Review Half Moon Cafe - Coburg

Siddharth Khurana
i came here with my friends and we had the Falafel. it was so good!! the falafel was perfect, and the other ingredients were yum and all went so well together! We got to speak to the owners for a little bit and they are so lovely! Loved my eating experience here, cant wait to come again :)

Extremely fresh and delicious falafels - even when it's really busy, they make the falafels to order. Very well-priced and generous servings. Highly recommend!

Its been a long time waiting to give this review half moon has the Best falafel in Melbourne! I have been eating here for 6 years and never had a dud wrap, the family are very friendly and welcoming and i have never waited long considering the falafel is freshly made. I get the colibaba with halloumi and hot sauce, Amazing flavor combo! To think I didn’t even like falafel before i was introduced to half moon.

Consistently excellent falafel. One of the best I've ever tried out of a whole lot. Great prices too
Aser Altalib
They have the best falafel in Melbourne. The food was so delicious (try Colibaba, you won’t be disappointed). Everything was so clean and fresh. Great customer service and the staffs are very friendly. Highly recommended 👌🏻
Quincy Malesovas
Hands down the best falafel in Melbourne. Always perfect flavour and consistency - I recommend getting it in a wrap with haloumi. Staff are also always nice and service is quick.

Best Falafel in Melbourne! The Falafel is cooked fresh, the taste is unbelievable and the serving is generous. To top it off the customer service is friendly and to the point. I can't wait to come back again.

My absolute favourite felafel in all of Melbourne, I get cravings for it if it has been too long. The freshest ingredients, best flavour and superior service. I love the half moon kebab and the falafel plate, but also strongly recommend the ful medames in the cooler months for a nourishing and tasty dish.

Love it! Food is fresh, authentic and super yum. Not the usual falafel place. They do Egyptian falafel, which is with broad beans rather than chickpeas, so it’s not as dry. They also use lots of interesting side dips and pickles, which you’d rarely find elsewhere. The outdoor seating area is very pleasant in a warm day - it’s in a pedestrian-only mall, isolated from traffic. In winter, I imagine the best option would be take-away as they indoor area is quite small with a couple of seats. They lady (owner??) who took our order at the counter was extremely helpful and explained different options to us patiently, waiting for us to decide.

Best falafel in Melbourne!
Jodie
I did not like falafel before, but this converted me. Extremely delicious and satisfying especially when eaten fresh. We used to drive 1 hour just to get here! Very friendly service!

Our go to falafel place. Actually the only falafel place we go to. Tried their traditional, half moon and colibaba wraps and would say the half moon with chilli is my favourite. Occasionally the falafel can be a bit dry and hard but most often then not its a hit. Service is standard. Usually busy. Limited seating inside, few tables outside. Would recommend.
Nadia
Cheap and cheerful Egyptian-style falafel and shawarma spot - pretty low key in terms of ambience but the delicious food and friendly service more than makes up for it. The falafels are perfectly done: crisp on the outside, bright green and soft on the inside and very tasty. For $17 you get a plate of four falafels, generous scoops of hummus, tzaziki and smoky baba ganoush, pickles (several kinds), tabbouli, chickpea salad and pita. Enough for two people! Just straight up good food. Recommended.

The best falafels I’ve ever had🥰 they’re to die for. They’re good in the wraps too, but are best eaten on their own imo as the other ingredients overpower the falafel. All their dishes are good value and have yet to be disappointed by anything. This is a no-frills experience but you’re guaranteed amazing food!

I googled best falafel in Melbourne and half moon cafe came up so I had to give it a go. Wasn’t disappointed! By far the best I have tasted, and the service couldn’t have been better too. Fantastic!
Nicole P
Couldn’t fault it. I got a half moon lamb and all the ingredients were tasty and fresh. The hummus is especially good. Service friendly and for such a busy little shop they know exactly who ordered what. My only regret is not ordering falafel - I’m usually wary as I hate dry falafel but the reviews here have me thoroughly convinced. Next time.

ETA: had falafel the other day. Amazing.

