Review Clayton Korean Bbq Restaurant - Clayton

Ray Green
Aesthetically this restaurant is plain and raw. But this doesn't matter here as it adds to the overall ambience. The food and service are absolutely wonderful. All food has great taste and is very authentic. I would have no hesitation in eating here again.

Myself and my fiance went here to try it out. What a great experience. We both liked it alot. A good selection of meats as well as cuts. The meat could have been marinated a bit longer but that's a small thing. The all you can eat is great and the price is good too. As well as unlimited rice, soup, condiments and bun cha (great selection by the way), makes for a great experience. Will definitely be going back. The staff was very nice also. Great job. Keep up the great work. BTW both myself and my fiance are chefs by trade, and a good review from a chef is always better than someone who is just a lame foodie who think they know what they are looking for or talking about.

Good range of meats and side dishes. The staff will frequently change your nonstick cooking paper for you too so it's always fresh. This is my go to all you can eat kbbq.

The worse experience ever. Bad bad bad customer service Pls have a second thought if u thinking of coming here to this place and eat. There are a lot of Good Korean barbecue buffet out there and this is one of my biggest mistake when I chose to come here and get an unwelcoming by staffs, tried to kick us out for our FIRST time coming, cause we showed up only half an hour late than the time we booked. The staffs attitude is very bad + the atmosphere is unpleasant. Please don't follow my mistake come here and get treated badly by this people. This is my experience and my opinion you may have a Different one, Who Knows.

Small place, almost always full Great korean bbq place Awesome service! I had fun with my mates here Got all u can eat bbq too!

Perfect spread of food, you can get up and get more food any time you want. Cook your own food and eat at your own pace! Love this restaurant

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. The worse restaurant I've ever came across in the world. The staff are rude, place were dirty, giving you the feeling of back alley hawkers with rats running around. Meat are not fresh and soaked with baking powder to soften them and cover the taste of old meat. I went in there for 15mins to catch up with a group of friends who been eating for 40mins and about to leave. The staff insist me to pay for their full buffet price, even thought I said I'm not eating and just catching up with a friend who I haven't seen for 5yrs. The restaurant was 3/4 empty at the time and I guess they were desprate for money. No sign anywhere stated you must pay for food as soon as you put a bum on sit.

Good selection of meats. Good service. Pork jowl is so good! Wished they had seaweed by itself. Saw some customers put raw meat on same plate as their salad - um contamination! And then the same people will probably complain about food poisoning -_-

Korchi always coming through 🔥🔥
My favourite dish from them would be the spicy teokbokki ramen. Staff are so hospitable. You can ask to have it less spicy or more spicy (however you want). The kpop music in the background really gives the restaurant the ultimate korean restaurant vibes.

However, for those who wanna try Korchi just a heads up the beef and pork bulgogis are very dry. It does come in large portions and is worth the price. But the meat in the bulgogis are very dry.
Donna
Went as a group. Serving size is quite large and well worth the price. The black bean noodles were a bit overcooked and too sweet for my taste but everyone else enjoyed them. Very authentic. Sweet and sour pork was crispy - a must try from this place!

Been here a couple of times for dinner. The food comes out quick and the serving of jajangmyeon is always plenty. The girls working there are always friendly.

Food was pretty good but nothing tooo special- safe spot for Korean food I think- loved the noodle dishes, service was good.

Korchi is finally back! We went yesterday and apparently original owners have taken over. It's not The Dream anymore.

Hopefully it'll stay that way for a while. It's great to see because we've always gone there from time to time over the years.
Gordon Yeong
It has been through many hands over the past 10 yrs. This recent change not only has the name changed but the offerings and taste have actually gone down. I've been a patron since they first opened over 10 yrs ago and while all the other change of owners have still maintained the level of great korean food, I cant say that for this iteration.
Missfoodieguide
Had a delicious satisfying lunch here. Portion is huge so it is good for sharing when you order. Must order is their Jjampong, perfect for this chilly weather.

