Visited during their Woman in Coffee Showcase. Hands down best cold drip black coffee in Melbourne :) I loved Pacamara Natural by Maria Pacas - it had this fruity scent with a hint of raspberry taste. Such a pleasant afternoon!
Simple review
Friendly and knowledgable service, they know their coffee and grind and roast their coffee, parking is good and the space is inviting and will be more so when restrictions ease, the coffee?!?! 10 out of 10 and a fair price too!
Thank you for the lift on a mid winters melbourne day, what melbourne is all about, coffee, winter, inner city and experience!!
Coffee lovers will like the coffee here. Good quality amazing taste.
If you love black coffee and espresso, this place is for you! If you're unsure, go try.
I'm not a fan of black coffee or espresso. Usually, I need (soy) milk. It was an interesting experience to try the different flavours of coffees and really taste the difference.
They change the flavours on a regular basis, so make sure to go back after a few weeks to experience new flavours.
For me personally, it's not a place I'd choose simply because I'm not a fan of black coffee. However, all the coffee addicts I know, love this place. :)
We discovered this place through my brother in-law. ‘Mr coffee connoisseur’.... this is the true coffee snob place to be. If cold drip is your thing this is the place. When you think of wine tasting this is the coffee version of that. They do a coffee sampler. The guys here are truely unique and experts in the coffee thing. Friendly guys and girls with some comedy to go with it. We tried a few types of coffee and weren’t disappointed. A must visit when in Collingwood
I was telling Wayne the other day that I love concrete bench tops and one day when I have my own kitchen I’ll have concrete bench tops. Cool vibes here.
Coffee 9.7/10
When I’m in the area it’s one of my hide away places to while some time away with a delicious coffee, a treat, and the sounds of roasting machines. Awesome staff who are so warm and friendly and always ready for a chat.
The most amazing staff who are really knowledgeable and helpful without being pretentious about their coffee. Their cuppings they do every 2nd Saturday are great to learn more about coffee and get to tase a few for free
After dined at Proud Mary, we visited their roaster store.
There are some large roasting machine able to see from window and a lot of coffee beans lined up against wall.
Very knowledgeable friendly staff explained the beans I was after and went to find the beans from the stock.
These beans have excellent aroma and natural deep strong flavors which makes want to smell all day long.
I wish all beans have consistency of the favourite flavors. Staff gave me a hint to find beans I like and it was really helpful.
Only for the first day of making coffee, my latte with the fresh beans was tasted awful! Another brand fresh coffee beans before making latte with this beans came real good. Skill & machine got to be fine...
It made my face so pale and had thought what to do with It. I called oversea and was getting advice to fnalize the idea of making Tiramisu professionally by Italian chef🐣
After all the drama, the fresh coffee beans set next day (←that's when I relised) and tasted as expexted as beautiful🍻
Knowledgeable baristas- like a tutorial on the process of coffee. Too many choices though which led to us realising that we may have picked the wrong brew type for the wrong type of bean process. Also would have preferred a different sequence to coffee tasting. More a light to heavier sequence. Nevertheless, a very interesting and insightful experience. Incredibly professional baristas.
IGNORE THE SUB-PAR RATINGS.
And note that this place isn’t for everyone. If you are looking for incredibly friendly, knowledgeable service and some of Melbourne’s best black coffee, then this place is for you. If you are looking for a latte, and a meal, you’ve been misinformed and should head down the road to Proud Mary Cafe (same company) to try their delicious blends with your favourite milk. Happy travels!
Points for: coffee experience
Situated at Proud Mary's coffee roasting warehouse, Aunty Peg showcases PMC's range of specialty coffee. It's a little out of the way with no public transport around, but worth coming to if you're a coffee lover.
The nitro iced coffee on tap seems like a good idea, especially during warm days - and I've always wanted to like it but it's just too bitter and acidic for me.
The strong latte is also pretty well balanced between the dark bitterness of the beans and milk.
Enjoy the full experience by taking a seat at the bar, ordering a baked good from the display cabinet and slowly savouring your coffee.
This place is amazing. Aunty pegs is a showcase coffee bar by Proud Mary. They changes their coffee bean every two week. I had coffee served in a wine glass before, so I though nothing will surprise me. Aunty peg served their cold drip coffee in a whiskey glass with a big ice ball 😱. The coffee were amazing as expected and by far the best cold drip coffee I had in Melbourne
Coffee is amazing and the staff are super friendly and knowledgeable about all things coffee. Literally, I'm sure they'd be able to answer any question you could ever think of about this humble yet much loved bean!