Half Moon Café is situated in the Coburg central mall area which is bustling especially on the weekends giving a very upbeat atmosphere. The falafel was particularly delicious, bread went well with the plate and coffee was well made. A standout was their baklava which was very fragrant, sweet and tasty.
Quince And Cheese
It's no wonder everyone raves about Half Moon. That serve some of the freshest, healthiest and most affordable falafels in Melbourne. The best part is the wide range of condiment combos. All are good but my favourites are the chickpea and hummus, haloumi or eggplant and cauliflower options. The haloumi slices are large and moderately fried and generously portioned. The housemade pickles are a must-have addition to any wrap, as is the nutty tahini. If you're craving something sweet after the meal, a piece of rich, vegan baklava will do you right.

Fresh produce
Flavoursome food
Very generous serves
Never let you down
Lovely staff
Family own business
It’s always been very consistent. Love this place!

I went there for lunch with my mum and my Niece and really loved it very nice and tasty and very fresh will. definitely be going back keep up the good work
Good Eats
Traditional falafel and tasty wraps. Good pricing and they don't mess around. Also a sick first date spot, close enough to the lake to jump in the car and go eat this wicked wrap and watch the ducks.
Mark Parry
Sure these guys make the best falafels in Melbourne but have you tried their Cairo kebab? OMG! Real lamb, falafel, pickles and tahini. You haven’t lived until you eaten one of these bad boys!
Madhanpr
Excellent food. Tried the falafel colibaba. The falafel tasted great. The cauliflower, eggplant and ingredients were fresh. Finished it with chai. Great meal. Cost wise very good as well.

Great food great service

Good value

Friendly service

Lamb was juicy and generous
Sauce home made and fresh
Falafel was crispy on outside and tasty

This place is known for its falafel which are fantastic! I am a meat lover but I could eat there half-moon falafel all day, everyday. And the service is so polite and friendly. I hope that one day they open a full restaurant.

I admit that I have never been a big fan of the falafel. Half moon is the best one I have tasted in Melbourne. Each ball was fried to absolute perfection. Loving it.

fave cafe in Melbourne.....and im from south side!!! ive been to Egypt and this food is my favourite forever!!!! I crave it every single day, the falafel and pickled veg on a platter with bread and dips..........! so good like heaven!

Highlight of Coburg! Its a very popular place and rightly so. The falafel are delicious. Being Egyptian, they're different from anything else in the area. But they are crisp crunchy nuggets of goodness. Served with the requisite pickles they're worth getting just as a side.

The Colibaba falafel wrap came recommended and it was delicious.
The ful medames was different from what I expected (more chunks of tomato but overall runnier than I've had elsewhere) but seems to be fairly standard in Egypt. It was still tasty, which is the main thing!

Tried another falafel store...hidden between some shops I decided to try out the Half Moon Cafe. Small shop with a few seats inside and there are seats outside. Ordered take away falafel meal. In a cardboard box, you get 4 falafel balls and an assortment of salads, dips, pickles, grilled eggplants and cauliflower. Chickpeas and also tomato, cucumber and lettuce. Came with quartered pita bread. Cost of $16. Looking at the falafel balls, they looked really cooked and was worried they would be dried inside. I was wrong, the balls were crunchy on the outside and perfect texture on the inside without being dry or mushy. The salad servings with all the pickles and dips were a generous serving and very fresh...enough for 2 people to eat (maybe just order extra balls and pita bread). The man who served me was very patient and friendly. I throughly enjoyed the falafels at this eatery and will definitely visit again. Also you have the option of buying the falafel mix (to cook at home) at $20 a kilo.

Tiny little hidden gem. Wish I worked/lived near this place as I’d be a regular. A really easy to read menu with super fresh ingredients that’ve been prepared with love. With so many kebab places this place manages to stand out from them all. The service is so lovely they genuinely care that you enjoy their food. And that you will!