Little hidden gem in Clayton!

Been living in Clayton and heard about the place for quite awhile, but never had the real urge to try and go to this place since there are lots of good korean places in the city and never thought we'd have a good one in Clayton too.

Food was a 5/5.
Extremely generous portion, and just perfect taste. Super yum.
The sweet sour pork had apple in it, which is weird, but blended well.
Jjajjangmyeon was a total winner 😍 love it so much (though oily, but doesn't really matter since it taste so gewd)

Will definitely come back.
The World’s My Oyster
NOTE: The signage on restaurant outside says “The dream” but the menu inside said “Korchi”. Very confusing for us to find it the first time especially since next door is also another Korean restaurant and we thought we were at the wrong restaurant!

Cheap and tasty Korean food! The seafood noodles was the biggest bowl of noodle soup I have ever seen and had an assortment of frozen seafood in a spicy broth. This isn’t the best Korean food we’ve had but will definitely satisfy your craving if you’re on a budget. The beef bulgogi was a bit chewy and a little lacking on the meat portion but for

Good value for specially their lunch menus. Reasonable pricing for generous portions - a student’s dream. Always busy. Ample parking up back and you can enter from the back door. Love their lunch menus, jajangmyeon and fried chicken.
Key
It would be 3.5 if it had the 0.5. The menu is based on decent Korean type restaurant menu, taste is great, a little bit sweet for all dishes, but still good. Btw, food marked spicy is really spicy, taste like tobacco sauce. Kimchi hotpot is the best in a cold winter.
Angela Wu
Don’t order too much.. I end up taking away more than half of the food that I ordered. Tangsuyuk & jajungmyeong. They suit each other perfectly hahaha
Yoorhim Kim
I had the best Soft Tofu Soup today omg! The best for any weather ! I wasn’t expecting but because I’m wasn’t a big fan of this soul but now! I LOVEEE IT ! I’m definitely coming back hehe
Vivian
The portions here are so large ! We love the black bean noodle , Kim chi stew , the seafood noodles and also the Kim chi pancake
It is a bit dirty here but the food is good and service efficient
Xuyo
Went here today and I am very impressed. I went during lunch and ordered the spicy pork bulgogi which included rice and miso soup and also the jjambbong (spicy seafood soup noodle) and they were both amazing. The portion sizes are very huge and price is very cheap in comparison to most korean restaurants. Wait wasn’t too long and side dishes were nice. Atmosphere is more modern than kang na roo or hodori But is just normal. Staff were also nice. Total price for the two meals came to 24$. Would highly recommend 👍👍

3.5/5
This restaurant was closed for a while because of construction. And it opened again a while ago. But The taste has changed.
New chef have come. It was not bad, but personally it tasted better before. Mapadubu was disappointed.
Jason
Has the owner changed? Used to be good but food took at least 45 minutes to come out. Tangsuyook tastes like ketchup now. Noodles were so overcooked it just broke when i try to grab it with my chopsticks.
Kieu Luong
I’ve eaten here countless times, but I’m always coming back for the black bean noodles, spicy rice cakes and seafood stew. The menu is reasonably priced with a large variety, which includes larger plates for bigger groups. Perfect portions and the food is delicious (side dishes are also great and they refill them without complaints). Staff are also very friendly.
I’m also a huge fan of the city one for lunch.

My friend took us to her fav korean restaurant, and it was delicious! She introduced us to topoki, which was this rice cake noodle type dish that was delicious! I lve the texture, its soft and slightly cheey, and i love the sauce it comes in! I also had some bibimbap, which is one of my fav dishes. And this one really hit the spot too! I like this place. Its a small and simple place, but the food is delicious and good value!
Elena
The food is Ok. But one waitress’s service is so rude. I can’t find other words to say! Me and my friend just asked her to take away the empty plate, then I heard she said a Korean word “a xi ba”. I don’t speak Korean but I know the meaning. This is the most dirty rude word in Korean. I felt angry, but that waitress didn’t say anything, like nothing happened! Excuse me? I can’t believe my eyes! I think the owner should teach your employees to be polite or no one would come! Won’t come here again!
Hangry Jules
The serving size at this restaurant is MASSIVE. I repeat, THE SERVING SIZE IS HUGE (especially the noodles). I got told to control myself when ordering food from my partner because we ordered: medium sweet and sour pork, one entree and two noodles for two people 😢 In the end we takeaway-ed pretty much the whole sweet and sour pork HAHA. Oh wellll 😂

