Review The Generator Urban Eatery - Coburg

André Eiermann
Wow! We found this cute little café by coincidence while driving through Coburg in the north of Melbourne. I very much liked the authentic interior design. The food offer is out of this world, I would have never expected to find this. So many different sweets and savory treats. The food presentation is truly amazing and you can find many bakery and cook books 📖. The staff was super friendly, welcoming and charming. They perfectly fit the café and spread positive vibes only. Even all the customers were very friendly and in a very good mood. No wonder when you see what they grabbed to start their days. A true little jewel ❤️.

What an interesting place we've stumbled into. The interior is eclectic and we're really spoilt for choice (there are so many types of burgers/wraps/sandwiches on display plus more options from the menu). The coffee was great too. Oh, they also sell lots of different type of candies One of the few places where the staff are really kind and genuine.

Absolutely amazing range of case items. If you want something on bread...they have it. Chicken and avo panini was really nice, seasoning on the chicken crumb could have been a little stronger but very enjoyable nonetheless. Love the vibe here. Such a relaxing place to sit with a coffee. I've just moved to the area and definitely think I've found my regulator haunt. *edit* The Okinomiyake Brioche is also bangin' 👌 *edit* Pumpkin tart is really bland guys. Love you but plz season it

This place is a must visit I would say. The quantity they give is literally a plateful. The food was full of variety of flavors. The place is small but amazing staff and vintage decor makes you feel nice

Firstly I want to talk about the establishment, definitely different, quirky and a vibe, staff are friendly and accommodating, for me in my experience that's where it ended. I didn't order much but what with what I did order I wasn't impressed. I ordered a coffee which seemed very weak with milk overly heated to point it had funny taste, also orderd a bacon and egg muffin, now the total cost of this set me back $15, the muffin was pre-made and not even fresh, was put in a press and Luke warm in the middle and eggs and bacon where chewey, now for 9$ for a small muffin I expect BETTER the price I paid was crazy. I think the prices in general for pre made food is way to high. I really didn't enjoy my experience, I see it has potential but I'm not prepared to waste that kind of money and be disappointed sorry....

I was extremely impressed with this cafe for a number of reasons. Firstly the decor was amazing. It was chic and extremely warm and welcoming. The food itself was beautifully presented and decliously prepared. Lastly the owner Daniel and his staff were all very attentive and ensured I was well taken care of. Highly recommend checking out this hidden gem. I'll definitely be back again.

Reliably, the best coffee in the area. Lovely, quirky decor. Excellent food. Great gluten free options. They try hard and it shows. Opens early. An oasis. Inventive menu. Eat in or take away. Lots of outdoor seating. Park in a side street. Range of table sizes. Good for groups. Smoking area in side street. Covid safe procedures. Definitely worth a visit.

What a cute little find this was!! Fantastic service, coffee was some of the best I’ve ever had, food came out pretty fast and my gosh the best tomato relish I’ve ever had!!! I’ll definitely be going back for the cauliflower fritters next time.

My work team had our end of year breakfast here today. A lovely cafe with friendly staff, good coffee and very generous portions!

One of the best brunchs we have had in a while. Everything was delicious we had kids pancakes, generator smash, and a few build your own breakfasts. the staff were friendly and upbeat. Kids menu that they can colour in was a nice touch. Generator urban are doing brunch right 👌 will definetely be back

Enough chances, won’t be back. Papers are days old. Requested an omission on a dish & told “oh yeah so many of our customers can’t eat that” yet it’s right through everything. Menu description didn’t reflect what I received & had to go up to the counter to order as I’d been forgotten. Really wished I’d just left. Seriously guys you need to pick up your game in all respects.

Great cafe with nice selection of burgers, wraps and sweets at the counter as well as their classic menu options. Their drinks have never disappointed and their service is very friendly.

Absolute gem hidden away in cono! Great coffee and brunch selection, their sandwiches / panini are unreal. So hard to choose . Happy I found this place it's my go to for breakfast and lunch now

The Bacon Potato cake was the most delicious brunch I have ever had. Staff were also super friendly and the service was quick. Would definitely recommend this place!

