Review Wild Timor Cafe - Coburg

Faisal Sohail
Had a weekend brunch at Wild Timor and really enjoyed the food and ambience. Their tumeric tea was excellent and the food was delicious. Great cafe is a quieter part of Sydney rd - definitely worth checking out.

This was an unplanned stop, but we will definitely be back. I had Eggs Benedict and Lyn had Potato Rosti. They were sensational! The Timor Leste coffee was rich and smooth. The staff were friendly and efficient. All together, a great experience. Many thanks.

I’ve always loved the coffee from here, it’s the only decent coffee in coburg, super strong and the service was always great. They were my saving grace during lockdown. Not sure what’s happened in recent months but the staff seemed to have all changed, the last two times I’ve visited they’ve completely messed up my extremely basic order. The new staff seem like they hate their life, they were straight up rude and the place looks a mess. I won’t return.

Coffee - had a takeaway flat white. The coffee flavours were overpowered by the milk. Had a woody essence, mouthfeel was oily (in a good way) with a bitter, bark-like finish. Overall I’d say it was average, neither outstanding nor terrible. They have a lovely outdoor seating area on Faraday St that would be great to stay and enjoy on a nice day.

One of Coburg's absolute gems. A great friendly crew pumping out their own delicious blend of coffee, coupled with great food and a great local vibe. The bacon and egg burger is an absolute belter. Get around it.

Wild Timor coffee has a large selection of menu items and plenty of cold brew available. Make sure to get in early as this place was pumping when I got there. The mushroom eggs Benny was actually really good, the mushrooms where cooked perfectly and where generous. The choice of bread for the Benny was great and crunchy and didn't really get too soggy. Will definately visit again 😁

Probably the best taste and most consistent coffee in Coburg, these guys do good work. Ive had better but id have to travel for that. Food is pretty typical for a cafe, a little overpriced but quite a nice breakfast. 4 stars

New to neighbourhood, so happy with the friendly staff. My coffee can be annoying to make and they make it so delicious 🤍

Sign on the door says visit the website and order online, so I did, and paid online, then 20 mins later when I collected my coffee they presented me the eftpos machine and asked me to pay...essentially, I paid $10 for 1 coffee. Not a good experience if they cannot work out who has or hasn't paid when they ask you to order online.

They are seriously struggling to serve food and drinks adequately and accurately. My household has given them many chances during COVID-19 as we want to support local businesses. 4 out of 5 of our last takeaway orders have been wrong and/or late. Our latest order was incorrect, 30 minutes late after the pick-up time which was booked in advance. I stood outside for half an hour watching other orders going cold in the window that they weren’t calling out and announcing to people.

I’ve also had burgers and toasted ham and cheese croissants served in very small slices of toasted bread as they ran out of burgers and croissants. They didn’t even tell me they ran out of burger buns & when they ran out of croissants they told me at the time the order was due for pick-up (there were other items in the order) and they had croissants in the window “reserved for in store customers”.

No real apology, compensation or willingness to help customers find a way to get timely and accurate food.

Really tough, like I said we want to give them support but it just isn’t working. Twice I’ve said “I want to continue to support your business, what is the best thing I can do to get an accurate and on time order? I’ve ordered online and over the phone and also scheduled well ahead, what works best for you?” Both times I received a shrug as a response...

Great coffee. They never get it wrong!!!

What a perfect find for a local cafe . Coffee brilliant , vibe cruisie and super friendly , food delicious so all of those elements and I’m one happy food addict! I had a hash with smashed peas and added a side of bacon and loved it all! The beetroot was a nice little element as I love beetroot!
Would highly recommend and certainly return !

Polite staff

Good coffee and all for a great cause

Have eaten breakfast once before and couldn’t complain about the food! We both really enjoyed it

Will visit again

Mother’s Day brunch with hubby, son and daughter. Love their coffee story. Every dishes we ordered are fabulous. Burrito serves with their special chili sauce, so fresh and taste so good.

Walking towards city from Coburg market a few blocks away, this cafe is on the left.
Looks very popular for the locals and full on Friday noon.
The coffee was very deep traditional strong flavour without ordering strong.
Total scores 4.5. -0.5 is my Mr expected full avocado for extra order.
We are happy to come back again.

Really yummy mushroom on toast and great coffee for a good cause. Service was friendly and helpful! Their spicy chili chutney is very very hot but addicting and definitely will be back to try more off the menu.

