New chef and new menu.....what a difference!! The food is delicious and matched with friendly staff, makes this a must visit in the Yarra Valley. I think the prices are very reasonable for a fine dining restaurant. Recommended.
The food, service and views are all just incredible here! I ordered the orange duck and it was just delectable, every mouthful I felt so happy to be eating it!!! (I’m a bit of a tragic food lover haha) but also the CHIPS! Sounds like an odd thing to rave about but they were so soft on the inside and so incredibly crunchy! And I forgot to take a photo but definitely order the chips if you go!!!!
Their wine is also delicious, my favourite is the Pinot Shiraz which the eccentric and lovable manger refers to as “pinaz!” And their fortified Tempranillo La Tentadora which is simply divine! Price wise it’s not the cheapest but the quality of our food was very much worth it and they have a 2 or 3 course option which includes wine and is a really good deal!
Friendly and attentive service. Food are delicious, just a bit of wait between two course though. We came with entertainment book so have one main course deducted and making it very good value in Yarra Valley fine dining settings. Do beware of google map, it brought us to Oakridge instead despite you type the restaurant name or exact address. The restaurant is indeed a little further away from where we see the oakridge road sign.
The food was to die for - chilli prawn pasta was delicious and the desserts were something else!
Restaurant was cosy, but tables far enough apart to feel like we were the only couple there.
Massive winner for a romantic night out.
Tokar Estate features a cellar door and restaurant, set in a quiet, beautiful area with views over the Yarra Valley and their formal rose garden. The intimate restaurant is stylish and comfortable, ideal for smaller groups. If you are visiting in good weather, ask for a table on the deck. We had the barramundi and pork belly. The barramundi was perfect, crispy skin and nicely cooked - not overdone! The pork belly was succulent and well seasoned. Staff were friendly and professional, the only hiccup being one meal was severely delayed, however their gift of a bottle of wine more than made up for it. If you want to get away from all the wineries frequented by bus tours, Tokar is a great choice!
Really beautiful surroundings and worth the trip to the Yarra Valley! Staff were excellent, friendly and helpful. The 3 course option was good value! Food presented beautifully and timed well between courses. Loved the welcoming warm bread with olive oil and dukkah!
Have been here about 4 times over the last couple of years. Very good food here ... service is very friendly as well. Definitely worth a visit. You won’t be disappointed.
We have been this place without any plan but just because I was too starving at that time plus we didn’t want to go to the crowded wineries around that area plus the little white building got my attention.
The food was bit more than casual dining, but the tables are bit closed to each other. The ladies sitting next to our table impressed me lots because they were too talkative and loudly, then it made me forget about enjoying the yum in front of me.
Overall is still good. The service 👍🏻
Tokar ticked all the boxes for us.
Informal friendly service, great food from ‘minimalist’ menu, excellent Tokar (local) wines and expansive views of the Yarra Valley. All for a
price that is reasonable for an upmarket venue.
I maybe biased as I grew up in the Yarra Valley, but for me it beats any other wine district in Australia 🇦🇺. Tokar is a great start if you haven’t been there before.
For $55 the food was as expected, the service was good. Two of u tried each other’s food, so I got to try the calamari entree which was delish, my ocean trout entree wasn’t too shabby either. Mains we tried the spring veg risotto, pretty solid; the steak had a nice char grilled flavour. For dessert we had the white chocolate cheesecake which was just wayyyy too sweet, so we only had a bite each. The cheese platter w Brie was good, the fruit bread was slightly stodgey.
Great location, surroundings, service and most importantly food.
We had the two course package which works out to be good value with a glass of wine included
Couldn't fault the food and the waiter was very knowledgable about the menu and all the wines.
Would happily return again.
Assistance with tasting very good. Smart arse comment when purchasing a single bottlenof wine not appreciated. Tasting area does not take advantage of amazing views - missed opportunity.
Forgot to take pic of my friend's food, but mine (pork belly) was divine. It was melt-in-your-mouth with the sauce absorb into the meat. The rocket salad and pickle was refreshing and compliment the pork, the wine was not my preference though.
The view was amazing and the service was good as well. Definitely will go back to try their other foods.
The dining room at Tokar is worth a stop when out and about in the Yarra Valley. The menu offers a wide selection and the presentation and service is wonderful.
Visited here couple of times. The first and second visit were just beautiful. Great food and wine! The jamon and cheeses were great! Absolutely going back and for sure will enjoy great tasty food and wine!
Score: 76/100
Category: Winery Mediterranean/Australian
Cost: $75 per person Valentines Day
This winery estate in the Yarra Valley region is beautiful and serves great food. Took my better half here to enjoy Valentine's Day menu lunch.
Staff were very friendly at all times, and the choices of food on the menu were plentiful.
In the end, we chose the chorizo croquet, and caprese sales for entrée; medium rare porterhouse steak and gnocchi for main, and the beautiful dessert platter.
The caprese was fresh with heirloom tomatoes and fresh basil, but cheese was a little firmer than I would like. The chorizo croquet was a definite winner!
The steak was smokey and well charred but still tender and pink inside. The gnocchi flavors were good, but unfortunately the gnocchi texture was too stringy, overworked with too much gluten released.
The winner on the dessert platter was the panacotta with the famous wobble.