I just love this Korean version of Chinese food🙄 All in all, nothing wrong with the food and place, just be careful not to order too much!
Linda Tran
A small korean joint that serves up a fusion of chinese korean cuisines that satisfied hungry get goers looking for a quick meal. On this particular rainy day in Melbourne, I was craving a spicy bowl of noodle soup. We ordered the Jap chae, spicy Jjamppong and beef bulgogi. The jap chae was oily and greasy whilst the spicy jjamppong was way to spicy to enjoy. Overall a decent feed but doesnt hit the spot.
Nam Pham
Great place to satisfy a craving, although the jap chae I had was quite oily. Portion sizes are quite sufficient and complimentary rice comes with some dishes. Overall nice environment and friendly staff, food is adequate for a craving but if your after a punch its a tad lackluster.

Went in just before 3pm but wasn't given a lunch menu.
They didn't have the non spicy seafood soup that I wanted, so I cancelled my spring rolls and bongbong.
Ordered the spicy soup instead.
Didn't get my side dishes until the soup came out, along with spring rolls?? I clearly cancelled that order and reiterated it to the waitress several times.
She was visibly pissed when I told her, yet again, I didn't want them.
Soup came out and it looked like vomit.
Rice was stale and very hard. I had trouble digging the metal spoon into the bowl to get rice out.
Only tried the bean curd side dish, it was stale too.
Nasty nasty nasty!!!
Getting a stomach ache as I write this.
Kylie
Excellent Korean restaurant. The food is great, the service is great, and the atmosphere is great. The highlight would be the jjajangmyeon, which is a popular Chinese dish in Korea, but surprisingly not served in my Korean restaurant. It's only $11 for a huge portion. The donkatsu portion is a little small, but very cripsy and delicious. Would definitely recommend coming with big groups of people.

I used to love love love their seafood tofu soup. I stopped going since last year because my friend told me they changed the owner and the food is not as good as before. Stopped by today and I thought I might give a try. The side dishes were really good. Ordered my favourite seafood tofu soup and tasted completely different and way worse. Will not go back again.
Norm Sokolic
Service was good however the food tasted off. Later in the night we felt sick after eating the beef dish. I ordered one of the special chicken dishes. Chose the sweet soy marinated chicken with potato noodles. It looked nothing like the picture and description. The dish was swimming in sauce and that may have contributed to my sick stomach

Exploring Clayton for a feed, we landed on Korchi for some korean goodness. Located close to Clayton station, there isn’t a lot of parking around so you might have to park a few streets down and walk there. On a Friday lunch, it was quite busy but we got a seat for 5 within 5 minutes (crowds of people were starting to leave already). We got a seat, menus to check out and put our order through.

Went here to have some Korean curry, was expecting what was on the menu but it came out to be something totally different. I just got catfished so hard by food 😩
The Food Traveller
My all time favourite korean-chinese restaurant x love their black noodles and spicy seafood noodles! Their fried pork and chicken is also worth trying x
Ling Yap
Love the food here...it has mixture of Chinese-korean dishes. Reminds me of Incheon Chinatown. Big portion and tasty too. The Jjam bong (spicy seafood noodles) are great! I hv yet to try the Jja jang myeon.
Im ChangBin
Their sercice got very bad recently. Worst service I ever received in Korean restaurants.
Do not order Large Take away meals, they cheat you the portion.
I will never go there again anymore after having been their customers for many years.
Willtravelforfood17
Delicious, homey Korean food in this family run business. I love their side dishes and the service is great. Get their friend chicken in sweet and sour sauce!
Taeyeon's Hamster
My friend was craving jjajangmyeon so we decided to head down to Clayton for a quick lunch. Korchi is more a korean and chinese fusion restaurant than authentic.

