Don’t go to this place if you’re a wheelchair user, no portable ramps or anything to get into the place, went from the back and front and nothing, the staff really seemed to not care either.

Lots of off street parking. Pub food in a very cozy, clean bistro. Popular gaming venue. Menu choices were varied, seniors meals were a bargain, starting at $12 for a single course up to $15 for 3, including a $2 gaming voucher. Relaxing evening meal, will visit again.

For the time we went there at 130am from hospital for a cheer up it was great. Quite but friendly and security was helpful and made us 2 lattes each with real milk. That was a treat. We stayed till close and also won so added bonus. All in all we will go to the Royal again. The Refurb is happening in March now due to building delays we were told. So my main 5 stars are for supplying a great atmosphere and secure environment. With a welcoming intro...♤♡◇♧

We moved back to Mentone 15 months ago and the Royal Oak is just around the corner. We come here almost weekly as the meals are consistently excellent and the service warm and welcoming. As seniors, the meals are of a generous size with the vegetables well-cooked and varied. We usually have the roast beef or pork (thick slices), fish and chips or lamb rissoles. When we also have soup it's always hot and tasty. For many years we went to Highways at Sandown (Melbourne Racing Club). The décor here may not be as stylish but who cares if the food is ten times better! We've eaten at many top restaurants and clubs over forty years (even run our own at one stage), so we feel qualified to make judgements. For great home-style cooking we'll certainly frequent the Royal Oak as often as possible.

Took my family for burger night. Ordered 4 Beef burgers, 2 chicken burgers and a kids Spag Bol. Beef burgers advertised as being served on a brioche buns, were delivered to our table on white burger buns and when this was questioned was told they must have run out, I'll find out and then no one ever returned with an explanation. Chicken burgers were dry and cold, cheese wasn't melted at all, when we sent one back because it was not eatable was refunded our money and told they couldn't cook another one anytime soon. Really disappointing and won't be returning. Was never approached by management for an explanation or discussion. Felt as if no one knew what was going on or cared to correct any issues. Kids spag bol was eatable.

Good local pub food Congratulations to the great chefs & staff of the Royal Oak! We had a gathering of 15 family & friends here on Saturday night & we all enjoyed our meals. The veal scallopini & baked barramundi were standouts! Some other meals enjoyed were their chicken kiev (garlic heaven) lemon pepper calamari (so tender) & even the old favorite parma were winners. Since first coming here about 18 months ago, this pub has consistently delivered great food in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere.

What a freshen up!!. Sam's the man, this venue manager is piloting the Royal Oak through exciting times. New look, fresh vibe and bringing this iconic venue into the today space. I'll be back!

Very ordinary. HAd not been here for quite a long time, I remember why. <br/>Under the guise that the hotel had been done up, and everything was changing, we ventured down to the hotel on Saturday evening. <br/>Oooooops don't believe everything you hear.<br/>Still predominately a pokies venue, with space at the rear allocated for meals.<br/>Place the orders only to be advised at 7pm that we are out of chicken. ( I don't consider 7pm late)<br/>4 meals ordered, 2 passed, 2 obviously didn't. <br/>By 8.45pms was obvious that we were holding up the staff in the bistro from being somewhere else. The waitresses had packed up and were either leaning or sitting on the servery playing with mobile phones. Not a good look.<br/>They were pleasant enough, but, a long way from professional, even if you are a local pub.<br/>As to would I go back, hmmm don't think so.

Used a coupon from the local paper. Staff had no idea about what was on the menue including the specials. Food was horrible. Undercooked and poor quality. Made the mistake of giving them another chance and food and service was just as bad. Never again. Place needs to be bulldozed. ...

Depressing sad place with lousy food. Honestly, as depressing a place as I have ever been. Lights off out the front, wasn't even sure it was open. About 4 people eating in the bistro at dinner time. The place has that aura that it was run down 15 years ago, and has just become worse since then...<br/><br/>Around $60 for two meals which is way overpriced for what you get. <br/><br/>Ps. The people working there were really nice through.

Value. Front bar $10 meals, all the time - can't complain about that. They have about 12 different options. The Parma was great, good size. The rump steak was also good value.<br/><br/>There is also a bistro inside with a larger menu, kids menu and desserts.
