Review Frank's Cafe - Cheltenham

Sisa
We had a very nice experience here. The coffee was great and the food was absolutely amazing. Also the staff were very professional and nice. I appreciate that they automatically give you water on arrival - both still and sparkling. Don’t know what else to add - just perfect! 👌🏼👌🏼
Mr Lee
What a fantastic place. Took the family here for brunch once and we kept going back. Great open atmosphere with a lot of energy about the place. The staff here are super friendly and cheery. They interact with everyone on the table, including the kids. We’ve been back three weeks in a row and tried something different from the menu each time - and every time the food has been fantastic. The Chilli Scrambled Eggs is easily the best I’ve had in Melbourne. Great little place to try if you’re ever in the area.

Absolutely delicious!!! The fries were perfectly seasoned, and the Katsu Sando was so yum! New favourite cafe. Compared to a lot of cafes, this place has really good value food. You get amazing quantities for a reasonable price. The staff were all nice and showed genuine interest for feedback. The service was quick and we had our food in no time at all! Would 100% recommend this place to anyone!

Friendly service, good coffee, amazing food. I had the lamb pita - very generous portion size for $17. Definitely worth checking out!
Pretzelpanda
Pork belly with the benedict was delish, and not many sweet options but the bircher muesli was tasty and well presented. Will come back to try more on the menu!

Franks is an amazing local cafe! We've been coming here for a while and it's one of our favourites. The staff are always friendly, food is delicious and most importantly they have the best coffee! I love their "Order Ahead" link on their website. Super handy to order before leaving the house and just picking up when we get there if we wanted take away. They're family friendly with kids menus and coloring in sheets, and room for prams and highchairs. I've also been here for business meetings and they're very accommodating. Great outdoor dining as well with recently updated tables and benches out the front. Highly recommend!

Extraordinary! I had Beetroot and Salmon, meticulous selection of perfect ingredients and sumptuous taste. Great job Franks.

When you see the reviews are 4.5 stars + you know you're in for a treat. A quick visit for coffee and a sweet treat was not disappointing. The place was buzzing with patrons, some who were obviously regulars by the interaction with staff. Even though I was just grabbing a quick coffee and cake, I was served with a big smile and they were happy to fill my reusable Frank Green cup. Did have a quick toilet stop - interesting art work!I also perved on the meals coming out to the tables. Portion sizes looked good and certainly everything was colourful and appeared fresh. I'll have to come back, sit and dine here.Although it's not in a mainstream location, it's well worth a visit and certainly others make their way here for a reason.Notes: wheelchair accessible, kid friendly, reasonable parking.

We came by on a weekend and ordered the chilli scrambled eggs with sausage and the poached eggs with salmon. We also ordered a side of fries to share. Both dishes were well-presented. The scrambled eggs were creamy and fluffy and I loved that the toast was buttered. The poached eggs were oozy and the dish was well-balanced. I also loved that the tables were larger than normal so you don’t feel like you are running out of space. I would come back and try their other dishes.

Great friendly service. Coffee was served nice and hot and tasted good, although soy milk was a little curdled. Did not wait long for food or coffee. Nicest gluten free toast I have had in a while and they serve interesting take on traditional porridge. Second time eating here and would gladly return again.

Great coffee, yummy food and really helpful and friendly staff! Will definitely be making this a regular of mine

The best burger that I've ever had from a cafe. The combination of their house Big Mac sauce and the barbeque sauce was excellent. The chips while a bit over fried made up for it with delicious salt and seasoning.

Frank's is fantastic. The service was fantastic, the recommendations the waitress gave was spot on. The food was beautiful and the coffee was very good. So looks like there is any place I need to add to my list of "So good" cafes.

Super friendly staff that aim to know your name every time you go in. The coffee is great as well!

Came here because the new place Levi is brilliant. What a shame this place was a major let down.
The staff were very disorganised. It was busy but not hectic. Walked in and were given a table, only to be ignored and not have our order taken. A group walked in and we were told they had booked the table we had been seated at.
We had to move. I don’t know why we were placed at a booked table!
The waiter seemed flustered which is fair, but he told us to go and snap a table up that just became free. He really should have been placing us!
We sat down and ordered. I got the chilli scramble. It tasted fine but didn’t look very appealing! My partner ordered the Benedict and it didn’t arrive. We asked multiple people about it. First waitress said, “yeah ok” and didn’t do anything about it. The second was actually very helpful and tracked down the meal.

Overall. Food was OK. not great. But the service was appalling.
Sorry Frank. Won’t return. I’ll go to your new place Levi which is far superior!

We found Frank’s when looking for a spot to have brunch before we spent the day shopping at Southland. It’s quite spacious and I love the timber décor. Frank’s neon sign is a great feature too.

The soy latte was perfectly creamy and the Avocado Smash was deliciously unique. Just the right amount of dukkha sprinkled on top and the drizzle of balsamic reduction made it memorable. The salsa verde with cherry tomatoes was bursting with flavour and of course, the smashed avocado was delish.

