Review Hodori Korean Restaurant - Clayton

Keven Luan
Good Korean food at a decent price. Had the kimchi bibimbap and beef bulgogi. The kimchi bibimbap was great and I can recommend it. The beef bulgogi was good but I would have preferred more beef over the vegetables. Expect to spend around $20/person.

It was a bit hard to find because it is on top of a barber shop but the entrace is next to it. The service was really good but I was a bit disappointed that the meat was visibly frozen. Some of beef sirloin I ordered was also yellow which meant it hadn't been covered properly. It was conveniently covered by the rest of the beef sirloin. There is also a minimum order of 3 servings of meat on the weekends which we found out during our order. We did get 5 bowls of sides and the meat came with lettuce and lots of garlic. On top of that we got three dipping sauces. Overall, the food was great and affordable other than the yellow beef. Again, staff was friendly and gave some good recommendations.

Korean Garden has been a Clayton Establishment for as long as I remember. It’s arguably one of the oldest serving restaurants around. I finally had a chance to try it once again, and it didn’t disappoint. It’s more a traditional style Korean BBQ. Nothing fancy, nothing extravagant. Good food, spacious, and will hit the spot perfectly if you’ve got a craving for Korean BBQ. In terms of pricing, it’s on the “standard” end of Korean BBQ. The only thing you need to be aware of is, try to book, cash only (even in a pandemic) and it’s closed on some days. Overall a good and satisfying experience again. Hope it continues to serve this community for decades to come.

This Korean place has been in Clayton for years. Last time visit was almost 8 years ago. Visit twice lately due to having big group dinner and cold weather. First night was hot plate dishes, they are quite oily, taste wise not outstanding either. From memory this place wasn’t bad. Second night return for Korean BBQ dinner, it’s a much better quality in terms of meat quality and selection. A better dinning experience than the first night. Located off the Main Street of Clayton. Safe place to go without booking if over 5-6 people. Customer service is just average.

Great range of Korean food from stew to table barbecue. Very much liked the potato pancake. They have a nice range of side dishes too.

Have been coming here for years... a good place for Korean food be it dishes or BBQ. A good place for groups though you may want to book ahead if >4 people. Attached picture shows the bottom floor which hardly anyone sits at but does set the mood for the restaurant. Majority of the sitting area is a more modern chair and table set up.

Came here on a weeknight and was quite busy. Service is pretty good (as long as you press the bell!) food comes out relatively quickly and has good flavours, and don't forget that you can always ask for a side dish refill!

Kimchi Hot Pot and Korean bbq various meats. Food was delicious. Each table had a call button whichvwas handy. Only thing was that the scissors were really blunt.

Took my mum here for her bday dinner, had to
Call the bell a few times before someone took our order, they messed up our orders with another 2 tables in the same room. We had to keep asking for rice, where our food was and our kimchi pancake never came, when asked how long the kimchi pancake would be we got that ‘we are fully book so maybe another 5-10 minutes’ this was after we had finish our meal... Would not come back here again.

The food deserves four stars but was let down by the service we received that night!

We came here on the weekend with a group of 10. We were seated promptly and despite our buzzer not working, did take our order at a timely manner. Food came out fast, however they missed out on so many items! All the meat dishes have come out but they didn't bring the rice... we had eaten half of the food by the time the rice came out! Also, they didn't bring our drinks till towards the end! To make matters worst, as our buzzer didn't work it was more challenging to get the staff's attention.

We then told them we were ready for dessert. They took our order but didn't clear the tables. So we sat there with piles of dirty dishes and tissues as we dessert.

We have been here a few times and saddens me to write this! Hopefully this is just a once off.

We will still be back as we do enjoy the food there!!

Off in the main food strip of Clayton is hodori! The place only takes cash so we had to walk to the petrol station to get money
The food is quite good , with quite large servings too. I got the stone pot rice and fried chicken. The rice was average but the fried chicken was so yum! Juicy , tender and flavoured nicely

It is one of the top five restaurants in Melbourne. in my personal opinion.... Clean side dishes and traditional Korean flavors!! Maybe because it rains a lot these days and it is cold... It's too cold inside.

We came without a booking Friday night and were seated immediately with plenty of available seating around. You just go through the front door, walk to the end then go upstairs to be seated, not sure why they don't make use of the lower level but regardless this place is quite spacious and has a cosy ambience. The two of us opted for the table BBQ - Moodom BBQ which included pork belly, beef sirloin, stone beef and ox tongue. We also had the Hodori Japchae and as someone with a sweet tooth, this was probably the most neutral tasting Japchae i've had. Personally i prefer it more sweeter. Food was plentiful for the two of us, we couldn't finish everything. Service was quite prompt, only the waitress couldn't really assist with recommendations when we asked, perhaps because English was not great. Okay overall but not enough for us to return unfortunately.

