Review Proud Mary Cafe - Collingwood

Brendan Wong
Having tried Proud Mary's coffee in different cafes in Sydney, I was so excited to visit their OG store in Melbourne. I had very positive first impressions: the staff were super friendly and welcoming. I ordered the potato hash, which had the perfect mix of protein and carbs, with bacon poached eggs and potatoes (obviously!). It was a tasty and filling dish. Of course, I didn't leave without having a coffee, which was excellent! I'll definitely be keen to come back again!

Service excellent despite the queue during weekend I find it worth. Be aware though there is surcharge on weekend. Long black always my preference, not many places made good espresso but this one here never fail. They offer 3 choices of coffee beans which I tried two top one which both really good! Not bitter but real fragrant of the natural beans. Tried their potato hash which Is still my favourite specially the thick cut bacon šŸ˜ šŸ¤¤

Pretty delicious food and coffee overall! But it was super busy so be prepared to line up for a bit. It also did charge me almond milk while I just ordered a skinny cap. Didnā€™t realised it until I checked the receipt later onā€¦

Great coffee, reasonable food, creative dishes that donā€™t always work, serving sizes sometimes small. No bookings on weekends, waitlist only.

Great breakfast and coffee :) I got the potato hash and it was cooked perfectly, perfectly poached eggs and lovely thick chunk of bacon that was super-tender. A good selection of coffee too.

Amazing coffee, one of the best cafe in Collingwood for sure. They also very famous in Thailand with Proudmary roaster. Love it

It's been a long time since the last visit. The menu wasn't as exotic compared to previous visits so it took a few passes to figure out what to eat for brunch and maximise the experience. The scrambled eggs in XO sauce came with Asian greens and a fried bread stick that's reminiscent of the Chinese doughnut. I'd opted for a rash of bacon as well, which was on the lean side, how I like it. XO sauce is one of my favourite flavours and you can't go wrong with it. The place looked just like how I remembered it. Staff were friendly and chirpy throughout the visit. This place is a haven for coffee lovers, a great place for connoisseurs to check out the diverse range of brews.

Coffee was good and the staff were friendly. While I was pretty impressed, there were a few not so good things. I had the potato rosti dish. It was quite yum. Others had avocado on toast. One person on my table found the hot chocolate to be like warm milk and not very tasty. Overall for what we got, it was a little pricey. Reasonably easy to get to and plenty of parking near by. 1 he free spots worked okay.

Fast delicious rowdy perfect. I had the hash brown kale egg breakfast dish that comes swimming in the MOST plate lickingly fabulous garlic anchovy cream. I still wake in the night thinking about the bit I did not finish because the serve was so generous. Coffee was fine. Service was fast and civil. The place is capital N Noisy when busy. But who needs conversation when the food it that inventive?

The coffee is to die for, the most beautifully presented breakfast I have ever had and the staff absolutely gorgeous.

We worked from there yesterday, and it was pretty chill. Service was attentive but not overbearing. I had the fruit salad for lunch and it was beautiful. The baked ricotta perfectly complimented the stewed fruit. The crunchy nuts added lovely texture. I could have done with some more lemon in the ricotta as I LOVE lemon. The music was great and the sunshine on our backs was comforting.

To die for breakfast of potato roti, kale, bacon, poached eggs and anchovies and garlic sauce. Coffee excellent. The 3 of us all enjoyed it.

One of the best coffees I ever had can't recommend enough

There's this waitress who had an accent that was wearing glasses and she was incredible! So friendly when i went there this morning. I was really happy after the whole experience. Great cafe ļæ½ļæ½ļæ½

Read an article online on their Indian inspired french toast, it did not disappoint! Wished there was more of it though. Their coffee was good too. Great service

Came in for Father's Day brunch & everything was fantastic. The food was delicious & the service was warm & friendly. Will definitely be coming back to try more on the yummy menu

A friendly little cafe in Collingwood, the atmosphere was amazing, food was delicious and staff very friendly. Even though the place was packed staff gave us time to determine what we wanted and nothing was a problem. I look forward to going back soon. Job well done.

My wife and I enjoyed a child free breakfast this morning, beautiful coffee, we chatted away to two great baristas and had a really lovely experience, highly recommend, thanks very much guys, keep up the great work!

Great coffee... not much variety on breakfast menu. .we struggled to find 2 different dishes we wanted to try...lots with white potatoe ...
Osman ShaJahan
Good coffee, good food, good service. You just won me over.

Tough finding a place to park. Great service. A bit pricey.