We’ll definitely be back!

Horrible experience. Can't give it 0 stars unfortunately.

Went there for brunch today with my wife. Was seated at one of their communal tables with one other couple. We ordered within about 5 minutes of being seated. The other couple then ordered. After about 20 minutes another couple was seated at the same table.

After 40 minutes of waiting the other two couples had their food. We enquired ith a waitress where ours was, who replied with it should be coming. She then went on to serve other customers. After 10 minutes another waitress spoke to us and informed us that the kitchen had lost our order. She apologised (with zero amount of sincerity) and at this point the other two couples had already eaten and left.

We were about to just leave but after about an hour of waiting we finally got our food.

Well the wait was not worth it, our meals we're cold and disappointing. When this was mentioned to the same waitress, she simply said, we just rushed it to you, it shouldn't be and then walked off. We barely ate any of the food and left still hungry.

In the end our coffees were free... however they were the only thing that was good. Wont be going back again.

I have to say Frank’s is probably my favourite cafe in the south east! Great food & ambience every time I’ve visited. I tried the chilli scramble this time round and it was nothing but flavourful with a kick that isn’t overpowering. Do also try their famous chicken sandwich as that is notably one of their popular dishes. As much as their coffee is nice & strong, their iced chai is just as amazing as well. Highly recommend this cafe if your around the area!
Who Loves Good Food
We tried to eat in here a few times but they are really popular & was full each time so am glad we finally got a table during this Xmas period. Great coffee. Loved the soba salad, the chicken was delicious. Tuna melt just generous & the side dip was divine though had no idea what it was for so dipped the chicken in it. Strawberry shortcake was beautiful. Will definitely be back!

A busy cafe serving up some really delicious food in Cheltenham! I ordered their new pumpkin gnocchi, summer salad and strawberry shortcake.

The summer salad is a light and refreshing option. The capsicum purée really compliments the dish.

The pumpkin gnocchi was my favourite dish. The gnocchi was pan fried (major plus points) and the pumpkin purée was well seasoned.

The strawberry shortcake dish is a must try if you have a sweet tooth! The white chocolate pearls add a nice crunch throughout the dish.

This cafe is an absolute gem and a MUST visit in Chetlenhem.

The interior first of all is absolutely beautiful and inviting and the staff are super attentive and ensure every customer is looked after despite how busy the cafe is.

The drinks were delicious- we got the hot chocolate and a green juice and both were really yummy.

As for food, we ordered:
The eggs benedict- This dish is the king of all eggs benedicts. It has absolutely EVERYTHING you could ever want. A nice thin sourdough toast topped with crispy and flavoursome bubble and squeak, two perfectly poached eggs and creamy hollondaise. But that is not all. There is also a thick slab of perfectly cooked pork belly layered with fat and succulent meat. The dish is then pulled together with a nice drizzle of delicious jus. This dish is probably the best benedict i have ever had and I will never stop raving about it!!!
Strawberry short cake- This dish was a a dream come true. I honestly can not find the words to explain the taste except that it was a truly beautiful experience. This dish consists of a biscuit filled with strawberry cream, a strawberry infused scoop of ice cream, freeze dried raspberries and delicious crumb. Everything marries together in a delicious harmony of flavours and while the dish is super refined and modern, the flavours of a classic strawberry shortcake are very much prevalent.
Granola- This dish is a great, fresh breakfast and a good cut from the intense flavours of the other two dishes. It has a delicious granola and chia pudding topped with seasonal fruits.
Brunchbabymelb
One of my top Melbourne food experiences!

We ordered the Granola which was so insanely refreshing, my favourite part (besides the beautifully vibrant colours) was the flavour of the coconut caramel buckwheat. We also ordered the Benedict. Now, I'm not normally a Benedict girl but I am so glad I tried this. The most perfect slab of pork belly, with beautiful crisp crackling. The bubble and squeak was incredible too and was such a unique but genius addition to this dish! We also got the new menu item, the Strawberry Shortcake. It was simply stunning, visually and in taste. It captured the classic charm that makes you reminiscent of your grandma's shortbread recipe, while also incorporating modern components and techniques, which made for a masterpiece of a dish.

The service was lightning fast and staff were so warm and friendly. We came near the end of their working day and it was lovely to see the chef come out and have a discussion with not only us, but other customers as well.

