Review Malaysia Garden - Clayton

Alex Law
Clean and comfortable restaurant. The guy who took our order was kind enough to give us a seating as we didn't reserve in advance. Food overall was good. The fish was delicious and sizzling tofu was on point. Will go back again to try other options. Well done!!

A great Malaysian restaurant with authentic taste! Was looking for place to eat in Clayton and saw this place had many good reviews. Decided to try and it really didn't disappoint! We ordered the nasi lemak fish, Penang laksa, and the sweet and sour pork. The serving size was huge so we had to pack the pork. They cooked really fast and the foods were literally sizzling hot when they arrived. The staff was friendly and it was a nice experience having our meals here.

Nice authentic Malaysian food. We tried the fried Chicken which had a lot of flavour. The Malaysian garden fish and Kai Lan with garlic were a nice combination.

The restaurant has really delicious authentic dishes, good portion sizes, quality and value. Thankyou Jeff and Carol for making us feel comfortable. Parking can be tricky on weekends. Spicy Ginger fried Pork, Seafood Nasi Goreng, and Salted fried Squid.

Some nice Malaysian food. The cereal chicken was good and the desserts were yummy as well.

Great food, easy parking nearby and wonderful venue! Book ahead to secure a table! It’s popular so gets booked out often.

Staff:5 out of 5 Restaurant service:5 out of five Food: 3 out of 5; too greasy(oily) for me which thinking is Mala food’s essence.

We went for dinner today. The service was excellent and food was delicious.Jeff was looking after our table and gave us very good suggestions and took great care to get everything right. We had special fried rice, sea food Nasi goreng , salt & pepper squid and Golden brightness for dessert. Everything was cooked to perfection. I haven’t been to Malaysian garden over 15 years. When I went today, I was very happy that I decided to check it out again. We will definitely visit again. Good Job Chef and the team.👌

Super yummy and very reasonably priced! Nice venue with friendly prompt service. Would definitely recommend :)

Amazing service here, came here with a group of 11 and extended our booking twice because we were caught up with a ceremony but all along the staffs were friendly and accommodating. Food was also super delicious and authentic, recommend the curry chicken and belacan kangkung with sotong. Would definitely come back especially when I'm homesick

Had the Char Kuey Teow a few days ago and I gotta say as a Malaysian it was pretty good. Flavour was there and seasoning was just right. The crispy fried pork lard was definitely the winning deal for me. Had a little pool of oil though but other than that the CKT here is definitely the best and most authentic I've had so far in Melbourne

I remember coming here as a child, but haven't been here in a about 10years. I thought the service was efficient and friendly. Nasi lemak was delicious! Will be back!

The buttermilk prawn taste like curry however it is really really good and fresh !! <br/>Sambal sotong is abit watery<br/>The nasi goreng in hot flavour is spicy, taste like chili padi <br/><br/>Averall very nice will def come back to try other things in the menu

This place is pretty hidden, like a secret garden. It is located above a pub and it looks like it has been recently refurbished. <br/><br/>Service was very warm and genuine. We ordered a few hawker style dishes to share. The oyster omelette was a huge let down. It was nothing like the Malaysian style oyster omelette (with starch and spring onions). The nasi lemak was reasonable - the rice was not fragrant though but the accompanying condiments were up to scratch. The combination on rice had generous portions of meat and sea food on a bed of rice. This was simple and satisfying. <br/><br/>It was a reasonable experience overall but it's not likely that we will be returning anytime soon.

I have been coming to this place for the last 15 years and hands down this is one of my favourite restaurants, the quality of which has never declined. I always order the same thing because it’s just too good - spicy ginger fried chicken, Nasi goreng, beef rendang, roti bread and for dessert the sago pudding. I’ve tried a number of the dishes here and cannot fault any of them, something as basic as the roti bread is the best here- seriously. I’ve taken many friends to this place and they’ve always returned. The service is always top notch too and the waiters/waitresses are always so lovely and polite.

This place has been our family all-time favourite in Clayton for years. The view overlooking the vibrant suburb has changed somewhat yet the quality of food and friendly service is pretty consistent. I have introduced gwai lo (caucasian) friends to MG and they love it! And now to spread the word here - go try this place for yourself! As good as a Malaysian mum's home cooking. Recent food pics are of Sambal Squid, Beef Rendang and the Ice Kacang dessert.

