Review Australian Seafood Fish & Chippery - Coburg

Rajina Sujanthan
Super delicious fresh seafood. The service was great too. Really enjoyed the whiting, rice and salad, calamari and grilled prawns. Would probably give the crab a miss because it was hard to eat at a restaurant.
Paolo
Restaurant with clearly marine colors, tables not exactly clean but acceptable, the background music is quite pleasant. The salmon was really good while the fish flake was not that tasty. The portions are generous and the value for money is good. Really nice staff.

One of the places I missed a lot when I was overseas. I am back in Melbourne now for 10 days and have eaten four times at Blu. Great quality, big portions for a bargain price. Very friendly stuff as well. Thanks for everything guys!

Great food beautiful service well presented was very busy at 7pm Saturday night but person behind the till was very patient with me to taking my order he recommended when I ask the calamari ,he bring us the lightly fried very nice also the Greek salad fresh ...

My local seafood restaurant I am never disappointed when I come and eat here, depending on what you get my meals always arrive at my table 10/10 šŸ˜‹ if you ever drive by this place come in and give them a try just a heads up they can be busy at times so don't get discouraged.

Amazing seafood place, highly recommended if you want to try quality seafood. Friendly staff r

Used to be much better. Staff and service are still amazing. Really nice and friendly staff. Fish quality and taste is not up to expectations. Have been there about a month ago, wasn't impressed. I had another visit last 2 weeks ago, no change.

The Lobster Burger is absolutely mind blowing at Blu. Arguably the best seafood joint in all of Melbourne. Usually good with a side of Wedges with Sour Cream.

BEWARE NOT HALAL OR VEGETARIAN !
I have contacted asking if they are halal and answer was yes. I then asked is EVERYTHING halal she said yes. When asked what brand are your spring rolls she advised they were not halal but they had no pork. I proceeded to tell her just because it does not contain pork then it doesn't make it halal. I asked are you cooking it in the same oil as everything else. She said yes. So I said thats cross contamination. Whatever was halal is now not classified as halal any longer as its been mixed with all the food that is not halal. She then had the nerve to say 'well if you open up a fish and chip shop in the future you can do that!' That is absolutely Disgusting and disrespectful comment. Shows they are only after sales and will do whatever they can for a quick buck which includes lying. Very unhappy.

Really tasty fresh fish and seafood available. Cooked to perfection either grilled or crunchy not oily batter and can be served with delicious crunchy chips or fresh house made gourmet salads.

The popular spot for fish and chips in Coburg.
There is always a que for fish and chips here. They have a nice and spacious seating area in the cafe and an array of fresh seafood on the display window at the front

Came here to get takeaway and we ordered and pack for two and added more fish and seafood. Really enjoyed our meal, the fish was cooked in a very nice and light batter.

Highly recommend those fish and chips, they are definitely amazing.

Blu has amazing seafood and is a very busy restaurant that is children friendly so can get very busy and noisy but the food is so delicious and fresh! I enjoyed the barramundi, rice and salad - very simple but very delicious! I will definitely recommend this place āœ…

Love love love this place! Super fresh seafood that you can take home and cook. They also cook food on site. Best fish and chips I have had in Melbourne so far. I look forward to going back and trying more :).
Hadi Mahmoud
This place makes a killer barramundi. Love the freshness of the fish. The chips were ok but could do with more seasoning. The experience was pretty cool they were super busy but I must say the staff werent as friendly as I had hoped. They seemed very stressed (probably due to being really busy) but didnt really smile. I'd go back just to have the barramundi again. Yum
BD Food Adventures
Food is really nice - the seafood is fresh, and everything tastes freshly cooked. There is a lack of available parking around the establishment so it may be difficult around peak times
George Crook
I paid $14.50 for this pack, asked for extra chips in lue of salad, and this is the portion size I received.Ā A small handfull of chips for nearly $15, rip off.
Michael Garzia
Fresh, delicious fish which can easily find its way into your diet or health kick.

Amazing amazing fish and sides. Ordered a fried barramundi combo while my friend ordered a fried flake combo which some potato cakes. Needless to say, it was super generous and THE BEST POTATO CAKES IVE EVER EATEN.
The register assistant didnā€™t look like she wanted to be there and the other staff looked unhappy but thankfully, the food did not reflect that one bit.
Compared to other fish and chip places, this has to be one of the best ones Iā€™ve been to and will most definitely come back.