Generally always love Hodori Korean Garden. My fav food is definitely their cold noodles. Service is usually very good and welcoming! Go place to visit with friends and family if you enjoy korean food!

Whilst it's a bit off clayton road and not around where all the restaurants are, it's definitely worth looking for! I've been here multiple times and tried a bunch of their dishes - bulgogi, mandu and rice cake soup, jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles), chicken and tteokbokki - and I've never been disappointed! Their food is always bursting with flavour (and spice, if it's a spicy dish!) and since not many korean places sell jjajangmyeon, I get it every time I come! They also give you a variety of side dishes and the staff are always friendly!

We have been the restaurant for so many time and it was a good suburban restaurant previously. However the food quality and service become really bad now. We waited for 20 minutes for the waiter come to our table to take the order. The vegetable is not fully cooked. The pork cutlet came out black. The hot plate was burned, we requested to change a new one and got refused. Really disappointed and wouldn’t recommend to others.

Another lovely place for dinner in Clayton. From the moment you enter the Game of Thrones style door and climb the stairs to the main dining area, you are cared for by the friendly staff.

The food was excellent. From the freshly fried chicken to the silken tofu and seafood stew, everything was of a generous portion and a delight for our taste buds. We also had the bibimbap which was served in a hot stone bowl resulting in perfect crusty rice - the different textures elevated the whole experience.

Everything was priced reasonably. It goes without saying that we will be back again soon!

This place has been there for ages. It's so good that they have maintained their quality and taste wise for all the Korean food offering.

As of this summer they have introduced some new dessert menu such as their red bean shaved ice and mango shaved ice.

Price is good, I would.recommed their bbq meat dishes.

Note that this place is cash only.

Authentic Korean, ambience brings you straight to Korea! Friendly service. Always enjoys their little side dishes of kimchi & stuff but unfortunately they don’t top up like most places. We had the seafood pancake, ginseng chicken, Korean fried chicken & Beef bulgogi. Location a little out, not along the main shopping strip.

Suggestions for a 5* experience:
- free top up for sides
- EFT payment

Came here for dinner the other day because we were craving Korean food.

This place is great for groups, head upstairs for lots of seating.

Food - We ordered the usual Korean dishes -
Sides: loved the abundance of free sides!
Beef bulgogi: It was tough to eat this as it lacked offt from being marinated
Japchae: Loved the quantity however, it lacked seasoning which was disappointing
Korean Fried Chicken: We ordered the half serve soy garlic, instead we got the sweet chilli. Compared to gami this doesn’t latter up, batter was thick but if you like that then this is good for you. I wouldn’t order this one again.

Verdict: Overall, it’s a nice local restaurant however compared to other venues the food is average. The venue is great for groups and birthdays.

Tip: it’s cash only so bring cash
Terrible service. We walk in at 7:30, and the dishes coming at 8:20. Only 3 waitress on Sunday night, and we asked for chopsticks for 3 times. The side dish is like a joke, you can find the photo below, they said they are run out of potatoes and kimchi. A Korean restaurant ran out of kimchi.......maybe they were just too busy to serve the customers. At last, they are CASH ONLY.
Vanessa Cho
Service was too slow and our table was forgotten downstairs. Need more workers on the floor and in the kitchen. Food was ok but came out very slowly. Wouldn’t recommend it to others, especially sitting downstairs.

Waited for 20+ mins for first dish, no side dishes unless asked. Food is not great either compared with others. Perhaps you will be served in 20 mins on weekdays.
Savvy And Lifestyle
Ordered the shared BBQ with beef and pork. It was really nice and it comes with extras sides like Kim chi veggies. Mind you, you don't get a lot of veggies that come with the shared BBQ you have to ask for extra. But it's pretty cool how you can cook the meat and veggies yourself like a hot pot. These bbq places are becoming the "norm" now. It was good to have the family gathered around cooking something different. If you come here you must order the potatoe pancake that's something different and pretty nice. Also grabbed some pan fried dumplings which is a great appitezer.

Love this Korean restaurant. Tastes original and very popular amongst Korean family. So it must be good. Only downfall, don't really like their table arrangement. But other than that, service is good, food is delicious, price is reasonable

This is another one of my favourite places to go to for a hearty Korean meal.
It’s a nice place to go to in a big group or a small group as they have ample seating arrangements.
The waiting staff here are very friendly, attentive and accommodating.
We had the sizzling marinated beef bulgogi, sizzling spicy pork bulgogi, spicy soup with tofu and Korean fried chicken.
The servings were very generous in portion but most importantly, the flavours of the marinate and spice were pronounced and flavoursome.
Dishes were accompanied with side dishes which were a treat.
I would definitely recommend this place if you’re in the area.

