Super yummy and very reasonably priced! Nice venue with friendly prompt service. Would definitely recommend :)
Amazing service here, came here with a group of 11 and extended our booking twice because we were caught up with a ceremony but all along the staffs were friendly and accommodating. Food was also super delicious and authentic, recommend the curry chicken and belacan kangkung with sotong. Would definitely come back especially when I'm homesick
Had the Char Kuey Teow a few days ago and I gotta say as a Malaysian it was pretty good. Flavour was there and seasoning was just right. The crispy fried pork lard was definitely the winning deal for me. Had a little pool of oil though but other than that the CKT here is definitely the best and most authentic I've had so far in Melbourne
I remember coming here as a child, but haven't been here in a about 10years. I thought the service was efficient and friendly. Nasi lemak was delicious! Will be back!
I have been coming to this place for the last 15 years and hands down this is one of my favourite restaurants, the quality of which has never declined. I always order the same thing because it’s just too good - spicy ginger fried chicken, Nasi goreng, beef rendang, roti bread and for dessert the sago pudding. I’ve tried a number of the dishes here and cannot fault any of them, something as basic as the roti bread is the best here- seriously. I’ve taken many friends to this place and they’ve always returned. The service is always top notch too and the waiters/waitresses are always so lovely and polite.
This place has been our family all-time favourite in Clayton for years. The view overlooking the vibrant suburb has changed somewhat yet the quality of food and friendly service is pretty consistent. I have introduced gwai lo (caucasian) friends to MG and they love it! And now to spread the word here - go try this place for yourself! As good as a Malaysian mum's home cooking. Recent food pics are of Sambal Squid, Beef Rendang and the Ice Kacang dessert.
Last week I try from Malaysian garden, I love Asian food most of the time I try to had Thai food so I decided Malaysian food this time it was nice and service superb. I will definitely recommend to everyone thanks
Cheap great alternative for a quick dining experience. I've been going to this place since I was a little girl. This place dominates Clayton. Had about 3 entrees and 2 mains total cost was about $55 approx. The boneless chicken is to die for it's always well cooked and juicy with no bones. The curry sauce and roti is a hit, noodle dishes are awesome there. They never fail, the service and food is quick the waiters are very polite and do a great job. I'll be back for my 100th time maybe I should get some sort of discount each time ? Hmm...
Love the dessert especially bubu cha-cha. Taste like homemade. Came a few times just for this. Staff is friendly. Others food is good too...
Quite nice service and food, this is the first time for me to try Malaysian food, that really amazing since the satay of chicken is a little bit sweet! That maybe the special taste of Malaysian food. I like it ~
Came here for dinner with the family on Saturday night after dad was given a recommendation from his friend for some food Malaysian food in clayton.
With lots of parking along the railway tracks, it's a convenient spot to get to with entry to the upstairs restaurant located within the pub entry on the corner.
We got up stairs and the place looked like your normal Asian style restaurant, it wasn't fancy or dressed up, it was just very basic tables and chairs with about half of them full of people eating. We sat down and were happy to see the menus had the pictures of each dish which helped us choose however we still managed to over order for a group of 4.
We ordered chicken satay skewers and spring rolls to start. The satay skewers were really tasty with the thick peanut satay sauce, the spring rolls were ok, nothing special but decently sized rolls.
For mains we then ordered Nasi Goreng, Hainenese chicken, beef rendang, Singapore fried chicken, chicken curry and roti bread! First thing to mention is the portion size, the food is served on huge plates and in huge bowls, they are really big portion sizes which is amazing value and great to share with groups. Next was the quality of the food, absolutely amazing; strong bold flavours, the Chicken curry and the Beef rendang were both rich from the authentic spiced sauce bases and loaded with good portions of well cut meat. The Nasi Goreng was such a great meal to use as the main rice dish, with such a generous serving and tasty flavour this is a family favourite. The hainenese chicken and the Singaporean chicken were cooked well but both had very unique flavours that weren't a big hit with the family, the hainenese being predominantly ginger based whilst the Singaporean chicken had a strong seafood style glaze.