Highly recommend for quality fish and chips šŸ˜
Desisean
Love this place! Great selection of seafood served in a cafe style restaurant. We had the cray tail and swordfish. It was yummy and we will def be back! My only complaint is that the chips arenā€™t nice. They should consider serving French fries with a flavoured salt of some sort or just cooking the existing chips much longer so they are crispy. For $4, I wouldnā€™t order a side of chips again.
Bambina
i travel half way across town to feast on the quality fresh fish and salads big serves plenty of options to cater for everyone's needs, casual place
Flo
Best fish and chips youā€™ll get anywhere in Melbourne and I am FIRM in that.
Iā€™ve been multiple times and refuse to go to any other dine-in fish and chip restaurant. The marinated prawns are a standout

Have lots of varieties deals on the board. The staff was not really helpful. So went to have the snapper. Nice and crunchy. The price was alright. Had to pay extra for sauce.

DISGUSTING. Feeling nauseous after my experience here tonight, standing waiting for my takeaway order I observed a staff member in the kitchen shovelling, and that's the only way to describe it, food into his mouth with his fingers, having dipped whatever it was he was eating in some sort of sauce while talking to another member of staff. I was hoping he would gather up whatever he was eating and take it to a more appropriate place to eat it, assuming/hoping he was on a break, but to my absolute disgust he wiped his hands on his clothes and proceeded to place food on the grill! Having worked in hospitality myself I could not believe the obvious breach of the most basic food handling laws. I asked to see a manager and explained what I had seen. The manager approached the staff member who denied what I had seen, because, yeah I head out on a rainy Melbourne night to accuse people of things they haven't done. The manager said he would check the video to see if it had happened...OK, whatever. This would have been a sackable offence even when I worked at Hungry Jacks as a teenager. The food was OK, not great, definitely won't be back.

The seafood here is without doubt up there with the best in Melbourne. The freshness is superb, take for example the blue eye, which is superior to many hatted restaurants. Definitely not a fine dining experience, and a fair trip from the inner east, but if you want a relaxed dinner with quality food, this place is worth trying. Great calamari, prawn skewers, delicious scallops, amongst other things. Must visit place.
David
Truly an asset to Coburg. Probably the best fish & chips I have had.Ā
Also so fresh, and cooked to perfection. Have eaten here many times, as I am a local, and I have never had a a terrible experience.
Stace Bianca Lenthall
Based on the fantastic reviews and just how beautiful the building is, I've been really wanting to check this place out for quite some time. Definitely wasn't the best fish and chips. The selection of seafood looked great but both myself and my collegues lunch was so overcooked and dry it was a terrible waste. The servings were huge tho! I had the whitebait and it was just like eating bits of cardboard with bone. I had to leave so much behind, it was just too dry for consumption. I also wanted a salad however they looked really old and uninviting. On a positive the lady who served us was lovely and they have a stunning aquarium. If I lived in Coburg, I'd give them another go but definitely would not travel to eat here again. Very disappointed.
Sam Melbourne
One of the best Greek restaurants in the Western suburbs. The seafood is typically fresh, thanks to their high turnover. But donā€™t neglect their souvlaki. Itā€™s delicious too. The restaurant is always busy including people walk in for takeaways.
Renee Mihulka
I would give Blu five stars if their chips were better because honestly, everything else is fabulous. The fish is always fresh, the salads too, the calamari and salt and pepper squid are amazing and the portion sizes for the price are very good. Itā€™s just the chips. They arenā€™t bad, they are just ... meh. Bland. And although my family and I eat at Blu often, (the kids pack will feed two under 10) itā€™s not the place I would go to for some hot chips like I would other fish and chips shops. Fix the chip and itā€™s five stars all the way!
Vend1010
The Lobster burger was awesome! Overall the seafood was fresh and the decor and staff were friendly and inviting. Will definitely visit again the next time weā€™re in the area
Halal Food Melbourne
We LOVE this eatery. Not a typical fish and chip shop. Fish is always fresh. Staff are always friendly. Generous seafood options at a good price. Seating is good and the location is relatively central and super accessible. Donā€™t have a bad thing to say to be honest!
Saza_Lives_To_Eat
Fantastic place but so busy and hard to get a table if your a larger group. Meals are huge so order less than you think youā€™ll need. We took home heaps as we over ordered. Grilled fish and salad is the way to go! Comes out hot and fresh, will definitely be back
La Fi
The food deserves 5 stars. Delicious fish and seafood, the salads are really good, they have chips (nice and golden) or brown rice. Only giving 4 stars as on a Saturday we waited way more than an hour and on a normal weeknight 45 minutes for simple fish and chips. As it's noisy and there is no table service it's not very pleasant to wait there. The waiter explained to us that it's normal to wait that long in a restaurant, sorry but the name is literally fish & chippery and in a restaurant I don't have to line up to order food or drinks. We will go again but only for take away or at 3pm when it would hopefully be empty.
Phoebe Johnston
This is very affordable but awesome tasting fish and chips spot! The seafood here and the fresh fish really taste good and fresh. The portion of the chips was super huge.Ā The freshest fish and chip shop in the northern suburbs if not Melbourne. The service is good. The prices are reasonable. The place has a good fit out. Canā€™t wait to come back.
Kelso
This is not your usual fish & chip shop. Great casual eatery with ample seating inside & out. Fully licensed, serve coffee, sweets & complimentary chilled fragrant water.
Extensive selection of fresh seafood and salads to take home. The dine in menu is extensive. Generous portions, delicious, fresh & tasty. Expect queues at peak times- well worth the wait.
Hakan Dogan
We've been coming here for around 2 years now and it was all good at the beginning however the last few occasions have been a little disappointing. The fish is great, calamari, prawns & salads are really good but the chips and potatoe cakes today were not good unfortunately.
Halux
Best local fish and chips place! Fish is fresh whether you eat it, take away or purchase their produce. Speedy service, the lines look scary but you realize the staff have been prepared for the busy rush. Staff are friendly and always happy to accommodate.
Handini Audita
This is a very afordable but delicious tasting fish and chips. The seafood and the fish taste super fresh that the meat from the fish/seafood itself taste sweet with great texture. The portion of the chips were super huge.
Chef Chengs
Very good and very fresh seafood which is always appetising. However quite pricey and usually always busy. Definitely worth trying for family dinner, but in terms of taste and price for fish and chips, your local fish and chips should do the job.
The Casual Diner
Will come back for:
+ Lunch pack (grilled flake)