If I was Jerry Seinfeld, this cafe would be #1 on my speed dial!<br/>Lovely welcoming staff, wonderful food and cosy atmosphere to enjoy a relaxing morning break from the real world. <br/>Well done on creating such a lovely cafe for everyone to enjoy!

3.5/5 ... Where's that half rating Zomato <br/><br/>I just ... "Can't get you out of my head ..."<br/><br/>I'm NOT referring to the latte and Choc Brownie ... more to the dance moves to this Kylie's classic by the guys in the cafe ... very entertaining. Always great to see guys enjoying their work, from the counter boy to the chef in the kitchen.<br/><br/>Latte is okay 6/10, Choc Brownie is well made, gooey and memorable 8/10 ... what's impressive is their display cabinet filled to the brim with ready made stuff ... just a lot of food everywhere, so I know where to go to pick up some goodies when I'm short of time.<br/><br/>Corner block cafe, a bit of effort to find it, worth the find. Lots of going on with its interior too ... set up as a tribute to Broadway with it's memorabilias on display; stage spotlights, Broadway classic light bulb signage, etc... and yes, I can't get it out of my head. Glad I stumbled across this cafe this morning. Talk about a great place for delicious, delicate and moderate portions of food. Service here was exceptional from the moment I walked in. The ladies were friendly and welcoming with a bright smile on their faces. Couldn't honestly decide on what to eat as their was so much dishes to chose from, each dish looked appealing. I settled for the fritters with smoked Salmon, topped with poached eggs. The eggs were poached perfectly with the insides still runny and the fritters were light, crunchy and fluffy. My only criticism would be to lay off with the amount of rocket on the dish. Seating is warm and relaxing with ample space, the decor is vibrant and serene.<br/><br/>Coffee was also good. Consistency seemed a bit on the watery edge, however it still was tasteful. Shall be back for more in the foreseeable future.! 😀

Stumbled upon this place and are so glad we did. Funky comfortable decor with great food and coffee. Very generous servings so make sure you're hungry. I had the ricotta pancakes and they were tops. Don't hesitate.

Had the bacon potato cakes- yum!! Probably doesn't need to come with eggs as it is quite a big meal. Friend had the poached eggs which were sliiiiightly over cooked but she said they were still delish. Would definitely go back!

This is our local favourite! We've been several times on the weekends and it has never failed. The food portions are gigantic, so come with an empty tummy! Worth every penny you spend. The smoothies are a must have and we've tried most of their items on the menu, all delicious!

Our go to in the area - Great food, generous servings and incredibly friendly staff - it's always a pleasure to visit and we love coming back.

Was in the neighbourhood and looked around for somewhere to have some brunch. Service was friendly and fast, coffee came very quickly but food a lot longer. Had the Generator Smash, food tasted fine but was served in a little bowl on top of a plate, stacked. The potato and bacon hash would have been nicer served separately on the plate, as the avocado took away some of the crispness and heat from the hash. Decor is cute and quirky, but like with my food there's perhaps a bit too much of a good thing crammed into a little space.

Went here a few weeks ago, had the waffles which were pretty good. Not much in the vegetarian category which is disappointing. My boyfriend had the burger and asked to remove some stuff but it came with it anyway and had to have it taken out. The food was good, but not the best place in the area.

been here twice now, just wanted to say wow! im so happy this cafe is around the corner from my work! i was always hesitant to go in and i didn't expect it to be soo good!<br/> seriously great atmosphere very relaxing! the staff are the highlight you can tell the owner is committed to good service and takes pride in his business which i find to be the most important thing!<br/>i dont ever write reviews but i also work in the food industry and know how rare it is to get good feedback and this was so good i just had to! would recommend everyone try the chicken and bacon club with french fries it was to die for!!and if owners/staff read this! WOWww just wow!!!!  keep up the great work!

I went here today with a mate. The coffee was good, and I tried a burger which was great. My mate had a salad which he enjoyed and the service was friendly and efficient. <br/><br/>

Chill cafe in Coburgs industrial area. Friendly staff. Hot and tasty coffee. The menu is unlike most other cafes but the potato mash and bacon croquettes were AMAZING. Menu slightly overpriced.