Cheap great alternative for a quick dining experience. I've been going to this place since I was a little girl. This place dominates Clayton. Had about 3 entrees and 2 mains total cost was about $55 approx. The boneless chicken is to die for it's always well cooked and juicy with no bones. The curry sauce and roti is a hit, noodle dishes are awesome there. They never fail, the service and food is quick the waiters are very polite and do a great job. I'll be back for my 100th time maybe I should get some sort of discount each time ? Hmm...

I used to go to this place all the time and after last nights experience never again! <br/>We booked a table with 18 people and most of the table were ordering the banquets. <br/>We were told by the waiter that the person was cooking one dish at a time. Why would you do that when majority of the table ordered the same thing? <br/>Multiple times we had to ask where our food was because we our table we were sitting there with just rice dishes and not the accompanying dish. <br/>My partner and I waited 30 minutes to receive our main dishes while the rest of the table already received mains. I ordered a special fried rice and chilli beef. My rice was placed on my table but the chilli beef was put on the adjoining table to us. <br/>My partner ordered the Singapore noodles and asked for medium spice. He took a couple of mouthfuls and had to run in the toilet and throw up due to it being unbelievably too hot. <br/>

The dish I order here most often is the fish nasi lemak. It comes in a banana leaf and when you unwrap the leaf, the fish in a saucy assam sauce sits on top of the rice which is also soaked in the sauce. It is delicious and comforting. This place is also does good dishes for sharing at dinnertime. The interior though, is dated and the lighting is a little dim. Overall a consistent place to dine.

Love the dessert especially bubu cha-cha. Taste like homemade. Came a few times just for this. Staff is friendly. Others food is good too...

Quite nice service and food, this is the first time for me to try Malaysian food, that really amazing since the satay of chicken is a little bit sweet! That maybe the special taste of Malaysian food. I like it ~

Came here for dinner with the family on Saturday night after dad was given a recommendation from his friend for some food Malaysian food in clayton.<br/>With lots of parking along the railway tracks, it's a convenient spot to get to with entry to the upstairs restaurant located within the pub entry on the corner.<br/><br/>We got up stairs and the place looked like your normal Asian style restaurant, it wasn't fancy or dressed up, it was just very basic tables and chairs with about half of them full of people eating. We sat down and were happy to see the menus had the pictures of each dish which helped us choose however we still managed to over order for a group of 4.<br/><br/>We ordered chicken satay skewers and spring rolls to start. The satay skewers were really tasty with the thick peanut satay sauce, the spring rolls were ok, nothing special but decently sized rolls.<br/><br/>For mains we then ordered Nasi Goreng, Hainenese chicken, beef rendang, Singapore fried chicken, chicken curry and roti bread! First thing to mention is the portion size, the food is served on huge plates and in huge bowls, they are really big portion sizes which is amazing value and great to share with groups. Next was the quality of the food, absolutely amazing; strong bold flavours, the Chicken curry and the Beef rendang were both rich from the authentic spiced sauce bases and loaded with good portions of well cut meat. The Nasi Goreng was such a great meal to use as the main rice dish, with such a generous serving and tasty flavour this is a family favourite. The hainenese chicken and the Singaporean chicken were cooked well but both had very unique flavours that weren't a big hit with the family, the hainenese being predominantly ginger based whilst the Singaporean chicken had a strong seafood style glaze. <br/>The roti bread was thick and layered which is unique Malaysian style version of roti, which tasted delicious. <br/><br/>Overall this is now one of our new family favourite spots and something we would recommend to anyone looking for a Malaysian fix or wanting to do a group dinner as Malaysia gardens is ideal with the space, huge portions, great flavours and cheap prices!

Located above the Clayton hotel right on Clayton railway station. We were looking for somewhere close to Monash uni to have dinner. This place was a random find but was such a delight! We had the sar hor fan which was tasty, filled with goodies (including the traditional super crispy pork fat croutons) and perfectly sauces. Also as the curry laksa again tasty great soup and loads of ingredients.