We ordered 2 jjajangmyeon, a chicken tang su yuk and tteobokki. The typical fast food takeaway dishes you see on korean drama.

The jjajangmyeon was difficult to eat as it was rather thick and the noodle kept slipping down the chopsticks. It is ideal to have jjajangmyeon with some yellow pickled radish as it helps with the digestion, but Korchi didn't have any which was quite disappointing.

The tang su yuk was delicious. It was fried very nicely, the sauce was quite a combination and it was a big portion.
However, the kimchi wasn't that fresh, so unlike most times, we didn't finish the side dish.
Khpn
Came here for dinner the other night ordered a noodles, fried chicken, seafood hotpot and ķimchi fried rice. The noodles was really good and their fried chicken isnt too bad. The seafood hotpot was a standout. Good servicr

One of many Korean restaurants in Clayton, very warm greeting as you walk through the door, seems Authentic as there is quite a few Koreans while we were there. Not spicy enough for my liking. Very generous serve with their takeaways.
Baz Kaybee
Really great Korean food here, some of the best. Made better by the fact that they were playing Korean hiphop too! I love Bewhy and was a big fan of him on SMTM but honestly Cjamm was robbed. Everyone just jumps on trends and its honestly bullshit. What happened to originality and musical integrity? 신기루 is a banger and better than anything Bewhy has ever done. All he does is preach abou Jesus! Anyway, great food and my favourite spot in Clayton to get Korean food.
Hungry Polar
This is the place where hubs always gets his Jajang noodle craving fix! He can live on just Jajang myun.
I on the other hand love the Tang Su yuk- deep fried pork in sweet and sour sauce or the chicken version (Kam pung Gi?) if that's how you say it! It's made to order so they are really done well and not soggy.
We occasionally come here for the cold noodles in summer which is a must or hubs loves the soya bean version of the cold noodles.
FoodieCCC
Great portions with low price. There are kinds of signature traditional Korean Chinese cuisine, which are hard to see in other restaurants, such as 간짜장.
HP
Good range of food on the menu; I've had the bibimbap, jjajangmyeon, jjambbong, kimchi jjigae, boiled dumplings (25pc) and medium yangnyum fried chicken; every single dish so far has been pleasantly delicious and at generous portions. One of the better Korean-Chinese fusion restaurants in Clayton.
Ritu Makhija
The selection of fusion Chinese/Korean food is excellent. I have never been disappointed by the food here. It's reasonably priced and great portions! The only downside is the service. I've been going here for 3 years, but it seems the service is always uninspiring.
Tony
Korchi Clayton is a decent choice for dinner, especially given the lack of very many good restaurants in the suburb. The spicy chicken and the giant plates of noodles are a good choice to order, and they are relatively cheap.
Pingu
We usually order the black bean noodles or spicy noodles (Champong). The other dishes such as spicy chicken is not bad, a bit greasy but the flavors are OK. If you are after cheap Korean food, you can consider this place. During peak time, service can be a bit slow. The waiter and waitresses can't speak fluent English so you have to be patient.
Mr S
Korchi is simple, delcious, quick and value for your money. It's a great place for lunch or dinner. Mostly busy on the Friday nights and weekends. It's a small establishment but provides reasonable priced meals that are generous and fulfilling.

We ordered the bulgogi, the fried chicken, the kimchi fried rice and the black bean noodles. I have been here three times and all three I have been delightfully happy and full.

The bulgogi is standard like most korean restaraunts but never the less it is tasty.

The kimchi fried rice is generously served with a lovely fried egg and coleslaw on the side. The rice is spicy but scrumptious. The coleslaw is the refreshing factor in this meal to cut through the spice of the rice and kimchi, and the egg oozes as you crunch into it.

