Review Le Bon Ton - Collingwood

Onnida Thammapratheep
Brisket was good but food wasn't quite warm. It might have been a cold plate or the weather. Maybe warm.plate would help as our food got cold bepfre we finished the dish and we're quite a quick eater. I ordered lemon lime bitter for drink and it was a bit flat so I asked for another one. It came out a bit better but still not fizzy. I guess it's a lemonade from tab or bottle and not from can. Overall, it was good. I liked the charcoal burn around the edge of meat, would have been better if the corn got some too. Service was good šŸ‘

This place is a bit of fun. Very loud and a bit dark though. We opted for the equipment of the chefs menu I guess and it was fabulous. If you like meat, youā€™ll sure love it here because there is all types of meat cooked all types of ways :P Wear your loose jeans because youā€™ll come out very full.

Amazing food. Burnt ends and Mac and cheese are my favourites. We tried almost everything from their menu over time and we never left unsatisfied. Friendly staff and atmosphere.

We come to Le Bon Ton quite often because of their amazing food and relaxed vibe. We are obsessed with their brisket, but on our latest visit we decided to try their sandwiches. They were as amazing as their BBQ meats. Would highly recommend to try it. Thanks

Excellent service! Amazing food! The beef brisket is tender and juicy. The fries are crispy and delicious. And the summer grain salad is simply magical!

Been to a few American Style bbq places but this one takes the cake! Ordered the Platter, lamb ribs (to die for highly recommend) chips and potato salad was definitely enough for 2! Got 2 cheeky cocktails aswell Each dish was amazing, staff were friendly and service was quick. We did go for lunch at 2

IG: melbfoodie_mark šŸ“Le Bon Ton, Collingwood @lebontonmelb my first American-style BBQ in Melbourne! I am not too familiar with American BBQ but after reading all the reviews, I was excited to try this place out. Between the 4 of us, we ordered Beef Brisket, Crispy Lamb Ribs, Housemade Sausages, Chili Cheese Fries, Grilled Brussels Sprout. Overall, decent value for the quality of the meat. All the meat came out tender and juicy. But I gatta say, my personal favourite was Lamb Ribs - easily, the best one out of all in terms of portion size and quality. They were super juicy and tasty particularly with their wonderful crispy skin. Would 100% get multiple servings of those next time instead. - #melbfoodiemark #lebonton #brisket

3.5. Overall takeaway meal was ok, we ordered:<br/>- chicken tenders: a small quantity considering the price. Taste was fine, not as full of flavour as the herbs on the coating suggested. (My partner thought it bland without the mayo).<br/>- chilli fries: I really enjoyed the sweet and salty marinade on the fries, the minced beef and cheese were tasty. Our fav dish.<br/>- cheeseburger: not bad, wouldn't have minded a bit more sauce. (My partner thought flavours were bland).<br/>- brisket burger: brisket was very tasty and well marinaded, a really good burger. (My partner found it too salty).<br/>Didn't get to try the meats, so would be keen to return in person to try the rest of the menu!

5 stars for the lamb ribs! Everything else average
Gabriela
The food was overall ok, some of the dishes were average, some others a bit better. I was a little bit disappointed about the fact they say they are kid friendly and you are certainly welcome to bring your child, but they dont have high chairs and music could be a bit loud. They don't offer kids menu either.

What a feed! This is the ultimate bbq experience. Very Southern American vibe, even our waitress was American.<br/>Portions were huge, we got the mixed plate of meats which I highlely recommend. The mac and cheese is the best in Aus and the sweet potato corn break is to die for! <br/>Great atmosphere, worth going for a fun dinner out.

So sick of the food coming out luke warm / cold!! Food can be delicious but think Iā€™ve only ever had hot food once or twice here. <br/>Chicken is delicious but never hot. Same with the gravy. Always gluggy and almost cold. <br/>Mac and cheese the same! Always luke warm. <br/>Such a shame particularly because of the price you pay. <br/>Food always comes out so quickly so makes me think itā€™s all pre-made and ready to go. <br/>Better value places out there.
FoodieInMel
The place was quite lovely, like the design, however was quite noisy. We ordered the crispy lamb, cornbread, sandwich and cold slow, were quite tasty but the food were quite cold when it served, which was a bit disappointed.

Guess what, found the crispiest fried chicken tenders in a bbq smoked house of all places. Yes thats right! Perfectly crumbed chicken marinated in buttermilk then deep fried was anything but delicious! <br/><br/>As for the bbq meats, my mate and I had the chef selection which made up of chicken, beef brisket, pulled pork and sausages. Our favourite was the chicken and sausage. Brisket and pulled pork was a tad dry for our liking. Perhaps by the time we chow down the brisket and pork the meat might have got a little cold. In saying so, it was still enjoyable and definitely a plate that overfed us. <br/><br/>One more thing these guys serves some mean cocktails We had hurricane which was surprisingly went really well with the meat considering that we change it up a little bit from the usual ales or beers to wash the meal down. Definitely worth it.

Wasn't very impressed with le bon ton. I was expecting a lot but only got a little. Meat was cold, dry with minimal smoke flavor.<br/>Thanks for the free chili sauce, it was definitely the highlight of the night.<br/>

Best grill meat Iā€™ve had in Melbourne

Atmosphere was great and and staff were friendly however the food was average. We ordered buffalo wings, beef brisket and the beef ribs. It came out very quickly however was barely even warm and very bland tasting. Was very disappointed!

