The Monkey Bar is a cosy bar that has been transformed many times over the years from bar to bistro and now to semi pokies, Tab and local bar. Pokies are their predominant trade having their steady stream of regularr. But from a hospitality side of things, I think it has finally found its footing having a different theme everyday and accomodating to locals and hospitality staff with its 3am closing time.
For me, the hook is their 'Top Shelf' nights on Tues/Thu where Chivas, Makers Mark, Grey Goose and Hendricks are $6 from 6pm-12am. Aside from drinking at home, I don't think you will find a better deal at any bar in Sydney. It's a great opportunity to catch up with friends and on a few occasions and you don't end up burning a hole through your wallet. I love the Chelsea hotel with work colleagues and it's a local institution with plenty of great memories but its a totally different feel to the more initimate Monkey bar where you could talk in comfort.
The waitresses are very hospitable and get to know the regulars as you can see many of them chat with the customers of a first name basis.
Nice quiet pub with excellent customer service and cheap beer
Average. Small interior, smoking space smell comes into main seating area, so not much point to the constantly opening and closing doors. The drinks are what you'd get at any bar. Probably wouldn't go here again, as it was small, loud, crowded and there isn't any food.
Try it if you're in Chatswood, start of drinks with a few Soju Jugs for the ripe price of $16 ea not to mention ample gaming and tab facilities with a balcony to enjoy a drink or you can head upstairs occasionally to watch the live footy