We were greeted by two people as soon as we stepped in, almost in unison... The lady who ended up seating us and taking our orders though, came across as quite rushed/ task orientated. This made us feel like we were a hassle. Our orders came out quickly. My cold drip was the nicest I have had. The double ristretto, single origin Honduras blend, with honey notes, was quite smooth. We had a look at the food menu, it looked good, but we felt a little uncomfortable still, so we opted to eat somewhere else. The aesthetics of the cafe was relatively nice. A little average considering the cafe market these days... We will try this place again.

Wow excellent food; great service & so friendly. Couldn't do enough for us...we will be back on our next visit to Melbourne šŸ˜

Delicious coffee, great music, warm and welcoming vibe and super friendly service.

The hype about this place was amazing and although I'd been here previously and thought it a bit ho hum, I've returned and found it much better. This is why you can't take a place on just one visit. Proud Mary did the place Proud today.
I went for brunch and the place was jam packed with people, a little noisy but kinda had a funk going on that was enjoyable. Coffee was better than last time. Nice and hot and not too much froth. Eggs were nicely cooked and toast perfect.
Service - fabulous. Very attentive and despite being busy, they took our order quickly and service was fast. Thank you.
Notes: Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Parking is as you would expect in Collingwood.
Look forward to coming back again.

Always great atmosphere! Donā€™t understand the pretentious staff comments. All staff are always super friendly and helpful. Best cafe in Melbourne with the best coffee. Have been in for meals too and highly recommend.
Jane
Coffee: Long Mac (5/5) and Almond Flat White (4/5 - the Almond Milk is sweetened and too sweet for my liking).

Avocado and Kim Chi Toast (4.5/5): This requires two pieces of toast to: 1) perfect the ratio of avocado:toast and 2) to justify the $18.50 cost. Nice presentation. Whipped miso tofu is very delicious.

Scrambled Brioche (4/5): Perfect serving size, eggs a touch too wet, would benefit from a sprinkle of chives or shallots to finish - for flavour and presentation.

Ambience: We sat at the bench, a pleasant, sunny spot. Ideal for car spotting and people watching. Friendly, quick service.

I met a mate here for some brekkie. The service is excellent, always and attentive.

I had a strong skinny latte which was perfect! Just hot enough to drink without being too hot that it burns your tongue. The coffee flavour was delicious and the latte had a lot of milk froth. I actually ordered 2 coffees and they were both perfect! 5/5.

Food wise I had scrambled eggs on Zeally Bay multigrain toast. The eggs were perfectly cooked, light, fluffy, milky ... yummo!! The toast was good too.

Overall this cafe is a must visit, itā€™s been consistently good since I was last there. But parking is limited to 1 hour so be careful.

January 2018 - original review
Called in here for Sunday brunch w my partner. The service was really efficient, and the coffee amazing!! It was one of the best coffees Iā€™ve had in some time.

And not surprisingly this place was selling t/a ground coffee by the bucketload!

For brunch I had a pork belly w watermelon salad which tasted Thai inspired and it was delicious! Yummmy hahaha

My partner had avocado and kimchi toast w a poached egg and a hash brown on the side. The hash brown was delicious as was the rest of the meal. That finished off w a fresh orange juice.

Wow, this was soooo good. Just perfect... happy days šŸ˜Š

When youā€™re in Collingwood youā€™re surrounded by countless amazing cafes so it is definitely hard to chose where to go. Proud Mary is a standout! Upon entering you will notice how trendy the cafe is and we were seated very quickly despite it being super busy. I ordered the aƧai Bircher which was delicious. Could not fault the dish and it was really filling. The coffee was spot on too! If you are in the area definitely pop in for a brew, you wonā€™t be disappointed.

Great food, outstanding coffee, good Melbourne service! French toast was delicious, almost cake like. Would definitely come back to try other dishes and for more coffee.
Eleanor
8/10! Great coffee roaster & cafe, one of my favorites in Collingwood.
Service : 10/10 all staffs are very friendly, attentive. They greeted us with warm smiles and despite the busy day, they made sure no one was ignored or forgotten.
Drinks: had long black and 2 soy lattes. The soy latte was really good, frothy yet strong, thus why we ordered the second one. Milk to coffee ratio for both lattes were perfect, very consistent despite being made by 2 different baristas.
Food: had the Hotcakes and French toast.
French toast was very delicious. The chocolate marscapone was smooth and full of chocolate flavor. Espresso flavor really stood out in the dish so it wasnā€™t too overpowered by chocolate.
The cheese whip on the Hotcakes was the highlight of the dish! Savoury tone added to the dish, dense yet light on the tastebuds. The Hotcakes itself was very fluffy, though a little bland. The crumble on top was nicely flavored, loved it! Only thing I didnā€™t like was the cucumber syrup, it was refreshing but too much, made the dish too watery and soggy.
Overall, a good place for brunch and a GREAT place for coffee.
Ellen
Exceptional food and service!!! Highly recommend this place for amazing coffee and food. Staff were very friendly and super helpful.
FoodieInMel
Heard a lots of good things about the place, however the coffee was not as good as we think, and the menu was a bit boring, service was average, its quite overrated.
Foodforthebrokensoul
Hash potatoes offered a nice combination of textures. There was some variability in the standard of dishes. My piece of bacon was a smaller and drier piece than the one my friend got on his plate. He also had two runny eggs while I had one egg that was cooked perfectly, but the other was overcooked. The kale salad was on the bland side. The bagda cauda was delicious and tied the dish up well.
Mustafa
I had a take away batch brew. I usually get a coffee from this place and most of the time i love it ! But this time was a disappointment. Coffee was not brewed well. It tasted awfully sour and under extracted.

