I was invited to my friend's birthday at this restaurant. My favourite dish was the Chapali - I think that is what they called it. It is like a massive hamburger as big as a pancake. The meat was tender, soft and the mince was diced so finely that it really should have been call "The Aussie/ Pakistani Hamburger" - just melted in my mouth. The fish dish was so tasty and the crunchy home made warm bread straight out of the kitchen was delicious. The hosts were quick, friendly and accommodating to my poor palate for Spicy food and the food came out quickly and very freshly cooked. Highly recommend and will definitely return in the near future with my family and friends. Thanks for the Pakistan cuisine experience. See you soon!

Excellent service and food was delicious specially the batair... they were marinated to perfection. Daal chawal, shami kebab, karelay gosht, bbq platter were all perfect and were served hot and fresh. Roti and naan were soft and cooked perfectly. At the end, kashmiri chai was the cherry on top for a rainy night. Will definitely visit again.

One of the best Pakistani restaurant in town. Friendly staff and amazing service. Had a Aftaar Buffet today. Everything they had in menu was super tasty and fresh. If your looking for pure Lahori Taste, do give them a chance... Highly recommended !! 👍🏻

Aussie Dera Pakistani Restaurant located on 78 Sydney Road Coburg VIC being going there when it was opened almost 4 years ago a new management has taken over and promised to make the best tasting food we ordered almost everything from the menu as in Chapli kebabs Quail platter with seekh kebabs Lahori Fried Fish Chicken Korma Chicken Biryani Mutton Karahi Chicken Karahi Paneer Karahi the best amongst the all were chapli kebabs and Quail chapli kebabs were soft and juciy and were cooked to perfection BBQ Quail is rare to find at any restaurant and it was so delicious lahori fish was another best item from the menu. normally restaurants put more batter and less meat but they had it more meat which makes it so yummy karahi needs improvement. it was lacking the flavours of traditional pakistani style... nevertheless it was ok.. management staff is very courteous. they will cook fresh good as you order so prior to go there ordering is suggested to save sometime we visited with 8 different people twice and tried different items from the menu overall it was a good dine out... street parking is available on Sydney which is free

I have always gone to Aussie Dera for breakfast only, on weekends. They usually open late, sometimes even later than their advertised time. Their service isn't the best. There's always one or two girls working in the kitchen AND serving. But no worries because their food makes up for it. Food is always fresh and served piping hot. It is the best place we've found for halwa Puri nashta. If you're looking for an authentic Pakistani breakfast, this is the place to go.

If you ask them to make it spicy, they give u spicy. Perfect amount of all spices. Loved all the dishes I have ever had in aussie dera!

Aussie Dera is my favourite restaurant in Melbourne. It's incredibly tasty, and there's a great variety of food types - biryani, curries, bbq, breakfasts - and all so affordable. The $28 deal is enough to feed 2 for dinner and lunch the next day. Banquets for 3 or 4 people come with such a variety of items.

I love Aussie Dera so much that I held my birthday party for 20 people here. It worked entirely smoothly as a function space.

Just writing this review makes me want to order Tawa Chicken. Thanks, Aussie Dera!

Great place for authentic Pakistani food!! Not sure about other items on menu, but Beef Nihari & goat kadhai with garlic naan are must try's. We only order these from aussie dera

This is one of those times when Zomato failed me miserably! Saw the good reviews and turned up on a Saturday evening. Expected a packed restaurant but we were the only party there. The place was pretty clean though. Ordered a goat biryani, sheek kababs, rotis, teas and a onion and cucumber salad. The sheek kababs and rotis were good. Then it all went south! This was arguably the worst biryani we’ve tasted in years. Dry and tasteless. And no its not due to the type of biryani. There are several variations of biryani in the region and none taste remotely as sad as far as I know. The salad was clearly from at least hours ago. The cucumber slices were dry. This happens when its cut and kept aside for a long time. Anyway, the service was okay but we were literally the only table they had to tend to. The front door doesn’t shut properly once opened and so do not sit anywhere close to it if its cold outside. I give this place a 2.5

All in all, the next time I am in the area, I will try ‘Lazzat Kadah’ just up the road if I get a craving for Pakistani food. Will maybe give this one more go in the distant future. I hope this was a bad day for them and they really are much better than this.

Had the best Pakistani food till now in Melbourne. We were looking for one in Melbourne since our move here, and finally a place where the food had soul!
Each dish is given its own due treatment, and sticks to it's true self, instead of the same gravy for all the dishes. We ordered two thalis with 4 different curries and each dish had a unique flavour. And that too complete value for money, where each thali had proper biryani rice (instead of plain rice) and the best Naan we had so far in Melbourne.
The pink Kashmiri Tea with dry fruits and the Kulfa were a delight too. The owner, Usman was an amazing Gentleman who gave us personal attention and we had the most interesting conversation on his idea behind Aussie Dera.
Truly an under appreciated gem and a delight for foodies who understand the delicate Pakistani taste!