The roti bread was thick and layered which is unique Malaysian style version of roti, which tasted delicious.
Overall this is now one of our new family favourite spots and something we would recommend to anyone looking for a Malaysian fix or wanting to do a group dinner as Malaysia gardens is ideal with the space, huge portions, great flavours and cheap prices!
Located above the Clayton hotel right on Clayton railway station. We were looking for somewhere close to Monash uni to have dinner. This place was a random find but was such a delight! We had the sar hor fan which was tasty, filled with goodies (including the traditional super crispy pork fat croutons) and perfectly sauces. Also as the curry laksa again tasty great soup and loads of ingredients.
A few months ago, I stumbled upon this place as I searched for restaurants that are still operating in Clayton pass 9pm. It was late and I needed to feed JB who unfortunately, had issues with his driver's licence, a self caused stress matter that could have easily been avoided :p. Having already ate that day, I had a drink whilst I watched him devour his meal. Ever since then, JB has been frequenting the restaurant and vouched for it whenever we met up and only recently did I decide on visiting this for a meal.
Came with my husband and a friend for dinner wanting to try something new and local. The menu is really big, and they have a lot of variety and lots of dishes to share. We ordered the roast pork with vegetables, another pork dish, lemon chicken, Singapore noodles and side rice. The meals came out quickly, and were all really decent portion sizes, we found it too hard to finish everything.. the lemon chicken was really nice, it wasn't battered or fried and chicken was really juicy.
Went there on Saturday night. Only a couple of occupied tables when we arrived but was full when we left. We had chicken rice and sar hor fun. Chicken may have been a bit over cooked, rice was fluffy and tasty. The chilli and ginger sauces were good compliment to the rice. Had to ask for more. Sar hor fun was bit lumpy but sauce was well cooked. Came with pickled green chilli. Service was pretty good from waitress with air stewardess uniform. Decor was mediocre but you won't go there for the decor.
Underrated! A small restaurant but evidently gets Busier. Quiet but not too quiet. Perfect place. Generous portions of food and it's all very tasty! Service was great! Very friendly staff! Nothing negative to say at all.
I have been going to this place for the last 25 years (I'm 31, take it easy :P) and i have enjoyed many dishes at this place. The Nasi Goerang has not changed one bit and is still a must order. The Kangkong is amazing and always hits the spot. The chicken & corn soup is also something special but does fill you up. Ginger chicken is a great dish but it is deep fried fried in batter, not that its bad :) i recommend anyone that wants asian great food, friendly staff, and a convenient location right out the front of clayton station this is definitely a place to visit. It's also BYO. I hope this place brings you as much quality food amd good times, as it has for me. Enjoy!
Location of this restro is nice and so is ambience. Food was good but not exceptional. I only had veg food so on that basis i can say it was kinda fine place but yea you get real good quantity in serve so value for money kind of place.
Cheerrss
Forget the location, the decor and forget the service.... let's be real about this great Asian restaurants don't rely on any of these it's all about the food and Malaysia Garden has offered my family and friends hundreds of gut filling banquets throughout the years. During my homecoming weekend in Melbourne I was so happy to have dinner at MG and relive those flavours that are forever etched in my taste buds. My Auntie said order what ever you like and miss. So I did, Sar Hor Fun (flat rice noodles in an egg gravy with greens and pork crackling seasoned with picked chillies), salt and pepper squid (probably the best you will get in the south east), beef rendang (a generous serving of soft and tender beef in a rich coconut curry sauce), nasi goreng (an old classic) and finally the best dish you will ever have and an absolute legend spicy ginger fried chicken boneless. This is what dreams are made of! Forget the old shopping centre chinese favourites like sweet and sour pork, lemon chicken beef and black bean. Ginger chicken is the bomb! Packed with flavour with the right balance and seasoning it is a must!
