Review Browns Corner Hotel - Coburg

Doug Wheeler
A week day happy hour from 4 till 6 pm. A reasonable selection of beers, not all on happy hour. I had a happy hour Carlton Draught and a couple of Wood and Stones to follow. The later not on happy hour prices. Friendly, helpful staff and no problems with the punters. Would return again.

Had an event here on Saturday 23rd of July 2022 and I couldn’t fault the service! Craig & the team were wonderful, went above & beyond and made the whole process & night stress-free. Would definitely recommend!

Browns is a cosy place for a quiet beer in Coburg. It's not fancy, but it has what counts - friendly staff, reasonable beer prices and good food. Kids can have a bit of space in the back room and footy is on the tele. Good spot to catch up with local mates

Nice renovated pub for a few quiet beers. Has double glazed windows, comfy stools. Pokies are down one end (if you want them) but the front bar still has charm and the original pressed metal ceilings. Little neat beer garden too.

Meals were large. I had the steak and it was a bit tough, but otherwise generous servings of food and drinks.

The best Parma night in the area! Every Thursday from $13. Great quality, size, price and service.

Super friendly staff, loved the atmosphere .

Two pool tables! Cheap schooners! People in their pyjamas! The cherry on top? Schooner loyalty cards, like those ones that normal people get for their local cafe. It's irresponsible as heck but at least they know their market. Genius. Only downside is that I usually feel pretty unsafe. Avoid eye contact and the pokies section. Shame the bistro is permanently closed, a bowl of chips is usually nice after a few schooners.

This pub is awesome, the new chef is amazing, and the caesar salad was the best l've ever had. Lamb salad great also. Market fish and chips top quality. Well done Browns!

Had a chance to visit browns corner last weekend, oh man what an amazing place to be. I was there with few of my friends and was keen to try their steak as i had heard so much about it. I certainly have to admit it was one of the best steak i have ever had. Good job guys!! Cheers

Lovely staff ... not so lovely food. Calamari was not nice at all. My mum had the curry again not nice, rice so overcooked was almost mashed potato and no flavour. Very disappointing

We booked the function room for a wake and were treated with compassion and sincerity by the hotel staff. The service from Craig and Laura was excellent and they really went out of their way to accommodate us and make everything perfect. The food was delicious and we had so many positive comments from our family and friends. Thank you so much!

The food was very good, but the staff were fantastic and a great atmosphere..

Had lunch with the family yesterday. The lady serving us was lovely and friendly. The $13 Parma's were the best we've ever had! Definitely recommended and will be going back!

Well the one good thing was the beer.. besides that - food was terrible drenched in oil, burnt, not cooked properly. Just no effort what so ever put in. - the two chefs on had the biggest potty mouths! My 2 year old daughter now knows how to say the f word - and was completely shocked with the way one of the chefs treated a customer! When all she wanted was another plate! I have been to browns on a few occasions and it was great. After this horrible outing I doubt I will be back!

Great Parma - have so missed the classic Aussie Parma!

Browns is a classic pub with pokies, tab and a good variety of tap beer. There are pool tables In the front bar and Frothy on tap which lived up to its name when I ordered a schooner... the keg must have just been changed. Good spot for a quick drink.
Really nice friendly atmosphere food was delicious and service was really really good. Will definitely be back 😁 great place to take the children as well as they have a small play room

Good classic pub food you can count on and always lovely service! Go on the special nights and it’ll be cheap even with a beer! Their schnitzel is top notch

Saw their $15 porterhouse steak banner out front on Tuesdays so my partner and i decided to randomly try out this place as we drove by deciding what to eat for dinner.

It was a good decision as it was better than i expected for the price. Steaks were cooked well, nice mix of salad, mushroom sauce was pretty alright as well as chips, being cooked and salted well.

I quite enjoyed everything on the plate. Service was good. Food came out quite quickly after we ordered. Wouldn't mind coming back here for another $15 steak.

Have been coming to Browns once every couple of months for the past few years and never usually leave unsatisfied. Always came on a Tuesday to have the $12/$15 steak deal which was a great bargain and always popular. I came here with my mum a few Tuesdays ago and was sad to find out that they've done away with the deal and replaced it with a new one. $10 off the steak menu every Tuesday.. The regular price for a steak there is around $30. Sad, but good while it lasted.

Last tip: don't have the seafood there!

Good hangout, full of buzz .... on Poker nights.

Modernly renovated inside, all the facilities you can think of.

Drinks are well priced and quite good, however more importantly great atmosphere on the Friday night, which was one of their Poker night.

Well behaved crowd.

Extremely friendly staff and a clean comfortable atmosphere. Lunchtime special meals were full servings, not entre size. The first thing I reach for is a chip, HOT ,Crispy and pillow fluffy on the inside. What a win from the first bite.Slider buns were toasted and the 3 fillings seemed genuine not manufactured as they often are with sliders. The Chicken Parma was a nice thick piece of chicken breast cooked through and still tender. The wild mushroom risotto was very tasty. Chilled Table water served without asking., and garnish on the lemon lime and bittersThumbs up to this pub the chef and the staff.

went there for dinner and beer with family, staff are friendly make you feel welcomed. other customers there are also friendly and a kiwi bloke pointed us out to the right bus stop and supermarket (cheers mate) will be back again

Well as far as pub meals and specials go this hits the spot. Tuesday special steak meal $15 can't argue with that. Never a bad meal here. Everything you can ask for pub grub.

