Review Xin Jiang Handmade Noodle - Chatswood

Jennifer C
No frills dining, self service. Good portions with reasonable prices. The hand pulled noodles are the speciality. Would not recommend the dumplings here (don’t taste good and many of them over cooked to the point where the skins are served broken!) Check your bill before paying. Have been overcharged a number of times.

Loved the texture of the handmade noodles. I especially enjoyed the taste of the fried sauce noodles. The taste of stir-fried noodles was just average. The lamb skewer was good quality and very flavorful. Very big serving so both my partner and I had to take home the leftovers.

Disappointing experience, each to their own because this place’s noodles is nowhere near the quality of top hand made noodle restaurants. This is tucked away on top of a building where you have to enter through a small door and go upstairs. Decor is old style to fit the vibe, though I find the place a little dirty. Ordered the beef noodles and it was quite average, nothing to rave about. Ordered the won tons as well and were deeply disappointed. Clearly frozen and just reheated - you can smell the freezer smell in the fridge. Price is NOT cheap, it’s at the same as or a bit higher than other, better places and I would suggest even a little pricey. Plenty of other, better options available.

Had fried lamb noodles and lamb vegetables naan. Portions were big. Food was delicious. Perfect for a rainy day. Friendly staff too.

Have been to various xinjiang hand made noodle restaurants in the past, this is a pretty good one. The shallot pancake was crispy not too oily or salty. The soup base was clean and doesn’t make you thirsty afterwards. The only thing that subtracted the star was the $2 additional “inflation” fee on each menu item ordered. Average menu item price $15? $2 is running much higher than inflation.

I just love this place. We have been coming here since 2015, when our kids were little. The food is awesome and reasonably priced. But this is also the classic family business where the people are friendly and you’re always made to feel special. Staff are often seen hand making the noodles and dumplings and they are delicious. Can’t speak highly enough. Try the dumpling soup and the spring pancakes. Amazing!!

This is definitely our go-to restaurant whenever we want to have handmade noodles. Their food is delicious and great noodles. The kids love the noodles here. Best noodle restaurant in Sydney. Their customer service is very good too. Highly recommended.

The dumplings came out like this… I have no idea how they cooked. We also ordered stir fried lamb with shallots and the meat was dried and overcooked. In my opinion, it’s overpriced. Worst dinning experience I’ve ever had in Chatswood.

I enter Xin Jiang Hand Made Noodles by walking up the stairs with a sharp right. I walk past the lady that is thumping the dough to make the hand made noodles. We are seated immediately. I decide to arrive early at 11am at Xin Jiang Hand Made Noodles in Chatswood. It was good timing as there was just one other table at the venue. I've been here several times as it's one of my local eateries. Check out my last visit to Xin Jiang Hand Made Noodles.

The thing that stood out the most is that the lady taking the order (most likely owner) was very friendly and helpful in helping us decide what to eat. Also, free tea!

We tried several dishes but my favorite was the jellyfish salad. Roasted lamb bun comes in an egg and chive version which I really enjoyed. Also, their hand made noodle texture is much softer (less chewy) than others I've had. It all depends on your personal preference but it's not my favorite. Having said that, I would return to try some of their soup noodle dishes.

Absolutely delicious Northern Chinese food and polite and kind owners. I ordered the lamb noodle soup which was full of flavour without tasting like a pot of MSG. The shallot pancake was delicious as well. I’ve glad I finally tried this place and I highly recommend it. Best in the Mandarin Centre food court.

The noodles here were pretty good, especially the stir fried noodles. Will come back for it. Lamb sticks were good too - go for mild or small spicy though - because the normal spicy was VERY spicy. The decor of the place is aged though

Real score is 3.5. Basic, no frills, café style upstairs restaurant. People here are super nice. We could see them making the dumplings. The food was good although not exceptional. Enjoyed the pan fried dumplings and the noodles. They both tasted like they were freshly made. The dumplings were quite dense and filling. The noodles were the highlight of the evening. As others mentioned, they were deliciously chewy. There was a good balance of meat, vegetables and noodles. Prices are reasonable and portions are good.

Great portion!!!!!!!! Friendly and quick service, non peak lunch hour gets 20% off from Monday to Thursday. Handmade noodles were chewy, which was I like the most.

Late night dumpling hankering’s hit us hard last Sunday and we were desperate to find somewhere that was still open at 9pm. We decided to come here because we saw that they had dumplings on their menu despite being a noodle focused place.

We got their pan fried pork buns and their steamed pork dumplings, and I loved the buns so much. Juicy and delicious and packed with mince. The steam dumplings were good but definitely not the best. I imagine that the noodle dishes would be better, so I’ll be back to try those at some point.

I first ordered the beef soup with hand made noodles and BBQ lamb skewers but then switched the lamb skewers for a xian nang bread. The noodles were delicious and the nang bread was exceptional. The service was friendly. Very happy with the experience

Always best to stick to dishes the restaurant’s name is based on. On this day however, we were both craving dumplings and were finding it surprisingly difficult to get some in Chatswood for one reason or another. Crazy to be met with this problem in Chatswood but I forget which day this was. It could have been a public holiday of some sort as the dumpling specialty places were closing early or not open at all!

Either way Xin Jiang had dumplings on their menu and that was good enough for us. There was a slight wait but this could only mean the food was good and worth waiting for, right? We ordered ourselves some boiled pork dumplings and steamed vegetarian dumplings. You don’t necessarily have to order one for each person as I believe it’s a little over one serving, but when you can’t come to an agreement what can you do but overeat a little.

The pork dumplings were okay, definitely not stand out, however the vegetarian ones were really not that great. No love or thought gone into them at all. On top of that, they actually mixed up a meat filled one with the vegetarian ones…. can’t see that going down too well with an actual vegetarian.

Although this experience could have been better, their strong point seem to be noodles so can’t hate too much. Probably won’t go back but if you do, perhaps try their noodles instead.

Great food and huge portion. Very authentic. The noodle is excellent.

Delicious hand-made noodles. A quick service of delicious noodles, and fried dumplings today, not overcrowded like the chatswood food court. Loved it! The chilli jellyfish salad is incredible too.

Similar to the Uighur places in the city. Noodles are the pick here. Really chewy and good flavour.

I wanted to go for the noodles, but the Boy preferred the sound of fried rice, which he came to regret ordering. I quite enjoyed it, as bits of the rice were hard and chewy (see 2nd photo), like the crunchy bottom layer that's left over after you cook rice (in a rice cooker or a stone pot). However, it was these favoured bits that made the Boy wrinkle his nose in distaste - apparently he hates bibimbap too. No wonder he never orders any at Dukbaegi :/

Best chinese food ever!. If you want to try some delicious handmade xinjiang noodles this is the place to be. The food is freshly made and cooked before it is served to you. I love everything on the menu especially the chicken and noodle dish. Best place to eat if you want authentic xinjiang food without leaving the country :)

Not very authentic to be honest. Price is ok. But not as great as the ones in china town.