We went here after we couldn't get into a few other places. Nice atmosphere and presentation of food, but unfortunately I kind of felt this was a style over substance place. I struggled to find something healthy to eat for brunch without going the Bircher Muesli. If they could offer some simpler, healthier options, as well as label the food in the front cabinet, that would probably increase the appeal.

Great brunch spot in Collingwood. Now one of the establishments, Proud Mary serves a unique style of delicious food with an always lively ambiance and great coffee. Check out their Instagram stories for a quick snap of their menu! My favourite is the cauli saag, seared salmon and potato hash šŸ˜‹
LifestyleByLily
If you work in Collingwood, Proud Mary is somewhere he probably frequent a couple of times of week if you are a coffee lover.

It is usually quite a busy place throughout the early morning and the duration of the day, but orders are taken quickly and coffees are given to customers just as fast which makes it a great option for a quick coffee, quite literally.

The only thing I would say is that it is a little more expensive than some of the other cafes in the area, however the coffee is pretty good!
FoodLoverQueenM
Is a nice place to have weekend brunch. Waiting for 15 mins is normal for weekend. A bit disappointed for coffee...but very impressed for food. Recommend for smash potato and bacon.

One of the best hotcakes Iā€™ve ever had as well as some of the BEST SERVICE Iā€™ve ever had!

FOOD & COFFEE: I ordered the Hotcake and I was truly blown away by how good and unique it was! Proud Maryā€™s menu isnā€™t like every other cafe, they take classic brunch dishes and they incorporate a spin on it and their hotcakes was one of the most special brunch dishes I have EVER had! The hotcake was cinammon spiced so it was almost carrot cake like, it was incredibly fluffy and flavourful but put it with the PUMPKIN cream cheese and it gives you this flavour explosion you probably have never had before! It was sour and sweet and it hit every single spot! Iā€™m usually not a honeycomb person because its too crumbly but Proud Mary used an amazing quality honeycomb that was slightly chewy and not overpoweringly sweet! The cold brew syrup photographed beautifully and everything about this dish was absolutely perfect! I would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone and everyone who visits Proud Mary and whoā€™s looking to try something more different than plain olā€™ hotcakes! The coffee was amazing as well with the nutty notes going so well with their soy milk! Their food and coffee was worth EVERY PENNY!

SERVICE: It doesnā€™t take alot for me to be pleased with a cafeā€™s service! A smile and being pleasant is all I need but Proud Maryā€™s crew went above and beyond to make every single customer feel so comfortable and happy! Service with a smile is key but their pleasant demeanour and preppy attitude made the experience all the more better! I was gonna give 5/5 solely on the food but Iā€™d give 10/5 because of their fabulous service

Proud Mary is truly a gem and not a cafe to be overlooked in the cafe scene. They offer an amazing and unique variety that doesnā€™t make you feel like youā€™re going to yet ANOTHER cafe but rather youā€™re trying some new flavours! Iā€™d definitely return and would for sure rank them as one of my top cafes šŸ„°

Well Proud Mary being one of my all time favourite songs by CCR, had to give this cafe a try during my visit to Melbourne. Tried their Pine Mushroom Corn Bread - so delicious. Good coffee too. Definitely going back and highly recommend.

Good food, good coffee, friendly staff and reasonable prices especially for the quality. If you're looking for a good feed at the 25 a head mark go no further

Delicious food and lovely people. The coffee is bang on. An all round great place that I always recommend to friends visiting from interstate

I just strolled into this corner cafe because it was raining, just wanting some toast. However, I got much for then that. The menu of Proud Mary is unique with combinations of flavours you never thought would be fabulous.
To be honest, I drool at the thought of the miso salmon and cream cheese. Canā€™t wait to go back again.
Jesse (The Ghost)
Iā€™m working in Collingwood atm (at the moment) and proud Maryā€™s is just like a 30m walk. (Havenā€™t actually measured it properly so donā€™t know the exact distance) Coffee 9.7/10

