Review Mama Wong's Kitchen - Coburg

Our go to when we misses home. It has been our favorite restaurant ever since we tried it few years back and we have been regular. The lemon chicken is amazing and beats other places hands down. Everything in the menu is superb. Owners keeps the place very clean and neat which makes dining a pleasant experience. Uncle John single handedly cooks for all the customer and yet food is being served in a reasonable amount of time. The owners are amazing friendly couple who even goes the extra miles to provide salah area for their customers.

There is one incredibly rude lady works here who serves the customer. We walk in to the restaurant and she ask us we have bookings or not. The way she asked us we thought we did such a big crime by not booking in advance. She could have ask that properly. Then we had to wait outside in rain even though there were plenty of empty table. Food was good but the behaviour of the staff deserve 0 star.

I wish I can give this place 7 stars. My family and I really love Mama Wong restaurant. We have been their loyal customers since they were on Flinders Street. The food is really nice, tasty, fresh and authentic. Prices very affordable. Venue is very pleasant, extremely clean and perfect for family and friends gatherings.

Despite that the food there is usually Ok, be careful and keep in mind that you may not get a pleasant customer experience as you may be maltreated. The waitress is rude and can treat customers poorly, showing no courtesy towards her customers at all. She shouts at customers from accross the room, to tell them off, infront of all customers, to everyone's shock! Instead of walking over to the customers and speaking respectfully, she is fine with this behavior and doesn't seem to regard customer's feedback. Once, she scared our young children, by raising her voice at us from accross the room , only for coming to the restaurant 10 minutes later than our booking! While we have appologised for being a tiny bit late due to traffic, she was talking to us as if she was a warden, and as if we have committed a crime. The treatment is usually unpleasant and unwelcoming . They would police your young children for making any normal movements, or for being themselves. They can cross the line at times and talk to customers in a derogatory way. The food may be good but that may not be worth the bad experience. Just be prepared that you are unlikely to have a very pleasant customer experience and may be occasionally maltreated and that may spoil your evening!

Customer service 0 Both the girls were literally fighting with each other, and talking to us as if karen serving for worst customer service 😂 vibe was really off Food wise it was okey, chicken pcs were too big, giving 3 stars for pricing as it was reasonable and they don’t use MSG, which is plus for me, as my acidity goes crazy when I have Msg. Also it is 100% halal no use of pork and hand slaughter chicken. But won’t return back, i really prefer welcomed when going for dine in.

Food didn't taste authentic and lacked flavour

Twice now have gone and they have stated they were closed - 40 minutes before closing time. Sure, the restaurant was empty and they probably wanted to get home. Not surprised. Not impressed.

I liked the food better compared to most Indian restaurants that serve Chinese. This food was more authentic and not just lots of spice and confused flavors like the others.

Plus points- halal and no msg.

Menu was average very limited in terms of soups. Starters weren’t in variety either.
We ordered noodles which were really really dry (although the server did warn us about it, we didn’t think it would be so dry! Maybe they can make it slightly better?) so we ordered chicken oyster sauce gravy to go with it. It didn’t have much flavor and was just too many veggies and scarce gravy. average I’d say.
Fried rice was good.
Chicken soup was ok too.
We asked for the soup to be split in 2 bowls to share and they just refused and got us the extra bowl to do it ourself. Why? I don’t understand.

Average flavours, got the mi goreng and the prawns tasted de frosted and the spring rolls there were terrible.
Like the overall dish wasn't bad but I wouldn't spend my money there again

Very clean, large portion sizes and good quality food! Very nice and fast service. Surprisingly cheap.
Mie Goreng and Satay Chicken was very flavoursome. Great place!

Food was okay but let down by extremely slow and poor service - waiter over an hour for our food and watched people who ordered after us get their food well before us, and it was the same meal. When the meals finally came out the two of them came out 20 mins apart - not ideal
I had really high hopes for this place.
It was ok.
Food came out really quickly and was cooked well with good ingredients. Unfortunately the dishes were all a little bland and the serving sizes were rather small. I would go back but not in a rush.

You won't get better Chinese at this price. And I'm sure even if you pay more it may not be as good. Super fresh, cooked right there for you in the open kitchen, good range to choose from, top service (fast, friendly). Dim sims are home made and it's very easy to tell as they are very tasty. Generous sized serves, there's nothing here not to like. Have been here a few times now.

Worst food wasted 25 dollars in my 3rd trip.

Lame Asian food in the name of HALAL.This is not the real

If you want more veggies they stuff you up with potatos and tomatoes..

Light green spring onions on soup. Staff is ready to let you out.

Fake Chinese malaysian food..REHEATED and microwaved food..

Fake asian food in MELBOURNE

Highly not recommended

Mama Wong's Kitchen has long established their reputation for being one of the very few (perhaps the only Halal Chinese Restaurant ) in Melbourne. However, due to unforseen circumstances they have had to close down on Flinders St CBD in late June and relocate elsewhere. The good news is that they have just opened their doors a few nights ago in Coburg on Sydney Road with a better menu in a larger space accommodating families and bigger groups.

I am super impressed with their bright and bold new menu filled with pictures of their offerings so you know exactly what you're ordering. There are even diagrams inside to show you how to use a chopstick, in case you didn't know.

Mama Wong's Kitchen are offering the same items as before including a few additional extras so there's plenty to choose from and there's something for everyone. Their prices also have not increased which is a bonus! We went ahead with our usual favourites like the fried rice and lemon chicken and added some stir fry dishes too. Taste and quality still the same and oh-so-delicious.

For dessert, you can try their Fried Ice Cream!

For authentic Chinese food in Melbourne, head here!
(note they are only open for dinner weekdays, but lunch and dinner on weekends)

Read more reviews at mmatcommunity.com
