Review The Old Cop Shop - Coburg

Nicole Luckman
Really enjoyed this place. Great food the portions are large as well quite filling. The staff are extremely helpful especially with dietary requirements. Recommend this place for couples, groups and a quiet night out. The restaurant has all the old police memorabilia which adds to the character of the place. Good location with plenty of street parking available.
Michael Hutchison
Enjoyable food, friendly staff and good drinks on offer. This is a converted police station and the venue celebrates its history with memorabilia and points of interest. There's a beer garden out back.

Went there for lunch last tuesday , what an amazing night Great food and great service. Thanks we will be back again soon.

It's a restaurant that comes in on the pricey side. The food is nice enough, with a gourmet pub feel. It has a functional beer garden, but is on the small side and feels a little tacked on. There are better places to go in the area, but it's nice enough to try out more then once. I think the main novelty comes from the fact the building used to be the old Coburg Police station.

How good is this place. The food was bloody good, my friend and i share the steak platter and it was spot on and plenty of it. Staff where very helpful and pleasant and knew the menu well. It has a nice relaxed atmosphere. I'll ne back again.
Nino
Delicious food, great service along with a nice celebration of its police history on the walls. Gluten free bread also available.
Chris
The food was good. The variations on the menu are quite wide! Interesting atmosphere with the old room dividing walls, from the police station, marked out on the floor! Interesting pictures on the walls friendly staff that, in our case, was quite unexperienced.

Yummy breakfast menu & great service. Great coffee too. Definitely will return. There's a kids menu too

☆ amazing food -- hubby and i shared the meat share plate whilst our other friends had top dishes also ☆ Cheers also to the service we received!! Will definitely recommend

4 of us ate at The Cop Shop last night and could not have been happier. Every facet of our experience was spot on-friendly staff, nice food, nice beer and great bit of history. Some of these places can seem a bit fake but every aspect of The Cop Shop for all of us was very well executed. Definitely be back.

We celebrated a 70th at the old cop shop. It was a brilliant night. The staff were adorable and nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent as well. Would most definitely recommend The old cop shop to anyone that wants a first class night

Huge thanks to Chris, Lisa, Brendan & all the crew at The Old Cop Shop for making Mum's 60th birthday a memorable night. Can't thank you guys enough. Oh a huge shout out to Mike for his surprise birthday singing. Food was immaculate as ever with never really needing to ask for a beverage top up. Highly recommend having your next function there.

What a wonderful night out. There were 11 of us there last night Sat 12 May 2018. The service was magnificent and the food was spectacular, I can’t speak highly enough of the Beautiful Restaurant, we will certainly be going back & recommending this wonderful restaurant to our friends, thank you to all the staff, regards Rob

Just had the best meal in Melbourne great food great service on holiday from Perth.

What a great place! Drinks (a cracking cider) outside first before venturing inside for dinner. Lots of remnants from the cop shop from room name plaques in the floorboards to stories of old. Staff were lovely. Could do with a few more wines on the list but my cab sav was good. Food was fantastic

We had a great time here. The food was so delicious! The kale salad was amazing. Staff were so helpful. Cannot recommend it enough. As a venue for a function, the private rooms were brilliant!! Thank you so much or your hospitality!!

The potato and leak soup and the battered zuchinin flower was the highlight of my day . U can easily tell theres a chef back there in the kitchen..
Janette Pirret
Great venue & great service not to mention all the friendly helpful staff - would highly recommend this place for your next function

I was very disappointed with the Service and the Food....we were there on a Saturday evening but the place was not crowded, they didn't have all the drinks that were on the menu firstly....very limited actually...then our orders were taken...the meals came out at random....like some for our table and some for the next table of people which seemed odd....we had to wait ages for the last meal to come out for our table even though we asked where it was....and the next table to us also appeared to have the same problem.  Very very un-organised...the Waitress was rude to the point of avoiding all the tables that were having a problem.  So, very difficult to order any more drinks as she would not make eye contact with us.  Would not recommend this place to eat.  It's a shame as the Restaurant does have a lovely feel to it, just really bad service.  The meals were very average also.

Ok where do I start, lets start with the Staff hmmmmmm I think they should look for a new career, no personality, no knowledge of menu and certainly no customer service skills. <br/><br/>I don't normally like to leave a bad review as I understand everyone needs to make a living but people go out for dinner and pay for it with hard earned money and they deserve a good experience.  We were a group of 7 on a Friday night and were the only ones in the restaurant, you would think the staff would go above and beyond. We tried to order Steak but we were advised they only had 1 steak, then we asked for the open souvlaki but were advised they ran out of lamb, we eventually ordered something on the menu but most of it was returned due to: too tough, not cooked well, dry, the saganaki was like cardboard as it was pre-cooked and microwaved, etc lemon on the plates looked re-used (like it has been sucked on, disgusting)<br/><br/>We definitely won't be returning, I rated it 1 but if I could change it to Zero I would.
Devi
Lovely service, however food quality was quite poor especially as nice venue and premium prices for pub food, I had Chicken Karage which was quite dry tho the asparagus and sauces were lovely <br/>
Najjar43
Booked a table over the phone and turned up, there was no booking. Our order was wrong and there was a human hair in our food... such a shame. Was hoping this place would be great vibes and great food but unfortunately we will not be returning.

