Review Chatswood Bbq Kitchen - Chatswood

I ordered the roast pork and crispy noodle from the lunch special menu, both are great and this place is recommended if you want to find a cheap eat in Chatswood area

Afternoon tea set from 14:30 to 17:00 consisted of 5 choices and a free hot drink. Decent portion and good value. Service is standard.

Good place in Chatswood for BBQ meat, we ordered the BBQ pork and Duck/Crispy Pork with dry noodles. BBQ pork was nice and juicy and the crispy pork skin was crunchy. Lots of other options too that I will have to try, they are open during lockdown too.

Classic Chinese bbq, super quick service. Easy to see why this place has been around so long

This is the first time we are having our dinner in this small restaurant, we booked beforehand and asked for what time will be the last booking, they said 8pm. Then I booked 8pm. They have a signage showing 1/2 kg crab for $49.80, I did ask them to keep one for me and they said will do. However, when we arrived, they said our booking should be 6pm, then they showed me the crab and asked if this is fine, , I asked if this was $49.80? and they said no, they said $49.80 is for 1/2 kg and all the 1/2kg crab has gone, the one they showed me was $130, more than a double. If I did not ask, they did not even prepare to tell me the price, more over, such a small restaurant, not very high class, but a normal size vegetable costs $20.90. In Eastwood or Carlingford, same size of the vegetables normally cost nothing when you order a set dinner with three to four dishes. Another dish we ordered was crispy chicken, very dry and no good, the source is really bad to me. We asked for table water, no turn up at all. We ordered rice, no turned up until we chased for it. Although My daughter likes the lobster, we definitely will not go to this restaurant any more. Very bad experience.

Food taste nice, bit pricey but definitely worth it

Great food and service (for this type of restaurant) price is very reasonable. Roast pork belly is best in town but you may need to go there early or reserve it if you are going to book a table. Lobster on special and what a budget dish if you can't handle a fresh one and cook in Chinese style by yourself.

Cosy Hong Kong style restaurant/cafe. i like the booths. We went for the lobster and crab special. The lobster noodles comes in two flavours: ginger shallot or butter sauce with lots of noodles. The crab vermicelli was very tasty. Service was very good, staff was friendly. We totally over ordered. Def will come more often when I’m in the area.

Decent food with affordable prices. Unless you know the servers well, they’re not always the friendliest. It’s not the most hygienic place either but it’s definitely a place to go for a hearty Hong Kong meal at a good price.
Pinicolada
Typical Hong Kong style restaurant but the prices are not the typical Hong Kong or even the cheap eat prices. I had the Peking duck meal and I was still hungry afterwards.

I am living in Chatswood area and I am a crab lover. Nearly every week I will go for crab meal. Today I went to this place with my girl friend have lunch. We ordered crab and cooked the way I normally do. But when the crab come it was stinky and the meat didn’t look fresh. We ask manager to come and showed him and after he smelled the crab he took a piece and went to kitchen then came back offering some discount for that same crab. Of course we did not accept that. I told the manager all I want is a nice meal a good crab meal. He left and never appeared again.
In the end we had to pay full price and went somewhere to finish our lunch.
This restaurant remind me of my trip to Hong Kong! Very busy restaurant, but everyone’s here because the food is great!
My bbq Pork was amazing! And it’s only 11-ish dollar! Will definitely come back again!
Service was okay! Fast pace dine in and out within an hour!

Again, bbq Pork was amazing! Will come back for chicken next time!
appallingly bad service. seriously the worst waitimg staff i have ever had the displeasure of interacting with.

food is ok but overpriced.
$33.50 for steamed barramundi

hygeine could be improved

there are 5 or more better bbq restaurants within 100 metres

The staff here is very rude. Has a bad attitude, actively ignoring the customers. Ordered the BBQ pork and duck, those were ok. Also tried their special seafood noodles... That was very bad.

Duck is pretty good but the lady who collects money at the counter has a serious attitude problem, and not in an expectedly-bad-chinese-service kinda way, but she’s next level - probably seen many deaths in her time- type mean.