I love Malaysia Garden, the cool thing about it is no matter how long you've been away you'll always get the same experience! Satisfying fullness

Normally we go to Clayton for Kebabs or Dumplings but tonight i wanted something else. Our friend told us about this place ages ago so we thought we might as well give it a go. We ordered a couple of dishes. I ordered a combination egg noodle dish and it was amazing. Much better than Papparich and the staff are friendly. We will come back to try some other dishes. The decor needs a bit of updating but otherwise we are happy with the place.
Back when I visited this place in 2011 it was well known for its quality of food and I quite enjoyed their dishes. However, lately it doesn't seem to be as great as it was before. Nevertheless it's still quite a decent place when compared to a few others. Love their chilli prawns the best 👍
There used to be a time when I didn't know the difference between Malaysian, Singaporean, Indonesian, and Thai cuisine. The Dark Ages as I now think of it. But over the past 3 years, having undertaken/been coerced into undertaking frequent lunch and dinne
Best cha kuey teow in Melbourne. Been eating at Malaysia Garden for over 20 years and it's still the best cha kuey teow in town. How can one tell? CKT has to have deep fried pork lard and cockles as they form the base of the flavour - any CKT you have without it is merely stirred fried rice noodle. And all those who complain about the service - well let's face it - you don't eat Malaysian food because of the service. If service is what you are after, try a hatted restaurant.
Very good service. The waitresses are very friendly and efficient. Food wise better than most Malaysian restaurants. I like the Malaysian desserts edpecially the ice kacang and bubur cha cha.
Great place!. I have tried several Malaysian restaurants in Melbourne and this is definitely the best of all. The food is very tasty and the prices are reasonable. Unlike most Asian restaurants in Melbourne, this place has a decent service and the atmosphere is very pleasant. It is well suitable for a long sit/chat on a cold winter night!
The food is quality! My girlfriend and family regularly go here and we love it. The Salt and Pepper Squid, Boneless Chicken Curry, Char Kway Teow Noodles, Malaysian Gardens whole Fish and Sago Pudding are all winners at Malaysian Gardens! Service isn't the greatest, but the food is AMAZING!
Decent food, if you are not worry about the service.. Went here last weekend and order quite a few dishes : Belachan kangkong, roti special, Singaporean fried chicken, Tofu mince pork hot plate, mixed satay and also nice warm teh tarek(milk tea).
Food come up quite fast, however the rice was coming out a bit late. The male waiter is quite nice, however I have found that the other 2 female waitress to be not that attentive and not even smiling (probly tired or weather too cold).
Food serving is quite decent, and price wise is okay. I like the fact they do have a lot of variety. I will try again next time, who knows this time they will be in better mood :)
Ive been coming here since i was a little boy. The people bring me to the place allthe time.the staff are always very kind and the food is yummy.nasi goerang and chilli prawns have to take the cake
Very rich and reasonable, defintely better than Laksa King. I love Malaysian food after spending 3 months in Kuala Lumpur & Penang. My friend in Kew recommended me this place and I thought it odd to recommend a place so far from her home so thought it must be good! Usually I stick with Box Hill, Springvale, Footscray or China Town so I wasn't expecting much when I arrived in Clayton.
The place itself is nothing special, the stairs smelt of homeless people however clean inside. We ordered Belachan Squid, Sayur Masak Lemak (beancurd&veg curry), plain and special roti (stuffed with egg&chilli), coconut rice, Fish Nasi Lemak and Kai Lan.
All dishes were very rich so tasty but you need lots of rice to go with it, some were too salty or oily but that's why it's tasty at first. The roti was like the stuff you buy at Asian groceries and warm up yourself, not fresh, preheated from packet, chewy, tough and not at all flaky or light. It came cut into squares and dry instead of moist.
The proportions are good, we couldn't eat it all so took it home. I especially enjoyed the Sayur but could only eat a little because it was so rich. Others loved the fish lemak. Veg dishes were tasty but salty too. Basically, lots of salt, oil and intense flavours so wouldn't eat often but good for occasions.