I really loved this place, the staff were super friendly and attentive. Initially me and my friend went to just have a cup of coffee and a chat, but ended up coming back for lunch because this place was so warm, cozy and friendly. I had the Baucau Bowl (?) which was delicious, they have a lot of vegetarian and vegan options as well.

The food and coffee doesn't get any better than this! The best breaky/brunch without doubt. The menu items are a little different, with a distinct Timorese style as the name suggests. I always pay a visit when I'm in Melbourne. Can't go past the sweet and sour eggs and a large flat white.

Lovely lovely lovey.
You know the menu is good when it takes you longer than the allocated time the waiter gives you to decide. I wasn’t even fussed when they told me the special I wanted was all out because I had about 5 other choices ready to go. Almost everything on this menu is veg friendly but has something for just about everyone.
The food was delicious and presented in a very humble way. The highlights were the eggs which were cooked perfectly down to the absolute second, the red pepper relish and the spicy grilled eggplant.
The coffee was very good too along with the beetroot latte that had a very subtle and present flavour.
The only thing that I could fault them on would have to be the wait staff who while most very friendly and relaxed, there were some members that we found to have a slightly stand offish demeanour which is not really what you want at a cafe. Despite that, the quality of the food and coffee along with the enticing menu will definitely see me coming back for more.
Went their today for a work meeting. The coffee was a bit bitter and the Portuguese tarts tasted funny. My colleagues ordered a chai and a hot chocolate with almond milk. They both tasted the drinks and mentioned how they tasted off. One of them said something to the guy working their and he came to our table to explain that actually there was nothing wrong with the almond milk. It was akward as his tone was defensive. He did make them new drinks with soy milk however the damage had been done already.
Hungry For Chips
Friendly service and nice little neighbourhood cafe. Didn’t get food this time around and only coffee. They were good but just a little too much milk.

A nice little cafe in Coburg Sydney road, I have been twice for take away coffee, the coffee was good but on the milky side. but the place is fab and cozy,. recommended when you are in the area 😄

Boutique coffee beans, exotic ...

On the Latte alone .... this place is a gem for showcasing exotic East Timor or Timor Leste or Timor Timur coffee beans.

Great work guys ... JT-10/02/2018.

very good and all the food is super delicious. very nicely decorated and the outdoor area is beautiful. staff is also very friendly and welcoming

Perfect little local cafe, cozy space, friendly staff and nourishing food.
Tried the Buddha Bowl today, it was delicious, full of flavoursome veggies and goodness. Paired with a coconut hot chocolate I was one happy customer. The lovely lady at the counter then bought over a free vegan slice for me to try, how sweet and the slice was also yummy! I don't drink coffee but hubby said his coffee was excellent.
Brew Hunter
Wild Timor serves ethical, fair trade, organically sourced coffee that is brewed to utter perfection by fine baristas. I popped in for a quick takeaway long black on a Saturday morning and was greeted at the counter by friendly enthusiastic staff. The cafe was very busy and the food looked delicious, so as I was waiting for my brew i glanced at the mouthwatering menu. I barely got to the end of the menu when my coffee was placed in my hot little hands. The coffee was utterly divine, lighting up my plate with acidic nutty palatable flavours leaving a pleasant tartness at the back of ones throat.

It safe to say I will certainly have to return to this cute little cafe to try some items off there menu, but the amazing quality of coffee is enough of an incentive to return.
I agree with most comments that the coffee has been enjoyable on my visits. The menu is full of options that entice me. I've only tasted a couple of things and they hit the spot.

I love what the cafe is doing socially re Timor, however I disagree with other comments on one point - I don't find the staff welcoming. They may be smiling and attentive but not friendly or welcoming. The barista is totally bossy. I walked in and was bossed and directed where to sit. And I've sat here and listened to her do the same from behind the coffee machine to other customers. Makes me feel uncomfortable and that customers are not valued. I won't be back too often at that rate.

Good food but pretty disappointed that they won't let you swap out certain foods in the menu (even when quiet) and instead they simply charge extra for the item. Not good enough to be honest.
Nani Eats Coffee World Tour
Sweet ambience serving in-your-face long blacks! Créma with an abundant and humid jungle-kick collapsing into a smooth and reviving undertone. GF menu options, catering for many dietary requirements. Good, simple, wholesome food. Decor is slightly provincial, minimalistic and relaxed. Prams welcome. A real Gem in the slightly industrial section Sydney Road.

Today I met up with a work colleague and she said she will take me somewhere nice to lunch. Knowing I have high expectations, she knew I am super picky. She told me about a local cafe that's her local hangout and boy was I glad that she took me.