Came by in the late afternoon for some takeaway after a heap of recommendations. It did not disappoint. The falafel meal came with so many diverse accompaniments - bread (of course), grilled eggplant, cauli, lots of pickled things, chickpeas, two salads, 3 dips: and all of them delicious. The star was the falafel itself, green and herbacious. I was impressed at the level of effort and detail put into a takeaway meal. The service was also really personal and friendly. I don’t live far so I’ll definitely be coming back. :)

I can see why this place is such an establishment with fast and friendly service plus delicious, affordable and satisfying food. Certainly will be a regular of mine when I’m craving falafel
Sally Tsang
Came here based on great reviews after taking my daughter swimming at the leisure centre. Food was yummy but although there were tables to sit at I think this is mainly a takeaway joint - no space inside, we sat outside and the wraps we ordered were brought out to us in takeaway bags rather than on plates. Happy with the food though - pretty authentic and tasty.

Finally, FINALLY visited this cafe and had the classic felafel wrap. It did not disappoint. It is heavy - a very substantial meal. An institution for felafel. Recommended.
Melissa
Hands down best falafels I have ever had. Everything was super fresh and tasted like real ingredients, really different from the regular falafel/kebab places.

Ordered the falafel main dish ($16) and lamb main dish ($18) to share between 4.
The packs came with pickles, salad and other veg, and dips.
- Salad: like it was plucked fresh from a garden. chickpeas also tasted really good, not like canned chickpeas. don't even get me started on the eggplant and cauliflower.
- Pickles: tasty, juicy and not too sharp.
- Dips: creamy but full of body, baba ganoush had a great smoky flavour.
- Falafel: wonderful fresh crispy little greener than usual balls. i could taste real chickpeas, and the hit of parsley, cumin and coriander.
- Lamb: super tasty meat, was a bit dry but the taste made up for it.

The service was great; I got takeaway so can't comment on eating there.

For the quality of ingredients and food, I definitely got my money's worth. Wouldn't choose to go to any other falafel shop.
Jiguar
Gorgeous food that is really well priced for what you get, all from a tiny bustling cafe set up in Coburg. Freshly made as you order. And the service is wonderful!
Daniel
Delicious lamb shawarmas with pieces of real lamb (not the meatloaf lamb you get at other takeaway kebab joints). The falafels were crisp and freshly cooked to order. Courteous service as always.

Don’t judge a book by its cover.....the most amazing falafel pitta ever! So tasty with the perfect amount of ingredients all the way through to the end! Definitely will be back!!
Good food good service. They're not trying to be something they're not. Even when they are flat out busy they're laughing with customers. This place is always my go to
Split The Bill
With all these rave reviews I had a craving for falafel so my friend and I headed over to check out Half Moon due to the high rating.
Quite an easy place to get to with ample parking at the local supermarket. What an electric group of customers from young skateboarders to families and the new hippy crowd too.
Ordered x2 of the lamb plate and a side of falafel.
We headed out to find a table there were a few empty ones - I understand that this place is cheap and cheerful but once seated noted that the tables were not wiped down nor did anyone wipe it down whilst we were seated, so we had to get a napkin and do this ourselves.
Overall once our food was served the falafel was crisp and delicious and the lamb plate was very generous serve (we should have shared 1)!
Change is good but I might just get take away from here in the future.
Jerry P. MacMillan.
Good solid food have score on board, very good kebabs but I find customer service is not always what it should be. When orders go wrong like mine, things are not good and you are made to feel that your at fault.
Boss man can also be a little rude and needs to look after his customers or because he has many customers he does not care if he upsets and loses some.
Be consistent and make everyone always welcome, we are paying customers who are keeping you in business. We deserve respect and benefit of doubt with order mix ups.
Overall good honest food, enjoy.
PixieMR
Beautiful vegetarian options and very fresh food, from the falafels to the babaganoush, charcoal vegetables, pickled vegetables, fresh salad. It’s hard to get very good falafels and they’re delicious there. The Egyptian owners and their staff are also really friendly and the service is very good.
Kim
Best falafel I've ever had!! So tasty and perfect textures and it's a pretty green inside. I got the falafel kebab with the fried cauliflower, eggplant, baba ganoosh, and I replaced the yoghurt with hummus. Also had lettuce tomato onion. So so so yummy. And good price!
Melb_Belly
Amazingly good falafel wraps that are cheap as chips.