WOW what a fabulous lunch we had.
The fascinating presentation was followed by superb combinations of flavours. Our friends were so impressed also. The wait staff were attentive and super efficient.
We have been waiting for too long to eat at Proud Mary, but will return very soon.
Gabrielle Ebsworth
A great experience in Collingwood. The menu is creative but still retains the classic brunch food, the staff are lovely but not overbearing and all for a reasonable price. My favourite thing about Proud Mary is that itā€™s off the hustle and bustle of Smith St, allowing you to sit outside and soak up the sun (Melbourne weather rarely permitting though) without having to worry about nice from trams, cars and people pushing past on the sidewalk. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a great hidden gem of a cafe.
Ronda
Brunches in Melb have become a bore because everyone serves scrambled eggs, avocado on toast or something similar. Proud Maryā€™s is different, the hash (I forgot to take a photo) was refined and done just right and the Curry Roti with Potatoes is an interesting take on an Indian dish. Their coffee was fantastic, that goes without saying!

Not sure what all the fuss is about. Have been here three times now, first two times were not memorable but third time warrants this review.

Tried to order the kimchi smashed avocado (at 1:10pm on a Sunday), they didnā€™t have any left. Ok fair enough, not fussed Iā€™ll try the potato hash.

Ordered a cake on display for my partner, who was looking forward to a sweet treat. The chocolate and banana cake that came out was beyond disappointing. It was dry, chewy and not at all fresh. Already the lunch is ruined for my partner.

Potato hash was respectable - was good with rich flavour, but the poached eggs were solid and not runny. A cafe in Collingwood with 4.6 rating and they canā€™t even properly prepare poached eggs? Not good enough.

Incredibly disappointed, there are countless better cafes in Collingwood/Fitzroy area.

Came back to this place after so long. Ordered their Kimchi Avo & Skinny Cap. As usual their coffee is šŸ‘ŒšŸ» Service was great, but the Kimchi Avo was just so-so . Feels like the kimchi doesnt go well with the Avo.
Hon
This used to be my fave brunch.
The 'Hash' potato with bacon, spinach and bagna sauce is totally the bomb!
Great job Chef Kayne for created the menu!
Quince And Cheese
Had coffee here a few times, but the best by far was the free oat milk flat white I tried to promote Oatly, the best oat milk brand out there. For those who haven't tried, Oatly is a subtly sweet but neutral milk that froths just as well as dairy. Between the delcious product and the barista's expertise, I can confidently say this creamy cup was the best coffee I've had in ages. So excited to have more oat milk in my life (and a place that knows how to prepare it).

Maybe I ordered poorly, but I didn't find it to be nearly as good as the majority of the reviews suggest.Ā

Coffee: really good, but not enough to make this an automatic 5 stars. Appreciate providing the detail on the where the bean comes from.
Food: I had the scrambled roti. It was OK. Nothing special about the eggs, and it didn't really come together for me. The roti was too greasy, and it didn't fit right for a breakfast dish. Would recommend trying another dish.

This golden oldie of the brunch scene is located just around the corner from my work and boy am I lucky to be able to indulge in the MINDBLOWING potato hash weeklyā€¦on to that later though.Ā

Located just off busy Smith Street, Proud Mary really brings the inner city cool vibes to the otherwise quiet backstreets of Collingwood. Converted warehouse and some seriously swag staff make this place a curious example of what brunch used to be like before the cookie cutter approach of recent years.

Busy place but cozy. We ordered the dandan noodles and the hash. They are very understanding in catering for my friendā€™s allergy. Super helpful and let me just say that infused bacon broth for the dandan noodles was amazing.. I canā€™t fault it as I finished the meal till the last drop of the soup. DELICIOUS!
Mi55Bee
Really expensive coffee! We had 1 almond 1 soy and a decaf latte total bill was $17, what a joke. Not worth coming for a roasted coffee which is only alright
Some Bunee Loves Food
Really nice coffee here. I love my flat whites without sugar and this place delivered a flavorful non bitter coffee. Food was very delicious. The flavors are unique - not too sure what the side is, but goes well with the burger! Can someone tell me what it is? :) Next time! Love it here.

Proud Mary at Collingwood. One of my favourite decorated cafes in that area. Definitely a must try for their brunch. They even sell Dan Dan noodle a fusion Chinese cuisine. Very interesting.
Nelly
Well it's easy to see why this a popular haunt for the locals. If I lived or worked nearby I would be a frequent flyer too.