Wild Timor has one of the best coffees around - the blend smooth and strong. I went on my friend's recommendation of one of the best burgers around - the pulled pork and I was not disappointed. The pork was full of flavour - deliciously satisfying - I could easily return just for this.

Wild Timor Coffee is one of those places you can walk by and simply miss it. The atmosphere is warm and cosy. The service attentive and friendly. It is a true hidden gem in Coburg - many locals know about it and the place I am told is packed on weekends.

I love what they do and how they support Timor and the programs and projects for local communities. It is definitely a place that I would be more than happy to return to.

Really wanted to love wild timor again however this place is indeed a mix of good and bad coffees from time to time. It used to be my fav place for caffeine then later on I found the quality of being inconsistently good - or bad? Recent visits confirmed the finding again and again - sometimes the coffee was burning, and now the full bodied, strong flavoured coffee is long gone. Probably won't be returning.

The dukkah eggs were amazing! Absolutely made my day! Can't wait to go back! Service was really good and the atmosphere was relaxing. So good!

I've driven past this place many times and finally ventured down to get a coffee, and was fairly satisfied. The coffee (skinny cappuccino) was great, and it was value for money. The service was friendly and most importantly quick. The interior is very different and makes you feel like you've walked into a complete different place from that of Sydney Road. Will definitely keep this place in mind for a future breakfast visit.

Nice that it's local and such great customer service. I wish the place had more timorese food though. Their menu had a variety of healthy food which I liked. It's nice that they are raising awareness of the culture.

Food is unique, a pleasant change from the standard cafe grub. Coffee was so good I wanted more. Staff were super friendly and accommodating. Best of all dog friendly with cute outdoor area.

Amazing coffee. Just simply amazing. Worth the drive from where I live!! The staff are lovely and the cafe atmosphere is fantastic!!!! Coffee is the main selling point.
BrunchQueen
The service was friendly but not attentive, food took a while to come out. The jaco melon smoothie was very refreshing. The coffee was amazing and the breakfast burrito was delicious.

This is one cool little joint. Awesome coffee - I buy their beans to take home as well - a strong, rounded and full flavoured brew, not too acidic, love it. Will try to eat here one day at which point I'll update this review. Big ups.

Awesome coffee, fab food, awesome vibe and tunes..and great service. Why not a 5/5 - just simply cause i bekieve that everyone has room to improve somewhere. But from where i sit (after enjoying most delicious lunch) im one happy camper. Thanks guys!!

This place is such an unassuming little cafe! I've been 4 times already and the food is fantastic! Many veg options, great coffee and customer service with a smile! My favvvv thus far is the halloumi burger, seriously ive had many a hamburger and for a vegetarian burger it packed more flavour then some hamburgers ive had!

Real chai ✅
Busy little place. If it's a hot day the outdoor area is hot n sweaty. They need a fan and some music for ambiance me thinks.

I had eggs beny which was nice and my mate had the avo chia toast thang. They forgot her meal though 😯
Meals are well presented and fresh, the gf bread was great.

Really bold, strong creamy coffee. Great grub. Waitress could of smiled more but you get that on the big jobs. The food was fresh and a great menu for the health conscious but I went the Breakfast burger and my son the Halloumi burger and it didn't touch the sides. The cafe invests the money back into Timor for projects like bringing water to the community. I left a tip and felt good.

Vietnamese iced Coffee and iced tea very nice even though they came in jars. I has the green benedict with the worst poached eggs I've ever encountered , hard and rubbery. The rest of the dish was quite tasty

New fav! Bloody amazing. Cool pace, great coffee and yummo food. So many choices on the menu, will have to come back and try everything. Go Coburg!

Very cozy little cafe. Was intrigued by the story behind and decided to visit it on a rainy day. Ordered a cappuccino and a roast pumpkin open sandwich. Taste quite good. The staff is friendly and service prompt. Overall very nice experience. Will go back.

The story behind wild Timor is great enough to go despite the food or coffee being amazing BUT the food and coffee is also amazing. love this place.
Thegormondiser
I really want to like this place. The concept is great, and the fitout is lovely. Unfortunately the coffee is pretty badly burnt. Even worse are the baked goods. Both times I've visited they have been days old. You can't expect people to pay full price for old, chewy Portuguese tarts.
Hello. Imnikki
Lovely cafe with a good selection of sweet and savoury bagels on the menu. Really enjoyed my chorizo bagel. My friend ordered the Timorese sweet and sour eggs which was delicious. Great selection of raw treats too.
Francesca Armstrong
Fantastic, attentive and friendly service. Good coffee and super yummy homemade treats. Bright and open interior. Will definitely be coming back again
Out And About
I stopped in for a takeaway coffee and was disappointed. It's been a while since I've had a coffee this badly burnt. Such a cool concept for a cafe and great ambiance. Maybe it was just a once-off bad coffee?