New owner, do yourself a favour and don’t go here until they learn to run a restaurant. No atmosphere bright lights no music, incompetent wait staff, food items missing off menu, can’t find the wine from the list so try to sell much higher price wine. Food sent back as not cooked. And we have barely started dinner while writing this review ... I’m not sure they can possibly mess anything else up. Such a shame for a nice venue.
Sarah Cunningham
The food has been consistently good every time I’ve been and the prices are reasonable. They do a huge, juicy chicken parma! The building is also lovely and has some interesting historical touches from when it was an actual police station. Unfortunately that’s where the positives end. The Old Cop Shop is always empty and it’s such a shame because it has potential to be great. The beer “garden” could be a regular hangout for us Coburg locals if it had some plants or something to add some atmosphere - it’s just concrete and metal tables. The service is terrible - one night there was only one person working (apart from the chef) and she had to seat customers, take orders, bring food out, make drinks, give people their bill, take money at the register...obviously everything had a very long wait. Another night (a Saturday) we came with friends and weren’t able to order desserts after our meals because they were closing (it was 9pm!!) Another night the wait staff were relaxing in the beer garden while one male staff member did everything. Tonight the same guy is doing most things again while the two female staff are mostly sitting around on their phones. We waited a good few minutes to be seated on arrival, while the two females sat at a table on their phones and didn’t even notice we’d walked in. Another customer ended up getting up from her table and helping herself to water and menus because no one else was doing it! Nobody asked what we would like to drink so we made do with table water. And, as always, our plates were cleared without anyone asking how our food was or would we like anything else (drinks?? dessert maybe??). Tonight was the last straw for me. Unless the staff lift their game I will be going to The Post Office or Edinburgh Castle from now on. <br/>
Kiwi Living In The Big Smoke
Very cool place with a bit of history attached.<br/>Food was good. Staff were friendly and knew what they were doing. Nice place and would happily go back.

Service was non existent when 4 of us went on a very, very quiet Wednesday night. Overall fairly disappointing. Wouldn’t be in a hurry to recommend.
Hebsta
I've had one ok meal here - a lovely minestrone soup that both my mother and I enjoyed.  Sadly my other experiences have not been great - service was ordinary and disjointed, with one meal arriving 10 minutes before my companion's.  Serving staff didn't appear to be familiar with menu items either.  A real shame as this place could be a great local restaurant/beer garden.
Itslifekid
A really nice space that might do lunch and drinks really well, but breakfast was very disappointing. The coffee was ordinary at best, and the food wasn't much better. I had the Big Breakfast, which whilst being big, was pretty much the only thing going for it. In particular, the bread was either stale or such poor quality that when toasted, cutting into it would make it crumble and inedible. Very limited options as well. Too many other quality options and competition in the area for that kind of food and coffee.

A cassoulet is a slow-cooked casserole with white beans and different cuts of meat. Their menu reads: ‘Cassoulet, roast pork belly, white bean cassoulet, lamb shoulder, smoked ham hock, pork sausage and crackling’. It sounded appealing. When a piece of pork belly, extremely fatty and black on the bottom, was placed in front of me I thought I had the wrong dish. I asked where the smoked ham hock and the lamb shoulder was and the waiter said it’s in the sausage. I asked where the sausage was and he said it was in very small pieces, pointing to the tiny button mushrooms on the plate. Offended at being told I couldn’t see what was on my plate, I decided to stay polite and not spoil our night by calling out the waiter and the chef. If you can’t see the lamb shoulder, the smoked ham hock and the pork sausage on my plate in this photo then you’re as blind as my friends and I. Totally rude to lie about missing ingredients with a straight face and insult customers. We definitely won’t be coming back.
Malcolm Frame
Food and service was OK, however, ordered a jug of soft drink and did not even get three glasses from it due to all the ice. Explanation given was that it was a management directive to short change customers. Would have received more, at a cheaper cost, to order three individual soft drinks. Very disappointed and felt cheated.
The Mountain
Slow and poor service! Came here on a Saturday night, the place was mostly empty and our table struggled to get any service from staff. <br/>Food was average and lacked flavour. <br/><br/>Has some potential but needs significant improvement.

Popped in here for a meal recently. I’ve been meaning to try it for ages because I drive passed it all the time. The interior is cool if you’re a fan of history and the local area. Like the name suggests, this place used to be a police station and there’s photos and things hanging on the walls that tell the story. Pretty cool! <br/>As for the food, it was good but not spectacular. But for a pub meal it’s nice, it will satisfy. I had the calamari which was tasty and came with a nice side salad. The ribs were probably the standout, massive serve and super tasty. The superfood salad was also good.
Peter Cartledge
The gnocchi was tasty and well cooked as were mushrooms, the butter white wine sauce just seemed oily it didn’t taste of anything really. I would like to have a few of the better wines available by the glass. I went here again 12/18 with a group, good service nice list of Gins but was horrified when they used Coles tonic in the gin, what’s the point of having good Gin if you use trashy tonic, I almost said don’t bother but did not want to seem a dick. Main course of Barramundi with prawn wontons. Barra was raw, I had to send it back, wantons were delicious. Attention to detail is needed and some quality wines by the glass.