Wines with the meal included a sparkling rose which was great, and of note their 2014 cab sav was a fantastic match for the steak.
Fantastic. The food was the perfect compliment to the wine. The panna cotta was the winner. It was sweet without being too sweet. And the food was cooked to perfection. The people here are so friendly and the views are amazing.
Sitting on a small hill , that provides great views over the Yarra Valley , Tokar Estate Winery & Restaurant offers a great setting to while away an afternoon . We sat outside ( inside was booked out ) which allowed us to enjoy the view first hand . The small but impressive menu provides something that will suit most palettes . We selected several entrees that we shared and then chose individual mains .
The food and the service was excellent . Meals were delivered to the table with nice timing allowing us time to savour each course and the beautiful wine . We had our grandsons with us ( 12 & 8 YO ) and they were made to feel welcome and a little special ( a nice touch that didn't go unnoticed )
A nice coffee finished off what was a lovely lunch .
We would recommend Tokar as a place to stop for lunch while touring the beautiful Yarra Valley Area ..... but make sure you book well in advance ( we were lucky to get a last minute booking )
Sunday lunch at Tokar Estate was an amazingly sublime experience. The waitress was attentive and ensured that our every need was met. The food delicious and portion sizes almost too generous. Dessert is a must!! The wine, sublime! Beautiful view over the Yarra Valley from our table, this is a must go to.
Hard to Do Better Than This Yarra Valley Gem. Beautifully situated in the Yarra Valley with incredible views from the terrace. Professional, relaxed & friendly service and great food coming from the kitchen. Reasonable prices for the quality of food, and the wine prices are very fair too. Ideal place to take overseas visitors - particularly if the weather permits outdoor dining. Already looking forward to returning next summer!
We have eaten here a few times now, it's always fantastic. Great view, great staff, great food - just great all round.
Food is fresh, cooked with skill and compliments the high standard of the Yarra valley eateries. Keep up the good work.
Food was very nice and lovely ambience too with classical music playing in the background. Salmon was cooked well and tasty.
Yarra Valley Gem. Reading some of the reviews we were a little sceptical. However, our worries were allayed when we sat down at our table. The view over the valley was gorgeous and the food was great. Less bread than I would have liked considering we waited 20 minutes for our entrees, however it was probably a good thing in hindsight as I usually fill myself up on the yummy stuff! The staff looked run off their feet and so weren't as hospitable as I expected, but we definitely understand that given the restaurant was busy and it was a very warm day. The estate shiraz was amazing - I would recommend a glass to anyone coming for a lazy lunch. There are very few restaurants I would recommend in the Yarra Valley - this is one of them.
Excellent food, great service and awesome wine tasting. James poured us lots of wines to taste, he has an impressive amount of wine knowledge and treated us to extra wines to sample. The food was tasty, we had salmon and steak, and the bread was homemade and very more-ish. Go. Make sure you book, it gets rammed.
Nice food. Friendly service. Been here few times and enjoy it. BTW. We only been for lunch.
DELICIOUS! Served bread to start with which was house-made and delicious with balsamic and oil. I ordered the pumpkin gnocchi which was just beautiful, very tasty. Wait staff were great! Would definitely recommend!
Excellent food, wine and service in a lovely setting. Highly recommended
Dined at Tokar this evening, wonderful. Scenery was stunning on arrival, manicured gardens with the vineyard in the backround and rolling hills. The restaurant decor was simple, clean and fresh. Wait staff where polite and prompt on arrival. Service with a smile. Food was excellent, entrees we devine and well prosented, main were also excellent(we had the duck and wagu, which was delicious) the salmon our friends had was well cooked but could have used a fresh sauce just to give that extra zing, dessert were usually scrumptious. Staff bent over backwards to keep us happy,we even had an entertainment voucher which was an issue, I will be recommending this place to friends!
Idyllic location and beautifully cooked food. The owner seemed a tad bitter about running a business though.
First Impression Excellent.. Friends of ours recommended this restaurant to us. Being many years in the food service industry ourselves, our experience on Monday 23rd of July for the three of us, in this fine winery and eatery was excellent. The service was professional, friendly and not obtrusive. The food we had on the day was excellent. Our Atlantic Salmon for instance was perfectly cooked. The crispy skin of the salmon was used as a garnish and the salmon itself was perfectly cooked and sitting in what looked like a very light seafood minestroni. The fish was a little raw in the centre which is exactly like it should be, and as you flake the Salmon with your fork the pieces then cook in the stock (which is how it should be). The desert was a layered filo pastry custard served with a vanilla bean ice cream, which was also excellent.
The food we had at this venu on this day was far superior than some of the pretentious upmarket restaurants in the Yarra Valley. We will certainly be back. "Bravo".
Tokay is my favourite restaurant in Ybarra Glen. The place is homely and service is excellent and attentive. The lunch menu is fantastic and of great value. $35 include two courses and a glass of wine. The deconstructed apple crumble made my day
8ites Our Bites On Food
+4.5
The menu was simple and elegant and we did not see ourselves taking much time ordering lunch. As we were at a winery the mood for wine was there. Both of us browsed through Tokar Estate's Wine Range and Ms L. went straight for a Rosé, the Tempra Rosa ($6), while I took a Red, Shiraz ($8.5) . The first dish ordered was the Soup de Jour served