Couldn't get any better if it tried, their consistent breadth of knowledge and exciting rotations of coffees makes this the #1 coffee place in the #1 city in the world for coffee
Coffee, coffee, coffee. Just don't expect to order a flat white or cappuccino here; black coffee only. Come to get educated in the joys of milkless coffee from the friendly staff; if you're looking for a meal, however, you'll need to jog around the corner to Aunty Peg's big sister, Proud Mary.
When you think of coffe in Melbourne is quite obvious to think of Proud Mary. Their flagship store is Aunty Peg's and located in the heart of Collingwood, this establishment represents all the craftsmanship behind each roasted bean.
We had the pleasure to try their Cold Brew and two v60 Panama Geisha on top of a Salt Caramel Chocolate Tart and a Passion Fruit, Coconut Slice.😊
The coffee was exceptional, delicate but full of flavour, accompanied by a knowledgeable and attentive service. The sweets complimentated the flawless brews.❤
Oh dear Aunty Peg's you really made us fall in love with you. Thank you for having us 🙏
The Proud Mary family keeps on delivering, with Aunty Peg’s the latest in the Melbourne speciality coffee scene. Many months in the making, the rumour mill has been rife with what was going on at their Collingwood site. Finally it is open, presenting itself in the form of a roastery, cafe, shop, warehouse and training centre.
I’ve often walked past Aunty Peg’s on the way to work with some curiosity; I’ve heard they only do black coffees and it’s a part brewing house. I took along Christina for our first hip, purist coffee experience and we went with the fully fledged coffee flight with one filter brew from each of their three blends. The seating is bar side so you can enjoy watching the preparation as well as soak in the heavy industrial feel of the space.
One of the best stope for black coffee drinkers. Super cool setup with bar like seating around a custom group head setup in the bench. The coffee here is the focal point and the espresso's and filters are produced with a science.
Major love for this place! The space is spacious and beautiful. Roasters, store and coffee bar in one place. They brew amazing black coffee which goes well with the house made pastries. Excellent customer service by the way.
I've been visiting Aunty Peg's for just over a year now, it's always a wonderful experience. Who would have thought there would be a coffee heaven!! Nolan your are the best!!! For those coffee lovers who like a little adventure, not afraid to ditch the milk and sugar....you need to visit Aunty Peg's! 😍👍☕
If you love filter or espresso this is the right place. Open for tour around the shop and they provide brewing training too. On site roasting with selling lots of products as well. They do have nice pastry, go with the black coffee. Had the washed Geisha and the taste was incredible nice and tasty. $20 for a glass and it's worth it.
There's ting line for good coffee and great coffee. This guys the brain behind proud marry coffee is like they have magic palet to create and produce a magic wake up call. There's no milk contain in their coffee, so for you who usually drink latte or cappuino it's not the place to be, yet why not trying something new. Their pour over coffee is definitely something you need to try - it's heaven in a cup
I like coming here on lazy weekends, sit down, and talk coffee while having a cup of delicious filtered coffee. The baristas here take their coffee very seriously and are happy to talk to you about the beans they use, and the various methods of making coffee if you so wish. For me, I just enjoy sipping on my delicious coffee and having a simple chat.
These guys take their coffee very seriously, and hold a wealth of knowledge on the product.
Come here for their meticulously, crafted brew and any queries concerning coffee, you've ever pondered.
The answers await you here.
This place has to be my favourite cafe in Melbourne. The level of knowledge from the staff is crazy, i usually just go there and let them in charge of what they recommend to have on espresso or filter. They change their roast every month. I so far had Costa Rica, Colombian, Ecuador and Guatemalan there all awesome.

This place has the best cold brew and filter coffee in Melbourne. Super friendly staff who are knowledgable about brewing and always happy to chat. Usually get the cold brew which is preserved with argon gas. A must-visit if you're into coffee. It's atrocious that it's rated below 4.
Lookout, at Aunty Peg the team is seriously specialized in coffee. We walked in and were professionally greeted by the barrister who offered us a tasting card of their 3 single origins, offered as filter, espresso or cold drip. No milk. So sir; nasty milk kills the beauty in a cup.
We enjoyed the Panama Geisha and the El Salvador both as filter and yes, Sarah stole my Geisha and tried to tell me there had been a mix up... But I knew...
And that is really about it... As a back door for Proud Mary this is all and about he simplicity of serving coffee. For anyone serious about coffee this is an absolute must visit.