I absolutely loved lunch today! We celebrated a colleagues birthday and were quick to be stead in a dining room with lots of character! The salad I had was absolutely divine and was exactly as described as ā€œthe kitchen sinkā€! It was full of flavour and the chipotle dressing with the crunch of tortillas was just phenomenal<br/><br/>The dish was the Kitchen Sink Salad with Blackened Market Fish (mixed leaves and iceberg lettuce, red capsicum, cucumber, cherry tomato, cheddar, white onion, toasted pepitas, crispy corn tortilla chips & chipotle ranch)

I visited Le Bon Ton with friends who raved about their fried chicken, amongst other items... well, they were right to!Ā Ā <br/><br/>The chicken, brisket and just about everything else we tried were fantastic.Ā  Left both full and happy.

Nice southern American style chicken - mouthwatering flavours. Love the pub feel to it too. Good service. Nice place for a casual weekend dinner with friends.

Very disappointed with this place. I have been to my fair share of bbq places, particularly in the US and Melbourne. <br/><br/>Ordered the half lb brisket ($24), iceberg salad ($10) and fish tacos (21). <br/><br/>The first thing that struck me was how unappetizing the dishes read on the menu. All generic things with no creativity or style. For instance Mac and cheese with 3 cheeses. No truffle, no special sauce. Just generic. Took me ages just to find 3 dishes that were appetizing.<br/><br/>The brisket was quite good, as was the sauce. <br/><br/>However the salad was far too sour, the huge chunks of apple did not blend well with the sour dressing.<br/><br/>The real disgrace was the fish tacos. Cold, supermarket tortillas with a tiny piece of fish inside. The taco was about a third full. Absolute rip off and no care taken in preparation. <br/><br/>The price points certainly didnā€™t match the quality. <br/><br/>

Good American style BBQ food. Fun for a night out with a group of friends. Reasonable prices. I The two hour sitting limit is fine but felt rushed.
Alan Tse
Having just come back from America, Le Bon Tom has plenty to live up to. They only do a 2 hour sitting but on Friday it was busy without being overly so. <br/><br/>First impressions was the beer list; they had two rotating taps one is supposed to be Stone and the other another American beer. On this occasion both were from Stone; having just been to the brewery I was not complaining. They had the Tropic of Thunder Lager and Tangerine Express IPA; had them both over there, had them both here!<br/> <br/><br/>The food was nice; I really enjoyed the quesadillas and the lamb ribs is an absolute signature item. Their servings are quite big so it would have been good to have enough appetite to eat more! The mac and cheese was good without being spectacular; it was a little dry rather than super creamy.Ā <br/><br/>We are lucky to have some really good American BBQ restaurants close together; and the prices are comparable to the US (after tax and tip over there) Compared with the Gem, Le Bon Ton has American craft beer which really completes the experience. This is definitely on the come back again list (although not too frequently - don't want to turn into a fat American).

Loved the atmosphere, very busy on a Saturday night! We needed to book a table and couldnā€™t get one until after 8pm. <br/>Staff were attentive and super polite.<br/>Meals came out quickly. <br/>We ordered the loaded fries, sweet potato corn bread, pork belly and brisket sandwich. Everything was delicious and has a little kick to it! Loved the sweet potato corn bread that was complimented well with the honey butter šŸ¤¤ I wouldnā€™t get the brisket sandwich again but it was still delicious and the loaded fries perfect. <br/>For dessert I had the peanut butter pie with vanilla ice cream and it was phenomenal! <br/>Will definitely be going back again šŸ™‚

Food is very average for the price, not terrible. Service my friends I received today was appalling, asked for a table for 3 and was rejected being told there was no space available with only 3 other tables being occupied and basically an empty establishment. Female waitressā€™ attitude was also extremely condescending for no reason other than asking for a table to fit the food we ordered. Would not recommend due to poor service.
YummyMummy
Donā€™t be fooled by the name sounding French - this place is an amazing Deep South slow cooked bbq meat venue! <br/>We considered the set menu but luckily the waitress warned us weā€™d have to be REALLY hungry! Instead, we didnā€™t quite get through a meat platter (The smokers lot) and two sides. The meat was divine, the beetroot salad is a must and the chips- well, it wouldnā€™t have been complete without some!<br/>Great surrounds, great food, great service... a treat to be enjoyed on a special occasion... overall we spent just over $100 for dinner and three drinks... so not bad value either!
Tania
Nice ambience and service. Great place for grabbing a few mates, some nice cocktails and drinks and chilling with some food. Probably would not get the smokers lot and try a main instead. Crispy lamb ribs were delicious!
Cristhian Lugo
Nice food, small portions and a bit pricey. Good vibes, tried the blonde and pale ale beers both good. Finally location is really good easy place to reach.

Le Bon Ton is close to my work and my colleagues and I often end up here for lunch on Fridays. <br/><br/>What we liked and didnā€™t like so much. <br/><br/>šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘<br/>ā€¢ Burgers and chicken salad, yes pls! Hard to try anything else on the menu when the chicken salad is this delicious. <br/><br/><br/>šŸ‘ŽšŸ‘ŽšŸ‘Ž<br/>ā€¢ Is the chicken salad getting smaller? My level of my happiness on Friday has a direct correlation with the amount of southern fried chicken I get and recently itā€™s been falling. <br/><br/>Would we come again? <br/><br/>We have and will. Itā€™s hard to stand out in Collingwood but we think Le Bon Ton is doing a fine job, keep up the great work. <br/><br/>

Very disappointing. Came here for dinner and ordered the beef short rib, sausage and coleslaw. When I cut into the rib it was 90% fat. I raised this with my waitress who spoke to the kitchen and the response was ā€œitā€™s a fatty cutā€. Iā€™ve eaten plenty of beef ribs before so this was a laughable response. To their credit it was swapped for brisket however this was dry, flavourless and unimpressive. The sausage and slaw were passable. Not the meal I was looking forward to!