One of the best fish and chips I have had anywhere! The lunch pack came with grilled flake, a scallop, a potato scallop, a south melbourne dim sum, 2 calamari and chips. All of the seafood were done to perfection! The batter is light but crunchy and the flake was super fresh and delicious. In fact, all of the seafood were cooked really well, fresh and super delicious. Fries were just ok though. The place is quite big, and obviously a favourite for locals and Iā€™m sure to come back to try out all the other seafood items!

The Official Food Hunters
Fast and prompt service here and food was delicious. Seafood looks and tastes very fresh. We got the kilpatrick oysters which were delicious and highly recommend. We also ordered some sweet potato fries, octopus, salmon and calamari which were also satisfying and tasted amazing!
Federica
Really yummy and tasty food. I haven't scored 5 stars because we had to wait 1hr to get the food, too busy on Saturday night I would suggest to go during the week or before closure
Finger Lickin
Hard to fault anything about this place. The freshest fish and chip shop in the northern suburbs if not Melbourne. The service is good. The prices are reasonable. The place has a good fit out. Canā€™t wait to come back.
Thelordlam
Great pack for 2 with incredible portions and quality seafood. We tried both the battered fish and the grilled fish where we preferred the grilled fish over the battered one. All other things on platter was fantastic too with really friendly staff!
YesNoMelbourne
Yes/no? No

Got the hoki/blue grenadier fish and honestly didnā€™t have much flavour to it
Was very flaky and just average

The chips tasted like one from a normal fish and chip shop

The Greek salad was half decent

The sauce was $1 extra šŸ˜

Bazz
You can imagine that on most nights when this place is full it would be very noisy and bubbling. There was a solid crowd on Friday for lunch and the fresh seafood for sale on display was impressive and welcoming.
The salads looked good and were a little different to your usual fish and chip shop.
The fish was tasty but the batter was plain and too plentiful and the chips were disappointingly average
Mic.tom
Ordered a whole snapper with sides to take away for a potluck, and it was a hit. This place is extremely popular even on a rainy Saturday early dinner service, so the atmosphere was pretty chaotic. The fish took 40 minutes to come out which was the only major negative, though a significant one.
Jack
41 minute wait for our meal. A simple fish and chips. Waited for 41 minutes. (I timed it.)