A few months ago, I stumbled upon this place as I searched for restaurants that are still operating in Clayton pass 9pm. It was late and I needed to feed JB who unfortunately, had issues with his driver's licence, a self caused stress matter that could have easily been avoided :p. Having already ate that day, I had a drink whilst I watched him devour his meal. Ever since then, JB has been frequenting the restaurant and vouched for it whenever we met up and only recently did I decide on visiting this for a meal.

Came with my husband and a friend for dinner wanting to try something new and local. The menu is really big, and they have a lot of variety and lots of dishes to share. We ordered the roast pork with vegetables, another pork dish, lemon chicken, Singapore noodles and side rice. The meals came out quickly, and were all really decent portion sizes, we found it too hard to finish everything.. the lemon chicken was really nice, it wasn't battered or fried and chicken was really juicy.

Went there on Saturday night. Only a couple of occupied tables when we arrived but was full when we left. We had chicken rice and sar hor fun. Chicken may have been a bit over cooked, rice was fluffy and tasty. The chilli and ginger sauces were good compliment to the rice. Had to ask for more. Sar hor fun was bit lumpy but sauce was well cooked. Came with pickled green chilli. Service was pretty good from waitress with air stewardess uniform. Decor was mediocre but you won't go there for the decor.

The service provided when I came here was fantastic. And it's nice to find a Malaysian restaurant in my area, food was a slight letdown however. It was just average.

I've driven past Malaysia Garden all the time when I'm on Clayton Road. This restaurant also catches my eye when I'm stuck at the train tracks and my eyes are looking around aimlessly. It looked pretty shabby from the outside, but the people inside looked like they were enjoying their food, so I told myself that one day I'll try them out. We were at Clayton one night, Helen didn't have much of an appetite, so I decided to come here for a quick meal to check these guys out!<br/><br/>We parked at a spot near the train tracks. The walk to the restaurant was freaken scary! I was willing to overcome my fears in search for some quality Malaysian food though. I walked up the stairs and into the restaurant. I looked around and thought to myself "where the hell am I?" This place looked rough... it was like a scene from a Hong Kong gangsta movie, I'm picturing men running up the stairs with poles and machetes! I didn't even think a restaurant that looked like this existed, I guess you can call this 'vintage Asian'? There was an incomplete wall near the toilet, it was also quite dark and gloomy, maybe they were still using 25W incan bulbs to light the place up? I assume using brighter LED lights would ruin their vintage feel! <br/><br/>Anyway I don't want to mock the decor anymore, so onto the food. Helen got the hot & sour soup, which might as well have been called corn starch soup. It was so thick and gooey, and the it tasted like it came from a packet. I ordered a Hainan Chicken Rice. It was quite bland and the chicken was on the tough side. The rice has seen better days also, the texture was a little hard, like it had been sitting in the rice cooker for way too long. Soy milk was just the standard ones poured, full of sugar and poured from the 2L plastic bottles. I dunno what I was thinking ordering this drink, for some reason I was holding onto the hope that they made it fresh. Think I've been spoilt at some Taiwanese restaurants with the soy milk drink. <br/><br/>Service was just the very stock standard Asian style service. Barely crack a smile, put food down, clean table and collect money. Well at least they weren't rude, so I guess they got that going for them. To top it off, they charge a card surcharge if you don't spend $30. We just paid the surcharge cause there was seriously nothing else we wanted to order after the food we got. I'll finish off by saying... what is up with the pink serviettes? Last time I saw these were at a 1980s wedding! I have no idea that these serviettes were still around, I can only assume that they got a massive discount because no restaurant would consider using them these days!

Underrated! A small restaurant but evidently gets Busier. Quiet but not too quiet. Perfect place. Generous portions of food and it's all very tasty! Service was great! Very friendly staff! Nothing negative to say at all.

Have been here maybe only 2 times in the past 20 yrs! More due to the amount of variety of foods in the vicinity. Tonight found myself lazy with a craving for char kwei teoh! Remembered this little spot with 60s decore and waitresses with Singapore airline uniforms. anyways ordered the CKT, sambal balajan kangkong and their version of the wat tan hor (egg chiffon gravy flat rice noodles). <br/><br/>CKT - maaaan it was good. Haven't had it this good since Malaymas. Then recalled Malaymas using bits of fried lard and what do you know these guys did the same! Very bad for u but maaaan was it tasty! <br/><br/>Wat tan hor - hmmm not bad not bad. will I order again - Yep. Had more than enough seafood and portion size. <br/><br/>sambal kangkong - maybe was a bad day at the market. The kangkong was old and chewy. too salty as well.