Could not recommend this place any higher. If you're in the area - check it out!
Little Picky Very Hungry
An excellent stopover for coffee and brunch. I was excited to try this place as I read many good things about it, so we stopped by here before our trip to Costco.
.
We were greeted with a friendly smile, the cafe has a nice laid back vibe with warm wooden interior. We ordered the CRISPY PORK BELLY BENEDICT ($22) 🐷🥚, it was spectacular! The pork belly was crispy and juicy, along with the poached eggs with hollandaise sauce...everything was spot on!
.
STRAWBERRY SHORT CAKE ($18) 🍓is one of the new items on the spring menu🌸. Finally something exciting other than pancakes and French toast. Fresh strawberries and whipped cream wrapped inside a biscuit with white chocolate pearls and vanilla ice cream. I love strawberries!! That’s a big YES from me! The whipped cream was creamy and light with a lovely strawberry flavour, mixed it with its flaky outer layer. What a treat!😋
.
SOY LATTE ($4.5) was great, silky frothed milk 🥛 MATCHA LATTE ($5) was pretty strong, a bit bitter actually. It would be better if they ask us prior putting cinnamon powder on top. I look forward to returning!

Really great spot for lunch and a treat for Cheltenham residents to have as their local. Came for lunch with a colleague and we tried the two signature sandwiches, the Cuban and the Poached Chicken, both were fantastic.

At my request, they kindly left the bread fresh instead of toasted on the poached chicken and it was top quality rye bread. The Cuban was delicious, great ratio of cheese and meat. Definitely a great lunch and we both left very happy and full.
Alvin Lee
We ordered the Chili Scrambled Eggs and the Eggs Benedict. I loved the scrambled eggs which was topped with chili flakes that gave it that extra burst of flavour and spice. The toast underneath was crispy but a little hard to slice through with the knife.

The pork belly that came with the eggs benedict was full of flavour and melts in the mouth,

The matcha latte was a little strong for me, but definitely had a really good matcha flavour, so I had to add some sugar into it. I told the staff to bring the matcha latte with the food but it was only brought around 5-10mins later. But I could see that they were really busy and the café was pretty packed.
Helen
I was amazed how busy this place is but there are no other cafes nearby. Quick and efficient service with good prices. I had the mushroom on rye which was tasty and my friend had chicken sandwich. Another friend had chicken sorba which she enjoyed. Coffee good and they're happy to make alterations to your order if theres an ingredient included which you don't want in there.
Burger Hunter
Beautiful cafe with the friendliest service. So attentive while it was busy. Coffees werr great. Got the chilli scrambled and 2 of the smashed Avos.

Chilli scrambled was perfectly done. However, the poached eggs on both the smashed Avos were overcooked and hard.
Bettina Brougham
This is a great example of a locally owned and operated family business that provides great tasting and value for money meals. But you may have trouble getting in sometimes as it is very busy. 5 out of 5

RATE RATE RATE so HIGHLY!!
Our local coffee cafe and it sure exceeds expectations. Amazing service, although wait times could be slightly better, they are a busy cafe and manage very well.
Breakfast menu is delectable and always tastes so good no matter what I order! Cakes and pastries are delicious and love the vibe of the cafe.
Could not recommend highly enough

Lovely cafe!
Great atmosphere, spacious and bright venue. The staff was really nice and friendly, service was prompt. The menu offers everything you need for a good brunch!
I went for the granola bowl, the smoked salmon and a matcha latte!
The granola bowl was my favorite. Loads of different fruits with chia seeds and coconut, soooo good!
Smoked salmon was delicious as well, heaps of salmon, hummus and creme fraiche. The serving was quite generous, I was so full and could barely walk afterwards haha. Flavors are on point as well as presentation!
This is definitely a great cafe and I highly recommend it!
Natty And Food
Another good experience at Franks, however, the wait for our food was very long and it wasn't that busy. The staff are friendly and the food is great. We will return.

Frank's is a great place for some coffee and light exotic food. They do seem to take their coffee seriously. That was evident from the Iced Coffee that I had there. It wasn't too watery and full of ice like in many other places. I could taste the robust coffee flavour. The milk that they used in the coffee was also so good, which I guess is a standard in Australia.

Franks cafe is a neighbourhood gem , ALWAYS buzzing and vibrant with life. The cafe itself is bright , airy and bubbly - with a welcoming atmosphere although sometimes a bit too busy for quiet talks .
Food : Must try the Chicken sandwich , with cheese- it is comforting , FILLING and utterly delicious with coffee. The benedicts on rotation are hearty and delicious , a must have for benny lovers.

Poached eggs are cooked properly , unlike some cafes that do not cook the white properly.

A lovely addition to Cheltenham
Hungrylittleshrew
Food and atmosphere is quite lovely for a local cafe.

Nothing too spectacular, but what you would expect from a trendy, local cafe.

Service however, was mediocre - nothing to complain about, yet nothing to rave about.

Overall, I wouldn't hesitate to return if in the area, but would not make the trip again especially to try this cafe.

It sits in a quiet suburb. There are no other shops around. The cafe is very busy. They don't take booking. But not a long quene to wait. The food is nice.

When old mate @hulksmashfood tells you about his favourite places to eat in Australia, @franksmelbourne is one that he holds in high regard. Frank's is a great relaxed cafe in Cheltenham, where the food and coffee here is on point.