The Monday night parma meal is very good value, however i ordered garlic prawns thinking i ordered the entre not even realising there was a main garlic prawn. So when it came out i thought 'oh yeah for $15 this is pretty good' but when we paid i realised it was $26, i didn't bother to say anything because it was my fault but i was devastated that a bit of plain white rice, some frozen prawns and a cream sauce cost me $26. The items on the menu are quite expensive for a pub of this standard. I would go back for the deals but certainly wouldn't pay full price for anything.

Nice place for a weekday dinner :). Have been there quite a few times now and can say it has been fairly consistent, in terms of customer service and food. Staff are always friendly and fun to be around. Food is good, not great, but they don't charge as if it is great. Good serves, doesn't take long to come out, comes out hot...what more could you want, certainly worth a try. Plus, there's a weird drinking lounge place that makes you feel like a drug king pin, so that's pretty cool. Deserves a better reputation I reckon :)

DiNg DoNg tHe WiTcH iS dEAd!!!!. When i first moved to coburg this was our regular, and we loved it! But after we started to get to know the people behind the bar and managment it started to decline in enjoyment. It got to the point where id not wear a seatbelt on the way there, because id rather die than listen to that blonde witch again, barking at her employees all night and humiliating people who seemed to be doing their job just fine!! Even abusing customers!
So i sadly avoided this place for over a year because of her, but recently returned to find ..... DiNg dOnG tHe WiTcH iS dEaD!!!!
(Not actually dead, im sure she is fine)
So if there is anyone else out there that has been scared off by Mary. Its safe to return

Good meal but over priced. Good meal and good service but 2 meals drinks and an average starter for just under $80 was over priced
better to go thu the week on Wednesday for the 2 for 1 main meals!
then it would be better value
Thefreerangeplate
$15 Parma and pot night. Why not? Pretty good, i would go back on another Parma night with friends. Fast and friendly service.

Serves schooners but i wouldnt eat there. This place is sat right on the bell st divide. as such it will be interesting to see how this old style TAB. pub adapts to the increasing hipsterfication of the area.

the food is bog pub bistro standard and no doubt over-priced for the quality. however, they do serve beer in regular schooner glasses which is nice to see. there are some rooms out the back where you can hide from the SKY TV, and loud, foul-mouthed working class people., too.

but it's time has passed really; in need of a refurb.

Great value for money We eat there about once a month. Our parties have had normal meals, night specials and kids meals and every meal received over the last six months has been very good to great. Thanks Browns – we know we can enjoy our family nights!

Never Again. One of the first people to order and endured 45 minute wait for a medium porter that was terrible. The inside was still red and oozing blood. The outside was burnt black on every part. Other meals on the table were equally undesirable.
Nina
$12 steak night on tuesday. Not bad at all!
Deb
I have eaten at Browns many times, the food, service and atmosphere are always excellent. Excellent value for money, and a great place to catch up with friends for a meal. Desserts also are good, especially the lemon tart! The mid week specials are great

Below Average Food, Even Worse Service. My friend ordered a Parma a couple of weeks back. We went there just before the end of lunch time and the Manager was extremely rude to us (she must have been frustrated because we arrived at the end of lunch hour). She was vulgar in the way in which she spoke to us and treated us as customers. Her aggressive tone, and the way she was serving us made us feel extremely unwelcome. She even had the Audacity to mutter "10 dollars" at my friend, as she stood there at the end of the table, holding out her hand. I thought that was rude considering the customers who were there before us had paid at the counter. She could have asked us to do the same.

The Food was below average, as stated in the title. my friend described it as being a "decent price for that sort of parma but he wouldn't pay 22 dollars for it" (10 dollars being the cheap Monday price, and 22 dollars being the normal price). We will not be going back here, even for a pint.

Checked out this local pub and what a gem. Love the front bar and pool tables, and better yet the food. Especially the calamari . Will be back

The place is normally well organised. Today some friends and I went for some drinks they had no pineapple juice or cranberry juice, had to run around to get the card to open the till to wait for change, refused to go across the road and get pineapple juice ( if they had of I would have stayed a lot longer and drank a lot more) the manager left about 10-15 mins after I asked if they could get some she could have quickly ran across to get it but nope they didn't.

Came here to try their Monday night $10 Parma deal. Enjoyed the parma & the salad, chips were ok, mine were a bit on the cool side, but overall great value. Real chicken not reconstituted rubbish, ham included in the layering with napoli & cheese, the crumbing was nice & light, not overdone. We'll be back for sure!
Le Petite Gateaux
Quickie Lunch. Had a quick lunch and drink here because I only had an hour, but the steak sandwich and beer were lovely.

Service was really non existent as it was dead when we went in. Still would come back!

Not bad for pub grub!!

When it comes to different prices for the same parma I think Browns takes the cake, It wasn’t until we took a seat in the Bistro that we noticed this, but Browns has quite a few different charges for their parmage. $22 in the bistro, $18 in the sports bar, $14 in the sports bar on Thursdays