I have been going to this place for the last 25 years (I'm 31, take it easy :P) and i have enjoyed many dishes at this place. The Nasi Goerang has not changed one bit and is still a must order. The Kangkong is amazing and always hits the spot. The chicken & corn soup is also something special but does fill you up. Ginger chicken is a great dish but it is deep fried fried in batter, not that its bad :) i recommend anyone that wants asian great food, friendly staff, and a convenient location right out the front of clayton station this is definitely a place to visit. It's also BYO. I hope this place brings you as much quality food amd good times, as it has for me. Enjoy!

Been coming here with my family since I was in a high chair. My last two visits have now convinced me to never go again. First time we all received banana fritters that were chalky and black on the inside. Manager insisted they were fresh....they were not. Gave it another chance a week ago. The last straw. Asked for chopped chillis for the table. Mould all throughout the chillis. Had to ask three time for new chilli, each time they were mouldy. Had the meegoren and a chicken curry...the potatoes were sour and so was the bean curd. Clearly the food was off. Wish I had taken a picture.<br/>Sad that the Malaysian gardens has dropped its standards. The staff didn't care too much either. I will not be recommending it anymore and will no longer be a customer.

Location of this restro is nice and so is ambience. Food was good but not exceptional. I only had veg food so on that basis i can say it was kinda fine place but yea you get real good quantity in serve so value for money kind of place.<br/>Cheerrss

Malaysian Garden is where I go to get Mum her favourite nasi goreng. (Comes in 3 levels of 'heat'...mild, medium or hot. My advice is that even if you like it hot, get the medium cos the hot is HELLA hot!)  Everywhere else she eats this dish she compares it to MG and it's often not as good. Salt n pepper squid is great and so are the fried pork wontons. Sambal squid and sambal prawns are flavoursome and go well with either the nasi goreng or coconut rice. I used to get he fried pork wontons with coconut rice. Prices have gone up recently but that's pretty much everywhere right? The food wasn't the best for a while, they went a bit downhill but we decided to try again this year and it seems to have recovered quite well.  The guy there is friendly and accommodating. When ordering take away, his phone manner is better than most Asian restaurants I've ordered from. Some of the waitresses that work there now could learn from this guy. They really bring down the experience of dining in at MG...worse than the decor even! The main reason I opted for take away tonight. Oh but dessert almost makes up for the lack of courtesy, smiles etc.  Try the fried ice cream or even the golden brightness...a change from the norm and quite refreshing to the palate after somewhat strong flavours such as the sambal dishes aforementioned.

Forget the location, the decor and forget the service.... let's be real about this great Asian restaurants don't rely on any of these it's all about the food and Malaysia Garden has offered my family and friends hundreds of gut filling banquets throughout the years. During my homecoming weekend in Melbourne I was so happy to have dinner at MG and relive those flavours that are forever etched in my taste buds. My Auntie said order what ever you like and miss. So I did, Sar Hor Fun (flat rice noodles in an egg gravy with greens and pork crackling seasoned with picked chillies), salt and pepper squid (probably the best you will get in the south east), beef rendang (a generous serving of soft and tender beef in a rich coconut curry sauce), nasi goreng (an old classic) and finally the best dish you will ever have and an absolute legend spicy ginger fried chicken boneless. This is what dreams are made of! Forget the old shopping centre chinese favourites like sweet and sour pork, lemon chicken beef and black bean. Ginger chicken is the bomb! Packed with flavour with the right balance and seasoning it is a must!<br/><br/>I love Malaysia Garden, the cool thing about it is no matter how long you've been away you'll always get the same experience! Satisfying fullness<br/>

Whole fish was nice. But most of the food has almost same taste. Will visit only once in a while unless something really nice offering comes up!