Go elsewhere. The food isn't much better than any other fish and chips.
Elle T-S
Came in by reccomendation. Was not dissapointed. Friendly helpful service, delicious food, generous portions and more than reasonable pricing. Place was packed on a Monday night, they still managed to give me specialised salad to suit my allergies. Great place. Highly reccomend. Thank you

ā€˜From the Ocean to your plateā€™

I couldnā€™t believe my eyes when I stepped in this venue and in 40+ years of eating fish & chips it has to be my all time greatest!!!

This place is much more than that of your standard fish shops & full credit to the owners who are passionate on supplying the freshest, tastiest and well proportioned meals. We stood there looking at the seafood displayed at the front and I kid you not, I wanted to try everything but Iā€™m sure I would of been there for days!!! Thereā€™s an abundance of beautiful seafood.

We firstly tried the fresh king prawns in a special vinaigrette and then followed by Kilpatrick Oysters which were both amazing!

I had to try their open souvlaki which was a feast in itself, and the meat was very tasty and succulent.

Their Flake was the best ever and then we tried
their famous fried moretan bay bug which was in a special sweet & sour sauce which for me was the highlight of the day!

Itā€™s a kind of place where youā€™ll always make time to go back on an empty stomach so you can try everything:)

Was recommended to visit Blu and headed down the opposite end of town to check it out. We ordered a fish and chips and calamari which was a generous portion and tasty. Unfortunately our experience was let down by the poor service- the waitress was disninterested and rude. Disappointing as other staff seem to be a lot nicer to their customers.
Felix Tang
Fresh seafood, you can choose the rareness of your Salmon which is amazing. Was not too pricey, definitely will go there again. Spent

I love coming here for a Sunday night dinner with my family. The moreton bay bugs are fantastic. The only down side is that if you go around 5.30-6 you will most definitely have to wait around for a table or be seated somewhere uncomfortable. Otherwise fresh and delicious food.
Vick Eats
Great food with a lot of options, well priced and quick service. Unfortunately the some of staff werenā€™t the friendliest and that was a big let down.
Stelly
Definitely one of the best places for fish and chips in all of Melbourne! Though itā€™s not exactly in the most convenient location, if you do find yourself around the area, or if you live nearby, it is definitely worth a visit!

We came on a Friday night at 5:30pm, just before the place started getting packed. The interior is clean and spacious, and the atmosphere is vibrant and energetic. For the four of us, we decided to get the pack for 2, whole grilled calamari, whole grilled baby barramundi, and honey sesame bug tails.

The pack for 2 was MASSIVE and definitely worth the value - a huge mountain of chips, and large pieces of fried fish fillets. The fried seafood is done perfectly - crispy batter, well-cooked fish, and not too oily or greasy. So flavourful we didnā€™t even need any tartare sauce. The honey sesame bugs were to die for - so tender and crispy, and the sauce was sweet and delicious. Absolutely heavenly! The grilled barramundi was also a highlight of the night!

Overall, all the seafood is very fresh and high quality, and it is very worth the value. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Blu, and we will definitely be coming back in the future!
George David Michaelides
In the 2018 review of blu I find my rating dropping from a 4.5 to a 2. Dinner for two pack took over 30 minutes to come out, once it did I was looking forward to fresh chips and calamari, what I ended up with was chips that were unseasoned with a weird firmness in the potato, calamari though while soft, had an odd aftertaste of flour , very disappointed this time
Goodeats
Fresh and flavoursome food, generously portioned and genuine good service. The salad was vibrant and tasty, and the fish, on point. Mussels went well with the toasted dipping bread. I will be back for more!