**3.5 stars** If youā€™re a big eater and you love meat, this place is the place for you. My friends like to go to this restaurant/ bar often and are big fans of the smoked ā€˜Brisketā€™ ($24). I personally thought that it was just okay because the flavour wasnā€™t anything special. The ā€˜Sausageā€™ ($10) was again, average, whilst the ā€˜Mac & 3 Cheeseā€™ ($9.5) was lukewarm and pretty plain. For me, I thought the stand-out dish was the ā€˜Southern Fried Chickenā€™ ($22.5) as it was value for money. The salad tasted fresh and the fried chicken was delicious. We also ordered a ā€˜Banana Cream Pieā€™ ($14) for dessert which was sweet in flavour and both crunchy and smooth in texture. The ambience was warm and the service was good.
Linda
If youā€™re looking for small portions, this is the place for you! Highly disappointed as I was looking forward to eating beautiful hearty meats and sides especially with the reviews and prices. The ambience and service was good although they did forget to bring out the potato salad which we ended up cancelling. Would not come back.

For the price you pay, I thought the food was nothing to write home about. I had the vegetarian tacos - perhaps the vibe is better if you are keen on meat. It tasted like something I could easily cook myself, and the beans were quite hard/not well stewed. The cocktail I had was quite nice, however.

Came here to try the burgers... after a few beers we end up with a table full of American bbq !! A Smokey assortment of brisket and pork belly. Complemented with chips, sausage and pull pork. Could not pick a favourite! leaving with a full stomach we already have plans to come back and next time actually try the burgers.
Chloe Cakes
This is probably my favourite restaurant in Melbourne. The food is reasonably priced and beyond delicious. Always order the fried chicken tenders, fries and mozzarella sticks. Itā€™s like a party in your mouth and you never have to wait long for the food to arrive. Will return again and again for the best fried chicken ever
Lilia Reis
They make the best burritos, when Iā€™m hungover and donā€™t want crappy food fir breakfast this is my go to and itā€™s always amazing! Breakfast burritos delivered through Uber eats at 8am ā¤ļø they are filling and have quality ingredients

Staff are very friendly and polite. Good variety of foods to choose from. Food came out pretty quick, no issues. Great portion size. Very nice ambience. My go to place for a late night. Canā€™t fault

Le Bon Ton had been recommended to me by so many people that I just had to go... and it did not disappoint. We went on Saturday night with another couple for dinner, and it was amazing. We ordered so much food - Mac and Cheese, Potato Salad, Brisket, Fried Chicken... and lots more. Each dish was amazing. I also had a Southern Belle cocktail and it was probably the best cocktail I've ever had.Ā <br/><br/>The atmosphere is awesome - super relaxed and cosy. The venue is very cool and spacious, and the customer service was kind and attentive (without overdoing it).<br/><br/>Can't recommend this place enough for a delicious feed in a gorgeous, relaxed environment (and very well-priced too)!

Restaurant review. <br/><br/>Le Bon Ton! The institution of Old South cuisine and absinthe in Collingwood! <br/><br/>To start with, the atmosphere is really cool. If you, like me, donā€™t really like noisy crowds of Brunswick st on weekends and are looking for great food at the place where you can actually talk to each other, not yell over the loud music and crowd noise, AND place with heaps of free parking around - this is a hidden gem! Set in the old Glasshouse Pub, you walk into French inspired, old, yet sophisticated saloon with few separate dining areas which gives you small and intimate feel of the venue, when it actually is quite big. Some might not rate it, but metal enamel coated plates just add to the authentic atmosphere and I loved it! <br/><br/>Add to this open fireplace, AWESOME traditional absinthe glassware cabinet (which I was told you are allowed to have your absinthe in, if you order it!!), tables made out of old champagne barrels and finally the FOOD!!!!<br/><br/>If you love your meat, this is the place for you!!! Range of Texas style Smoked Brisket, Louisiana Ribs, Spiced chicken, Pork Belly, Southern Fried Chicken..... add to it calamari, loaded chilli fries, Mac and cheese.. mmmmmm....You can also have ā€œFeed meā€ menu for $69 p/p or the chefs meat selection for $57. <br/><br/>We had the brisket, fried chicken, calamari, loaded chilli fried and amazing baked beetroot and goats cheese salad. It fed 3 of us quite nicely and each dish was spectacular! My husband still talks about the brisket, it was clearly his favourite! šŸ˜‚ <br/><br/>Service by the way was also great and very quick.<br/>We will definitely be back as I want to get through the whole menu and maybe even be brave enough to try the absinthe! šŸ¤šŸ˜‚<br/><br/>5 stars from me! Absolutely loved it!! šŸ˜šŸ˜

Came on a Saturday for dinner with a small group. We shared a heap of meats, starters and sides. Meals came out pretty quickly but portion sizes for the bbq meat and sides are pretty small, especially for the price. But the food is really tasty and the atmosphere is really laid back.
Me
Havenā€™t been to Le Bon Ton in a while and really enjoyed coming back. Love the lighting and vibe inside. The night I came, apparently it was the coldest night in Melbourne since 1957, but it was so cosy inside I really didnā€™t notice.<br/><br/>Last time I came I got the pit smoked meats and southern fried chicken and they were amazing.<br/><br/>This time I started with the jalapeƱo & cheddar cornbread muffins which were so bloody tasty! Iā€™d definitely come back for them. Also got the fries which were on point too.<br/><br/>I decided to try the Le Bon Ton Cheeseburger which was really tasty too, although I think a little dry.<br/><br/>Iā€™ll definitely be back to get amongst the pit smoked meats again.
SK
Everything is delicious, but my favourite is the fried buttermilk chicken, the pulled pork, the mac and cheese, and potato salad. JalapeƱo sausage is good too. Oh and the apple BBQ chicken. The meat platter is probably the best thing to get if it's your first time. Only annoying thing is that there's dimmed lighting. But that's just me as I love to see my fooood!
Faisal
Great food and service. Prices are reasonable too with generous portion sizes. Easy to book and the staff were helpful. Will definitely go back soon.

