Review The Elizabeth Cafe - Coburg

Really love this place, relaxed, friendly staff, really comfortable and awesome food. Our regular cafe now, highly recommend either the boss’s choice or the chorizo burger. 🤤

This is the type of place that makes you want to come back so you can try out the rest of the menu cause what you ordered was so good. Really nice place with heaps of room inside and in the garden area. Staff were really friendly and served us pretty quickly. Missus enjoyed the coffee which is always a good sign.

Great cafe, nice vibe and friendly service. Food portions could be a little larger though. I ordered the home made crumpets and they were more like mini pikelets for children????

Fantastic lunch and brekkie range, especially for vegetarians and vegans. The jackfruit burger is delicious and totally unique. Very child friendly, with play pen set up for little ones to use. Very friendly service.

You know its true love when you’re willing to move states for a person.

Such was the case for Peter and Hannah McCaw, who originate from Perth. When Peter was offered the opportunity to move to Melbourne to pursue his career in Exercise Physiology, wife Hanna packed up shop and moved over with him. Being a chef and hospo veteran, Hanna left behind a well establish job, and a growing industry.

To reciprocate the love and dedication, Peter supported Hanna in living her own dream of owning a café. When this dual shopfront café became available a few years ago, they took the opportunity to breathe new life into it. They’ve put their own personal touches into the venue, with a fresh lick of paint, and exposed brickwork coloured with vibrant tones.

Coffee is care of Undercover Roasters, and their single origin from Ethiopia had hints of orange acidity and toffee notes as an espresso.

Their newly launched spring menu had some vibrant options matching the décor. I was most tempted by the Smashed Pumpkin with beetroot hummus; Pulled BBQ Jackfruit Burger; and what was labelled the ‘Boss Choice’. I had to take a leaf from the boss’s book, and went with this hearty dish. It featured bacon, halloumi, smashed avocado, chili jam, and hollandaise. The sweetness from the chili jam fused so well with the halloumi and bacon. I understand why the ‘Boss’ is in charge. She knows what’s best.

Find Elizabeth Cafe at 30 Elizabeth Street, Coburg.

Not pretentious, friendly, never crowded, good range of dishes that are not overly fancy but cooked and presented very well, has a lovely local vibe. Give it a try!

Feb 2019: now closed 😢😢😢

Tried this place on Sunday!! It has a great vibe and love the decor. Very friendly service and the food delicious! The only thing id suggest is looking at the quality of coffee youre using and maybe upping barista skills in your team. Both me and my partner thought the coffee was weak. He drinks long blacks and i drink latte. I would come back however!
Melbourne To Mouth
Love love LOVED this place! Such a bright, airy and adorable decorated spot in the middle of Coburg and one I’d definitely venture back for.
We came on a Saturday for a late brunch and scored a table in their cute little courtyard. Their menu has all the classics as well as a couple of awesome signature dishes. Our favourite has to be the Boss’ Choice which has all the good hallmarks of a Benny but with some smashed avo, halloumi, grain filled bread and amazing chili jam for good measure. This will undoubtedly cure ANY hangover! Their brioche french toast is another winner for anyone with a bit of a sweeter tooth, and will definitely fill you up!
The staff were super friendly and service was great. They’re also family and dog friendly, definitely one to check out!

I’m not sure why you’d have Prana Chai packets displayed behind the counter if when you order a chai, they make it with powder. I was wondering why it was made so fast so asked the question as to whether it was Prana... the answer was “oh, no it’s not.... I’ll make you another”.
If you order coffee there, just ensure they don’t slip in the Nescafé Blend 43 while you’re not looking...... 🤦🏼‍♀️
Eat Play Live Melbourne
A cute suburban cafe across the road from the old Kodak factory site in Coburg. The interior features two rooms with lots of natural light and a funky brick interior painted by the owner. There is a cabinet next to the counter filled with sweet treats and pre-made rolls. They also have a cute courtyard for sunny days.

The owners and chefs are super passionate about serving up great healthy food. They have a solid all day menu featuring all your melbourne breakfast faves, almost all dishes have a VEGAN option, plus a good selection of burgers including a VEGAN BURGER made with jackfruit! We didn't try the burger on this occasion but I'm absolutely going back for it.

The changing face of the local area has meant that there is now a big demand for good quality vegan food, and Elizabeth cafe are getting a name for themselves meeting it! They have plenty of dishes for the meat lovers too, the service is warm and welcoming and the Undercover Roasters coffee is lovely and creamy and extremely smooth.