Their burger is unforgettable with not one, but two (extra patty) perfectly cooked Juicy Grass Fed Wagyu Beef Patties, Melted American Cheddar Cheese Slices, Sliced Tomato, Shredded Lettuce, Special Sauce on a Lightly Toasted Soft White Brioche Bun.

@franksmelbourne

Chicken soba noodle salad
Meal rating - 4/5
Next visit - Yes

Perfectly crispy fried chicken with wombok, soba noodles, wasabi peas, nori edamame, kewpie mayo and soy sesame dressing.

Amazing food and generous portion. Quite filling for a salad.
Located In a quiet, unassuming suburban shopping strip, Frank’s is a true hidden gem! Three of us went for lunch and the place was humming with activity. We were ushered to a table as soon as one became free. Our wait staff were pleasant and helpful; returning often to check on our readiness and make sure we had drinks. Despite the business, our food order came in reasonable time. Smashed avo with bacon for my wife, mushroom medley for our friend and baby beetroot salad with chicken for diet-conscious me! The serves were generous and beautiful presented. They all tasted delicious! The ladies finished off with cakes which they also approved of. I got a taste too...yum! Thank you Frank’s, we’ll see you again.

Top 5 Brunch spot for sure! I can't commit to sorting out my life or my top 5 so don't ask. Been here many times and have never been disappointed by the food (taste or portion sizes) or the service of the amazing staff.

Always great service and food! Food arrived fast. They do a great coffee and have vegan options like tofu scramble,. Will keep coming back, thanks!
Joe
Food was ok however customer service is so bad, the woman that served us took payment didn't even look at us just tapped the machine and said 'tap your card' who do you think you are? We're never going back to that place ever again I'll never recommend this place to anyone and will speak highly of my experience regarding this place.
Sarah
Everything about this place was great! Food service was quick, portions were big and the food was fresh and tasty. I loved the flavour combo of the smashed avo and will be back to try more.

I don’t normally venture out to this part of Melbourne for brunch food but Frank’s was the perfect excuse for me to go.
Be warned though, this place can get quite busy. We came during peak hour period on the weekend, and wait time for a table was around 20 mins.
The food they brought out was definitely something to admire. I ordered the poached chicken sandwich which was toasted to absolute perfection, not to mention very tasty with the combination of tarragon capers, spinach and mayo. My partner ordered the Benedict, expecting the usual looking eggs benny, but what we got was something much more spectacular looking! The crispy pork belly alongside the poached eggs and hollandaise was something more unique than your average Benedict, and super yummy. My partner couldn’t get enough of it.
Breakfast_Adventurers
A stunning cafe in Cheltenham with an even more impressive menu! Since I’ve last been they’ve majorly updated their menu so I need to go back soon!

But beautiful food and such a stunning addition to the area! Can’t wait to go back and try more #yum

Incredible food and customer service, well done Harry! Keep up the great work

The burger is always a favourite with such amazing flavours. Will be back

Love, love love the coffee here. We’ve had breakfast here many times too and has always been fantastic. The service is quick and friendly as well.
Kenyellow46
Best cafe in the area. No others compare. a menu update would be awesome right about now. Great staff, amazing food and great atmosphere.
Great location hidden away from main roads and other busy amenities.
Gourmet Explorer
It’s a cafe in a quiet street. We didn’t expect the food is so good. The dish proportion is large. The vegetables are fresh and crispy. The spicy egg has a little bit bit spicy and the dish special.
Kathleen Mary Conway
Went here after a neighbor recommended it. The coffee was amazing the food was beautiful and the atmosphere was perfect, its truly a hidden jem
Lil Porker
Such a chill place! Love the coffee here, it’s divine. service here is also great, the staff are all very friendly and accommodating. Came here with friends and we all opted for the burger. It didn’t disappoint - was the perfect amount. A bit expensive however with service, great coffee and food combined it is very worth it.
Gastrology
Bayside’s local favourite Frank’s café delights with an array of stunning brunch options.