Chatswood BBQ Kitchen is an overpriced Cantonese restaurant which dispense some ridiculously disappointing BBQ meats. Located on the row of shophouses on Victoria Avenue in Chatswood, the spacious restaurant is filled with quick Cantonese banter on a Sunday morning.

I ordered their combination meats, which comprised a portion of BBQ char siew, roast duck and soy sauce chicken. All the meats were cold and hard and probably suggested that they were prepared ages ago. The chicken was overcooked whereas the roast duck was simply unchewable.

The wanton noodles, soaked in alkaline broth, was soggy and mushy. The wanton skin was loosely wrapped and fell off my spoon easily when I grabbed them.

Quality food, generous servings and lovely staff. This is my go-to Chinese restaurant. I go out of my way to get takeaway from there. My favourite dishes are the BBQ pork, soy sauce chicken and beef brisket hotpot. You can't go wrong with those!

Can't comment on BBQ as they were sold out but late night dinner was good. San choy bow and beef brisket noodle. Both very tasty, nice master stock if not a tad salty. Super tender, gelatinous beef, silky noodles, massive serve and good value. Atmosphere standard, service a bit terse. Going back to try the bbq
Have been their regular customer for Hong Kong barbeques. But This is my first time to have dinner here. Highly recommend their fish soup and prawn vermicelli in xo sauce. Their sweet and sour pork and lemon chicken are below average, too much dough..
Fussy Foodie
Good location for a Hong Kong Barbecue, with a convenient location for many people to come for a quick takeaway. Aesthetic design could be improved with less 'clutter' (posters on the windows). The barbecue tenderloin pork was tasty, however I do think the price was a bit above what is should be.
TASTE & TABOO
There is no shortage of Chinese BBQ places, however BBQ Kitchen is a nose above the rest with excellent BBQ pork (siu yok) and a menu that, in most cases, lets you choose which meat you want on your dish.

You can also buy the BBQ meats out the front, and take it away. Local tip: try to do this earlier in the day, as they sell out of popular meats

No frills but really tasty and good value if you're craving a Hong Kong BBQ.
We went for the choice of 3 meats and had chicken duck and roast pork along with a side of bitter melon. Rice for two was huge. Next time I'd probably try the crispy pork instead of duck and ditch bitter melon for something else. Nice to have the complementary tea too, as not everywhere has it.

Price: Fair
Portion: 2/5
Service: Great (Quick to order, and food came out relatively fast though the place was fairly busy)
Please note: This review does NOT include their BBQ meat options!
Black Pepper Baked Pork Chop with Spaghetti (Has an option with rice as well) - 3/5 - Comes with a free hot drink (Other drinks available with surcharge), cheese and corn was nice
Cons: Too much black pepper and quite small

You can follow me on Instagram: alexyduongy

Come here for the BBQ pork and duck. The fish soup is rich but you can taste quit a bit of msg. Waiters and Waitress are very rude. No card allowed only cash.

Stop here once in a while for their BBQ or a quick lunch. To be honest most of the stuff on the menu and their service are a bit average, but their BBQ are great and you'll often see a queue on the weekend as people buy takeaway. I got some takeaway this time. The queue was about 15 minutes, and I was lucky to get the last poached chicken. The chicken was very moist, nicely flavoured (not salty) and melt in your mouth, every piece of chicken was tasty, even the breast meat was not dried. Only wish they would give me more ginger & shallot to go with the chicken, I always run out!

We visited this place endless times, each time we found an amazingly good food however the ambiance is average, Staff members are friendly.

Hong Kong style cafe with every dish under the sun however it appears Zomato only uploaded half their menu as the quirky yet popular take on western dishes are missing such a Baked Tuna Pasta, Baked Cod on Rice or their moreish Fish soup noodles or home made fish or cuttlefish balls.