Very overpriced - black bean noodles were over cooked and noodles were hard , $30 chicken will serve 1. Friend had pork belly and servings were too small for price..

first time going and it was really good. Got the kimchi soup, spicy pork and fried dumplings. Lots of side dishes and provided us with free hot tea. Waiters were nice and often came to check up on us (maybe too much). Portions are good. Fried dumplings are not as flavourful as the other dishes but it was vegetarian so ye. Gotta walk up the stairs and the ground shook when people walked heavily but all good. Dishes were served really fast. Air ventilation ain’t that great and people were eating bbq on the tables next to us so we smelt like bbq.
Chee Ching Low
Ordered their BBQ, fried chicken, cold noodles, kimchi and seafood pancakes . Fried chicken and seafood pancake were decent. I especially liked their kimchi pancake and BBQ (pork ribs). Other than that, food was okay.

Came here for a cheap dinner however cheap isn’t always good. Some of the dishes I only took a couple of bits of and couldn’t really finish it. The cold noodles was my least favourite dish. I did enjoy the Korean fried chicken and pork bulgogi

Hodori is a humble Korean restaurant that serves up a large variety of different dishes to tickle your fancy. The kimchi jigae is a real winner, especially on a cold day with some steaming rice. Food is rustic, served simply - just a hearty, homely eat.

This place only takes cash so make sure to be prepared!
Lorraine
Contrary to the pretty beat-up and dodgy exterior, the inside of Hodori had a really nice cosy vibe with its wooden fixtures. A group of us shared the Mul-Neng-Myun (cold noodles in chilled beef stock!), Dak-Galbi (teriyaki chicken sizzling plate), Bibimbap and Seafood Pancake.

Overall the food was really tasty and extremely value-for-money 👍🏼 I would defo recommend the cold noodles. The chewy noodles perfectly complemented the sweet and refreshing soup 👌🏼

Mediocre food accompanied by even worse customer service. I came here a year ago and remember the food being passable, it's clearly gone downhill since then. Waitresses didn't bother to serve our table the usual complimentary tea and side dishes until we asked about them halfway through our meal. The meal itself can be described at best as an amateurs attempt at making korean food in their home kitchen. Kimchi jiggae with pork belly was bland and despite the name of the dish our table of 3 saw only 2 thin 1x2cm slices of meat. Kimchi pancake was insanely thick and tasted more of batter and capsicum than kimchi, and it did not come with any dipping sauce. Pork bulgolgi was more onion and carrots than pork, and the cut of the pork itself was extremely rough, oddly shaped, dry, and unpleasant to the tongue.TLDR I would not recommend this place to anyone and will not be returning.

good foods, but the service was really bad, there was only 2 staffs running around like crazy! and they let us sharing sauce between 2 ppl, when we asked they were like 'sorry, when u finished, we'll give u more'.. i just dont get it!

Came for dinner with my husband on a Friday night. Didn't make a booking but were escorted to a table immediately. Only problem was we waited impatiently trying to grab the attention of the waitress. Only had 2 staff taking orders and bringing meals out. We had a little call button on our table which we called many times before finally being approached to have our order taken. We had a variety of meats to share, mushrooms and potato Pancake. The servings were pretty decent but the meat needed more accompanying sauces and seasoning. Especially for the squid which was very bland. But prices were decent and was an overall good experience.

Tried for lunch, I choosed Seafood and vegetables noodle soup, it's really tasty food. Plus their small dishes are also great! Definitely will go back again!

Pretty top notch Korean food for good value. I was happy with the generous servings and the beef bulgolgi. We didn't get to try the Korean BBQ but the sizzling plates that we did try satisfied our Korean cravings. Definitely would recommend the kimchi pancake as well. They make it crispy!
Willtravelforfood17
Food was good though the service was rude - not knowing that it was cash only, we finished eating and went to pay only realising we didn't have enough cash. The waiter rudely told us that one of us had to stay as the other person went to draw the cash and come back to pay. Other thing was I saw a waiter drop a pair of tongs on the floor and pick it up and put it back in the utensils container for future use!

Nice Korean BBQ here and enjoyable stuff serves. The price is middle range but quality is nice. The meet is fresh and side dishes are delicious. Good to enjoy it with friends
Tara
Staff were lovely and accomodating. Our beef BBQ dish was so well marinated, definitely the favourite of the night. Pickled side dishes were also delicious.
Nice cosy fireplace downstairs
Jenn
I had their BBQ & some of their dishes. The marinated beef (soy sauce) was great. The sizzling plate was also good.

However, the kimchi stew was extremely light in taste. Very watered down and I could barely taste the kimchi. Tasted like slightly salted spicy hot water, unlike the kimchi stew I've had at many other Korean restaurants. Not sure if it was a bad day for the chef or if it usually tastes like what I got.
Elaine Teoh
Tried the Korean BBQ, potato pancake and kimchi soup today. The kimchi that comes in the side dishes were pretty disappointing - it is too sour and just doesn't taste right. However the other mains turn out okay with the portion just right. Nothing too fancy but the menu does offer quite a big variety to satisfy your Korean cuisine cravings. Overall we would rate the food as average and would still return if we are around the area. One surprising thing is this place accepts cash only which is quite an inconvenience we felt.