Thanks for a great brunch - see you again soon!
Ramp It Up
Wheelchair accessible indoors only. Outdoors accessible if you have a ramp. The toilets are located outside. So not accessible without a ramp. The size of the toilet would easily accommodate an electric chair.

Spacious and accomadating space. Tables can be moved and staff were helpful.

Food was great. So many vegan and meat options. Great portions for price and dietary requirements were happily met.
The.Top.Lifestylee
The staff were very friendly and the cafe looked really nice with exposed brick. The food was beautiful but a bit pricey for what you got. There was so much potential with the food it just needed a bit more to make it wow. The drinks were good, the juice very fresh and the coffee good quality
Dine And Dash
Elizabeth Café is a lovely café located in Coburg North. I haven't been to Coburg North before so it was exciting venturing out to a new spot in Melbourne. When my brother and I arrived the waitresses greeted us straight away and they were outstanding and definitely delivered one of the best examples of customer service I've ever experienced. Top notch! We were both very impressed. We were shown to our table immediately which was near the window - a lovely spot. Luckily for us, it was quite late in the day so the cafe wasn't too busy. I liked the minimalist decor and the layout of the restaurant (see photo).

We ordered the Vitamin C Orange Juice, a latte, the Kale, Quinoa and Roast Pumpkin Salad with Avocado Vinaigrette, the Chicken Burger and a dish on the specials menu which was Mushrooms on Toast.

The Vitamin C juice came with ginger and lemon which really made the drink refreshing, tasty and just that little bit different. We could have easily had another one it was so delicious. The coffee was fine - nothing to complain about there. The Chicken burger was a Portuguese-style burger and was served with a brioche bun and salad. The chicken was cooked well and the salad inside the burger was crisp and garden-fresh. It was a very satisfying burger. The chips were crunchy, perfectly salted and went well with the (dairy-free) aioli sauce. The Mushrooms on toast was a relatively small serving but for us, it was definitely made a great side to the two other main dishes - the mushrooms were cooked well and it was an enjoyable, tasty dish. The dish of the day for me was definitely the Kale, Quinoa and Roast Pumpkin Salad. It was unreal! The salad was presented and dressed elegantly on the plate with an array of ingredients including, broccolini, avocado and pomegranates. It was a very generous and satisfying salad and it tasted absolutely divine. Hats off to the chef!

I really enjoyed my experience here today and I would definitely recommend checking this place out especially if you're a local or in the area. It's an absolute gem! The food, the customer service and the ambience were all fantastic! Their menu wasn't extravagant but they do cater for vegans, vegetarians and gluten-free.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Check out _dineanddash_ on Instagram for more photos!
The High Tea Girl
From the very moment you see the fabulous artwork as you enter this cafe you know this is going to be a special experience. The pinks and aquas really make the space quirky and fun but don’t let that blow you away because the food and service will.
When do you remember a time a chef came out of the kitchen to say hi and see how your meal is going? Well it happens here.
Lauren was so friendly and bubbly and really made my time here so fabulous.
The french Toast was exceptional and they even did a half serve for me. The smashed pumpkin comes with in house beetroot hummus which I could very easily become addicted too.
Thank you Elizabeth Cafe! I can’t wait to return again soon
Good Food Good Mood
I was lucky enough to be invited to Elizabeth on Saturday and was impressed in more ways then one. The staff were absolutely delightful and their baked goods looked insane. I almost regretted ordering the French toast after I spied a delicious looking brownie but I swiftly took back that thought after tasting the amazing dish.
I kicked off with the vitamin c juice on account of my cold and felt it restoring my immunity as I sipped! The smashed avocado dish was presented absolutely beautifully and while it was missing a zing of like the pickled beetroot brought it all together.
The French toast was one of the better ones I’ve had. I go through stages of ordering this dish and loving it sick and then I have a bad one that turns me off for awhile. I am definitely still on a roll of exceptional renditions post this as the poached fruit was just beautiful on it and it was perfectly soaked. A fabulous little suburban find with a gorgeous interior and relaxed atmosphere