The food is scrumptious, the atmosphere is welcoming and the service is friendly. The menu is also full of choices, it was hard to decide, regardless of what we ended up with our plates were licked clean. Also enjoyed my well made cold drip.
Lady X
Came here specially to try the coffee since Iā€™ve heard good things about it. Coffee here definitely lives up to its name. I didnā€™t try the food so I canā€™t comment on it but menu looks like the standard cafe fare
Oodreiilittlepotato
Came here a year ago! Pretty sure the menu has change~ however i think i chose tooooooo healthy dishes. It does so healthy. But yeah i like it :)
Faye C
We ordered hash potatoes and zucchini pasta. Perfect portion with good flavor. I have to say proud Mary would definitely live up to the rating in Competitive Collingwood area
Vanessa
**3.5 stars** Not a bad experience overall. We were in and out of the place in less than an hour. Thereā€™s a good variety of dishes to choose from in the menu, which is great. We ordered the ā€˜mork chocolate french toastā€™ which was pretty nice but it just needed more vanilla creme and honey creme to balance the flavours and textures. The potato crisps were a bit random though... it didnā€™t match the rest of the plate. Similarly, the ā€˜asparagus and black riceā€™ was cooked well but the ratio was a little offā€¦ simply too much rice with not much flavour to support it. Meanwhile, the coffee here is strong. Service is good. Staff are friendly.

How have I not already reviewed Proud Mary? Itā€™s literally where we congregate monthly for Gossip with Tea.
Hot chocolates for me I suppose but you get the gist. Itā€™s like if Mary went to a cafe to talk smack about the other Collingwood establishments.

Staple of the potato hash which is literally a pile of fried deliciousness and bacon, why even would I vary my order?
Unless itā€™s to trade for that stack of ricotta hotcakes. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø
Kell
Why the hype and high rating for Proud Mary? Food was nothing special, especially the tiny salmon pate toastie with unsubstantial filling that costed me $19.50! I tried some of my partnerā€™s potato rosti and that was nothing to shout about either. Wait staff were friendly but there are more delicious food nearby! Thankful for Plug Nickel which was only a short walk away.
Cheryl Lee
I was there in July when it was freezing and windy. It was a pleasant feeling walking into the nice, cozy and bustling cafe. Had to wait 20 minutes or so for a table. Service was quick and efficient. Staff was friendly. Tables were a little too close together and a little rowdy. Prices were a little steep for the moderate food portion. I did find my quinoa salad an interesting combination though. Coffee was ok, tried better in other cafes in Melbourne.
A Choong
A wide selection counter offerings and menu choice. Not quite a family friendly place though with no high chair or kidā€™s menu. Tried the pork pretzel which was tasty. Housemade crisps added a nice side. The Mork chocolate French toast sounded promising but was rather bland. The bread itself was nice in texture but for such a thick cut, the accompanying sauce was hardly enough. The crisp felt out of place and there was insufficient vanilla creme or honeycomb. Overall a nice experience because of the proactive accommodating and efficient wait staff makes it worth another visit.

I was looking forward to seeing what Melbourneā€™s cafe scene has to offer. It was a corner cafe in the surrounding suburbs of the CBD, so we had to trek there from our accommodation. Backless stools and low tables made it uncomfortable for a long brunch. Staff and service were superb.

Piccolo - great strong coffee but slightly weaker than that of Plug Nickel.

Roast zucchini + spinach spaghetti - It looked amazing, but I was let down by the overcooked spaghetti.

Avocado + kimchi toast - Again looked amazing. Kimchi wasnā€™t fermented for too long and had less garlic, so you donā€™t have a bad breath after the meal. Otherwise, a standard avo toast.
Jamie
Went for a late Sunday lunch at around 2.30pm, and the cafe was still busy with people coming and going! Started the meal with a flat white and iced chocolate, both were well-made and enjoyable, and also ordered the pork pretzel and potato hash.
The pork pretzel was a delectable and fresh sandwich-y treat; the sauce especially was a great kick that really brought the dish together. The crisps were also light, tasty and crispy. My only critique would be that the sandwich was pretty small, and did not satisfy my partnerā€™s appetite.
The potato hash was also a lovely dish. You can taste the freshness of the ingredients, and despite the fact itā€™s made from fried crispy potato and has a great thick slice of bacon, was light. With the anchovy sauce as well however, ā€œsaltyā€ was the overwhelming flavour of the dish. Wish thereā€™d been an extra little hit or kick of something like the pretzel pork dish had.
Enjoyed our dining experience overall. The space is on the smaller side but vibrant and cosy, and service was good too.

One of my fave cafes in Melbourne for a delicious brunch and their amazing coffee makes it even more special. If youā€™re a coffee lover you have to visit.
The breakfast menu has all the classics - granola, Bircher etc but also has some unique takes on those classics. They pride themselves on fresh, in season produce and that really shines through in the dishes.
I recommend!
Jianierrrrrr
Proud Mary is one of the most famous cafe for great coffee and brunch in Melbourne. Havenā€™t been there for long time, I was impressed again by their quality of coffee and food during this visit.