$8 for a wrap with 3 falafels and a choice of fillings is simply amazing value.

The falafels are fried fresh to order by the friendly staff. It's fascinating watching them expertly assemble the tasty wraps.
Christopher James
Hands down the best lamb kebab you will ever have in your life . Friendly service and a real dedication to their craft make this one worth travelling too
Richard Wheelwright
Hands down the best felafel in Melbourne.

This lovely Egyptian family have been in the felafel game for longer than they'd probably care to admit, and their experience and care shines through every time.

Wonderfully fresh food and great coffee reminds you why it's so nice to be a Coburg local. You've gotta love little gems like this. Good value too.
One.hungry.girl10
Serving up the tastiest and best value meal in coburg!

Everything looked and tasted fresh and the place was super busy all afternoon. They cater from vegetarians to meat lovers.
Upen Malik
Food that gives multiple aromas to your taste buds combined with magical and such colorful presentation tempting to both your eyes and empty stomach!!
Concerned Mum
Fantastic food, service and outdoor atmosphere. Coffee is very good too. This is one cafe you should visit even if you don't live locally. I recommend the lamb shawarma for first-time visitors.
Kyeema
Probably one of the best lamb souvlaki I've ever had in Melbourne. Supremely tasty and well balanced fill and flavors. Simple take away cafe located in a shady outdoor eating mall, authentic Melbourne at its best! Board menu could benefit from a photo as next time I'll choose the open share plate.
Spinkick.6669
Oh my goodness, the falafel platter is to die for!!!! And how could I forget the COLIBABA! Owner and staff are all so friendly and lovely and all the food here is super fresh and tasty. Can't rate highly enough
Sara Pontonio
We shared the 'Mixed' main dish and it was absolutely delicious! The chicken and lamb was succulent and full of flavour, the falafel were perfectly crisp on the outside and super tasty and the salad's, sides and dips were so fresh! Everything was super tasty and perfectly complimented with freshly squeezed juice recommended by the lovely staff! Will definitely be back 😊
Mr MM Smith
Best place in Coburg for falafel, middle eastern food and all things delicious. The half moon is simply delicious, buy it and see for yourself.
Ozfoodie
There is tough competition for middle eastern food in Sydney road, but this place comes out as one of the best among them. The kebabs are all tasty, and to enjoy them in the nice outdoor seating on a sunny day is an excellent experience..
Lala187
I ordered the lamb shawarma/salad/pickles. Salad and pickles were fresh and lamb was pretty good. Yoghurt and hummus was ok, a bit thin? I like my dips thick like Nicki Minaj. Holla

Staff/owners were very friendly.

I really enjoyed sitting outside and chilling out. Great atmosphere on a nice day and I could see myself being a regular if I was a local.

Coffee was nice and strong.

The only con was as I was waiting for my order at the table outside, I saw a few people who had ordered after me walk out with their kebabs.

As my chin quivered and The song, The Sound of Silence kept playing in my head "Hello Darkness my old friend" I wondered what was going on.

Turns out they forgot my order amongst the lunch rush but when I reminded them, they were very apologetic.

Overall I was pleased with the food and would return.

always nice to have a meal at the cafe for more than 10 years. kebabs with vegies, pickles, bread and dips. coffee was also nice! friendly staffs including the owner.
Selena Baziotopoulos
Best falafel in Aus! Try the colibaba (with fried cauliflower) or the primavera (with grilled vegetables)and swap the yogurt sauce for tahini sauce. The people are lovely too.

The Half Moon is in a friendly little mall with the Coburg Library on one corner, other eating places nearby, and the Coburg Market. I was struck by the happiness and cheer of the customers who came in to order food while I was there. I kid you not. And the staff too were light-hearted and welcoming.

The lady who took my order (the $25 platter assortment of various individual dishes) said it would be 12 minutes. Say what you will about a 12-minute estimate, but I thought it was a tad charming (in the positive sense) and helped to calm my temporal expectations in this busy little establishment.