Been here a few times for breakfast/brunch and overall pretty happy. Food comes out quick, water served on entrance, staff polite and friendly, with cool police theme ambiance. Layout is alright, although i preffered what they had previously with the booth style. Food itself is really good, personally go for the eggs benedict. Portion is decent albeit on the pricer end. Overall will continue to come back!

Really nice atmosphere, we had a lovely warm night & sat outside for drinks & dinner - the staff were friendly & the service was great.  The menu has a good variety to select from & the drink menu is huge.  We ordered steak (medium) but unfortunately it came out over done, BUT lucky it was a good cut of meat & was still tender - will definitely come back & try the breakfast & come back for afternoon drinks

Nice set out with a great little courtyard area. Food was very tasty however a little overpriced. Their home brew lager was delicious. Well worth a visit

It's all about timing. The Coburg area needs just this sort of place, and the Cop Shop fills a gap that has needed filling for some time. There are plenty of good cheap ethnic eateries in the area, heaps of quality take-away places, and a couple of good pubs (the Post Office and the Woodlands are stand-outs). What the area lacks is a more traditional restaurant, or, even better, a bar restaurant. The sort-of place that would fit nicely in one of our city's more traditional dining strips.<br/><br/>The Cop Shop fits beautifully, and is just the thing the area needs. The spacious venue is located in--surprise, surprise--the old Coburg courthouse and police station. It's a huge space, with a great outdoor area that I'm looking forward to enjoying in the warmer months. The indoor area is friendly, comfortable, and spacious, and has a very warm feel. I've found the staff to be uniformally friendly and efficient. Service is fast and competent. A couple of private rooms are also available, and the outdoor area can hold functions for up to 80 people. Come Christmas, I can see it being used heavily.<br/><br/>The food here has a bit of an Italian edge, but it's basically mod-Melbourne bistro. Good pasta and risotto, but also some interesting Asian-fusion dishes. We're talking good quality ingredients with strong tasty flavours, but it's very cosmopolitan, and that's fine. Like I said, mod-Melbourne bistro--something for everyone, including popular classics--parma, burger, steak, etc.. There's your typical "small dish large dish" distinction (what's wrong with the words "entree" and "main"), and always some specials.<br/><br/>Everything I've eaten here has been great. The chef really knows his stuff and his team obviously works well. Food comes out at an impressive pace. I've never tested the place out when it's been really busy. If they can keep up this standard of service when busy then I'd be very, very impressed.<br/><br/>The pasta dishes and risotto here are a standout. I've enjoyed the gnocchi with mushrooms on several occasions and it's always excellent. My most recent visit there tempted me with the crab risotto, and I was glad I did--a wonderful dish.<br/><br/>Serves here are generous, and the prices are fair--not cheap, but fair. There's a decent drinks list with some interesting wines by the bottle.<br/><br/>Given the increasingly gentrifying demographic of this area, my feeling is that the Cop Shop hits the mark on a number of levels. I'll certainly be going there regularly, and I suggest you do too.

Visited for Breakfast and sadly it will be our last time. The omelette was dry, rubbery, and clearly over cooked, oh & cold toast was a lovely addition. My wife's scrambled eggs and smashed avo over all, flavourless. The worst breakfast this year.

One Saturday night the girlfriend and myself were out and about and thinking of a place to eat, when we caught up with my brother who immediately suggested to me about this place as he had been there before. I mean I knew it as its namesake and not the restaurant it has become. It was an amazing suggestion no doubt about it!<br/>As there was 4 of us we thought we would get 2 of the Meat Tasting Platters and boy oh boy what a choice it was!<br/>The food was cooked to the utmost perfection, the meat was just sublime, the ribs were juicy-perfection the way ribs should be!<br/>Just an all around amazing restaurant, yes the meat platter is $69, but at the end of the day you are tasting 5 types of meat, so the price is offset with the amount of food that is on the plate!
Parma Daze
After the utter debacle that was our last attempt the pressure was on to find a decent spot for our next review - I'd be facing a mutiny if I put another shocker on the docket. . It was a bit of a gamble to go for another place that had more of a restaurant-y vibe than a straight up pub, but from what I had seen of Bell Street's Old Cop Shop it was a bit of a combination of the two.
Mervin
This place has the best ribs in Melbourne! My gawd the sauce they put on it is unbelievable! Great ribs, great breakfasts and great coffee. Can't go wrong!
IloveMelbourne
Came here for a  work lunch last week.  I like the set up of the place with police memorabilia in every room. I had the main salt and pepper calamari. It was nice but the salad was over dressed and limp. I found the menu a bit limited and struggled to find anything else I would eat.
Diamond Nuts
Fresh water and clean glasses served on arrival. Ok is the best way to describe The Old Cop Shop. Beer was ok, first one delivered to the table had way too much head, second one fine third beer was forgotten about and had to be reordered. Meal was the main salt and pepper squid which was again ok, squid ok the accompanying green salad was better than ok, very fresh and dressed with a fresh made olive oil dressing. Would I go back? Probably not.

