I've been trying new Malaysian restaurants, but always come back here due to its reliable standard and authentic taste.
Wah Kee has been around since 1988, Mum actually remembered this place from when we used to live in Clayton many years ago. The food is good with large portions for the price and the staff are friendly. Have to say that even though it is a long drive for me now, I would totally come back here, especially for the roast duck which was tender (falling off the bone), juicy without being greasy, and with perfect crispy skin.
The vegetarian selection here is amazing!!!!!! The place also has a wholesome atmosphere, with the service being excellent as well. Highly recommend the veg mee goreng! The tofu is so good and there's potato in it too!
I love the Malaysian food here especially the egg gravy noodles with seafood, they also do a very nice fish head noodle soup but this is always a special . The owner here is very lovely and welcoming, we have been coming here for years
The teochew style braised duck is so amazing, meat melted in my mouth. The wa tan hor is spot on, wok hei evident, egg gravy light yet punchy. The ais Kacang, ok anyone who reads this review must go and try their ais kacang. The shaved ice is as soft as a new born baby’s cheeks , or a falling ❄️ snowflake. Very good. Don’t expect this place to be your hipster, yuppie or contemporary instagramming joint. This is a classic restaurant, for serious eating. Toilets are incredibly clean! Thumbs up!
Back in business after a year and still good! The only thing is that if the restaurant is a little busy, one may have to wait a while (but not excessively) for the food. Friendly and nice service. Will return.
Went to Wah Kee tonight for a birthday dinner. There were 14 of us and no one left unhappy. The food was delicious and the staff were great. Haven’t been here for many years, but will definitely be back sooner next time.
Went to Wah Kee recently after it has been reopened after its kitchen fire. Ordered some dishes & hokkien fried noodles. Love the noodles. Salted egg ribs were also very tasty and the sizzling tofu and gulai pineapple with prawns was very flavourful . The ice kacang is good but wish they had proper cendol in it instead of green jelly. We ordered the banana fritters for the kids and for $10 found it very steep for 1 banana and ice cream. Overall, we love the food here but I think some of the portions should commensurate with the price.
Went to Wah Kee this past weekend for a quick home food fix. I ordered the cha hor fun (wat tan ho) and was served within 15 mins of ordering.
Pros:
- The egg broth tasted authentic, in fact I found it to be the right amount of starchiness, which I liked because some places go overboard with the flour and end up making the dish too heavy.
- Lots of veggies
- Friendly service
Cons:
- The noodles lacked the wok hei (smokiness?) of traditional Malaysian stir fry dishes.
- They substituted the fish cakes you would normally find in this dish with actual pieces of fish, and only two very small pieces at that, which was a bit strange and didn't really add anything to the flavour of the dish.
- Shop ambience is a little dingy-looking from the outside.
Overall an okay experience for a reasonable price. Can't say it's my favourite place for Malaysian food, but I'd come back again to give the other dishes a try.

Certain items here get sold out - such as the har mee and char hor fun.

I have been eating here since Uni more than 10 years ago. A Malaysian family-owned business. The place is extremely clean and the service is friendly and quick. Hokkien mee is favourite, very authentic, and so is the lor mee, hor fun and char kway teow. Try the mee goreng as it is quite unique (with potatoes), it is one of my favourites too. If they have fish head noodles or crispy claypot noodles on special we always order them. We like to have dishes and rice at night - order the sizzling tofu, claypot eggplant, mongolian beef, lemon chicken, fried sambal ladies fingers, sambal kangkong etc. too many to list.
Had a takeaway Chang (rice dumpling) that's available during a certain time of the year. Delicious! Filled with succulent pieces of pork, water chestnut, mushroom, n beans. Perfect light easy winter dinner option. Ate in for lunch once n had the char hor fun. Very tasty! Will be back again to try the prawn mee n the mee goreng the other reviewers rave about.
Walked in here and it was dead! Literally no one inside not one customer... And when it came to staff? There was one lady there; literally didn't see another soul... So I was a little worried to eat there... But when I received my special fried rice and beef and black bean sauce it looked good. I first tried the rice and I must admit it was ok, a little bland but ok! However once I put that black bean sauce I was in heaven. The meat was beautiful veggies were cooked great. Unfortunately the higher prices compared to the other places and the bland rice let it down a little. But I will return and if I am amazed again I will up my score!
Been coming here for 10 years now since my uni days. Food is always consistently good, authentic and portions did not change over time. Very humble and reasonably priced. Both hawker style dishes and main dishes are delicious. The best MEE GORENG in Melbourne.
Good simple food which is very tasty. We have come here for a few years now and it's always brilliant value for money. The owner is always happy to stop for a chat.
We made an order for a roasted duck with rice and seafood and vegetable combination noodle soup. This place is so cheap and quite clean on the inside as well. The roasted duck was pretty good. The soup of the noodle was good as well, however, the noodles in it was quite bland.
I tried honey chicken and beef here. The food was good with quick service. Consider this place if you want to have a good Chinese food at cheap price,