This place is an absolute little gem! Visited here for the first time on the weekend, and was immediately greeted by very friendly and happy staff. The cafe is a good size, capable of fitting a fair few people, which is handy as it started getting pretty full at around lunchtime! I loved the look of the tables, each one with gorgeous little flower in a vase. My friend and I were very hungry, so we ordered the Smashed Avo, the French Toast, and the Sage Mushroom Medley (a special on the menu - but one I hope they keep!!), and shared all three. The smashed avo was gorgeous - the avo mixed with the feta tasted incredible, and there was a generous amount too which was a bonus. I loved the nutty additions on the side too - gave it some crunch and texture! Also great that it came with 2 poached eggs - a nice big hearty meal. The mushroom medley was divine. I absolutely LOVE mushrooms, and I love that the mushrooms were tossed in garlic (not overpowering though) and the hint of chilli was amazing!! The French toast was just delish. I’m not a big sweet tooth, but this French toast was not sickly - it reminded me of hot cross buns without fruit - they tasted cinamonny and fluffy and I just loved them. Coffee was delish, as was the green tea. Overall a thoroughly enjoyable experience! :-)

> The Elizabeth (big breakfast) with scrambled eggs on toast with mushrooms, confit cherry tomatoes on vine, fresh avocado, sautéed spinach, house made relish + potato rosti add bacon AND The smashed pumpkin with poached eggs on multigrain on toast, with sweetly roasted smashed pumpkin, accompanied by crisp kale, pomegranate, marinated feta + in house beetroot hummus AND The French toast with a sweetly spiced café style brioche French toast accompanied by an assortment of seasonal fruit + a drizzle of maple syrup <

When I think of new places to try for cafés, I wouldn’t typically think of Coburg. However, Elizabeth Café’s presence really stood out to me so I had to go check it out. Hidden in the suburbs, Elizabeth is a perfect spot for the locals and all surrounding areas. The staff are super friendly and are very attentive to every detail. Across the road from a Degani franchise, I believe this café stands out amongst their competitors. Their menu is not as large as most, however, they do have something for everyone and are very vegan friendly.

A big breakfast is always a safe and pretty decent choice if you’re hungry and in a feasting mood. Seeming there are so many elements, they were very generous with the portion size, which is a pleasant surprise. The scrambled eggs were cooked really nicely as they were quite fluffy and creamy. A big breakfast is not complete without the condiments on the side to complement the main attraction. The mushrooms and spinach were nicely sautéed, giving the meal a saltier flavour. The tomatoes added moisture and sweetness to the dish, complementing the thick and sweet relish, both of which really enhanced the flavours in the meal. The meal was not yet complete here, we had to add bacon to really boost the feeling of a big brekkie. With the meat present, the meal was even more satisfying. This dish has been executed perfectly and really lives up to its name!

It has become more common to see less smashed avo on toast and more smashed pumpkin or some other vegetable smashed on toast. I never really thought pumpkin would be a breakfast food, however, if executed well, it can be the perfect breakfast feed. The pumpkin was very smooth with a few chunks. It was not spiced when cooked, so the kale, feta and pomegranate seeds helped to boost the flavours. The pomegranate and feta added a nice sweet/sour element to the meal, both of which made the pumpkin pop. The poached eggs made the dish more substantial and the yolk melted into the crunchy toast really well, while enhancing the flavour of the pumpkin. The beetroot hummus with the nuts was a perfect addition to the pumpkin as it too enhanced the flavours of the pumpkin and combined with the feta and pomegranate flavours extremely well. As a different and creative dish, I feel like they have done a good job with finding a combination that works and is also tasty.

French toast is a classic café menu item and has been for as long as I can remember. To see it being executed so classically is very unusual in the Melbourne food scene, so I was very excited when it came out because it looked really authentic and like there was a lot of passion and love put into making it. Brioche is always a perfect base for French toast as it is sweet and thick. The mixture is rich in cinnamon and the texture of the French toast was a little gooey, just how I like it! The berries and fruit on top add so much flavour to the meal, while the pear just stands out because it is nice and sweet, perfect for a sweet meal. The maple syrup poured over the French toast adds more moisture to the bread and infuses it with a sweet maple flavour that is quite strong. This dish was executed really well and we enjoyed every mouthful!

A very satisfying and well executed feed. If you are looking for a small and loving café, you should definitely check this place out. You will feel like one of the locals because it is so warm and welcoming.

The breakfastpiggy team

Piggies out, Oink oink 🐷🐷

We were delighted to be invited to the Elizabeth Street Cafe in Coburg, it’s been a while since we have been in the area, but what a great spot.

We really enjoyed the choice of colour from the crockery to the brickwork. We saw an real eclectic mix of patrons too.

We ordered a tea and the French toast. The tea came in a pot, with real tea leaves, it was great to be able to top up my cup over the course of breakfast, we loved this.