The renovation of a cop shop is a nice idea however I'm unsure they pull in a crowd. It might be the expensive nature of the menu or the layout of the restaurant, but either way it is a little off. I found the superfood salad to be delicious however the dressing was a littlw too sweet. The kale wasn't bitter and all the ingredients worked. I don't think it needed the vegan cheese that was dotted in the salad but just some food for thought.
Michy
Great what they have done with this place. Been here a couple of times. Great range on the menu for meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans. Every time I've been here it's been with a group of at least 15 of us and have always received great service. Can't fault the food. Love having this place locally. Wish the outside area was a bit bigger to cater for large groups, however, will definitely be back when we want a casual, laid back feed. They also make great coffees!
Sheemal Visun
Not too bad. I feel the menu could be improved and find some of the stuff on there a bit on the pricey side.<br/><br/>Their dessert menu is quite impressive. <br/><br/>Also they should consider adding more entree options on their menu. <br/><br/>Interior is quite nice and cosy. Great outdoor area as well. <br/><br/>

Went for early dinner and was told 4 dishes were not available which was a bummer as they were our preferences. My meal came out and when we followed up on the other one they realised they had missed it. Not a big deal- it happens. But instead of offering to discount the meal or give us a free drink as goodwill the guy behind the bar charged us double for one meal - again annoying but this happens and it was rectified when I pointed out the mistake. I get back to the table and realise that I'd been overcharged $5 for a drink but they apologised and refunded the money. Again very annoying. The meals were shoddy and the chicken parm was loaded with acidic tomato paste and no salad just greasy fries. My lamb was over cooked so there wasn't a hint of pink to be seen. Poor service is forgivable as the staff were apologetic but the way each mistake followed another was unprofessional and it felt like amateur hour. Perhaps the owners are on holiday and the staff don't have stock and can't run the restaurant effectively? This place will not survive in coburg with shoddy food- it's far too competitive. I've had some good experiences here a year ago and it's a shame as it has potential and character but this has sealed the deal for me not to return.
William Hasnever
I can see what they are trying to do here. sadly they are just off the mark. Nice food. Awesome service. Good selection of alcohol. It's all nice but just ....... blah. The server told me they are the "Press Club" of Coburg. Yeah right!?!?!?! The prices are very similar but the atmosphere is just .....off. It wouldn't take much to get it right here but for what they charge I'd rather make the trek to the city. Who knows. It's still finding it's feet so here's hoping they improve with time.

👍 Welcoming, friendly and efficient staff. The atmosphere, the history displayed throughout the restaurant. You can also go inside an old jail cell.<br/>👎The standard of food... the menu is inventive, the food is fresh but the execution of the dishes and the balance of flavours (sweet, salty etc) the texture of the gnocchi ... all missed the mark.<br/>🙂 Will I go back? Yes, in the new year to see if the kitchen has improved execution of dishes and balance.
Grace Buckley
Fantastic modern pub style food and lovely service. Worth the $$ for the food. Will definitely return!<br/>The Open souvlaki and pork belly were the winning dishes on our table. Will return to try the meat platter!
Anar Mir
Char grilled beef patty with Dijon Mustard, American red cheddar, pickles, mixed salad, tomato, onion jam, crispy bacon, chipotle mayo and served with a side of chips turned out with this spectacular piece of burger. <br/>Definitely lots of potential with this one lads, tweak about what you need and you'll get a solid burger to enjoy
The Lionking Diner
The Old Cop shop has stepped up a notch, its fast becoming my new local fave! A great addition to the nth suburbs, finally a decent wine list and a place where you can enjoy a great meal with a decent atmosphere... <br/><br/>Im looking forward to the beer garden in summer also

Been there twice now. The first time, an evening, I was impressed by the decor and service, and the deconstructed tiramisu for dessert was a clear highlight. Service was good considering it was busy, and pricing a little on the high side but ok. <br/><br/>The second time my partner and I went for breakfast. Coffee wasn't amazing, and sadly neither was the food. We normally have 3-4 coffees each over breakfast, but given speed and quality stopped at one. Despite being the only customers in there initially, service was kind of slow. The other bugbear was a huge gaggle of women being seated a table over who were so loud we couldn't even talk to each other, so given the emptiness of it, we asked to move. <br/><br/>Overall it's satisfactory food in a funky venue, but not outstanding.
Mary-mia Ioculano
Loved how they kept the theme of the old cop shop it's got great memories and photos and history of this place and the decor is tastefully done. The service was very attentive and friendly, The food was first class and fresh and tasty. large collection of wines and beers and other beverages. Has a lovely courtyard at the back and if you're bored it has a soccer table for little fun with drinks. Absolutely recommend will go again.