The main attraction is the BBQ hanging proudly at the front and although I have tried them many times, I still come to the same conclusion that despite their hugely busy business, their duck is just not marinated enough to permeate the meat. Equally as unforgiving is the crispy skin pork where most of the skin/crackling is undercooked or not prepped enough forming sections of hard or chewy skin. To top it off, the twin bbq plate (2 BBQ options) was overpriced at $27.90, up 22% from the $22.80 price on the menu uploaded by Zomato.

The Seafood and Tofu Hotpot was cooked well and presented like a proper restaurant dish with large prawns and glistening seafood. However, there was too much tofu and vegetables towards the bottom of the clay pot which is just poor form.

The pricing is quite deceiving for the concept. You have to realise that coming to a Hong Kong style cafe/bbq, you should order their specialty as this is what they try and keep real to appeal to and get validation from the Hong Kong/Cantonese community. For a Hong Kong style cafe, the hero dishes are those single meal dishes such as pork chop rice, baked pasta, soup noodles, fried noodles and their sweet teas and bubble cup style drinks. Dishes must be authentic, generous and tasty and above all, well priced.

However, the exception to this which they have gladly embraced is the a la carte dishes where there is a significant jump in the price which really does not fit into the general theme of this type of cafe. Hong Kong Cafe (located closer to central Chatswood) has pricing much more synonymous with this style of restaurant.

Therefore, it does not surprise me one bit that the reviews for this place vary greatly. For me, if I had the BBQ alone, I would be disappointed but if I ordered their Fish Soup Noodles I would be experiencing a rich fish stock, or when it's a special on the menu, it could be trusted.

Nothing wrong here. Food is good. Read a lot of bad reviews here. Do not understand. Char sui and BBQ duck meats were tender and tasty. Combo soup stock tasty, noodles perfectly cooked. Generous meats. Will return.

Overall, I rate Chatswood BBQ Kitchen a 7.5 out of 10. It’s fantastic value if you’re looking for a simple, tasty meal like you would find in a traditional Chinese kitchen. However if you’re looking for bells, whistles, and service with a smile, it’s not the type of place you want to go.
I actually went and ate lunch there myself. I was around Chatswood and hungry and felt like bbq pork and chicken and craving for my HK style milk tea . So I went in, had a lovely cheap and yummy lunch. 308 Victoria Avenue, Chatswood Eastern suburbs Select Eastern suburbs Bondi Bondi B

Wandering on Victoria Avenue at Chatswood, we searched Urbanspoon for an authentic Hong Kong style Chinese BBQ restaurant. Chatswood BBQ Kitchen fell into our radar, the roast duck and roast pork looked very delicious from the display window! The restaurant was very busy with diners and also people waiting to buy takeaway roast duck. Mr F had a Roast Duck Leg and Chicken in Soy Sauce with Rice , he is a roast duck maniac and everywhere he goes he’ll search for an authentic roast duck , this dish looked pretty good but he said the taste was only average. My dish was a BBQ Pork and Roast Pork, Cantonese people are so smart they can cook the same type of meat in two completely different styles Chatswood BBQ Kitchen Address: 308 Victoria Ave Chatswood NSW 2067 Phone: 02 9419 6532

Absolutely terrible food! So tasteless!!! BEWARE. Please save your money and time! There are too many good asian restaurants to waste your time on pretenders!!

Be careful of getting short changed when ordering takeway BBQ chicken or duck. Food is reasonable and efficient.

Downsides are:
1) The waiters here have been trained to routinely sell you live seafood (crabs, pipi's), so when you order seafood from the menu they might ask you to try the 'live' seafood options instead. At times, they get a bit pushy. They should understand that not every customer has to eat live seafood every time they go out and eat.

2) They do not allow credit card or EFTPOS, only cash. I mean, if they want to go a bit upmarket and sell more 'live seafood' , the bill would cost over $100 for say, 3 persons or more. It is totally unacceptable to expect people to pay by cash only in that kind of situation. Aren't the owners somewhat stingey in not wanting to even pay for credit card merchant fees?