Located very close to Clayton train station and 10 minutes drive from Monash University Clayton campus. My friends and I would always come here to satisfy our Korean food cravings on a weekday lunch hour. This place is rather quite for a weekday lunch.

The food here is nice and authentic with modest portion sizes.

The seafood pancake is crispy and always filled with decent amounts of seafood. The beef bulgogi was very tender and a generous amount of meat was served.

Hodori also serves a variety of side dishes. Most Korean restaurants have up to 3 side dishes but Hodori provides its customers with 6. My favourite side dish is their cold eggplant. It may look really simple, but it was very-well marinated. Their kimchi is also really fresh.

One of our favourite Korean restaurants in Clayton.

new management in the restaurant , the food not as great as before. very disappointing. the place also not kids friendly as I asked the staff to heat-up my baby (7month) food for 40 second, she she said the restaurant is very busy so she cant help me with that. the time she used to explain the situation would be more than 40 seconds! better help me so it will be quick. after begging several times, finally she done it. Otherwise my baby will starving that night. spend $150 that night with full disappointment. fried chicken dry, barely got any sauce. seafood-tofu soup very plain and watery. rice came a while after the food come and we asked for it. wont come back for sure.

Just like every other year, the Korean fever kicks in when the temperature drops even a slight bit. Judging by the number of Korean restaurants scattered around Clayton, I daresay my tummy would be well entertained throughout this season. Army stew - a mash of easily sought ingredients in a spicy broth. Minus the processed meat, it is pretty healthy :p
Auntik
The only reason it got a 2.5 was because the food was good. But the service was pretty bad, maybe its because we were unlucky at the time as our waiter ringer was not working and we had to wait a long time before someone came to us to serve. On top of that if you are not a regular you would feel awkward because the restaurant is upstairs and no one comes down to greet you or show you the way or not even a sign that says where to go. on top of that as soon as you enter people eating downstairs give you mean look and stare at you for no apparent reasons. but all things aside the food was great it was well done and taken good care of when preparing.
Rachael
Really good, love the service. The side dishes were very nice and tasty in nice, there were 6. The bimbimbap is really nice and crispy with good ingredients. The service was very quick and friendly. Only issue is the slightly expensive price and having to constantly ask for side dishes to be refilled. Would highly recommend
VegEats
Tuesday night work dinner. We had a variety of dishes including seafood pancake, kimchi pancake, spicy rice ball, fried tofu and fried prawn to start. Teriyaki chicken, vegetarian bobimbap and vegetarian stir fry for mains. 6 condiments provided for free and topped up once. Delicious food - vegetarians beware that seafood powder and/or pork and/or seafood stick is added to some of the dishes that otherwise appear vegetarian (eg. fried tofu and potato pancake). Excellent price $120 for 6. Service okay - doorbells on the tables to alert staff and waitress charged for rice that never came. Had a feeling they wanted us to eat and move on! Ambiance nothing to write home about - clean and tidy though. Lots of Asian's eating there - always a good sign.
Food - 0.7
Drink - 0.5
Service - 0.6
Price - 10
Ambiance - 0.6

3.4 - round to 3.5

Wow, this is a find. We have always gone to Korchi for our Korean food cravings but we've discovered this place by accident! The outside looks unpleasant, signage was a bit run down so hubby thought it wasn't gonna be a great experience. But boy, were we wrong.
The seafood pajon/ pancake is a must, crispy on the edges of the pancake and chewy in the middle and every mouthful is with seafood. Unlike some which you'll get mostly the pancake flour.
We also ordered the Yang nyum chicken, which is drumsticks of chicken deep fried and coated with sweet and spicy sauce. It was good! 👍🏻
Will definitely come back again!
good is ok and don't mind to come back for casual dinning, potato from side dish is really really good! we came on Sunday night and they are busy .will definitely come back to have another try. korean hot pot is not bad as well.
FoodieMania
One of the best Korean food finds in Clayton. Prices were very reasonable and so were the portions. We had the mixed fried chicken, steamed tofu with egg soup dish, and ginseng chicken soup dish. All meals were very tasty on a cold day. We will be back to try other things on the menu. Downstairs was a nice unique Korean setup to simulate a Korean atmosphere - very cute and authentic.
Melbsgaleater
Authentic Korean food! We ordered the seafood pancake which incorporated generous amounts of seafood (compared to other Korean restaurants). I also got the dolsot bibimbap which had nice flavour as most others I've tried are quite plain, and also was a good ratio between rice and vegetables/beef
Kat_Eats_Mel
The food is ok/avarage. But don't come here for korean bbq, its not great or really not worth it. If you are after the other korean food/dishes then this place will do...not fantastic but just ok. That's IF you can bypass the blunt average service... been here twice - staff seemed rude and arrogant both times. It seems like they don't want to be there or just have extremely bad arrogant attitude. Will not go out of my to eat here.