Possibly the worst laksa I've never had. The curry had too much cumin in it which overpowered the rest of the dish. I ordered a curry laksa but there was one piece of chicken in it and not much else.<br/><br/>Do not come here if you like laksa and are looking to have a good quality Malaysian meal.
Ramieleatsshootsandleaves
It's not a very pretty place to eat, as the decor is rather dated - but I guess that could apply to more places nearby anyway!<br/>I had their Hainanese chicken which was a bit bland for me, while my partner had another bland rice dish. <br/>Been here about 2-3 times and unfortunately the experiences have't been enough for me to want to return more often.

Normally we go to Clayton for Kebabs or Dumplings but tonight i wanted something else. Our friend told us about this place ages ago so we thought we might as well give it a go.  We ordered a couple of dishes. I ordered a combination egg noodle dish and it was amazing. Much better than Papparich and the staff are friendly. We will come back to try some other dishes. The decor needs a bit of updating but otherwise we are happy with the place.

My first impression of Malaysia Garden was good. The stairs leading to the entrance can appear as a barrier for disabled or elderly people, that's one thing to keep in mind. When i arrived at the restaurant, i was promptly served and normally ushered quickly to my reservation table. Malaysia Garden is always bustling, especially between 7pm-8pm. Personally, the staff were efficient and friendly enough (not rude but not the most polite either). The ambiance could do better with yellowish or dimmer yellow lighting, i did not found the fluorescent white lighting to be pleasant for dining. Pricewise, it is reasonable for Malaysian cuisine as it is fairly proportionate to its portions.<br/><br/>Dishes I've tried:<br/>Belachan Okra- Well-cooked and flavoursome. Always consistent as well!<br/>Deep fried chicken spare ribs- Consistently crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Thumbs up<br/>Spicy egg plant- Considering i have never been a fan of eggplant dishes, i actually don't mind this dish here. Eggplant lovers, try this!<br/>Fried squid- Sprinkled abudantly with seasoning, the fried squid was well-cooked and crunchy. Recommended<br/><br/>Drinks i've tried:<br/>Teh Tarik- decent taste but not outstanding<br/><br/>Malaysia Garden would be one of those restaurants where i would occasionally catch up w family and relatives. However, if you ask me whether i would be a frequent patron? My answer is no. While this place generally doesn't fault, it does not leave enough of an impression.

Back when I visited this place in 2011 it was well known for its quality of food and I quite enjoyed their dishes. However, lately it doesn't seem to be as great as it was before. Nevertheless it's still quite a decent place when compared to a few others. Love their chilli prawns the best 👍

Don't understand why this place is so popular considering the poor quality of food. Long wait times for food - we waited 45 minutes for food to come out. Our Loh Bak was cold in the middle, chicken was overcooked and dry, pork was barely recognisable. Plus, definitely overpriced. Abort restaurant!
I Eat Therefore I Am
I must have been to Malaysia Gardens at least 10 times, but never remember to bring a camera. Finally I remembered so I thought I would write it up. I have only ever been here for lunch, Friday work lunches. The only time I came here for dinner, it was fu

While there's nothing fancy about Malaysia Garden Restaurant I am quite the fan. It likely looked tired and rundown even when new, and the floor to ceiling windows along one whole wall give a stunning view of the (not) photogenic Dandenong train line. For a down market restaurant I also like the incongruous way the waiting staff dress like extras from Singapore Airlines ads. I think that's part of the charm though, combining these disjointed elements with good if a little inconsistent food, large serves and low prices. The menu is quite long and filled with Malaysian dishes rather than a pan-Asian mixture. While I think it tended more towards the Chinese Malaysian it did also have numerous ventures into Malay, Nyonya and Indian-Malaysian territory as well. To make sure we had enough room to sample desserts we were restricted to four mains between the five of us, resulting in later gnashing of teeth over the failure to try the laksa. The one dish which I didn't particularly like was the

Best cha kuey teow in Melbourne. Been eating at Malaysia Garden for over 20 years and it's still the best cha kuey teow in town. How can one tell? CKT has to have deep fried pork lard and cockles as they form the base of the flavour - any CKT you have without it is merely stirred fried rice noodle. And all those who complain about the service - well let's face it - you don't eat Malaysian food because of the service. If service is what you are after, try a hatted restaurant.