Some of the food was for tables in the mall outside. I would come back here just for the atmosphere.
Penguineats
Half Moon Cafe is a little take-away shop situated on a small suburban square with abundant plastic furniture outside. The decor may be not fancy but they sure do serve up some amazing food for cheap-as-chips prices. The Colibaba Kebab was simply unforgettable and the other penguins all agreed they would be recommending this place to their friends.
SweetSwedeFoodie
The best falafel I've had. Had Colibaba, with eggplant, cauliflower and yoghurt and it was delicious. The falafel is crispy outside and soft inside, not dry at all. Have nothing negative to say.
Mandy Blackman
So good! So fresh and really friendly service. Definitely will be back! We are new locals to the area and are loving checking out the various food spots. So much diversity in coburg! This is our favourite so far.. :)
N Kay
Slow and rude service from one of the staff members today. This is really disappointing as I am a regular customer. I am not inclined to go back again.
Mr Koul
The service is slow, and today they got one order wrong. Rather than trying to sort it out all I got was, no its my fault, then they back pedalled and offered to re-make the order, however, I'd have to wait 15 minutes on top of the 15 minutes wait to start with. I was not impressed with how I was treated... I waited patiently and was polite. This is the last time I will go to this place, they can keep their Kebabs.
Culinary Road Trip
We've been coming here for couple of years now. Every time I have always ordered the same thing that I ordered day one half moon felafel wrap with chilli and loved it every time until Saturday I got a little adventurous and ordered the Cairo. Felafel amazingness and lamb with their usual toppings and Chilli
Hands down the best felafel/kebab/wrap I have EVER eaten!!!!
Complimented the owner who said people going nuts for it and the lemon added to the felafel really goes with the lamb.
Very busy on the weekend people queue out the door and u may have to wait if you want to get a table but it's worth every second otherwise take it away.
Thank you half moon cafe for existing 👍
I only wish you were open later you'd make a killing 😁
Yen
When I moved to Coburg, a lot of my new neighbours recommended Half Moon as the place for falafel. And they're right - it's fresh, cheap and delicious. You usually have to wait but it's worth it.
JeannetN
This place is easy to miss as it doesn't look like much. The people sitting waiting for their takeaway and happy faces walking out tipped me off that I was in the right place! A friendly smiling lady took my order straight away. The price was quite unbelievably cheap. The fallafels took a while to cook but were deliciously crispy on the outside and juicy and flavoursome on the inside. Very filling, nutrious and decent sized serving. Will definitely be back.
Mia
Best Ful Medames in Melbourne and I've loved their falafel so fresh and yummy. Their service was fast and great. I'll definitely be back. Highly recommended!!
Lisa
Amazing! Best falafels we have had in Melbourne! The lamb and chicken were also moist and tasty. We were also greeted by the friendliest guy. Definitely coming back here
Imogen Bannister
Consistently the best felafel around. Always super crunchy on the outside and fluffy and moist inside, the spices are never harsh. Love the range of salad and filling choices. Can't be faulted. Oh - except beware - cash only.
ETA apparently they do now take card - min $15. Yay!
Charizard
Had their Half Moon Falafel which was hands down one of the best falafels I have had! The falafel was absolutely delicious as it was fragrant and flavourful! It had a slightly crispy exterior, while the inside was crumbly and rich in flavours. Moreover, the wrap consists of a generous amount of other ingredients that provided a variety of taste and textures! It was tangy and refreshing, with some crunch and the pita was aromatic! Given the price and portion served, it was very worth it! Furthermore, the staffs were friendly and the service was quick. Highly recommended!
Ti-Min Dolan
It all starts with the best falafel I've had, certainly in Melbourne and probably in the middle east as well.

The wrap combinations are also great, their baba ganoush is smoke to be rich and moreish, the staff take real pride in making sure the every ingredient is fresh, delicious and well presented.