Tucked away in a serene area - Collingwood, Le Bon Ton definitely has an outstanding ambience to offer to its patron with the dim lights, candles and chic interior deco. It is no doubt a good place to hang and have a drink after work or during weekends.<br/><br/>Food-wise, their fried chicken and smoked meats were well cooked, as this dining place has claimed to have one of the best smoked meats. Nonetheless, their burger was a tad disappointing as the patty tasted dry and bland. It was not worth it with the price that was paid for the burger..<br/><br/>However, I would love to visit this dining place again for other food and also their famous smoked meats. And yes, for the ambience as well!
Kevin Rolimpandoei
I absolutely love american bbq, and Le Bon Ton had the potential to be amazing. The flavours of everything ordered were spot on. Brisket, crispy chicken tenders, and burgers all had the potential to be a good dinner. However all the food arrived cold and dry, burger patty was overcooked, and plenty of food just left on the pass without any servers attending to it.<br/><br/>Iā€™ve always been excited about american smokehouse foods, but nothing is enjoyable when they are cold and dry.
Alice In Wonderland X Icebear
VEGO MUST TRY: the fried green tomato sandwich! The smoked mushroom is what dreams are made of for vegetarians that want to try something that resembles a meaty item off an American smoke joint! It is a perfectly balanced work of art which juicy, smoky tender mushrooms and fried anything or in this case tomatoes add a lovely fatty crispy layer to the sandwich. <br/><br/>Meat-aterians, everything meaty here is good! Try it all! <br/><br/>SKIP: the desserts unless you like your desserts super sweet! They look amazing but if you have to, share a pie. They may appear small but pack a sugar punch that will leave you jittery for a few hours yet šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜<br/><br/>
AlwaysHungry
Loved it!! From the service and the food and the atmosphere in there, all amazing!<br/>The meat was probably the best meat weā€™ve had cooked in that way since we were in the USA many years ago. <br/>Wish there was a bit more variety dessert wise for people with allergies/intolerances (dairy free and gluten free) but otherwise this place is perfection!!<br/>Canā€™t wait to go back.
Linna T
Texas caviar was very yummy! Would love to have it again! We had the southern pride which included the smokers lot which was also good and very filling. Staff were also very friendly and had good service.
BurgerHunterMan
Its all about the cheeseburger, trust us it is a winner! If there are a couple of you also get the chilli cheese fries, best partnered with a coors!
Tara
This place has a lovely warmth to it, from the impeccable service to the raw fit out and most delicious comfort food north of the Yarra. Thank you for a wonderful Motherā€™s Day lunch!
Sarah Anne
Was so looking forward to this booking, made for partners birthday.<br/>We ordered the Smokers Lot, the Mac n Cheese and the chips. Within minutes the order was at the table but nothing but the chips was hot! The meat was pretty dry and not as smokey as expected given itā€™s advertised as the smokers lot. The Mac and Cheese was yummo but I can just imagine how good it would have been if it was actually hot! Whatever seasoning was on the fries was also delicious! Not enough sauce on anything but thatā€™s just my preference, I like sauce! We were in and out within an hour, bit of a disappointing experience.<br/>I would come back and give it another shot though, maybe we just got an unlucky night.
Danny
Food was absolutely sensational! Highly recommend getting the smokers lot with a bunch of sides, onion rings, potatoes salad, fires and mac and cheese. You really cant go wrong, its a must visit.
Man Needs Burger
Southern goodness all round at Le Bon Ton, if you love American BBQ you can't go past! Now the brisket sandwich is good but the Cheeseburger is one of the best I have tasted in Melbourne, just simply delicious. Great for a night out with friends, sharing is the key here so you get a sampling of it all!
Lynda Tieu
Great place for lunch/dinner. Always busy on the weekends but love that it's open late! The Mac and Cheese is a must, and I love the potato salad too. My partner loves the buttermilk fried chicken and the brisket. A couple of vegetarian mains are always on the menu which is great for me, but definitely make sure you leave room for dessert!!
Julycheee
Menu looked amazing and we were exciting to get into the pit-smoked meats. We loved the crumbed and fried mozerella sticks. The smoker's lot was a a let down, for a restaurant which promoted themselves as experts in smoked meats. We found the cuts of meat dry and some a little tough (the beef brisket was a bit inconsistent). The sausages were also too "loose" and didn't have a nice chew. We also hoped for a strong smokey flavour.
Cheese Fiend
Short poem written about the mac n cheese (aka crack n cheese) at Le Bon Ton: a spot of mac... a pinch of crack...Ā a splash of cheese.... consumed with ease
Seth Kannof
We were overwhelemed by how many good choices there seemed on the menu - we settled on sharing the brisket, mac and cheese, mozz sticks, chicken wings, and the chilli cheese fries. Everything was really delicious particularly the mac and cheese and the homemade BBQ sauce and hot sauce that comes on every table. Will surely return to try other things on the menu.
.itadakimasu~
Had the ā€œfried chickenā€ from the menu which consisted of four strips of southern style buttermilk soaked tenders, a side of cracked pepper white gravy and a few sliced pieces of jalapenos.<br/><br/>The boneless chicken strips were tender and moist and the thin outer coating gave it a light crisp to the bite. The coating was well seasoned with a mild savouriness to it; it wasnā€™t overly salted. The white gravy was also savoury with a hint of peppery spice; slightly thickened and smooth. Finally the jalapenos had some heat to them; definitely makes a difference if you enjoy your chicken hot and spicy.Ā <br/><br/>Overall it was a tasty meal; each tender varied in size but altogether you get a decent amount of chicken. The chicken retained much of its moisture even after being fried, and the flavour was satisfying whether you eat them on its own or with the gravy and jalapenos.
Tony
great atmosphere and service. Had lamb ribs with side of coleslaw. Meat was a little too fatty and chewy but overall flavours OK. Wife had brisket which was very dry but once again flavours OK.
TweeVy Ngo
Great place to dine and chill through late nights. Love their variation of cocktails and the ambience of the venue was lovely. Their chilli cheese fries were generous with the blu cheese sauce
Amy Davis
We came here for Valentines day, maybe not your typical choice but it was a great one. We were seated upstairs and the room, music everything just perfectly embodied Southern USA. Started with the Derby Day and Baton Rouge cocktails, both superb and very alcoholic and the chicken wings were the perfect blend of not too spicy and sweet.Ā <br/>We definitely over ordered in the food department but I would not have changed anything. We had the ribs, brisket, potato salad and fries.Ā <br/>Hands down best brisket I have had! So perfectly cooked and juicy but charred on the outside and great seasoning. Same goes for the ribs actually.Ā <br/>The Dill potato salad was a standout and I would probably come back for that alone, it was phenomenal.
Filet De Boeuf
Great American BBQ tucked away in a quiet Collingwood Street. Doesn't look like a whole lot from the outside but inside you'll find a variety of fantastic smoked, grilled and fried meats good enough to satisfy any meat lover.
Got_2_lunch
Arrived at 7pm on a Saturday with no booking and was seated within 10 mins (although it was only the 2 of us). Started with a 'Southern Belle' cocktail which was bright and refreshing.Ā <br/><br/>We were advised that the Shared meat platter + a few sides/starters would be perfect for 2, but I honestly think it might be better for 3- 4 people as you don't want to skip on the sides! I literally rolled out in a meat coma and didn't feel like eating anything else for almost 24 hours!Ā <br/><br/>Corn bread muffins were THE BEST I've ever had. I had no idea cornbread could be so fluffy and buttery on the inside with a crunch to the outer shell. Didn't get much kick from the jalapeƱos but they were so good we almost got another pair to go. Beetroot and goats cheese salad was a fresh and gave some relief to all the heavy meats. Chips and mac and cheese looks good for our next visit.<br/><br/>Now the meat platter! Very generous serves, everything was kissed with smoke and very moreish. Brisket was a tad dry although tender, and had great bark and smoke ring. 3 large slices was much more then other brisket serves I've had so was happy with that. Pulled pork was pretty standard, the spicy BBQ on the table went really well with this. Sausage was super smokey and more of a chunky grind. Not the biggest sausage fan myself but certainly tasty.<br/><br/>Honestly I think the chicken breast was my favourite. Still moist but with more smoke then anything else on the board. It was really amazing.Ā <br/><br/>Venue seems busy and kinda packed in but i'm eager to explore the courtyard and lamb ribs on my next visit. Host was friendly and waiter was attentive without being too bearing. Less 0.5 because the experience was all to fast! Food was ready so fast that we were in and out of there within a hour. Would have been great to hang around a bit longer and enjoy the atmosphere