CUSTOMER SATISFACTON NOT HIGH ON OUR LIST. Been ordering here for many years because the food is tasty.<br/>Unfortunately today, after ordering Singapore noodles which were bland and not the same as ordered on a previous day,the phone call we made to request credit as we live 40mns away and were unable to return food, resulted in restaurant refusing to give credit.<br/>The Penang Laksa also needed a better description as for $10.80, it was essentially just cucumber, a tiny bit of something that tasted like tuna in a thin sour soup, with a bit of noodle thrown in.<br/>Very disappointed in service, the unwillingness to budge from what was described as 'House Rules'<br/>- obviously CUSTOMER SATISFACTION is not high on the list of this restaurant.

Very good service. The waitresses are very friendly and efficient. Food wise better than most Malaysian restaurants. I like the Malaysian desserts edpecially the ice kacang and bubur cha cha.
Shish, The Foodie
Great place!. I have tried several Malaysian restaurants in Melbourne and this is definitely the best of all. The food is very tasty and the prices are reasonable. Unlike most Asian restaurants in Melbourne, this place has a decent service and the atmosphere is very pleasant. It is well suitable for a long sit/chat on a cold winter night!

Dinner Review.. I've been here a few times in the past and I must say I'm getting less impressed each time. The first time I went there the food and service was excellent. The last three times I've been the food has been exceptional but the service was EXTREMELY poor. This one lady walked off half way through us ordering. The last three times I've been here this lady has been extremely rude and I won't be going here again.
Shruti
We ordered a spicy prawn which was alright but the Nasi goreng was bland and dry, and the spicy eggplant was too oily. Although food came out in 15 mins, was not impressed with the food overall. We ordered a roti chanai and it turned out to be a puff pastry out of a packet. It was Ok but for this price, there's a lot more to choose from in the burbs.
Genuine Food Lover
The food is quality! My girlfriend and family regularly go here and we love it. The Salt and Pepper Squid, Boneless Chicken Curry, Char Kway Teow Noodles, Malaysian Gardens whole Fish and Sago Pudding are all winners at Malaysian Gardens! Service isn't the greatest, but the food is AMAZING!

Came here for a birthday last night and was not impressed. everyone shared a banquet and there was not a single good dish, i literally wanted to vomit after eating the spring roll and there curries were wayy to sweet!!! I was expecting the restaurent to be bad BUT NOT AS BAD AS THIS!!!
ManganMaster
Decent food, if you are not worry about the service.. Went here last weekend and order quite a few dishes : Belachan kangkong, roti special, Singaporean fried chicken, Tofu mince pork hot plate, mixed satay and also nice warm teh tarek(milk tea).<br/><br/>Food come up quite fast, however the rice was coming out a bit late. The male waiter is quite nice, however I have found that the other 2 female waitress to be not that attentive and not even smiling (probly tired or weather too cold).<br/><br/><br/>Food serving is quite decent, and price wise is okay. I like the fact they do have a lot of variety. I will try again next time, who knows this time they will be in better mood :)

Ive been coming here since i was a little boy. The people bring me to the place allthe time.the staff are always very kind and the food is yummy.nasi goerang and chilli prawns have to take the cake