We've been meaning to visit The Old Cop Shop for ages and finally got there tonight. What a find! We had the most delicious meal, crispy skin barramundi wirh roast vegetables (best Barra we've had in years), followed by Bougatsa for dessert. I can't even begin to express how stunning this dessert was. The staff were really lovely, friendly and attentive and the wine list was excellent. It was pretty packed for a Saturday night, which was good to see!<br/>
Agatha Soccio
Lovely fitout and love the fact that are keeping something old alive. But unfortunately it's overpriced and the meals are very small. My chicken salad was an entree size and hardly any lettuce. Disappointing!
Chickinator
Have Driven past all the time since they opened finally decided to check it all out. Menu was not bad choice wise. Expensive though for the area. Food was nice though and so was Coffee. Located at the Former Coburg Police Station they have converted it into a restaurant and kept the old wooden floor. They also have gold plated plaques on the floor saying this is the Senior Sargeants Office this is the cib holding area and all the other places that were in the police station. There are also items on the walls from former Police Officers such as Ties and other things as well. Very interesting place to visit not only do you get to eat and drink you also get a History Lesson on what the former police station used to look like.
Micky
Tried the 'old cop shop burger'. Although theres nothing unique about this burger (lettuce tomato cheese etc...) it tastes damn good. A tasty and decent-sized meat patty cooked to medium rare. The serve of side chips are nothing special and the portion is way too small for what youre paying. If i included prices in my rating it would get a 3.0. LUCKY !!!
Christina
On a beautiful sunny day we were led out the back to eat in a depressing concrete hardly furnished back yard. The bfast menu was bland and to top it off no soya milk for coffee. Service was slow and pricing a bit high. Such a shame as I love heritage listed or restored buildings.
Heidi
Food was very average for the price! I don't mind paying when it's quality but when you can't finish a dish because it's tastes horrible ... That's hard to swallow!! The only positive thing to say is the service is great! Avoid if you can!!!
BrunchQueen
We were greeted with a friendly smile and the rest of the service was extremely friendly too. The food came out very fast and the coffee was delicious. 5/5 for amazing service and beautiful food
Magilla Gorilla
Went there for Mothers day with all the outlaws.  Food was terrifi.  Good variety on the menu and all turned up hot and delicious.  I especially liked the ribs and the sauce was yummy.  A great size meal at a good price.<br/>Service was also terrific and the big boy strutted the floor and made sure everyone was on top of their game.<br/>Would definitely recommend anytime
Aberdeen
I love it here! So good to finally have an excellent restaurant in coburg. The food is always delicious But service can be a bit slow/poor at times.. Never bad enough for me to not want to go back or to not recommend to others though.
Joe Carriera
A most wonderful dining experience. This restaurant was an old police station and after 10 years of being closed, it was extensively restored and converted to a beautiful eatery serving breakfast, lunch and dinner As soon as we stepped inside this little gem, we were in awe. We were warmly greeted, and seated. Lots and lots of detail throughout, lots of nostalgic police memorabilia to admire. We Loved the old sprinkler system conversion for the overhead lighting. We ordered the open lamb souvlaki and the pork ribs, they were absolutely delicious, cooked to perfection. For desert we shared a bougatza, best one ever..... Bill the owner introduced himself and offered us a tour of the holding cells which he has plans in the future to convert to private dining rooms areas. We are definitely going back soon.5 stars all round.
Michelle Coyle
My pasta- Pork Sausage & Fennel was amazing!<br/>Sadly I can't say the same about the service.<br/>Great venue... Improve the service & I'm sure it will be fantastic @
SpaghettiCarrot
If it wasn't for the clever chef in the kitchen this place would be boring... Beautifully presented and great tasting food is what is on offer here - that's it. Poor service and lack of attention to detail is unfortunately a reoccurring theme. I'm not even going to mention the 'Cop Shop' theme/venue as it shouldn't be a draw card.
Taner Dalyan Cagin
Tried this new place for breakfast the other day, and it wasn't a bad experience. The interior design is very eye catching and warm. The service was a little slow, and our food arrived way too late after our coffees which was a downfall. However the food was nice, complimenting the pancakes with cream, salted caramel and caramelised pear was a tasty combination! Apart from the slow service, it was a good experience.
Laura Wall
Had a delicious brunch at the Old Cop Shop this morning.  It was raining outside but the atmosphere was warm and friendly inside. The staff were efficient and the food served promptly.   Coffee was great too.  Well done Old Cop Shop - we'll be back.  Regards LAW
QC
Had brunch here; great quality food and decent portions too. The wait for food could improve as we were often waiting a while. They could probably also use more wait staff. Otherwise the atmosphere in the place was great and the food was great. Decent prices for good food.