As far as Korean food goes, Hodori satisfies my cravings everytime! Their sweet flavours are bang on with the right amount of kick when needed.
This is a great little restaurant in the burbs and does not hurt the pocket especially with a large group of people so you can have a good spread of dishes.

I LOVE the bibimbap and japchae here. These dishes are the reason for my return visits...and then we also order whatever else tickles our fancy.

SERVICE: 3/5
Not bad as far as Asian restaurants go. I also don't mind the service bell on each table. Very practical and effective rather than trying to make the awkward eye contact.

FOOD: 4.5/5
Tried and tested dishes that get the thumbs up:
-Bibimbap (beef)
-Japchae (standard version)
-Grill plates e.g. beef bulgogi, spicy chicken
-Seafood hot pot
-Fried chicken with sweet and spicy sauce (finger licking good). Those crushed peanuts just top it off!
The complimentary side dishes are also prepared well.

DECOR & AMBIENCE: 3.5/5
Upstairs is the main dining area with a lot of timber tones, kept pretty simple and clean which is good. Downstairs has more traditional floor table settings. Good in theory but I imagine uncomfortable for long periods of time.

KID FRIENDLY: Yes - but leave your pram in the car as main dining area is up a flight of stairs.
Wei-Chi Lee
Nothing spectacular but good decent Korean food with plenty of spice. The hot pots are quite good though and excellent value for money. The small side dishes are quite good too.
Judy
Had lunch here today and my Korean cravings were satisfied. The pancake was nice with a good amount of seafood, the dokbokki was nice and spicy and springy and the bibimbap had a good amount of rice to toppings ratio. I've been here so many times before, worth it for the price, would recommend their spicy fried chicken!

(Saturday 16/9/2016)

Had a very enjoyable dinner in Horori Korean Garden.
Ambience and settings were pretty simple and calm.
Ordered "Bondage-Ddeok: Seafood Pancake" & "Dwen-jang jigae: Soybean paste hot pot with seafood and tofu" and two bowl of rice.

Both dishes were well prepared.
The soup has a nice seafood and home feeling taste, and it was pretty stomach warming for the weather as well.
The seafood pancake was good. It was thick and has a lot of things in it. Made it worth the price. You could eat with or without the given sauce! Taste different but still good anyway.

The side dishes made us very happy. Although all of them were average and common, it was still good to eat with rice and all.

Overall, I really enjoyed spending time in the restaurant. Staffs were efficient when we pressed the button and the tea service was pretty good too!
Nibble And Wander
My family and I came here for a little feast haha Very busy restaurant at night time, we had the traditional seats where we took our shoes off and sat cross-legged downstairs because it was that busy upstairs. The food was very traditional, great flavours, however, a little on the saltier side - service was a little shocking tho, I'm not too sure what it was like upstairs but I knew it was very busy because although we had an electrical bell and we pressed it multiple times, we had no service so we had to physically walk upstairs to get service multiple times.

Le Boy and I was in the area one night looking for some place local to have dinner. It’s been a few years to say the least since I last dined at Hodori Korean Garden. I always have a thing for visiting new places. As such, it’s rare for me to visit the same place twice. I found myself pleasantly surprised by the service and generosity of side dishes available for free. Having dined in a number of other Korean restaurants where side dishes are lacking or non existent, it was refreshing to have a selection of six side dishes (or banchan) to help yourself from.
කෑම ලෑස්තියි (Food Is Ready)
A restaurant hidden away on Center road. Was here sometime back with a big crowd and had a feast. This time I ordered beef bibimbap. It was great. Love their assortment of kimchi and sauces
Amy
The kimchi hot pot really hits the spot - warming you right up on a chilly day. I haven't had much luck with the other dishes I've tried though. Don't expect great customer experience here either, otherwise you'll be disappointed. If you're dropping by, have some cash handy as they don't have eftpos.
Bobby
Great food and great taste. Nice environment and good service. Good location and decent prices. Side dishes were the highlight for me. Would go again.
Mangomango
Very nice dishes, specially the rice cake and the fried chicken and the beef soup. Really love this place! Although the size of hot plate dishes are a little bit small.

That was the first time I enjoyed Korean meals in Melbourne. Traditional dishes were all delicious, especially rice cakes and chaffy dishes.