Unfried fried icecream!!. Meal was not bad but nothing to rave about. We ordered fried icecream for desert which we have had numerous times at other places. It was stone cold on the outside so coating was wet. I told the waitress that it had not been refried and she insisted that it had been, but the coating was as frozen as the icecream. I gave it back to her and refused to pay for it. I understand that things have to be made in advance in restaurants but fried icecream should be hot and crisp on the outside and the icecream frozen on the inside. I am an Aussie and I shouldn't have to explain to an Asian restaurant how to cook their own cuisine. Won't be back.
Jack Cassidy
Very rich and reasonable, defintely better than Laksa King. I love Malaysian food after spending 3 months in Kuala Lumpur & Penang. My friend in Kew recommended me this place and I thought it odd to recommend a place so far from her home so thought it must be good! Usually I stick with Box Hill, Springvale, Footscray or China Town so I wasn't expecting much when I arrived in Clayton.<br/><br/>The place itself is nothing special, the stairs smelt of homeless people however clean inside. We ordered Belachan Squid, Sayur Masak Lemak (beancurd&veg curry), plain and special roti (stuffed with egg&chilli), coconut rice, Fish Nasi Lemak and Kai Lan. <br/><br/>All dishes were very rich so tasty but you need lots of rice to go with it, some were too salty or oily but that's why it's tasty at first. The roti was like the stuff you buy at Asian groceries and warm up yourself, not fresh, preheated from packet, chewy, tough and not at all flaky or light. It came cut into squares and dry instead of moist. <br/><br/>The proportions are good, we couldn't eat it all so took it home. I especially enjoyed the Sayur but could only eat a little because it was so rich. Others loved the fish lemak. Veg dishes were tasty but salty too. Basically, lots of salt, oil and intense flavours so wouldn't eat often but good for occasions. <br/><br/>I've been to many Malaysian eateries in Melbourne and this stands up there with Laksa King and Pad Chilli - very good but very rich so make sure you order lots of water and rice! There's never a queue and the staff seem pretty friendly. <br/><br/>Not the best Malaysian I've ever had but it's above average.<br/><br/>I'm eating the leftovers now and better after adding lots of rice noodles to it! <br/>Average price of dishes are from $10.80 to $22.50 for mains and around $5 for sides/starters/desserts. <br/><br/>We didn't have room for dessert but we're not keen on Malaysian desserts as it's usually just a pile of expensive shaved ice laced with sugar (except for sago). But I will go back so maybe next time I will try the desserts and write another review.<br/><br/>Why there is no menu on the internet is odd because loads of people have blogged about it. So anyway, this is a copy of the takeaway menu attached.

Having sampled most of what melb has to offer Malaysian food wise, given im Malaysian myself I have to say that they have the best n unique fish dish around. Called Malaysian garden fish, we always call in advance to order it to avoid missing out n also waiting too long.<br/><br/>It has just the right kind of spiciness n packs a punch in terms of taste. although deep fried n then covered with this amazing sauce, I gladly finish off everything once everyone has had their worth. Including all the sauce. so if ur into rich spicey flavours, def worth a try!

I've been a regular for nearly 20 years !!! I've tried many other Malaysian restaurants in the area and nothing compares !!!

I ordered the nasi lemak fish and it was disgusting! Presented nicely, however thats the only good thing i can say about that dish. My friends all enjoyed their meals, so I guess it was just my bad choice in food.

Worst singapore rice noodle i ever have

Very dirty and shabby place. Cups plates and spoons still have old food on them. Tables sticky and sponges they use to wipe it Make it smell foul lke "wet dog"Staff rude and slow. Food average def don't waste Your time

So So. I used to think that its char keoy teow and nasi lemak were the best in Melbourne two years ago until I go to explore Malaysian hawker food in Melbourne. The food there is average and if you ask me what is the recommendation for the dish there, I couldn't really answer you. 5/10.
The_d_rock
I wish it were good, but it isn't. Great location and an interesting outlook on the second floor overlooking the train line with a giant billboard beaming down on it. It would be even better with an outdoor seating area in the warm weather.<br/>Alas, the food is the disapoinment- I have been many times and each time left feeling a little unwell. The son in law eggs do taste good though.

Food is so-so but what i really didnt like was when I took-away chendol: i ce home to find that it wad a container of cold coconut milk with green jelly: no gula melaka and no red beans-it tasted disgusting-$5.50 for coconut milk and jelly - should be made a crime. I threw the whole thing out

Maybe other dishes are nice but the Har Mee I had was one of the worst I have tasted. The soup was too bland. Portion was huge though. The hot and spicy soup was ok.

Like it. Great for dinner with a heap of friends, good food well priced. Service is lovely too.

Great Food, Luv the Nasi Goreng. Visited Malaysia Gardens for Mother's Day. Stand out dishes were the Nasi Goreng, Spicy Stuffed Fish and Spicy Egg plant or Brinjal. The Service was good, taking into consideration how busy it was. Big fan of the Nasi Goreng, good chilli hit with no fillers (fish cake etc). Look forward to trying the Malaysia Garden Fish, next time.

Good for hawker dishes, terrible for dinner meals.

Good food. Sunday dinner for 2.<br/><br/>Pros:<br/>* Food OK.<br/>* Male waiter polite.<br/>* Liked the Hainanese chicken rice.<br/><br/>Cons:<br/>* Carpet needs a vacuum between lunch and dinner.

Average. Some dishes are better than others, it's a bit touch & go. It's not bad food tho