The French toast was the prettiest I’ve ever seen, it was decorated with the tiniest poached pear, sliced banana, berries and smiling faced viola flowers. And WOW, it tasted as good as it looked, the cinnamon infusion was delicious, the bread soft and sweet, perfectly paired with the fruit.

We ordered the 3 bears tri colored quinoa porridge. When I tried some I felt like Goldilocks as it was tucking in to the grainy porridge. Delicately flavored with maple syrup and seasonal fruits, just as pretty as the French toast, but more healthy and extremely filling. A warming dish that was perfect for the colder days. We were later told that both the french toast and quinoa porridge dishes were actually vegan. Clearly this fact didn’t made a difference at all to how tasty they were or how much we enjoyed them.

Not because we needed it but because it sounded so dam tasty, we ordered the bacon and egg muffin served with a hash brown. No not vegan but very very tasty.

Being such a cold day we tried to bring back summer with the aptly named summer lovin juice blend of watermelon, apple and mint... delicious.

Coffee (UCR) got big ticks of approval too. We left very content. Thank so very much for having us

KD
Split The Bill
Nestled on Elizabeth St Coburg, this cafe is a stand out!
With its artistic looking frontage, you will feel like your visiting a cafe along Brunswick St but without the hassle of parking your car! We were delighted to be invited to this cafe this week. I was not actually joking about the parking either as there is plenty across the street and you don’t need to worry about parking inspectors.
As we walked in we were greeted by the lovely hostess who showed us to our seats. I was immediately struck by the funky decorative walls in the cafe which is spacious with lots of natural light.
We started off with coffees, a skimmed flat white for me. The coffee beans are roasted locally and I have to say it was sensational. It was very smooth to the palette and the coffee art was impressive.
Now came out the brunches and what a delightful treat. I ordered a Melbourne staple the ‘Smashed Avocado’.
I was so impressed with the whole look of the plate and how artistic it looked I almost felt guilty about eating it! The photos speak for themselves. But my stomach got the better of me and I tucked into the fresh produce of smashed avocados and poached eggs on multigrain bread, accompanied by tomato and rocket salad which included pickled beetroot, black sesame pumpkin, a sprinkle of marinated feta and toasted seed and nut mix.
The combination of all the flavours really worked.
My friend ordered the Benedict and it was truly an experience, every mouthful was a delight.
My partner ordered the fried eggs on toast with a side of potato rosti and bacon.
The portion of bacon was very generous, with 4 slices which is more than the average nowadays. The bacon was of high quality. The eggs were delicious and again the produce was of high standard.
It also came with a side of homemade sweet tomato relish. That also won him over!
This brunch set us up for the day as we didn’t get hungry again until tea time.
Elizabeth St Cafe offers the most impressive, high quality dishes. It’s no surprise though as the staff and chef really do love what they do. We had the pleasure to meet the chef and he wanted to hear our thoughts on the dishes. His passion for making sure every dish that comes out of the kitchen is nothing less than perfect really shows. Top marks on presentation, high quality produce, coffee making skills and natural friendly service. Thank you for hosting us!
Food Fiend Melbourne
We adventured out to Coburg this long weekend and visited The Elizabeth Cafe on Elizabeth St. This cafe has been open for about 5 years, but was taken over 3 years ago by Hannah and her team. It boasts a double shop front, which means lots of room for a table and two separate dining areas. The decor is simple, but fresh, especially the pastel brick design that leads in to the second dining space. The art work on the roof of the shop front is also fantastic.

The new menu, which launched two weeks ago, is full of modern, yet original dishes. Manager, Lauren, said that they are aiming to cater for the younger community that have recently moved in to the area. They are in direct competition with a Degani over the road, but hopefully, with time, the general public will realise what a little gem this cafe is.

We ordered a watermelon/apple juice to start and an iced coffee - both were delicious! I don't usually like sweeter coffees, but this combination of ice cream and coffee was ace.

We ordered 3 dishes to share - the Chorizo Burger ($16), Portuguese Chicken Burger ($16) & the French Toast ($15). All dishes had generous serving sizes, but were not huge.

The Chorizo Burger comes in a pink, beetroot bun and is stuffed with spicy chorizo, scrambled eggs, cheese, avocado, a hash brown and aioli. This is a hangover bun if every I've tasted one! The flavour combination was absolutely spot on, but the chorizo was just one whole sausage, so kept sliding out when I couldn't bite through the skin.

