Review X74 - Coogee

OMG - just eaten the best Pancakes (with mixed fruit, ice-cream and maple syrup) I've ever had PLUS two excellent cups of coffee (flat white with oat), whilst listening to classic 80's Rock background music. Absolute heaven. 😍 Had planned on staying over here for 3 months, but after that, think I'll be looking to extend my Visa.

Greatest, tastiest and most hospitable cafe in Sydney. Tim really made us feel right at home. By far, the best mimosas we’ve had. Must try!

Super friendly cafe owner. Nice staff. Huge portions of food. Good menu to choose from. Love the location coz it's close my place. Dog friendly. Good coffee here too.

Great breaky! Very friendly and welcoming staff. The food was delicious and really good proportions!

Great coffee. Delicious breakfast, though one of my eggs was overdone and beans were quite watery. Staff were very friendly, though the service was a little slow.

I went there once and I loved the Mocha that the girl made 😍 I will come back again for a proper lunch as that looks good 👍

Incredibly friendly staff and customers. Oh and the food was excellent as well

Absolutely fantastic food and great service! The older gentleman and the young man are very friendly and accommodating, however my only issue was the barista.. the young lady I found to be very rude and abrupt. Her attitude was not friendly at all and she should learn from her colleagues about how to treat her customers!

Amazing food and service! Our waiter was bubbly and very helpful! The Chorizo Shakshuka was warm and filling, perfect on a slightly chill day!

Expensive and tiny portions. Expensive for what you get - totally overrated cafe. not impressed at all and will never return. We told the waiter but don’t think anything will be done. Really disappointed for a place that could have potential.

On holiday and got this place recommended. What a great choice. Staff were so so friendly and talked us thru the menu and recommendations. We had x74 breakfast and the omelet... absolutely delicious plus the coffee and juices.... yum!

Staff great too... we will be back

Our friends booked this as they know the owner Tim. Absolutely fantastic food, service and ambience. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back when in Sydney.

Great place for a lunch catch up. Surprisingly diverse menu and fantastic staff as well.
The barramundi was perfect and the lamb chops also a hit.
I world come back here again and highly recommend.

Very good food and coffee with a small but nice wine list from this local cafe away from the beach. Not as busy as those by the beach and possibly the best cafe/restaurant in Coogee and surrounds. Staff are great too.

Named after the X74 Bus to the city, this quaint cafe is a popular destination for locals to get their coffee fix before work and their smash avo on their weekends. Both seating inside and out, with the outside area under cover as well. Dog friendly and people friendly to đŸ¶

A great find in a Coogee neighbourhood! We were greeted by the barista who immediately took our flat white orders and sat us at a sidewalk table. The dish I had seen online they not longer make, but they offered to make a similar one for me. The panko crusted eggs on toast with sautéed mushrooms was delicious. The owner Tim came out a number of times to chat and make recommendations on the Coogee to Bondi Beach walk were doing. Even the locals at the next table joined in the discussion and shared their experiences of Canada. A pleasant, tasty experience to stoke us up before our walk. Thanks Tim and staff!

Yum! Great new find. The owner is so friendly and really proud of the cafe as he should be. Meals are delicious, portions are great size, well priced, coffee great! Highly recommend

Seems like a very popular local cafe that takes its name from the X74 bus route located next to it. A take away coffee run with the family of a Cappuccino ($3.80 regular), Latte ($4.30 large) and Babyccino ($2.50). Nicely made coffee using Allpress Espresso. The babyccino is all milk but has a lid although still can get messy when left in the hands of a 1 year old which ended up being the case — imagine front of the shirt with chocolatey milk dribble marks.

Pancakes were delish â˜ș

Food was very mediocre, lacked creativity and flavour. The best thing was the baked beans as they were made in house. Felt ripped off after looking at the bill. I don't recommend going here.

Not the best coffee in Coogee, very much dependent on the barista's daily form. Usually pretty long wait, expensive ($3.8 for a small coffee)

A simple but fantastically thought out menu. Showcasing what can be done with food with a bit of effort. Great service. Will return to try breaky or lunch sometime

My favourite cafe/resturant in Coogee. Great for brekky or lunch anytime and dinner Thursday - Saturday. The cafe food is largely traditional with a few special extras thrown in. The dinner menu is a great example of modern Australian cuisine og surprising quality. I've always had impeccable service.