Three day getaway with a friend, and she was determined to come to Aunty Peg's for the sentimental value. OK, we got there on foot and might I say, it was not a ten minute walk from Nth Richmond, more like 45 minutes. Anyway, we got to see the process of coffee roasting which was pretty cool.
Note: they don't serve food here only pastries and dessert. Oh ofcourse coffee too. The dessert was yummy and the drip coffee was interesting.
I don't know if it's me or I just have the palate to appreciate thus filter, drip type coffee. I'd say it's the latter. The guys are connoisseurs at this stuff. I enjoyed the experience and the atmosphere nevertheless. That industrial unfinished look interior and the smell of fresh coffee. Yeah... It was worth the trek and effort.
Totally love it. The space is big where they roast the beans and as you walk in your faced with a coffee bar... We had to wait a few minutes as it was full but once we sat down i was totally excited to try the nitro brew. Love it. Bit like drinking a caffeine guinesss. The Customer service is very attentive and helpful.

Great open space for those coffee lovers. Grab a seat at the bar and order yourself a something cold or hot. Prices are average around $7 for a filter or a Nitro brew. Love their back wall with all coffee related accessories available for purchase. Staff helpful and friendly. Tried the Los Primos filter and it was good!
Very cool set up.
Chilled vibe.
Friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming staff.
Great coffee. If you love an epic short black espresso or two, hit this place up.
Good doughnuts also. Nice varieties of flavours.
Another one of my regular coffee bean suppliers.
A cool behind the scenes look at the coffee industry also. Hit this place up!
These guys only do black. So if you walk in expecting a piccolo like I did, you'll be sorely disappointed. My main reason for trekking out here tho, was for their nitro brew. It was nice but don't think nitro brew is my thing. What we were pleasantly surprised about however was their cold drips. We tried two and both were the best cold drips we've had anywhere in Australia. Absolutely delicious. Definitely adding this place to my list of places to return to on my regular Melb trips.
Aunty Peg's is not just a heaven for coffee snob but also for those just getting into the intoxicating world of caffeine. Part roasters, part store and part cafe albeit with very limited seating space, Aunty Peg is spacious, warm and inviting. Featuring a rotating selection of beans sourced from around the world, Aunty Peg's only serves black coffee (filter, espresso, cold drip and nitrogen cold brew) in order for coffee drinkers to better understand and appreciate the flavours and notes of the beans. To accompany their coffee, a limited but delicious selections of pastries and sweets are available. While I'm not a coffee connoisseur or even remotely close to being one, all I know is that the coffee I get here are consistently good and is one of the best I have had in Melbourne. Not only that, all the staffs here very knowledgeable and are more than happy to guide you through the whole process. Having your coffee here is more than just fulfilling your need for caffeine, it's also a learning experience.
***The place to go if you want to impress someone who likes coffee*** Really can't fault it, the place is simple and functional. Limited seats only, so it's great for some quiet time with coffee. The barista who served us was easy to talk to, took his time explaining the different beans and methods. The pastries were great as well, really want to come back again.
Aunty Peg's provides one of the best and most passionate coffee experiences in Australia. The staff are friendly and uber knowledgable, and the coffee is sensational.
The location is also the beating heart of Proud Mary's substantial roasting business. Amazing smells and sounds waft through into the cafe, it's completely intoxicating to watch.
This place is well worth a visit to anyone with a strong love of caffeine.
Love, love, love this place. It's like a Michelin-starred restaurant experience for coffee (or maybe it's better to say a 3-hat restaurant in Australia). There are only a few spots on the bar, you can see what the baristas are doing, they will tell you as much as you want about it, and the coffee tastes great! It's a must-do experience if you are a coffee snob (or just if you like coffee ;) ).
Wouldn't normally give a 5.0 rating but these guys deserve it. It's one thing to have top notch ingredients, but every single staff member has such intimate knowledge of all the different processes.
Word to the wise - even if you don't drink coffee without milk, go with it: they know what they're doing.
The pastries are incredible as well. No downsides. This is where it's at, I'll be having as many coffees from here as my body can actually handle.
My favourite spot in Melbourne for melt in your mouth, super crisp, flaky, buttery pastries. Easily the best almond croissant I've eaten, not too sweet and so crunchy and fresh! Cold brew coffees are excellent too!
Love love love the atmosphere here, you can sit around the bar and watch how ur coffee's been made. Being a caffeine enthusiast, this is the kind of cafe I want for my everyday coffee. You can only have straight coffee here which means no milk no sugar. They have filters and espresso. Coffee beans from Costa Rica Central Valley. Of course if u feel like something sweet, have one of their famous donuts or cruffins (apparently people come here FOR the pastry), I'm so satisfied with my espresso today, had the original Sonora Bourbon which is the strongest and the richest. Loved it and I hope you do so.