Had a fantastic brunch here today. The Timorese Sweet & Sour egg with chorizo was absolutely delicious. The Timorese chilli sauce and rocquette pesto really added the bang to the dish. My friend said the Eggs Benedict was perfect. The coffee was strong and very good. Will definitely be back for more.

Super greens salad is the best balanced and tastiest healthy salad I've ever eaten. I crave it when I haven't had one for a while. Absolutely delish!

Panalo!!!. I first get to try this coffee in my work place in Melbourne CBD, and I Loved it!

I am a Filipino residing in South Yarra and drives to Coburg from time to time just have to have coffee.

Panalo means Winner in our Language =)

Wild Timor donated a heap of coffee to our school fete. They were really helpful with ordering is some extra equipment for the day. We went along to pick up the items and decided to stay for lunch. As the waitress was taking our order my friend and I laughed that we were going to share a veggie burger and a halloumi burger. Imagine how happy we were when our order came out not only pre cut but half of each burger on each plate. It's a little thing but it made us so happy! Well played. The halloumi buger is awesome too. So much so I may have gone back the next day for another!

Interesting coffee menu and friendly, helpful staff. If you need any more proof that coburg is becoming north brunswick, check this place out. just up from that other outpost of the comfortably hip, the post office hotel, i've been here twice and liked it both times.

chilled vibe, excellent service and an interesting range of coffees. also, a good place to read.

So much potential, but..... Saturday morning, 9am cafe half full - waited 45mins for two meals (bagel and poached eggs on toast), one was cold and toast not cooked. Had to send back and 10mins later still waiting, had to ask again and then the waitress preceded to tell me it's hard to cook GF bread and that they were 'busy', rather than apologising and offering a refund/meal replacement. Then ordered coffee and smoothie to go, 15mins later all came out as eat in, another send back. So much potential but failed to deliver.

I am unable to drink milk and dislike coffee, so am an avid soy chai latte drinker. This is by far the best chai latte I've had in melb... Now it's my regular weekend treat!

Stumbled upon it and. I love the atmosphere, chilled out vibe, friendly guys behind the counter and their coffee. It is a well prepared strong coffee, perfect for me as this is the way I like it. If you like smooth coffee order a weak one. Patrons of all ages come and go, something that is always a good sign.

Quality Coffee & nice food in a great atmosphere!. Been to Wild Timor Coffee at Coburg several times and highly recommend the cafe. The coffee they produce is great! Organic, roasted and presented well with a great history too just ask the staff and look at the walls. It's great to see some young Australian Veterans establishing a business that gives back to the local community in East Timor. Well done guys!

Pick me up!. Stunning coffee, wonderful energy, and really friendly service. An asset to that end of Sydney Rd. I'll be back :)

Family & friends have been telling me to go for ages so I finally did & it did not disappoint. My latte, haloumi burger & Portuguese tart were amazing. Being so close to home, I'll be going a lot more. I recommend the Portuguese tart to anyone. I've been to Portugal & this is just as good as the ones I ate there.

Awesome Coffee!. Probably been to this wild Timor coffee 10 times. Coffee is high quality. You can imagine it really does come straight from the jungle! Staff are fantastic and it is a great atmosphere. Couldn't believe the crowd the other day when I walked in! Seems all the other locals in coburg are becoming fans as well! Going to try the holoumi burger next time I'm there.

No, it's not a place you come to if your starving. However great coffee, tasty small menu. This place is all about the coffee not the food. They don't preach to be anything else, after all the place is called Wild Timor COFFEE..

Fantastic Coffee!!! And with links to a good cause. Great venue, friendly and cool atmosphere

The coffee is well made and food is good

The coffee beans I bought for home have been great quality

And to add to all of that, they are aligned with some really good charities and causes!! Good work!

Not vegan-friendly if you're at all hungry. Lovely space, and coffee was good, but the options for food are limited to tiny little cakes and slices. There are more substantial breakfast options, but none of these are vegan or can be modified to be vegan.