Good for kids in small numbers. Food satisfies me (fussy) and hubby (would be just as happy at Maccas). It's a great place if you love bacon and espresso. Great service- consistently the same staff and they are really helpful.

I stopped here for lunch and the staff were friendly and efficient. I had a meatball pan ini, which was delicious and cappuccino ( again very good) Interesting flaky washboard decor. Highly recommended

I had the potato cakes, and they were very delicious. Generous serving too. The coffee was good as well. <br/><br/>I came back a second time, and had the sausage roll for lunch. I found this to be less impressive.<br/><br/>But overall a positive experience, and I'd happily return.

Alice Tudehope & I dropped on this little place for a Sunday lunch. Coffee was good as was my open steak sandwich. And they were most attentive to the dog! We will be back.

We live very close to The Generator but had not tried it until now. All of the staff were amazing. Food was made with love and was a generous serve. We had the eggs bene. The coffee was also great. It's dog friendly so that is a bonus. Aside from being in an industrial area - if you are a local it is absolutely worth making this place your regular.

Amazing food, great service but unfortunately not the best coffee. Perhaps swap to supreme or all press. I would def come again but maybe order a juice. I'm really hoping they improve on coffee.

Best hot chocolate I have ever had! It was lovely and hot and so chocolatey. I also had the berry home made waffles with a hot jam donut on top. It was amazing, good portion size and great presentation too. The staff are so friendly and helpful. It may be a small cafe and it was super busy at the time, but the staff found a place to sit for every group/couple that walked in. I will definitely be back.

Overall experience wasn't joyful, burnt and tasteless omelette (brought out twice and still burnt). And coffees were cold.. wouldn't go back unfortunately

Delicious food every time we eat here! Fantastic service! I was going to take a photo of my food but couldn't wait to get stuck into it. Good sized meals with taste that packs a punch. 10/10!

Great cafe. Highly recommended.. I love this cafe, I've been a few times now and have never been disappointed. Went yesterday with a group of thirteen for Mother's Day brunch, I was a bit concerned that they may not be able to handle a large group on such a busy day, but I needn't have worried, there's nothing slap dash about this place, the staff is friendly and attentive, the food delicious and very well presented. Great breakfast menu with lots to choose from, the outstanding favourites for us were The Generator Hangover and the Bacon Potato Cakes the homemade baked beans and hash browns were also a hit. If you want a cafe that offers excellent food at very reasonable prices , together with warm and friendly service, well this cafe is for you. Very well done!

I'm reluctant to review this awesome new local in case it becomes standing room only! The staff have customer service nailed - so friendly, and the food was great. We had 3 different breaky options and all loved our meals. Generous portion sizes. Delicious gluten free options. Will definitely be back.

I absolutely love this new cafe!!! The owners are so friendly, service is excellent! Fantastic coffee & the food is sooo yummy; generous portions & reasonably priced. I can't wait to return - well done boys!!

I'm so excited about this new addition to Coburg North! The area is up and coming, so it's lacking good cafes and coffee. But Generator is of the calibre of the better cafes in suburbs like Fitzroy and Brunswick. The bacon potato cakes were delicious, crispy outer and fluffy inside, with a tasty hollandaise that wasn't too rich. Perfectly poached eggs to accompany. Also great coffee and love the interior. This will definitely become a weekend favorite!

Best breakfast in North Coburg. We've been living in Coburg North for 2 years now. With a small number of weekday-lunch basic tuck shop eateries around we'd gotten pretty used to going elsewhere for a good weekend brekky. All that's changed with the Generator though. <br/><br/>Popped in on opening week and had some crispy bacon potato cakes with poached eggs and hollandaise. Partner had scrambled eggs with home made baked beans. <br/><br/>My potato cakes were crispy with plenty of bacon. The eggs were perfectly cooked with plenty of hollandaise. Apparently the scrambled eggs were pretty good too with the homemade beans being a highlight.<br/><br/>Great coffee and friendly staff too. We've got a new favourite in our neighbourhood!