The Portuguese Chicken Burger came stuffed with juicy chicken breast, cheese, cos lettuce, tomato & aioli. It also came with a serve of fries. This burger is simple, but very tasty. The juiciness of the chicken worked well considering that a risk of chicken burgers is them being dry.

The French Toast was a very humble dish. It was simple cinnamon spiced toast topped with banana, strawberries, blueberries and a baby poached pear. Again, the flavours combinations were perfect! We shared this after eating our burgers and it was the perfect way to finish the meal.

The Elizabeth Cafe is staffed by an ambitious and dedicated team, with Hannah the owner, Lauren the front of house manager and Ross in the kitchen. They want to provide you with a Brunswick style foodie experience without having to travel all the way to the West. Visit them before everyone catches on!

I have been a number of times and have been impressed with the food I have tried -'mainly
Because I eat vegan and vegetarian food and they have a few good options. I think their coffee cups are way too small and could be improved . I also think that their selection in the cabinet leaves a lot to be desired and would benefit from more variety and stock. The roast vegetable quinoa with almond feta is well worth a try and this cafe has huge potential if it just improved a few things.

Had a late lunch here with a good friend I hadn't seen in several months. The place was very quiet which was perfect because we really wanted to talk.
The food and coffee were good, but there were no salad options when I arrived (may have already been finished for the day) and I was craving some fresh greens.
Staff were lovely and friendly.
Haven't been here since had changed hands and now regreting it. The cafe staff are confused and the food is boring and waited a while for drinks and food. I don't normally review but this was needed

After 7 years of living in Carlton-Fitzroy (lived near the border), I just moved into the area from Carlton-Fitzroy area this week. I have always been spoiled for choice!

The Elizabeth has outstanding milk-based coffee. The male barista (don't know which one, but I've only seen one male) is the worst barista of the bunch, but is still pretty good. He's also really friendly. Anyway, The Elizabeth stands shoulder to shoulder with trendier cafes in trendier areas with regards to coffee.

The only letdown was their long black, which is typically the order I make to judge coffee skills. It was pretty bad, but typical in Melbourne. I guess the baristas don't drink long blacks, and don't know how to serve one!

Tthe food is pretty good. One example is The Boss toastie. It had chilli jam in it or something, which went well with the haloumi, bacon, and whatever else was inside it!! Cheap as well.

Wonderful place to hang out. I can't say the same about other cafes, where you constantly feel the pressure to order more and more coffee and food. You can really just sit back and relax, chat with friends, etc.

Every table surface feels sticky, and every piece of furniture needs some TLC (or replacement), but the rooms are airy and bright.
Joe Cool
Overall good atmosphere. Moderate eating experience in the end. Ordered open stake sandwich. Scotch fillet on turkish bread. Oh no, ran out of bread. Ok. Brioche then. Oh sorry. No scotch fillets. I'll take the mac liz burger. Have you got mince? Half hour wait later for a burger and waldorf salad, vinaigrette dressing tasted like strong vinegar. Will go again... but only for the coffee.

This place had really stepped it up in the last few months. If you've visited before and weren't super impressed, it might be worth trying again.

They have changed their beans and their coffee is now fantastic -- the best in the area. Lots of good vegetarian and healthy options. Friendly and laid back.
FoodingAroundMelbourne
Great location, nice food and friendly service. I ate the pork brekky, with pork a butter knife could cut through and a surprise the beetroot hollondaise. Lots of options for the vegetarians out there. The lemon scroll was my fave of the day and would go back again and again for it.
Chris Cappola
An amazing find
The food was exceptional - a delicious breakfast, good options and sides available too
The service was also excellent
Theres a lot of options around in the area but this place destroys them all. 👌👍
Skellie
Brekky here was nice enough to return. The menu has plenty of vegetarian options but could use some more mushrooms. (Two of us added mushrooms to our breakfasts).
The Madrid brekky was a bit messy and strange, but nice.
The green brekky was beautiful looking. I'd add avocado next time for a bit extra moisture.
The eggs + hollandaise was the best. Flavour town. Needed the mushrooms we added, though.
The staff were overbearing but trying their best. They asked us 5 times if we were ready to order within like 3 minutes. They weren't busy and we were purposely avoiding eye contact. Chill out please! I'm trying to relax in the morning! Then they asked how we're going and how it was way too much and apologised for bothering us or being too overbearing 3 times. Just.... Zip it... Let my company and the food define my morning, please.
Naly Diefenthaler
I thoroughly enjoyed my time . The food and the atmosphere was great. We had the madrid scramble and chicken bagel. Both tasted amazing; yummy postwork meal . However the food took a while even though we were pretty much the only ones there. Good portions and tasty = great place
BrunchQueen
Had to wait so long and it wasn't busy but that's the only negative, as the breakfast burrito was delicious! The coffee was great and it was very spacious
Layna Armstrong
Service needs attention. Got the feeling that I was a pain in the neck. Maybe because it was an hour from closing. Still...got to keep up your game if you want customers to keep coming back, particularly with another cafe directly opposite where the service is excellent.
KJ
Great little cafe, delicious food, very well priced and attentive service. Had the porky breakfast - beetroot hollandaise was delicious (just wanted more) - partner had the salmon Benedict - delicious! Will definitely be back again 😊
Danny
I don't think hygiene is a priority in this cafe.