I've been here many times because this place is one of few restaurant open late.
Chai is very thick and rich. It has great deep flavour.
Some dishes are missing some flavours. Most of dishes need to add more fresh ingredients to bring up the taste.
All staff are quiet, very polite and knowledgeable.

I went into Aussie Dera with very high expectations for good, wholesome Pakistani food since some friends spoke highly of the food.

Ambiance: We went in for dinner after dark on a very cold night. The place should have been well lit, warm and inviting. However, it was cold and austere, very dimly lit, and lacked an inviting vibe. The art work behind us was hanging on for dear life with one screw and tape.

Food: We ordered a Chicken Biryani and a Nihari as a first time order. I asked for "chai" and surprisingly, for a Pakistani place, they did not have any.

As pictured, the first thing I notice about the Biryani was the super short grain rice. This did not look like Basmati rice to me, which is what is supposed to be used to make an authentic biryani.

Second, the 'garnish' of the rice was thickly sliced Jalapeno chillis. Definitely not a pakistani touch, and the chillis was flavourless instead of spicy.

The rice itself along with the chicken tasted much more like bland Pulao where the chicken is dry and chewey.

The Nihari, in my opinion, was much better. The meat was tender and easy to chew and the gravy tasted authentic. However, based on the lackluser Biryani, I cannot guarentee if nihari was cooked for long hours the way authentic nihari is made.

Price: Approx. $30 for two people.

Recommendations:

1. Re-do the Biryani recipe.

2. Have better-trained servers who are knowledgeable about the menu, ingredients, and substitutions for people with food allergies or intolerances, in particular.

TOO MUCH OIL!! TASTELESS!!

I am a regular customer. Yesterday ordered alu ghobi which had absolutely no spice, looked pale and lacked taste with too much oil. The gobi was floating in oil. I also ordered saag chicken- chicken had bones, no salt, no chilli and no taste.

Writing this as I am eating... Botti Chicken to be tried definitely suggested. Biriyani is like any other Pakistani style.. Good food and will come again.

Everything was nice but the container of curry was only half full. Rice was fragant and noce colour, not clunky. Not much chicken in the curry either.

Worst food. Last night we ordered palak paneer and we went for pick up our order they said sorry we don't have palak paneer and gave us chana daal😠. Naan were also not properly cooked.worst thing we order raita and they clearly show on menu onion and tomato would be in that but it was just plain raita with mint sauce in it. Will never order anything.

First time there on a weekend night (early). Customer service was good, very helpful in choosing the dishes on the menu, even admitted the rice on that day were not good. Ambiance was decent, cleanliness was 8/10. Ordered chicken haleem (6.5/10), mutton karahi (7/10); was more like mutton masala but not bad, masala rice (4/10); we were warned but still got some anyway, beef seekh kabab (8.5/10) and naans (9/10); were fresh and good. I would recommend the place for budget Paki food and if not looking for a wow factor.

Worst restaurant, sorry can't be called restaurant its road side dhaba (eatery). Bad service, irresponsible staff. Staff did not paid attention when we want to order, when noticed she said wait 2 minutes let me do my things first. Asked for palak paneer and garlic naan. Got butter naan and saag. When we asked about paneer staff said we r out of it i have added cheese insted i can't get it from home now. No garlic on naan. Was thinking of getting haleem and nihari as takeaway but dropped idea later. Should be given negative 5 rating but there is no negative rating. Will kill the person who will refer me this dhaba again.

Best pakistani food I have had in Melbourne so far. Goat karahi is amazing! Their food is always consistent in taste and is fresh.
Staff are helpful as well.
Great place for take away as well.
Sammy
Great tasting food. I've had food here a couple of time and the taste was good both times. Goat kadhai is amazing and so is the haleem.

Overcharged at the end for somthing we didnt even order. All in all a pathetic experience and would not recomend to anyone. Heaps of good Indian rests on sydney road but aussie dera. Guys you need to LIFT YOU GAME!!!!

The worst restaurant ever. Only one waiter serving the whole restaurant. No staff. No customer service. Bad experience.

Taste was good but food was half cold. Ordered chicken saag (spinach) curry, I waited almost an hour even though was not too busy. The chicken was mostly bones I only felt full because of the two good sized naans. For some reason half of the meal was cold especially the chicken,I only enjoyed the spinach gravy.