This place is huge - is it called Korean House as well? It'd be good if there was an open sign on the door, as I feel reluctant to push it open when we can see the bottom level has nobody there.
Once at the top, the room was smokey. The natural lighting though makes the place look nice. Our group had a nice lunch with all the typical Korean favourites - but perhaps this being a lunch rather than dinner, I felt like the beef bulgogi needed more marinating time.
I may consider trying this place at night to see if it differs any more than the other Korean eateries in Clayton.
Cash only

went here twice, first time it was with my family and it was a good experience, service was fast and friendly, food was excellent, especially the jap jae.
second time i went there, the food was good but not excellent, some of the dishes was bland and the tofu soup was lacking of flavor.
the service though, was horrendous, we knew that there were not enough waiter for a packed night, and to make it worse, one of the korean waitress, gave us sign with her hand to make us move away, which was rude.
now every time my aunt asked me to eat there again, ill think twice.
As restaurant is not only about food, but service too.

4/11/17

Came here as my friend wanna have some korean food, and it was good, kimchi bimbimbap and beef bulgogi were yummy and service is still the same, lack of waiter, only one for the whole table. But at least the waitress that served us last time wasnt there.

Came here again as my partner was craving for army stew, we ordered that and bbq, as well as gejang gejang, the bbq was ordinary, army stew was good and gejang2 was not as my liking as i thought it will be soy sauce based but it was korean chilli paste, it was not appetising for me.
Overall after so many times dining here, the foods at this place are just ordinary, not the best korean, but its okay if we are craving for it as not many around our place.

Worse experience ever!
The staff were dismissive, rude and inattentive. They placed dishes on the edge of the table and we were expected to move them to the middle ourselves. When asked for bowls for the soup, they just didn't bring them. I had to walk up to the front, ask them again and wait there. When we rang the bell for service, they took ages to come to our table and would walk past without even looking at us.
We came her for my mothers birthday and did not expect the service to be so bad. I could not enjoy the food as I was fuming at the lack of service.
Definitely not coming back!

Had a fantastic dinner here with my family. Tasty, authentic Korean food at very affordable prices. The seafood bibimbap and seafood pancake were my favourite dishes of the night. The bibimbap was chock full of toppings and every mouthful was delicious and bursting with flavour. The pancake was also generously filled with seafood and was amazingly crispy while fluffy on the inside. Hands down the best seafood pancake I've had in Melbourne. I also enjoyed the kimchi bibimbap, but I preferred the seafood one. The seafood and tofu soup was not bad, but a tad salty for my liking. My least favourite dish of the night was surprisingly the pork belly. It wasn't very tender - rather tough and chewy, in fact.

Service was decent. The waiters weren't very attentive but they were easy enough to flag down when we needed something. Overall I really enjoyed my meal here. The food was sensational and definitely very good value.

This place use to be great! But recently the food has not been so good and for the price I expect a lot more. Japchae noodles where completely undercooked and I had to ask several times for our side dishes. Won't be coming back again.

For the hungry Monash University students that teem around Clayton, the quick solution to their lunch or dinner problems seem to be the McDonald's on either corners of the campus on weekends when on-campus dining is scarce. Yet there are a wealth of a reasonably affordable options to be found on Clayton's main street and town centre which is aptly named Clayton road. One of the many Korean options available is the Hodori Korean Garden which is situated just off the corner of the intersection between Centre Rd and Clayton Rd. The entrance is quite unassuming with the words "Korea House" emblazoned outside but the restaurant opens up into two floors with the main dining floor located on the top floor. Hodori is clearly a family run cash-only affair with what appears to be...

The food at Korean Garden is amazing - their fried chicken is to die for. Service is generally good and the meals are pretty quick. Prices are very reasonable. The one minus is that they're cash only.
Mimi's Food Expedition
Although the Korean food was authentic, the service was terrible, you could clearly tell that the waitress was complete and utter cannot be F*** serving, when she carries food and drinks over and spills it on you and with zero apologies.
Despite having a bell available to press for service, our table was ignored, she would walk pass us or glance at us but wouldn't come over to see what we need. She would rather stand around and chat to her colleague than to end the *ding dong* sound every 5 minutes, not to mention the restaurant was pretty empty, only two other tables of 3s.
Aside from the the horrendous service, the food was average, but it was definitely not worth $15.50 for a beef bimbimbap where I only get two sliver of beef and she refused to give us our miso soup, which was meant to be included in our rice dishes.
This use to be one of my favourite joints for Korean, where the service was nice and food was decently priced and not skimped on. I recall the days when I was actually full after their bimbimbap, I understand prices has increased on raw materials, but if they're going to jack up the prices and skimp on protein, I can totally understand why their business is going down hill. If they're going to charge me $15.50 for a sliver of beef with some rice, I may as well go Mrs Kim's Grill.

Fair dinkum mate. Service and food was average verging on the good side. Authentic Korean. Down side is cash only.
Parking available at the rear which is always a plus.