And the service makes this the easy choice for a local or to travel halfway around Melbourne for.
Loof
Half Moon. What can I say. The most delicious part of my day. I'm whipping through all of the falafel combos but know in my heart I shall return and stick to your eponymous $8 Half Moon Falafel very soon.
Emma
Such delicious falafels, cooked perfectly. with interesting combinations including grilled cauliflower and eggplant. Fast friendly service!! We are regulars here.
Shadow Mullus
Best Falafel in Melbourne. I've been coming here for about 15 years and eating Falafel for over 30. The owner and staff take pride in the food and its very fresh. Hardly anyone coming here seems to order a kebab as the Falafel is so good. The Falafel is definitely the speciality and there are about 6 typed to choose from in the wraps alone. I often have a coffee with the home made baclava which is excellent too. I once told the owner he should put up the prices but he has hardly increased them over the years.
Love coming here and sitting outside whilst soaking up the atmosphere of the Coburg Mall.
Tori Yuksel
Try everything once! This place is great, super friendly and funny staff, the owner is a legend, the falafel is the best I've ever had, just writing this makes me want to pop in for a Cairo, and I will!
Allison Montano
The Half Moon falafel is my falafel of choice when visiting Half Moon. Great food with fresh ingredients. Well known to locals and a great place to visit. Its especially nice to sit outside with my little ones on a warm day and enjoy a tasty lunch.
Jane Kirkwood
I have tried a lot of different falafel in Melbourne but Half Moon Cafe is by far the best! And it doesn't just stop at the falafel! Both the lamb wraps and chicken wraps are always deliciously fresh and tasty. Prices are extremely reasonable and food is always served with a smile.
Suzane
This is an Egyptian place and they make falafel balls with fava beans, so they’re pea-green inside. Lots of stuffing, falafel was cooked perfectly. So soft inside and full of flavor.
This is the best falafel in Melbourne.
Mike
I’ve been to Half Moon Cafe a few times The Best falafel in Melbourne ,The staff are friendly and the service is prompt. the prices are extremely reasonable.
Rick
Best falafel ever! Great people and always use fresh ingredients, always happy to throw on some extras if requested. Can't rate this high enough..
Quincesandkale
I’ve been to Half Moon Cafe a few times but never blogged about it. Perhaps everyone in Melbourne has already been there, but if not, you should go. They have been voted the best falafel in Melbourne. I agree. They serve Egyptian style falafel, made with broad beans rather the usual general middle eastern kind made with chickpeas. I love their beautiful green interior.
Meltoneater
Best falafel wrap in Coburg. Lots of stuffing, falafel was cooked perfectly. So soft inside and full of flavor. The staff are friendly and the service is prompt. Grab a full moon wrap and sit outside while listening to street music performance, whats a better way to spend an afternoon?😁😁
Brodie Chan
Voted best falafel in Melbourne and rightly so! The baklava is light and crispy and you'll find it hard to stop at one. Owners Nabil and son Sharif are entertaining and highly accommodating. Coburg's worst kept secret ;-)
MattyB
The falafel at Half Moon Cafe is the best in Melbourne. The service is heart-warmingly friendly, and the prices are extremely reasonable. It's pretty much the best thing in Coburg.
Hungry Hippo
I'm pretty sure that Half Moon have the best felafel wraps in the world. This might seem like a stretch, but I've eaten felafels all over the world, including the middle east and africa and I still maintain it to be true. If I had to choose any felafel it would be from the quirky and sometimes dodgy central mall in central coburg. There's nothing like sitting with a coffee and felafel, surrounded by hungry pigeons, conglomerations of ranting coffee drinking elderly european men and the odd busker.
The service is fast and friendly. The food is fresh and delicious. I used to be loyal to the traditional felafel but I recently tried the Coli-baba and now I can't go back. There are a few varieties to try and they are all ridiculously cheap.
Db Monty
No other falafel in Melbourne comes close!! The mix of ingredients leaves all other falafels for dead. The half moon has delicious mix of pickles, olives and chickpeas. Colibaba has soft roasted cauliflower and eggplant. Yum!
Tim Parker
Fresh, healthy, unpretentious - Half Moon Cafe is a hidden gem! The falafel really is delicious, as is the hummus. The mixed plate left nothing to be desired, and to top it off, was well priced. No doubt I'll be back again soon.