When this cafe isn't busy it seems the girls priority is to sit outside and smoke rather than work or clean up their messy area.
Stopped for a coffee this morning and one of the workers followed me inside after putting down her cigarette. I ordered the coffee and was curious to see whether she would wash her hands prior to making it, however she did not. Once finished she followed me outside and sat with the other staff member (possibly the owner) and picked up her cigarette and continued smoking.

Other occasions I watched the girls making sandwiches in full view of customers without gloves, touching their hair, constantly talking amongst themselves and using their long fingernails to pick up the fillings for the sandwiches! Absolute disgust!!!

I don't know what they are thinking...obviously not much! I have only ordered coffee the couple of times I've been (thankfully no food) and after seeing the above I will not be back. They have no idea how to work in hospitality and their attitude and lack of hygiene proves it.

Thankfully there are nicer and cleaner cafes around the area where you can have great coffee and food with lovely staff.
Megan M
Nice little local for coffee - not sure what happened with some of the other reviewers (obviously a different time of day or different person) but the lady that served me was lovely, and was quick service. I also had the salmon bagel - hard to go wrong with a smoked salmon bagel really, keen to try this place again - for the pulled pork burger next time!
Christopher James
Am i bothering you?

You know that feeling some people in hospitality give you where you feel like a nuisance just for being in their cafe or establishment?

Well i have been here on numerous occasions and service at this place is a mere afterthought with the girls that run this place.

Maybe they have lost their passion or maybe its complacency but they convey a sense that they would rather not be doing what they are doing which doesn't exactly draw you to the place.

Coffee is ok and the food is reasonable but with such competition around preston and coburg they should really look at improving the service and the coffee if they want to flourish at what they do.
Troy
This used to be one of my favourite places to eat breakfast.. But the last handful of times I've gone there it's gotten worse and worse!
The service is slow, our last time (and this will be the last time returning here) we waited around 15-20 minutes to get menus.. And even then we only got them because we were about to walk out and a waiter caught us on the way out, then waited around 30-40 minutes for our breakfast
In a place that has hardly any customers in it.
So so disappointing because this place used to be great. I definitely won't be returning.
Allana
In my mind it's one of the best cafes in Preston. Some different menu items including a delicious breakfast burrito and even their version of the Big Mac. Worth a visit. Coffee is good too.
Arnold Keith
Nice coffee, a unique menu and friendly customer service.

I have been to this cafe many times since they have opened & keep returning due to their fantastic menu & wonderful service! I am extremely fussy & my needs are always catered for willingly.
I have never been to a cafe with such a positive, welcoming vibe!
Keep up the good work!

Coffee not bad. Two amigos breakfast not bad. Service not bad. Loved my first visit a year ago. Not too wowed this time around. Would go back for a take away coffee though.
666monkeyboy
Good strong coffee as ordered.

No complaints about the Canadian Pancakes & Bacon special on offer. A soft, golden layered island of pancakes & crispy bacon, surrounded by an ocean of maple syrup. Tasty and serving size was more than suffice.

Friendly, attentive service, fairly priced.

Hits the spot.

Be happy to go back for another coffee.

Amazing food, amazing coffee, amazing staff. :) I'm a regular customer and I always recommend this place to friends and family. Keep up the good work all of you.

Coffee is great but I would never eat there as the place is filthy. If only the girls stopped talking about what they did on the night before and picked up a broom or sponge!
Feed Me
Lovely staff. I really wanted to like this cafe as it's in a great location for us. Unfortunately the grubbiness was a major turn off. Windows were dirty, tables hadn't been wiped down, even the biscuit jars at the front were filthy.

The staff were lovely but stressed looking and the food was average to poor.