Went to lunch with friends and were after a healthy lunch. Ended up here, too tempted by the meats! Had a huge burger, or sandwich, as they call them here, with pickles on the side. It was the most indulgent and delicious southern food and most definitely not the healthy meal I was after. Oh well! Would eat here again in a flash.
Aks
Looking at the great reviews, we got a little carried away and ordered a lot of food... but the food experience was underwhelming... though the food wasnā€™t bad and the service was also good, itā€™s just that we had high expectations... my friends and I did like the sausages and onion rings but other than that nothing that would make me go back...
Teeny Reeny
I had the world's saddest sandwich here....described as a deep fried tomato sandwich, I received a burger, with one thin slice of tomato and one mushroom, that's it. I know their specialty is meat, but still... the potato salad was nice, the onion rings lacked salt. I had a great cocktail, beautifully presented. The service was lovely and the venue is cosy and ambient. There was a male staff member (perhaps the manager?) who was extremely rude and abrupt to our waitress who was lovely and accommodating. We felt incredibly uncomfortable for her and asked if she was ok. Treating staff like that in front of customers, or ever, is just not ok.

Love love love this place. There's very little that I can fault here. We ordered the fried chicken and seasoned fries, which came out quickly, and were steaming hot. The chicken was super juicy, and the fries were perfect as well. The place gives a real American pub vibe, and has good service with attentive staff. If anything, the late night menu is slightly limited, but honestly, the fried chicken here is really all you need at 1am :)
Melbourne Epicure
I love this place. Their pulled pork is great and so is their brisket. Got to love a place with a good, juicy brisket. Sides are good also. Good beer on offer. Their fried chicken is supper juicy and tender. I know, who the hell goes to an american style smoke BBQ joint to order chicken, right? Well, you should include it alongside your other stuff in your order.<br/> Oh and it opens late on the weekends!
Saladzzz
This place is awesome! We had a great lunch here with good food and music. All the food we ordered (fried chicken, pork belly, brisket and coleslaw) were very delicious. Waitresses were very friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back again =).
Simon Hansen
very poor service. had a booking for 15 people. we sat down 20 minutes late and they split the group into 2. When the obvious question was asked I was told " If I don't like it leave" They had enough business. Our group meant nothing. Yes I did leave and I will never go back.