We loved tasting our way through the menu. The dish of smoked salmon was a colourful amalgamation of smoked salmon, crème fraiche, sauce vierge, asparagus, beetroot hummus, sprouts radish and topped with poached eggs encasing dripping yolk – all sitting atop crusty rye.
Ritu Makhija
Mind blown. Try the breakfast salmon, its an absolute winner. Will definitely return to this friendly, funky environment with friends for brunch. Everything on the menu looks incredible. Just a side note; the cherry ripe crèpe is now a violet crumble one. Tempted to try it out next time!
Fifi Dee
Great atmosphere, friendly staff, diverse menu. Quality ingredients. Pet friendly with outdoor seating. Inner city experience in the suburbs.
Quince And Cheese
Frank's is a Cheltenham favourite for a reason. This contemporary cafe offers all the Melbourne brunch classics one would expect (with a twist) plus several more experimental dishes. I opted for the chilli scramble as I can't say no to buffalo mozzarella. It wasn't very spicy but had a great flavour and was super moist thanks to a chilli bechemal. A combination of fresh and roasted tomatoes added complexity. The quinoa salad was my second choice. This naturally vegan option is delicious on its own and even better with a side of pesto and tofu scramble. The beetroot hummus and potato add sweetness to the dish which compliment the earthy flavours well. Speaking of earthy, the turmeric latte embodies that taste in a very pleasant way. My soy flat white (made with soy boy) was also really nice. If you're after a more filling drink, try the banana smoothie, thickened with yoghurt and chock full of chia seeds. The space at Frank's is great, with big, front-facing open windows and clean white tiles. The staff are lovely and down to earth, while still being professional. If you're Bayside and looking for a great breakfast or lunch destination, Frank's is it.
Rachaelharwood17
Frank's was really nice. I had the mushroom dish, the cauliflower purée was delicious and the coffee was really nice and big, which is always a plus. I also had the vanilla malt shake, and it is to die for!
Amy
Great chai tea, vegan scrambled eggs (Tofu) and grain salad. Service is friendly and the place does get busy on the weekend. Neighbourhood gem!
Kiffdcosta
Really liked this cafe! Nice, open space with natural lighting. Good food selection & coffee/chai was great (we all had 2 each)
Staff are friendly. Just try not to sit right next to the kitchen like we did, as the oil smell is very overwhelming after a while, but all up a cute cafe!
Stelly
A popular cafe quietly located in a cluster of shops. The venue is quite big and there are two sides surrounding the kitchen, so you can see the cooking action.

We started off with an iced chocolate which looked stunning. Make sure to mix it around before you drink though as all the chocolate is on the sides and the bottom.

The Chilli Scrambled Eggs on Toast was decent - though it wasn’t that spicy. However the roasted cherry tomatoes were a nice addition. We also added on sausage which was pretty good.

The Cuban Sandwich was delicious. The sourdough was toasted perfectly and the sauce seriously elevated the dish! It may look small, but it’s actually very filling!

Staff were really friendly throughout our visit. Overall, the food was all pretty good. It’s a nice cafe to visit if you’re in the area.
MK
Stood at the doorway and barely acknowledged on arrival...should of just left and gone somewhere else. Food was ok might have been more enjoyable if the staff weren’t sweeping the floor around us and itching to go home while tried to have lunch
Tj Peco
Great place to go with the whole family. The chicken soba noodles was very memorable. Highly recommend visiting if you’re in the area. I know I’ll be going back!
Tahlia Lee
Visited with two others and we all really enjoyed our food. It was really busy but we were lucky and didn't have to wait for a table. Only problem here is the noise, it can get quite loud due to being so busy.
Kat_Eats_Mel
Came here for brunch on a Sunday. Didn't think we were able to get a table because it seems like I can never get a table for brunch anywhere on a weekend. So win. Got greeted and seated right away with menus given, tick tick tick. Coffee was 5/5. Service 5/5. Food 4/5 - ordered the cherry ripe crepes and it was out of this world, well for me at least! Yummmy, not your average crepe.. totally different in a good way. Loved the balance of flavours! More of a dessert. Also had the Mushrooms dish, which was just ok for me because it had truffle oil in it and I hate truffle. It stated on the menu but i didn't read it properly lol. Will be back!!
Frank
Great coffee, friendly staff we had a lovely brunch with the kids. They particularly loved the burger. Reasonable price. Hard to go wrong. Certainly recommended.
Hbomb
A good mate took me here over the weekend and what a cool joint for Cheltenham. Service was great and the food flavours and presentation was amazing. Can't wait to come back and try more menu items.
Koby Poole
This place is now my ‘local’. It’s simply the best coffee around. The staff don’t mind having a laugh either which is nice. My son loves the smartie cookies and babycinos and bacon are on point
Kylie Williams
Think twice if you plan on going here with young children as they don't have a change table in the bathroom. They didn't seem to be kid friendly in general, as after we finished eating our meal the waiter interrupted the table conversation give me a dust bin & broom and told me to clean up the crumbs my baby had dropped from his highchair. I probably would have done that anyway, but it was a bit weird to be asked like that.
All in all, I don't recommend this cafe of you have babies or toddlers with you.

This review was initially posted on Google, and the response I received from the owner was incredibly rude (as you can see from the screenshot I have included in this post) Looking through their feedback on other reviews, it's evident that several other customers have also recieved online abuse from the owner of this cafe. Their response my feedback does nothing but reaffirm their complete and utter failure in offering good hospitality to their guests. There are so many wonderful cafes in Melbourne. To all potential customers of this cafe, I highly recommend you try another venue instead.