First time at this restaurant and was disappointed by the ridiculous service and attitude from the staff. Gave us the food without any side dishes or any utensils, water or serviettes, and ignored our call. The food was good, but probably not visiting here again due to the service received, not welcoming at all.

Food was alright but one of the worst service I've ever received. Grumpy waiters who say "what?" every time you ask for something then leaves without asking if you need anything else. This meant we had to keep calling and made them more frustrated.

This one waitress needs to be fired. She would drop the food on our table aggressively with a grumpy face and then leave before we could even say thank you. Just plain rude and disgusting behaviour.

I suggest to avoid or pick another korean place down the road if you get angry easily because the service will not make you happy.

Authentic, tasty Korean food. One of the best Mung bean kimchi pancakes around. Pricing is also very reasonable with generous portion sizes. We are frequent regulars here and would recommend this place to all

A bit of a cold restaurant for winter. Food was really delicious but a bit pricey for the amount of meat given when we ordered the Koran BBQ menu. Otherwise really nice place

Seafood bibimbap has good sauce & some yummy bits of seafood, but wish they give some prawns rather than shrimps for the price. Seafood udon is rather bland, with only a single prawn. Side dishes are just ordinary.

Atmosphere... Hmmm... Certainly needs a revamp! Not easy to find either. The food seemed to be quite small portions compared to other korean. And the food lacked flavour... The sauces and sides were very bland. I think I will keep driving past next time.

Disgusting service and attitude. Have never known that such level is call service. The waitress actually told us to set the table so she could put the dishes down. She also asked a friend to move their chair so she could put the dishes down when she could serve us from the side instead of between two people! Utterly disgusted!!! Doesn't matter how the food taste, the service is enough to enough to make you throw up.

Food not so bad, but service could improve. Ordered Bulgogi and Kimchi Jigae, and jijimi. Taste ok, I guess, but the side dishes are not particularly special. Sprouts tasted quite bland, lacking sesame oil. Anyway, what pissed me off is that the waiter forgot my order, so have been waiting for the whole time, and eventually it didn't come. At least, we were not charged for it.. Ambiance was quite good downstairs.

What a Menu!. Biiiiiig place with separate sections for BBQ and ala carte dining. the variety on the menu is truly excellent, more so than any Korean place I've been to. All the main classic Korean dishes are well done. The staff are nice but seem to have trouble covering the large and sectioned restaurant area.

...we decided to go to our favorite Korean restaurant, its a small place but the food is fresh and filling. When we arrived it had a few people, by the time we started eating it was quiet, With Korean food you generally get all you can eat Kimchi, honey potatoes, brocoli and other random bits and pieces. The drinks are so small you need at least 2 ;). I had my corona, the ladies had pear drink with pear pieces in it. Spicy rice cakes, its a sweet yet spicy dish with sweet potato noodles in it. Beef So Bulgogi which is sizzling plate with beef and veggies marinated in soy sauce. Not really spicy but sweet and full of flavour. Beef Dolsot Bibimbap, its beef served in a hot stone pot. we leave it so the rice gets crispy at the bottom of the pot. You mix a bowl of chilli into it to add some spice. Its an amazing dish. So much food we have some left for lunch except we are going to brunch with friends. I would highl
DAMMIT JANET I LOVE FOOD
Typical Korean fare at a place that has fast service, decent servings and is good value for money. The main dining area is upstairs, although they do have some traditional floor seating tables downstairs. Now each table upstairs has a service bell which you press whenever you require a waiter’s attention. However this only works when the waiters are not busy so you may need to press it at regular intervals to remind them that you still waiting to be served. Note that this is a cash only place.

You can never really go wrong with having Korean food, at least not in my books. I just love Korean food. Is it the Korean BBQ? yes but not entirely. Is it the kimchi that sends me swooning over Korean cuisine? Not really (Though I have tasted really good kimchi once). What about the spiciness? Can’t entirely say I’m a fan, yet. To be honest I just love the the fact that Korean food encompasses such a wide array of vegetables to compliment each dish with even more vegetable side dishes to boot. To me, a dish that has a lot well cooked and seasoned vegetables is a dish made in heaven. And that’s why, my friend you can’t go wrong with Korean food. Today I wanted to try eating at a different Korean restaurant in Clayton and suggested we go to Hodori Korean Garden. The night didn’t start off that smoothly when I found myself lost and unsure where the restaurant was. I was at the right address but because I thought the place was called Hodori Garden, I was unable to make the connection with

Poor service. Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, very poor customer service. After making a reservation for two and arriving on time to actually have no table available. Was offered to sit downstairs and eat in the waiting area, then waited 30 minutes to order food and still not have any staff attend to take our order after continuously pressing the service bell well over 20 times. Thanks but no thank you, never again!