I left feeling a bit queezy, sorry.
Aneta N
The last time I came for brunch I was a little disappointed :( this was my third time here and I noticed some menu changes. Coffee was great as usual, but I didn't love their version eggs benedict... I would've loved some eggs and hollandaise with my chives! Not sure if they're trying to be a bit fancy, but simple flavours in this classic dish work best and I have been turned off chives for awhile...

Best cafe in Coburg North. Their coffee is honestly the best around. Great service and atmosphere. Love their breakfast menu and the presentation is spot on, together with being delicious. Highly recommend!

Cute atmosphere and good coffee. Service is a little too attentive. Was trying to have coffee with friends and must have been asked 10 times if we wanted to eat. No we didnt ...but do in the future. Food looks great and menu interesting

I don't think so.. Over ripe, stringy avocado smeared carelessly on bread is not avocado smash, guys. You had one chance to woo me and you failed.

Great coffee, great service & a delicious menu that we are slowly working our way through! A little gem!

Me, my 5 sisters and dear mum had lunch here today. Service was outstanding. The food impeccable. All plates were polished off and if it wasn't seen to be unladylike I would've licked the board my zucchini fritters were served on. Try them, they are amazing!!!!! Best fritters I've had in melbourne thus far. Around the table the other favourite dishes were the 48 hour marinated porterhouse wrap and the quinoa salad. Good wholesome food delivered with a smile. Obviously quality food at a good price and customer service are the order of the day here. We will all be returning with our other halves to try something else, if I can go past ordering the fritters again.
No need to travel to Fitzroy etc anymore this cafe is doing a better job than some of the inner city places I've tried.
Worth a mention also I had my toddler with me and this was no problem. High chair provided and I didn't feel like it was a burden having her there like I have been made to feel at some other pretentious cafes, so to the owners and staff thank you.
Speaking of the owners the husband of the husband and wife team was very accommodating to me asking to turn the aircon down a little....yes it was a hot day but it was cool in there :)
Also I saw him cleaning dishes, speaking to his staff respectfully and running around making sure all his customers were served and happy.
First time here but won't be the last.

This cafe no doubt has the best coffee in the local area.. Staff take the time to chat to their regular customers.. Food is fresh good and honest. Brownies and breakfast muffins are adorable and the vanilla slice deserves a bloody medal ... it does fresh squeezed juices ... Isn't that a must for a breakfast/ lunch joint ?... I don't get how no one else does that .. I'm a regular and lucky to have them in my street ... Thanks guys keep up the good work ... Mwahh xx

What a Gem!. I have been here a few times and always been impressed by the amazing fresh food. Staff is very friendly and very kid friendly. I loved the vibrant flavours of the corn fritters and my girls were blown away by the chocolate pancakes. Keep it up!!

My new default cafe!. I'm always happy to see cafes such as this sprouting up in unassuming corners of the northern suburbs - and even happier when they turn out to be good. Considering it's location in the sterile surrounds of Coburg Hill, I was pleasantly surprised to find The Elizabeth to be not only a charming little cafe, but also with quite a varied and tempting menu. Am yet to be disappointed by any of the meals I've ordered, they've been consistently colorful and tasty and generously portioned.
Personally have had no issues with service - I've been there during a packed Sunday service and our meals/coffee were pretty prompt.

My local. The food was quite good, reasonably priced. I thought the coffee was terrible but my partner loved his - staff were friendly but WHY were the cakes uncovered near the till - the person in front of me sneezed on them, and customers all reach over these cakes to pay.

Consistently good coffee which, although it shouldn't be, is hard to find, particularly in the northern burbs. Food really packs a punch too. Quality and well-priced. Staff are cool and always friendly - a great local.

Yummy coffee, as always!. I love coming into a cafe knowing that the coffee is consistently great! And the wait staff are very friendly :) although I have not tried the food, I have seen what comes out of that kitchen, and it looks amazing. Keep up the good work guys!

Best Brekkie Ive ever had. As I always pass through the Elizabeth street to work in city, I realised this cafe being busy from last couple of weeks so me and my wife decided to try the brekkie of our local street.
The staff member were so friendly even, we went on that busy period, they greet us and arranged a seat near the window.I ordered, The Chefs Choice and my wife, Huevous al benny. The food came so quick, and OMG !!!!! the presentation was just WOWWWW, the egg, I must say the best ever cooked, was in perfection.
The Chefs choice was so big, i felt like its worth to pay the price.
Really amazing guys, now we will come every saturday for sure.