Harry, your response to my comment does nothing but reaffirm you do not offer a family friendly venue. Offering high chairs and colouring pencils does not make you a family friendly cafe. Neither does having writeups in parenting blogs (you undoubtedly would bend over backwards if you knew a blogger was dining with you).
A family friendly venue is able to be welcoming to people of all walks of life and this was not my experience at Frank's.
KnowingMelbourne
We visited Frank’s recently and absolutely loved it! The fit out is light and airy and very welcoming. They have a few tables outside too so it’s pet-friendly. Win!
The food is really what impressed though. The beef burger was huge and juicy and those French fries were crispy and delicious. Definitely a crowd pleaser especially for the burger lovers!
The Eggs Benedict was probably the best I’ve had in a long time. The sauce was rich and tangy but not overpowering. I had bacon instead of pork belly and it was cooked to perfection.
The cherry ripe crepe was light and airy and a nice way to end the meal.
I definitely recommend checking out Franks.
Thanks for having us!
The Hungry Vegan
Unassuming cafe on a quiet street in Cheltenham, Frank's is most definitely a hidden gem!

We turned up hungry, but boy were we satisfied! I had the stuffed mushrooms on toast with potato rosti, and I would definitely recommend it to everyone! Full of delicious flavors from the mushrooms, mayonnaise and crispy (and big) rosti. Coffee was also great!

Would recommend to everyone.
Maia Kate
Amazing local gem. It's always busy, which goes to show how popular it is. Last time we went, we were seated by what appeared to be the owner/manager and he was awesome: very friendly and professional, and let us have our pick of seats. The food was also great, we had the pork belly benedict, smoked salmon dish and the smashed avocado. All presented beautifully and we're very large portions. Will be returning.
Vivian
We came into Franks the other day as I have been seeing the spectacular cherry ripe crepe popping all over my socials and boy was I not disappointed. We got that to share as well as a benedict and a smoked salmon dish.

The Benedict had a delicious sous vide pork belly with what seemed like potato wedges on a nice thick cut of bread drizzled with a creamy rich hollandaise- a very luxe dish indeed

The smoked salmon was my friends favourite dish, the salmon with the beetroot and crème fresh although classic combinations were executed really well by Franks. The combination and proportions of each and every element was just right, we added avo with this is and it really lifted the dish.

The cherry ripe crepe was as delicious as it looked which is usually a rare thing, the crepe had all the flavours of a cherry ripe but was more refined. The cherry was more tart and fresh whilst the chocolate not as sweet due to the light and airiness of the mousse. The coconut was sprinkled around and the fairy floss at the top which I thought was just for decorations was critical to adding that sweetness into the dish .

Thankyou so much for having us !
FoodieT
Just discovered this place today. How refreshing for the Cheltenham area. Limited menu but what they make is done well. I had the grilled chicken and tarragon sandwich today. And it was delicious.

I was fortunate to face the cooking area so I got to see most of their dishes coming out. And every dish looked stunning. I will definitely be back here again for lunch.
@lukebMelb
Came here for lunch yesterday, loved it. Very busy little cafe serving great food. Ruben toastie and chicken was great. The pesto dipping sauce on the side of the chicken toastie was crazy good.Milo milkshake is my recommendation. Small menu but decent food. Would return.
Dean_wickenton
Make a nice coffee and staff are friendly. Main issue was the noise - was busy and the conversations at other tables seem to amplify. Not the cheapest going around for food, either.
SK
I’ve been to franks a few times now however last week for my birthday I was thoroughly dissatisfied and disappointed with my experience at franks! My coffee was cold and I asked to replace it which the lady said she would & never did after I asked twice!!!! My toast was soggy and yuck which was replaced with no charge however a HUGE fuss was made over the toast being replaced! All the butter for my friend’s toast was melted and un-spreadable as it had been sitting under the heat lamp in the kitchen for ages! All the dishes look pretty but don’t live up to expectation! Lastly, I think the speech used by the staff is all a bit fake and over the top which makes you feel uncomfortable! Hopefully franks falls into its self a little more and becomes a comfortable environment in the future.
NAT
Good atmosphere, friendly staff, fabulous food !
Service was quick, even it was busy time.
Will visit again and try the red crepe if we have a chance to go around there !

Although this cafe has a lot going right for it and is a positive improvement on the ordinary suburban cafe, I think the menu overall needs a lot of work. Although adventurous, sometimes too many things on a plate can ruin a dish. Too many of the dishes are saturated in sauces (particularly balsamic vinegar) and the eggs Benedict was probably one of the worst I’ve had. With a few menu refinements I think this place could be a lot better.
DAMMIT JANET I LOVE FOOD
This bright and spacious cafe offers cheery service, complimentary sparkling water, and tasty food. The Chili Scrambled Eggs were creamy and fluffy, while the Cherry Ripe Crepe was delicate and not overly sweet. A great local cafe.

Came to this place based on my girlfriend’s recommendation and boy was it worth it. Bit of a trip from home but well worth it. Bright open and bustling cafe - did I count 12 staff!!! All very busy. Greeted by a lovely lady as we entered. Amazing cake display in the entrance. Open kitchen and great music on. Place was packed but this didn’t hinder the service or quality.

