I’m as snobby as any coffee addict, and after careful thought and many trips, I’m happy to say that Plug Nickel has the best coffee in Melbourne. It’s amazingly consistent and well worth the potentially average customer service at times.
This tiny cafe in a leafy side street of Collingwood is just the best place to stop for coffee, as the brew here is fabulous. It may be small but there is a lot of heart here, and the baristas really know their stuff.
Complimentary sparkling water always goes over a treat, as does the friendly vibe of all the happy patrons. It's only small, but Plug Nickel is usually full both inside, and also outside on the few tables available but this just adds to the appeal.
The coffee is exceptional and I love their cold brew. There is also a small selection of pastries, cookies and rolls if you are feeling hungry, but the coffee is definitely the star at Plug Nickel.
Good space, great coffee and relatively reasonable food (plus a cool hot sauce selection to accompany it). While the jaffles and pies are tempting, the $12 brekkie roll provided even better value for money imo.
Plug Nickel at Collingwood. Nice small brunch cafe but also as a bar in the evening. I had the breakky roti with egg omelette and bacon. Hot and crispy crust and soft and tender inner. Definitely a good place to dine in and must come back to have other dishes. Great.
Cute corner cafe. Told us all their white coffees are the same. I'm sure there are lots of people who enjoy that as they want to get things simplified and don't know the difference anyway. I do think there is a difference between coffees though and would like to get that difference. Other than that the coffee was good. We also shared a brownie and a peanut butter caramel slice. Were nice but slightly on the expensive side.
Tiny, cosy, corner café serving specialty coffee. The shop was so small that it could only seat about 15 people indoor. Great place to get a coffee fix with a friend, larger groups beware because there is only one bar table in the centre.
Piccolo – I’m no coffee expert but this was just slightly better than Proud Mary. Strong coffee with little bitterness and slight sweetness from roasting.
Great coffee and I love that their soy is Bonsoy. You always get a refreshing beverage to enjoy before the coffee is ready, even if you are getting takeaway!
Definitely one of my favourite coffee shops in Melbourne, with very delicious coffees, both hot and cold (and bottled). They use Ona Cafe’s Raspberry Candy beans, one of my absolute favourite beans for milk coffees. Perfect as a daily cuppa, and for those like me that don’t live in the area, perfect for the weekend cuppa. Delicious, delicious, delicious!
Love the sparkling coffee cherry tea. The flavours popped in my mouth and was really amazing and gave me a new coffee experience. Decor reminds me of Eastern Europe. Friendly and knowledgeable baristas

Known to provide ona coffee my friend recommended this place as her sister who is a coffee consultant raves about ona beans.
Standing room only with sparkling water on tap this place is as hipster as it gets. Neutropic offee with MCT oil to allow for slow release of coffee strength, double whizz which is two espresso shots and a cocochai which is chocolate flavoured chai are some of the options. I ordered an extra hot skim cap and the barista refused to make it extra hot and refused to put chocolate powder on it because that's not how cappuccinos are originally made. Oh well then there should be some warning before cappuccino orders are taken. I forced the barista to give me some chocolate bits.
Coffee is a strong hit . Strong bodied and very robust but leaves a silky smooth after taste.

My reason for the good review seems to be other people's reason for their bad review - the mocha tastes like hot chocolate! Not an unpleasant coffee taste to be had among the sweetness!
Good little spot down from me. Food is bit pricey but coffee is good. If you are on the go just it good for a quick fuel up. Ask for some hot sauce too.
We love this place for its great coffee and amazing food. Although the location is just slightly off the infamous Smith St, this place is definitely the real deal.
Recommended food to try: the beef massaman wrap and their soba noodle salad and if you fancy an extra kick in your life, complement them with their in-house hot sauce. You're welcome.
My go to place when in the Fitzroy/Collingwood area for coffee. Great long blacks (favourite in Melbourne), awesome atmosphere, and excellent staff!
Drop by to try the coffee cherry soda. The drink is really light and not bad, and it is definitely suitable for summer or hot weather. There is too much ice in the drink, so it becomes even lighter later (too light to be tasty, but cold enough). The beef roti is okay, a bit greasy but not bad. The service is quick and okay. A nice small spot for a quick coffee.
I have stopped by to get coffee without much thinking and met this gorgeous coffee. I had a sip of friend's flat white and my iced coffee. Both had special nutty kind of rich flavor. It was amazing. I haven't had any food yet, but definitely come back for another coffee.

Absolutely one of my faves. I actually sit at my desk and dream about their massaman curry beef in roti bread. OH MY GOD, the path to heaven is paved with its flaky goodness. The babes in here are complete legends, super nice (and accommodating to my hound - you guys ROCK!) and their food will blow your socks off. My only gripe is that I wish it was a little closer to me so I could shove their goodness in my face all of the time.
There's another plug on Peel Street and I'm not talking about Club 80 which occupies the prime view opposite this petite cafe. I had their signature coffee cherry soda and a spot on cold ramen salad. Very affordable fare and chatty dude baristas. Limited seating so get in quick.

I found the most beautiful coffee here, superb amazing,love u guys,please keep going. Unlike a lot of cafes in melbourne, people put a flavor note there,here u can really smell and taste the real coffee flavor.
I had a latte and long black. Milk coffee is very well balanced, the first sip comes with a really nice comfortable fruit flavor, temprature is very good, the ratio between coffee and milk is amazing. The long black is just like a hand drip coffee,super clean, very nice fruity flavor, balanced very well, not very soure or bitter, very sweet. Even when the long black is at room temprature, still taste super amazing.
Honestly I have been to various of cafes,like market lane,seven seeds,proud mary,axil,padre.....none of these impressed me with the real coffee taste. They have nice decorated cafe with cool music,superb machine. But the coffees are just on the average.
The worst thing is some coffees is super dry for the fisrt sip,can't even finish the coffees.
Anyway Plug Nickel uses coffee beans from 90 +,very nice coffee and very nice staff. ☺☺☺
Get my morning coffee here every morning now that I'm new to the Collinghood. The boys' banter is always en pointe and the coffee is consistently excellent. One of the few places you can track down Ona's beans in Melbourne. Its slightly pricier then nearby competitors but the sparkling water on tap, daily charm and vibes do more than make up for that.
I'm far from a coffee expert and during the week I even sometime have instant coffee (GASP!!!!). Plug Nickel has given me a great appreciation for excellent coffee. Perfect taste and crafted by people who obviously love coffee.
Some of the best coffee in town with super tasty food and snacks. They also do a rad chai tea and are generally a super friendly crew, always a pleasure to stop by for drink!
Easily the best quality coffee on Peel street and that's saying something with 5 cafes within 200m. These guys smash it out of the park with their warm hospitality, concise food menu and complimentary mineral water. These guys take coffee to the next level, you can see their passion from the get go. Plus the egg and bacon Rotis are the best!