Recently they introduce ā€œcoffee flightā€ -coffee tasting set includes three different coffee beans in three different way of brewing methods. You will get tasting notes about each coffee bean and pleasant caffeine overdose after you finish them. Highly recommend to coffee lovers!
The brunch menu was pretty interested as well, classic items but with very creative twists.

#scrambled roti#-golden puffy roti bread topped with scrambled potato&egg. Simple but delicious! The roti was really crunchy yet chewy. The scrambled egg had curry flavour, that was a nice surprise and match perfectly with the roti. One more roti bread please~~~

#avocado kimchi toast#-kimchi and avocado? Umm... not bad! It gave traditional avocado a little Asian fusion. The overall flavours was nice and I especially enjoyed the sesame dressing and sesame toast! Who donā€™t?!

There are still lots of nice dishes that I would love to try. Proud Mary will always on my list for brunch and definitely will go back for more!

I love the quiet corner in Collingwood where this cafe is located. The building has a lot of natural light and a tall ceiling that makes you feel like you are seated in a bright and spacious room. The wait staff are very friendly and knowledgeable on the menu items. We also changed our food order a few minutes after we put it in, because I looked over to the table beside me and got food envy. The waitress was happy to make the last minute change, and did not even fret it. Their known for their coffee roasting warehouse, and one of the waiters even gave us a full run down of one the filter V60 coffee that is currently on offer. Highly recommend trying it!Ā

We ordered the potato hash (the dish that gave me last minute food envy) and the hot cakes - I would order them again - loved each dish. We dropped the Mork chocolate french toast for the potato hash, I am sure the french toast would have been good, as well, but perhaps next time...
Virgil
Love this place but it can get quite busy! I recommend going early and avoiding peak times if you can. It's coffee is great and has been consistently great for years!! It is a classic cafe! Must go and try this place if you haven't yet!

A good place to visit in a small busy lane. The service is very good, not mess at all. Tried the chili scramble on roti, good creative dish. Tasty. Will come back again.
Shasha
My friend and I had an awesome brunch at this beautiful restaurant, we ordered toasts with scrambled egg and toasts with salmon. Food is fresh and coffee is perfect. Very friendly staff and good service make you definitely come back to here again. This is the place where lights up your Sunday.
JW
Proud Mary is a hip fresh Northern cafe with a communal interior and a few innovative menu items. Tried the pork pretzel and smoked salmon toastie. Toastie was very fresh, filling, well presented, and tasted great. Extra dollop of mayo was a tad unecessary. Pork pretzel made my imagination run wild but upon arrival was a simple sandwich situation. Taste was certainly there but the side crisps fell short - homemade which was great but inadequately seasoned. The interior was modern with a grandma chic twist but I felt that there were far too many communal tables, and wherever you sit you will inevitably be sitting with other couples or groups.
I'm still rating a 4 because I respect the innovation that Proud Mary is showing, and appreciate that they are experimenting with flavours that for the most part work out well.
Bites Of Melbourne
One of my fav coffee spots in the area
Funky cafe on a back street in collingwood
Great vegan options
Staff are always polite and helpful
Can get super busy
Would love to see more take away food options

Great coffee and good service. The menu is quite adventurous and a bit different. Very fresh and delicious. The food did take a long time to come out but would definately come back again.

Humble cafe with great coffee and food, making Melbourne proud! Came here some time ago and enjoyed the delicious meatballs with sauce. Would definitely go back for more
Leena
The coffee was so beautiful. They make so fresh impressive espresso.
All staff are quite knowledgeable about each coffee taste and served according to my liking.
Creamy rich natural flavors.
They get very fresh roasted coffee from their roasters on the coner and recommened to buy direct from there.

Dishes were also great. Selections of nuts combined with honey and caramel. It reminded me the place sell many different mixture of granola at Saporium in Sydney.
Eating Away Melbourne
Proud Mary is like a collingwood Icon cafe with beautiful industrial interior and really good coffee. Ordered the pancake and quite like the uniqueness of it. The pancake was fluffy and the sauce was not too sweet. A good start of the day!

This is actually not the first time that weā€™ve been here. Food have been always delicious. Beautiful cafe, good coffee, delicious food and wonderful friendly staffs. We have a 5 yo boy and heā€™s happy with the pork pretzel even though we should have ordered without the mustard. Delicious soft shell crab burger. Food delivered very fast and very efficient staffs.

Iā€™ve been to many brunch places and to say that Iā€™m impressed with a brunch place is a massive compliment. I went here with a friend yesterday for a catch-up. Itā€™s a cute place, echoing urban vibes, and I couldnā€™t have asked for a better place. The service was amazing, the waiters enthusiastically joined in my Instagram story (haha) and they constantly came back to ask us how the food was- all the all things matter!