Loves it. I am a regular at the Elizabeth and I could spend hours there, it's got a fun exciting environment, the staff are so friendly and interactive it feels like everybody is a big family. I also like the artwork in and out the cafe, there should be more!!

Good to see this cafe getting busier by the week. Ive seen it grow from 10 people a day to 200. Always busy, must be doing something right. I go there any time i get a chance and it never dissapoints. My mum never leaves the joint haha. Good one guys, keep it up. The decor is looking great.

A friend and I had been to The Elizabeth a while ago and enjoyed the experience however when returning recently we weren't so impressed, particularly when told that they no longer serve free range eggs. There is no acceptable reason for that, I can only imagine that it's to pull more profits, the prices haven't gone down to reflect the change. We won't be returning.

Love the look and feel of this cafe, really makes you feel at home with its friendly laid back ambience in the unique courtyard and comfy couches inside. Curled up with a book i enjoyed a fabulous coffee and amazing delicious gourmet brunch. A lot of variety to choose from and never disappoints! Will be back!

Went in today whilst in the area looking at properties across the road. Really loved the vibe i got. Food was really tasty and well priced. They roast their own coffee which was different but i can see why. Very nice flat white. Must bring friends. Little gem.

Don't bother! Service is terrible and food mediocre to say the least. Ordered the fritters and to my horror they were garnished with canned mango - terribly unhappy. This place really needs to lift their game! In my opinion there are much better cafés in the Preston area which I'll continue going to!
Sara
I've been here a couple of times and love the atmosphere that the staff bring! such a good vibe from the moment I walk in! I highly recommend the crispy chicken on the lunch menu!
Belinda
So disappointed!. Hi there,
We just went for a meal at The Elizabeth today at lunch time, after a friend suggested it. I agree with a previous reviewer regarding first impressions. We thought the cafe looked nice from the outside. This was, in my opinion, the only positive. It seems like a family run business as the waiting staff (children) seemed relatively inexperienced and had little idea of how to tend to tables. We received no water and when we got our own the bottle had a chip and the rim was dusty - disgusting! My chai was from the powder which I could've accepted if the milk hadn't been burnt - I couldn't drink it. The fritter from the breakfast menu was sloppy and tasted of old oil and had all ingredients including mango plopped on top of it making it warm and scary - I took two mouthfuls and could not go on. There was no soap in the toilet dispenser in the ladies' room. On a positive note, my husband was able to finish his steak sandwich. I must say this experience was an incredible and frustrating waste of $45. I went to Baker's delight for a pizza roll to fill my stomach after this experience and that rated much better. This is the plain truth. We eat at cafes all around the Northern suburbs including those situated very close, such as Chesire and Lady Bower, and have never had an experience like this. Eating out is a luxury for us as I'm sure it is for many hard-working people so to be served with such disregard is so sad. Never again. Please take this criticism and improve your food and cleanliness. You stated that you would take criticism in good faith in a previous post rather than be defensive and I hope you can.

Very disappointed! Went to 'The Elizabeth' after someone had recommended it and also having seen how well it rated. Our bad experience began from the moment we walked in. 10-15mins after we sat ourselves down, not one of the 3 waiting staff had even noticed we walked in, so we just decided to help ourselves to a menu. Eventually a staff member cleaning a nearby table asked if we had been served & took our order, only to approach us 5 mins later to clarify which coffee we wanted to order. Although we didn't have to wait too long for our food, I'd have to say our appetites were short lived after noticing how unclean the cafe was, from their grotty bench-top to the dirty cake display window. Overall an unpleasant dining experience.

Has become a regular stop. Never disappointing but always hard to decide what to choose from the delicious menu! Do your self a favour and visit the Liz!

We went there today for the first time. It was around 12:30 and you still could order breakfast! Which is awesome. Wide range menu.
Love their latte! It was great. We ordered one steak sandwich and the passion pancakes. They look great and taste lovely! Sunny weather has brighten the moment :) We're definitely coming back for another weekend :)

We had a booking of 8 booked and may I say everyone was pleased with the service and food. Delicious breakfast, great portions and we had a really friendly waitress who memorised our orders. 10 points for the coffee :)

Disappointing. I have been to the Elizabeth St cafe a few times. Obviously I have enjoyed it as I've kept going back. But after I was put off by this incident...

I'd ordered my meal and a coffee and asked for the coffee to be brought to me after my meal. But the coffee was brought out first, and I told the waitress that I wanted it after. No big deal. But after I had finished my meal, the exact same coffee was delivered to me. COLD!