Been to this restaurant few times in the past. Food was good but the last time really put me off. The service was horrible till I left the place without even ordering. Waited 10 minutes and couldn't even place an order. The numbering system doesn't work at all. The waiter
and waitress ignored us for the whole 10 minutes. They just look at the ground and not the customers.

Decent place. Food was fulfilling, just wish the bbq meat was marinated though

Best Korean Restaurant in Clayton!. Been here heaps of times with family & friends.
The kimchi is always spot on. Fast service and have never had a problem with the meat or other dishes.
Wish they had a larger drink choice though... Becomes smaller each time I go.

Nice food but slightly overpriced for the serving sizes. Service is poor but would still come back as enjoyed the food and overall experience.

Decent food Decent price. I came here for the bbq, and it was pretty decent. The soups now they were AMAZING>
The proportions were generous the prices decent. The service was a bit rushed; but I don't like hovering waiters so no problem. If youre for simple hearty fare this is the place.

The beef is so dry that it hurts my teeth. Overal I think the food is overprice. Not gonna coming back here

Don't really recommend this place as a Korean person.
We had a table bbq for 2, and the meat was poorly cut and frozen. they don't have the complementary salad plate that made me quite upset.

This place feels like a Korean diner you can see in the middle of highway or something back home :/

This Korean restaurant is awesome!! The only place we go for Korean. I wish they would open a place closer to Pakenham!! The kim chi and complimentary sides are to die for. My favorite dish is the spicy marinated beef. Cannot go there without ordering this dish!!

Frequent visit. Food is good, service is good, atmosphere is good, price is good too.
Service can be a bit lacking when it's busy, they don't have that many staff.
My go to place when I don't know what to grub on with friends.

Apart of the Korean top ten in Victoria. Wonderful - one of the top ten Korean Restaurants in Victoria.
The food quality easily competes with some of the best found in the CBD.

I highly recommend the beef bulgogi, the fish ricecakes and the small soup at the top of the soup list (i think its a kimchi pork belly soup).

Complimentary dishes are served with your first meal, wonderful atmosphere and beautiful view at night overlooking the street. Downstairs they have authentic korean experience dinners where you kneel with the small tables downstairs you can book this, i think 5 to 10 people.

We got there at 6:30pm and got a table luckily, this restaurant fills FAST. I would suggest making a booking from 8:00pm+, so pick your times carefully.
Great! and the staff have a smile on their face naturally. Family owned, it seems.

This probably one of few Korean restaurants in Clayton I love going. Great service, good food, and reasonable price. Love their Kimchi Jigae, seafood pancake, and kimchi Dolsot. Go try them and tell me what you think about those dishes.

Horrible Service. First of all, to be fair, the food was actually quite decent. Portions were decent and price was relatively alright.

Now, for the negatives. The service was horrible, we made reservations under a certain name and the lady said that no such person made a reservation. Later on, only for me to find out that we did and they just overlooked it by accident. Then, I see a waiter knock down a tray of dishes, by accident of course, but when the other waiters asked him what had happened, he just blamed it on someone else. Disgusting behaviour. Then we were waiting to make our order but the lady served the tables that had came after us, always saying she'd be taking our order soon but 20 minutes later, she never came. Instead we had to get another waiter to take our order. Next, my friend ordered about 6 items and when some friends came we left for a while because another friend couldn't find the place. When we came back, we realised that about 10 items were present and we obviously did not order so many. But our friends didn't know and had already eaten them. So it was obviously the waiter's fault but they demanded we pay for it because we had already touched them, however no compromise was offered. We decided to let the matter go because we were all tired but I just found it unreasonable that the waiter's mistakes lead to us paying double the price of what we had expected it to be.

Food is nice, but service, ugh!

Yum! Yum! Yum!!!. It was our first time at Hodori and certainly wouldn't be the last because it had become one of my favourite restaurants. Food were great and delicious. Excellent customer service from the good looking waiter there who kindly recommended the sweet potato noodles and galbi when we were looking for non-spicy food. They were truly finger licking good. The additional side dishes came very late though, we asked the waitress for three times and she kept forgetting. The food are reasonably priced. My friends and I had a great time!! Definitely we will be back again and again. Highly recommended!!!

Tasty Kimchi and Marinade. Hodori makes my favorite kimchi stew - rich flavour with flavoursome aged kimchi cooked with pork belly. I always get the kimchi stew and pork belly on hot plate. We also enjoy the fried chicken, fried tofu, rice cakes and bossam there. There is also a lady waitress there who is always very polite!

Even though, Korean food is not my favorite cuisine, Hodori however is slowly becoming one of my favorite restaurants that I'd like to eat with my family. Lovely service, great hot food such as kimchi jigae keeps me going back there. And the food there is reasonably priced too. Been earring there 5 times now and the quality has been so consistent. Recommend this restaurant for all Korean food lovers!