Just had brunch at The Old Cop Shop in Coburg. I really wanted to like this place as its close to my family. The decor was pleasant and the had some very nice Cop Shop memorabilia. The menu read well and the meals looked great when they arrived two of them failed to deliver on flavour. The BLAT was apparently delicious. My calamari was cooked well but was served with a very uninspiring aioli. The Big breakfast was big, but once again lacked seasoning and flavour. The waiter seemed new and couldn't tell the difference between a latte and a long black. Old Cop Shop please find some flavour so we can make this our new go to place.
Dave Ryan
Absolutely brilliant! Our favourite place to go out around the coburg Brunswick area. The eye fillet steak is one of the best I have ever had and is well up there with the likes of cutler and co.<br/>Staff are always friendly and the wine is alway tasty.
Ihatefood
Great work they've done to this place with a clean fresh approach while paying homage to the original buildings inhabitants.<br/>The staff were excellent, friendly and didn't hover over us.<br/>You can see the holding cells out the back which is a fun novilty.<br/>The food was top notch, aged rib eye was worth every dollar, ask for medium rare, cooked perfectly, my friends had the pasta dishes and they said they were great. The wine list was good and matched up with the dishes. I had the pinot on the night it was lush. And for the dessert, have the chochlate tart, its amazing!<br/>A great experience all round.<br/>Seems there is a contrast between brunch and dinner from some other reviews. I've not had brunch there yet (we will soon) but I definitely recommend going there for dinner.<br/>Keep up the good work Cop Shop, with the amount of hipster brunch places claiming to be unique this is a fresh modern approach in the area, paired with the buildings historty this place is great for Coburg's needs.

I have been twice to this lovely refurbished old police station. Lunch and dinner were superb. Food was plentiful and staff were very friendly and attentive!
Sonja
I haven been wanting to check this place out for ages, finally made it there for brekky today; nice fit out but a little bland, although the police memorabilia is a nice touch. <br/>Everyone was very friendly, great service.<br/>Coffee was ok, my partner had the corn fritters which were very tasty and I had the smashed avocado, which I didn't really like, too much lemon thru it and the feta was also too acidic, should have used Meredith or Persian instead of Greek.<br/>Prob won't be back for brekky, maybe dinner there is better....
Ally
Outstanding service <br/>Food presentation is amazing<br/>Service is very efficient.<br/>Sat outside in the alfresco area and the the service was fast and efficient. Would highly recommend the lamb salad and the bougsta, looking forward to going for brunch in the coming weeks
Jojo
Had dinner on Saturday and had the rib eye that was cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth ... Would highly recommend the old cop shop to anyone, the staff were friendly, efficient and the venue was clean.. Will definitely being going back. great to have somewhere in coburg that is vibrant, hip and worth every cent

First visit today for brunch and it was fine.  Nice fit-out, staff were okay, food was okay, but nothing adventurous on the menu and nothing noteworthy on the plate. Food took just a little long given the simplicity of the menu.  I would go back if invited by a friend but wouldn't suggest it a a venue.  Try for your self.  Could be a good option for a large group as venue that can take 8+ are had to find in Coburg.

What have they done? It's a great idea to preserve an old pub, but how un-fun can you be about it! Unfortunately, I can't see this venue surviving much longer; Coburg is gentrifying and this place shows too little of its local roots and shows no future-proofed hipness.<br/><br/>The set-up would maybe suit the southern suburbs, but more closely resembles a country venue. This gorgeous building has been gutted, replaced with bogan pub chair and filled with uniformed girls. The style isn't northern suburbs. They don't have their own style, and they don't seem aware of the standards set by their neighbouring establishments.<br/><br/>Ffs, they serve eggs Benedict—the cafe marker of no identity.<br/><br/>I feel mean for writing this because it's clear that someone has tried to revive this building. Good on them for having the dream and the funds to follow it, but they're just not aware of the standards set by the market.

we booked for a special occasion for dinner for 5 people. looked lovely as we walked in. sat down and ordered first drinks. waitress spilt 2 scooners, 2 wines and and apple juice all over us whilst glass smashed everywhere. we were promised drinks and dessert and coffees  would be free.  after checking the bill at the end, only 2 coffees and 4 liquor shots were free. not happy considering it would have cost more for dry cleaning of all of our clothes, new ipad cover and new hand bag with contents which were drenched in alcohol and glass!!!!  where are your principles!!!! was quite disgusted after seeing the bill.

This was our first visit to a cafe in an area we know well. Fantastic renovation! As a large group we had no problems ordering and receiving drinks and food. The meals were delicious and very well presented. Highly recommended and we hope to be back again!

Beautiful ambience; casual, relaxed with plenty of great history to soak up. Food is Beautiful and lovely couple who own the place to chat to. Been several times now and can't wait to go back and it's local (yeah)

Wow was the first word that came to me when I walked in the old cop shop in Coburg. Beautifully renovated whilst keeping the theme of the original police station. Wife and I have been here on a number of occasions for breakfast, lunch & dinner and have enjoyed every meal.<br/>Last visit was Saturday night, place was very busy and had a great comfortable & inviting feel. Staff all very attentive and very friendly. In fact after dinner one of the owners invited us on a tour of the old cells out back which I understand will be turned into private dining rooms, can't wait for that. He told us the history behind the cop shop and a couple of ghost stories. He was Very entertaining I must say.<br/>I had the ribeye which melted in my mouth and the wife had the best burger she has ever eaten.<br/>The Old Cop Shop is a 10/10 for us.<br/>Do yourself a favour and check it out, you won't be disappointed.<br/>

Great service here. Have been a few times for brunch, and dinner. Food is very good, there are great vegetarian and a vegan option for dinner. The coffee is also good. Love the atmosphere and the hints of the building's other life.

