Review Sakura Harbour Japanese Restaurant - Coffs Harbour

My partner and I have been dining at Sakura since we started dating in 2017. We hadn't been for a couple of years (due to COVID etc) but revisited last night for a dose of nostalgia. We were not disappointed. This is hands down, the best Japanese on the Coffs Coast. Service is friendly and efficient, menu is simple but of the highest quality. Recommend the sashimi platter and tatika beef washed down with some warm sake. Can't wait to go back.

I won't give low stars because I'm not petty. I was told 20 minutes for takeaway and it took 50 minutes. Food was great, but tell me an accurate time so I'm not standing around for 30 minutes.

Cannot say how disappointed we were. Standing waiting to be seated and the waitress went to clear one of the only tables left for us, table for 2. 3 people who we believe may have been regulars walked in and stood at the table being cleared for us. The waitress then made the comment that they were very busy and told us we would have to wait. Who knows what or who we are but that is extremely bad customer service and very bad critiques for that reason. Wont let me post without a star unfortuneately.

4.1 This is a casual and inexpensive Japanese cafe restaurant. But, don’t be fooled by that. They serve a couple of killer dishes here. Dishes that’d be at home in good Japanese restaurants anywhere. We received a lovely warm greeting on arrival. I’m not sure why but we were initially surprised at the plastic covered tables and the ordinarily presented menu with pages in plastic sleeves. Looking at the wine list made me even more worried. One riesling only and from New Zealand! It’s all done to fool us, I think. We started with Saki hakkaisan, a lovely drop. We were worried that some of the dishes here were overhyped. They’re not. We started with super fresh sashimi. The pieces were all quality and incredibly tender. Salmon and tuna presented in different ways Including seared. Melt in the mouth stuff. Presentation was not great, but all the pieces were superb. Best sashimi we’ve had for a while. Next, the agedashi tofu is just so flavorsome, silky and soft. We couldn’t get enough of this dish. The owner told us the secret of the softness of this tofu but we’re not telling. But, the vegetable gyoza was ordinary - a tiny bit bland and unsatisfying. Lifeless one of our party called it. The Katsu whiting on the other hand was delightful. Batter as light as a feather. Beautifully cooked fish that was still wonderfully moist. A really good dish. We finished with a beautiful miso soup. A cracking miso. The teriyaki salmon was fantastic as well. Great quality salmon only is used here. it was superbly cooked. Great combination with rice. A terrific way to finish. We had an excellent night here with some wonderful dishes. Service and attention was great throughout. Amazing value for $50 a head. Highly recommended.

Great Service! Friendly staff! Nice Sashimi, well displayed. However fire pork gyose was too soft. Okonomiyaki was missing kezuribushi! Have rooms to improve! Looking forward to come back for a better one!

Fantastic atmosphere, wonderful food and vary well mannered staff, what's not to like? The food was very delicious and felt almost familiar even though it was my first time trying it. The drinks were great. And the friendly smiles and great hospitality, added up to make a lasting impression. I plan to become a regular customer, that's for sure.

Undoubtedly the best sashimi out of Japan. I can not recommend this highly enough, the owner and staff are sensational. The food is divine and well priced. I'll be back this way for sure.

My Favourite Restaurant in Coffs Harbour, cannot go past the delicious Tonkatsu, Kara-age and Pork Gyoza. Friendly staff and a great environment! and they have take-away too! Cannot recommend this place enough!

Love love love the food here! Spot on fresh and delicious every time. Sashimi and gyozas a must! Fabulous service and to end the night the green tea ice-cream is heaven in a bowl!

This is the 1st time I have been to Coffs Harbour. My work colleagues picked this place to try. Wow !!! My 1st time also trying Japanese & it was amazing !!! The staff were very welcoming �

We dined on 2nd January 2017. Food was average to mediocre except the Tempura. The noodle dish was oily and not easily digestible. The service could improve. Finally we were charged 15% public holiday surcharge on a NON public holiday (2 Jan). Adjacent restaurants did not charge the surcharge. Summary: overpriced and not special. We will not be back and cannot recommend it.

Always a pleasure to eat here, authentic Japanese Tapas that is well priced and food quality is consistent. Friendly and attentive staff guarantee the experience to be a pleasant one.

This little restaurant is so fine. The menu is clear and does not need translation, but if you do need it the waiter or waitress can speak fluent Japanese as well as English. Please try this restaurant. The food is so fresh. Book a table as it is popular.

Just had dinner here for the second ocassion - awesome - best food - you will not regret booking here - always busy - be sure to book - sorry forgot to mention excellent service even when they r flat out.

Sakura Harbour catered my wife's 40th birthday party. The food was excellent. It's some of the best Japanese I've had outside Japan.

A great meal (Okonomiyaki) which truly exceeded all expectations. We will be back :-)
