A delightful old style pub in the hills, a railway used to go past, discontinued in the 60s. The station across the road was the watering place for the Steam trains when they were running, the water came from a lake nearby.
My family had lived in the area for approx. the last 50 years.
Absolutely delicious!! One of if not the best salt & pepper squid salads I've ever had & hubby had the steak sandwich & OMG amazing & I'm very fussy lol. Thankyou for a delicious lunch we will definitely be back. 😊
Hidden jem ,great food fantastic service and love the oldy world decor.we will be back soon for sure
Great place, good food friendly staff, monthly events, weekly specials & quiz night, plus daily specials.
What a wonderful country pub this is, well deserving the praise received from other visitors - classic 19th century architecture and a rich history which is now celebrated with a great array of old photos inside. We went for dinner on a cold July night and were immediately struck by the warm atmosphere - not just the temperature, but the friendly staff, the rich red carpet and the welcoming vibe. This was complemented by the table waiter service which is a great touch. On a busy Saturday night the service was still quick and the food very good - we shared a tasting plate and squid salad. All in all a wonderful experience of old style hospitality.
Unexpected delight. Friendly staff, great chips and generous good home cooked roast. Even gave me extra veg when I asked for no roast potatoes.
Old world decor but felt warm and cozy with the log fire, a place to sit and enjoy a cuppa
A delicious meal and reasonably priced - definitely stop by for dinner if you are passing through! The kitchen opens at 5:00pm so if you get there earlier you can check out the park across the street while you wait.
The BLT was fantastic! 5/5 Not at all skimpy on the bacon and enough tomato and lettuce to keep the sandwich feeling fresh. I almost would want a little more L and T but no complaints. The sauce finished the dish greatly! Chips were tasty.
The pumpkin salad was good. 4/5 Nice and fresh and a good portion. The cheese was a nice addition.
The kids meals were great! 5/5 The chicken nuggets weren’t just some cheap freezer brand (well I don’t know for sure but it looked like they were fresher). Great big portions. The noodles were actually quality noodles and not just garbage they keep around for kids. It was nice to see they treated the kids meals like actual meals and not an afterthought.
Fire engine lemonade 5/5 tasty and original
The locals are friendly, tavern has character and a good range. Plan to go back for a meal sometime and try the crumbed Camembert
