms that had a leathery, tough skin and baby corn that was obviously undercooked. Would not recommend.

Great casual atmosphere and very buzzing vibe as its just near the train station. Can see the trains arriving at the station which was my son's favorite part! We ordered a noodle, fried rice with salted fish, steamed mussels and a deep fried pork knuckle. The noodles and rice were excellent. However we found the mussels and pork hock a bit dry. Service was good and the place was really popular. They have upstairs seating too. We would come back for the noodles and rice dishes for sure.

Tawandang is the Thai chain restaurant which few different stores in Sydney as well as in Thailand. I got this Tom Yum Kung with glass noodles which was not bad, came with prawns, fishes, mushrooms and some lemongrass. I felt like its lacking something:(, not sure what, lol. The stock was good and addictive. Many lunches deals from $12-$15 including mini entree bites ( curry puff is always my choice) main and drinks, and some deals for groups, not bad, worth trying.

Came here on a Sunday noon. The lunch set meals are value for money. Comes with a main dish, drinks, and an entrée. The green curry chicken was alright. Tom kla (soup with coconut milk) was okay too, though lack of solid ingredients. They could of added more chicken into it. Service and ambience were also okay.

They have many new dishes that we've never ever seen at other Thai Restaurants. Meatball and squid soup has a sour and sweet base which is quite strange to us. Giant Salad combo is nice. My Thai colleague said this restaurant serves authentic Thai food. Worth to give a try

I don't normally give negative feedback on Zomato, but this one did disappoint me. We only ordered lunch special, fried flat noodle and green curry and rice. The rice and noodle are all very very soft and over cooked! Green curry is vey watery. Don't want to talk about the flavor or anything else.

Food was awful, don't order the Tom yum rice noodles, the noodles taste like plastic, strange flavor and my husband ordered a set from their lunch menus waited for 20 minutes, they totally forgot about it.

If you've ever been to Chinatown, chances are you've probably walked past Tawandang although you might not have noticed it. You'd be forgiven for thinking it was just your average Thai restaurant. It's not until you read their menu and realise that it's so typical afterall- offering not only some more traditional Thai dishes, but also their almost signature dish of German Pork Knuckle. How's that for something different?

Service is extremely poor, over charging with horrible food. In fact, the the calamari was served half cooked today, simply using micro wave to speed it up with no taste. It's such a disappointment. I waited at least 15 mins for my lemon juice to arrive and 25 mins for my dish to arrive.

After finishing all my food ( this includes separate 2 lemon juices, one fry rice and one calamari ) when I was asking for the "all you can drink package", the girl in the reception area say I had eaten there for longer than 50 mins, and as result cannot order that package. Now, keep in mind I didn't start with "all you can drink package" firstly I started with two separate lemon juices as drinks. Secondly I had to wait 30 mins for all my dishes on the table. Whose fault was that? How is that fair? Thirdly, the staff never told me there is a time duration or constraint for ordering drinks at first place. That more I think about it, the more angry I get.

I was thirsty because of chilli from the calamari dish so eventually I had to give in and order extra drinks. But the feeling is very unsettling~~😢

Pray this restaurant either change its staff or close down for good!! I will never recommend to my families or friends.

Got the wrong food from their take away.
The squid with egg york is good. Staffs are quite inexperienced, takes long time to order and confirms your order in Thai.

A 2-storey Thai restaurant open from 8am-10pm and located right next to Chatswood station. The food is so-so; there are other Thai restaurants that have better atmosphere and taste better. All the wait staff are kind but inexperienced - it took 13 minutes just to get an extra bowl of rice and my drink was completely forgotten (it wasn't even busy). Hopefully they'll pick up the pace and make the place more lively; it was such a gloomy and deadly quiet atmosphere when I went there.

Super convenient location right in front of Chatswood station. The menu here seems to be similar to the city branch but I personally thought the food tasted better, perhaps because it's less crowded. Highlights were the deep-fried pork knuckle, the century eggs with basil and mince and the soft-bone pork soup. I'd skip the pork curry in the future as it was too sweet. Lovely service and a terrific option for large groups as there's plenty of seating on the second floor.