This place has one of the best mee gorengs I have tasted in Melbourne! It has become a regular lunchtime haunt, and the aunty that works there is lovely! Definitely a great place in a suburbs!

Wah Kee is great for Chinese-Malay-Singaporean fusion food. Kinda miss this place because it's been a while since we've been back.
Favourite Restaurant. The food critic reviews have it right! The Wah Kee offers amazing dishes every time, at reasonable prices and with a great atmosphere. The owners are lovely people, approachable and take the time to get to know their patrons. This restaurant has been a favourite for me and my family for over 20 years, and it just keeps getting better and better. Food is authentic, delicious & a winner for small dinners or large groups. Highly recommended!!
A fantastic meal great place owners owned for 12 years, communication with the owner get on her good side and everything ok, I go there once or twice a week I am a customer not the owner.

Good Chinese. Popular place but you can usually get in which may not be the case with every restaurant in the area. Good food at a reasonable price but service can be slow.
Noasoupperson. BEST sweet corn and chicken soup EVERRR!! I always have it with a little bit of shrimp sambal, given very promtply when asked. Overall nice ambiance and friendly service.
One of the best versions of nasi lemak I've had and their claypot vegetables with tofu is just amazing with a lightly flavoured sauce the taste and texture of the vegetables are the hero of the dish, as it should be.
Wah Kee Wah Hoo!. I don't really understand the $$ symbol on this listing because Wah Kee is good food and terrific value.
We went there on a busy weeknight and enjoyed friendly, attentive service and good food. Traditional choices (nice satay sticks and Prawn crackers) combine with more authentic Hawker style Malaysian noodle offerings.
We chose a main meal each to share with some lovely coconut rice. Main point; servings are generous! We didn't really need a meal each. Salt and pepper calimari (the new staple seafood dish!) was peppery and tasty and the duck nice and rich. Crispy fried chicken in a sauce; delicious!
There were balloons and nice table-cloths for the two reserved birthday tables in one corner, and a simple, no-fuss atmosphere with good food.
Not bad. Some dishes are great, some are just average.
Overall the experience worth the dollar, but unlikely to be visiting on a regular basis.

Good solid hawker-style dishes. Good char kway teow (lots of "wok hei" -- the "breath of the wok") .
Sublime KL hokkien noodles -- slippery noodles in a rich (but not very dark) sauce, with lots of real pork lard.
The mee goreng is pretty good too.
Home made barley water is a bonus.
The serve of prawn crackers is extra generous.
There is a minimum charge of $10/head.
All in all an excellent way to get your fix of Malaysian and Singaporean hawker food.

I have visited this delicious restaurant for many years and made a last visit a few weeks ago as it has now closed. It was an institution to many Malaysian and Singaporean students as it reminded them of the authentic flavours of home. This place will be sorely.missed and unfortunately a victim to rent hikes.
Wah Kee is back and better than ever.
Interior is refreshed after the fire. All the staff and chefs are back. Lunch specials we ordered were the same high quality as always.
Yay, they're back. Been coming here for over 2 decades. In a road full of Asian food, this is my fave. Simple and great taste.

Great place love the food and special service from Judith. We have been eating from here with our family for 15 years. Chicken ribs and the duck are my favourite and must try. ;-)