This is a grand powerful temple of fish and chips and everything else. Cheap oysters that are fresh as CHECK. Great fish and chip style burgers CHECK! Massive amounts of golden friend foods CHECK! Salads and other stuff if you wish CHECK! Get into it. So packed a lot of the time and for good reason!
Charlie Kang
This is the best place for fish and chips in Melbourne. z the price is very reasonable and fish is always fresh. I just love it. I got th he rockling today. sauce costs extra but I'm just here for the fish. salad his also fresh.
Ted Wu
It took me nearly an hour to get there, but Iā€™m glad I came. This place is so far the best fish&chips place Iā€™ve ever been to in Melbourne. Me and my friend ordered the pack for two. Look at the portion! Itā€™s big enough for three. Loved the fried prawn and the fish flake, especially the flake because itā€™s not oily at all, and it didnā€™t have too much batter like most of the fried fish in other places. The potato cake wasnā€™t much of a treat, but tbh I never liked any potato cake. The chips were crispy and not soggy at all, which I very much appreciated. Great vibe and friendly staff, too. Nice experience in general.
Steph
I've been to Blu a handful of times and the recent trip was certainly my last.

The food as always was absolutely delcious. The calamari was tender and the chips were salted to perfection. The selection of food was quite large and food arrived to us under 10 minutes. The environment can feel busy but has a lovely vibe. However, the food and environment was not the problem.

Upon a miscommunication error, we were served the wrong dish. When it was brought to one of the staff's attention, one server responded with a very aggressive tone, raising his voice and stating we were the ones at fault without asking questions to clarify the issue. The incident was shocking as we have never had such unprofessional service before at the restuarant.

We left the service absolutely miserable. They were apologetic but I wasnt able to feel sincerity. I'm extremely grateful for the girl who served us and asked if we were okay. Hopefully, this will never happen to another customer again.

Ordered:Ā
šŸŸ Pack for 2: 1 flake, 1 fish of the day, 2 potato cakes, 2 prawns, 4 calamari rings & chips ($29.50)Ā
šŸ„— Large Greek salad ($8.50)Ā

Review:
Fried so shamefully well that you have to keep eating. The fish is covered in a batter that makes it flakey, with a memorable crusty outside. However, it definitely needed that pinch of salt (which was luckily on the table) to make it more delicious.Ā

The Greek Salad with its generous portions of cucumber and a suitable amount of onions kept us away from being overwhelmed with the grease. The crumbled feta was the perfect complement with its cutting salty and tangy taste.

Water was self serve with 3 infused options. What a great way to elevate plain old water!

Peak hour service left a little to be desired. Ridiculous lines at 6:00pm, but was seated quite quickly due to my small party of 2. Was pointed to a table, which was unfortunately dirty and only had 1 seat. Luckily the waitress dropped the bucket of utensils and napkins which allowed me to quickly wipe down the table.Ā
Would've been a +1 experience if the table was clean for me though!Ā
After the onslaught of people had left and finished their dinner, the service we received was quite friendly and exceptional. They noted we had too much to eat and offered take home packs :- )Ā

Overall, definitely too much food for us two with blu's generous pack portions. If you wanted to sit down and dine at a nice seafood place, Blu is definitely an option. Go expecting great, satisfying food but not so much service haha.
Gracy Wu
Waited an hour for uncooked fish.. absolutely unbelievable. The staff is helpful though and offered complimentary prawn for the long wait and wanted to offer a new fish to replace the uncooked one. We asked for refund instead and they agreed without troubles. Overall other food is normal and we donā€™t think it worth the long wait.
Damo Blommers
Beware. Menu on here is very old, prices are considerably more expensive now - and they have been more expensive for a very long time now too. They have taken down their own website so you can't get the updated prices there either.Ā The owners should take some responsibility to get their menu updated on here, or post it on their facebook page, or reinstate their website.Ā
It is a very common complaint, do something about it and stop stinging your customers.
Eat.Sleep.Review
On my last visit I ordered the Garlic Butter Crab w/ a side of Gourmet Salad ($14.00), Chargrilled Squid in a Thai dressing w/ a side of chips ($13.00) and a fillet of Blue Grenadier ($7.50). The Crab was wonderfully basted however the meat was far too tough with most of it stubbornly stuck to the sides of the shell. The Gourmet Salad that accompanied the crab was a delicious chickpea and quinoa mix that I couldnā€™t get enough of. The Chargrilled Squid was disappointing and consisted of a squeeze of sweet chilli sauce on a flavourless piece of squid accompanied with a generous serve of thick cut chips. The Blue Grenadier fillet was perfect ā€“ a light crispy fry with ample crunch.

While the dĆ©cor of Blu is quite impressive, the layout is rather frustrating. There isnā€™t table service, so you will need to make your order at the front counter. Due to the busy nature of the restaurant, the lines are usually long and chaotic with very little room for a queue at the front of the shop.

