Review Shanghai Stories 1938 - Chatswood

Great place to dine in chatswood. Highly recommend booking a table due to the amount of people which were arriving as we were paying to leaving, which was around 6pm on a Friday. We decided to have an early dinner at Chatswood concourse. We arrived at 5:03pm and the hostess asked if we had a reservation even though there was no one in the restaurant. We were seated straight away. There is a large array of food choices on the menu. The food was exquisite. Fresh, tasteful and good size servings.

Just average, great environment with the outdoor seating, they served us rice when we almost finish all our dishes

Rather overpriced yum cha with faded seats, poor service with little English language skills. Broccoli undercooked, pan fried dumplings overcooked. Siu mai passable, xiao long bao meh.

I was debating on giving this place either a 2 star review or a 3 start review, but ive given this place 2 based on whether or not id come back (which i would not). The food is extremely mediocre for the price and we had to wait 45 minutes for the dumplings. The service varies from waiter to waiter but it was not anything special.

Very sloppy service and food quality does not reflect the relatively expensive prices. I would not recommend eating here. Service was not that good. For example, one server started vacuuming in the middle of service. Also, there is a 2% surcharge to pay by Visa or MasterCard (3% for AMEX). The food was ok. Despite on the menu saying the vegetables would be served with ginger sauce, it was served with no ginger sauce. The server then told us th dish comes with no sauce. As a substitute, they provided a weak and flavourless oyster sauce that added nothing to the already basic vegetables. tldr: quality and service doesn't justify price, food served wasn't description in menu. Not recommended.

I have read the other reviews and I don't think they are a fair review. I have been here twice and both times the services was very good. A girl pretty much waiting right by our table ready to take our order. The food was also great, I have yet to have a single dish there I did not really enjoy. Pork belly with bread is a personal favorite. Only downside is perhaps the prices on some items.

Fantastic food, good service, great for groups. Their seafood dish were particularly excellent, although perhaps not strictly Shanghai style. We were a rather large group of 12, but the wait staff were well coordinated to service our table. The floor manager (owner?) was also very accommodating to our special requests.

An overall decent dining experience. I have dined here both for lunch and dinner. The food here is traditional Chinese but certainly will suit western tastes. They are generally clean and well presented. The price is reasonable, not cheap, but also won't break the bank.