I had the chilli scrambled eggs not normally something I would order but after reading where the eggs were sourced how could you not. ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS. My partner had bacon, eggs and rosti - very good.

Yay, proper strong tea with leaves and the coffee was the best in a very long time.

Would love to see china cups for the tea.

I was going to have the smoked salmon but the brand they use does not have good/ethical farming practices unfortunately. Given the story about the eggs in Franks Quarterly I would have thought they would source ethically farmed salmon. Something to consider?!

Overall a fantastic fine. Hope they open for dinner.

Franks is our local and it’s about time something decent opened up this side of the highway. Been there mainly for breaky where we have had just about everything on the menu, chilli scrambled with sausage is my fave. Lunch is amazing also with the Rueben delicious, pulled pork and the burger is also a big tick. Only criticism but minor is that there is no beer or wine to wash it down. Coffee can be on the warm side where I like it hot also but otherwise an awesome cafe worth the visit

Wow what a wonderful local offering! We were blown away by the quality & attention to detail, this is not your average brunch spot. I adored the quarterly magazine proving Frank’s has so much HEART

Cheltenham is not the first suburb that pops into your mind when you think of Melbourne brunch, which is why Frank’s makes the perfect brunch spot for locals in the Southeast side of Melbourne. Not only do they have the quality and taste of other Melbourne brunch hotspots, but they also have ingenuous creativity in assembling new and unique dishes! My top picks would be the Cherry Ripe Crepe (especially for dessert lovers) and the Chilli Scramble.
Groovy Smoothy
Impeccable service! The beef burger was made vegetarian for me to enjoy with a mushroom as a replacement and it was amazing! The coffee thickshake is also a must!

4.5

We were lucky enough to try Frank’s at Chetenham. The cafe has a minimal decor - blend of white colour and warm wood. It is very relaxing and also kid friendly.

We started off with long black, Milo Milkshake (not too sweet) and apple juice (very refreshing)

For the food, we tried 5 dishes below.
- Cherry Ripe Crêpe
- Mushroom
- Chilli Scrambled Eggs
- Benedict
- Smoked Salmon
Their portion is quite big which is reasonable for the price. All of them are delicious ! Our favourite are the Mushroom, Smoked salmon and Cherry ripe crepe!

The staff was lovely. We would come back if we are around the area.
Simple nice aesthetics, food was average but affordable compared to other brunch places. Waiters were friendly, food comes out approx 20 minutes wait time. Quality of food was normal while presentation was neat. First time here but I’d give this place another go, n try something different.
What I loved most about my meal was the green juice.
Daisy Never Too Sweet
We’ve visited Franks a few times and it never disappoints! The food is always on point, service is exceptional and more importantly they’re dog friendly which is always a bonus for me!

The Franks burger has just been voted one of Melbourne’s best burger in the south so don’t miss that especially the special sauce which was so addictive!

I ordered the chicken sandwich with capers and melted cheese! It was so simple but so well made!

Last but not least, the cherry ripe crepe was to die for and please do my a favour and try the Franks extraordinary coffee thickshake!

Great food and service in the heart of Cheltenham. Love the atmosphere and the food is yummy and reasonably priced check it out if you’re in the neighbourhood.

Good Food Good Mood
We were so excited to be invited to Frank’s today and were super impressed upon arrival. The cake cabinet was heaving with delicious goodies with the salted caramel lamington and banana coconut cake particularly piquing my interest. The place we packed and had a very modern decor and lovely atmosphere. The cafe is seemingly plonked right in the middle of south eastern suburbia, all I can say is lucky locals.
Offering complimentary sparkling which is becoming quite the trend these days (does norhing for me personally but it’s quite the perk for many) they really stood out from the plethora of Melbourne cafes by the quarterly publication that was on all the tables. This to me was an ingenious idea. Not only does it list all the suppliers, it reflects their commitment to good quality produce and ingredients and their pride and rightly so in everything they do. Do ensure you have a flick through its really cool to hear the voice or both the chef and the customers and it reflects a real sense of community that made me wish I lived a lot closer!
I was told by a fellow foodie that he absolutely loved the beef burger so I simply had to order it. This is an interesting one as my friend had it with a double patty and knowing I wasn’t going to be able to resist the cake cabinet I opted for one. I do think the ratios would have been improved by two however as they were quite small patties (the extra one is only $3) regardless it was delicious and the fries were exceptionally delicious. I did enquire as to the secret seasoning and was told a mix of sumac and zataar. The chef is clearly a genius.
Healthy hubby got the zucchini fritter salad with chicken while I enjoyed a fabulous chai. They use the brand prana and while many do I’m really starting to believe it’s in brew time as often they can still be quite bland and milky. We finished with the cherry ripe crepe which was exciting as no one has really played with the crepe and I think it could be the next type of ‘it’ breakfast dessert following in the infamous footsteps of he hotcake and the panna cotta. This one was both a visual feast and a taste sensation.
We finished with the peanut butter slice which was a hard decision to make. I might have to go back for the salted caramel PB brownie..
Was really excited go try this place, heard so many good things, but walked away not loving it.