Overall, I would rate the whole experience as average. It takes roughly 20 minutes for your food to arrive and Iā€™ve found that the items on the menu are hit-and-miss, itā€™s worth checking out if youā€™re in the area however donā€™t go out of your way for this
Angela
Really disappointed by the overall quality of food and for what you are paying for. This was a takeaway order. We ordered a Fish Burger, which was saturated in tartare sauce could not taste the fish at all. The garlic prawn skewers were cold, fried calamari had too much batter and the chips were below average . I remember this store before expanding - you got the customer service & the food was made with more care and quality. Now the overall experience and food is significantly below par.
Andrew Mac
Despite a busy Friday night, the quality of food was quite nice. Fish was battered well and crispy which was not soaked in inches of batter. Potato cakes were standard and chips were average. But I did enjoy the calamari rings which tastes fresh and not chewy. However oysters were frozen and felt icy. Being informed of the wait time would be nice as well, but overall good job.
Melbourne Foodies
This is one of the BEST seafood places around. Lucky for us itā€™s close by but if not, itā€™s definitely worth the trip. Thereā€™s no going past the grilled octopus!! Everything on the menu is amazing and thatā€™s why we keep going back
Gee
This place has the highest rating for fish n chips in Melbourne so we made the journey out there. Located in an industrial area, it was jam packed at 2pm on a Sunday afternoon. Dimitri took our order and really didnā€™t want to be helpful. It took about 25 minutes for our food to come. Annoyingly, the prices they charge are more than what is listed on the menu. Maybe theyā€™ve only updated recently, but I donā€™t like it. We ordered the Moreton Bay bugs and at 2 chargrilled tails for $29.50 they were on the expensive side. Also ordered the managers special of grilled red snapper and chips with salad. It was ok but not mind blowing. Charging $4.50 for a Coke and extra for tartare also leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Itā€™s a suburban fish n chip shop! Overall it was decent but I wouldnā€™t drive to this area especially for the food.

Got fish and chips tonight 26/6/2020.. and took it away.. normally this is 5 star stuff I have about this place to family and friends. Tonight was very different, very oily..like way too oily...

26/6/2020.. very very oily fish and chips tonight... usually great.. not tonight was horrible

Previous visits Amazing seafood great service huge portions.. great burgers. Staff helpful. Here is burger with the lot and prawn salad... only negative is place can be really busy buts its a testament to how great the food is
MissyC
We had the lunch pack. $17.50 which is fair if you like scallops, calamari and crab sticks. Chips were average. The can of soft drink was 250 ml.
Note. - price of family pack is now $59.90. Not what is posted here on Zomato Iā€™ve had better fish and chips elsewhere
Kylie Maxx
Been here a lot Aways quality and cheaper than other boutique šŸ˜‚ fish and chip shops
Love the tickling and chard octopus
Friendly service also
Aks
I love this place and the best thing is it is so close to where I live... the lunch combo is the best thing to go for as it has all my favourites in one.... the grilled salmon is also lovely... the only thing that needs to change are their fries as they are very dry....
Melbourne Epicure
I can't believe I used to live so close to here and never knew of this place until a friend recommended it. Great fresh food. The venue is actually nice for a massive fish and chips shop. Good areas to sit around the back. We ordered a fish and a whole calamari. I couldn't help myself and also got the grilled octopus. Everything was very, very good. Super fresh food, nicely seasoned, chips were crispy, can't wait to be back. Definitely recommended.
CoutureChef
Not sure what all the fuss is about.
Chips are average at best, well undercooked.
Coleslaw could have been from the local Coles deli, who knows??
Burger & fish saved this meal which were really good yet it was all overpriced.
Service was fine and food came out in a timely manner yet I would not recommend this place to anyone as there are plenty of places in the local area which have better food.
Leslie Yapi
Been looking for good Fish and Chips in Melbourne and finally I found one! Blu has a nice outdoor areas where you can enjoy the nice weather while having your beer and Fish & Chips.

We tried the Blue Grenadier Grill, Blue Eye Grill and Flakes Fried. Personally I prefer the grill fish.

Blue Eye Grill was my favourite, it has a mild flavour, medium kilness and moist. However Blue Eye price was double than the other two.
My next choice for grilled would be cod or john dory

The calamari and potato cake taste wonderfull. We also get the pumpkin salad, it was delicious. Eventhoug you have to pay $2.50 extra. The mussle was ok. Staffs were really friendly and helpful.