After waiting 20 minutes for someone to take our order my hopes were not high, however the food made up for it. <br/>Between us we had zucchini fritters with bacon and avocado smash with egg. Firstly, zucchini fritters- a little soggy, needed to be thinner so as to crisp them up a little, the poached egg was not runny with was the biggest let down, however the serving size reasonible for the price.<br/>Smashed avocado was full of flavour, seasoned with sumac, the bread was too thick. I'm talking about 3cm thick, which wouldn't be a problem apart from the fact the centre was cold because of it. <br/>My other big problem is when cafes don't serve large coffees, just go and buy a bigger mug because I'm not buying two.

I love what they've done to the place particularly as it is part of "my hood". Great ambience with intriguing things to explore around the place. Much of the menu is pretty stock standard, but it's good nevertheless. So dishes are slightly different which will get us back there again. Service is good too.

I have been to the Old Cop shop 3 times for dinner in the past 4-5 weeks. It does look amazing and love the plaques on the floor BUT it was extremely noisy on all 3 occasions- I think due to the fact that there are no soft furnishings to absorb the noise. Something needs to be done.<br/><br/>I have had the beef cheeks twice and loved them both times so highly recommend them. I had the steak once and had to send it back as it was rare (almost blue) when I requested medium. Wouldn't rush back to have the steak.<br/><br/>Last time I went with 5 other people. 3 of us enjoyed our meals (beef cheeks and spaghetti puttanesca) but unfortunately the other 3 weren't overly impressed with their food - chicken was dry, calamari had a strange texture about it and the burger was salty.<br/><br/>Staff are very friendly and attentive and service was very efficient.

The Old Cop Shop has had a great reno and has a largo outdoor area too - which will be great in summer! I haven't had any food but did have a great coffee this morning! No bitterness and the perfect temperature. Big thanks to the welcoming and super friendly Ajay for a great start to my Sunday! Will definitely be back to see you again!

Has breakfast this morning with the girls. All 5 breakfast were bland and coffees were very weak and luke warm. Would I go back. NO! Very disappointed as we were looking forward to it

This place was absolutely lovely. Despite being totally packed, they didn't mind me and my friend only ordering olives, drinking wine and playing scrabble for over two hours. The wine was delicious and not super pricey, as you'd expect. The service was friendly without being intrusive, prompt and polite. Though we didn't eat much, guessing by other people's plates and how quickly they finished them, the food was delicious (it smelt that way). It looks posh-and it is, a little-but it's Coburg posh and fits right in.<br/>In would highly recommend.

Great little local restaurant, went for dinner with my partner, food was delicious and the very friendly staff were always happy to service us. Will definitely go back!

I went in for a quick hot chocolate and a dessert with my son after soccer on a Wednesday night. 40 minutes later...<br/>The service isn't great, our drinks were luke warm; like they had been made 20 minutes prior to us getting them. The dessert was good but not good enough considering the wait. <br/>A friend convinced me to try it again, because she wanted to check it out. An hour and 10 minute wait for heavy, oily, carbonara. All this and it wasn't cheap either. Disappointing, I won't be back.

I have only been here for brunch so far and I will definitely be going back to try more food. I had a ricotta hot cakes which were great! It looked beautiful on the plate and a good portion too. I also had a hot chocolate which was really good. The interior is really nice and the staff are lovely.

Heard that they had turned the old cop shop into a cafe and was keen to check out this café. Staff were friendly upon arrival. I selected the Ricotta hotcakes. It seemed an intriguing from the description of chocolate soil , salted caramel and honeycomb in the description. It looked impressive as a dish in front of me. Taste wise though I wasn't at all taken by it. Coffee was ok. Two of my family members had the corn fritters and said that they were over cooked to the point that all they could taste was the burnt taste from frying them too long. I guess they could've asked for it to be redone but they had finished half their meal upon the discovery. It worked out with breakfast and coffee between the four of us $22.5 per head. Would I come back? Probably not.

Dinner menu was great, drinks list covered everyone i was dining with. Slow cooked lamb was fabulous and the staff was very friendly. Will definitely be going back.

16-AUG-15 : It's nice to finally have a nice venue like this in Coburg for brunch. The staff were efficient and friendly. Love the outdoor area which was big. <br/>The coffee is nice and strong which is a good start. I had the big breakfast with poached eggs, bacon, pork and fennel sausage, button mushrooms, spinach and baked beans which was nice and filling. My friend had the Eggs Benedict which included bacon. Will be back to try their lunch and dinner menu.

Great refurbishment, friendly and professional staff, breakfast food was dissapointing. Corn fritters were mushy, like how mine turn our at home, not light, crispy and cooked on the inside like they should be. They also left a bitter taste and I couldn't finish them. The toast was doughy (which was weird) and the scrambled eggs were a bit watery. Bacon was nice. We let the staff know and they did not charge us for one coffee. I'll let you decide if that seem like the right way to manage it.