Dropped in while out for bike ride, lovely spot, good coffee, friendly staff.

Worst cafe I've been to. I was really looking forward to coming here with friends after reading some of the wonderful dining experiences here on urbanspoon. But what followed was probably one of the worst lunches I've ever had. We ordered 3 dishes from the lunch menu - and 1 and a half hours later - nothing! The waitress was super nice and I really felt bad for her since it seemed like she was apologising for issues that was not her fault. But seriously - there were literally only 4 other people at the cafe at the time (all of whom received their food before us despite some having come after). Also, I had ordered the steak with shoe string fries - how long could that take to cook?? It was closer to 3 pm by the time we actually received our food. An older man (I'm assuming the owner) came over to apologise, and we asked for the bill. Which he seemed to forget about - since 10 minutes later he had strolled over to have a chat with a man getting coffee to go. Had to wave down the same poor waitress to pay. This place has one thing going for it - it's memorable.

Best Eggs Benny in Sydney!. I always ask before ordering if the hollandaise is homemade, as there is nothing more disappointing that packet hollandaise for a Eggs Benny lover!!, To my delight it was "ofcourse" homemade at X74. So both my partner and I ordered it. Perfectly cooked eggs on top of smoked salmon and a generous portion of hollandaise sauce. Absolutely perfect! Coffee was spot on too. All round perfection, from the service with a smile to the fresh delicious breakfast. We have found our new favorite!

Must try. After having several great breakfasts we went for dinner on Sat night. A simple menu but still difficult to choose as everything was appealing. I went for the pasta as its made inhouse and didn't disappoint. Plenty of specials and prices equal the quality of food. A nice selection of wines we went for an Italian Pinot Grigio and a French red. Both great and they are generous with wines by the glass. The only negative was the cold air from the open frontage.excellent service and child friendly.

Coffee is hit n miss. Food is good but be warned everything on lunch menu is $18 and up. French toast is great. Im curious about the dinners now.

Best breakfast in coogee. I've often been here for breakfast, and each time it is excellent.
The easy breakfast is excellent, house made baked beans with pork hock is outstanding, house made pork sausages are excellent and full of flavour.
I'll certainly be back

Everything about X74 is well worked out. Menu, service, food, coffee - really great. Recommend.

Best Coffee in the East. I'm actually a little reluctant to write this review, in fear of an influx of patrons to what is without doubt the best cafe/restaurant in Coogee and serves what is arguably the best and most consistent coffee in the East.

We are always greeted with a smile and made to feel like a part of the X74 family, with most staff remembering ours and other frequent diners names as they chortle a friendly 'Hello' from behind their Ferrari of an espresso machine. Each and every meal we have ever ordered here has been devoured in an appreciative silence and each coffee sipped with an adoration and respect for the talented baristas.

The waiters, joined on the floor by co-owner and manager (ex-Catalina) Tim Hughes are experienced and friendly and go out of their way to welcome and cater for the fussiest of diners (of which I am one.)

X74 is bustling but away from the madness that is Coogee Bay Rd and I can only hope there are plans for more foodie goodness along other Sydney bus routes for when word of mouth gets out about this little gem.

Tammy

Great surprise!. What a great little surprise. A friend invited me to check out this cafe that is near my place. Wasn't expecting much but when I got there was pleasantly surprised with the cool vibe and quality. I ordered a chicken salad with poached egg and a muscle shake. The lunch was great, service was fantastic and coffee was second to none in the area.
I returned there today for a breakfast and it was just as good. Ordered the veggie breakfast and it was delicious. Soft, salty haloumi cheese was cooked perfectly. The eggs were fresh, bright, tasty and poached perfectly.
The serving sizes are generous and the presentation is great. fresh, fast, tasty and affordable food. Thumbs up!
Looking forward to trying out their dinner service. I spied some good wines on offer and sirloin with crusty polenta and salsa verde are calling my name.
Good work guys, ill be bring my friends here from now on.