We went here in a family group on sunday lunch. Beautiful vibrant food, portion wise are amazingly huge. We shared plates and still have leftovers. The bay bug is amazing!!! My daughter is a fussy eater yet liking the food so much. And she just ask to go back( never happened )
Ample space for groups, very clean and neat.
Laura Jessica
Not bad, but after visiting a few times it is noticeably ā€˜hit and missā€™. When this place is too busy, you can be waiting a decent time for your order, and your order can be incorrect (like mine was). 30 min wait, and my burger was average, and missing the cheese which I had paid extra for.
In saying that, it is probably the best fish and chips in the area (if you can be bothered to wait).
Tina Tran
As if Iā€™ve lived in Coburg my whole life and just only found out about this place.....

I came here with my partner, he ordered the pack for 2 for himself haha and I ordered a grilled whiting with a Greek salad.

My fish was cooked pretty well and had some awesome flavour to it, the salad was really nice and fresh but didnā€™t love the goats feta (personal preference)

Everything on my partners packed was cooked exceptionally well from the fish, calamari, chips and those delicious potato cakes!!!

Definitely will come back and try other menu items!

Staff were nice and efficient however who ever is smashing that service bell 5 times in a row needs to chill... haha
JLN
One of the best fish and chip shops in Melbourne by far. Massive variety of fresh seafood and excellent set up. Also, they are very generous with their portion sizes. Highly recommend
Moneta Tan
What can I say except wow! This place was recommended to us by a family member who would not stop raving on about it and now we understand why. The cue to order is always really long (for good reason), but the wait is well worthwhile. Great fresh quality food for an even better price tag. It's the new hunky dorys which is closer to home. Tick tick tick.
Kathfood
Absolutely delicious. A very busy place but definitely worth the wait. I especially love the fried squid, crab and mussels. The servings are very generous, particularly the Mussels.
Lscig1980
Excellent prices! Always fresh fish & chips...we got takeaway twice over the last few weeks. Blu is our go place for picnic functions! Bonus the aquarium keeps the kids entertained & those little blue wet wipe packs....the Greek salad is yummo!! Just a tad pricey!
Lizzy Keenan
Really beautiful and fresh, unpretentious and friendly. Great to have some great seafood in the area! Unassuming and simple with just good quality, fresh and uncomplicated ingredients.

We have been eating at Bluā€™s since its location next to the Australian Meat Company. Itā€™s a fantastic family-run restaurant and since its expansion into the new, bigger space the quality has remained exactly the same. Best fish and chips in town guaranteed!

Had grilled blue grenadier with brown rice & salad. Fish was cooked to perfection and was really fresh! Salad was also very tasty. Will definitely go back and have the fried fish this time.
Mr Calamari
Large portions, tasty salads, fresh fish cooked simply, reasonable prices, good family atmosphere, looking forward to going back. Top marks !

We went here on a Saturday afternoon before the rush. We ordered a pack for 2 (pictured). The amount of food given for the cost of the pack($27) was quite good.

The potato cake was stodgy and sort of glue like, the calamari was good and the fish was excellent. By that I mean the fish itself was of great quality, the batter coating the fish however was terrible.

The batter didnā€™t taste all that good to begin with but it seemed like when they cooked the fish the oil temp was probably too low as the fish took on a lot of oil. This made it difficult to eat and halfway through I removed the batter completely.

Somewhat disappointed given the recommendations I have heard plus the Zomato rating. Maybe they just had a bad afternoon, I know I sure did.

Fresh Fish alone does NOT!!Ā a 4.5 star eatery make.
-Poor Service, rude disgruntled staff.
-Cleaning a dirty table with a dirty cloth is not acceptable.
-Ordering my food was like pulling teeth (no communication skills what so ever).
6 months ago I praised this place to all my friends, no longer(for now).
I may give it one more try, it would be a true shame for last nights performance to continue because
the food does deserve 4 stars.

This place used to be good when they were at the old location. Ever since they became popular their food quality has gone down a lot!Ā
Their burgers are average, their fish is oily and the chips are crap. These guys used to be my favourite fish and chips place. Price wise, they are very very expensive for basic fish and chips.