Dined here for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. I made the booking as I am keen to support my local area, and we are desperate for a couple of new, nice restaurants in Coburg. At first glance I didn't think that the menu was very exciting, but the meals were all very nice. I dined with a group of 8 and no one was disappointed with their order. The food was nicely presented, generous servings and very tasty. We look forward to returning!

The Old Cop Shop is literally that, an Old Police Station in Coburg that has been transformed into a restaurant and beer garden. We went during opening week and enjoyed our overall dining experience. We started off with the saganaki before the mushroom Papardelle which was cooked al Dante. The Beef Cheeks main just melted with every mouth full! The heirloom carrots added a vibrant colour to the superb Beef Cheek main. We ended with some traditional Greek 'Bougatsa' (fluff pastry filled with warm custard) and the delicious Chocolate tart with a hint of Frangelico. A broad menu worth a try!!! #thosemelbournianfoodies

As soon as I walked in there was a lovely waitress that greeted me with a smile. I had the zucchini and corn fritter for breakfast and a latte. The breakfast was very delicious and the plate was dished up nice (better then the photo I've posted). The coffee was a bit strong for my liking but it was good. The interior of the cafe was more why I came in here and I am impressed there's donated pieces from the old police station hanging in frames on the wall so it's interesting to have a look at. The staff were all friendly and attentive, definitely recommend it!
I Just Love Good Food
Go to coburg every week and would consider myself almost a local. This place is a huge welcome by locals by transforming old abadoned cop station to a cafe! We got seats where old sergeant detective's office was, and the waitress was very attentive. Two plates of calamari for entree, we thought that was a big of a rip off as the portion was small for the price. Lucky the fish and chips, old cop shop burger, rib eye steak and big breakfast for mains were all delicious. Would be returning for more!
George Eats A Lot
The cop shop recently opened and living in Coburg I had to give it a go. It was so different to what I expected. It was quite a surprise to find the superb interior renovation in respect to the buildings history. From memorabilia including photos and personal items of previous employees, I was fascinated by the way they had outlined the old floor plan of the building. This was achieved by using different coloured timber flooring with brass plates naming the use of the room. On top of the bar there is a great collection of police hats from around the world. My favourite being the English Bobby's helmet!<br/>Now why was I back there for? The food.<br/>I had the 300 gram rib eye with onion jam, garlic Rosemary potatoes and broccoli I with mushroom sauce rare. It was cooked to perfection and I had to refrain from licking the plate.<br/>For entree I shared the Parppardelle Al Funghi with the wife! Big mistake I can only describe it as an orgasm of the mouth and we fought for every last fork full! Next time I'm ordering this on its own.<br/>We finished up with Bougatsa desert. This was big enough for the two of us to share. Normally Bougatsa is very sweet and difficult to eat a lot of, but this was infused with lemon that helped cut through the sweetness.<br/>All in all a great place to eat in Coburg without having to go to all the usual suburbs like Carlton or Fitzroy where you need a bus ticket once you park your car to get to the restaurant. <br/>I reckon in summer their beer garden will be the place to be once the weather warms up!<br/>Love it can't wait to try other items on the menu if I can get past the mushroom pappardelle! Lol

Beautifully renovated police station into a gorgeous local Eatery, enjoyed lunch and dinner. Service was attentive and seating most comfortable. <br/>Have tried an array of dishes. The calamari were tender and crispy, the Pappardelle Funghi divine and flavourful. The Rib eye steak cooked to perfection and the Trio of bruschetta fresh and delicious. <br/>Returned today for lunch and the restaurant has a large table that catered for our group of 8 very comfortably. The children's meal was brought out quickly and staff very happily responded to any extra requests. The oxtail ragu pasta was slow cooked and delicious. My partners burger was a generous size and filled with fresh ingredients that were both tasty and very substantial. The potatoes that come with the burger were beautifully roasted with garlic. Look forward to returning soon

Came in for dinner without a booking on a Friday night and the place was busy but we were able to get a table for two right away just in front of the bar. Some through traffic from staff from the kitchen, but in fact, probably a better place to sit if you wanted to talk as the booth tables further in seemed a bit close together.<br/>Food was pretty middle of the road in terms of choice, but everything we ordered was fresh, hot and of good quality. Servings were generous (although the tide seemed to be out on wine pours) and service was attentive but not intrusive.

The service was courteous and the atmosphere was  quite good.I thought the menu was limited on all fronts. In particular  I was disappointed that the range of ways the eggs were done was very limited.(eggs benedict only on muffins) .Although it was possible to add whatever you wanted  If you added two  basic items it would add on average $7.00. If I'd added bacon roast tomatoe, and hollandaise it would have cost me $24.00.For that reason.I don't think the menu is very well planned. It is really expensive. One half of an eggcup of hollandaise sauce cost $4.00.If you want to have just a cup of coffee it is probably good for that.

Worst service ever. Went in for a bite to eat at 2.30pm and was told the kitchen was closed from 3-6pm. Decided we would stay for a drink but were ignored by 5 waiting staff for about half an hour before we decided to leave. Told the waiter we were unhappy but he didn't apologise. Rubbish beer offering anyway. Don't waste your time.