This is fine in itself, but the cafe sells itself as vegan-friendly here on Urbanspoon and on its website, and the menu is not available anywhere beforehand. We took a chance that there would be at least one option for breakfast, there was not. Wait staff, although lovely and polite, were "stumped".
Karenellarr
Great Coffee!. What a lovely way to start a Sunday morning. Everyone there is so friendly and we were spoilt for choice with cake! The coffee was delicious and I was impressed to see that they even have almond milk as an option because not a lot of place do. Kudos!

Coffee with a conscience. Funky little place with great ethical coffee from Timor Leste.
These guys are only new to the cafe game but already they are running a pretty tight ship.
Cheap prices and a delicious, but limited menu. Would love to see these guys expand their menu to include breakfast options.
Will definitely return.

Warm and welcoming staff, tasty treats and Amazing coffee.. Well done guys

.... I decided to head to Wild Timor Cafe for lunch. The space inside is nice and light, not crowded, not loud, just right. There was a high chair at a table and as a parent I found it quite roomy. I really liked the pictures on the wall, unfortunately I didn’t get a photo as people were sitting at the tables there. The sign out the front on the bike said the court yard was open, but I only read the sign on my way out! Wild Timor Coffee Co. has an interesting story behind it. I don’t want to get it wrong here, so I’m just going to copy-paste from http://www.wildtimorcoffee.com/phone/our-story.html In early 2012, four Australian soldiers were sent as part of a peace keeping force to help with the stabilisation of East Timor as part of a long standing friendship between Australia and East Timor which spans back to World War 2. A 200 year old discovery After 30 years of neglect during Indonesian rule, coffee that was originally planted by the Portuguese some 200 years ago, was discovered by peace keepers in remote villages, as they patrolled the area, striving to ensure that it remain trouble free and searching for militia hell-bent on destruction. Unique, wild and organic The now ‘wild’ coffee that grows in the mountain regions of Maubisse and Aileu is thriving. The former soldiers have become loyal friends of the farmers who once fled their crops, are now tending to the coffee. Fair, equitable profit for Timor Leste They have now returned with coffee from the same plants for everyone to enjoy and also to ensure that their friends in Timor Leste are finally beginning to enjoy the fruits of their struggle for independence and are receiving a fair and equitable price for their product. The menu contains veg*n and non

Located at 282 Sydney Road in Coburg, the moment you see the store, you knew you were in for something special. And once you stepped in, that’s when the magic really happens. Surrounded by all the photos of the ways this endeavour gives back, along with the way the cafe is set up, just oozes charm and welcome. Having a chat to one of the founders Shannon French, you could see that these men really wanted to give back to the Timorese people. The same people who, after having nothing, suffering from the fallout of war and still managing to share with our patrolling Aussies the coffee they have, is something left to be admired. And ultimately

Wild Timor Coffee was established by four ex-soldiers who were part of the peace-keeping mission in East Timor in 2012. While they were there they discovered that the coffee grown by the locals was being traded unfairly by middlemen taking a huge cut of the profits. The soldiers set up Wild Timor Coffee Co. and raised enough money to begin trading the coffee to Australia and paying the farmers a fair and equitable price for their product. So now you and I can enjoy the incredibly fresh and powerful Timorese coffee along with traditional flavours of the region like P

.... And Wild Timor Coffee is part of that continuing process. On all my visits I’ve found the staff to be incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about the coffee they are selling, which is, as the name suggests, wild, the result of crops planted by East Timor’s former colonial masters, the Portuguese, who fled when Indonesia invaded in 1975. These coffee crops have become a unique Arabica-robusta hybrid, making for a medium to strong strength coffee expertly made by the baristas. Let me tell you on a cold, Spring Melbourne morning while waiting for the no. 19 tram a good coffee like this is welcome indeed. Timorese pineapple caramel cake The food has an East Timorese focus and there is a wide array of cakes, including raw vegan cakes, available. One of my concerns though with Wild Timor Coffee is because people want this café to be a success (as it should be), there is a tendency to provide fulsome reviews of the food offerings, when I’m not quite convinced they’ve got this right – yet. My experience to date has been m

Wild Timor Coffee is a welcome addition to the area, judging by how busy it was on a cold Monday morning. The small-ish interior is nicely decorated with stripped-back brick and wooden shelves, giving it a cozy and welcoming feel, and staff are friendly. The coffee was excellent. I had muesli, which came in a jar with flavoursome thinly sliced strawberries, yogurt and an interestingly textured mix of seeds and grains drizzled with honey. D had the halloumi burger which packed a spicy punch.
