Review Masita Sushi - Chatswood

H
This Japanese restaurant is a little out of the way being upstairs in Victoria Plaza and away from most foot traffic. Nevertheless, this place does have a solid following and it was 80% full when we visited. It is not a large restaurant and it is run by, we presume, a husband and wife team. The food is very good and of solid value. Sashimi was fresh and the tempura was freshly made and not oily at all. With a small team, there is minimal attention once the order is taken but the food is the focus and they arrived in good order. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

The food was so fresh and so tasty! Everything we ordered was phenomenal - my family and I had a wonderful time. I didn’t quite understand when I read reviews like “every dish was made with love”, but let me tell you, after you eat here- it all makes sense! Try the teriyaki fish, creamy pasta udon and the sashimi 🥰

We were looking for a good Japanese restaurant for sushi and sashimi and found this little gem tucked away - fresh and well presented, and polite and helpful waitstaff. Will definitely be back again to try other dishes

I have to say this hidden 1st floor Japanese bistro somehow has stayed hidden from view and yet once discovered you cannot take back what you will experience. Fresh and flavourful, tasty and encouraging. Give it a go!

Always accomodating for my small family, remember us and what we like. We have been coming for years now and now that we live nearby, plan to make it more often. It’s nice to be recognised by the owners and the service is perfect. The chef presents each dish with love. Best food in Chatswood with a very clean and cozy place to enjoy it. It was heartbreaking to see a group of difficult customers come in, but the owners handled them so gracefully, respectfully and professionally. Everyone who eats here is happy and has a good time.

Masita Sushi is situated upstairs from Victoria Plaza in Chatswood. They offer a great range of Japanese and Korean food. My favourite? Have you seen the sashimi platter below!

This is the best japanese (especially, sushi and sashimi) restaurant I ever had. The meal quality is all extremely high-level. This is the best place for real. I just do not want to recommend any other place if you want to have japanese food.

Sashimi was pretty good - not amazing though. Sushi rolls were really good, I got the unagi, grilled salmon, double tempura prawn and soft shell crab. The curry was sort of watered down though. I also ordered the cheese and bulgogi don - the cheese was the crappy plastic cheese so that was a bit disappointing.

Me and my partner were decided to go on a japanese food hunt for a chill and casual night out. We found this little place that seems to be hidden away from the buzz of chatswood cbd. Initial impression were friendly staff and fast service.

We ordered nigiri sushi, california roll, salmon roll and soba. All taste really nice and authentic and especially with the nigiri sushi and cold soba!!!! Highly recommended. Will definitely come back!
Pretty decent sushi place and the special sashimi us plated very well. The cuts of the fish was pretty good especially the salmon belly.

The seafood tofu stew is also quite good as well, lot of meat inside and tofu was very smooth.

Yes, I like bulgogi and udon and though Masita Sushi offers such standard fare, it was the sushi that attracted me. You need to understand that I like sushi. I really do.

The photos online were promising. The sashimi and sushi toppings actually looked fresh and so taking the plunge I headed off to downtown Chatswood for lunch.

A simple but pleasant and cleanly modern decor greeted me. The smiling staff were pleasant which is always nice. Sitting down to order, the $15 nine-piece sushi set was superbly priced and so I went with that.

Like the decor, the plate was simple, clean and pleasantly arranged. The sushi toppings were fresh, each with their own individual flavours and textures. But with four salmon pieces, two octopus, two fried tofu pouches and one snapper... well, I felt a little let down.

And then, recalling the photos, I had another look at the menu. There was an a la carte sushi listing and I thought, okay, let's see what they've got.

I ordered one each of salmon belly, oyster, surf clam and eel. After a few minutes, it was served. I had a good look at the plating. A funny vibe came over me and I had the distinct feeling of sincerity. Somebody was actually trying to do a good job.

The salmon belly went first. Yum. I didn't expect that. I tried the oyster next. Wow. It melted nicely. Things were on the up. The surf clam, while not as engaging, was fresh and textural. Finally, the eel. Wow! It was warm and dissolved lovingly.

My whole demeanor changed after those four pieces of sushi. And at an average of $3 per sushi, I wanted more. Sure, the rice could have been more in tune with its toppings and based on that you couldn't say that Masita Sushi was world class sushi but really, how many places are?

What I can say is that the sushi I ate was an honest attempt at good quality. That is something worth respecting.

Masita Sushi, I will be back.

I had zirasi sashimi don (hui dup bap) for lunch. Really delicious and full of veggie, salmon and some random sashimi. One of the best sashimi don i ever tried in Sydney. Definitely two thumps up!!!

The food really surprised me. The fried sardines is worth to try, very crunchy and juicy, the taste of sardines becames very good with a pinch of salt. Spicy fried udon is slightly salty to me but the texture of udon is chewable and well cooked. Sashimi is in good quality and recommended. Double Tempura prawn roll, prawn match well with avocado, it makes the mouthfeel very good.

The service at this restaurant is great, I came on a Friday night and they were not short staffed at all. The sign out the front says that they have fresh fish daily, and they were not lying. The sashimi and sushi were top quality, and the portions are generous! Perhaps I'm just too used to the other Japanese restaurants around Chatswood. Definitely give this place a try, and I'll definitely come back for some more fresh and tasty sushi!