Coffee bar! You can have cold coffee from the tap just like beer! They know what they're doing ... Staffs are friendly and you can ask them many questions! (E.g. Brewing temperature, etc) ..They have courses on coffee roasting and showroom .. All bakery are baked onsite.
I'm not even close to an expert on coffee, but this place is great! They roast the beans for Proud Mary Coffee on the premises, and also serve filtered and espresso coffees with an ever-changing assortment of blends. The coffee was awesome, and my coffee obsessed friend was in another world! But the real winner for me was the desserts! After chatting to one of the baristas over our coffees, we got on to the topics of cakes. My friend knew exactly what he wanted (caramel popcorn donut) but I couldn't make my mind up! So I asked the barista to pick for me. He suggested a moist orange/passionfruit concoction, and what a choice it was!! Both cakes were so mouth-wateringly moreish, but the icing on the orange cake was the subject of my dreams! I was so excited to taste them, and then to devour them...that I forgot to snap a picture!! You know it's good when you forget to take a picture! But trust me, so good!!
We stopped in to grab one of their famous donuts but were a little too late and they had sold out. The friendly man at Aunty Peg's recommended the brownie instead and wow! I have found my new favourite brownie, ever! A fudgy centre that I didn't realise could be created without the brownie being warm, oily or raw tasting, and a crispy sugar top, all with a hint of hazelnut. Perfection!
Lovely dedicated caffeine enthusiasts serve you to provide you an experience of coffee tasting.
Settle down on the bar seating and enjoy a fresh brew of black coffee to heighten your senses and taste the complex flavours behind the bean.
Whilst relaxing enjoy a freshly baked in house pastry to match.
Lovely retail outlet as you walk out and an open view of the busy roasted in the background
The salted caramel popcorn doughnut was so good the jam doughnut was great also. The staff member who served me had a air of rudeness about her I also for a third doughnut and either she didn't hear me or didn't pack it
Around the corner from Proud Mary’s in Collingwood, is Aunty Peg’s on 200 Wellington Street. The black coffee only brew bar caters to those who want a more intimate experience and understanding of their coffee. I went on a Saturday afternoon expecting it to be busy, but luckily enough, I was able to get a seat at the bar. Having worked in hospitality myself the attention to detail the brew bar staff gave you, was excellent.
I got their Honduras Nahun Fernandez on nitro tap, where they brew and fill in kegs in Geelong. With a crisp acidity it had plum jam, florals and a brown sugar finish, making it go down a treat. If you are interested in brewing at home, they have a “brew at home” section to Aunty Peg’s where you can try out the Aeropress, v60, clever dripper and French Press. The Proud Mary’s roastery is also located in the same building and upstairs is where they make the famous cruffins, delivered and served at Proud Marys, Stagger Lees, and Aunty Pegs.
If you haven’t explored the black coffee /filter scene, give it a try. The team at Aunty Peg’s are lovely, just go with an open mind and willingness to learn.
Opening late in 2014, Aunty Peg’s is unique with its 25 per cent showroom/ 25 per cent café/ 25 per cent roasting house and 25 per cent DIY coffee workshop set up. In light of this, giving it one label is a tricky task! It’s a lot easier to describe it as a utopia for fanatics of the coffee bean. Inside Aunty Peg’s clean, hipster interior is what appears to be a central bar with contraptions that look like beer taps, but as you approach you recognise it’s more like Walter White’s laboratory out of Breaking Bad.
Get the doughnuts!. Got some of the doughnuts people have been raving about. Went with a couple of salted caramel, couple of raspberry and an apple crumble.
Seriously - try them!
They're $5 each, but it's a rare treat so I highly recommend them.
This is the place that I take visitors to Melbourne to understand our obsession with good coffee. Have the HR61 - the price may be steep, but the coffee is beyond the bounds of smoothness and flavour.
A1 Coffee - Amazing.. Had 2 x coffees (double espresso) here on Friday. Both were amazing single origins served by friendly staff. I also shard one of the apple and vanilla cream donuts (very delicious). I will definitely be back. I loved the fit out and feel of Aunty Pegs. See you soon.
Great discovery in Collingwood. This place is a haven for coffee connoisseurs! We even got to go on a coffee tour and smell the beans before it was roasted.
Their in house desserts are just to die for. I'm glad my girlfriend made me walk 2km to find this place. You won't regret it.