Food Baby
The Half Moon Falafel is a solid rendition with the usual flavours, all fresh ingredients, and falafel made from Egyptian green fava bean mix. But the Colibaba (grilled cauliflower and eggplant, babaganouj, lettuce, falafel) with it's smoky flavour is next level!
Daniel May
Friendly service, remember me as a regular. Falafels fried fresh as you order. Fresh ingredients. Best falafel rolls in town. It can get busy here around lunchtime.
Pixiefoodie
Delicious and fresh. I absolutely love this place. The food is so fresh and very affordable!
K Driz
A reliably incredible lunch. Best best best always the best. love the sunflower and the half moon especially, and sharing a falafel plate is delish.
Antonio
Good coffee, friendly staff.
Will have to come back to try one of their falafels.
Waynekin
Best falafel in town!. 'Nuff said. Or maybe a little more. Friendly. Try the premavera falafel with veggies. Yummy!
Gastrology
the best falafels in Melbourne. Hard to believe? Well, it's true. In an unassuming little café, you would hardly suspect it but it is certainly a Melbourne gem.
The Quince Poacher
...a local institution for falafels. A plate of Middle Eastern deliciousness. Surprisingly, or maybe not, I’ve never reviewed Half Moon Café. Perhaps because the regularity of our visits it became somewhat prosaic and so familiar to me that I disregarded something very worthy of consideration. Which is a shame because when I started this blog places such as Half Moon Café were the types of restaurants I wanted to feature; local and seemingly unremarkable restaurants that were hidden gems, not being featured in the pages of Epicure and its ilk.
Rumbaba
So where does one get the best falafel in Melbourne? Its seems that the answer to this question may well depend on what sort of falafels you are looking for, the Egyptian version made from fava beans or the Lebanese style using chickpeas or varieties whic
Libby Margo
...the falafel at Half Moon Cafe in Coburg really ARE the best in town and I strongly implore you all to give them a try!
Eat And Be Merry Crew
Best felafel in Melbourne? That’s a pretty big call but quite a common claim for Half Moon Cafe, a non-descript little shop in a small mall off Sydney Road, Coburg. One thing which is a bit different about Half Moon Cafe is it promotes itself as providing “Egyptian” style falafel. So what exactly does that mean? Well my understanding, and I'm happy to be corrected if it's wrong, is it relates to the use of fava beans rather than the more typical chickpeas. Anyway, arriving just after 10am meant no meat based dishes were available but that was ok, it was falafel we were after. There are several varieties of falafel wraps available and for once Snooze and myself were of one mind for which to order, the Colibaba (fried cauliflower, eggplant, baba ghanush and yoghurt) and the traditional (tomato, pickles and tahina sauce). Having heard about generous sizes we thought that may be enough but just in case also ordered the Ful Medames, cooked fava beans turned into a paste served with warmed b

Best ever !. Great service & delicious food !
Very casual out door sitting area...
Def will be back ! Yummmmm

Excellent. I've not been myself but having been offered to try their falafel, I've never had better! Looking forward to coming in to see for myself
Anatomic
Delish and super value!. We had lunch at Half Moon yesterday and wow, such fresh and delicious falafel! I had the wrap with cauliflower and eggplant and it was generous, moist and succulent. Smashed it. My daughter had three crispy falafel a with hummus and loved it. My husband had the lamb shawarma and enjoyed it also. All three of us fed for $20. Bargain. We will be back to enjoy the colourful and feast-like plates. Yes yes!
Kane
Fantastic food with exceptionally friendly staff. Best falafel in Melbourne.

Amazing falafel and great value! A hidden gem.

The best. Half Moon Cafe has the best falafels. I get withdrawal symptoms if I don't have a Primavera every week. I always feel so welcome by the lovely owners and staff.

Amazing food and lovely owners, it's become our Sunday regular