Never again. Ordered home delivery at 7.15pm on Friday, estimated delivery time once paid was 8.40pm... Called just before nine when it hadn't arrived, and twice more - each time were told it was on its way. Eventually arrived at 9.45pm.

The driver did apologise (he ran out of petrol) but he almost forgot the lassi. He came back with it, to his credit. These things happen, but the way it was handled and communicated was terrible.

We were hoping the food would make up for it somewhat, but it was not at all what we had anticipated. The lamb skewers were mushy and coated your mouth. Chicken was a bit random. The naan was fine. Annoying to pay almost $40 to wait 2.5 hours and then leave half of it untouched.

Pakistani food was amazing. I had the BBQ platter including fish on Sunday 1st September, and tried many other side dishes. I was so happy with all the flavour and spices.
I heard a lady say "this food tastes so fresh" on the table next to me and I agree with her the food was really nice and fresh.
For dessert I had halva it was awesome.
Warm and friendly atmosphere and great place to take my family.
I can't wait to go back again. Thank you to everyone at Aussie Dera

“delightful and delicious!. It was great experience to have a dinner from Aussie Dera with my family. I was surprised to see that the waiter was getting the order on Ipad. I ordered Bar B Que , haleem and Tawa chicken for dinner. Food was delicious, well prepared and nicely presented. It was the best food which I had it in Australia till now.
This restaurant is highly recommended for taste lovers!!!!

Highly Recommended ,LOVE it.......... BRUNCH:

I've had this place bookmarked forever and been wanting to stop by, and finally made it for brunch last weekend. Instantly one of my top brunch favorites in the entire city. Solid options for meal, side dishes, etc. In short, it's everything the ultimate brunch experience, love it!!!! We had a difficult time deciding because sooo many things on the menu looked awesome.
Trust me, I've tried a lot on their menu and I've NEVER been disappointed. The place has an amazing ambiance. The waiters are friendly and the service is great. It's just an all around fantastic brunch location and I'd recommend it to anyone who likes their meal to be perfect and satisfying.

Not impressed. Although the restaurant seemed busy, the service from the only waitress (who I assume is the wife of the family) was poor.. We were provided with water with no other option of drinks. Our food came to the table without any plates or cutlery by the time they arrived our meat dishes were cold which would assume they weren't that hot to begin with. Overall the meal was nothing to rave about & I won't be back in a hurry.
Sammy
Everytime I go there the food taste different they never have same taste for the same curry... It takes 45-50 min for the food to comes out and it's not even busy... The only think taste nice is the naan
Prince
All food items are old...vry bad services given...never ever go. Its good to enjoy some afghani food n the same area

During weekend had halwa puri channa breaky. It was lovely. Haleem and Naan also good. Good Service. Will definitely be back :)

A sumptous dinner everytime!. The first great thing about the eatery...is that it is open till late! This restaurant introduced us to Pakistani Cuisine :) If you thought the dishes in the menu sound similar to ones in an Indian restaurant, you need to taste it to realise the difference! Be it the plain naan or the spinach chicken...you are definitely in for a pleasant dinner everytime!
P.s. The generous usage of oil in the chicken gravy might not be to everyone's liking...but it sure does add to the flavor of the dish

Worst food EVER. I tried the food few times. the problem is the taste changed each time we eat the same dish. Means doesn't have a professional chef. use those box spices available at indian spice marts. And the food most times looks rotten. Even if u are the only 1 in Ausi dera it takes 30 min to 1 hour to complete the order. I am not going there again EVER.
Coburger
Not happening. Um, not sure how people have had take-away from here as they don't even have a take-away menu. That is, they say you can order from the menu & they'll do it take-away but they don't have a menu you can take home with you so you can phone your order in. Sorry Aussie Dera, but I'm not even going to bother if I have to go in to order then have to hang out there to wait for my food.
Soo
Went to Aussie Dera with friends who recommended it and was pleasantly surprised to encounter a really different menu to what is usually on offer and delicious food. Great service also. Looking forward to going back again.

Aussie Dera. We ordered Chick Haleem, Chicken Karahi, Beef Kabab and Lahore chargha. We find only beef kababs are good while Karahi is and Chargha is Ok and Haleem is not even Ok. Sitting is average.
Urbantaz
Delicious- love this place. "Pakka Pakistani" cuisine. The kulfi is perfect!!
Gem
Not fantastic. My aloo paratha had hardly any potato and my chickpea masala was cold! All after waiting 30+ mins for takeaway. The goat curry was delicious and tender though friends reported they got a fair few mouthfuls of gristle. It was also pretty bony.

Not sure why we waited so long for takeaway when it was empty when we arrived, though it did fill up not long after we got there with many keen for the Pakistani/Indian cuisine on offer. There some Western-style offerings too.