I tried the peach salad. Presentation was very well done for a simple burger and a salad. The lighting was really good too- a bonus for an avid food photographer such as myself. The initial taste was amazing- considering it was a salad. It was dressed in buttermilk, which I thought worked really well with the rest of the dish. After a while, the taste became quite repetitive, so I had to steal some of my friendā€™s chips to break the taste of slight tartness with some salt.

All in all, definitely a place to visit!

Nice coffee and was surprised that the food was really nice as well! 5/5 for staff service and knowledge, every single one of them seemed to know what they were talking about and were very accommodating for our fussy group. Coffee was great but I think I got my hopes up too much because of their name. Great cafe to brunch at.

Visited earlier today with a friend. Ordered two large coffees and two items from the menu. Since we went during peak hour on a sunday it was quite busy - there was small wait for someplace to sit, but this is quite normal in Melbourne.Ā The 'large' coffees were HUGE - a great plus! It was a great start to what ended up being a good meal with generous servings. My friend received a well-presented bowl of granola with milk on the side, while I ordered the rosti. The pile of kale on top was a bit much for me, but a nearby patron who ordered the same dish didn't seem to mind. (Perhaps I have issues with too many leaves garnishing my food). My friend reported that the granola was very satisfying.
The generously-portioned coffee was of good quality; it is definitely worth a visit!

My friend recommend me to try this brunch spot. So i came and ordered;
1.cold soba noodle with salmon was really good! I did not expect that though. The salmon was perfectly cooked and the cold soba was perfectly seasoned and fresh!
2. Crab potato omelette was a bit dissapointing. Its too small and they gave me too much of the salad. However it taste good! The crab and potato perfectly seasoned and really flavourful.
3.Chai latte & Coffee was very well made too! Well done barista!

Regardless, the place and the ambience was nice, huge, open air & bright. The staff was very kind to me even though it was a very busy day.

So far, iā€™m really satisfied with the cafe and the food. Will come back for sure!

#BHASFoodDiary

I would give this cafe a 3.5. Coffee was strong (like we requested) and smooth. Poached eggs cooked perfectly. Scrambled eggs were a little oily. Overall, a solid breakfast. Venue is very noisy due to poor acoustics- would definitely benefit from some sound panelling!

Recommended by the waitress. It is so good!!
Not too sweet and with different layer taste. I thought the bottom layer was made by ginger biscuits, the second layer come with not too strong lemon cheese cake, the top of cream actually there is hidden fresh lemon custard inside the cream, strong and fresh.

The combination of this slice of cake is very impressive!

Very friendly and helpful service.

Dropped in for a quick brekkie and coffee. Asked for scrambled eggs instead of poached on potato hash meal which staff were pleasantly accommodating of. The meal was awesome! All the flavours went really well together, meal was hot and hash was crisp. So tasty! Great coffee too.

I used to come to proud marry for food and coffee and they were always spot on, the cafe used to be packed, last visit was abit disappointing not sure what happened, milky coffee and bland food. still come when I am in the areašŸ˜„

Always on point, best coffee in Melbourne, great service from friendly staff, great vibes, itā€™s amazing that a cafe can maintain such excellence for so long.

First time at Proud Mary and will be my last.

The service was pretty slow and me and my partner felt ignored by the staff as many of them looked at us but wouldnā€™t come to take our order until I eventually waved to one to come (15minutes to get served) and they wonā€™t even busy.

The coffee was very bitter (I did order strong but it had an awful bitterness to it) and no actual flavour or taste

I also ordered the French toast. It was tasteless and pretty disappointing.

Wow wee. Had a really amazing Bircher here
Place was packed service spot on. Worth the travel to this great place. Just wish it was a bigger venue as the problem is getting a seat.

Just came for a quick ordered a magic. It came out super fast. Decor simple and friendly. A touch loud with the juicer on but not unpleasant. The staff all lovely and friendly. Need to come back more often. Great coffee

Fell in love with their quirky and crazy fun interiors! The food was good too but I would try something else on my second visit. Had the Indian French toast and salmon on toast. Staff was very friendly! If you are a coffee lover must try their cold drip

Worst coffee in Melbourne... Maybe??? Yes! Asked for a side of cold soy! Hot soy milk arrived!! Everyone elseā€™s coffee was far too frothy for flat whites! OVERLY sincere wait-staff to the point of patronisation and even feeling uncomfortable. They even forgot our side of tomatoes. Somehow the food fell somewhere in between both incredibly rich and incredibly bland. It was the blurst of times.

Great lively vibe for Saturday brunch! Love the coffee and interesting menu. Watermelon and pork belly was tasty and refreshing. Was super fun sitting at the bar watching the baristas move at a crazy fast speed making drinks after drinks!

Great spot for brunch, nice and busy on a Saturday morning however the serving sizes vary too much some things are tiny and don't warrant the cost.