The outside looks like an ordinary pub, but inside awaits a palette experience of America's South. With a range of meats smoked over iron bark and fruit woods for up to 12 hours, this Carnivores' Delight actually caters well for vegetarians too.<br/><br/>The food came impossibly fast, with all dishes brought out together. The Baja Fish tacos were so good, with many different flavours blending to create a tasty result. The crispy Smoked Lamb Ribs had spicy coffee rub with sweet and sour BBQ sauce. It was worth the visit just to try this. We ordered the salad to balance out the meal and it was a generous size, dressed with flavoursome Chipotle ranch.<br/><br/>The main dining area was comfortably set out and there was plenty of atmosphere despite not being loud. Efficient and friendly service staff combined with great food, it's easy to see why so many recommend this place.
Andrea
We came here for the meat platter and it was delicious! It was a bit on the pricer end for us, but we decided to try out this joint as we had heard hype around it. <br/><br/>We ordered the Smokers Lot as well an an entree of mac and cheese. Firstly, the mac and cheese was good but the portion was tiny and it isnt worth the price.<br/><br/>I recommend ordering a side or two if your sharing between 2-3 people depending on your appetite.<br/><br/>The smokers lot was great, the brisket wasnt as 'full apart in your mouth' as i expected. But the star was the sausage and pulled pork. Overall, a great meal- really meaty and filling! <br/><br/>Ambience/ Service: The restaurant is an amazing place to hold a big event and service is great! I love the rustic feel of the pub and the decor as well.

My favourite type of food is American BBQ. I cook it myself, but I always love it when a joint comes around who can make it well and get me excited about BBQ again. We got the share platter, and a side of lamb ribs, as well as an assortment of sides. The chicken stood out, which is not normally my go to when it comes to BBQ. All your staples were done well, the pulled pork, brisket, sausage links. I was very impressed, but one thing that stood out were the sides. The jalepeno and cheddar corn bread was incredible and they also did a big corn chip salad which I would have gladly eaten on it own as a main. Overall we all had a really great meal and I will definitely return again when I get the chance.

Quality of food has really gone down in the 12 months since I was last here. I came with my husband and we ordered 2 starters, 2 meats and 1 side to share. The southern fried chicken was good as was the fried mozzarella. The Mac n cheese was lukewarm but still tasty. The Pork belly was nice but you only got 5 thin slices which is extremely stingy. The real disappointment was the lamb ribs which where between lukewarm and cold and about 80 % fat. To bite into a rib and get a mouthful of cold fat is not pleasant and made me feel sick. The fact that it was nearly impossible to seperate the ribs was a giveaway.<br/>Go elsewhere. much better BBQ places around

We went here for Christmas lunch today for $100 a person.Ā  A glass of champagne, 1 oyster a few beans, turkey and ham slices, mac and cheese and pumpkin tart. Although the food was tasty, at $100 a person, this was extremely overpriced.Ā  The waitress also did not seem she wanted to be there. Importantly, we also said we were allergic to nuts a few times - although they remembered to not give us the almond stuffing, the pumpkin tart clearly had nuts on it. After calling over the waitress, they said they could replace it with sorbet? Sorbet?! We informed the waitress that the original waitress who took our order said they would serve us tarts without the nuts.Ā  So they took the tarts back to the kitchen and obviously just tipped the tarts over and returned them to us apparently without the nuts (I recognised my tart as there was a burnt bit sticking out).Ā  There was no apology whatsover.Ā  If we had taken a bit of the pumpkin tarts without enquiring there would have been an emergency on hand.Ā  This is totally unacceptable service.Ā  We have been to restaurants where this has happened, however, they would bake us a fresh desert (without the nuts) and not charge us for it. Don't ever come here if you are allergic or for an overpriced Christmas lunch.

im not sure if we got a bad day but i was extremely dissapointed by the food and service of le bon ton. The atmosphere was beautiful but was all down hill from there. the waiter who took the order was fine but the waitress who brought the food out just dumped it all on the table without a word and not asking who's was what. the guys who ordered the burgers were happy but i got the brisket which was plain and dry. <br/>

Great food and great ambience! Its a place to be on a Friday night with a bunch of friends drinking beer and having some laughs! Food in pics are nothing but delicious platters of meat!

We dined here last night, the interior is beautiful and service is great. The food was a huge disappointment, the best way we were able to describe the food here... Absolutely no love.<br/>- Berkshire Pork Belly Ā $18: Dry, flavourless, tasteless it was so difficult to cut with the knife or even tear up with my fingers. Was this really cooked for 12 hours???- Fried "Buffalo" Chicken Sandwich $18: Chicken overcooked, used the cheapest bun they could find, not spicy. Just so average.- Mac & 3 Cheese $9.5: Super dry. Where was the cheese? No stringy-ness whatsoever, make sure you eat it as soon as it hits the table because if you leave it any longer then expect just clumpy powdery pasta.<br/>- Jalapeno & Cheddar Cornbread Muffins $7: DRY! I've over used the word 'dry' but there's no other way I can explain the food we were served. Also, we were given butter. The description said 'whipped' so one would think it would be easy to spread. No, it was just your usual cube of unspreadable butter.<br/><br/>Overall, there was just no flavour added to these overpriced dishes. We've been to so many other 'American BBQ' establishments around Melbourne.Ā <br/><br/>The building and interior is beautiful, this seems like a good place to have a drink but I definitely will not dine here.