I've been to many Malaysian eateries in Melbourne and this stands up there with Laksa King and Pad Chilli - very good but very rich so make sure you order lots of water and rice! There's never a queue and the staff seem pretty friendly.
Not the best Malaysian I've ever had but it's above average.
I'm eating the leftovers now and better after adding lots of rice noodles to it!
Average price of dishes are from $10.80 to $22.50 for mains and around $5 for sides/starters/desserts.
We didn't have room for dessert but we're not keen on Malaysian desserts as it's usually just a pile of expensive shaved ice laced with sugar (except for sago). But I will go back so maybe next time I will try the desserts and write another review.
Why there is no menu on the internet is odd because loads of people have blogged about it. So anyway, this is a copy of the takeaway menu attached.
Having sampled most of what melb has to offer Malaysian food wise, given im Malaysian myself I have to say that they have the best n unique fish dish around. Called Malaysian garden fish, we always call in advance to order it to avoid missing out n also waiting too long.
It has just the right kind of spiciness n packs a punch in terms of taste. although deep fried n then covered with this amazing sauce, I gladly finish off everything once everyone has had their worth. Including all the sauce. so if ur into rich spicey flavours, def worth a try!
I've been a regular for nearly 20 years !!! I've tried many other Malaysian restaurants in the area and nothing compares !!!
Like it. Great for dinner with a heap of friends, good food well priced. Service is lovely too.
Great Food, Luv the Nasi Goreng. Visited Malaysia Gardens for Mother's Day. Stand out dishes were the Nasi Goreng, Spicy Stuffed Fish and Spicy Egg plant or Brinjal. The Service was good, taking into consideration how busy it was. Big fan of the Nasi Goreng, good chilli hit with no fillers (fish cake etc). Look forward to trying the Malaysia Garden Fish, next time.
Good food. Sunday dinner for 2.
Pros:
* Food OK.
* Male waiter polite.
* Liked the Hainanese chicken rice.
Cons:
* Carpet needs a vacuum between lunch and dinner.
Nice view and food. Chow Kui Diu is nice
Very nice. Malaysia Garden is great! Good, interesting food and well priced - a restaurant I keep on heading back to.
Clean and comfortable restaurant. The guy who took our order was kind enough to give us a seating as we didn't reserve in advance. Food overall was good. The fish was delicious and sizzling tofu was on point. Will go back again to try other options. Well done!!
A great Malaysian restaurant with authentic taste!
Was looking for place to eat in Clayton and saw this place had many good reviews.
Decided to try and it really didn't disappoint!
We ordered the nasi lemak fish, Penang laksa, and the sweet and sour pork.
The serving size was huge so we had to pack the pork.
They cooked really fast and the foods were literally sizzling hot when they arrived.
The staff was friendly and it was a nice experience having our meals here.
Nice authentic Malaysian food. We tried the fried Chicken which had a lot of flavour. The Malaysian garden fish and Kai Lan with garlic were a nice combination.
The restaurant has really delicious authentic dishes, good portion sizes, quality and value. Thankyou Jeff and Carol for making us feel comfortable. Parking can be tricky on weekends. Spicy Ginger fried Pork, Seafood Nasi Goreng, and Salted fried Squid.
Some nice Malaysian food. The cereal chicken was good and the desserts were yummy as well.
Great food, easy parking nearby and wonderful venue! Book ahead to secure a table! It’s popular so gets booked out often.

Staff:5 out of 5
Restaurant service:5 out of five
Food: 3 out of 5; too greasy(oily) for me which thinking is Mala food’s essence.
We went for dinner today. The service was excellent and food was delicious.Jeff was looking after our table and gave us very good suggestions and took great care to get everything right. We had special fried rice, sea food Nasi goreng , salt & pepper squid and Golden brightness for dessert. Everything was cooked to perfection. I haven’t been to Malaysian garden over 15 years. When I went today, I was very happy that I decided to check it out again. We will definitely visit again. Good Job Chef and the team.👌