I think this place is over rated. Waited for more than half an hour for a table. The food came out quick, they were nice but donā€™t deserve 4.3 stat rating. Ordered watermelon and pork belly salad, the portion was small compared to a brunch serve that I normally get. It was basically roasted pork belly, watermelon cubes, cucumber, vietnamese mind and thai fusion dressing. It was light, fresh but not exceptional. My friends ordered the crab omelette, soba noodle and potato hash.
In overall, we were not impressed, especially after that long wait.

Sat at the bar because it was a busy Saturday morning. Right next to the coffee machine amongst the action. Great service. The sardines are excellent
Melbourne Food Journey
Nice interior and bustling vibe on the weekend. The food we ordered was not amazing however, just normal. The Indian French Toast was just like a cut up samosa and the wasabi dressing on the tofu soba noodles was a touch too strong.

Just been this morning and felt compelled to give these guys 5 stars. We come back here again and again because not only is the food/drinks consistently good, the customer service is always so warm and welcoming šŸ™ŒšŸ’•

I am amending this review. This dish is no longer affordable, & despite being told it has increased in size, it hadn't, infact there was LESS lentils than before. For $18.50, there needs to be a little more interest & generally MORE.Ā Didn't like the sultana addition either. Picture is of the $14 version

Previous - LOVE. The cauliflower dish is amazing. Affordable, filling & packed full of flavors & different textures such as crunchy lentils & soft pumpkin purƩe. The rye bread on the side was grainy & delish. Perfect compliment. Proud Mary coffee is the best (a bit expensive) but you are paying for quality at every level of the coffee bean process. Lovely ambiance & staff are super friendly & helpful

I was apartment hunting and funnily enough it overlooked Proud Mary. Be prepared to wait on Saturdays as it gets super busy. Portions on our dishes were on the smaller side but well thought out, always respect a dish that uses offcuts (I think it was pork jowl or cheek), really underappreciated and underrated. Hoping to revisit sometime to try out more!

Great brunch food! had the potato hash from here and it was so well cooked and paired up nicely with the smoked shoulder bacon and egg! Coffee is really great too!

Ah Proud Mary, it was one of the first hipster cafes that I ever stepped inside, back when bricke wall and warehouse-esque space was still a rarity. It also does one of my favourite coffees in Melbourne, so I was keen to visit the place again when a friend wanted to catch up around the Fitzroy area.

y'all have a sweet server. the blonde, wears a cap, blue sweatshirt that says calypso. he's cute, give him a raise.
p.s i enjoy your carrot cakes.

Very nice place , parking can be the problem, however one hour parking right outside, the Servicies is great, love ā¤ļø the coffee and the girls are so lovely, choice of the menus are good variability, well presented , taste well .

Their menu was sorted into portion sizes, and looks like they change their menu every now and then. I badly wanted to order their famous potato hash, but they didn't have any other meat options to replace thick-cut bacon (such a disappointment). Ended up ordering cauli-town, which wasn't bad, but if you're not a fan of coriander/shallots, do not order this dish.

My friend tried their crab omelette, which was tasty. Omelette was well- cooked and serving size is commendable. Overall, decent place.

The location is very cool since it's in a heritage building. The coffee is šŸ‘Œ. Food is great but would recommend for brunch tipping more towards lunch as they don't have your normal am staples. Everything we are however was delicious and it's a bit out-of-box and unique which is part of its appeal. Will go back. Try the nitrogen infused cold brew! If not a whole cup ask for a taste. Very cool šŸ˜Ž. Keep it up Proud Mary team!

The staff here are awesome. Service is quick which is great for a work day lunch. I asked for the smashed avo without the vegetables and was given 2 pieces of sour dough with chopped up chunks of avocado on the side ($18). It was okay - nothing too exciting. I didn't bother taking a picture as it wasn't presented very well. I had one of their juices which was delicious.

.................Legit love it here. A brunch experience I have yet to forget n I still feel it inside of my belly šŸ’•

He's gonna get tha Mary šŸ’

Been Proud Mary for brunch, actually it was really nice, beautiful cafe, lovely service and nice food. Only downside will be the portions of their dishes were quite small. Two of us had to order 3 dishes and 2 smoothies to get us feel ok.. yeahhh just ok not full.

Typical of the excellent cafes in the inner city area. Great coffee, food. Service is switched on. I sat by the window with the sun streaming in which is not bad since PM is surrounded by tall buildings.

Very friendly staff and delicious food. I had the roasted cauliflower salad and it was absolutely yummy. Banana bread was great as well. Will come again!

Had breakfast here one time- we were in a rush and asked advice on what to get that wouldn't take too long. Staff were very helpful and prompt and the meal was excellent!