The fried chicken is a great addition as it has many pieces to offer and is similar to gami but different in texture and flavour. Spicy to some but for me it was all about the juicy meat. It is a must order!

Finally the black bean noodles are mouth wateringly long, gooey but gives you a smack of flavour. However it is also a large portion and by the end you feel fully satisfied. Ask for a pair of scissors so you may cut the noodles, because they are way too long.

Korchi is a lovely place to catch up with friends or for a casual dining experience. This place is value for your money and the food is great. I would definitely recommend stopping by. Check it out!
Ji-sun Um
the food was and is always great. i always come here for the jajangmyun.
but there has been quite the rumour amongst many Koreans that this Korchi place has quite distasteful and rude service.
now when i came here a few years ago, the people were friendly and they smiled at you. now?
woah.
i went with my friends and boy we were shocked.
staff were incredibly rude, brash and impatient. i was hoping that the rumours were just exaggerated tales but i was proven dead wrong..
will still come back for the food as it is quite good, but won't be expecting any form of respectable service next time.

Delicious miso soup and kimchi. Generous serves of meals. Nice and quick at lunchtime. Would definitely go back if I was around this area more often.
Naomi Li
Absolutely awful.
We ordered a seafood hotpot soup and a ramen with rice cake dish. Just the ramen dish itself was enough for me to give a negative review. Looked nothing like the picture on menu, ramen was still hard, rice cake half cooked. The sauce tasted like the ones in Korean 2min noodles. Disaster disaster😡😡😡
Complained to the workers and their attitude was horrible too. Ended up paying for everything and left quickly 😰

I still remember being taken here to try Korean food for the very first time back in 2011! The portions here are quite filling and is easy to share around the table in a group. Would recommend to anyone in the area looking for decently priced and delicious Korean food :)
Weiyi Chen
One of the best Korean restaurant in Clayton. Although quite pricey, the portion is big enough to fill your stomach. A must try if you are around the area

Korchi is a regular lunch option for us in Clayton. The menu is Korean, and there generally very meat heavy. The meat lovers think it's awesome because they are very generous with the meat! One of the few vegetarian options is a Vege Bibimbap which is quite tasty. It's not my favourite option in Clayton, but it's one we've added to the lunchtime list.
Kochishit
Worst Korean food ever. They were very slow service and served bunt food. I saw other table complained about bunt food but they served same food again. Don't go there
Yuan
WORST service ever. We have been waiting for more than 20min after we ordered, and nothing to serve. We ask why other people who came after us already have their lunch. They said they forgot our order WITHOUT apologize.
Nan Meng
Frank. On a sunday afternoon around 2.00 obviously not rush time. we ordered a kimchi hotpot and beef bulgogi waited like 30 mins and ask them where s our food and they said they cant find the order and yet havnt made. so dispointing wont be back i think.

This is 1 dish that we always order to share around the table. I’m always up for Korean Fried Chicken but this version at Korchi’s wins it hands down for me. Someone mentioned that this dish reminds him of Sweet & Sour Pork and I guess you can say that, just that it’s chicken and spicy!

Clayton has its fair share of Korean restaurants just like Carnegie and the Melbourne CBD. But if you’re looking for a quick Korean fix and just happen to live in Springvale like I do, then Clayton is usually your one stop shop. Located among a handful of other Korean restaurants nearby just around the corner block diagonally opposite to Clayton station, Korchi does well for itself by offering its customers both Chinese and Korean foods. Bibimbap (vegetarian) mixed vegetables with an egg and short grain rice $14.00 I ordered the vegetarian version, so there was no beef which I think was replaced by an egg. I don’t know whether you get an egg with the original bibimbap. The bibimbap looked pretty ordinary. The spinach and bean sprouts were nice, but I was a bit disappointed by the lack of creativity with the lettuce and carrot. Although the bibimbap did satisfy my vegetable cravings (the least it should do), it did not tingle to my bibimbap senses compared to Mandoo’s (awesome vegetari

Nice choice for those new to Korean cuisine.. This was a nice place for my friend and me, as we are both new to Korean cuisine. Their menu was very helpful: plenty of pictures, good translations and clearly-marked vegetarian options.