3) For those of you who enjoy a cup of Hong Kong style milk tea (you can pick either hot or cold), the 'hot' ones they serve here are nowhere up to scratch- most of the time they are lukewarm at best, and sometimes not even warm at all.

4) In my past experience, they tend to reserve the best pieces of soy chicken and roast duck for the customers who are dining in, so if you order a takeaway roast duck or chicken, they would sneakily short-change you by removing a meaty piece away if you are not watching them chop it. Once I noticed there was very little meat in my takeaway soy chicken- mostly skin on bone parts, the neck, the bum etc). For that reason I buy my BBQ chicken and duck from the shop on nearby Spring Street.

5) On public holidays they charge a $2.50 surcharge per person, instead of having a special public holiday menu with adjusted prices.

Delivers exactly what you would expect from it.. I enjoyed my experience. Arrived at 7:30PM on a Friday night with no reservation, was instantly seated and the food came within 5 minutes. Service came with a smile, as opposed to another reviewers experience. I ordered BBQ Pork, Roast Pork and Roast duck with rice for $13.80. Excellent value. Someone else ordered Tendered Chicken Hotpot, which was better than average, but not stellar. Another friend ordered fried noodle with chicken and vegetables, which was underwhelming. The pork was the best thing on the menu in my opinion, duck was second best. I would avoid the noodle based dishes and hotpots, while nice, Chatswood BBQ Kitchen is all about the BBQ!

Yucky Ducky. While the portions are huge and cheap, there was definitely no love shown towards the BBQ duck we ordered. The skin was not crispy and very oily and the flavour was weird. The spring rolls were over cooked and soooooo greasy. We ordered steamed broccoli was ok. Won't be coming back. Oh, and they only take cash, which is annoying (common now it's the 21st century).

About as bad as it gets. Seriously the worst customer service I've experienced anywhere! Waiters are rude. Ordering in English was a problem and the dish they brought out was nothing like what we had ordered. They did exchange it but reluctantly and with all sorts of eye-rolling and snorting disapproval.

Food was average - there are 3 or 4 better Chinese BBQ restaurants within one block. I will definitely not be going back.

And they don't accept EFTPOS - we had to walk to an ATM after the meal.

Just basically unacceptable for a restaurant in this day and age.

No thanks. Please check the name and shame section of the NSW Food Authority website before eating at this place, 12 convictions and fines in the last two years. The latest fine was for obstructing the sink in which the staff are supposed to wash their hands!

http://www.foodauthority.nsw.gov.au/penalty-notices/default.aspx?template=results&abc=show&startswith=C

SERVICE? ATMOSPHERE?. Food is reasonable for its reasonable price, however the service and its general experience is a whole different story.

Been in a few times before, though the last visit had really put us off in ever coming back, if the level of service they offer persist.

First of all, staff were not at all interested in being there. They shouted us in Chinese, and hoarded us to an empty (dirty) table, and told us to sit. Waitress came and cleaned the table with a dirty cloth, in such frantic manner that dirty food scraps were flung around to other patrons sitting directly next to us and onto our laps - no apologies.

Secondly, the atmosphere was chaotic felt like we were in a zoo. Staff can be heard shouting at each other in the kitchen and were no where to be found. We waited awhile for someone to come and take our orders. If only they were not only paying attention to those customers that can shout in Chinese demanding to be served.

The waiter eventually came to take our order by not saying a single word or giving us any eye contact, and did not even repeat our orders (we weren't even sure if it's correct). Left the table without saying 'anything else?' or a simple 'thank you...' Just left us without giving us the chance to order our drinks.

The manager(s) should really take a look at this matter and monitor it closely, as it is such a shame if patrons are no longer returning under these circumstances, which can be easily eradicated.
Kimmie Chin
The food is standard however service is totally unacceptable. I was confirming my order twice still they send us wrong dishes. Further to that the waiter deny his mistake and ask me to read the order list which he wrote in Chinese I said I can't read his hand writing and he goes 'you go check the dictionary' how rude was that!!!!! Unacceptable and manager simply say thank you for coming without apology.