The staff on the floor were so lovely,
accommodating with kids, they couldn’t do enough for you.

The food, the burger was the best I’ve had. Wasn’t a huge fan of the seasoning on the chips kids didn’t love it, so we were trying to brush it off for them. The zucchini fritters, like little nuggets, Tasteless. So dark they looked burnt. The Tzatziki wasnt great, the yoghurt wasn’t drained so watery on the plate, no salt, no garlic. The salad was ok, but nothing special. The Arancini were very plain, no flavour, missing the cheese. the orange and fennel salad that came with them was nice.

Got a chocolate hazelnut cookie, not sure if these are baked onsite or bought in, Couldn’t taste one bit of chocolate, so sweet, the couldn’t taste the hazelnuts they were there- possibly stale.

Might give them another go when they change their menu.
First time at Franks Cafe, not happy!!!
After working 12 hours, I just wanted a nice bacon and egg roll with BBQ sauce. I received, burnt bacon, egg and burnt bun (not roll). All for $13. It's disappointing, after paying $13, for a classic simple bacon and egg roll (bun), I had to go to hungry Jack's.
Tucked down some quiet suburban streets in Cheltenham, you’ve either got to be a local or just savvy to know where this cafe is- but I’d heard some great reviews from friends who lived in the area, so thought it was definitely worth a visit for Sunday lunch.

I’d just come back from a business trip so was really craving some hearty brekky and a break from eating meat- so the mushrooms option was a great choice. The serving portions were massive (I couldn’t finish my meal) and the price on par with most cafes nowadays and the coffee was comforting, and had a great relaxed vibe throughout the cafe.

Great option to come with friends, family or even just to grab a quick bite on your own.
Great service, waiters had a comprehensive understanding of the menu and customer needs. Love the overall vibe of the place and would definitely recommend for any locals looking for a sunday session.

The food was great and the service quick and friendly. I highly recommend Frank's as a place to have brunch before seeing a movie at Southland or doing some shopping.

Franks Cafe in Cheltenham has been a welcome addition to the area according to the regulars sitting next to us on the bench table at the front the cafe. The cafe itself is located in a wide space with large windows and a central coffee bar and kitchen, Franks is a comfy styled cafe with relaxed chairs and plenty of space. There was a hum about the place even at 1pm, though we were told this was a quieter afternoon than they regularly have.

The Franks menu presents lots of tasty options, making todays brunch selection very hard. We ended up choosing the savory items from the lunch menu and something sweet from the breakfast offerings.

We ordered the burger and upped the patty count to the double wagu patty. The burger came with American cheddar, lettuce, bbq sauce, and home made “Big Mac” sauce. Loosely based on the head chefs favourite “in and out burger”, I was immediately drawn to the similarities including the soft but well cooked through patties and the great cheddar. We love the fact the chef has his own “Big Mac” sauce recipe and it was a taste sensation. This sauce was served with the fries and was addictive, we just couldn’t stop.

We also ordered the pumpkin & pinenut arancini balls served with a creamy tart goats curd, and vibrant and fresh orange, fennel and rocket salad. All the elements on this dish work in conjunction with each other, the goats curd is a genius inclusion, it makes each mouthful moorish and the orange and fennel is a wonderful way to break through the creamy elements. This dish was great, it was filling without being a heavy meal.

For a sweet finale we had the cherry ripe red velvet crepe. This cherry berry chocolate mousse crepe looked like something out of Alice in Wonderland. This was a wonderful mixture of flavours and textures, overall it was light and not as insanely sweet as it looked. The fairy floss had a strong strawberry flavour and we liked the inclusion of canned cherries above the light airy mouse. There is nothing you could fault about this dish.

Based on what we ate today we agree that we would be lucky indeed to have Franks near where we live.

A big thank you to owner Harry for the invite and chef Eli for your spectacular and creative dishes. We visit Cheltenham regularly and will definitely come back to try some other dishes again soon.

A hidden gem. Up there with the best breakfasts in Melbourne. Had to wait 15 mins for a table, but for good reason. Glad I stumbled across Franks. Live in Brisbane but will visit again next time when in Melbourne

Very friendly staff and good selection on the menu, easy to choose from though hard as I wanted a bit of everything 😆. Went there for breakfast/brunch and ended up going with the burger, very tasty lots of flavor and a very nice wagyu pattie. Came with big amount of fries on the side well seasoned. “Extraordinary Iced coffee thick shake”, amazing. 👌🏼

Always a good classic place to have a meal, the staff are friendly and they treat you how you want to be treated. The food is also of top quality. Love it.