I had a curry ($13) and she had a spicy noodle dish with fish cakes. Our meals were served with traditional Korean side dishes, or banchan (kimchi spicy cabbage, kongnamul bean sprouts, etc.).

Not the best food or the quickest service, but all in all, a good experience. I'm glad we tried it, and I'd be willing to come here again.

Worse than worst. My dish tasted like syrup... I ordered noodle tokbokki, nothing much in it. My friend had hot pot bibimbub...no flavor at all. The price was so expensive compared with quality.
Chris N' Stella
Excellent!. Wow, what a find! just happened to be in the area, wanting to have something a bit spicy for lunch, and thought we'd give this small, hidden, korean restaurant a try. everything that we ordered exceeds our expectations, extremely large portions (me n my wife ordered 3 dishes, and in the end, had to take-away all 3), and really good value for money. will definitely come back again, and will definitely recommend this place to friends and family

If you like Korean cuisine and still haven't been to Korchi venture out to Clayton and try the amazing food. The Jjajangmyeon is amazing and the tangsuyuk is perfect although at times the batter is a little too crispy (almost hard).
Shaun Schembri
Terrible service. Bad atmosphere. Waitress was crude and obnoxious.
I had in fact already ordered my dishes and was in the company of two friends and my mother. The service was that bad that my mother and friends asked if we could get up and leave and as such we did. Would not recommend this place to anyone and unless your Korean you won't get good service.
Dream Maker
Service was nice, Food wa.... Service was nice,
Food was nice,
Price wasn't.
It's abt $5 more for a dish compared to other Korean eatery in the area.
I rate like as everything else was ok except price so I won't be returning...sorry guys
Jay Z
I would say this is the best Korean resterant in Clayton. Good food, big potion and good price pretty much sums it up.
Omocha
Probably the worst Korean food I've had so far. The soondubu tasted like salt water as if they'd realized they hadn't put enough flavoring in so just added more salt. Husband ordered a noodle dish which he said had zero taste and just felt like he was eating slop. Very expensive for the quality of food that they're serving! Never again!!
Maxie
Best Jajangmyeon (black bean paste noodles)!. Even after moving from Clayton to Caulfield (where there are many well known korean restaurants, kimchi grandma par example), Korchi's Jajangmyeon still holds its little throne on my munchies list. To the extent I'd be more than willing to travel there for dinner and take away some noodles back to fridge.
The service could get slow when it's busy but you can tell that the staff are doing their best to make it all work.

I'd usually head around the corner to the korean grocer after grub in korchi. But the shopping bags wouldnt be a problem, because there's a bus stop literally right outside Korchi, location - check.

I know it's a korean culture for the staff to all eat together, but something about it makes the place feels like a cozy family-run restaurant. The vibe is pretty good, tho be warned if your companions are sitting facing the kitchen. They'd most likely would be staring at the wide screen plasma tv instead of listening to you talk.
Nada
Good value authentic Korean. Coneniently located near MMC.
Staff are friendly, and service is quick. Some of the lunch specials are fairly cheap.
Recommended .
Jane
Best Korean noodles! This i.... Best Korean noodles!
This is by far my fav Korean restaurant for 'jambong' not for those who can't take chilli tho, but food is at a very reasonable price.
Laura Lam
Pleasant experience. My first experience there was quite alright. Their service needs improve because of language barrier. The price depends on what you order, but I feel that its quite reasonable. My friends and I ordered 4 dishes and only cost $50 and it was quite filling. I highly recommend their chilli Korean black bean paste noodles.
Ramieleatsshootsandleaves
Lacks Impression. Food was rather average, not much to choose from. And a bit much in price.
Kty
Okay.... Well, taste okay, staff are okay. Not cheap at all.