Came the second time for of of my mate's bday. The first time we came around we didn't feel it was as good as what people said. This time around we are thoroughly impressed by the food. Meats are succulent and tasted so good especially the pork belly. It was juicy and melts in your mouth, combined with the honey mustard sauce omgggg.

Booked a table for 8.15 and didnt get served till roughly 8.30. To make matters worse the whole experience was a debacle as we recieved our mains at 10pm. Oysters were terrible and there was just too much time waiting at an empty plate. It was saturday in december but surely that is no excuse. I sent over an email before posting this but as yet havent recieved a reply. The manager came out at 10pm apologising and offering more meat which was a positive. Very dissapointed.

Love love love this place. One of the best burgers I've ever had, the texture is so tender and soft, almost like ice cream. Weird description I know, but it's just the perfect burger. Fries were perfectly crispy, I perhaps even prefer them to the chilli cheese fries. My partner loved the chicken ribs, in fact he was so greedy that he ordered a second round after our burgers. One of them best things about this place, unlike other high end restaurants is that they allow takeaway! So when we suspected he couldn't finish the ribs we were able to save them for later. No matter how full we are we can't say no to the pecan pie, super indulgent but well worth it. Le Bon Ton is on the pricier side but I find it lives up to the price tag.

I seriously did not expect an American-style bar based on the store name :D<br/><br/>The meats are slightly more expensive compared to my regular joints at the moment which was a negative for me. Flavour nonetheless was good.<br/>The jalapeno and cheddar muffins was my attempt at being adventurous but it was quite bland I thought. Had the kitchen sink salad to keep it light.Ā <br/><br/>Flavour were good, portions were appropriate. Large seating area.

Great service. Meat platter was okay, all a bit spicey for my liking. Delicious salads - specifically love the potato salad and the beetroot. Very fresh and delicious! <br/>Be prepared to spend $$ as the meats are quite expensive.
Hello. Imnikki
It has been quite some time since my last visit and nothing much has changed, and I mean that in a good way. The service is still charming and down-to-earth, the food comes out super quick and in very generous portion sizes, and the smoked meats are undoubtedly the star of the show. The sides are tasty, but nothing out of the ordinary. The smoked meats, however, are bursting with flavours and juices. Save and except for the beef brisket that is on the dry side, everything else from the Smokerā€™s Lot was remarkable. I have always been eyeing the burgers but have yet to try them, so that means another visit is very likely.

After hearing good reviews, a group of 8 of us decided to head in to enjoy a nice meal together. Upon arrival, the staff were very good and asked if weā€™d like to order drinks and did everything youā€™d expect a standard food outlet/ restaurant to do. That service unfortunately ended there, though. <br/>Within 20 minutes we began to be asked if weā€™d like to order multiple times even though we politely replied several times that we were still waiting on people and we were fine for the moment. <br/>I might add that we had the booking for 2 hours, so there was no need to rush. <br/>ā€œOkay what do you wantā€ was the firm response given when we finally did decide it was time to order. Very unappealing.<br/>I peered to the window where they make desserts and was absolutely disgusted to see the ā€œchefā€ undo her hair and tie it up WHILST STILL WEARING HER GLOVE! I just froze and waitied for her to maybe change it but no, she kept handling the dessert with those same gloves that could now be laced with dandruff and god knows what. <br/>When the food did arrive, it came in dribs and drabs, but my order was missing. We waited for about 10 minutes before asking if there was something wrong and the waiter said sheā€™d check but never got back to us. <br/>A friend asked her again a little while later and she abruptly replied ā€œitā€™s coming soon!ā€ <br/>The food finally arrived and although it was late, I enjoyed my burger. But the ambiance and staff mannerism was less than mediocre. Iā€™d probably only recommend this place to friends if they purchased online and got their food takeaway since they wouldnā€™t have to deal with the nasty staff and setting we were placed in.

Had a quality Sunday sesh here!<br/>The service was great, such a good vibe to the place.<br/><br/>Food matched the vibes - the chicken ribs were phenomenal. The best most succulent chicken o have had in a long time.<br/><br/>Beef brisket a little on the dry side would be the only note of improvement.<br/><br/>Make sure you try the absinthe šŸ˜‚

Great venue. We sat outside in a very sunny day so it really was a great setting.<br/><br/>We ordered the onion rings, mac n cheese, chilli cheese fries to share and I got the beef brisket burger.<br/>Onion rings were great. Huge portion and the seasoning was nice.. I've had better from Bettys where they do a great beer batter but these were good too. Mac and cheese was nice but needed a bit more seasoning and cheese flavour. Chilli fries were the best I've ever Had! Generous chilli portion though I don't remember any cheese on them.<br/>Brisket was ok.. I found it a bit bland if I'm honest. Nothing special, just nice.<br/><br/>Service in the place was great. Our waitress (A lovely blonde girl) was super friendly and made us feel very welcome. <br/><br/>Overall an ok experience but probably would just go back for drinks and for the venue

A beautiful renovation of the old landmark Glasshouse Hotel in Collingwood, Le Bon Ton is rustic chic without being spruced up to within an inch of a characterless dining. Lots of atmosphere, big groups (families as well as mates/office groups), friendly and helpful staff, courtyard out the back.Ā <br/><br/>The only disappointment is the food! It's not that its bad - but BBQ meats are limited and personally I have never been a great fan of burnt BBQ (lamb ribs) or fairly tasteless beef brisket. Chicken was pleasant but ironically the best part of the meal was the Kitchen Sink Salad.<br/><br/> May 2018 Feel bad that earlier review was negative as there's considerable improvement in the food - southern fried chicken with the kitchen sink salad excellent - and mammoth! Pulled pork good as well as the brisket.<br/>Continue to return - and the $19 steak night (Wed) is excellent value.