Nice place to bring the family. Fish was yummy and the batter was golden and crispy. Only disappointment was the oyster kilpatrick - didnā€™t love it. Place was clean and service time was reasonable as it was pretty busy when we were there. Plenty of adults and kids. Would definitely return.

Quite possibly the best fish n chips in Melbourne, definitely the best I've come across. I had the lunch pack with blue grenadier, it was an enormous portion of food for one person. The fish was fresh and delicate with a light crispy batter. The calamari rings are the best I've had, again incredibly fresh and tender. Hubby enjoyed his hamburger with the lot. All the seafood is fresh and nothing was greasy. Reasonable prices, friendly staff and a bright and welcoming restaurant. Will definitely be coming back.

I wish I could rate more than 3 because the food is really really good. My issue was the one hour wait (not 25-30 they advised) for my pick up order that was grilled, when I asked for fried. A bit disappointed as I convinced my friend to try this place with me and they ended up confusing my order. Still great food, but service definitely needs work.

Huge waiting time at common hours. Food was fresh but I didn't like the taste of the oil (which is most of fish and chips)... not much in the way of a waiting area either and always felt like we were in the way.

First time I have been back since they moved, the fish and chips are fantastic, the service was fast and efficient, we grabbed a table outside to enjoy the sunshine. My only negative would be the lack of parking
Hello. Imnikki
I was looking for awesome fish and chips and Blu kept popping up on all my searches. Thinking that this must be a sign, we headed off to Blu to check out what the fuss is all about. Walking in, we knew we hit jackpot by the number of customers despite it being late in the afternoon, and also the fresh selections of seafood on offer. Not only were there many people dining in or getting takeaways, many were snapping up fresh seafood to go.

We ordered the lunch pack and a garlic prawns skewer to share, and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of food in the lunch pack. Two decent sized fried fish of the day, a potato cake, one fried scallop, one dim sim, one crab stick, and two calamari rings, and not forgetting chips! How is this even supposed to be for one? All super fresh and lightly fried in crispy batter, and most importantly the fish was sweet, moist and flaky. The chips, albeit hot and fresh, were half crunchy and half limp. Thatā€™s the only complain I have.

Thereā€™s a bit of wait for food, even with the place just half full, so Iā€™m guessing that this is not a place you would want to go to at peak hours when youā€™re absolutely starving.

Service was pretty much straight to the point, no dilly-dallying around and no chit-chat either. The food, or more precisely the seafood, is what youā€™re here for, and nothing else.

Amazing amazing food. Great place to come and sit with the whole family. Love the Greek touch on everything. Number 1 place for fish and chips and amazing souvlakia.

Of course nobody can deny how fresh and tasty the food is here but what this place is losing over time is the 'dining experience'

Again this is not a bad review but when you have one night a week to eat out and enjoy time with family and friends the general noise/atmosphere/ and "rush" to finish and free a table can be a bit much. Might order take away next time and he'd down to Coburg Lake

Absolutely amazing seafood here. Fresh and tasty. Service fantastic and there is one young guy there that has a smile on his face all the time. I think the owner was working behind the bar and he was so friendly and if it was him then he should be very proud of his business

Really can't complain about this place. Good location, easy to park and nice set out. Such a huge variety of fresh seafood and fish beautifully displayed. They offer quite a bit of what other fish and chip places don't. Service was good and so was the food. Will be a regular

Fun, happy collected crew. Take away the orders, fast service with a nicely designed interior, the only out of place aspect was the current pop music. One of the best banana fritters Iā€™ve had, crispy tasty batter with nice cinnamon and powdered sugar for the price. The fish set was nicely cooked and generously sized. One of the best fish and chippery in Melbourne.

If you like seafood, this is the place you need to eat. It is phenomenal, everything on their menu is just fresh and delicious!
We livd 30 minutes from here and have been here 3 times in the last 4 days.
Their basic fish fillets are cooked so amazingly well, their sides are tasty and their seafood options are diverse, interesting and most of all finger licking good. I wanted to try everything on their menu at least once, I was not disappointed with anything we ordered from here.
I even dared to venture to a crispy lobster burger and that was unique to say the least, but like the standard, delicious!
Make sure to get the fried mars bar for dessert, a great end to such tasty seafood.
Love this place!!!

Used to come here when it was a small wholesaler factory shop, quality is still as I remember.
Best fish & chips in Melbourne
The value and flavours are just too good.
So much variety, great service!
10/10