Booked a table of 6 for my boyfriend's birthday dinner. They had set times you could book, which seemed a bit odd since they weren't fully booked when we got there. But I suppose it works for them at their busier times.<br/>Food was absolutely delicious, meats cooked to perfection, mac and cheese was moreish and we didn't wait too long for the food either. Would definitely return

Wowzers! Being from the states absolutely love everything about this place! Their jalapeƱo biscuits and MAC and cheese are crazy delicious. This is one of the best BBQ joints in melbs...if not the best! Great spot for customers and date night

Headed to this fine establishment for a work do. Ordered "The Lot". The food was really good, lots of meat and a great way to bond from work. Good food, great cocktails and staff handled our requests with a smile. A little pricey.

Pork and black pepper sausage was the best...!!! Mac & 3 cheeses was delicious and very cheesy.. definitely will go back to try other menu..

Would not recommend coming on a Friday-Saturday night. Service is rushed and sloppy on these nights. It is difficult to get staff attention on these nights. They accidentally dropped my food before it came to the table and instead of replacing all the dishes, they placed the only non damaged plate down on the table. Which had gotten cold by the time the other dishes arrived. The food is delicious however, so you can't fault that. Better to head here on a Monday evening. Try requesting for a table further away from the larger function tables.

Reviewing soon after my dinner at Le Bon Ton.. Have visited this place several times in the past few months but I'm afraid tonight's meal was quite terrible. The brisket & pork belly was dry,<br/>the lamb ribs lacked seasoning and taste..Overall<br/>dissatisfied for quite an expensive dinner. May be friday night is not a good time to go here.. :( Did not send the food back cos we were starving.. <br/>P.s mac and cheese, cheese burger were good

Dangerously good. One of my favourite places in Melbourne, service is always amazing, love the ambience, food is delicious... we always order the salad with the southern fried chicken - not healthy in the slightest but cheat meal worthy. Oh and that peanut butter and chocolate mousse pie... I never order dessert, but I'm so glad I did thar night. I shared it with my partner and we couldn't finish it, but it was good!!
Vege Eats
Vegetarian quesadilla was really tasty! We had to sit outside because the wait for a table was a while so it was pretty cold, but staff were really lovely.

Had dinner there the other night I had a ball couldn't say a bad word, being in the hospitality industry myself it was great to get out and experience fellow foodies in there neutral environment
The Dear Luncher
Heavy Dear Luncher & The Boyz arranged a rather large lunch gathering recently and the venue chosen was Le Bon Ton. Thereā€™s such a grand appeal to all these pubs that have been transformed into restaurants and/or gastro pubs, they offer up so much charm. Internally, Le Bon Ton is perhaps only rivalled by Bluebonnet Barbecue in North Fitzroy, when it comes to setups of this kind. Rustic, warm and enticing.

Such a great vibe at this place. Lively, always full of people and really cool fit out, like a southern saloon. The food is all things American with slow cooked meat, ribs, roast chicken, sausage, Mac & cheese, onion rings, potato salad, pickles and pies for dessert. The cocktails are also amazing. If you haven't been, definitely check it out, I recommend it!

The place looks like a pub from the outside but inside it is nice and cozy. The Meats and sides in this BBQ place are just so delicious. The burgers however were quite disappointing. If you are a BBQ meat fan, this is a must. Especially the brisket was extremely tasty!

I have never left Le Bon Ton disappointed. In fact, it's the one restaurant in Melbourne I've frequented the most! I never stray from my order of Kitchen Sink Salad with Southern Fried Chicken. It is without a doubt one of my favourite dishes ever! Often hubby and I will pop past on the way home and share the one salad as the serving is HUGE! The tortilla chips, the pepitas, the dressing, the cheese. I am salivating just thinking about it! However, everything else we've had on the menu is also delish. The brisket, the burgers, the salads, alllllll YUM!!
KLLYXNG
Really loved the vibe here at this place, it was not crazy busy for 8pm but there was definitely a loud and happening ambience going around in this pub/restaurant.Ā <br/>Ordered a round of dishes -<br/>- Mozzarella Sticks<br/>- Chilli Cheese Fries<br/>- Smokers Lot<br/>- Mac and three cheese<br/>- Tangy Coleslaw<br/>- Onion Rings<br/>- Le Bon Ton Cheeseburger<br/><br/>Didn't over order by the way, for four people. Highly recommend the mozzarella sticks, mac and cheese and onion rings!! Those were absolutely top notch and I couldn't get enough of it. Cheeseburger was juicy and had abundance of flavour and was not leaking everywhere like some of the burger places I have been to. Coleslaw and cheese fries were pretty good as well but nothing super super amazing as the ones mentioned above. Smokers Lot was slightly disappointing; in particular the sausage? It was fairly dry and I'm not sure what kind of blend the chef used but it wasn't like your typical butcher made sausage or gourmet sausage at all. Brisket was delicious and I'd probably just order that on its own. Pulled pork was nothing special, a little lacking in flavour and it showed because that's all we left on our plate, and the chicken had a decent sauce but the cut was a bit funny (a drumstick and then one large piece of bone and meat so it was awkward to share between four people)<br/>Disappointed that they didn't have any desserts to offer for dinner!
